EFor the past two years, I’ve been using this model to help hundreds of business owners & entrepreneurs create the life they seek. Mindset is messy and confusing if you don’t have clarity. So I wanted to share the 3 corners of mindset I teach my clients. In this post, I’m going to tell you exactly what those things are. But first, we must define what a good mindset is.

S3 Ep 7S3E07: Loneliness - The Hidden Struggle of High-Performing Business Owners
EMost of the entrepreneurs and business owners I work with are lonely. They get up early, and never really switch off from their work. Their partner loves them but doesn’t really understand. Their mates have real jobs. What’s more, what they’re pursuing is difficult, and what is difficult is inherently lonely. You are bombarded with self-doubt and questioning, and that compounds the loneliness. When you do something difficult with your life, loneliness will strike. Which would be fine if it didn’t completely derail you from your goals by leaving you second guessing your choices. Loneliness isn’t just a shitty way to feel though. Loneliness is an inhibitor of your goals. The irony is, you and I, us seekers of freedom, desire independence, but that independence often sacrifices connection.

S3 Ep 5S3E05: How To Destroy The Mental Block That Has Always Limited You…The Unconventional Way
EIn a weird way, the shame of not fighting back was always worse than the beating I took. I lay lifeless on the floor, as fists slammed into me. I was just an observer of the physical assault. I did nothing. After the event, I would - ironically - beat myself up about not having the courage or the masculinity required to fight back. That shame was the worst part. Partly in a quest to destroy this shame I joined the military. I then started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I saw myself as a fighter and thought I was beyond it. And at least physically, I was. But when I was confronted with a challenge at work, I saw a familiar pattern. I shut down. It looked like procrastination. It looked like laziness. It felt like fear and numbness combined. I would look back at the day and wish I had acted differently. Just the same as when I was lying in bed as a teenager…wishing I had fought back. Why could I logically know what to do, but physically not do it? Why couldn’t I break free from these invisible chains? This plagued me for years. I worked on my beliefs. I trained my character, but something was always missing. 18 months ago, I finally found the answer. It changed my life. It changed the lives of hundreds of high performers I’ve trained in this skill. Today, I’m going to share it with you.

S3 Ep 3S3E03: How To Make The Hardest Decision In Your Life
EI pressed send on the email. Immediately I felt sick. Tears stung my eyes & I felt like a colossal failure. I had a dozen more messages like that to send. Including an email to every customer I had that I was terminating their work with me. My stomach dropped at the thought of it. I still had to tell my coaches that they no longer had work from me. These were people I considered friends and who had given so much to the business. To my business. And I had let them down. This was by far the hardest decision I have ever made in my career. But it was also the best. Here are the key lessons I learned from that decision and how you can apply them too.

S3 Ep 1S3E01: Start Committing To Living Maximally
EAre you playing the music? Or just playing the notes? Last night was a surreal experience. At the front of the audience was a stage where every musician for fifty kilometres took their turn in performing. Teenage rock bands, a full orchestra, the local school, a choir, and naturally with this being France, a trio of accordionists, each stood on stage and delivered their recitals. Some were incredible. Real musicians that made you FEEL the music. These musicians moved those of us in the crowd. It felt smooth, and you could tell these were exquisite musicians. The applause for them was both enthusiastic and sustained. Others hit all the right notes, but the entire crowd fell flat and became awkward listening to them. The applause afterwards was a mere formality - “thank you for trying”. The weird thing is, these musicians performed virtually every note on their sheet music correctly, yet something felt…off. But how can that be? How can you play all the right notes at all the right times yet underperform? One is trying to avoid making mistakes and not be noticed. The other is a master of their craft, channelling not just the quavers and triplets written on the page, but something within themselves too. One is imitating greatness - repeating what the formula for success they’ve seen elsewhere… the other is publicly displaying their journey to find it within themselves. And you, the listener, can tell the difference. Are you simply just playing the 'right notes'?

Ep 96S2E37: Beyond Mindfulness: Exploring High ROI Approaches for High Performers
EIf you’re in the pursuit of high performance, you’ll have come across mindfulness. It’s heralded as the saviour of the ambitious, success seeking, crusher, who finds him/herself spinning their wheels, undisciplined, and way too mediocre for their liking. You’re not here to be mediocre, right? You’re here to fulfil your potential and live an intentional and deliberate life. And that’s where mindfulness is ushered in. If only you were more mindful, you could focus more on your tasks…stop those habits you’re ashamed of…and effortlessly cruise toward success. Yet in my experience coaching 1000+ high achievers, they’ve tried endless meditation apps. They’ve all promised them mindfulness mastery and their wildest dreams too. Yet these people jump on a call with me and regularly tell me “I’ve tried all the apps, but I still get distracted.” In this episode I’m going to explain why that is, and give you some alternatives for mindfulness that - in my experience - will transfer to better performance.

Ep 91S2E32 : How To Turn Your Mindset Into Your Greatest CrossFit Strength
EThere are a handful of mostly ignored ways to make your mindset your greatest strength. Today I’ll share how I implement these with my athletes. So many athletes name their mindset as their greatest problem, not their greatest strength. They say their mindset gives up before their body. Or their nerves prevent them from giving everything. Or they just can’t believe in themselves enough to perform well. You may be one of them. Most people fail to bolster their mindset because they fail to see it as a trainable skill. Today I’m going to share: Why trying to change your mindset too soon may actually make it worse How traditional goal setting just isn’t enough Why your self-reputation is essential to your mindset change And why you should give in to your weaknesses SOMETIMES

Ep 89S2E30 : The Simple Pre-Lift Routine That Gives CrossFitters A No-Miss Mentality
EToday, I’m going to teach you my four part pre-lift routine my athletes value more than any other. Successful lifters create stability in their lifts - both physical and mental. Without that stability you will imagine failed lifts, have distracting thoughts, and ultimately fail too many reps you should be able to hit. Most athletes have a pre-lift routine, but it fails to take into consideration the mental piece of the equation. When my athletes implement this routine, they see a massive spike in the increase of lifts they succeed in. Same goes with gymnastic skills too. Today, I’ll show you each of the four steps and how to BITE.

Ep 88S2E29 : All things mental health w/ Dr. Mike Banna

Ep 87S2E28: My Exact 4-Step Mindset Prep Formula For CrossFit Comps
EToday I’m going to unveil the four stages I always take athletes through before they have a competition. Naturally, there are some things I add on if required, but these are the essential steps that are always included. Most athletes rely on luck as their pre-lift routine, and luck isn’t a strategy. This is why so many athletes feel like they didn’t give the best they possibly could. They end up disappointed and frustrated at their poor showing. ‘Fail to prepare, prepare to fail’ and all that… So I developed these 4 steps to ensure athletes perform at their best.

Ep 86S2E27: The Masters Athlete Mindset Manifesto
EAs a masters athlete, your approach to training your mindset will be different to non-masters athletes. There are three main considerations I take when working with a masters athlete. Today, I’m going to show you what they are. The mistake I used to make was treating everyone the same in their mindset training. Turns out mindset is one-size-fits-one. Your age plays a factor in that. Today, I’ll explain how being a masters athlete affects what you focus on, the total amount of time you spend training your mindset, and how to focus on your unique challenges.

Ep 83S2E24: 3 Killer Ways For CrossFit Athletes To Completely Flip Their Mindset
EIf you look at your training & competing in the same way for the rest of your life, you will not change your mindset. Changing your mindset is about changing your perspective. Today, I’m going to show you 3 ways you can flip your mindset instantly. Each offers a complete reframe around your mindset & can help you break free from your mindset blocks. Once you’ve listened to this, you’ll understand why you’ve failed to change your mindset so far. You’ll also know what to do about it this time.

Ep 82S2E23: 10x Your CrossFit Mindset: Tips For Greater Gains
EToday, I’m going to give you the truth. Honestly, this isn’t the sexy stuff. I anticipate this blog will get way fewer views than most of my stuff, but it’s the truth behind strong mindset foundations. If you’re going to push yourself, your mindset better be built on strong foundations. Without strong mindset foundations, you’ll find yourself going round and round in circles; perpetually falling into the same old trap and wondering why you can’t change your mindset. When I start working with athletes, they want to jump into the shiny stuff straight away: pre-lift routines and the like. I’ll be honest with you for a moment - if you haven’t got a decent foundation of mindset, most of that will fall flat on its face. Here are the foundational mindset requirements. Get these right and you’ll close the gap between you and your potential. Get them wrong and you’ll always be stagnated.

Ep 81S2E22: The forbidden five: 5 mindset faults that destroy crossfitters
EWhether you are proud of the athlete you become or not, depends entirely on your mindset. Not your physical capacity. Think about your mindset as the thing which determines the gap between the level you perform at and your potential. Someone else wrote this better than me: Performance = potential - interference. In my time coaching crossfit athletes mindset, I’ve located five extremely common problems which hold athletes back from their potential: the forbidden five. Today, I’m going to help you figure out which one of these five is holding you back the most. If you don’t know the belief holding you back, you will always be limited by it, but you probably won’t be able to see it. “Until the unconscious becomes conscious, it will rule your life and you’ll call it fate.” C.G. Jung Today we’re going to cover: Why you can’t meet the standards you set for yourself Why you don’t believe in yourself Why you feel like the outsider Why you can’t change your mindset Why you feel it’s fine for someone else, but not for you

Ep 80S2E21: Why Athletes Stay Frustrated
EI see 7 big reasons CrossFit athletes stay frustrated with poor performances. If you consistently finish up comps or workouts second guessing your effort. Or look back at months of training and realise you haven’t come as far as you’d like. Or are just frustrated at how slowly you’re improving, this is for you. Especially if you have a hunch that your body isn’t the limiting factor, it’s probably your mind. Today, I’m going to let you know the 7 traps that I see athletes falling into time and again. If you fall into one of these 7 traps, your mindset will suffer, and so will your performance.

Ep 79S2E20: Debriefing The CrossFit Open: Making Mindset Moves
EIn this podcast I’m going to explain how I debrief CrossFit Open performances with my athletes to help train their mindset. This ensures no matter the result, they can use The Open to be better than they were before. Before we get started, I need to reiterate something: The quickest way to make The Open a complete failure is to learn nothing from it. No matter if it went well or poorly, you stop growing when you stop learning. The biggest mistake athletes can make right now (or after any comp) is failing to reflect on it by rushing onto the next thing. I’ve found that if athletes go through this process they never regress. Of course, there’s some more depth I hit whilst in conversation with them, but these are my starting points A mindset debrief comes in the following parts: Praising the positive intentionally Growing from setbacks and disappointments Increasing your self awareness Take action

Ep 78S2E19: Is your mindset exhausting? Here’s how to fix that
EIf your mindset is an exhausting emotional rollercoaster, I wrote this for you. Training like a full time athlete is exhausting enough. Combining it with not being able to live comfortably off sponsorship, running a full time & demanding job, or being a parent is infinitely harder. You have other exhausting things in your life, and you still have lofty aims. Yet the constant demands of everything stack up. And there’s always the inner doubt of “is all this even worth it?” Part of you wants to give up, but there’s a stronger part of you which desires a life well lived. Most athletes never reach their potential because they let this emotional rollercoaster take away from what’s important, create self doubt and make them think that anything less than perfection is failure. You don’t have to live that life. You don’t deserve that life. Today, I am going to teach you: How to drop the pressure when you need to perform How to let go of perfectionism How to stop being knocked around by your thoughts and emotions How to regain the fun in training

Ep 77S2E18: Journaling For Fitness Athletes: Training Positivity, Self-Knowledge, Mental Toughness & Consistency
E“I’ve tried to journal, but I don’t know how.” If that sounds like you, this blog post is your answer. I’m going to give you an exact framework of the 4 most common journaling exercises I use with the athletes I work with. If you’re like almost every athlete I have spoken to, you know you should be journaling, but you’re not sure how, you’re not sure it will even benefit you, or you struggle with it feeling like it’s working. If you’re not journaling, you’re missing out on huge mindset gains because you’re just settling for what’s normal to you… …not what’s best for you. Most athletes never get the most out of journaling because they don’t know how to do it effectively. I’m going to teach you how to journal for four main goals: How to be more a more positive athlete How to increase your self-knowledge How to become mentally tougher (or any other character skill you want) How to be more consistent, driven & disciplined

Ep 76S2E17: Comparison - It’s not so bad...
EThere are two types of comparison. One really is the thief of joy. If you compare in this way, you’ll always find proof you are not good enough. Your workouts will be filled with doubt and negativity. Your progress will stutter to a halt. Whilst this form of comparison will hurt you, comparison’s lighter side will guide you to better performances. It will highlight your best path to growth. And it will provide fuel for your progress as an athlete. So maybe you should be comparing yourself more, not less. This week, I’ve had conversations with a handful of the athletes I work with about comparison. They have been struggling with comparing themselves to the athletes they either look up to or want to beat. I told them they need to stop that way of thinking. Yet I had a conversation with another athlete where I encouraged them to compare themselves more to those kinds of athletes. When they did that, their performance excelled, their motivation spiked, and they felt more positive. Today, I’ll be explaining how I approach comparison with my athletes, and ensure that they’re using the correct type to fuel their process, not beat themselves up with. We’ll be covering The difference between the two types of comparison and what to avoid if you want to perform well How to recognise the negative type of comparison and limit how it shows up An antidote to the non-serving comparison to fuel positivity How to train positive comparison to excel as an athlete

Ep 75S2E16: Confident Athlete Blueprint
EToday, I’m going to show you the anatomy of a confident athlete. After reading this, you’ll know how to build your confidence and start performing like you believe in yourself. Because right now, I’m guessing there’s a little too much self-doubt in your performances… …not enough belief… …and a whole bunch of unhelpful self-talk. Which means that progress is slow and training has stopped being enjoyable. Most athletes never discover their confidence for two main reasons: They see confidence as a character trait which is set in stone, and not a trainable skill They never put the reps into changing it Today, I’ll give you the first steps in changing that. There’s so much BS out there when it comes to training your confidence. Most often we’re just told to be more confident… yes, but how? “Just believe in yourself” does more harm than good to the unconfident athlete I’m going to explain to you the four things confident athletes do, that you don’t do: Detaching from the problem Having something worth fighting for Creating the vital distance Creating effortless effort

Ep 74S2E15: Mindset Strategy For Olympic Lifts
EIf you struggle with Oly Lifting, brace yourself because the following doesn’t read nicely… You walk up to the barbell. This lift is always your biggest weakness. All you want is to succeed for once. But success is unpredictable for you. Will it be a good session or a bad one? You’ve already visualised missing the lift. The pressure is unbearable. You feel weak. Confidence through the floor. You tell yourself to drop the pressure, or just try and enjoy it, or maybe “just stop being so shit.” You’ve missed the lift before you’ve even touched the barbell. Which just proves to yourself the story that you’re not good enough & you won’t make your potential count. Ouch. Sorry to speak so bluntly, but if you’re not going to look honestly at the problem, I will. Because if your mindset sucks, your lifting will suffer. And using discipline, aggressive self talk, and psyching yourself up will not be enough to change a story that lives deep in the recesses of your mind. Today, I’m going to teach you a four-part mindset checklist to improve your relationship with olympic lifting.

Ep 73S2E14: ”I’m not good enough”: Imposter Syndrome In CrossFit
EIf you’re ready to overcome that little voice telling you “you don’t belong…” …you don’t deserve to be here… …you’re not good enough… … then you’re in the right place. Today, I’m going to teach you the 4 steps to eliminate imposter syndrome in the world of competitive fitness. Imposter syndrome is feeling you don’t belong and you’re going to get caught out. If you’re an athlete, that means looking at your competitors and feeling like you’re an outsider. It means feeling like you’re just making up the numbers and not a serious contender. But asides from feeling shitty, Imposter Syndrome means never living up to your potential when it counts, never feeling like you gave your best account of yourself, and missing the opportunity to meet your potential. Most athletes never get to grip with this problem. They dabble in mindset work but never find a system that works for them. Or they think they just have to “believe in themselves.” Basically, they try to change, but have no idea how to change. Imposter syndrome is not only costing you your best performances. It’s costing you fun, enjoyment, and purpose in the thing you love doing the most. Today I’m going to teach you the four steps you must take to overcoming this potential stopper: Discovering the story at the root of it Creating a “break in case of emergency” antidote The 7,000 year Imposter Syndrome Remedy Building confidence through an undeniable body of work

Ep 72S2E13: When Injury Strikes: Training Mental Strength & Overcoming Negativity
EToday, I am going to give you the tools you need to (a) not allow injury to destroy your mental health, and (b) use the setback of injury to move toward mindset mastery. If you’re teetering on the edge of (a), with negativity and despair setting in, (b) will seem impossible. I hear you, and I get the magnitude of the task ahead of you. Without a strong mental foundation, your rehab will be slower, be more emotionally and physically painful, and have a higher likelihood of setbacks. Mindset is as important as physio, rest, or sleep in overcoming injuries. I would go so far as to say, the biggest reason athletes fall off their rehab plans, or rush the recovery and therefore reinjure themselves is the mindset they hold. Fear or frustration get the better of them and they never regain the same level of performance they once had. Don’t be that person. Conquer the fear injury can create, and use it to become a better version of yourself. The alternative isn’t worth thinking about. Today you’ll learn: How to maintain positivity in the face of a long and boring rehab process What to do when you are confused about what to do next How to come out of injury better than you went in How to prepare yourself for getting back into training

Ep 71S2E12: How To Crush Every Training Session
EToday, I’m going to teach you how to leave your training sessions with no regrets. You’ll learn how to go all in on workouts when it really counts and lose that disappointed feeling you get when you hold back. If you’re like a lot of the athletes I speak to who haven’t started mindset training yet, you aren’t leaving the gym knowing you’ve crushed workouts. You probably feel disappointed and frustrated. Maybe you have plateaued. Your sessions are probably filled with negative self-talk. So the fun has disappeared and the growth has stopped. It’s time to go all in on your training sessions. Training - and let’s face it life - has never been about half-assing it has it? You only get one shot at this, and to become the athlete and person you have the potential to be, you have to go all in. If you want to make your life count, you’ve got to go all in. Here’s what we’re going to cover: Why you need to seek out hardship A 2 minute positivity tool that transforms training sessions Flipping the script when shit gets tough Becoming the type of person who thrives under hardship

Ep 70S2E11: 4 Counter-Intuitive Secrets To A Better Mindset in 2023
EAre the next 12 months going to be more of the same? Another year with great intentions but mediocre results? Or, is this going to be your year? One which counts? If you’re ready to commit to a new level of athleticism, master your mindset, and build habits which serve you in 2023, this blog is for you. Yes, you need more balance in 2023 than you had over the past 12 months. But more than that, you need to learn to flex your mindset skills and find adaptability amongst the chaos. There are four mistakes athletes make when training their mindset. Mistakes that will create performance-crushing levels of self-doubt, fear, and frustration. Especially when you combine that with a demanding career, family life, and a backstory which may be holding you back. Many athletes end up looking back at their time with disappointment that they didn’t fully commit to their potential. The opportunity to become the person they longed to be…to earn the respect of others… to have made these years valuable…has passed them by. If you do not change these four things about your mindset, 2023 will be yet another wasted opportunity:

Ep 68S2E20: How To Train Your Mindset w/ Khan Porter & Rachel Binette
EToday, I'm bringing you an extract of a webinar with Khan Porter, CrossFit Games athlete, and Rachel Binette, our Head Coach. It focuses on the role identity plays in your mindset, and features Khan's experience and perspective heavily. Enjoy!

Ep 69Mindset Is A Skill: Train It Accordingly
EToday, I’m going to teach you the right way to view your mindset. And help you stay away from the biggest mistake you could make. Having the wrong view of your mindset means; frustratingly slow progress; a lack of control over your thoughts and emotions; and your mindset always limiting your potential. The biggest reason you struggle to transform your mindset is thinking of it as something that goes through huge “shifts”, and not something that you incrementally train. You will fail to change your mindset if you don’t train it intentionally and daily. Mindset is a skill. Train it accordingly.
