Ep 969Tentative shutdown deal brings hope, but Charlotte travelers still bracing for turbulence

After more than a month of a partial government shutdown, there’s finally movement in Washington. Lawmakers have reached a bipartisan agreement that would fund the government at its current rate through Jan. 30, and fully fund SNAP benefits through next September. While that’s a promising sign for federal workers and programs, travelers are still feeling the frustration at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. As of Monday morning, there was a significant drop in delays and cancellations from the hundreds of disruptions over the weekend, but still a sign of lingering impacts. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) continues to reduce flight schedules nationwide, cutting up to 10% of flights as air traffic controllers approach their sixth week without pay.Read more: https://www.wcnc.com/article/travel/tentative-shutdown-deal-charlotte-travelers-impacts/275-e468289a-01f8-445c-9c94-3d61e2648eb4WCNC Charlotte To Go is a daily news and weather podcast you can listen to so you can start your day with news that impacts you from the team at WCNC Charlotte. Charlotte Douglas International Airport is expected to cut flights by 10% after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and announced it would reduce air traffic at 40 of the country's busiest airports due to the federal government shutdown. The shutdown, which is now in its 38th day, is the longest in U.S. history. On Wednesday, FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford cited growing fatigue among air traffic controllers who have worked without pay since the shutdown began Oct. 1. “I’m not aware in my 35-year history in the aviation market where we’ve had a situation where we’re taking these kinds of measures,” Bedford said Wednesday. “We’re in new territory in terms of government shutdowns.”Read more: https://www.wcnc.com/article/travel/charlotte-douglas-international-airport-potential-flight-cuts-federal-government-shutdown-impacts/275-f3af7f0e-b576-48ef-b88b-c5912616f4f2WCNC Charlotte To Go is a daily news and weather podcast you can listen to so you can start your day with news that impacts you from the team at WCNC Charlotte.
