A death investigation is underway after a body was found in southwest Charlotte on Thursday morning, police said.  

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said the victim was found along Nations Ford Road a little after 9 a.m. CMPD confirmed officers discovered an unresponsive person in the area of Nations Ford Elementary School. The victim was taken to the hospital by Medic and pronounced dead.  

CMPD hasn't released any further details about the case and it's unclear if detectives are looking for any suspects. A CMS spokesperson said no schools were placed on lockdown due to the investigation and forwarded all inquiries about the incident to CMPD.  

WCNC Charlotte's crew at the scene saw police tape surrounding a playground near the school. A CMS spokesperson said the playground isn't part of the Nations Ford Elementary campus. Students don't use the playground for recess.
