Unlocking Your Inner Strength
301 episodes — Page 5 of 7
Ep 3132 Year Anniversary of Standing Tall
On May 20th, we had our 2 year anniversary of opening up successfully in the midst of Covid, against the Governor's wishes. It came out better than anyone could have anticipated. We lived by our principles and values in that moment and it paid off. When you lead with the goodness of your heart, you can never go wrong. Here is a recap of that story, two years later.
Ep 312Survival Fitness For You
I went for a 2 mile run this weekend. Last year, I dabbled a bit more with running and I am glad I did. While I don't have any aspirations at this moment for doing any competitive running, my run this past weekend made me think about standards for training. In today's episode, I cover things that I think you should be able to do and/or work towards when survival is the name of the game. Using survival as a frame of reference puts fitness and strength into perspective. Take a listen and enjoy!
Ep 311My BIG Announcement
15 years ago, I began Newell Strength. It was and is my passion. It is also my profession, that of being a Coach. Heading into this year, I developed a strategy, along with Devon, to get it to where I know it can be. I knew that ultimately, it all falls on me, I take responsibility and ownership. In today's episode, I share with you why now, my role and what this means for Newell Strength.
Ep 310My Experiments with Cycle Dieting
I first began experimenting with cheat days and re-feeds way back in the year 2002. There was hardly any resources back then regarding this topic. After a college department head had no answers for me, I realized that I was on my own and that I'd have to figure out for myself how the human body really worked when it came to trying to pack on muscle or drop serious body fat. In this episode of Unlocking Your Inner Strength, I go into things such as super-compensation, unreal appetites and food hangovers.
Ep 3096 Fitness Myths Exposed
When I first began training, way back in high school, I quickly realized that what I was doing in the gym and with my nutrition was much different than what the norm was. Maybe it's because I was willing to do things outside the box, but I soon found out that I was on the correct path and using something I call 'reality math' has always allowed me to stay about 5 years ahead of the curve. Sorry if that sounds braggadocious, but it's true. In today's episode, I breakdown 6 myths that, once known, will probably save you a lot of time and frustration.
Ep 308Why I Decided to Explore the World of Fasting Yet Again
3 years ago, I dove into longer form fasting, after doing a 16-20 hour fast for the prior 5 years. But just like 2019, I knew there was something more to be learned and explored, which is the feeling I've been hearing God whisper into my ear quite frequently. That's part of the inspiration that some people have heard me talk about when I talk about developing Indigo Panda. Anyhow, I am diving back into my 72's, which I still was doing every few months, some dry fasting, and some other fasting experiments I am kicking around right now. For me, it's mainly a spiritual quest this time around.
Ep 307The Mindset of a Champion with IFBB Pro, Tim Martin
Have you ever had one of those moments in life when your mind expands on the spot. And you're conscious of it? If you're aware of your thoughts, and this happens to you, you remember it forever. For me, one of those moments was when I had the chance to compete against Tim Martin back in 2007 and later become friends with him. Tim expanded my mind into what was possible physically. In this episode of Unlocking Your Inner Strength, I am fortunate enough to get an inside peak into a champion's mindset. It's worth gold, take a listen….
Ep 305Discover How Mind Map Was Created
I was fortunate enough to interview my longtime mentor and the creator of Mind Map, Dax Moy, a few weeks ago. If you've ever wondered about the origins of Mind Map or what the thought process was behind it, then you are going to want to take a listen. In this episode of Unlocking Your Inner Strength, Dax shares some knowledge about the NEED for creating Mind Mapping, what Bio Map and Body Map are and how the brain and nervous system are always trying to tell us something. When we just continue to use the same approach of grind, go harder, push through, then we will lose that battle every time. Take a listen and enjoy!
Ep 305How to be a Man in These Present Times
My Definition of a Real Man Last year, about this same time, I was giving a lot of deep thought to what it means to be a man. Where was I falling short and where do I continue to fall short? Maybe it's natural to have thoughts of this magnitude when the seasons change. Check that, I believe it's imperative to have thoughts like this when the seasons change. Real men are tough and stern. Real men don't play the victim. Real men are in shape. The list goes on.
Ep 304How to Lose Fat in Your 40's and Beyond
When you were younger, you were probably able to get away with a lot more at the table and your eating habits and not pay a price for it. Although, that doesn't mean you were necessarily healthy. As we age, we need to take into account a few other factors and there's a better approach than just cutting calories.
Ep 303How to Train With an Injury
Going back to the early 2000's, when I began competing in bodybuilding, I learned how to train with injuries. Over the years, I've become known as an expert and how to train with and help injuries heal faster. The absolute worst thing that you can when you get an injury is to stop training. Yes, you read that correctly. If you want to know why and what to do, take a listen to today's episode.
Ep 302Mount Washington: Discover What You're Made of
The Hardest Thing I've Ever Done Ten days ago, we were up in New Hampshire attempting to climb Mt. Washington. Last year, I didn't make it. This year, I was inspired to give it my best. We made it, it was unreal. I had to use every tool I had in mind, body and spirit. No stone was left unturned. In today's episode, I break it all down.
Ep 301How to Have the Healthiest Heart Around
A week ago, we had our 4th installment in our seminar series with Dr. Andrey Espinoza about how to have the healthiest heart around. Lucky for you, I recorded an episode for you on my portion of the talk. If you want to know: How much sodium you need and why keeping salt low is one of the most harmful pieces of health advice ever given Why sleep is the king when it comes to health and the simplest way to begin with better sleep hygiene The difference in metabolism between fasting and the standard North American Diets What happens with the master hormone Insulin and why its the key factor in dramatically changing your health Two radically different ways to look at food and body fat And much more…
Panda Fasting is a Secret Weapon
Ever since I can remember, I knew that a big part of helping people transform their lives was a combination of things, one of which was teaching them so they understood on some level why they were doing what they were doing. Fasting is no different. I can't tell you how often I hear that 'I fast, I do the 8 hour window'. Which is fine and dandy, that's what I did for a number of years, before I really understood the power of fasting. In today's episode, I break down how fasting actually works and how it can and should have a compounding effect on your health and wellness. (If you'd really like to master the practice of fasting, see below for the upcoming Panda Challenge).
Ep 299Discover How Panda Was Created
A little over two years ago, I was quarantined in our room with one of the worst cases of flu ever seen. It didn't kill me, but Devon thought it might. It was the real deal. Anyhow, I had an idea and my notebook. The idea was the concept of the Panda Diet, something I had been brainstorming for a few months. I had nothing else to do and no energy to move, so I began to write and map out the Panda Diet. It was literally created while I was down and out with the flu. In today's episode, I talk about the creation of Panda, the history and the process.

Ep 298The Conspiracy Against Fasting
Last week, one of my brothers, Presh, was asking if I thought there was censorship around fasting just like how they censor so many other things these days. Afterall, fasting does change the health for the positive dramatically in those that try it. While I don't think there's censorship around fasting, I do believe the current way of eating has been systematically installed over the past century to make a society of unhealthy, mind numbed, zombies. I touch on this here and there from time to time, but in this episode of Unlocking Your Inner Strength, I devote my full attention to it.
Ep 297The Cactus and the Camel of Fasting
Before you know it, the warm weather will be here. Which means that a lot of people will be thinking about their eating a bit more. It's natural in the winter to ease up and eat more 'rich' foods. This is part of the human hibernation theory that I believe to be true. Anyhow, in today's episode, I discuss why we are like Cacti living in a forest. And to take it one step further, you are more like a camel than you think. Once you connect these dots, fasting will make a lot more sense to you.
Ep 296How to Get High Naturally
I have been on point with my weekly, long breathing session and it certainly does make me 'high'. Yes, it seems like a nuisance at times to stay on point with. But well worth it. And in about a month, we are once again heading to Mt. Washington to attempt to summit the highest point on the east coast. Last year, my brain was shot by the time I crossed the tree line because the 80 degree climb at one point got to me mentally. Yet, I felt more alive than I can recall in any recent time. Perhaps that's why I got a motorcycle this year too. Mortality. Life can't exist without death. No, I do not have a death wish, but I do know that putting myself in situations where I realize how fragile my life is helps new neural pathways open up in my brain, making me feel high, more alive.
Ep 2954 Problems That Fasting Will Fix
I began my fasting journey 8 years ago. 8 years of honing my craft and I feel like I am just beginning to scratch the surface. In today's episode of Unlocking Your Inner Strength, I drop some knowledge on the 5 Problems That Fasting Will Fix and not all of them have to do with what you're eating. But you'll have to take a listen to find out what they are. You'll get more out of 'it' if you take the time to invest 12 minutes. If you're not willing to do that, then you're out of luck and quite possibly might remain stuck in nutritional purgatory:).

Ep 29410 More Years of Newell Strength
2012 was a pivotal year for Newell Strength. In this week's episode of Unlocking Your Inner Strength, I reminisce about the past decade. If you listened to last week's episode, you'll get a feel for the start-up days and the hustle of those first 5 years. In 2012, I made it my commitment to go all in and walk away from my cushy teaching career. Hopefully something in here can spark some inspiration or at the very least, give you some insight into the brand that Newell Strength has become.

Ep 293The Original Newell Strength
A couple of weeks ago, Suga Shane sent me a podcast to listen to. The podcast? One of my very own, where I discussed the origins of Newell Strength. Which gave me the idea to create another episode on that very topic as each year I get further away from the origins I am sure I will have new insights to share and memories that you may not be aware of. In today's episode, I share the story of how 15 years ago, right about this time, I took the seed and began to put all my efforts into it. You'll see why perseverance pays off and why simply beginning is really the only way to achieve anything.

Ep 292What Does it Mean for You to Be a Leader?
Leading is not easy. But it's necessary. Some people are born leaders. Some become leaders. Some are born and become great leaders. So, what does it mean to lead? In today's episode, I break down leadership and decision making.

Ep 291Waiting and Settling Is Equal to Fear
As I continue to break down the 50th Law and lessons on being fear-less, it should become more and more apparent that unless you learn how to deal with fear, you will always live life at way less than your potential. Coming into the New Year, you will think about what you want to achieve this year or why this year is going to be different. It will only be different once you think differently (about fear specifically).

Ep 290Try This To Be Unbeatable This Cold and Flu Season
When most people get sick, their only go-to is medication for symptom relief. I get it, I've been there. But what if you could have some 'out of the box' supplements that would prevent you from getting sick in the first place? Yes, this may be controversial because of the Lame Stream Media, but I am not one to shy away from controversy.

Ep 289Finding Your Voice
How Does a Week Without Worry Sound? Two weeks ago, I told Devon that I was making a commitment to not have any worries for a week. Yes, those thoughts were certainly going to pop up, the task was going to be to shift my attention as soon as I felt them. Afterall, the grass is always greener where you put your focus. In today's episode, I share the next batch of lessons about being fear-LESS.

Ep 288A 3 To 1 Advantage
Napolean, one of, if not the greatest army generals in history had a philosophy on mental to physical. The moral was to the physical a 3 to 1 advantage. Meaning, your mind and attitude are far more powerful than your physical resources. We see this in great talent that never seem to achieve their full potential. However, once understood and applied, it can be your biggest advantage. In today's lesson, I pick out 7 key points from the next installment of the 50th Law and being fear-LESS.

Ep 288A 3 To 1 Advantage
Napolean, one of, if not the greatest army generals in history had a philosophy on mental to physical. The moral was to the physical a 3 to 1 advantage. Ep 287Developing Your Vision
In today's episode, I continue to unpack the book, The 50th Law. Realize in life that you are alone. Realize that no one is coming to your rescue. And know that being free from what others think you should be, is the ultimate freedom.

Ep 286What Are Your Principles?
Do you know what your principles in life are? It's okay if you don't know, most are never asked this question. In today's episode, I take a detour from the lessons of fear to give you the framework for developing your philosophy of life. For an example, you can download my free '33 Principles to Win at Life' manual to get your brain going on this concept. You can get it here: www.newellstrength.com/manual

Ep 285The Source of All Knowledge
In today's episode of ULYIS, I present to you another in my series of 'The 50th Law'. All about fear and how to handle it. You'll have to listen to find out the source of all knowledge, but know that you have to empty your cup constantly if you are going to access it. Enjoy the listen!

Ep 284Listen to Learn Lessons About Fearing Nothing
Over ten years ago, I first read the book, the 50th Law. It is one of my top 5 all-time books. In today's episode, I go over some lessons that I pull right from the book and share with you my insights and experience with these principles. Who couldn't use a little more fearlessness in their life?

Ep 283Step Into Your Greatness
Two weekends ago, Suzy and I went on a road trip. But it wasn't just a road trip, it was a journey. A journey in which Suzy had a big break through with her faith. A journey in which I witnessed here metamorph from a caterpillar to a butterfly. This episode is me, witnessing a beautiful transformation. Enjoy!

Ep 282Life Lessons from Jiu-Jitsu
Life Lessons from Jiu-Jitsu It's hard for me to believe that I have already been going to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for 4 years already. I remember the nervous, excited energy when I made that decision. I felt like a fish out of water for the first 3 months, at least! I figured it would be timely to reflect on some life lessons from BJJ that I feel might benefit you in some way. It does not matter if you know anything about jiu-jitsu or not, the lessons will be applicable.

Ep 281Your Relationship Masterclass
I am fortunate enough to study some pretty interesting things. Things that may have never been studied in conjunction with one another. And that means, making connections that no one has ever made, at least not through the same route. If you really stop to think about it, you do the same things or have the potential to do the same thing. We each have our own unique 'stack', something I've talked about many times before and something I open the show with.

Ep 2803 Things You Need to Know About Your Brain
Sometimes, seemingly intelligent people do things that make zero sense according to logic. You see that in fitness and nutrition all the time. Heck, you even see it with everything going on in the world today. I know that if you listen to today's episode of my podcast, you'll connect some dots and become more powerful because of it.

Ep 279Cardio is Useless for Fat Loss
Way back in 2003, when I was first interning with Rutgers Football strength and conditioning, I realized that what I had been taught in college regarding weight loss was completely wrong. Nearly all of it. How so? Well, a good percentage of the football guys were shredded and muscular, despite no long distance cardio nor watching their calories. They were in their hormonal prime, having intense workouts (remember intensity is relative to the person) and eating as much food as they could get down. And shredded. Not that we have to be shredded (trust me, it's overrated in my humble but accurate opinion). In today's episode I explain the nuances of cardio for weight loss and hopefully it will shed some light on you as to what your workouts should be doing for you.

Ep 278Lessons Learned From Ten Days Without Food
Lessons Learned From Ten Days Without Food It's hard for me to believe that it has already come and gone, but my 10 day long experiment without food is behind me. In this final podcast about my journey, I go over the main lessons I learned regarding my detox and how it applies to you. Two of the things I talk about are knowing your why and your what. Ep 277Fake Fitness Experts Don't Really Understand Nutrition
On September 7th, I began a ten day long trek with something known as the Master Cleanse. Funny thing is, my energy was superb, even though I didn't eat food for ten days. In this episode of ULYIS, my energy hits a new high as I break down common eating myths including: >Fake Fitness Experts that say One Meal Per day is Wrong >The fallacy of caloric deficits >The beauty of dynamic energy >Transmuting your energy >Why the internal environment of your body determines how your body will change Enjoy and don't for get to subscribe!

Ep 27610 Days Without Food
I do believe a big part of my destiny is in helping to figure out how to help people eat right through fasting, detox and natural foods to attain purity of health. In fact, it's one of the things I pray for guidance with before each meal. With that in mind, I know that I must first test the theories on myself. This serves two purposes; one, to see how it works and to have first hand experience. And two, it's like Roger Bannister running the 4 minute mile, at first, people thought it was impossible and after he did it, multitudes of people did it that very same year. How? Their beliefs in what was possible were altered. Now, I am not saying that I am Roger Bannister, but once someone goes first, the path becomes a little easier for everyone else following, just as I've seen with the Panda program. In today's episode, I talk about my current 110-day journey without caffeine and the current detox protocol I am doing which sounds crazy, but only time will tell.

Ep 275Physical Training Principles for Dads
Yes, the human body is the human body, so there are those out there that don't delineate men and women's training. But I feel that it is important to examine the principles of training, so you can decipher what to focus on in a workout as a busy dad. In this episode of ULYIS, I discuss some in depth principles, but don't worry, I keep it simple.

Ep 274How Can We Live in Two Different Realities?
How Can We Live in Two Different Realities? A part of what is so great about road trips is that you can have deeper conversations than you would have if you were just passing by each other during a busy week. I had some great conversations with my bros a few weeks ago that I will recount in today's episode. It's too important not to share and it's all about creating reality on your terms. The simplicity of this will leave you shocked.

Ep 273The Amazing Benefits of Fasting For Your Brain
In ancient Greece, the great thinkers would often fast, not for weight loss but more for higher level thought. Fasting does a whole bunch of cool things for your brain though certain hormones. And, it's all based in the science of survival. Even if you don't have to lose weight, consider the other powers of fasting such as these. Enjoy!

Ep 272Your Inner Creates Your Outer
Your Inner Creates Your Outer One of the reasons that I fell in love with Mind Mapping was because of the power to know yourself on a deeper level. Think about it, we have a mind, a brain; one of the most powerful things in the known galaxy, yet many of us don't acknowledge just how powerful it is. In today's episode, I cover some key questions that'll be useful right away as long as you put them to use. And more. Enjoy! P.S-If you'd like to get a copy of my free fasting manual, infused with Mind Map principles, then go to: www.kylenewell.com/manual.

Ep 271Looking Through Calorie Colored Glasses
Intermittent Fasting: Fad or Fact? That is the title of the newspaper article that prodded me to record this episode. It does seem that fasting is gaining more traction but I do contest that it will never become mainstream for multiple reasons. In this episode: -Why fasting is not a fad diet -Why looking at everything within the frame of calories is absolutely wrong -The simplicity of fasting -No, it's not similar to cutting calories -Don't trust a so called expert that has never tried longer fasting And more. Enjoy! P.S-If you'd like to get a copy of my free fasting manual, infused with Mind Map principles, then go to: www.kylenewell.com/manual.

Ep 270Narrow Your Life Down to this Moment
At this moment, you have no worries. All of the turmoil and muddy waters in your mind are of a different time, be it past or future. In this episode, I explain some level 2 Mind Map concepts for you that I think you'll be able to put to use straight away, including: -What the anxiety gap is and how it can benefit you -Why fear is just a projection -The only point on the timeline that anger can arise from -The difference between a problem and a predicament -Why knocking down the feeling of 'heightened inner importance' is a must if you want to create life on your terms And more. Enjoy! P.S-If you'd like to get a copy of my free fasting manual, infused with Mind Map principles, then go to: www.kylenewell.com/manual.

Ep 269You Must Align Mind, Body and Spirit for Weight Loss
Aligning Mind, Body and Spirit for Weight Loss The hardest part for most people is finding the right way of eating that works physiologically. For most, they never get past this stage. However, if you are fortunate enough to get past this stage, you must make sure your mind and spirit align with the path, or your transformation will forever allude you. In this episode, I talk about the 3 phases and Enjoy the episode! P.S-If you'd like to get a copy of my free fasting manual, infused with Mind Map principles, then go to: www.kylenewell.com/manual.

Ep 268I Had a Dream About Bigfoot
The other night, I had a dream about Bigfoot. And I tell you this, so that you can understand that embracing your uniqueness and weirdness is a great thing. It is where life becomes rich and colorful. If, on the other hand, you just want to fit in, then you will always have to suppress your uniqueness. You can't have it both ways. Enjoy the episode! P.S-If you'd like to get a copy of my free fasting manual, infused with Mind Map principles, then go to: www.kylenewell.com/manual.

Ep 267A Few Lessons From Pulling Weeds
Two weekends ago, I spent a few hours pulling weeds. This is something I would have despised doing just a few years ago. Now, I relish connecting with my hands this way. Plus, there were many lessons popping into my head as I was pulling.

Ep 266The Inside Out Approach to Life
I am fresh off vacation and had a few thoughts about life I wanted to share in this episode. Your life is a manifestation of what is going on on the inside. Your thoughts become words which become actions which become physical reality. However, most people start with the outside and hope it affects their inside. Do the opposite of what the majority of people do in life and you will be on the right track. Enjoy the episode! If you'd like a FREE copy of my updated Intermittent Fasting Manual with Mind Map principles, go to www.kylenewell.com/manual

Ep 265Here's My Philosophy on Training
It's been a while since I've done an episode on training, so it's about time. In this episode, I explain my philosophies on training, including: -Aerobics: the misapplication of, the importance of and fat loss -Been There and Done That -Biofeedback -Stretching -Volume -Pace And some more golden nuggets. Let me know what you think. Enjoy! If you'd like a FREE copy of my updated Intermittent Fasting Manual with Mind Map principles, go to www.kylenewell.com/manual
