Ep 840Organization representing hundreds of CMPD officers considers 'no confidence' vote against chief

Just days after the City of Charlotte agreed on a potential settlement with the chief of police, the organization that represents more than 1,700 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers is considering taking a vote of no confidence against Chief Johnny Jennings. The city's reported closed-door settlement came in response to a war former Council member Tariq Bokhari waged against the chief over his initial refusal to let patrol officers wear outer carrier vests. As WCNC Charlotte reported Wednesday night, that war included strongly worded text messages to the chief from Bokhari that said he'd push for his termination and cripple his legacy. The Fraternal Order of Police sent an email to its members to survey their thoughts, asking them whether they support moving forward with a symbolic vote of no confidence against the chief. The survey also gives them the option to share additional information supporting their response. Simply put, the survey is a preliminary vote to better understand the full membership's thoughts on the issue before formally taking action.Read more: https://www.wcnc.com/article/news/politics/fraternal-order-of-police-moving-forward-no-confidence-vote-cmpd-chief-johnny-jennings/275-a75f7333-83a6-4db3-954f-4c8ff2c3f7ddWCNC Charlotte To Go is a daily news and weather podcast you can listen to so you can start your day with news that impacts you from the team at WCNC Charlotte. Ep 839Charlotte leaders deny corruption allegations, won't discuss reported settlement with CMPD chief

Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles and several city council members held a news conference Wednesday to forcefully reject allegations of "unethical, immoral, and illegal activities" made by Council member Victoria Watlington. Those allegations came after a reported settlement with CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings that was reached during a closed-door session on Monday. "These allegations are unfounded," Lyles stated at the beginning of the conference. "If she has any proof, she needs to provide that to the city attorney's office who is duty-bound to investigate."The council's private talks involving public dollars follow former Council member Tariq Bokhari's public and private war against the police chief. Lyles said Wednesday Bokhari's intent was to damage the chief's reputation and end his career.Read more: https://www.wcnc.com/article/news/politics/charlotte-city-leaders-rebuke-council-members-allegations-of-illegal-activities-cmpd-chief-reported-settlement/275-374958da-0b64-4c9d-aad8-2bba999ffafbWCNC Charlotte To Go is a daily news and weather podcast you can listen to so you can start your day with news that impacts you from the team at WCNC Charlotte. Ep 824New bills could halt Silfab Solar project in Fort Mill

Construction of the controversial Silfab solar plant in Fort Mill could face serious delays under two new bills advancing in the South Carolina legislature. House Bill 4293 and Senate Bill 530 would give local zoning officials the power to immediately halt any construction project if they determine it doesn’t comply with zoning rules — even if permits were already issued and work is underway. That means if York County were to rule that Silfab’s planned solar panel factory isn’t properly zoned, the company’s permits would be instantly voided. Construction would have to stop immediately — and couldn’t resume unless Silfab either fixed the zoning issue or got a judge to allow work to continue during legal appeals, which would be good news for those who want the project stopped.MORE NEWS: wcnc.com WCNC Charlotte To Go is a daily news and weather podcast you can listen to so you can start your day with news that impacts you from the team at WCNC Charlotte.
