Transcript Christina Brett: [00:00:00] [00:00:00] Hey Christina, it’s your turn to do the intro. [00:00:02]Christina: [00:00:02] Hey guys. So, you’re listening to overtired. I’m Christina. He’s Brett, how are you doing Brett? [00:00:09]Brett: [00:00:09] You kind of screwed it up. I mean, it all got there, but I sense the hesitancy, [00:00:14]Christina: [00:00:14] Yeah, I w I messed it up this [00:00:17] Brett: [00:00:17] you were second guessing yourself as it was coming out of your mouth. You know why? [00:00:22] Christina: [00:00:22] Why? [00:00:22] Brett: [00:00:22] Because you just got your second vaccine. [00:00:25]Christina: [00:00:25] That’s exactly right. I did. I’m now full of the 5g and got my second dose of the vaccine, had a little fever some joint pains, arm pain some feeling like everything was sucked out of me, but I’m on the up and up now. So not a hundred percent, but I’m feeling a lot better. And honestly, Would take this times 10, right? [00:00:47] Like I’ve never, like I said before, like I’ve never been happier to feel kind of crappy for a day or so, like bring it on. [00:00:54] Brett: [00:00:54] Yeah, I just got my second Pfizer shot on Wednesday. And. [00:01:00] I had taken like Thursday off. I figured like the first shot I was pretty sick for the day after was not really up for doing anything. So I took a Thursday off with the assumption that I was going to feel like crap. And I actually felt pretty much fine. [00:01:15] Like my arm hurt like crazy, but uh, in a low grade headache all day, but my energy didn’t like, I was fine. And then today I got some of the other symptoms, including having to spend some extra time in the bathroom. We’ll just call it that. Yes. That seems like a a polite way to put it. Yes. But that’s settling down now, too. [00:01:39] So all in all, like I, the second shot was actually easier for me than the first one for anyone who’s, got that vaccine hesitancy because the second one sounds scary. [00:01:51] Christina: [00:01:51] It totally sounds scary, but I’ve been, I would try to tell people it’s like a everybody’s responses seem to be different there’s people who are older or who [00:02:00] have immune systems that might not be as great, apparently have less side effects, which great. B, because this is what they claim anyway, that like, what you’re getting is like your immune system fighting stuff. [00:02:09] But even if like you’re hesitant, you’re kind of worried. It’s not the end of the world. It’s not like the worst thing you’ve ever had is just like, Oh yeah, this is more than what you would get from a flu shot. Which makes sense. Because as we’ve been trying to tell people for the last year, plus this is not the flu. [00:02:27] Brett: [00:02:28] And there’s a time limit on these side effects. Like for the vast majority of people, it’s max 48 hours. [00:02:35] Christina: [00:02:35] Exactly. That’s the thing, right? So if you can schedule it, like towards the end of the week, I would say to do that if you’re really worried, but I mean, I think even like the most unhelpful employers are all like, at least in the United States and the rest of the world tends to have better labor practices than we do. [00:02:56] So, we’re talking about the U S here. I think that’s probably where most of our audience is [00:03:00] anyway, but I think even like the most like horror, like bad employers are like, yeah, we’ll understand if, you’re feeling kind of, shitty, for 48 hours max, after your vaccine dose, like it’s a small amount of pain for a huge amount of upside and I’m. [00:03:18] What strikes me and I don’t, I’ve been thinking about this a lot. We haven’t talked about this, that much on our podcast and we don’t talk abo

Transcript Christina Brett: [00:00:00] [00:00:00] [00:00:04] Hey, should I do the intro this week? [00:00:06] Christina: [00:00:06] Yeah, I think so. [00:00:07] Brett: [00:00:07] I feel like it’s, Hey, this is Brett. And I’m here with Christina and you’re listening to over tired. See, it’s been a while since I really screwed up. Well, [00:00:17] Christina: [00:00:17] I liked that though. I think that was actually a good intro. I like it when we mess up as does the ins, so [00:00:22] Brett: [00:00:22] I feel like it was a very familiar intro. No last names, just, [00:00:25] Christina: [00:00:25] Breton Christina. [00:00:26] Brett: [00:00:26] we all know each other here [00:00:28] Christina: [00:00:28] Basically. Yeah. How are you doing Brett? [00:00:30] Brett: [00:00:30] I am. I’m good. I we have, so we’ve been keeping the kitten. Can I just talk about my kitten? We’ve been keeping the kitten upstairs with the pet gate and then Yeti likes to come down with me. So I’ll let him down. When I go down to my office. And recently I’ve wanted to give Yeti like free roam without the gate. [00:00:53]So we have to keep the dog from going downstairs. Cause if she gets downstairs, she poops in the basement, which [00:01:00] sucks. And so I took an angle grinder and I cut a pole out of the gate. So now it’s big enough for the cats to fit through, but not the dog. And so now the kitten is exploring the basement, which is clearly Yeti’s territory. [00:01:14] So she’s a lot nicer to Yeti down here, but that means that on a regular basis, I suddenly have a kitten in my lap while I’m working and I’m waiting for it to happen during this podcast. I left the door open almost specifically so that I could be delighted by a cat, just jumping into my lap. That was a really long story to tell you that there’s a kitten in my office. [00:01:36]Christina: [00:01:36] No, but I liked it and I like that she’s in your office and I liked that. She’s doing well. This is actually though a good segue into Brett’s mental health corner. Although first, do we have any sponsors this week? [00:01:45]Brett: [00:01:45] W we are sponsored by a ritual this week. I’ll do the read on that when we get to it. [00:01:51] Christina: [00:01:51] Fantastic. Now I just wanted it to be able to give them a shout out earlier in the show. If we needed to, I don’t know how the contract stuff [00:01:57] Brett: [00:01:57] Yeah, no, they don’t ask for it, but [00:02:00] that’s we go above and beyond and let you know that we are sponsored by ritual at the top of the show [00:02:05]Christina: [00:02:05] Solutely all right. So let’s segue now into breaths. Men’s Brett’s mental health corner. So other than, having to keep the cat from pooping in the basement, how the dog, I’m sorry, the dog poops in the basement. I’m sorry. The dog groups, the basements. And you need to keep the kitten away from it. [00:02:22] Other than that how are you doing. [00:02:23]Brett: [00:02:23] Overall really good. For some reason today I’m super scattered and I just cannot latch onto one project, which I know ADHD, but I’ve been super good for the last month. So this is weird. [00:02:39] Christina: [00:02:39] Yeah. I was going to say when we were talking before our show about a couple of things that you’re like, yeah, I’m super scattered and I can’t focus on anything like important. I was like, Oh Oh weekday, because I don’t know this year, especially my ADHD has been out of control, but I’ve been really glad yours has been better, but I’m super sorry that it’s not, but other [00:03:00] than the ADHD, Venus everything else good on, on the mental health front. [00:03:04] Brett: [00:03:04] Yeah I just had an appointment with my psychiatrist. Was it yesterday or the day be

Transcript Christina Christina: [00:00:00] [00:00:00]You are listening to over tired. I’m Christina Warren. He’s Brett Terpstra, Brett, how are you? [00:00:11] Brett: [00:00:11] I am so like right before we started this podcast, like this exact recording, I was buried in like building a whole new website for a bunch from scratch. And as an ADHD person who gets hyper-focused, it’s really hard for me to let go yeah. To switch tracks. So I’m working on that right now. [00:00:37] Christina: [00:00:37] Okay. All right. I appreciate that. And, and, and, um, and we’ll, we’ll, we’ll talk about some of your code stuff a little bit later, unless, um, I mean, we could skip breaths, um, mental health corner and go straight to Brett’s coding corner, if that would help you transition. But I don’t know. [00:00:53] Brett: [00:00:53] We’ll make that, uh, we’ll, we’ll see where we’re at at the 45 minute Mark. And if we want to dig into. [00:01:00] Like the inner workings of Brett’s code brain at that point. That’s fine. But for right now, we’ll stick with our kind of the usual topics. [00:01:07] Christina: [00:01:07] Yeah, that sounds good. So mental health corner update. [00:01:12] Brett: [00:01:12] Yeah. How are you? [00:01:13]Christina: [00:01:13] I’m okay. I’ve been, I don’t know this, the whole, this whole thing is just getting to me. It’s been kind of a shitty week to be honest, but but I’m okay. I did volunteer yesterday again, Adam, the, uh, place [00:01:26] Brett: [00:01:26] a nation clinic. [00:01:27] Christina: [00:01:27] Yeah. And that was, that was really cool. [00:01:29]We gave 8,000 doses and I made the mistake of signing up for an afternoon shift and ended up having to stay about an hour and a half after. Should have been there because the line for people to get in, and some people were waiting in line for two hours outside to get inside. And traffic apparently was really bad getting down to the stadium because there was also a Mariners game happening. [00:01:53] So the Mariners are the Seattle baseball team and where the VAX clinic is happening is it’s taking place at the [00:02:00] larger lumen field, which is the, where the Seahawks, the football team play. And so it’s not actually, like it’s an outdoor stadium, so they’re not doing the vaccinations outside, but there’s like a theater kind of area that’s attached to the stadium. [00:02:12] That’s big. And like they have, college graduations and stuff like that there. And so that is where people are. Having the, that the spreader doing the vaccination stuff. And but they’re right across the street from one another. So like the football stadium and the baseball stadium are literally across the street from one another. [00:02:29] So when you have, were, they got 8,000 doses that they were giving out throughout the day. So you had that many people coming in and then the baseball game. And then I don’t know if there was some sort of other holdup, but traffic was apparently really, really bad. So things were sort of backed up and then the line to get in, it was like some people, like the very last people that we were helping, it was like, people were, had been in line for two hours, which is crazy, but also, [00:02:57] Brett: [00:02:57] bad as voting. [00:02:58]Christina: [00:02:58] Yeah, but [00:03:00] honestly, I don’t want to say more important, but I’m going to say more important. [00:03:04]Brett: [00:03:04] Yeah, I guess you could argue that either way, [00:03:08] Christina: [00:03:08] either way. I think you could go that way. I think that the reason I will say more important is because it’s 16 and up and you have to be 18 to vote. And, and also there’s not a residency requirement, you

[00:00:10] Christina: [00:00:10] I’m good. My arm hurts, but I’m good. [00:00:13] Brett: [00:00:13] Why does your arm hurt Christina? [00:00:15] Christina: [00:00:15] Cause I got the shot. [00:00:17] Brett: [00:00:17] Hey, I did too. [00:00:18] Christina: [00:00:18] Hell yeah. Which one did you get? [00:00:20] Brett: [00:00:20] Uh, Pfizer. [00:00:22] Christina: [00:00:22] Same [00:00:23] Brett: [00:00:23] I got a call. I was, I had, so on what day is it today? Thursday? [00:00:28] Christina: [00:00:28] is Thursday. Yeah. [00:00:31] Brett: [00:00:31] Uh, the clinic near me had a, like a walk in like the state opened up to anyone 16 and over, and they had a walk-in, they had 800 shots available, but I couldn’t get there until like three hours after it opened. [00:00:43] And I made the assumption that they would be out by then. [00:00:46] Christina: [00:00:46] Right. I would have, I would have thought that too. [00:00:48] Brett: [00:00:48] I live in a town of like 30,000 people and. It, it, it turned out they weren’t. And so the next day they had appointments, but I couldn’t get an appointment. So I had like put my name on a [00:01:00] waiting list. So last night I get a call at 7:00 PM that says, are you still interested? [00:01:05] Yes. Can you make it here? And under 20 minutes? Yes. It’s two minutes away from me. So I drove right there and I got my shot. [00:01:13]Christina: [00:01:13] Hell. Yeah, that’s awesome. We had like they, okay. So they are, they’ve announced that as of April 15th, everyone 16 and over in Washington state, we’ll be able to get the shot, but they opened up for way more people. Um, on the 31st, uh, I still didn’t qualify, but I volunteered at the, um, mass vaccination center at, uh, the Seahawks stadium Blumenfield and so I was able to get it after that, but grant did qualify, so he was able to get his too. [00:01:43] So. [00:01:44] Brett: [00:01:44] Not to get personal, but did he qualify for weight? Yeah, me too. Like I got bumped up on the waiting list because I, I told, I said I was, I think I’m technically obese. Like it’s actually a pretty low bar to get over these days. [00:02:00] Um, but I just put down obesity and, and I got the call. So. [00:02:05] Christina: [00:02:05] Yeah. Yeah. So he had that and then like smoker, um, even though he like it’s vaping, but still, and, um, yeah. High blood pressure. Like he had, he had a lot of things. Um, I am most, definitely not obese. I’m [00:02:20] Brett: [00:02:20] not. [00:02:21] Christina: [00:02:21] I’m I’m 15 pounds below a BMI that would say normal. So that’s, that’s like more than 15% of my body weight. [00:02:31] So, um, I, which honestly, you know, it’s not listed on, on one of like the comorbidities, but I have to think that’s gotta be like, not that much better for my body [00:02:48] Brett: [00:02:48] No, I would think you would be even more susceptible to [00:02:51] Christina: [00:02:51] I. I would agree with you 100%. I even like talked to a doctor about it and they were like, yeah, probably, but it’s not on the list because they had the [00:03:00] same thought. [00:03:00] And I was like, well, that’s kind of fucked. [00:03:02] Brett: [00:03:02] Did you hear Detroit put ADHD on the list? [00:03:06] Christina: [00:03:06] No, but good for them. [00:03:07] Brett: [00:03:07] Yeah. ADHD and autism and other mental illnesses, uh, made you eligible early on like months ago. [00:03:16] Christina: [00:03:16] Yeah, well, we, it was unclear according to the CDC things like I, like there are ways that I think that I probably could have like, Without any guilt go

Transcript Christina Christina: [00:00:00] [00:00:00] [00:00:02] You you’re listening to over tired. I’m Christina Warren. He’s Brett Terpstra. Our show is up late this week because it’s my fault. But, uh, how are you doing [00:00:13] Brett: [00:00:13] Well, let’s be let’s. I’m good. It, so the first day we push, we’re supposed to record on Tuesday and I was just not in the mood. like, [00:00:22] Christina: [00:00:22] I wasn’t either. [00:00:23] Brett: [00:00:23] we plan for Tuesdays because it gives us a day that we can push and still get up on time. So I was just like, Hey, let’s do our favorite thing and flake on something. [00:00:33] And we agreed. And then the next day came around and you were having a rough day. And then the next day came around and I hadn’t slept all night. And here we are today. [00:00:47] Christina: [00:00:47] And here we are today. Exactly. And I took today off. So because we got like, They gave us, they gave us these five, like mental health days, in addition to our like sick time and vacation, which is [00:01:00] really, really kind of them. The only, only thing is, is that you have to take them by a certain time. And they don’t, um, like count as official vacation or sick days or whatever, because that means that they don’t have to pay for them. [00:01:16] Um, which incidentally is like the whole scam of unlimited vacation. Like companies that go like oh we give unlimited vacation. It’s like, no, you, you know that people aren’t going to take more than what the normal allotted amount is. And this just prevents you from having to pay out vacation time when they leave Like that’s all it is It’s such a scam Netflix started it but it’s such a scam [00:01:36] So [00:01:36] Brett: [00:01:36] has unlimited vacation And I was curious how that would work how how it will play out [00:01:41] Christina: [00:01:41] Yeah So it’s it’s not terrible Right The only thing that’s terrible about it is that when you leave Oracle you won’t get your payout So like if I were to leave Microsoft tomorrow I have three weeks plus of of like okay so they let you carry over up to three weeks a year or something um like [00:02:00] 120 hours And after that if you have too much that you’re bringing over they’re like screw you Although I think in California they can’t do that but in other States they can uh and then you earn three weeks a year like over the course of things So I’ve got like a month plus a vacation So if I were to leave tomorrow they would have to pay me for that But if I worked at a place that had unlimited vacation then when I left it’d be like see ya So [00:02:26] Brett: [00:02:26] I see I see I see how it works now I still like the idea of like if I get my stuff done I can just take you time. Although I can’t see myself never in my life have I actually used all my available available vacation days. [00:02:41] Christina: [00:02:41] Me either. W w which is like, it’s such an American thing. Like, honestly, like we’re 100%, it comes from a puritanical roots, I think, because, you know, like there’s the whole, like, work equals like closer to Godness or whatever. Like genuinely, I, [00:03:00] this is like, comes, it comes all, comes from matching. Because if you look at Europe, I mean, there are parts of Asia that are obviously hardworking, um, overworked, similar to where we are Japan, for instance, although not Asian, not all Asian countries, but like, you look at Europe, Europe, they’re like, yeah, we get drunk in the afternoon and we take holiday and it’s a known thing. [00:03:19] And like, if you don’t give people, like everybody in Europe gets like six weeks of vacation a year, you know, it’s [00:03:24] Brett: [00:03:24] And their maternity leave

[00:00:31] Brett: [00:00:31] Um, I, so I slept really well last night for maybe the best sleep I’ve gotten in a long time, which is surprising given how excited I was about my, my big secret news, but how are, how are you doing? [00:00:47] Christina: [00:00:47] similarly, right. Like I had, um, Are really good sleep. Um, and it was one of those things where like, and it wasn’t one of those situations where I had to like, get super high to go to sleep. So I slept for, [00:01:00] cause that happens sometimes. Like if I take like an edible or whatever, I’m like, [00:01:03] Brett: [00:01:03] sleep well, if you’re high. [00:01:05] Christina: [00:01:05] Oh yeah. [00:01:06] Brett: [00:01:06] Oh man. I never like back. I never got like a really, truly restful sleep on any, any [00:01:13] Christina: [00:01:13] Well, okay. I’m not sure if I would call it a restful, but it is one of those things where it’s just like black and, and then I just wake up and I’m like, Oh, okay, cool. Um, no, but in this case I’m going to have some weird dreams which happens sometimes, but it was a fairly, like a consistent and long period of sleep. [00:01:31] And I went to bed like before 10:00 PM. And so it was one of those things where I got like a lot of sleep, so yeah. [00:01:39] Brett: [00:01:39] Yeah. So I got to tell you my big news. [00:01:42] Christina: [00:01:42] I was going to say, please tell us your big news breads health club corner, as well as a Brett’s news corner. Cause I think these two are probably going to be related even if not directly. What’s the big news. [00:01:52] Brett: [00:01:52] So you know that, uh, that thing with Oracle it’s happening. I’m part of a [00:02:00] developer relations team. I am my, the job title is like technical writer, but it’s like a full like multimedia they’re going to make use of all of the skills that I’ve honed ever since my days at two plus my development experience. [00:02:15] And it is, I have never felt like a job was more tailored to me. [00:02:22]Christina: [00:02:22] no, [00:02:23] Brett: [00:02:23] of the industry for a decade. And in the meantime, as L put it, the industry grew a job for me. [00:02:30] Christina: [00:02:30] no, she’s exactly right. That’s the perfect way of putting it. And it’s so funny because when you and I were talking on systematic about. My shift from journalism to developer relations and, and advocacy. And, um, our jobs are going to be solar, like not the same, but, but, but similar in some ways, and, and, uh, whatnot, I kind of felt the same way when I was talking to you, even I was thinking, I was like, God, you know, it pro wanted something like this. [00:02:53] Like, he’d be a great developer advocate or, or a technical writer or whatever, but you’d be great in dev role. I’ve always [00:03:00] thought that, so this is so exciting. This is so awesome. And Ella is exactly right. They built a job for you. They, they th th the industry grew because you know, what I think happened is that people have seen like that the most effective way to connect in and communicate with communities. [00:03:18]Is having people who are naturally part of those communities who have already naturally on their own been doing what you and I have done, like our whole careers, which is to, you

Privacy matters are high on the topic list today, what with Google and Brave and all the shenanigans. But so are shells… we got some zsh, some bash, and even some fish. So, to summarize, privacy and shells. We’ve been criticized for taking too long to get to the point, so I want to be as concise as possible. Which I’m ruining by explaining it. Guess I proved their point for them. Sponsors Nebia: The Nebia by Moen Spa Shower uses 45% less water while providing a serious upgrade to your shower time. Transcript Brett [00:00:00] Christina: [00:00:00] You’re listening to overtired. I’m Christina Warren. He’s Brett Terpstra. Hey Brett, how are you? [00:00:05] Brett: [00:00:05] I, so I’m like in the weeds building this, you know, bunch. My, my like automation app that I’ve been kind of obsessed with. I decided it can run shell scripts. So you should be able to see the output of shell scripts. And so I built this entire system that, uh, not only does it load like your full log-in shell environment, it also converts, uh, like ANSI color codes in your output. [00:00:34] Two attributed strings that it can display in a nice Menlo presentation. Anyway, I that’s where my brain is right now. So I’ll come around. I’m ADHD. Uh, it’s common symptom is trouble switching tasks. I’ll get there. [00:00:54] Christina: [00:00:54] you’ll get there. Um, no, but I mean, I think, I think the, I like this, [00:01:00] that, uh, this is where your brain is. And I would honestly, this got us talking about, about shell scripts, uh, or I guess about, Shell’s not shell scripts with shells in general, because you put fish on our list and that was going to be like a later topic. [00:01:16] But I just want to talk about it now because I really like talking about like shell [00:01:20] Brett: [00:01:20] jump into tech, just we’ll lose. You lose that portion of our audience right off the bat that [00:01:26] Christina: [00:01:26] Okay. You’re right. You’re okay. Okay. You’re right. We know. Okay. Well, I was going to say, should we do like the health corner first, but I felt like this was sort of associated with the health corner. Cause like, this is what your mind was on. [00:01:39] Brett: [00:01:39] Um, You know, let’s I let’s break tradition. Um, [00:01:44] Christina: [00:01:44] are you sure? Cause we can just go to the health Corps and then come back to fish. [00:01:47] Brett: [00:01:47] I’m not sure I’m finding, it’s making me uncomfortable, but in my life I’ve I generally go with things that make me uncomfortable because it [00:01:53] Christina: [00:01:53] no, no, no, no, no, no. Okay. Let’s start with the health corner. Let’s talk about, let’s talk about, let’s talk about the health corner. So [00:01:59] Brett: [00:01:59] mental [00:02:00] health, I want to, I want to read this line from discord, uh, in regards to last week show. [00:02:07] Uh, SMA said, um, today’s episode is great. Putting scheduling slash sponsors ahead of sleep is entirely on brand. [00:02:19] Christina: [00:02:19] Estimate nailed it. Totally. 100% on brand. [00:02:25] Brett: [00:02:25] you know what I realized this morning? So I didn’t realize I have Tourette, but I realized that so my Tourette shows up in muscle twitches. Um, like I’ll, I’ll get a feeling that I absolutely need to tighten or, or flex a muscle at and like all over my body. But. Primarily in my legs. And I realized while I’m doing tree and yoga this morning, that the, the one thing that always, uh, knocked me over in balance poses is my Tourette’s. [00:02:58] Like, it never clicked for me [00:03

Uh, you’ll see, things were, things were different than they are now. [00:00:18] So bear with us, get through the first half and we promise it gets better. [00:00:24] 20210304 0832 Guest : [00:00:24] It totally gets better also like. Let us know in the discord or on Twitter or wherever, like how much, uh, of, uh, how, how angry did I sound in the first part? Cause I don’t know, but I have a feeling that I was, I was pretty cranky. [00:00:40]Intro [00:00:44] Hi, I’m Brett Terpstra. You’re listening to overtired. I’m here with Christina Warren who is extremely tired. How are you Christina? [00:00:52]20210303 0933 Guest : [00:00:52] I’m so tired. [00:00:55] 20210303 0933 Brett: [00:00:55] Like, like, did you sleep at all? [00:00:57] 20210303 0933 Guest : [00:00:57] I mean, I got like, uh, like three [00:01:00] hours of sleep maybe. Um, And then after we do this, I will be lucky if I get another three hours of sleep. Um, and then I have to go back in for another six, seven hours, seven hours, another like seven hours of fly posting for Microsoft ignite [00:01:18] 20210303 0933 Brett: [00:01:18] Yeah, that seems unreasonable. Why, why, why, why are you asked to keep this schedule? [00:01:25] 20210303 0933 Guest : [00:01:25] because it’s Microsoft ignite. And I got the, uh, short end of the stick, um, schedule wise, actually like. I think only one team who were paired up probably didn’t get this sort of, uh, kind of bad schedule combo. So the way that it works is that we had like three different groups of, of hosting pairs who are, um, hosting content in like seven hour blocks. [00:01:52] And, um, But there’s like an overlap period. Uh, when you, you pick up from the other other person and then you have [00:02:00] to get in at a certain time for, for call time for hair and makeup and stuff like that. So, um, there was one group that, you know, I think they had to be in at 6:00 AM and then they went live at eight yesterday and they went from eight until, I guess like, you know, like, uh, one, um, or, or, or two. [00:02:21] And then the next group went from two until nine, and then we went from nine until three. Um, but the, the group that went from, um, two until nine had to be back in at six and then we had to be back in at, um, my call time. Is it, uh, 1230? Uh, and then, um, the next, um, or one o’clock rather, and then the next group is, um, We’ll be taking over from us at, uh, like 9:00 PM, but we’ll do the switch off at like eight 30. [00:02:56] So they’re only the people who went, who went [00:03:00] first and are also going last a half, like a long period of time between their ships and, and the rest of us. It’s just, uh, it’s just how it works. [00:03:10] 20210303 0933 Brett: [00:03:10] I, uh, historically, if anyone asked me to do anything close to that kind of schedule, I would, I would either put my foot down or I’d just quit, which is why I don’t have a job anymore. [00:03:24] 20210303 0933 Guest : [00:03:24] Well, and, [00:03:24] 20210303 0933 Brett: [00:03:24] it. [00:03:25] 20210303 0933 Guest : [00:03:25] and in fairness to be totally honest, I mean, this is the thing where I should, we should have recorded this yesterday. I should have found a way to record this yesterday. And that way I would have been able to have an interrupted sleep. The thing that’s going to kill me is the fact that. We, uh, I got like three ho

[00:00:10] Christina: [00:00:10] I’m pretty good, Brad, I’m pretty good. Uh, I am like, it’s one of those classic overtired things. Cause I am a little tired because I’ve been like super busy the last couple of days, but yeah, I’m good. How are you? [00:00:21] Brett: [00:00:21] I’m over arrested. I’m fucking depressed. [00:00:24] Christina: [00:00:24] Oh, no. [00:00:25] Brett: [00:00:25] it’s, it’s been like a week now. Uh, like I think I talked about it last time, but it turned out like, Like I always end this like very mild manic episode for like two weeks. And I didn’t, it was so mild. I didn’t realize what was happening and well, almost three weeks, really. [00:00:46] So all of a sudden it like ended. And I’ve been sleeping a lot and watching a lot of Netflix and my internet went down yesterday and it was this nightmarish moment of like, I’m depressed. [00:01:00] I just want to keep the cats warm on the couch. And now I don’t have Netflix. What reminded me of a time before streaming television. [00:01:11] Um, [00:01:12] Christina: [00:01:12] You’re like, wait, I ha. Yeah. Cause you’re like, wait, I have to watch things on these, these disks now, which you might not even have. [00:01:19] Brett: [00:01:19] even have anymore. Like I re I, it made me remember the days when yeah. I had like a DVD collection and I could like go back and used to have hard copy porn. Do you remember those days? So long ago, [00:01:33] Christina: [00:01:33] Oh, that’s hilarious. Hard. Copy [00:01:35] Brett: [00:01:35] they used to print that stuff on paper and it didn’t even move. It was so weird. It was so weird. [00:01:42] Um, yeah. Speaking of, no, I’m just kidding. I’m not going to turn that into a sponsor read right there. [00:01:49] Christina: [00:01:49] No. I was going to say I don’t, I don’t know if it would work kind of for one of them. [00:01:54] Brett: [00:01:54] Hey, would like, because there is actually a Radic picture available on [00:02:00] audible. [00:02:00] Christina: [00:02:00] Oh, see, I was actually thinking like the shower [00:02:03] Brett: [00:02:03] Oh yeah. We could. Oh, so many possibilities. Yet, we’re going to have some tastes and class, and we’re going [00:02:11] Christina: [00:02:11] We are, we’re not going to do that. [00:02:12] Brett: [00:02:12] we’re talking about like the Holocaust or, or sexually assault or something before we make [00:02:18] Christina: [00:02:18] Nope. I was going to say. I was going to say, that’s what the sponsors, uh, pay us the, the very small dollars to do. That’s really what it’s about. Like, it’s, it’s, it’s the Holocaust and in sexual assault that you want to be your segues, not, not, not pornography because this is America, right? Exactly. [00:02:38] Brett: [00:02:38] So today’s episode is brought to you by audible and Nebia by Mowen what we’re going to tell you about that later, because right now I want to talk about pretty eight machine. [00:02:50] Christina: [00:02:50] Okay. Tell me about this because I just, I’m just looking at you. I saw this in our, in our notes. I was just looking at the vinyl and I’ve never heard this. So tell me all [00:03:00] about this because it looks great. [00:03:01] Brett: [00:03:01] Yeah. A couple years ago, uh, this guy, uh, who goes by inverse phase on band camp put out, actually, it’s been like it’s been years, but a w

You’re listening to overtired with, with me, Christina Warren and him Brett Terpstra. Hey, Brett, how are you? [00:00:11] Brett: [00:00:11] I’m good. Christina Warren ha ha. I think you get to start with the health corner this week. How, how you doing [00:00:19] Christina: [00:00:19] Okay, so I’m fine. I can’t iterate that enough. I, I have to be very clear on this because if my mom, for some reason, listens to this podcast, mom do not listen to this podcast. This is not the podcast that you need to [00:00:32] Brett: [00:00:32] Stop right now. [00:00:34] Christina: [00:00:34] Right. But, but also just in general, like, I love you mom, but like, this is not the podcast for you, but in case my mom or someone listens to this podcast, I have to be very clear. [00:00:43] I’m fine. However, I had a little bit of a weird weekend. it is okay. Um, As, as it is, most of the country, and you’re going to laugh at this right now because you’re in [00:01:00] Minnesota where, you know, it, it gets cold and snows and like that’s a normal thing and people know how to deal with it. Uh, in parts of the country, like Texas, where I’m not. [00:01:11] And, uh, the Pacific Northwest where I am living. It’s pretty rare that we get what we would call, like, I guess, major kind of winter storm alerts or whatever. And, um, for the last three years, I guess this would be the third year. There have been some, you know, snow or ice things that have happened in Seattle. [00:01:32] I’ve managed to avoid them because I’ve been in an Australia when it’s happened. But this year I was not in Australia because of the pandemic. So, um, it snowed in Seattle over the weekend and it snowed pretty significantly for us. Like we got, you know, I think it peaks, you know, like, Like six or seven inches, eight or nine inches in some places which, um, for Seattle is, is quite a bit right? [00:01:56] Like this isn’t going to be, you know, like I know that like people in New [00:02:00] York and, and, you know, people like you are like ha seven inches. What, like, that’s cute. But for this part of the country, that’s actually pretty significant. And the infrastructure is not designed to deal with that. They did have plows out in a lot more areas than I was expecting, and they did have more places that were shoveled and were dealt with better than I was expecting, but it was one of those things where I woke up Saturday morning and, you know, I see. [00:02:30] Like white all over, like the outside. And, you know, the, the building is like sending in, you know, memos that they’re not going to be in that day because they, they kind of can’t get in and places are closed. No one’s delivering food at all. And then it polices were, um, like nobody really wasn’t on Saturday. [00:02:48] And then it pleases warlike on, on Sunday and, and Monday, it was like much more limited hours and whatnot. Well, I woke up on Saturday morning and I had a bit of a predicament. [00:03:00] Because I wear

Brett:I I’m, I’m getting so good at these intros that it’s almost boring now. Christina:Right. You’re like feeling like I need to mess it up so that it can feel normal. Brett:I’m I’m sometimes when I’m more scattered. Like I’ll think the words through in my head, but then they’ll come out in a completely different order. It’s very flustering when that happens, which I believe leads to. That’s just good radio. Yeah know. Christina:Agreed. It is. It’s just good radio. Brett:So, so we have this topic, uh, I do, do you have any health corner updates? Christina:I don’t have any health corner updates. I was going to ask you because yeah, we have a topic that we’ve punted for like four weeks that we have to get to, but we have to also start with our like Brett slash Christina’s health corner stuff. Brett:yeah, like our core [00:01:00] segments Christina:that is our core Brett:that end the, who did Christina piss off this week segment. Christina:totally. Which, um, I don’t think is anybody so Brett:and I don’t really have a, uh, like my sleep has settled down. I haven’t like that whole like manic cycle a week thing chilled out. Haven’t had one, since we last talked, um, my sleep has been decent. I’ve been getting like seven hours a night. Which is it’s it’s enough to get through, but I’m definitely more, uh, relaxed and less anxious if I sleep for eight to eight and a half hours a night. So I’m just on the cusp of being like tired all day. Christina:Hence the name of the show. Brett:It’s it’s true. It’s true. Except I’m I’m like, I’m just tired, not over tired. Christina:So tired. We’ll get there. [00:02:00] Brett:Um, yeah. Yeah. So, so, uh, this topic we’ve been punting on because it’s not like, uh, it’s, it’s not an inflammatory or divisive topic for most people and it’s, it’s not the most exciting thing we’ve had to talk about over the last few months, It is something that you have invested some time in. So let’s talk about this state of eating tablets. Christina:Yes, it’s something I’ve invested, not just time but money. And, uh, now obviously that could be a lot of things that have invested money in because as we discussed before, that’s how I’ve been dealing with the whole last year is just to blindly buy things. Um, I don’t eat my feelings, I buy them. So, um, I’m not sure what’s more unhealthy to be totally honest. Uh, anyway, Brett:bill. Christina:I mean, yeah, but like, I don’t have any debt, so it’s, I don’t know. Um, I also don’t have a house. So, you know, it, [00:03:00] it is what it is. Uh, yeah, so tablets. So this is an interesting thing. I hadn’t really thought about the state of, of eating tablets in a really long time. And a couple of years ago, I guess, close to four years ago now a tablet called the remarkable came out and it, along with another tablet. Tony, we’re kind of this next wave of eating tablets that were more than just, um, and an eating for, for, uh, listeners who might not be. Transcript Christina [00:00:00] Christina:You’re listening to overtired. I’m Christina Warren here with Brett Terpstra. Brett, how are you? Brett:I am. I’m good. I’m good. My, my, like, like a cycle of like, uh, having a manic episode a week seems to be, I think I’m in the clear, I think I’m good. How are you? Christina:Okay, so we’re going to do Christina’s health corner of this week. Um, Brett:We never do. Christina’s health corner. Christina:we don’t and yet, yeah, so I take, um, an antidepressant called, uh, Trintellix and I take, I’m supposed to take a dose like at night. And, and the reason I take it at night, instead of in the morning with my other pills is because like, it’s sometimes can like upset my stomach or something. And it’s just, it’s a weird thing. So I take it at night. Well, I miscalculated and I. Ran out of doses. And I realized this [00:01:00] yesterday at like 10:00 PM. Um, so I’ll, I’ll pick up my prescription today, but I didn’t take it last night. And as a result, even though the half-life on it, isn’t super bad. It’s not like effects are aware if you miss a dose, like you immediately feel like withdrawal symptoms, like instantly like a, I had really weird. Dreams and kind of like fitful dreams, meaning that like seven or nine minutes would seem like way longer than it normally is. And this has happened before when I forgot to take it to us for whatever reason. So like really weird dreams, kind of uneven sleep. And I’m just feeling, I’m going to be honest with the listeners and with you, I’m just feeling kind of, not completely with it. Brett:yeah, I’m on, I’m on, um, uh, not Abilify. Uh, Lamictal is like, I get [00:02:00] withdrawal from that. It’s a mood stabilizer. And if I miss a dose of that, uh, not only do I get all like skin Crawley and like this weird physical, anxious feeling, uh, I also get that. Not quite with it feeling Christina:Yeah, this is, yeah, this is weird. Cause it’s not, like I said, it’s not like a normal sort of withdrawal feeling. I mean, like, it is a withdrawal of sorts, but it’s not like a normal sort of that, like it, I don’t have the, the skin Crawley. I don’t have like the feeling like I’m going insane kind of thing. Like I do with, um, like if I miss like an effects or dose or something, Um, affects her is really bad. Um, if you miss, like the half-life on that is so short, that it’s bad. Um, I once had to, um, an ex-boyfriend in college once contacted me because his new girlfriend, I guess, had been staying with him and, um, like left her pills, like at our [00:03:00] house, I guess, like she lived in like South Carolina or something and she was like, Going crazy because she was off her meds and was like, withdrawing, like crazy. So he like reached out to me because he was freaking out. So she like came over and she was like, can I like, you know, I had to like find out her dose. And I was like, how many pills do you need? And she was like, I just needed one. I was like, no, how many do you actually need? Because it was one of those things where like our breakup was not great. And it was still one of those things where I was like, yeah, I don’t want to wish this on anyone. So. For his sake and her sake, I was like, here, I will, I will give you a couple of pills. Um, so it’s not like that, but I am like totally kind of all over the place and yeah, the, the sleep thing. Is like the weirdest part because, um, a like took me forever to go to sleep. And then once I finally did, I was just in like, these really like fitful, but like intense kind of REM cycles where [00:04:00] my alarm would go off and, you know, I’d hit the snooze and like, I’d have like nine minutes of seemingly actual sleep, but like I’d have dreams and stuff, which almost never in that period of time. Uh, and

[00:00:06] Brett: [00:00:06] I am so tired. [00:00:09] Christina: [00:00:09] This is going to be like a classic overtired episode for, uh, for our long time listeners. Right [00:00:15] Brett: [00:00:15] I think, I think I’m as tired as the day that we came up with the name over tired in an elevator in San Francisco [00:00:24] Christina: [00:00:24] at Twitter. [00:00:26]Brett: [00:00:26] at Twitter. [00:00:27] Christina: [00:00:27] Yeah, it was in Twitter. It was in Twitter’s offices. [00:00:30]Brett: [00:00:30] Yeah, I don’t. I was so tired. I don’t remember. [00:00:34] Christina: [00:00:34] Actually, I don’t remember. It might not have been at Twitter’s offices cause we had lunch at Twitter and I don’t remember if we recorded it Twitter. We recorded it at another startup. [00:00:43] Brett: [00:00:43] Yeah. Where did we, where did we do that live episode? Like we sat down, I think it was with, with Dave. yeah. Yeah. It’s been how many years? Like eight years. [00:00:58] Christina: [00:00:58] Well, it’s been like six, [00:01:00] almost seven [00:01:01] Brett: [00:01:01] Wow. Time flies. [00:01:04] Christina: [00:01:04] Totally flies. [00:01:05] Brett: [00:01:05] My, uh, my cats, my older cat, his sister went with my ex-wife and moved to Ohio and she got, uh, she got very sick and I found out yesterday that she was being put down. [00:01:25] Christina: [00:01:25] Oh, I’m so sorry. [00:01:27] Brett: [00:01:27] and I was doing okay with it. Like it, it really brings into focus like Yetis mortality, [00:01:33] Christina: [00:01:33] I was going to say, yeah, [00:01:35] Brett: [00:01:35] but then a D D posted pictures of like her. [00:01:40] Have you ever put a pet to sleep when they like wrap them in the towel? And you, you do like the comfort whole list. They go like a D D took a picture of Jessie bell in that towel. And I saw it and I just, just started crying. That was intense. [00:01:59] Christina: [00:01:59] no, that isn’t [00:02:00] intense. Um, mean I’m not going to judge how many, but he deals with their grief or anything at all, but that’s, that’s a lot, you know, I mean, in terms of taking the photo and like putting it on Facebook, I mean, I do too. [00:02:10] Brett: [00:02:10] when Emma died, I took a picture of her paw as she laid on the, on the table where she eventually got put to sleep. And I posted it with just the, uh, just the tagline. Uh, you did good, babe. And like, I see that in my, in my history and it still chokes me up every time. [00:02:33] Christina: [00:02:33] I mean, it chokes me up just like hearing about it, to be honest. And like I said, I’m not judging anything because people deal with grief that way. And like I’m in no way saying like you can’t or shouldn’t do that. I’m just saying that is, you know, impactful. I’m not going to use the word triggering because that word is so loaded with so much bullshit, but you know what I mean? [00:02:53] Brett: [00:02:53] bullshit. [00:02:54] Christina: [00:02:54] Honestly, uh, I I’m so mad at both us the libs for [00:03:00] like feeding into it and also, you know, the people who have co-opted it and made it this negative term. Like, honestly, I’m like pissed at everyone for ruining that word. [00:03:08] Brett: [00:03:08] there is legitimate, uh, and powerful meaning to the word, but it definitely became a divisive, uh, where you make fun of people with [00:03:18] Christina: [00:03:18] Yes. Yes. So I am saying like impacted, uh, you know, when you see that stuff, like I said, I’m not

[00:00:10] Christina: [00:00:10] You just nailed it. I’m so excited for you. Uh, I’m pretty good. I’m pretty good. It is. Uh, I was, I said like when we were talking pre-show it’s it’s the last day of a school meeting is the last day of like the hellish, like four years. We’ve just spent. We’re about to graduate into something better, hopefully [00:00:30] Brett: [00:00:30] Yeah. And the seniors are totally dissing the freshmen. [00:00:34] Christina: [00:00:34] completely, completely. [00:00:38] Brett: [00:00:38] Yeah. [00:00:40] Christina: [00:00:40] So, yeah, that was an illusion for anybody out there. This is as we’re recording, this is the last day of the Trump administration, um, which, uh, knock on wood. And I’m literally knocking on wood because. We, I don’t want to tempt fate, but it does seem like we [00:01:00] somehow, barely. And I do mean barely got out of this, um, without like nuclear apocalypse. [00:01:09] Brett: [00:01:09] It does feel like a close call. Uh, where are we at with like the violence predictions right now? [00:01:18] Christina: [00:01:18] Uh, the FBI and people are on it. So I think that there are still some predictions, but I don’t think, I think at this point, a lot of people are spooked. If that makes any sense, like I’m not expecting. There to be a huge anti protest on Wednesday, but I don’t think anybody knows. And the only reason I’m not expecting that is because they literally have, um, police officers going and getting right gear and stuff from hotel lobbies in DC. [00:01:50] Like [00:01:51] Brett: [00:01:51] Don’t they have like tens of thousands of national guard troops deployed in DC. Now [00:01:56] Christina: [00:01:56] Exactly exactly. It’s like, Oh, it only took an insurgency for [00:02:00] you to actually, you know, listen to what these people are saying that they’re going to do and, and, and beefing up security around this stuff. It only took that. Um, so, so I feel like to me, it’s Danny with, with faint praise, you know what I mean? [00:02:15] It’s like, it’s kind of like, The TSA is a terrible institution, but it took nine 11 for airports to actually like, do anything about security, you know, [00:02:26] Brett: [00:02:26] Yeah. To at, to at least have some security theater, I suppose. [00:02:30] Christina: [00:02:30] Yeah. And, and in some cases they have actually copyable, like, I don’t think enough to like, be able to justify some of the more egregious TSA rules having said that like other countries have taken on stuff too. [00:02:42] And, and yeah. At least have a security theater with it. You know what I mean? But I think of anything else, like the theater probably does scare some of your less like zealous people from, from doing it because they’re like. Well, I’m going to get caught, you know? Um, [00:02:58] Brett: [00:02:58] a word. Is [00:03:00] it zealous or is it, is it zealous when you’re referring to a zealot? [00:03:04] Christina: [00:03:04] I think it’s selfless when you’re referring to [00:03:06] Brett: [00:03:06] If it’s not a word it is now [00:03:08] Christina: [00:03:08] I pretty sure that it zealous as a word Buzzell. Cause zealous, I think is the, is the adjective Andela this would be like the adverb. [00:03:16] Brett: [00:03:16] of zealots. Yes. Anyway, I do. Yeah. I do think, I think that theater discourages, wel

[00:00:13] Christina: [00:00:13] I’m not sure, but you should. [00:00:15] Brett: [00:00:15] it’s three things. It’s me. It’s you it’s over tired. It shouldn’t be so complicated. [00:00:20] Christina: [00:00:20] It’s like, hi, welcome to overtired. I’m Brett Terpstra. She’s Christina Warren. [00:00:24] Brett: [00:00:24] That’s yeah, I don’t. I should just w I should stop even trying and you should just permanently do the intro. [00:00:31] Christina: [00:00:31] I actually think that’s probably the correct idea. [00:00:33] Brett: [00:00:33] probably best. [00:00:38] I just, I just, my mind freezes. Right? As soon as the, as soon as the intro music and my mind just goes like into a blank slash panic mode. Anyway, how have you been this week? [00:00:53] Christina: [00:00:53] okay. Um, I’m, I’ve been good. I have, I have a yarn to tell, uh, what’s what’s becoming kind of a. [00:01:00] A typical thing for us where, you know, like it’s becoming a segment, which is who is Christina pissed off to speak on the internet, but it’s a good one. Um, but before I get into that and it involves the creator of the QCAT [00:01:14] Brett: [00:01:14] Oh, my. [00:01:15] Christina: [00:01:15] yeah. [00:01:16] Uh, which, uh, we found out what, what, what he’s doing and, um, [00:01:21] Brett: [00:01:21] I can’t wait to hear. [00:01:23] Christina: [00:01:23] Wow. Wow. But yeah, but, but let’s, uh, before that let’s hit up, um, uh, mental health corner first. [00:01:30] Brett: [00:01:30] Yeah. So, uh, can I go first? [00:01:33] Christina: [00:01:33] I obviously [00:01:35] Brett: [00:01:35] I think I went manic this morning. All right. And we’ve talked about how much I kind of. Missed yet. Yeah, I was scared. Like, I don’t want to be manic, but I’ve gotten so much done today. Uh, but what’s happening. Like I had a psychiatrist appointment yesterday and I mentioned that I didn’t think my Vyvanse was working anymore. [00:01:58] And we [00:02:00] settled on trying a new stimulant. Uh, we’re going to try the XR version of Focalin. And Focalin has worked really well for me in the past. But last time I tried it, it sent me into a manic episode. So I assumed that it was the focal in’s fault. Turns out. Like I, I didn’t pick up my new prescription until noon today and I won’t start taking it until tomorrow morning, but I’m already manic. [00:02:27] It has nothing to do with Focalin. It has to do with the excitement of thinking. I’m going to be able to get back to work every time I like have a rough time working. And then, uh, the, uh, there’s a solution on the horizon. I get excited. And then my brain just takes that all the way to fucking manic. Um, so that’s where I’m at right now. [00:02:54] Oh, how are you doing. [00:02:56] Christina: [00:02:56] I’m doing pretty good. I don’t know. I just. [00:03:00] I I’ve struggled as my mental health definitely struggled a lot in 2020, and I’m hoping that it’ll be better in 2021, bu

And even though [00:01:00] technically it started Friday, I still had meetings Friday, even though I was off and I had a meeting yesterday. [00:01:07] I’m done for the rest of the year. Like I’m done. I’m not like I’m not doing anything for work until January 4th. So, um, other than podcasting, but like for my day job, I’m like, I’m not, I’m done. So, um, yeah, [00:01:23] Brett: [00:01:23] nice. I remember vacation time. I haven’t done that in years. [00:01:30] Christina: [00:01:30] I haven’t either. Which is the problem. I mean, last time I did, it was like in, in any like prolonged since was. A year ago when I was in, um, Atlanta for like a month with my parents. And then I went to Tampa for this. I have to be careful because, well, it was a wedding, but it let’s just say that it portended a lot of things. [00:01:54] Like, let’s just say the way that I wrong in 2020 was like a pogrom or whatever the [00:02:00] term is like, it was like a premonition of something terrible about to happen. For a lot of reasons, and I would love to talk about it more freely, but, um, I can’t, uh, just, just, uh, for, uh, I guess, uh, politeness, uh, to, to people that are easily identifiable online, if I’m able to like, you know, mention them sort of things. [00:02:22] Um, so the last time that I had off for an extended period, Was a year ago and how Microsoft vacation works as it does it at most companies is that if you don’t use a certain amount within a certain period of time, you lose it. Um, if you’re, um, a resident of California, they can’t do that. It doesn’t expire, but in other States it does. [00:02:44] So I got like an email where they’re like, Hey, you have like 90 hours that if you don’t use, you will lose. And I’m like, Oh shit. Like that’s, that’s not good. Right. So, um, I had to start taking [00:03:00] random days off because we get a certain amount of like prepaid, you know, kind of holidays, like things that are considered company holidays. [00:03:06] And I was like, Oh yeah. Okay. I’m going to be like, I’m going to lose it. So I took some stuff where I was like, okay. I, you know, dipped into thin normal vacation period, but I’m really like using vacation from like two years ago. [00:03:22] Brett: [00:03:22] So when you’re on vacation with your, your hoity-toity corporate job, any chance that someone contacts you and says, Hey, I know you’re on vacation, but we need this done. Okay. That makes me feel better. Cause I, I can take kind of a vacation, but I still like, I can’t let customer support [00:03:44] Christina: [00:03:44] no, I mean, I mean, look. There

[00:00:03] Christina: [00:00:03] It is my turn to do the intro. You’re listening to overtired. I’m Christina Warren. That’s Brett Terpstra. What’s going on, Brett? How are you? [00:00:11] Brett: [00:00:11] I, so I woke up this morning, um, late, I should say I didn’t get up until like seven 30 this morning. And I woke up to a little scurrying, uh, around on my, uh, mattress or my what’s it called a dovey. And, uh, so here’s the backstory right now, while we’re getting used to this new kitten and this new kitten is getting used to us. [00:00:38] And our new, our old cat is getting used to the new kitten. We keep them separated. [00:00:44] Christina: [00:00:44] right? Yeah. This is what you were saying last week. [00:00:46] Brett: [00:00:46] So the kitten has her own room and there’s a gate like a child gate on the room. And yesterday, I, I went to feed the kitten and found her sitting on top of the gate, which [00:01:00] I thought, okay, she she’s curious, but she didn’t leave the room. [00:01:04] Uh, cats are territorial that she wants her territory. Um, and everything was fine until this morning when I realized that scurrying definitely wasn’t my 20 pound elder cat. It was either a mouse or the kitten had escaped the room. And so I looked up and saw a flasher for running, and she was kind of freaked out being in this big space. [00:01:33] That definitely wasn’t the territory she had gotten used to. So I had to coax her out from under a bookshelf and, uh, and get her back in a room. So now the door is closed. She no longer get the, uh, The child’s gate view of the outside world. She, she needs at least another week of, uh, of separation before yet. [00:01:56] He’s ready for, because you had went to the vet again [00:02:00] yesterday, he was walking around just peeing blood. [00:02:03]Christina: [00:02:03] Oh, [00:02:05] Brett: [00:02:05] cats are expensive, but he’s not dying. [00:02:09] Christina: [00:02:09] Okay. Well, we’ll, that’s good. It’s treatable. Okay. Well that’s, I’m glad it’s treatable. Cause it’d be very upsetting if it weren’t. Um, although that cause cause cat urine has a distinct smell and I have to imagine that like bloody cat urine [00:02:23] Brett: [00:02:23] well, so yeah, it wasn’t actually urine. Like he was, he was doing his normal business in the litter, but whatever he was walking around the house doing was really just, uh, like blood and. Clear fluid. This is gross. [00:02:41] Christina: [00:02:41] This is gross. I was going to say, let’s not talk about this. I really don’t want to I’m grossed out. And, and I, I, I don’t, I don’t want to talk about this. Um, okay. So [00:02:49] Brett: [00:02:49] here’s the thing though is when Yeti is, is ready to go, it will wreck me, but it will not be nearly as sad as having to [00:03:00] put Finnegan down at like nine months old. Like it will be, it will be sad but less tragic. [00:03:07]Christina: [00:03:07] well, right? Cause you, cause he’s lived a good life and, um, [00:03:11] Brett: [00:03:11] lived a great life. That cat has had everything. [00:03:15]Christina: [00:03:15] Right. So, yeah. I mean, it’s well, it’s, it’s different, right? Like it’s just, yeah.

Um, it’s been kind of a crappy week if I can be totally honest, but I’m happy to be here with you. [00:00:13] Brett: [00:00:13] well, I’m happy. You’re here with me. What? Anything specific? Crappy. [00:00:18]Christina: [00:00:18] So, uh, I was robbed. [00:00:22] Brett: [00:00:22] That’s crappy. [00:00:24] Christina: [00:00:24] Yeah. So, okay. Like, My apartment wasn’t broken into meaning like my personal apartment wasn’t broken into, but I live in, uh, I think that it’s fair to call it a luxury apartment building. I think that would be the appropriate way to define it. I think when you pay as much money in rent as we do, and, and you know, the way that it certainly sells itself on the website and the amenities that it offers and whatnot, I think that’s. [00:00:53] I think that’s how it would do, but this is important for the context. [00:00:55] Brett: [00:00:55] Sure. Sure. [00:00:56] Christina: [00:00:56] th th th th uh, so it’s it’s cause for instance, [00:01:00] if this had happened, when I lived in New York city, when I lived in Brooklyn, I would not have been, I mean, I would be upset, but it wouldn’t be the same sort of thing. This like adds to the violation, but so we pay 3,900 for rent. [00:01:14] We pay $300 a month for parking. And there’s a secured package area where you have to like we’re packages are delivered and it is outside, um, accessible through like an access card in the garage. Well, crack heads got a crack head and they broke into that room during Thanksgiving weekend and, uh, robbed it. And that included a bunch of packages of things that I had ordered over Thanksgiving. So I lost . I lost a very expensive pair of off white sneakers. I lost a switch that I bought for grant for Christmas. I lost, um, a bunch of other stuff and, uh, [00:02:00] all in all, um, it’s been very, very expensive. Um, Process. And now I get to deal with police reports and insurance companies and, and whatnot. [00:02:11] Oh. And, and incidentally, even though it is completely, in my opinion, the responsibility and the just absolute incompetency of the complex, they of course take no responsibility. [00:02:22] Brett: [00:02:22] Oh, well that sucks. But on the, on the bright side, Just imagine being someone who was so desperate, they had to break into a secure package areas and imagine how good a day they had, [00:02:40] Christina: [00:02:40] Oh, [00:02:40] Brett: [00:02:40] like you made their [00:02:42] Christina: [00:02:42] Fuck off. Fuck off, dude. I have. Absolutely. No I, no, no, no, no, no, no, absolutely not. Absolutely not. Fuck off. no, [00:02:51] Brett: [00:02:51] I have been. I have been both mugged and I’ve had my apartment broken into and, and what little I had stolen. [00:03:00] Uh, this is all all happened back in college. I, it does not happen to me these days. I live in a, uh, fairly secure small town, but back then I had both experiences and I have to say, I would rather be mugged. [00:03:14] Um, mugging feels like a very, uh, personal violation, but you kind of focus it on one person who did this bad thing to you, and it leads to fear and it is a violation, but something about having your, your shit broken into. Feels a lot more, uh, like random, like maybe the whole world is bad and you start seeing, uh, evil everywhere you serve here. [00:03:38] Like nothing you have is secure anymore. Like that. I hate that feeling. [00:03:43] Christina: [00:03:43] Yeah. And that’s kind of it, and it’s kind of like, and then like, you’d like, look in, you’re like, okay, well, how did I, you know, like, um, like, Like, what did I do? Like,

Transcript Brett [00:00:00]Brett: [00:00:00] Hi, I’m Brett Terpstra, and we’re going to get the, uh, the intro in the proper order this week. So here it goes. Welcome to overtired. I’m Brett Terpstra. I’m here with Christina Warren. How’s it going, Christina? [00:00:12] Christina: [00:00:12] pretty good, Brett, pretty good. Uh, w this is like classic overtired style, and that we are doing this at the crack ass of Dawn my time. So we’re both going to be a little bit tired. Um, how are you? [00:00:26] Brett: [00:00:26] I haven’t slept all week. So yeah, I am fully over right now. I, we had to, we had to do a really sad thing this week. I’m not talking like really sad. I’m talking like tragic. [00:00:40] Christina: [00:00:40] yeah, no. I saw your Facebook post and like it broke my heart. And so I think we should just skip all the niceties and just go straight into, uh, into Brett’s mental health [00:00:50] Brett: [00:00:50] Yeah, right. So yeah. Speaking of mental health, uh, I’ll mention our two sponsors this week are, uh, better help, [00:01:00] uh, which is online counseling and, uh, ritual vitamins, which are great for all kinds of health stuff. So. That’s a good lead in, I guess, to the fact that, uh, we had a kitten born on, uh, born on Valentine’s day. [00:01:18] And, uh, and we got him, uh, after about eight weeks and, uh, we named him Finnegan and he w his nickname was loved pig because he would just crawl up on your shoulder and purse so loud that you couldn’t hear anything. And he just, he was so good. And then he got FIP, which is, uh, it’s caused by a Corona virus and it, uh, causes fluid buildup and, uh, it it’s terminal. [00:01:51] And we had to put him down last week, uh, at the age of like nine months. And it was the saddest thing I’ve ever [00:02:00] done. I’ve put plenty of animals to sleep over the years. But this was the hardest. [00:02:07]Christina: [00:02:07] Uh, I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry. I don’t even like losing pets is the hardest anyway, but yeah, no. And I saw your Facebook posts. I was just like, my heart went out to you and L because. I can’t even imagine, you know, something to who, it seemed like you really connected with this, with this kitten and you know, for it to be so little. [00:02:27] And, uh, I’m so sorry. [00:02:29] Brett: [00:02:29] Yeah. And it was the first pet that Ella and I got together. Uh, all, all of our other pets came into the relationship. And, uh, and we’re very attached to one or the other of us and Finnegan was kind of both of ours after he got sick, he became, uh, a momma’s boy. He always wanted to be an L’s lap, which was fine. [00:02:50] I think I’m better at petting animals than she is, but she’s the, uh, she’s the chill nurturing one. Uh, and I think he, [00:03:00] he just wanted to curl up in her lap while she knit and just his breathing got labored over time. and we didn’t want him to slowly suffocate. So [00:03:10] Christina: [00:03:10] no. You wanted to do the humane thing. Uh, is there like, is there anything preventative that, like, I know some feline diseases, like they have vaccines and stuff. Is there [00:03:21] Brett: [00:03:21] I don’t think there is the, like they say 80 to 90% of all cats get exposed to this Corona virus. Uh, and only about one in 5,000 actually develop FIP from it. So, uh, to really your cat’s immune system will determine whether or not this happens. And I’ve talked to him since, cause I posted about this. [00:03:45] Um, and since posting, I’ve h

Transcript Brett [00:00:00] Christina: [00:00:00] Hello and welcome to over-tired. I’m Christina Warren. This is Brett Terpstra. How are you? Brett? [00:00:06] Brett: [00:00:06] I am, um, it’s snowing [00:00:09] Christina: [00:00:09] It’s snowing. [00:00:10] Brett: [00:00:10] in my, in, in Southeast Minnesota. Like they had snow up in Minneapolis, but down here in the Southeast corner of Minnesota, we hadn’t really had more than a dusting, but today we’ve got three inches and I had to shovel this morning and, um, I, I’m not. It’s like almost December and I’m still not ready for snow. [00:00:31] Christina: [00:00:31] Yeah, no, I mean, so well also, and I know that we’re getting into, uh, repeating ourselves, but, um, like. It still feels like it’s March. So the fact that it’s almost December doesn’t feel right, which means that the fact that it is snowing where you are, and it’s 44 degrees here in Seattle, which is colder for us, uh, is like, that’s still kind of blew my mind and then I’m realizing, I’m like, [00:01:00] Oh yeah, I’m actually not going to be in Australia this, this year. [00:01:05] Presumably when, um, It might snow and freeze here, which is what happens well has happened the last two years in February. So [00:01:15] Brett: [00:01:15] I’m [00:01:15] Christina: [00:01:15] good luck. I mean, I’m sorry, I won’t be in Australia too, but it’ll be interesting to see that actually, no, because I want to be able to get, I won’t even really be able to see the city implode on itself with the snow and the ice because no one’s going anywhere. [00:01:29] Brett: [00:01:29] does, does Seattle Ray. I know like Atlanta, Georgia shuts down for a heavy rain, um, and snow kills them. Is Seattle the same way? [00:01:38] Christina: [00:01:38] it’s worse. [00:01:39] Brett: [00:01:39] know it doesn’t shut down for rain. That’s all it does in [00:01:41] Christina: [00:01:41] Uh, well, it doesn’t rain usually like in big buckets, but for snow. Yeah, no, it’s snow. It’s actually worse. I was not aware that any place could be worse than Atlanta, Georgia in dealing with the snow Atlanta, Georgia famously known as the place where the school buses didn’t leave in [00:02:00] time. [00:02:00] And. And kids got stranded on the buses for 12 hours and parents had to, had to trudge through like by foot to come get the kids. We were taught. We’re talking there, I think about like three and a half inches of snow, right? Like, like nothing. So in Seattle, two years ago in 2019, it was, I guess like the heaviest snow that it happened in a while and it was icy and, um, the city was just totally unprepared and we had an offsite. [00:02:29] But it was in Redmond. So it was like, uh, you know, over the, the, um, the bridge across Lake Washington and they don’t salt the sidewalks or anything. And so I was like walking from the hotel I was staying at. Yeah. I was staying at a hotel, even though it was like, literally. You know, 20 minutes away, but it was a good thing I did do that. [00:02:49] I did it because it was, it was going to be like an all week thing and coming back and going home, it’s going to be hard. And my boss let me expensive, but it wound up being a good thing because if I’d had to commute in, [00:03:00] I wouldn’t have been able to, because even walking. Because they didn’t isolate thing. [00:03:04] Like I almost slipped and fell a couple of times, like grant had to bring me my New York, snow galoshes. I’m a college student. And I think the family sued and won a lot of money as they should have sued the university of Washington, because they didn’t have any like b

[00:00:06] Brett: [00:00:06] I’m good. We’re we’re recording mid day today. So w we’re just trying new things every week. Now. [00:00:12] Christina: [00:00:12] we are. And, and I apologize that I was not able to do my normal time, but I had to go to the doctor to like, get more antibiotics because I’ve had the sinus infection and they gave me drugs for it, but the drugs were not strong enough. And so I called Teladoc again and they were like, Give it some time, if it doesn’t go away, then like go in and whatnot. [00:00:33] And then it’s been like a week and a half in greatly, too long and got to the point yesterday. Like I was having a hard time swallowing and my ear was hurting so bad. I couldn’t sleep. So now I’m on. So now I’m on like a Keflex, uh, um, uh, which you know, is super, super, super strong. So hopefully [00:00:50] Brett: [00:00:50] It’s not the COVID though. [00:00:52]Christina: [00:00:52] No, it’s not the COVID. [00:00:54] Brett: [00:00:54] Okay. I, the reason I had originally moved the appoint or our [00:01:00] scheduled recording time was because I had an eye exam and I hate like, my vision hasn’t changed in 10 years, maybe 20 years. I haven’t, I haven’t changed my prescription since like high school. And. Yeah. And to order contacts, I have to have an exam every two years. [00:01:22] So I keep every two years I called order my contacts and they say, you have to have an eye appointment. And I say, okay. And I go in and they push a bunch of, they dilate my eyes and puff air in them and everything. And then I can’t see you for half a day and nothing ever changes. And yeah, so I couldn’t, here’s what I realized today though, when my eyes are dilated, I’ve always put my contacts back in before I leave. [00:01:50] But today I wore glasses and it turns out when my eyes are fully dilated. I can’t see close up with my glasses on, but if I take them off, I’m fine. I [00:02:00] always thought I was just completely blind for a few hours after dilation. Do you wear glasses? Does any of this make any sense to you? [00:02:07] Christina: [00:02:07] no, it makes complete sense to me. Okay. So I’m pretty nearsighted. I’m like. I don’t know my, my, my, my vision. Isn’t great. Um, and I’ve been wearing contact lenses since I was eight years old. So, um, I do have a prescription for glasses, but I haven’t had them filled in forever. So my glasses, if I could even find them are terrible, like they wouldn’t work, but, um, My, my, my, uh, new usually stays about the same. [00:02:35] I think I’m on negative six. Um, so not super good. Uh, but like it could be worse or whatever. I do totally understand what you mean about the having the dilated people’s stuff. And even when they gave me like the reverse drops, it still takes a while. And it’s hard because what’ll happen is that first my vision will come back a little bit and then it’s focusing on like stuff that’s up close that becomes [00:03:00] like really, really difficult, at least for me. [00:03:04] Um, so, so like, My vision. I don’t know if yours is the same way. Like I can see up close normally, like great. It’s when you get more than, I don’t know, 12 inches away that I started to have problems [00:03:15] Brett: [00:03:15] Yeah, I do. I do. Okay. Up to 12 inches. I’m the opposite of a cat. Did you know cats are blind within

Transcript Brett [00:00:00] Christina: [00:00:00] You are listening to overtired with Brett Terpstra and me Christina Warren, what’s up Brett. [00:00:07] Brett: [00:00:07] Oh, that was a really good intro. Like I feel like we finally are getting like the order of words, right. [00:00:13] Christina: [00:00:13] I know. Finally it’s only taken, uh, like close to a hundred episodes, but Hey, we’ve done it. [00:00:19] Brett: [00:00:19] We, we have learned how to, how to talk [00:00:22]Christina: [00:00:22] That’s an important thing, English. [00:00:25] Brett: [00:00:25] Yeah. Um, I’m pretty good. I’m pretty good. Uh, well rested. How are you? [00:00:30] Christina: [00:00:30] Uh, I am also fairly well rested, although, uh, I don’t want to get straight into health corner, but, but I, I had like, uh, I had some anxiety stuff last night, so I had to take a Klonopin. So that makes the whole like wake up thing a little more difficult. But other than that, I’m good. I’m good. And I mean, by and large, I can’t be too mad. [00:00:55] It’s 11, 11, great day. It’s officially a [00:01:00] Constantine day for something corporate fans that will absolutely not make sense to anyone in our audience whatsoever do not care. Uh, but it’s also more importantly the day before my birthday. So this is actually, [00:01:13] Brett: [00:01:13] geez. Happy birthday. I’m sure Facebook would have notified me of that tomorrow, but it’s it’s [00:01:20] Christina: [00:01:20] Oh, and then, and I’m a dumb ass. It is, it is not 1111. It is 1110. So it’ll be 11, 11 tomorrow. And then Thursday is my birthday. [00:01:30] Brett: [00:01:30] will go out. This will go out on 11, 11. [00:01:34] Christina: [00:01:34] This is true. So yeah, so, so the day after this goes out, everyone should just inundate me with, um, uh, birthday wishes of tomfoolery and say, Christina, congratulations, you are, you are 29 for an nth time. [00:01:48] Brett: [00:01:48] 29. I remember 29. [00:01:51] Christina: [00:01:51] Me too. That’s why I’m, that’s why I’m never turning 30. [00:01:55] Brett: [00:01:55] Yeah. I was 21 for years. I got my, I got [00:02:00] my fake ID at like 19 and I was. And then like, after I was actually 21, I kept getting a fake ID to say I was 21 for a couple more years because I had this whole Peter pan thing. I’m like, I’m going to be 21 forever. [00:02:14] Christina: [00:02:14] Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, this meet with 29, although my fake ID. So I got it when I was 16 and I just got it to say that I was 18 because I was trying to get into some like 18 and up shows. Like I wasn’t actually trying to drink. I was just trying to get into some shows while the thing is, is that that ID then suddenly became a year 21 ID right around the time I went to college. [00:02:41] It was pretty great. [00:02:43]Brett: [00:02:43] Um, okay, so enough illegal ID talk. [00:02:48] Christina: [00:02:48] This, this, this, this, this, this, [00:02:49] Brett: [00:02:49] Um, have you heard the news about, uh, what’s his name? Uh, Joe Biden. [00:02:54] Christina: [00:02:54] uh, that he won, [00:02:57] Brett: [00:02:57] Uh, one something, what was it? [00:02:59] Christina: [00:02:59] I think [00:03:00] it’s, I think it’s president of the local commerce, no president of the United States. That’s it. [00:03:07] Brett: [00:03:07] Right, right, right, right. Um, people are saying that it wasn’t as decisive a victory as they, they hoped for, but seriously, in an incumbent election, it was, it was pretty decisive. [00:03:22] Christina: [00:03:22] Agreed. I mean, the thing is, is that I will say I okay. A. I think that we have now been proven, we can no longer listen to Nate silver, right? Like that’s number one. Uh, and I like Nate silver a lot, but his models for the last two cycles have been completely off. And, um, uh, this other podcast, I listened to this guy and I don’t, it wasn’t this podcast, even though I really don’t agree with either of the t

Transcript Overtired 212 [00:00:00] Brett: [00:00:00] It’s mine. It’s my week to do the intro. Welcome to overtired, uh, with Christina Warren and Brett Terpstra. How’s it going, Christina? [00:00:07] Christina: [00:00:07] Well, I am living up to the show’s name. I am like very tired. I got like an hour and a half. Two hours of sleep. [00:00:17]Brett: [00:00:17] Yeah, like I’ve, I’ve done that many times. Like I can relate to what mornings look like after two hours of sleep, but what’s going on for you? [00:00:26] Christina: [00:00:26] no, just insomnia. [00:00:27] Brett: [00:00:27] Oh, no. [00:00:28] Christina: [00:00:28] no just like insomnia and, and fear and dread over like the state of everything. [00:00:35] Brett: [00:00:35] Yeah, no, I feel like, I feel like our mental health corner starts right here. [00:00:39] Christina: [00:00:39] I, yeah, I was going to say like, we shouldn’t even do any preambles. So for, uh, for listeners, we are recording this on a Tuesday morning at 7:30 AM. Pacific time, 10:30 AM Eastern. So [00:00:54] Brett: [00:00:54] Live election coverage. [00:00:56] Christina: [00:00:56] Yep. Yep. Um, I, uh, I see the New [00:01:00] York times has brought back the dam, um, button thing, like the, like the, um, to show, like, you know, like where things are. [00:01:10] Uh, no, we don’t. I have like genuine PTSD from the last election. And from that damn like, you know, uh, whatever that thing is called, like the. Uh, the, the gauge. Yeah, there we go. Meet her. Yes. The, the, the, the election meter, like from the New York times election meter, I was like mother fucker. Like I genuinely have like, like PTSD and I’m I not actual PTSD, [00:01:38] Brett: [00:01:38] You’d be surprised actually. [00:01:40] Christina: [00:01:40] all, all I was going to say though, but the thing is, is that I do have like a visceral, like, Actual like physical reaction to thinking back about where I was four years ago and what happened four years ago. [00:01:52] Like, it’s a very real thing. And so I’m like I’m being flipped, but I’m also kind of not. So [00:02:00] seeing them bring that election meter thing back, even for just a couple of States, I was like, no, no, no, you are not doing that New York times. No, you are not like, because I just go back to where I was. Four years ago in New York city watching happen. [00:02:16] And I can still realize when it hit me and it hit me hours before. It, it hit a lot of other people, like, like grant was, was not where I was at. And it was like, I don’t know. It was probably, honestly it was probably seven 30, eight o’clock. But I think that I, I sent out a tweet that, that, that like, like 8:30 PM. [00:02:42] I remember this because business insider quoted it and like their election live blog thing or whatever. And I was like, I feel sick and. That was, you know, a good five hours before anything was like called. And, but, but I, it just, I could just see where it [00:03:00] was going. And I was like, I feel sick. just remember being in the Gawker offices and just watching and seeing everything and, and yeah, [00:03:10] Brett: [00:03:10] 30 they had called Florida. If I recall correctly, [00:03:14] Christina: [00:03:14] they were in the process. And that was the thing I think, I think actually that was [00:03:18] Brett: [00:03:18] yeah, the path, the path to the electoral win had already pretty much been sealed by eight 30 or nine o’clock. [00:03:24] Christina: [00:03:24] yeah, it wasn’t like, I think they were still holding out that Florida could be, um, like, uh, you know, could go one way or another, but I think that it

Transcript Brett [00:00:00]Christina: [00:00:00] Welcome back to overtired. Uh, I’m Christina and I’m here with Brett. How are you Brett? [00:00:06] Brett: [00:00:06] You’re you’re way better at intros than I am. I like, I start the intro and then I just blank because I’m used to doing the like systematic intro where it’s just me. And then I’m like, Oh, I have to incorporate another person into this. And then it comes out all awkward and weird. And we just keep it, like I could go back and rerecord that, but I feel like this show is all about. [00:00:29]Christina: [00:00:29] is I honestly, I think that people that are our loyal listeners, who’ve been listening to our, like, although we’ve actually been like on a very good schedule, uh, but in very consistent, but. Our listeners who have followed us through the last six years of, um, sporadic recordings. They, I feel like they would be bothered if it were too edited and too professional. [00:00:56] We have other podcasts for that. [00:00:58] Brett: [00:00:58] I’ll be honest. Like there are [00:01:00] times that we say things that are so wrong or so offensive that I do edit, like, and I’m sure neither of us goes back and listens to the shows. So you’ve probably never noticed the things that I’ve decided were not for public consumption. Um, But now that we’re recording, uh, this is Tuesday morning. [00:01:19] We’ll be publishing Wednesday at noon. So I don’t really have time anymore. So whatever happens here happens, [00:01:28] Christina: [00:01:28] shit. [00:01:28] Brett: [00:01:28] but we are, we are recording in the morning because we decided maybe we’re actually morning people and, uh, and let’s see what happens. [00:01:36] Christina: [00:01:36] Yeah, no, I mean, here’s what I’m discovering. So we were recording these on Saturdays and that was going okay. It was going better than I thought it would just be totally honest. I think I only played out like twice and, uh, and we had to reschedule and I sleep most weekends. So. That was actually pretty good, but what I found when we’ve had to record earlier for our schedules, for whatever purposes, [00:02:00] if I have to wake up at five 30 and I hate waking up early, uh, but if I wake up, you know, around five 30, six o’clock so that I can be ready to record this. [00:02:07] Cause we record this seven, my time I am, I come to the show, I’m like full of ideas. I’m ready to go. My sweets on Twitter are really good. Like when I wake up, I’m like, I should be, I should be a morning person, but I’m not a morning person yet. It’s so much more beneficial. I get so much out of it when I actually wake up early. [00:02:28] But yeah, no. [00:02:31]Brett: [00:02:31] Aye. Aye. I don’t know, I like to stay up all night, but it happens more often when I’m manic and, uh, but the hours between like, uh, maybe two and five are definitely my most productive. If I get up, if I sleep well and then get up at, say four 30 or five, I, I need like two hours to actually, um, [00:03:00] be social. [00:03:01] Like, I’m good. If I get right to work, I can send tweets and everything. But if you try to talk to me until I’ve had like an hour, just kind of sit with the news or whatever I decide to occupy my morning with, um, I’m not, uh, I’m not on the ball. It takes me like 30 seconds to respond to anybody who actually says words to me in the morning. [00:03:24]Christina: [00:03:24] yeah, I’m kind of the same way. And so that’s, I think why, like, if I can wake up. I kind of get my bearings and tweet about video game nostalgia and other bullshit and kind of, you know, catch up on, on the news and whatever terrible things are happening to the world, then it’s like, I’m, I’m better

Transcript Brett [00:00:00] Brett: [00:00:00] Hi, I’m Brett Terpstra, and you’re listening to overtired with Christina Warren. That was a weird sequence I did that in. [00:00:09] Christina: [00:00:09] That was, but, uh, I don’t, I don’t mind it. I don’t mind it. Um, Hey Brett, how are you? [00:00:15]Brett: [00:00:15] I have a glass of ice tea, a cappuccino and candied ginger, which is like big slices of gin, ginger dried and covered in sugar. So good. I think, yeah, I’m good. [00:00:30] Christina: [00:00:30] I like it. I like it. Um, I, I’m not a huge ginger person, but that sounds delicious actually. [00:00:37] Brett: [00:00:37] It is, um, it, it has a nice burn to it, which is one of the better parts of ginger. [00:00:43]Christina: [00:00:43] Very nice. [00:00:45] Brett: [00:00:45] Have you, um, how’s your health doing? [00:00:49]Christina: [00:00:49] Well, my health is pretty good. I am tired this week, although less than I was when we recorded last time. Uh, it is, uh, our normal record day, which is [00:01:00] Saturday. I’m sleepy. I’m going to take a nap again after we finished recording, but I was able to get through the 25 hours of being or 26 hours of being awake the entire time. [00:01:12] This week. Yeah. But, uh, but I did it, uh, and so that’s super exciting. [00:01:19]Brett: [00:01:19] I feel like we should record in the mornings more often. We, we both seem to do really well with morning. Energy levels are up. Coffee is fresh. [00:01:31]Christina: [00:01:31] Yeah, I like it. I’m a fan, um, energy levels are up. Coffee is fresh and usually, yeah, cause right now it’s still the morning, but it’s afternoon for you. And, uh, it’s like the end of a week. So I’m just kind of, I’m in like a place, [00:01:47] Brett: [00:01:47] Yeah. So w what’s your excuse for being tired this week? [00:01:52] Christina: [00:01:52] Well, okay. I actually, I saw something on Twitter and it made me think, I bet this is an accurate [00:02:00] thing. That’s wrong with me. Uh, I haven’t been outside in so long and I think my vitamin D is probably low anyway, because Seattle, but it’s gotta be like nonexistent now. And I was like reading about how everyone has vitamin D deficiencies. [00:02:13] And I was like, Oh shit, I should get on that because. That probably is one of the reasons why I’m so kind of lethargic and tired. [00:02:22] Brett: [00:02:22] I’ve been taking vitamin D supplements with my bipolar and, and my ADHD. Uh, vitamin D deficiencies are really hard on me, uh, and vitamin E Omega threes, but I have a recommendation for you. [00:02:41] Christina: [00:02:41] what’s that? [00:02:41] Brett: [00:02:41] If you, um, if you start taking vitamin D get it in liquid form, [00:02:47]Christina: [00:02:47] okay. [00:02:48] Brett: [00:02:48] it’s more, more digestible. Uh, it it’s a lot, unless you get exactly the right, uh, formulation of the tablets or the capsules. [00:03:00] [00:03:00] You, you, you can very easily just pass it right through your system without ever absorbing it. So if you get it in liquid form, [00:03:06] Christina: [00:03:06] good in liquid form. Okay. That makes sense. Yeah. Um, okay, I’ll do that. Um, does that change how you get it? Like, do you have to go to a special, like, you don’t need a prescription or anything [00:03:15] Brett: [00:03:15] Oh, no, no. You can order any supplement. A service will provide, well, I shouldn’t say any, but any, any, you can probably find it on Amazon is what I’m saying. [00:03:27] Christina: [00:03:27] Yeah, no, that’s totally fine. That’s totally fine. Yeah. Um, I asked, because I know that you can, for instance, get stuff like, uh, like B12 supplements, like for under your, under your tongue. They’re not actually as good as it’d B12 shot, but to ge

Welcome to over-tired. How are you, Brett? [00:00:09] Brett: [00:00:09] I’m a, I am finishing off a oat milk cappuccino. I found an oat milk. You can actually froth and foam. And I’m getting really good at making them so, um, pleasant and warm on a rainy day. [00:00:25]Christina: [00:00:25] Very nice. That’s very nice. Uh, I am in typical, like this is classic overtired form because I have not slept and I am not only about to have a busy day today, but tomorrow I have. A stupid day where I have to basically do most of my regular work today. I’ll have a couple of hours maybe in the afternoon, and then I have to do for an internal event. [00:00:52] I have to do one of those overnight hosting things. [00:00:55] Brett: [00:00:55] Do you drink coffee? [00:00:56]Christina: [00:00:56] Um, yeah, [00:01:00] but [00:01:00] Brett: [00:01:00] What, what gets you through a day like today? [00:01:03]Christina: [00:01:03] Dexadrine. [00:01:05]Brett: [00:01:05] Pharmaceutical speed. Of course. [00:01:08] Christina: [00:01:08] Yeah. I mean, [00:01:10] Brett: [00:01:10] Um, so I, uh, you’re not a coffee person at all. Right. [00:01:14] Christina: [00:01:14] I mean, I drink it. I just am not like, it’s not like a thing that, like, I don’t have one of the, like, I don’t have to have it. You know what I mean? Like I enjoy it if it’s there, I’ll drink it, but I usually not going to go out of my way and make it or anything. No. [00:01:26] Brett: [00:01:26] Well for our listeners, I want to tell them about crema.co. Um, it’s this service. I don’t remember how he found it. It was probably an Instagram ad, uh, which I’m a sucker for. I hate that. Um, but it’s this, this site that sends you every day. You set the interval, but I have it every two weeks. They send me a new coffee from a playlist that I pick and they have a whole S whole interface for helping you find the coffees that you most [00:02:00] want. [00:02:00] And they source from a bunch of different, uh, roasters. And I have found since I started using it three new coffees that are better than anything copies that I’ve ever had before. So I feel like it’s worth sharing. I have an affiliate link. That’ll be in the show notes. And the deal with that is anyone who uses it gets $5 off each of their first four orders. [00:02:24] And I don’t get any money unless you keep going after four orders. So this isn’t about me. This is about me wanting you to find really good coffee and save yourself some money. [00:02:36] Christina: [00:02:36] It’s also about you because you want them to really enjoy the coffee. So they keep saying, uh, subscribe so that you can, um, rise up the pyramid and this weird multilevel marketing, uh, [00:02:48] Brett: [00:02:48] I get, I get, I get $20 one time for anyone that keeps a freaky, keeps going. [00:02:53]Christina: [00:02:53] awesome. I’m just teasing. I know that this isn’t quite a, um, [00:02:58] Brett: [00:02:58] It’s not at all. It’s just a [00:03:00] goddamn affiliate link, Christina. [00:03:02] Christina: [00:03:02] I know, I’m just, I’m, I’m making fun of you. And also the way, the way that they have it structured is very MLM. Like, but I know that this isn’t an MLM. I’m just making fun [00:03:10] Brett: [00:03:10] The [00:03:10] Christina: [00:03:10] but no, I mean, this sounds great. [00:03:12] Brett: [00:03:12] ones that drive me nuts are like, there are affiliate links that I feel dirty using, uh, that are very much, they, they feel too much like marketing and I, I can’t think of any off the top of my head cause I just don’t use those. But there are some that really try to get you

S2 Ep 208208: More Things Not to Talk About at Dinner

The topics in this episode comprise a guide to conversations which should probably be avoided in… most company. I suppose most Overtired episodes do. But this one hits on veganism, religion, politics, and TV. Ok, you can talk about TV at dinner. Be smart about it, though. [00:00:09] Brett: [00:00:09] Welcome to overtired. Uh, I’m Brett Terpstra here with Christina Warren. Hi Christina. [00:00:14] Christina: [00:00:14] hi, Brett, how are you? [00:00:16] Brett: [00:00:16] I’m. I’m awesome. I’m better than you. I heard you were, uh, you’re not feeling great. [00:00:22] Christina: [00:00:22] I’m not feeling great, but I am super happy to be here with you. [00:00:25] Brett: [00:00:25] Uh, as a result of you not feeling great, we’re actually recording right before we release, which is kind of exciting because we can be super topical and not worry that news is going to change. Well, some of the news we have to talk about honestly, could change between now and tomorrow when I publish. But. [00:00:46] Christina: [00:00:46] W, but, but, but, but we’re closer. I was going to say like, the thing is, is that if we recorded on Saturday as planned so much of the most topical stuff, they’ve been totally different because every hour it [00:01:00] seems like is, is a, is a new, um, horror slash uh, comedy of errors. I don’t, I don’t know really how to freeze it. [00:01:08] Brett: [00:01:08] Yeah, that sounds about right. a dumpster on fire floating in a river while the forest around it burns. [00:01:17] Christina: [00:01:17] And the sky is orange and, uh, yeah. Yeah. [00:01:22] Brett: [00:01:22] Yeah. Um, so I was going to tell you, just in response to your vegetarian question last time, uh, one thing that did happen. Is after, uh, weeks of intermittent fasting and really not losing much weight at all. Um, going vegetarian had the immediate effect of losing like five pounds. [00:01:47] Christina: [00:01:47] interesting. [00:01:48] Brett: [00:01:48] Yeah. Turns out meat is bad. [00:01:53] No one should eat meat. [00:01:56] Christina: [00:01:56] Uh, I mean, I don’t think that’s true. Although I think [00:02:00] there are lots of reasons to, to look other sources of protein and whatnot, but I don’t think. I’m not going to take that, like take away from [00:02:11] Brett: [00:02:11] Chicken. Oh, wait. [00:02:13] Christina: [00:02:13] see, right. Well, I mean, I did once about meat or beef anyway, because I found out there was like some, a thing called national beef steak month. [00:02:23] And I was so horrified that like such a thing would exist that I like was like, I’m not eating any beef or whatever for the month. And I became a new mic. [00:02:33] Brett: [00:02:33] yeah, how’d that go? [00:02:36] Christina: [00:02:36] uh, I mean, again, not great. Like, I, I, I like had to go to the doctor and like get on pills because I had anemia. Uh, again, that’s probably more of a reflection on my like bad diet in general, but it taught me at the ripe old age of 19 to not be political about my food. [00:02:56] Brett: [00:02:56] You said I became anemic and I thought you said I became vegan. [00:03:00] [00:03:00] Christina: [00:03:00] Oh, sorry. Yeah, no, I did not become vegan. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I became anemic and uh, yeah. And, and, but, but I D I did learn a lesson that for me personally, I was like, all right, Christina, just don’t be political about your food [00:03:14] Brett: [00:03:14] fair enough. Yeah. I’m not, I’m not, yeah, I wouldn’t, I wouldn’t vegetarian for my own health and my own, uh, ecological concerns, but yeah, I’m not, I am of the opinion that. Basically the entire population population of the U S would have to go vegetarian to actually make a real dent. It would have to be enough to get the meat industry itself to change. [00:03:42] Um, me converting a few of my friends to vegetarian. Isn’t it’s not worth the, uh, it’s like when I was a kid and it was my job to go out and convert

Transcript Overtired 207 [00:00:00] [00:00:00] Soundtrack: [00:00:00] Tired, so tired, overtired. [00:00:05]Christina: [00:00:05] Welcome to overtired. Uh, I’m Christina Warren. He’s Brett Terpstra. And, uh, we were just talking before we started recording that we think that this is the first time in the history of the, I don’t know, like five or six years of overtired existence that we are recording an episode early at my request. [00:00:27] Brett: [00:00:27] And as a result, it’s one of the few times we’ve ever not at least had a bullet list of potential topics. Like we are flying completely blind this episode, and anything could happen. [00:00:40] Christina: [00:00:40] I mean, we, we, well, anything except we won’t be inviting, um, uh, like, um, weird, uh, people who have museums dedicated to Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan [00:00:53] Brett: [00:00:53] still sounds like a delightful idea, [00:00:55] Christina: [00:00:55] it really does. [00:00:56] Brett: [00:00:56] on paper, it sounded like a great [00:01:00] idea. [00:01:01] Christina: [00:01:01] Faith. Thank you. Cause I, I felt bad about that over the years. I’m like, man, that was really terrible. But the concept and the reason I backed the Kickstarter was because it seemed awesome. And I was like, Oh, I would love to talk to these people. And then they were just terrible. [00:01:16] Brett: [00:01:16] Terrible people, but here’s the thing is now we have like a war story [00:01:21] Christina: [00:01:21] We do, [00:01:22] Brett: [00:01:22] something we can laugh about for years to come. [00:01:25] Christina: [00:01:25] Years and years to come. And, and for a, I don’t even know, I don’t, I don’t think that episode survived. Um, one of our migrations, but a long time, like, like cool kid listeners will recall that. Um, in the early days of overtired, we brought on some guests and, uh, it did not go well. [00:01:46] Brett: [00:01:46] I had a, I had a rough time. I don’t even, I can’t even remember. What was so wrong with it? I just remember eventually just going like silent and watching it unfold. [00:02:00] Yeah. We should start having some guests now. And then though, you know, I would love to have Ashley a Skedda back on. [00:02:08] Christina: [00:02:08] I would love to have her on too. She’s amazing. I would love to have her on and I actually kind of like threw it at him and half guilted him. But someone was mentioning because a listener was listening to us, talk about keyboards. And they’re talking about how, um, our, our, our pal Mike from really FM has gotten really into them. [00:02:28] And I was like, yes, let’s get Mike on. [00:02:31] Brett: [00:02:31] I got a really nice letter from a listener. Um, I probably should have shared it with you, but it turned into a whole like private conversation. Um, but he, he talked about how. Uh, now that he has a daughter who suffers from depression, it’s made him realize that he really doesn’t have depression. Like he has normal ups and downs, like, like people do. [00:02:54] And, uh, and it’s, it’s helped him realize that it’s nothing like [00:03:00] clinical depression, but then he also is even deeper into the mechanical keyboard thing than well, way deeper than I am. But even deeper than people I’ve known. Having he’s, he he’s a Devora keyboard user he’s [00:03:15] Christina: [00:03:15] Oh, wow. [00:03:16] Brett: [00:03:16] He also has an ultimate hacking keyboard. [00:03:18] So he’s gone through the same trials as I have trying to find custom keys to fit the weird layout, but he has gone through like every type of plastic, every type of a concave and UN UN. And sculpted and different etchings and different switches. Like he’s completely like D soldered and recycled all of his switches and it, like, he’s gone deep into it. [00:03:44] And he gave me some, some tips on where to find some, some keys and whatnot. [00:03:49] Christina: [00:03:49] Oh, that’s awesome. Um, well, if you, if you can share that part, uh, some of those [00:03:54] Brett: [00:03:54] Oh, for sure. Yeah. [00:03:55] Christina: [00:03:55] obviously don’t need to see together. But also that&#8

Transcript 01Intro + 2 [00:00:00] [00:00:00] Brett: [00:00:00] hold on. You’re ready. [00:00:09]Christina: [00:00:09] that is nifty. This is over. You’re listening to over-tired. I’m Christina Warren. [00:00:15] Brett: [00:00:15] She’s delighted. This is Brett TURPs dress. She’s delighted because I just, I, I rigged up this whole soundboard using my stream deck and loop back and, uh, audio hijack. So I can just hit a button. And play soundtrack stuff. And so we can do this live and save me maybe five minutes of editing. I put like an hour into building this soundboard, [00:00:40] Christina: [00:00:40] Right. So, but I love it actually. And it’s not about saving time because that’s not what any of the things that you build are about. It’s about the fact that you’ve done it. And, um, at some point maybe it will be time-saving, but it’s just really cool. I’m very excited. [00:00:59] Brett: [00:00:59] me [00:01:00] too. I just, I ordered a bigger stream deck. I ran out of buttons. [00:01:06] Christina: [00:01:06] I knew that it was going to happen. Cause you got the mini. I was like, man, you probably, you’re probably an Excel person if I’m being [00:01:11] Brett: [00:01:11] Cause, well, cause you can have folders, right? So like you can have five buttons in a folder, but you always lose one button to the back button and then you can have it switch profiles. So you can get six entirely different buttons depending on what app is in the foreground. But for something like a soundboard, I need it in the foreground. [00:01:30] Even when I’ll talk about it after it comes out, I wrote, Oh, so w we’ll get to this, we’ll get to why I wrote all next week posts already. Um, but first I’m currently in a text chat with my cousin who I don’t talk to often. [00:01:47] Haven’t really spoken with her since. Probably the nineties. Um, but we’re catching up and she she’s in California. And so like 20 minutes from her, there are [00:02:00] fires right now and they’ve been locked inside for, with the air quality, the way it is. How’s your end of the West coast. [00:02:07] Christina: [00:02:07] Real not good, obviously, not as bad as California in terms of, um, you know, the horrors that are happening, like the skies aren’t orange, and we don’t have wildfires breaking out, although Oregon, which is just, you know, below us does, but the air quality right now, I’m trying to pull it up on my phone. The air quality right now is let’s see what the number is. [00:02:34] Is two 37, which is, is very much in the very unhealthy category. And like, there’s this, this color kind of wheel it’s in the purple. And there’s only one color after that. It’s at the beginning of the purple, but there’s only one color after that. That’s like this, this deep kind of Mav color, which I’m assuming is like, You’re, you’re not allowed to, you know, go anywhere without a really good [00:03:00] filter mask. [00:03:00] And on the one hand, like I haven’t gone outside cause pandemic. And so like on the one hand, I guess it’s good that everybody is, is forced to wear masks for social distancing reasons. On the other hand, the, the fabric mask don’t do shit for this. [00:03:17] Brett: [00:03:17] Right. [00:03:18] Christina: [00:03:18] So. You know, this is one of those situations where you really would want the people P E like, like the, the in 95 masks. [00:03:25] Brett: [00:03:25] well, what’s actually, uh, I can’t remember what all the letters and numbers mean. It’s pretty, it’s pretty intuitive, but I forget, um, the, the masks that would be best for air quality are not good for viral spread. So like at this point, everyone needs to have at least three different kinds of mask on them at all times. [00:03:46]If you’re in California, I mean, I don’t need a pollution mask. [00:03:50] Christina: [00:03:50]

Transcript Brett and Christina-1 [00:00:00]Brett: [00:00:00] Welcome to overtired. We used to go back and forth on doing these, uh, these, these intros. And I’ve just been, I’ve just been taking them. I haven’t even given you a chance, Christina. [00:00:12] Christina: [00:00:12] you haven’t. And you know, I was actually thinking that I was like, I guess this is just the Brett show now. Now I’m kidding. Uh, [00:00:19] Brett: [00:00:19] always been the bread show. Let’s be honest. [00:00:22] Christina: [00:00:22] This is true. It has always been the fresh show. Yeah, no, we used to always go back and forth. Let’s try that for next week. I’ll try to, to introduce it again for our long time listeners, but for, for new people. [00:00:34] Brett: [00:00:34] Why don’t we do? Why don’t we do both this week? Why don’t, why don’t you do it right now? [00:00:38]Christina: [00:00:38] welcome to overtired. I’m Christina Warren, how are you doing Brett? [00:00:44] Brett: [00:00:44] I am good. Um, Yeah, this feels better. We should have done this to start with. That should have been the way we started the episode. I, uh, so yeah. Okay. I had some, I had some, uh, some ADHD medication issues this week, but I [00:01:00] need to, I need to complain about, [00:01:03] Christina: [00:01:03] okay. Let’s get into [00:01:04] Brett: [00:01:04] so it used to be back in the, in the dark ages of like, uh, three or four months ago, I used to have to call. [00:01:14] The nurse, the nurse would then call the doctor or email the doctor. The doctor would then mail me prescriptions. And I would wait until the, the clinic told me that my mail had arrived. I would go to the clinic, pick up the envelope and drive that to the pharmacy and then wait for them to fill it a few months back that changed. [00:01:36] And suddenly my doctor was able to, uh, electronically transfer this script. So I could just call the nurse, email the doctor, and then have the script there. Then, uh, she gave me a number to text her directly taking one more part of the chain out. So I could just text my doctor when I needed a refill. [00:02:00] She would electronically transfer this script and then I would go pick it up. [00:02:03] Things got so much easier. And then last week I texted on Tuesday that it was time for my refill and I didn’t hear back. So I texted again on Wednesday when I was completely out of pills. Didn’t hear back finally. Uh, no. Then I texted again on Thursday and then it was Friday morning when I was during the, the introductory introduction meditation to a yoga class. [00:02:30] I realized, Oh shit, I bet you, my doctor quit. And I missed the memo and now I’m, and then I spend the whole class thinking about how. Uh, how I, wasn’t going to have a doctor in Woodenville to get any of my meds. And it was not very meditative. [00:02:45] Christina: [00:02:45] I was going to say, that seems like the worst thing for realization for you to have during yoga, because you don’t want to have like an anxiety attack during your yoga [00:02:54] Brett: [00:02:54] Although it could also be the best time since I was working very hard on things like [00:03:00] breathing and centering myself. So maybe it, it like it was a wash, [00:03:05] Christina: [00:03:05] Yeah. Okay. I can see that. Okay. Anyway, [00:03:07] Brett: [00:03:07] Right after class, I call and I’m like, Hey, is my doctor still work for you? And they said, yes. And I said, okay, so she’s not responding to text messages. [00:03:18] And they put me into the voicemail of the nurse who then called me back a couple hours later to say that, yeah, uh, she she’ll email the doctor. We’re back to the old way of doing things, but the doctor hasn’t been responding to emails. And it’s Friday, which is her day off and Monday’s a holiday. So now I’m going o

Transcript Christina and Brett-1 [00:00:00]Brett: [00:00:00] Welcome to episode two Oh three of over-tired with Brett Terpstra. That’s me and Christina Warren. How’s it going, Christina? [00:00:08]Christina: [00:00:08] Well, I’ve been having a, I’ve been having some tech issues for the last, like 36 hours. So that’s definitely keeping me up and frustrated at night, but, uh, other than that pretty good. How about you Brett? [00:00:22]Brett: [00:00:22] Well, I’ve been having my own tech issues, but only for the last like two hours. So we’ll have w w we’ll set aside a section of the show. Because we’re going to start with some Taylor Swift stuff that I, I have a surprising amount to say about it, but I don’t want it to be the whole show. [00:00:41]Christina: [00:00:41] Yeah, no, let’s start with this. Cause, cause I sent you this. So, so give, give, give people the, the, the backstory, cause I texted you this, I did not know what your response was going to be and I still don’t. So. [00:00:51] Brett: [00:00:51] Um, okay. So on Wednesday I got a text from Christina that just said must watch for the pod. And it was a link to [00:01:00] a YouTube video titled I designed a Taylor Swift theme park with 60 plus attractions and it was a half hour long video. And I grown, I believe my response was good Lord. And. I, uh, I put off watching it until today until the day we were going to record them, like, Oh shit, I gotta, I gotta do my homework and watch this video. [00:01:25] And it ended up being a, a very soul searching experience for me because like my first reaction was. This guy is insane. Um, the, there should be like medical and everything engine here. And then over the course of watching it two more times, I realized that I have this very gen X, like I’m not allowed to like anything it’s against the rules for me to be excited about anything. [00:01:57] It is uncool. To like things [00:02:00] and that’s my whole generation. That’s where, that’s how we approach all new things. And I realized I don’t love that. I, I don’t, I don’t want that to be my legacy. So I’m going to look at this. Let’s pretend this guy is my kid. Let’s pretend I have a kid who’s displaying this amount of creativity, this amount of passion about something. [00:02:21] There’s no way I wouldn’t love it. And so I kind of, I watched it again with the kind of the perspective of. This kid is like crazy creative, super going like his attention to detail on this is, is it’s frightening, but it’s, it’s impressive. And ultimately, I came out with a bunch of notes about my favorite parts of it. [00:02:41] So what did you think Christina? [00:02:45]Christina: [00:02:45] I’m a millennial who was, was told that everything, um, that I feel in do is ballad and that I should be special. Um, even though, uh, I I’ve been telling my shrink since I was 19 years old, that I wanted to write a book called [00:03:00] you are not special. Um, uh, you know, a love letter to my generation. Um, I, uh, I obviously didn’t, I didn’t grow up with that whole perspective of like, you have to hate everything. [00:03:11] In fact, I think that I’m not the same extent that gen Z, which this kid is, uh, but you know, we, we tend to like things and embrace things a lot. So my, my take was, I was just like, this is so creative. This is so insane. I was with you when I first, when I saw it on Twitter, I was like, Oh, I’m going to watch this. [00:03:29] And then I saw it was like 30 minutes and I was like, God damn. I love Taylor Swift. I love what this does, but this is 30 minutes. This is going to be a lot, so found time to do it. And then I was like, okay, I’m, I’m here for all of this. This is genius. And I just to, I want somebody to like, make it in like the Sims or rollercoaster tycoon or, you know, something like that. [00:03:51]Brett: [00:03:51] Okay. So. It starts out with a, well, he goes through the whole, the entrance to the park and everything, but one of the [00:04:00] first things he talks about yeah. Is, uh, the bad blood Swiss cycle. Like it’s a ride where you’re actually on the motorcycles from bad blood. And that immediately, that’s a good idea. [00:04:12] That is like certain, certain Taylor songs

Transcript Brett and Christina [00:00:00] 02Brett: [00:00:00] welcome to episode 202 of Overtired with Christina Warren and Brett Terpstra how’s it going, Christina? [00:00:07] 01Christina: [00:00:07] going pretty good. How are you, Brett? [00:00:09] 02Brett: [00:00:09] I’m I’m good. I’m figuring out this, uh, uh, episode numbering thing. I think it’s kind of standard practice to like season episode, right? [00:00:18] 01Christina: [00:00:18] yeah, I think so. I think so, but it is weird cause we’re like, Almost officially, we’re not rebooting the show, but we’re rebooting the show. Like it’s still the same show. We’re just going to be consistent again. And so, because really, if we’re being like going by like TV seasons in like American TV, this would be like seasons six or something, [00:00:39]02Brett: [00:00:39] right. [00:00:40] 01Christina: [00:00:40] but [00:00:41] 02Brett: [00:00:41] If it was Netflix TV, we’d be on like season 20. [00:00:44] 01Christina: [00:00:44] Exactly. But you know what I do kind of feel like we’re like British TV. Cause we’re, we’re kind of like a like Sherlock or whatever. Like we come out, you know, like once a year or once every three years. [00:00:55]02Brett: [00:00:55] Yeah. A BBC special, [00:00:58] 01Christina: [00:00:58] Yeah. That’s exactly it. That’s exactly [00:01:00] it [00:01:00] 02Brett: [00:01:00] BBC mini series. [00:01:01] 01Christina: [00:01:01] that’s exactly it. Except now. Like I think that we’re going to be consistent again. So that’s really exciting. [00:01:06] 02Brett: [00:01:06] Yes, this is two weeks in a row. [00:01:08] 01Christina: [00:01:08] I know, [00:01:09] 02Brett: [00:01:09] When was the last time we did two weeks in a row. It’s been years. Yeah. This is great news. Um, and I’m sure that the people have been anxiously waiting to hear what I thought of folklore after a second listen. [00:01:24] 01Christina: [00:01:24] Yes. [00:01:25] 02Brett: [00:01:25] I feel like that should be the central crux of this episode. [00:01:28] We’re probably not going to spend as much time as a Taylor podcast should on it, but that said, I went back in with your kind of doctoral thesis in mind. Um, and I gave it a, another more serious listen and I did come to appreciate it. Uh, she does like the, I didn’t pay enough attention or as much attention as I should have to the lyrics on the first listen. [00:01:55] Cause I was so bored with the music. Like it’s not [00:02:00] my tempo. [00:02:01] 01Christina: [00:02:01] right. [00:02:02] 02Brett: [00:02:02] But the, the kind of the biting lines and the, the, um, axed is still there. And, and I can appreciate that. [00:02:13] 01Christina: [00:02:13] Yeah, no, I mean, I mean, Taylor says fucking out, like it’s kind of amazing and like, it, it, uh, yeah. Yeah. Okay. Well, okay. This, this for our Taylor Swift podcast makes me really relieved and. Yeah, I will. I will agree with you if you were somebody who was not into, you know, the, the more kind of low key kind of vibe, if you’d like the bangers, this is not that album as I, I’m not gonna repeat my doctoral thesis as you, as you framed it. [00:02:41] But I am glad that, that you were still able to find like the core tailors stuff that, that you could appreciate. I will be interested to see if at some point, if people try to do remixes or even if she does some point, because I really do feel like some of these songs could [00:03:00] be turned into like her traditional kind of like pop bangers. [00:03:04] If it just had a different instrumentation, different production. [00:03:09] 02Brett: [00:03:09] What she needs is to have cave play. Do a cover of like exile. Did you, did you, I didn’t send you, I promise to send you a list of K Flay tracks too. Like,

You’re downloading today’s show from CacheFly’s network BackBeat Media Podcast Network Transcript [00:00:00] **Brett:** [00:00:00] Alright, welcome to… we’ll call it season two of overtired with Brett Terpstra and Christina Warren. How’s it going, Christina? **Christina:** [00:00:10] It’s good ish being okay. It’s great to be talking to you. It’s great to finally be back with season two of overtired in general. I think that it would be disingenuous to say that the world is good. But right now, as we talk, like I’m genuinely thrilled to be talking to you again and to be doing this show again. **Brett:** [00:00:33] if we’re being honest, the world is kind of shitty, and this is a, a shining, a gem, a light in the dark for me. To finally be podcasting again with you. **Christina:** [00:00:45] 1000% in agreement, 1000% in agreement, it’s been over a year since we did one of these. For some reason, I thought that we’d recorded in October. No we’d recorded in October and then we recorded in June. And then now [00:01:00] it’s August. I don’t even know what month it is because a pandemic time **Brett:** [00:01:05] It’s March. **Christina:** [00:01:07] it’s honestly, in my brain, it’s still is. **Brett:** [00:01:10] week, 100 of March. yeah, June 19th. Uh, just so everyone knows there’s a new home for overtired on the web. If you go to overtired pod.com, we’re still, uh, the misspelled version of overtired OVR, T R D on Twitter. So we’re, we’re working to rebuild our audience. Uh, maybe make it even bigger. We’re going to start, uh, broadcasting weekly, again, podcasting weekly again. Uh, and the hopes of, uh, building a real show out of this once again. **Christina:** [00:01:46] Yeah. Yeah. We’re actually going to be kind of taking this seriously again, like we were in olden days and I’m super excited. I was, when you reached out to me, you were like, you want to start doing this regularly? I was like, yes, [00:02:00] God. Yes. Because again, to your point, there’s. I’ve missed this. This has been one of the few kind of like shining beacons of light in an otherwise kind of terrible universe. **Brett:** [00:02:12] So you had a birthday since our last episode, right? **Christina:** [00:02:15] I did. I did. And **Brett:** [00:02:17] have to, it’s been over a year. Of course. You’ve had a **Christina:** [00:02:19] over a year, so of course I’ve had a birthday. No, but it’s, it’s funny because. Um, obviously, uh, yeah, I’ve had a birthday. You’ve had a birthday, but my birthday, which is in November, I was actually in Paris. And it’s so bizarre to think about because I had a few international trips. Yeah. The beginning of this year, before the COVID stuff went into. Super hyper overdrive. In fact, I, I can’t say bunch of international trips. I was supposed to, I had to still go to Singapore because I had to fly through there, but I was supposed to actually do an event there that was canceled. This was in mid, mid February. I was supposed to be in Zurich that got canceled. Literally, as I was leaving for the airport, I was supposed to [00:03:00] be in Tel Aviv. I was supposed to be, um, some other places. So. It’s weird. I was in, um, Australia in February, but I was in Johannesburg in January, but the last trip, I guess, that felt like completely normal in terms of, you know, nothing being in the least bit, even in the back of your mind, like weird was in November when I was in Paris for my birthday, I was there for work, but it happened to too. Follow my birthday. And so, uh, it’s really, it’s bizarre to kind of look back on that, uh, you know, like a little more than six months later and to be like, the whole universe is completely different than it was then. **Brett:** [00:03:45] Yeah, I have my birthday in the middle of a pandemic, so I can’t imagine right now being in Paris for my birthday. **Christina:** [00:03:55] Right. So how, what, how, how did a, well, first of all, happy birthday and [00:04:00] how did the, the, the pandemic birthday go. **Brett:** [00:04:03] happy birthday to you too. But, uh, so this was my 42nd birthday and I have planned for years to have a hitchhikers guide themed party for my 42nd birthday. **Christina:** [00:04:18] As one does. **Brett:** [00:04:19] and that did not happen. Um, I had a, I had a solo
