Several factors, including strong winds and drought conditions, are contributing to the spread of fires, including the ongoing Carolina Forest fire in South Carolina. Across that state, a burn ban is in effect and the governor has issued a state of emergency.
In North Carolina, firefighters are battling wildfires including one near Tryon and another in Uwharrie National Forest. Officials have produced a county-by-county list of where the fire danger remains the highest.
