Ep 345Jeannette Linfoot in EmpowHER Podcast with Shreya Parekh

Jeannette comes to you from the fabulous EmpowHer Podcast, hosted by Shreya Parekh, who turns the questions towards Jeannette. Jeannette shares her journey from working in the corporate world to starting her own businesses and becoming a mentor and podcast host. She discusses the challenges she faced as a woman in the corporate world and offers advice on achieving success and finding balance in life. Jeannette also opens up about her experience with the menopause and the importance of discussing it openly, emphasising the significance of mindset, self-belief, and taking action in reaching goals KEY TAKEAWAYS Jeannette challenges the notion that money doesn't bring happiness. She believes that money can provide opportunities, choices, and the ability to live the life one desires. She encourages people to embrace the idea of financial abundance and not be ashamed of wanting financial success. Any connection, whether virtual or in-person, can be valuable. Individuals should lead with value and help others first, as this can lead to reciprocal benefits in the long run. We should encourage open conversations about menopause and seeking medical advice to understand and manage its symptoms. Jeannette emphasises the importance of balance and self-care, particularly in terms of health and well-being. She shares her personal routine of exercise, meditation, and affirmations, and highlights the significance of taking care of oneself physically and mentally. BEST MOMENTS "I think it's so important that we spend time on ourselves and really thinking about what's going to give us joy, what's going to give us fulfilment." "Money can help other people, whether you want to set up a charity or donate. So I think there's a naivety around money, which I think is not healthy." "I think people sometimes don't admit that they want money. Everyone wants money. Who doesn't want money? I'm sorry, I think that's absolute, they're kind of lying to themselves really." "I'm a huge advocate for collaboration and networks and connecting the dots between people. What connections can they bring to you? Any connection, any human interaction, whether it's virtual or in person, it's got to be a good thing." This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. It’s never too late to be BRAVE and BOLD and unlock your inner BRILLIANCE. Ep 344Adele Nicoll Elite Athlete – Reaching for the Stars to Become an Olympian

Jeannette welcomes Adele Nicoll, an elite athlete and multi-sport competitor, to discuss Adele's journey into athletics, her natural talent and passion for sports, and her dedication to training and competing in shot put, discus, and bobsleigh. Adele shares her experiences of overcoming challenges, including the financial struggles of being a self-funded athlete, and the importance of having supportive relationships and role models. She also highlights the need for greater visibility and investment in women's sports, emphasising the value that individual athletes can bring to businesses and the wider community KEY TAKEAWAYS Adele acknowledges that she had natural athletic ability from a young age, but she also emphasises the importance of hard work and dedication in achieving success. Talent may open doors, but it is the effort that takes you to the top. Pushing through emotions and fulfilling your commitments, helps to demonstrate resilience and determination. There is a need for more female role models in sports, particularly in individual sports like athletics. Adele believes that visibility and support from businesses are crucial in promoting women in sports and creating equal opportunities. Adele encourages businesses to consider investing in individual athletes and not just team sports. She suggests that athletes can offer valuable skills and insights to businesses, such as motivation, inspiration, and resilience, which can benefit employees and contribute to better results BEST MOMENTS "I think there is a balance of obviously recovery is huge in what I do and I have to make sure I'm sleeping and I'm getting rest and I think I have this year become better at recognising when I'm getting run down because that's when you have to say I need a day off." "I think that to see change, there needs to be a merge between investment into sport, to see it not just as sport. Because I think that's sometimes the hesitancy with a lot of, I guess, businesses, they think, well, sport doesn't align with what we do. Sport aligns with everything that businesses do." "I think we really need to make it clear that it's never about males versus females. I think that it's always about females standing on their own on the same level as males, not to fight against males or to compete against males. It's about having the equal opportunity, the equal visibility." This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 343Body Confidence And Mindset

Jeannette discusses the topic of body confidence and its impact on mindset and overall well-being. She acknowledges the pressure created by social media and societal expectations to look a certain way, but emphasises the importance of embracing one's authentic self. Jeannette also shares personal experiences and interviews with two successful business owners who promote feeling good about oneself, providing tips for building self-confidence, such as establishing a well-being routine, seeking out positive role models, being mindful of social media influences, treating oneself, and valuing time. KEY TAKEAWAYS Embrace your authentic self, and learn to get comfortable with who you are and embracing your unique qualities and attributes. Establishing a routine that focuses on both physical and mental well-being can have a significant impact on how you feel about yourself. This can include activities such as exercise, meditation, and visualisation. Seek out role models who inspire you and help you become a better version of yourself. These role models can be found in various areas of life, including media, friends, family, and colleagues. While social media can have positive aspects, it's important to be aware that the images and content presented may not always reflect reality. Avoid comparing yourself to unrealistic standards and be cautious about the content you consume. Be kind to yourself and reward yourself for your accomplishments, no matter how big or small. Additionally, recognize the value of time and use it wisely, focusing on activities and relationships that contribute to your personal growth and happiness BEST MOMENTS "There's so much pressure out there in terms of images on social media, maybe sometimes we think that we need to look a certain way, behave a certain way and that can really impact how we come across, how we feel about ourselves and also just our general mental well-being." "But if we can enhance that and make you feel good about that, then that's an amazing thing to do." "So, you know, to take a collagen supplement, it's not all about wrinkles on your face, but in general around your joints, kind of your muscle health, etc." "We all have different parts of our body that we don't like, we're not happy with. We've got wobbly bits, right? But if you let that infiltrate your brain too much, it can really affect how you feel about yourself, your confidence, and essentially how you put yourself out into the world." She discusses the importance of sisterhood and supporting women in business, as well as the power of being true to oneself. Silversea's newest ship, Silver Nova, showcases the combination of Silversea's heritage and Royal Caribbean's engineering capabilities. It features an asymmetrical design, allowing for more glass and natural light, as well as an open pool deck that offers unobstructed views of the destination. The company is committed to sustainability and has built Silver Nova to be the most sustainable ship in its class, reducing greenhouse emissions by 40% compared to previous ships. The partnership with Royal Caribbean Group has enabled Silversea to invest in sustainable practices and technologies. BEST MOMENTS "Success is a very dangerous teacher, because the day we believe we got it all, that's when, first of all, I think we stop enjoying because part of working for me is also learning new things every day." "I always consider my biggest strength the fact that I was born blonde with blue eyes, because many stupid men, they think you're stupid. And so they treat you like a blonde." "The strength about an asymmetric ship is really the consumer benefits that come out of it. So the whole structure of the ship is inside, which allows the whole ship to be built in glass. So the first thing, which is difficult to explain on a podcast, but this is really the ship of light." "So sometimes, as much as we were talking before about just open yourself to the universe and be out there, but also, don't be afraid of saying no if it doesn't feel right, because it's much harder to say no than yes." Ep 338Anita Mendiratta - Defining The Call to Leadership

Jeannette is joined by Anita Mendiratta, a strategic advisor, renowned diplomat, and author of the upcoming book "The Call to Leadership: Unlocking the Leader Within in Times of Crisis." Anita shares her insights on what makes a great leader during a crisis, emphasising the importance of a leader's wiring and their ability to interpret their role in the moment. She discusses her career journey and the catalyst for writing her book, which explores the experiences and lessons of influential leaders during the global pandemic. KEY TAKEAWAYS Great leaders have a clear understanding of their purpose and the motivation behind their actions. They lead with a focus on something bigger than themselves, whether it's protecting their team, their organisation, or their community. Leaders need to have clarity on what aspects of a crisis they can control and take action on. By understanding this, they can make informed decisions and create a sense of stability amidst uncertainty. Leaders should be able to articulate and visualise the potential negative impacts of a crisis. By doing so, they can better prepare and develop strategies to mitigate those risks. Effective leaders think beyond the immediate challenges and consider the future. They focus on how to navigate through the crisis and create opportunities for growth and recovery. BEST MOMENTS "I fundamentally believe that if we waste that time, if we spend all of that time having all of these great conversations about what we're not going to do again to make sure that we course correct and we forget those, we have wasted one of the best opportunities we've had as a bonding agent for our industry." "No one ever stopped and said, Paul, how are you? No one had ever asked these leaders how they were. They were asking about the businesses." "It's when decisions are made in a vacuum and during a crisis like we found with COVID, information was emerging in different ways, different times, different forms, and also different truths. People need information. It's food when there's a state of crisis." "My point of view is always this, it's very easy to criticise and look backwards when we're in our comfort zone. But when we reflect back to those moments… we did not know. We did not have the blessing of information. We did not have any meaningful understanding. So we relied on people." Ep 331How To Find The Perfect Mentor To Achieve Greatness

Jeannette discusses the importance of having a mentor to scale up one's career, business, and life. Drawing from personal experience as both a mentee and a mentor, she shares ten invaluable tips on finding the perfect mentor, including committing to the mentorship journey, identifying the desired experience and values in a mentor, conducting thorough due diligence, arranging face-to-face meetings, and speaking directly to the mentor's previous mentees. KEY TAKEAWAYS Before seeking a mentor, make sure you are fully committed and ready to invest the necessary time, finances, and emotional energy into the mentorship. When looking for a mentor, consider their experience in your specific industry or sector, as well as their values, behaviours, and style to ensure a good fit. Conduct thorough due diligence on potential mentors, including checking their social media presence, conducting online searches, and speaking to their current or past mentees. Once you have identified potential mentors, arrange face-to-face meetings to get to know them better and ask about the results they have achieved for their mentees. Additionally, speak directly to their mentees to gain insights into their mentoring style and effectiveness. BEST MOMENTS "I'm a massive believer in mentors, in coaches. I have had mentors and coaches throughout my entire career, always at pivotal moments where I have either had a promotion, I've been setting up a business or I have been, you know, kind of shifting from one world to the next." "I'm a big believer in you have to have direct experience before you can talk on any topic." "The trust in the relationship between a mentor and a mentee is paramount." Jeannette talks about the importance of running a business with a heart, prioritising people and customers over profits, and her journey from a corporate career in the travel industry to becoming an entrepreneur, as well as her passion for empowering women in the boardroom. KEY TAKEAWAYS It’s crucial to put customers and people first in business, rather than solely focusing on financial gains. By prioritising customer satisfaction and creating a value-driven business, financial success will naturally follow. All forms of diversity, including gender, LGBTQ, and social diversity, are important. Creating an inclusive environment not only benefits society but also leads to better financial results and customer experiences. It’s important to take responsibility, learn from failures, and maintain a positive mindset to move forward and achieve success. Leaders have a responsibility to inspire their teams, customers, and stakeholders. Leading by example, being authentic, and treating everyone with respect are key aspects of inspiring leadership. There are 3 S's we can use to break through barriers and turn inspiration into action. State refers to mindset and energy levels, story involves the beliefs and narratives we tell ourselves, and strategy focuses on taking action and implementing plans. By addressing these three aspects, individuals can overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. BEST MOMENTS "If you put your customer and your people first, and you do the right thing with a great idea that's unique and different, then the money will follow." "Everyone has skills and contributions that they can make, but you have to really create an environment where proactively you're encouraging those opportunities for all." "Don't lose hope when bad things happen, but own it, take responsibility, don't blame others." "Change your state, change your energy, go to the gym, get a positive endorphin rush, and then the world seems more open to possibilities." "Fundamentally, every person has good in them. I like to think most people are good." This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 329Where Businesses Are Getting Their Next CEOs From

Are you looking to get the top job? To become the CEO, an MD? If the answer is yes, then Jeannette’s here to explain to you exactly where the best businesses are finding their CEOs and leaders. Armed with this invaluable information, you’ll find it much easier to step up when it counts and grab that job of your dreams. KEY TAKEAWAYS During COVID, there was a huge shift in terms of CEO turnover – leaving organisations and joining new ones. The number departing for new jobs fell by 10% in 2020, to just 8.9% in 2021. More women were appointed as CEOs in 2023, but women are still massively under-represented in terms of the global numbers. 87% of new CEOs were men. It’s not always ideal to move externally in order to get your dream role. If you wish to ascend internally, then start engaging with key decision makers and stakeholders – let them know how valuable you are. BEST MOMENTS ‘If you’re ambitious and you really want to step up, then what do you need to be aware of?’ ‘That turnover figure actually went back up in 2022’ ‘You’re going to need to dig in, raise your profile, get networking like mad and really engage’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 327Lessons Learnt at the Crossroads of My Life

Jeannette shares the lessons she has learned at the crossroads of her life, and discusses the key decisions she has made and the challenges she has faced, offering support, guidance, and inspiration. KEY TAKEAWAYS Don't be afraid of making decisions at critical points in your life. These crossroads can lead to new directions and opportunities. Taking risks and stepping out of your comfort zone can lead to personal and professional growth. Embrace opportunities that may seem challenging or unfamiliar. Believe in your abilities and don't let self-doubt hold you back. Recognise your accomplishments and focus on your strengths. Reflect on what brings you joy and fulfilment in life. Discover your purpose and align your actions and decisions with it. BEST MOMENTS "Life is tough. Business is tough. Not everything goes well, but it's how we deal with it that's so important, isn't it?" "Don't be afraid of failure. Sometimes it's by really just embracing that and go, well, how bad can it be? Unless someone is going to die in this situation, anything else from that is upside." "Sometimes the stories that you tell yourself can be the most damaging and can really constrain you." "Find your purpose. What's your purpose? What's your reason? Why do you get out of bed in the morning? What legacy do you want to leave for your family, for your kids, for the people you care about?" "Even if a company may be guilty of malfeasance, if they take ownership and address it in a meaningful way, that always mutes what the situation is." "You have to get into the core of what the issue is. The most crucial point is how you respond and the amount and timing of your response." Ep 325How To Get That Promotion

Jeannette shares valuable insights on how to secure that next big promotion. Drawing from her extensive experience in recruiting and promoting individuals, as well as her own successful career progression, Jeannette provides practical advice on six key areas. KEY TAKEAWAYS Before pursuing a promotion, it's important to have a clear understanding of your next ideal move, whether it's within your current organization or externally. Consider the role, organization, and potential career progression. Even for internal promotions, having a well-crafted CV is important to demonstrate your accomplishments and readiness for the next step. Being visible and known for your expertise can increase your chances of being considered for promotions. Don't assume that others know about your career aspirations. Have proactive conversations with your boss and other relevant stakeholders to express your goals and seek feedback on what you need to do to be considered for a promotion. This will help you create a plan and demonstrate your commitment to growth. BEST MOMENTS "You cannot assume that people know what your next move is going to be." "Networking should just be part and parcel of what you do. Put yourself out into the world, not give to receive, just give." "Do more than you are paid to do. Volunteer for projects, volunteer to speak, volunteer to put your hand up as much as you possibly can." "Your network is your net worth." Ep 322Daniel Priestley - Helping Businesses, Showbiz Stars & Entrepreneurs be BRAVE, FUN & DENT

This time, Jeannette is joined by author, speaker, entrepreneurial mastermind, and founder of Dent Global, Daniel Priestley! Daniel joins Jeanette for an empowering conversation about where he finds his entrepreneurial spark, how to become a key person of influence, why success is even sweeter when it comes as the result of hard work, why the accepted wisdom about authenticity might be wrong, and how to strike the best balance between business and life. KEY TAKEAWAYS Authenticity isn't always the best way to keep your brand afloat. It's often best used as a spice rather than an ingredient. People came to you for a reason, and you should always keep that in mind. Key persons of influence raise their profile, create amazing products, and form partnerships that generate life-changing results. Business requires work, dedication and sacrifice if the heights of success are being sought, but we must never discount the value in reflection, fun, and making sure that the right culture is instilled. Ep 321De-Clutter To Spark Inspiration And Creativity

Jeannette discusses the "fertile void", a concept that describes how, if we find ourselves in a creative void for a time, then it can spark unprecedented levels of creativity and productivity. KEY TAKEAWAYS We're currently going through much in the way of change and unpredictability. We're in a void situation, as the norm has essentially disappeared, which can feel uncomfortable. If you are able to stay in a position of being "comfortably uncomfortable" with not knowing what the next step might be, then you can spark creativity. When we hit downtime, rather than panic and try to fill that space with other things, pause - just give yourself some time. BEST MOMENTS 'You need to be able to rest in order for your mind to come up with creativeness' 'Things can come to you that would not have appeared to you before' 'Try and stay in that place where it is uncertain and it is uncomfortable' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 320Oliver Winter CEO A&O Hostels - Breaking Down Borders to Create a Green Empire

Oliver Winter is the CEO and co-founder of a&o hostels, having founded the company 20 years ago with Michael Kluge. Since then it has gone on to become one of the most successful hostel chains in the world, with annual turnover in the nine-figure range. Oliver joins Jeannette to talk about how he founded a global brand, and the differing skill sets he has acquired along the way, including becoming a prolific property investor. KEY TAKEAWAYS Hostels provide a sense of community, where people can come together in ways not possible in the hotel world. Almost half of the business relies on groups for bookings, and hostels prove extraordinarily popular with the likes of students, who seek low-cost accommodation that allows them to remain together as a group. Maintaining hostels requires not just a sense of business, but investment. Oliver has, along the way, become a property investor, and is now responsible for many units. If you have a good business idea, then be brave enough to put it out there into the world, and be disruptive enough to see it through. Stick to your idea and stick to your way of doing things. BEST MOMENTS 'You have to understand your target group' 'I always was focussed on operations, but to control a property has some charm' 'Our early lives influence our lives as adults' 'Be brave, be disruptive' 'The priority was to bring. commercial culture to the people who raise the money' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Winter intended to begin his career in teaching, but while on a study break travelling the world in the mid-1990s, he was inspired to come up with a new hostel concept. Oliver wanted to give people, especially students or young people, the opportunity to stay in professionally managed, affordable and centrally located accommodation, with no youth hostel card fee. After several initial attempts at getting the company off the ground, Winter was approached by his experienced, entrepreneurial landlord, who deemed the idea a ‘winning’ concept. The two of them collaborated, and together in 2000 they opened their first a&o hostel, a 164-room property in Berlin. Since launching the brand, Winter has successfully expanded the company having been responsible for its strategic growth, with a&o operating 39 hostels in 25 cities and nine European countries. A 40th property is planned for spring 2024 with a&o Florence. In 2022 a&o recorded its most successful year to date. Welcoming more than 5.55 million overnight stays and a turnover of more than 172 million Euros, the hostel chain surpassed results from the pre-COVID year 2019 (around 150 million) and experienced a turnover increase of more than 100 million Euros compared to 2021 – almost 150 percent more. Ep 318David Robinson Travel Industry Legend - Creating a Bridge Between Travel & Charity

Jeannette talks to world-renowned business leader and travel industry specialist, David Robinson, about his fascinating career - one that has taken him to the heights of the corporate world as well as the upper echelons of the charity sector – how the lessons of business can amplify the charity business as a whole, and why values matter so much when it comes to establishing business brands and creating powerful messaging. KEY TAKEAWAYS David has found success in the charity sector by applying the rules of business, but keeping the element of care and the human factor at the forefront. Bringing people along on the journey of change is challenging, especially for long time workers. But the world is changing, and we must, too. To survive in the charity sector, the lessons of business must be applied. This requires resilience, and a focus upon the right kind of fundraising and marketing. The charity sector needs support in learning how to survive in the long term. The cost of living crisis has meant that people are less inclined to give freely - combatting this mindset will decide how charities survive going forward. BEST MOMENTS 'I've always loved travel, and ever since I was a child I wanted to work in that industry' 'The basis upon which we achieved that was through the changing culture and values' 'It's been a really interesting journey' 'The priority was to bring. commercial culture to the people who raise the money' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. He was involved in the acquisition process of the business to Thomas Cook Plc and ultimately was a Board Director of Thomas Cook Scheduled Businesses responsible for the airline, hotel and ground product portfolio of over £500m. After taking a short break he looked at using his skills for more charitable purposes. Initially, taking a role as a Trustee David moved, taking the role as Chief Executive of a children’s hospice which needed a thorough review of the culture, values and strategy. When he took over the reins the charity held a ‘requires improvement’ rating from the regulator. Using his skills for business, strategic planning, culture and values he transformed the charity attaining a rating of ‘Outstanding’ within two years with the regular citing the significant shift in culture, values and governance as overwhelming and inspiring. He has also been an active member of several advisory councils in the charity sector with the most significant being Together for Short Lives, a nationally recognised organisation. David stepped down from the CEO role at the end of last year and is now providing consultancy in business, strategy, culture and values to both the commercial and charity sector. Ep 313Have You Got The Guts To Fail?

Have you got the guts to fail? Are you failing big, or not at all? In this episode, Jeannette talks about why failure can be the most liberating, and most exciting thing that you could possibly do. KEY TAKEAWAYS The way we think of failure is always in negative terms, and it's about time that we reframed things, so that we see failure as a way to learn. Every single person has greatness within them, but it's not always easy to unlock. It's the fear of failing that stops us from even trying. Become very clear on what it is that you want. If your reason for trying is compelling enough, then you'll find strength in this. BEST MOMENTS 'If you're not failing, then you are in your comfort zone. You're not even trying' 'If you're not failing, then you're not learning, and that means you're not growing' 'You're going to get knocked back in life and business. That's just the way it is' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. It’s never too late to be BRAVE and BOLD and unlock your inner BRILLIANCE. Ep 312Claus Nehmzow, CEO Binex - How to Save Our Planet

An accomplished business architect with a wealth of experience spanning over 30 years, Claus Nehmzow is synonymous with innovative solutions, having served a diverse array of industries, from multinational conglomerates to emerging startups. His expertise centres on utilising transformative technologies such as AI, VR/AR, blockchain, quantum computing, and robotics to reimagine business landscapes. Claus joins Jeannette to talk about why the world of business is embracing technology as a way of enhancing its offering to the world, and the fascinating ways in which technology can aid us in hitherto undreamt of ways. KEY TAKEAWAYS The shipping industry is looking to replace its fleets with greener alternatives, which led Claus to Binex, and the solutions that it can offer. The shift to greener ways of working was always based upon cost savings, but now the initiatives seem to centre around a far more responsible outlook for the world. Tech means that outdated fossil fuels can be replaced with much more efficient new forms of fuelling that burn hotter, and allow older, more destructive means, such as coal, to be retired forever. Not only can the new technologies provide new sources of food and energy, but also income streams for marginalised communities who have seen their prosperity levels drop in recent generations. It's a global win win for humanity BEST MOMENTS 'At Binex we have the opportunity to use green energy using the latest tech possible' 'This allows us to replace coal in coal-fired plants!' 'We can offer a better approach to make energy and food' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. The company cultivates its own scalable biomass from sorghum plants on marginal lands, producing both nutrient-dense food and bio-methanol and biomass pellets, thus offering a versatile and renewable fuel that aids in decarbonizing various industries. Previously, as the Chief Innovation Officer at Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS), Claus navigated the company's digital transformation, steering the overall technology strategy and IT team. Ep 311Change Your Identity To Achieve Results

Jeannette explains why, if you wish to get life-changing results, you may need to consider changing your identity, and what that process entails. KEY TAKEAWAYS There are multiple differing ways to achieve success in life, but we tend to focus on the wrong things. If you want to up your game and create sustainable results, instead of focussing on the outcomes, look at the inner you. You can focus on the output, the strategy, and your identity. When change is required, people focus on outcomes or strategy. The best way is to change your identity first. BEST MOMENTS 'You've got to change who you see yourself as in order to achieve lasting change' 'Each and every one of you has greatness within' 'The stories that we tell ourselves really creates a lasting impact' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 307Adversity - Break On Through To The Other Side

Jeannette talks you through the all-important "breakthrough" moment - the moment in time when everything changes, and when you push through barriers towards the heights of success. KEY TAKEAWAYS There are times when it can feel as though you're being held back from achieving that elusive goal. The breakthrough moment is when that barrier finally crumbles and you move on to where you need to be. The three areas you need to focus on in order to create a breakthrough are: State, Story and Strategy. You can control your state by looking towards exercise, sleep and a healthy diet. Changes such as these all contribute towards enhancing the state you're in. Your story matters when it comes to success. If you don't believe in the story you've made for yourself, how will others believe it? BEST MOMENTS 'It's when the impossible, all of a sudden, becomes possible' 'Breakthroughs don't just happen. You have to make sure you're in the best place possible' 'Creating a breakthrough can create a huge difference to every aspect of your life' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 304Julie-Ann Haines CEO Principality Building Society - Leading with Integrity

Jeannette is joined by Julie-Ann Haines, the CEO of Principality Building Society, for a discussion about how she achieved the success she's found, why it's okay to let go of things sometimes in order to bloom in your career, and how to best empower your teams to do their very best. KEY TAKEAWAYS Career paths don't always move in a straight line. It's fine to test things out and find out about yourself along the way. You have to let go to grow sometimes. Holding on to the same things can stunt your development, so know when to hand things off and look for a new challenge. If you're empowering a team, then go all in on it. Teams can't gain a sense of trust unless they're allowed to shine in their own way. Stakeholders are always in search of confidence. It's up to us as leaders to best define what that looks like and deliver wherever possible. BEST MOMENTS 'I'm a proponent of squiggly careers' 'You have to let go to grow' 'That's where the trust with your team is so important' 'What all stakeholders need is confidence' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 303Say Yes Before No

Jeannette talks about the value of saying "Yes", and how by opening ourselves up to opportunities in a positive way, we can also open ourselves up to hitherto unexplored avenues of growth. KEY TAKEAWAYS In life we often close down opportunities too soon by putting up barriers before we've begun. We need to stop, think, and agree more if possible. When you find that you're saying no before yes, stop in the moment and recognise it's happening. it can be helpful to have a trigger to remind you of this. BEST MOMENTS 'How can you retrain your subconscious, so that we say yes before no' 'The reality is that we only have one life, and there are opportunities everywhere' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. KEY TAKEAWAYS When you're supported by humble, down to earth people, it keeps you grounded, no matter how high you may be in the business world. It's essential to keep it real. Speaking directly from a diving trip in Australia, Jeannette talks about the value we gain when we step outside of our comfort zone, and dive into uncharted waters in search of new ways to grow. KEY TAKEAWAYS Life is all about taking chances. The worst possible outcome would be to reach the end of life and feel a sense of regret about the things we could have done, but didn't. Before you're able to dive, qualification is essential, and it's the same in life. if some new endeavour requires training, then learn the ropes. Diving is usually done int he company of a master or mentor. Ep 300Louise O’ Shea, Former CEO Confused.com - Leading the Way for Diversity & Inclusion

Jeannette talks to Louise O'Shea, the Chair of InsurTech UK's Advisory Panel and the former CEO of Confused.com. Under Louise's stewardship, Confused's revenue doubled and profits tripled, results that Louise puts down to her impactful, disruptive style of leadership. In this episode, Louise talks about her success, the value of diversity and inclusion, and why we should never be afraid to think outside of the box when it comes to our business journey. KEY TAKEAWAYS If you love what you do, then even if you aren't the most successful, it still means that you'll enjoy the journey. We have "sliding door" moments in life that can send us off into all new directions, but these areas are where the real opportunity resides. Be brave enough to consider these pivot points. You have to have a purpose greater than yourself, and be part of a team that motivates you, in order to ensure that we gain true job satisfaction. Just because one chapter closes doesn't mean that more exciting chapters aren't ahead of you. See a closing door as the opportunity for an opening one. BEST MOMENTS 'I've always been driven by "love what you do"' 'You've got to understand where you've come from if you want to know where you are' 'If you're clear on what your purpose and where you're heading, it's a lot easier to get there' 'There are opportunities everywhere' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 299Optimising LinkedIn To Create Meaningful Relationships

Jeannette talks you through the best ways in which you can improve your experience on LinkedIn, use this fantastic tool to make meaningful connections, and increase the leads you can generate for your business as a result. KEY TAKEAWAYS Often with social media we are not as intentional as we should or could be. We scroll aimlessly without any specific purpose in mind. Using LinkedIn proactively and purposefully will create real impact for you and your business. LinkedIn - above other social media forms - is best for business as it's centred around that endeavour. Think about your profile and represents what you're about - focus on the first line beneath your name and design it to show what you can do for people. Ep 297How To Start And Scale Your Podcast

As a successful podcaster, Jeannette talks about the power of podcasting, what it can do for your business in terms of spreading your message, and how to start and scale a show of you own. KEY TAKEAWAYS There's something intensely personal about hearing the voice of someone you follow. It's a direct connection between you and the listener. Understand why you want to make a podcast in the first place. If you are clear on your "why" and it aligns with your values, you will be much more successful. Pick a subject that you are passionate about. If you aren't in love with your subject matter then you will fall out of love with the process. Consistency is key, Make sure you treat it seriously and commit to it as though it was a job. You don't want to come out quickly at the beginning and then find you can't keep up with the pace. Jeannette talks to renowned theatre director, Luke Kernaghan, on the ways in which he has harnessed the power of his creativity to unlock success, the value of connections and how networking has accelerated his journey of growth, and why following your passions is the key to lifelong happiness when it comes to your career choice. KEY TAKEAWAYS There is no substitute for authenticity, and you cannot truly be yourself until you've asked the internal questions required. Sometimes the forces that drive us are difficult to identify, and manifest themselves through instinct. We should always listen to our inner voice. If we are able to identify our passions, and forge a career in that sector, then working becomes a privilege, and fulfilment is far easier to achieve. Theatre in particular, thrives upon community. Those who are in the field, raise each other up and encourage support from all sides. BEST MOMENTS 'Your energy is incredible. You clearly love what you do' 'My journey was not linear' 'You don't go into theatre to make money!' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. It’s never too late to be BRAVE and BOLD and unlock your inner BRILLIANCE.
