PLAY PODCASTS

Copyright & Takedown

Last updated: 5 May 2026

Play Podcasts respects intellectual property rights and expects its users to do the same. This page explains how to ask us to remove content that you believe infringes your rights, and what we'll do when we receive such a request. Play Podcasts is operated by Digital Platforms Ltd, a company registered in England & Wales (company number 17087275).

What we publish — and what we do not

Play Podcasts is a podcast directory. We index publicly available podcast RSS feeds and present the metadata that the podcast owner themselves has chosen to publish in those feeds: titles, descriptions, artwork, episode lists, and the URLs at which the audio is hosted. When you press play on an episode, your browser streams the audio directly from the publisher's server. We do not store or re-host audio files.

When a publisher updates, deactivates, or removes their RSS feed, those changes propagate to our directory on the next crawl, normally within 24 hours.

If you are a podcast owner

The fastest way to have your show removed or its details updated is to make the change in your own podcast feed and let us re-crawl. If you would like us to remove your show immediately, or if your show is listed despite no longer being public, please contact us using the procedure below or via our contact form. We will action verified owner requests within five working days, and usually faster.

How to send a copyright notice

If you are a copyright owner (or authorised to act on behalf of one) and you believe that material on Play Podcasts infringes your copyright, please send us a written notice via the contact form(mark it "Copyright notice") or by post to:

Designated Agent for Copyright Claims
Digital Platforms Ltd
3rd Floor, 86–90 Paul Street
London, England, EC2A 4NE
United Kingdom

Your notice must include all of the following:

  1. an electronic or physical signature of the person authorised to act on behalf of the copyright owner;
  2. a description of the copyrighted work that you claim has been infringed;
  3. the URL on Play Podcasts where the allegedly infringing material is located, specific enough for us to find it;
  4. your full name, postal address, telephone number, and email address;
  5. a statement, made in good faith, that you believe the use of the material is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law;
  6. a statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act on behalf of the owner.

Notices that do not include all of the above will be returned for completion. We cannot act on notices that fail to identify the allegedly infringing material specifically, or that are sent by someone other than the rights-holder or their authorised agent.

What happens after we receive a valid notice

  1. We acknowledge receipt of the notice, normally within two working days.
  2. We remove or restrict access to the material identified in the notice while we investigate.
  3. We notify the affected publisher (where we have their contact details from their feed) and provide them with a copy of the notice.
  4. If the publisher submits a valid counter-notice, we may restore the material, normally between 10 and 14 working days after we receive the counter-notice, unless the original complainant informs us that they have filed a court action.

Counter-notices

If material relating to your podcast has been removed and you believe this was done in error or as a result of misidentification, you may submit a counter-notice through the contact form. Your counter-notice must include:

  1. your physical or electronic signature;
  2. identification of the material that has been removed and the location at which it appeared before it was removed;
  3. a statement, made under penalty of perjury, that you have a good faith belief that the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification;
  4. your name, postal address, and telephone number, together with a statement consenting to the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales (or, if you are outside the UK, the courts of the jurisdiction in which we are established) and that you accept service of process from the original complainant.

Repeat infringers

We will, in appropriate circumstances, suspend or permanently remove podcasts whose owners we determine to be repeat infringers of others' copyright.

Misuse of this procedure

Submitting a knowingly false or misleading copyright notice can expose you to liability for damages and legal costs. Please make sure you are the rights-holder, or authorised to act on the rights-holder's behalf, before sending a notice.

Other concerns

For requests that are not strictly copyright matters — for example, factual corrections, removal of a show that is no longer public, or reports of harmful content — please use the general contact form instead.
