North Carolina Weather 3/10 Morning - 30° Above Normal
Good morning. North Carolina. I'm Aaron Jolly. Step outside right now and you'll feel it, fifty-two degrees at sunrise. And we're just getting started. Today's bringing unseasonable warmth — the kind that makes you wonder if March forgot what month it's. The Piedmont wakes up around 58 and climbs to 82 by mid-afternoon, that's 30 degrees above normal for early March. Rain showers develop around noon and stick around through early evening, with the heaviest hitting around 4 P.M. The Triangle starts a touch cooler at 56 but reaches the same 82 by late afternoon. You'll stay mostly dry through the day, though a slight chance of rain pops up after 8 A.M. Head west into the mountains, while and Here comes 54 climbing to 78. A brief thunderstorm could roll through around 3 P.M., but coverage stays isolated. As the sun sets. Tonight stays mild statewide. The Piedmont drops to 64 with a slight chance of thunderstorms early evening. The Triangle settles near 62, mostly clear, the mountains cool to 58 under partly cloudy skies. Looking ahead. Looking at the week ahead. Wednesday cranks the heat even higher — mid-80s statewide, possibly flirting with record territory. Because Thursday brings a dramatic shift. A strong cold front barrels through early morning, delivering widespread rain and embedded thunderstorms. Totals could reach half an inch or more. And southeastern counties face a low-end severe weather threat. Behind the front, temperatures crash hard — highs only reach the mid-60s Thursday before dropping to the low 60s Friday. The weekend rebounds nicely with sunshine and low 70s Saturday. Sunday starts pleasant but rain chances return by evening. Looking ahead. Perfect day for a walk if you ask me. See you this afternoon.

North Carolina Weather 3/9 Midday - 31° Above Normal
Good afternoon. North Carolina. I'm Aaron Jolly. Step outside right now and you'll feel May weather showing up two months early. We're sitting at 62 degrees after a mild overnight low of 55. That trace of rain we picked up — about six hundredths of an inch — is already gone. Dense fog blanketed parts of the Piedmont and mountains this morning, dropping visibility to a quarter mile in spots. Made for a tricky commute. That fog should lift by late morning as sunshine punches through. Once it clears? Beautiful afternoon ahead with mostly sunny skies. Highs today reach the mid to upper 70s statewide. Charlotte and Raleigh both top out near 78 degrees — about 31 degrees above normal for early March. Head west toward Asheville and Here comes 74. We're not quite hitting record territory, but this is unseasonably warm. Tonight stays mild with partly cloudy skies. Lows drop to the low to mid 50s across most areas. Western North Carolina cools to 52, while the Piedmont and Triangle hover around 55 to 57. Tuesday brings near-record heat — low 80s with scattered showers and maybe a thunderstorm, especially in the morning. Wednesday stays hot with mid 80s before a strong cold front barrels through Wednesday night. That front brings widespread rain, possible thunderstorms. And a dramatic cooldown. Thursday's high only reaches the mid to upper 60s with showers likely. The mountains could even see a brief mix of rain and snow at higher elevations. Friday turns sunny and pleasant with highs in the mid 60s. The weekend looks beautiful — sunny skies, low 70s, perfect early spring weather. Enjoy this warmth while it lasts. See you this evening.
North Carolina Weather 3/9 Morning - 31° Above Normal
Good morning. North Carolina. I'm Aaron Jolly. If you stepped outside this morning, you might've thought someone turned the state into a cloud. Dense fog has rolled in overnight, dropping visibility to a quarter mile or less across the Piedmont and Triangle. The National Weather Service has a Dense Fog Advisory through 11 A.M. Take it slow if you're commuting. Use your low beams, not your brights — fog turns high beams into a wall of white. Give yourself extra space. Once that fog burns off by late morning, we're in for something special. Highs climb into the mid to upper 70s statewide — about 31 degrees above normal for early March. Charlotte and the Triangle both hit 78 degrees. Even the mountains see a pleasant 74. Light west winds keep things comfortable. Perfect weather for a lunchtime walk if you ask me. Tonight stays mild with lows in the low to mid 50s. The mountains drop to 52 degrees, while the Piedmont and Triangle settle near 55 to 57. Tuesday cranks the heat even higher. Highs soar into the low 80s across most of the state — Charlotte and the Triangle both reach 82 degrees, while the mountains hit 78. Near-record territory. There's a chance of scattered showers and maybe a thunderstorm, especially in the morning. Nothing severe expected, but keep an umbrella handy. Wednesday stays hot with mid 80s before a strong cold front crashes the party Wednesday night. That front brings widespread rain, isolated thunderstorms. And much cooler air. Thursday sees showers likely with highs only in the mid to upper 60s. The mountains could even see a rain-snow mix at higher elevations. Friday turns sunny and pleasant with mid 60s. The weekend looks beautiful — sunny skies with highs climbing back to around 70 degrees. Enjoy the warmth while it lasts. See you this afternoon.
North Carolina Weather: 03-08-2026 Midday
North Carolina weather update for midday
North Carolina Weather 3/8 Midday - 30° Above Normal
Good afternoon. North Carolina. I'm Aaron Jolly. Step outside right now and you're greeted by 70 degrees and air thick enough to drink. Overnight only dipped to 66. That's spring showing up early to the party. But here's the catch. Scattered thunderstorms are firing up this afternoon as a weak cold front slides through. All this moisture in the air? Perfect fuel. Storms develop across the Piedmont and Triangle between noon and early evening. The I-30 corridor takes the highest risk. Some storms could pack gusty winds and brief hail. Nothing catastrophic, but enough to ruin an outdoor lunch. Western North Carolina sees the earliest action. Rain showers kick off around 11 A.M., then thunderstorms roll through by early afternoon. Highs reach the upper 60s in the mountains. Down in the Piedmont, you hit 77 degrees before storms arrive around 2 P.M. The Triangle stays cloudy through midday, then storms develop between 1 P.M. and midnight. Expect a high near 78. Tonight, storms fade. Patchy fog creeps across the mountains. Lows settle near 50 out west, upper 50s across the Piedmont and Triangle. Monday brings fog early, then mostly sunny skies. Highs climb to the mid-to-upper 70s. Tuesday turns even warmer — low 80s statewide. Wednesday could challenge record highs, pushing the mid-80s. That's 30 degrees above normal for mid-March. But Wednesday night flips the script. A strong cold front barrels through with showers and possible severe weather. Thursday sees rain early, then clearing skies and a sharp cooldown. Highs drop to the mid-60s to low 70s. Friday and Saturday bring sunshine and comfortable temperatures in the 60s and low 70s. One more thing — clocks spring forward tonight. You lose an hour of sleep, but sunset tonight comes at 7:16 P.M. More daylight is on the way. See you this evening.
North Carolina Weather 3/8 Morning - Thunderstorms Starting 6 AM
Good morning. North Carolina. I'm Aaron Jolly. Step outside and you're already at 67 degrees. That muggy warmth? It's sticking around while storms roll through. Showers and thunderstorms are moving in this morning, heaviest through mid-afternoon. Western North Carolina takes the brunt — storms fire up around 6 A.M. and hang around through early evening. You've got an 80 percent chance of getting soaked. Highs near 69 before cooling to 50 tonight. The Triangle and Piedmont get a later start. Clouds dominate the morning, then scattered storms develop after 1 P.M. The Triangle hits 78 degrees around 4 P.M., while the Piedmont reaches 77 by early afternoon. Storms taper off by midnight. Lows drop to 59. Here's the thing — some of these storms could pack a punch. Damaging winds and hail are possible, especially along the I-77 corridor this afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center has a Marginal Risk posted for our eastern areas. Keep an eye on the sky. Looking ahead through the week. Monday brings widespread fog before 9 A.M., then mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid to upper 70s statewide. Tuesday cranks up the heat — we're talking 82 in the Piedmont, 83 in the Triangle. And 79 in the mountains. That's flirting with record territory for early March. Wednesday pushes even warmer — mid-80s across the board. Charlotte and Raleigh could tie daily records. But A strong cold front crashes through Wednesday night into Thursday, bringing widespread rain and possibly severe storms. Behind it, temperatures tumble hard. Friday sees highs only in the low 60s, with overnight lows dipping to the upper 30s. Classic North Carolina — dramatic and unapologetic. See you this afternoon.

That gray blanket should lift by mid-morning, setting the stage for a warm, wild day. Here’s what’s happening statewide. By noon, it feels like late April with highs hitting 81 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Just keep an eye to the west — a stray shower could roll in late tonight as temperatures dip to 65. The mountains are the wild card today. Mostly sunny skies give way to scattered showers and thunderstorms by mid-afternoon, hitting 76 degrees. Tonight is when things get interesting. The National Weather Service has flagged a marginal risk for severe weather west of I-85, especially in the foothills. Damaging wind gusts are the main threat there. We're talking 51 degrees above normal — the kind of warmth you'd expect in mid-May, not early March. Near-record territory statewide. Around 2 P.M., watch for a few brief thunderstorms to pop up across the Piedmont and the mountains. Nothing severe, just the atmosphere releasing some built-up energy. Most of you won't see a drop, but if you hear a rumble, don't be shocked. Tonight stays ridiculously mild. Lows only dip to the low 60s statewide. That's warmer than many spring afternoons. Leave the heavy blankets in the closet. Saturday continues the trend with highs in the upper 70s. Western North Carolina tops out at 76. Southwest winds gust to 20 miles an hour, keeping that mild air pumping in. Tonight barely cools off. Lows only drop to the upper 50s and low 60s statewide. That's warmer than some April nights. Partly cloudy skies stick around as Gulf moisture streams north. Friday cranks the heat even higher. Low 80s across most of the state. We're flirting with record territory here. Western North Carolina might see a few afternoon showers as deeper moisture arrives, but it's just a slight chance. Saturday mirrors Friday.
