Ep 803ICE, federal agencies announce 24 arrests during Charlotte operation
U.S. Immigration and Customers Enforcement (ICE) and other law enforcement agencies arrested 24 people who were in the country illegally during a Charlotte operation, officials announced Tuesday. In a news release, ICE said the operation ran from March 1-8. Charges for those who were arrested include 13 aggravated felonies or other violent offenses, three illegal weapons offenses and one assault on a federal officer. Two of the suspects are affiliated with the MS-13 gang, ICE said. ICE didn't release the names of any of the people who were arrested. ICE claims that six of the suspects had active immigration detainers that weren't honored by the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office. The agency said there are 18 additional suspects still at large who also had detainers that weren't honored. Investigators dropped the charges against a Monroe woman accused of locking her boyfriend in a storage unit for days after the man admitted he gave police conflicting information about the incident. Robin Deaton was charged with first-degree kidnapping and attempted first-degree murder after detectives said she locked her boyfriend in a storage unit on Feb. 20. The man was left there for almost four days, according to an arrest warrant. Those charges were dismissed on March 6, according to documents obtained by WCNC Charlotte. Four people were shot during a party at an apartment complex in Rock Hill on Saturday night, police said. Rock Hill Police were called to the Villas apartments along Celanese Road around 9:15 p.m. When officers arrived, they found four people who had been shot. All four victims were taken to the hospital for treatment.Detectives said the preliminary investigation found the victims, along with several other people, were at a social gathering in the apartment when the shooting began. A death investigation is underway after a body was found in southwest Charlotte on Thursday morning, police said. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said the victim was found along Nations Ford Road a little after 9 a.m. CMPD confirmed officers discovered an unresponsive person in the area of Nations Ford Elementary School. The victim was taken to the hospital by Medic and pronounced dead. CMPD hasn't released any further details about the case and it's unclear if detectives are looking for any suspects. A CMS spokesperson said no schools were placed on lockdown due to the investigation and forwarded all inquiries about the incident to CMPD. There were no survivors after a collision between an American Airlines passenger jet and an Army helicopter at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport near Washington, D.C. late Wednesday night.The plane was carrying 60 passengers and four Charlotte, North Carolina-based crew members. Three soldiers were on board the helicopter. All 67 are believed to have been killed as first responders moved from a rescue effort to a recovery effort Thursday morning.
