Episode 56: Diet Culture and Confident Eating

I've worked with 100‘s of women and had 1000's of conversations, and a lot think they are not dieting. But when we dig into their relationship with food, they realise that they are pursuing “wellness” or “health” in a way that looks very much like a diet. Basically diet culture erodes trust. In the search for the “right” way we have stopped listening to our bodies. We aren’t confident eaters. In today's episode I talk about diet culture, how it has affected our relationship to food, what confident eaters may do, and what the "work" to become a confident eater looks like. Episode 42: How to Recover Well from Training Part 1/3

How you recover is just as important as when and how you train A lot of women over-train and undernourish. They don’t rest enough, and certainly don’t have a recovery protocol to support their training I see a lot of red umbrellas that aren’t working right, and then training on top of this. This often leads to fatigue, injuries, delayed recovery, irregular cycles and weight gain This episode today is for women who train and want to learn how to fuel their training, and recover better Recovery and rest aren’t the same thing Rest is passive. I can have a “rest day”, a day I don’t train. Maybe I walk. Of course it’s important in supporting our red umbrella. And we need more of it. But we need more when it comes to our training. We need a protocol. Recovery is active. There are steps I take to make sure I am adapting to, and recovering from my training. I have a recovery protocol. How do we recover well? In Part 1 of this 3-part series we look at how to use food to fuel your training and support your recovery! Episode 41: How to Train with Your Cycle After 40

In today's episode we talk all things perimenopause, menopause, hormones and training. I talk about how it's harder to use your cycle prong as a tool for your training when you are in perimenopause, and why! We talk science and hormonal changes, the types of training you should be doing to help you get the results you want in your training and what NOT to do! I give you three things to do today to support your training. Here is the graph showing the hormonal changes during each phase of our cycle's life! https://www.larabriden.com/real-reason-stress-hits-hard-in-your-40s-adrenal/ You can connect with me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/amykatebowe/ Website: http://www.amykatebowe.com/ Email: [email protected] Music: Sorrow by Sappheiros https://soundcloud.com/sappheirosmusic Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported — CC BY 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ Music promoted by Audio Library https://youtu.be/SYGjI28nGec Audio URL https://pinecast.com/listen/45f66159-6d5d-4d9e-bfaa-e416910d3ef7.mp3

Episode 40: The Length of YOUR Cycle Matters

In today's episode I talk about why the length of your cycle matters when it comes to training. When you know the length of your cycle you can utilise your red circle window. It's in this window that your hormones support you to train hard, recover better and build strength. Your cycle length determines when you are in the four phases of training - build, peak and restore phases. When you know the length of your cycle it becomes a tool to support your training and programming. Do you know the length of your cycle? I recorded a 20-min video on how to use your cycle as a tool to support your training. I hope you'll check it out. https://youtu.be/N1WA8mFdxak You can connect with me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/amykatebowe/ Website: http://www.amykatebowe.com/ Email: [email protected] Music: Sorrow by Sappheiros https://soundcloud.com/sappheirosmusic Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported — CC BY 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ Music promoted by Audio Library https://youtu.be/SYGjI28nGec

Episode 39: Your cycle is a TOOL for your training

Why your cycle is an important tool for your training This episode is for women who train and want to understand how their cycle is a tool to support their training. Our hormones change during our cycle. At the start of our cycle we can train harder and longer, recover better and build strength easier. Towards the end of our cycle our hormones are their lowest, we may need to be more mindful with our training, it takes longer to recover and we crave more rest. Most women don’t know their cycle. They think their cycle works against them when it comes to training. But it is our superpower. It is a TOOL to use to help us get the results we want in our training. In this episode I will talk about why your cycle is an important tool for your training. We look at the science of the cycle and I share my story about how it was the missing prong in my red umbrella. Episode 38: Training, pregnancy and pelvic floors with Lizzy Crouch

In today's episode I chat to Lizzy Crouch. Lizzy has a Bachelor in Exercise Science, A Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and is a Postnatal Exercise Specialist. Lizzy supports women in getting the most out of life through movement and exercise during pregnancy, post-natal and beyond. Her "why" for what she does is grounded in a new role she took on almost two years ago when she gave birth to Jackson, now almost two (and has another one on the way). Lizzy talks about how she thought she was strong and fit for pregnancy, but soon found out that being able to squat 90kg didn't prepare her for the changes her body underwent during pregnancy and post-natal. We talk about training, her pregnancy, pelvis floors, the breath, body image and so much more. She wanted the tools to safely get back into the gym, onto the trails and on her bike. She dived into the research to learn about how to start training again after the birth of her son and found out that this wasn't really being done. She believes that all women should feel strong, capable and without hesitation when it comes to exercise, pelvic floor health and saying yes to activity and adventure. Episode 35: Community, Confidence and Taking Responsibility with Nerida Bint

My guest today radiates on a vibration that is positively infectious. She is a coach, a leader, business owner, a mentor, a manager, a fellow athlete AND AUSSIE! Nerida Bint is the owner of Lissome, a women's only gym in Newcastle, NSW in AUSTRALIA, where she has created every girls dream gym! Lissome's vision is to strive to make a global shift in the way women think about health through community, connection and contribution. Nerida and her girl squad have created a space where women of every age, shape, size or ability are welcomed, and challenged to embrace their bodies for what they can do, instead of how they look. Through training, mindset, nutrition and hard conversations women are finding confidence, connection and community, all while they lift heavy stuff, run and do pull ups. My biggest takeaway from this chat was that we can be held accountable to show up, train, connect and contribute, BUT in the end we need to take responsibility for ourselves, our thoughts and actions.
