Ep 495From Side Hustle to Six Figures - The Secrets They Don’t Tell You!

Jeannette discusses the transformative journey of turning a side hustle into a thriving business. She outlines ten essential steps for success, including validating your business idea, creating a simple business plan, ensuring financial security, and building a strong personal brand. KEY TAKEAWAYS Before fully committing to your side hustle, ensure there is sustainable demand for your product or service by assessing market trends and gathering data. Develop a high-level business plan that outlines your concept, target audience, unique selling points, and financial goals to guide your side hustle's growth. Establish a financial cushion by saving at least six months' worth of living expenses to support yourself while transitioning from a regular pay-cheque to your side hustle. To reduce risk, create multiple sources of income, such as combining your job with your side hustle, investing in rental properties, or monetising content. Ep 494Kidnapped, Tortured, and Left for Dead – How Cheryl Hunter Fought Back!

Jeannette is joined for a powerful conversation by Cheryl Hunter, who shares her harrowing yet transformative journey from a traumatic kidnapping experience in her teenage years to becoming a beacon of hope and resilience. Cheryl recounts the pivotal moments of her life, detailing the isolation of her childhood in the Colorado Rockies, the shocking turn of events in Europe, and the long-lasting impact of her trauma. Through her story, she emphasises the importance of breaking the silence surrounding personal struggles and the healing power of sharing one's narrative. KEY TAKEAWAYS The journey from being a victim to becoming a victor is possible. Choosing to overcome and grow from traumatic experiences rather than allowing them to lead to bitterness is a powerful transformation. Sharing personal stories of trauma can liberate not only the individual but also inspire others to confront their own hidden struggles. Authentic storytelling fosters deep human connections and can help break the cycle of silence surrounding trauma. Embracing the concept of wabi-sabi, which finds beauty in flaws and imperfections, can shift perspectives on personal experiences. Recognising that our scars and struggles contribute to our uniqueness can lead to self-acceptance and healing. Everyone has faced adversity in some form, and the interpretations of these experiences often shape our behaviours and relationships. Understanding that we all share this commonality can foster empathy and connection among individuals. BEST MOMENTS "I felt more captive after than I did when I was there, because now I couldn't escape it. There was no escaping it. It was now between my ears, this captivity." "I decided with very little skill or world knowledge that how I was going to cope moving forward was to pretend it didn't happen." "I think each of us has things that we feel are wrong with us, are broken, are damaged. Each of us... has at some point hidden those things." "If we can share those things, it will set us free and to bring it all back together again, sharing our stories allows us to mine the gold from the adversity." Ep 488From Top CEO to Wheelchair Warrior – Steve Ingham’s Untold Story!

Jeannette is joined by Steve Ingham, CBE, a former CEO of Page Group, who shares his remarkable journey from leading a global recruitment business to navigating life after a life-changing ski accident in 2019 that left him paralysed. Steve reflects on his impressive 37-year career, highlighting his achievements in transforming Page Group into a market leader with over 9,200 employees and significant revenue growth. He discusses the importance of resilience, the lessons learned from adversity, and the role of leadership in fostering a supportive company culture. Additionally, Steve delves into his current work with various charities focused on disability, emphasising the need for inclusivity and equity in the workplace. KEY TAKEAWAYS The journey from a successful CEO to living with a disability highlights the importance of resilience. Embracing challenges and maintaining a positive outlook can help individuals navigate significant life changes. In times of crisis or personal struggle, it's crucial to keep a broader perspective. Reflecting on loved ones, future goals, and positive experiences can provide motivation and strength to overcome immediate difficulties. Building a strong, inclusive company culture is essential for retaining talent. A supportive environment where employees feel valued and engaged can lead to lower attrition rates and higher overall performance. Successful leadership requires a commitment to long-term goals rather than short-term gains. Investing in infrastructure and people, even at the cost of immediate profits, can yield significant returns in the long run BEST MOMENTS "I guess it was the growth because I joined when it was 200 people. And I left when it was 9,200 people." "I knew I was going to be in a wheelchair. And I told them my story and I told them about how my kids had found out." "If you focus in on just that moment in time, things can look very, very dark indeed." "You have to create a culture that people didn't want to leave." Whilst prior to his accident he was a big advocate and driving force for improving EDI in Page, his accident gave him new motivation to do more. Following 3 out of 4 record years (2019-2022) and achieving the company Vision, he chose, after 17 years as CEO, to retire from Executive responsibilities. He now hopes to focus on improving attitudes towards disability in the workplace and to shine a light on hidden talent pools. Jeannette is joined by Alexandra Haider, Senior Content Editor at Pion and Trends and Insights Specialist, who delves into the complexities of engaging with Generation Z. Drawing from her expertise, Alexandra discusses the defining characteristics of Gen Z, their unique values shaped by recent global events like the pandemic, and the influence of technology and social media on their behaviours, exploring how brands can effectively connect with this generation by embracing authenticity, flexibility, and purpose-driven initiatives. KEY TAKEAWAYS Generation Z, born between 1998 and 2004, is a diverse cohort with varying experiences and characteristics. They are the first digitally native generation, having grown up with technology and social media, which significantly influences their behaviors and values. The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly affected Gen Z, leading to a shift in their expectations regarding work flexibility and remote working. Many Gen Z individuals prefer not to return to traditional office environments, valuing the ability to work from anywhere. Gen Z is increasingly focused on sustainability and ethical practices. While a significant majority express a desire to support brands with strong sustainability credentials, economic factors often lead them to choose more affordable options, highlighting a paradox in their consumer behaviour. Social media serves as both a tool for connection and a source of pressure for young people. The rise of platforms like TikTok has changed how Gen Z consumes content, favouring short, engaging formats. However, it also contributes to issues like body image concerns and mental health challenges. BEST MOMENTS "Gen Z are defined by they are born between the ages of 1998 and 2004... it's a very wide spanning generation." Ep 483Stop OPERATING Your Business And Start OWNING IT!

Jeannette discusses the crucial transition from being a business operator to becoming a true business owner, outlining the mindset shifts necessary for this transformation, and emphasising the importance of letting go of control and empowering teams. She covers key steps to facilitate this change, including defining a compelling vision, establishing systems and processes that allow the business to run independently, and building a high-performing team KEY TAKEAWAYS Transitioning from being a business operator to a business owner requires a significant mindset change. It's essential to recognise the need to let go of control and embrace the idea of empowering your team to manage day-to-day operations. Clearly articulate your reasons for wanting to step back from daily operations. A compelling vision—whether it's for more free time, pursuing new business interests, or addressing personal health—will motivate you to take the necessary actions. To ensure your business can run without you, implement robust systems and processes. This includes automation, efficient workflows, and performance tracking through KPIs, which will provide the confidence needed to step away. Develop a capable team and identify a successor to take over your role. Effective delegation and a well-structured organisation are crucial for a smooth transition and to ensure the business continues to thrive in your absence. BEST MOMENTS "If you are in the day-to-day running your business, then you are an operator and not an owner." "You need to be like a helicopter in business... hovering above the horizon, looking out, setting the strategy." "Stop being a control freak. You are never going to be able to set yourself free from the day-to-day operations of the business." "You need to set your business up so that it runs without you in it." Ep 482Eleanor Mills from the BBC to Why Midlife is a Transformation not a Crisis

Jeannette is joined by Eleanor Mills, bestselling Harper Collins author of 'Much More to Come' and founder of Noon, a community dedicated to empowering women in midlife. Eleanor shares her personal journey of transformation after leaving her long-standing role at The Sunday Times, discussing the challenges and opportunities that arise during midlife. The discussion also delves into the concept of midlife as a chrysalis rather than a crisis, emphasising the importance of self-discovery, authenticity, and the power of community. KEY TAKEAWAYS The concept of midlife should be viewed not as a crisis but as a transformative period, where individuals can shed old identities and emerge as their true selves, embracing new opportunities and possibilities. Building a supportive community, like the Noon Circle, is essential for women navigating midlife transitions. Sharing experiences and stories in a safe space fosters connection and encourages personal growth. Taking the first step to engage with new experiences, whether through retreats or community gatherings, can be daunting but is crucial for rebuilding confidence and discovering one's voice. Acknowledging that you are enough as you are, without the need for external validation or societal standards, is a powerful step towards self-empowerment and authenticity. BEST MOMENTS "What we see with the women in the community is this sense of a huge shift into purpose... you really haven't got so much time to kind of waste or to kind of mess around with." "I think that when we really speak up and we say what we really mean and we're not afraid, that is what can change the world." Ep 481Do You Want Financial Freedom? It's Time To Multiply

Jeannette discusses the importance of achieving financial freedom through the establishment of multiple streams of income. Drawing from her extensive experience as a corporate CEO and entrepreneur, she emphasises the need to diversify income sources to mitigate financial risks and adapt to changing circumstances. KEY TAKEAWAYS Having multiple streams of income is crucial for financial freedom and risk diversification. Relying on a single source of income can be risky, as it leaves you vulnerable to financial instability. Before diversifying your income, it's essential to understand your current financial situation, including income, expenses, and savings. This assessment will help you identify areas for improvement and potential new income streams. Define your short-term, mid-term, and long-term financial goals. Knowing where you want to be financially will guide your decisions on which income streams to pursue. Begin with one main source of income and gradually explore additional opportunities. This could involve side hustles, investments, or expanding your current business offerings. BEST MOMENTS "I am all about helping other people fulfill their dreams, live their best life, do what they really want to do." Ep 480From Accidental Entrepreneur to CEO: Carlos Bras' Journey in the Travel Industry

Jeannette is joined by the marvellous Carlos Bras, the CEO and co-founder of On Travel Solutions, as they discuss his unexpected journey into the travel industry. Carlos shares his early entrepreneurial experiences, including running a family grocery store at a young age and his transition from academia to hospitality. He reflects on the evolution of his business since its inception in 2009, navigating challenges such as the impact of COVID-19 and the importance of building strong relationships in the industry. The conversation also delves into the significance of intuition in identifying opportunities, the value of teamwork, and the lessons learned from both successes and setbacks KEY TAKEAWAYS The journey into entrepreneurship often involves seizing unexpected opportunities. It's important to trust your instincts and assess whether an opportunity aligns with your passions and values. Building strong relationships is crucial in the travel and hospitality industry. Trust and communication with clients, suppliers, and team members can significantly impact business success. The travel industry is constantly evolving due to technological advancements and changing customer needs. Being adaptable and responsive to these changes is essential for long-term success. Surrounding yourself with a supportive team can alleviate the loneliness often felt by entrepreneurs. Sharing responsibilities and discussing challenges with trusted colleagues or friends can provide valuable perspectives and reduce stress. BEST MOMENTS "The tourism was really an accident, it was not something that I could predict. It was something that came to me, like the majority of the things in my life. Not planned, not programmed." "It's not easy being a business owner. You're taking risks. You're investing your own money. It feels totally different." "I think I started to learn with time how to identify things. But basically, it doesn't come from the brain. It comes from the stomach." "The most important asset on a DMC, on incoming service, is the team. We need really to build up a good team, to back them up, to help them." Ep 479Busting the Myths around AI!

Jeannette tackles common myths surrounding artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on the business landscape. She emphasises that while AI will change the nature of work, it will not replace all jobs; instead, it will create new roles and enhance human capabilities. Jeannette also debunks ten prevalent misconceptions about AI, such as its infallibility and the belief that it is only for large companies. KEY TAKEAWAYS While AI will change the nature of work, it will not eliminate all jobs. Instead, it will create new roles and foster a hybrid work environment where humans and AI collaborate. AI's Accuracy Depends on Data: AI is only as accurate as the data it processes. It is essential for humans to oversee and input data to ensure AI's effectiveness. Although AI can analyse data and generate ideas, it does not possess emotions or the ability to think creatively like humans. AI is not just for large corporations; small and medium-sized businesses can also benefit significantly from AI tools to streamline processes and enhance efficiency. BEST MOMENTS "AI is going to replace all jobs... the truth is that with the use of technology, actually, the world of work will change." "AI is only as accurate as the data that has been put into it. It is not going to be 100% accurate." "AI can analyse data fantastically well, but it lacks emotion. So it will never be able to have human-like intelligence exactly." "AI is perfect for small and medium-sized businesses, as well as large organisations." This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 478Transforming Adversity into Purpose: Rick Jordan's Personal and Professional Growth After Loss

Jeannette is joined by the remarkable Rick Jordan, a pioneering entrepreneur and cybersecurity expert. Rick shares his journey of founding ReachOut Technology and taking it public, detailing the challenges and resilience required throughout the process. He discusses the significance of cybersecurity for businesses of all sizes and emphasises the importance of bridging the gap between enterprise-level protection and small business needs. The episode also touches on Rick's experience advising the White House on innovative technology to combat human trafficking, highlighting the intersection of technology and human issues KEY TAKEAWAYS The journey of taking a business public is often grueling and emotionally taxing, requiring significant resilience and adaptability. Plans may change, but a clear purpose can guide entrepreneurs through challenges. There is a significant gap in cybersecurity services between large enterprises and small businesses. The goal is to make cybersecurity accessible and affordable for all businesses, ensuring that even small companies can protect themselves against cyber threats. Establishing a strong presence on social media and in the media requires both genuine engagement and strategic investments. Sponsorships, collaborations, and paid exposure can significantly enhance visibility and credibility. Failure or setbacks, such as not securing a deal with the government, can provide valuable lessons and open new doors. Embracing these experiences as learning opportunities is crucial for personal and professional growth. BEST MOMENTS "If you're not keeping track of how you're doing, there's no way to potentially win." "Going through it is gruelling. It is very emotionally taxing. It is very much a test of your own resilience." "It's not a matter of if, it's when... there's no completely secure way of protecting something 100%." "I want to help. I see people who are... probably because of some decisions that they made." This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 477How to Create a Positive Work Environment

Jeannette shares valuable insights on creating a positive environment for teams to flourish and thrive. She outlines five key areas essential for fostering a productive workplace culture, including establishing a clear purpose and strategy, defining core values and behaviours, optimising the physical work environment, ensuring the right people are in the right roles, and reflecting on one's leadership style. KEY TAKEAWAYS Establish a crystal clear purpose and strategy for your business. This clarity helps the entire team feel inspired and aligned, making it easier to work towards common goals. Define and communicate the core values and behaviours that shape your business culture. Engage your team in discussions about these values to ensure everyone is on the same page and can embody them in their work. Assess and improve the physical workspace to create a welcoming and conducive environment for creativity and productivity. Consider aspects like breakout areas, wellness facilities, and overall aesthetics to enhance employee morale. Ensure that you have the right people on your team who share the organisation's vision and values. Focus on recruitment, development, and creating a supportive team environment where everyone can thrive. BEST MOMENTS "If you have an absolute crystal clear purpose and reason for being, then actually that's something that the whole team can get excited about." "Creating that right culture is very much around the values, the behaviours, and getting that buy-in from everyone on the team." "We are products of our environment. If the office isn't really very welcoming, you're not providing... wellness aspects, then you're going to struggle to get people back in." "A winning team has each other's backs. Ep 476Transforming Challenges into Opportunities: The Inspiring Journeys of Female Veterans

Jeannette is joined by Ria Jackson, Louisa Clarke, Jennifer Lothian and Charlotte Hayes, who share their unique journeys and the impactful work they are doing to support fellow veterans and promote inclusivity. Ria discusses her founding of the V Word community for women veterans, emphasising the need for a safe space to share experiences and empower one another. Louisa reflects on her transition from a successful career in the Royal Air Force to becoming a managing director in facilities management, highlighting the importance of self-belief and resilience. Charlotte shares her recent pivot into the nuclear energy sector and her passion for encouraging young girls to pursue careers in STEM through her initiative, STEMinists UK. Jennifer, a finance pioneer, talks about her mission with MyArk to revolutionise financial literacy and empower individuals with the tools to manage their finances effectively KEY TAKEAWAYS Women's experiences and perspectives differ from their male counterparts in business. The V Word community was created to provide a safe space for women to share their unique stories and support one another. We must have self-belief and resilience. Having confidence in one's abilities and recognising transferable skills from military service are crucial for success in the civilian workforce. There is an ongoing process of transition when going from the service into business, and we must keep one eye on the importance of finding a new identity and purpose in civilian life. MyArk aims to revolutionise financial management through data consolidation. There is an unfortunate lack of financial literacy among many individuals, particularly in the military, and there is a need for accessible tools to help people make informed financial decisions. Ria's experiences with ADHD led her to create Inclusive Minds UK. The goal is to promote understanding and support for individuals with neurodifferences, ensuring that organisations embrace diverse brain types and create equitable environments. BEST MOMENTS "The V Word for us was a safe space for us to talk and have a place to share our stories, but also to show how incredible we are." "I think we all have a responsibility to ourselves as well to have faith in ourselves." "Transition takes a long time, and I'm not transitioned yet. I'm still transitioning." "Without the right information, it's very hard to make the right decisions." "We wanted to change that narrative a little bit and come across that way as well." Ep 475How Do I Know If My Team Are High-Performing Or Not?

Jeannette examines the essential elements of a high-performing team, emphasising the critical role team dynamics play in business success. With over 30 years of experience in leading teams across various sectors, she outlines six key characteristics needed for a team to achieve high performance. KEY TAKEAWAYS A high-performing team is defined by six key characteristics: aligned purpose, accepted leadership, defined roles and responsibilities, effective systems and processes, strong relationships, and streamlined communication. Having a clear and aligned purpose is crucial for team cohesion and motivation. Understanding why the team exists and how they serve customers can drive engagement and performance. Clearly defined roles and responsibilities are essential to avoid confusion and ensure that every team member knows their contribution to the team's success. Tools like a RACI matrix can help clarify these roles. Establishing clear Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) is vital for assessing both individual and team performance. A balanced scorecard approach should include financial, operational, commercial, and non-financial metrics. BEST MOMENTS "A winning team wins together or not at all, right? Remember that because otherwise you're just a collection of individuals." "If you know what you stand for as a business, as a team, you are much more likely to get to where you want to get to." "You cannot be a high-performing team if there is ambiguity around roles and responsibilities." "What gets measured gets done. And I believe the KPIs, what are your KPIs?" Ep 474Kate Nicholls OBE - Driving Travel & Hospitality to Achieve 10% of All Jobs in the World

Jeannette is joined by the one and only Kate Nicholls OBE - CEO of UKHospitality, who shares her journey through the dynamic world of travel, tourism, and leisure, highlighting the significant opportunities and challenges facing the hospitality sector today. With a focus on social mobility and the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion, Kate discusses her various roles, including her work as a disability ambassador and menopause champion, reflecting on the impact of COVID-19 and Brexit on the industry, and emphasising the need for effective communication and collaboration with government entities. KEY TAKEAWAYS The hospitality industry is characterised by its dynamism, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit, allowing businesses to adapt and reinvent themselves in response to challenges, such as those faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. The sector offers significant opportunities for social mobility, enabling individuals with no prior experience or qualifications to quickly advance to management positions through training and investment in their development. Hospitality encompasses a wide variety of businesses, from independent coffee shops to large hotel chains, making it a vital part of the community and economy, contributing significantly to employment and tax revenue. Effective leadership in the hospitality sector involves actively listening to the concerns of both small and large businesses, understanding their common challenges, and articulating these needs to government and media to advocate for necessary changes. BEST MOMENTS "The sector is so dynamic, so innovative, that it always works hard. The people within it always look at how can they make the best of a bad situation." "You can't be what you can't see. If you don't have that, or if you have something that doesn't show where you can go, that's quite difficult." "I always say I've got the best job in UK PLC because I've got that diversity and breadth." "I knew I'd got my sector through it. I knew I'd got the people, the teams." "It's about relationships. Ep 473Get Comfortable With Being Uncomfortable

Jeannette explores the transformative power of stepping outside your comfort zone. She emphasises that true growth often comes from embracing discomfort and facing challenges head-on. She shares practical tips for getting comfortable with being uncomfortable, including the importance of having a compelling reason why, visualising success, and taking small, manageable steps. KEY TAKEAWAYS Getting comfortable with being uncomfortable is essential for personal and professional growth. Stepping out of your comfort zone allows you to unlock your true potential and achieve amazing results. Having a strong reason for your actions can motivate you to push through tough times. Reflect on what drives you, whether it's financial freedom, leaving a legacy, or helping others. Instead of focusing on potential failures, imagine the positive outcomes of your efforts. Ask yourself, "What if I succeed?" This mindset can help you overcome fear and take action. Break down your goals into manageable, bite-sized actions. Starting small can help you build momentum and make progress without feeling overwhelmed. BEST MOMENTS "Get comfortable being uncomfortable. The reality is, if you are in your comfort zone and you're playing it safe, you may not be fulfilling your true potential." "If you're the kind of person that can get your head around that and realise that it is uncomfortable situations where we're going to grow, then that is going to really give you the building block." "What's the worst that can happen? If I mess up or I don't get it right, then so what? I just come back." "Start now, get perfect later. The power of incremental gains, right? Ep 472Don Welsh, CEO Destinations International - Breaking down Borders on the Road to Global Growth

Jeannette is joined by Don Welsh, the CEO and President of Destinations International. They explore the evolution of the travel and tourism industry, discussing how Destinations International has expanded from a U.S.-centric organisation to serving over 760 destination organisations in 31 countries. Don shares insights into the challenges of cultural diversity in global business, the importance of collaboration within the tourism ecosystem, and the pressing issues of over-tourism and sustainability. He also reflects on his own career journey, emphasising the value of authenticity, the importance of aligning personal values with professional opportunities, and the necessity of embracing failure as a part of growth. KEY TAKEAWAYS The transition from a U.S.-centric organisation to one that operates in over 31 countries highlights the importance of understanding and adapting to diverse cultural needs and business practices. Building strong relationships within the industry is crucial. Collaborating with other organisations, such as the World Travel and Tourism Council, enhances the ability to address common challenges and share best practices. The need for alignment between destination organisations, local communities, and political leaders is essential for sustainable tourism. Engaging stakeholders in discussions about responsible tourism can help mitigate issues like over-tourism. The journey through various roles in the travel and hospitality industry emphasises the importance of being open to learning and adapting to new challenges, which can lead to personal and professional growth. BEST MOMENTS "The complexity of these jobs have never been greater... how you're going to convene a group of people to deal with maybe over tourism or responsible or sustainable tourism." "I think when you work with different cultures, you have a much higher sense of emotional intelligence because if you want to succeed in different parts of the world, you cannot go in and expect to do business in the way that we do in the U.S." "We believe in the point of collaboration... at the end of the day, our focus is 100% on how the destination can do the best in serving, whether it's a leisure guest, a meeting attendee, or whatever it may be." "It's OK to question yourself. It's OK to say, how did I come across in that meeting? How did I deal with a colleague?" "Let's not reinvent the wheel. Let's learn from each other and grow together." Ep 471How to Set Goals You'll Actually Achieve in 2025

Jeannette looks at the art of setting achievable goals for 2025. Emphasising the importance of transforming dreams into actionable plans, she covers a structured approach to goal-setting that includes reflecting on one's big picture vision, engaging in self-reflection, and establishing clear, measurable objectives. KEY TAKEAWAYS Focus on establishing specific, actionable goals rather than vague New Year's resolutions. This approach increases the likelihood of achieving desired outcomes. Utilise a yearly goal planner to outline your big picture vision, engage in self-reflection, and set concrete goals and objectives for the year ahead. Self-reflection is crucial for personal growth. Assess your strengths, values, and past performance to inform your future goals and ensure they align with who you are. Consider various aspects of life when setting goals, including personal development, health and fitness, financial objectives, and giving back to the community. BEST MOMENTS "Dreams, if they're not backed up with goals and super important action, then they are just dreams." "You cannot drive a car by looking through the rearview mirror. However, we can most definitely learn from our past experiences that will help catapult us forward into the future." "What are your giving goals? Every single one of us can give... sometimes it doesn't even cost you any money." "You have to take the action, to take massive action. Even if it's baby steps, that's fine, but take the action." Ep 470Vivienne Artz OBE, CEO FTSE Women Leaders Review - How to Shift the Gender Equality Dial and Get More Women on Boards

Jeannette is joined by the one and only Vivienne Artz OBE, the CEO of the FTSE Women Leaders Review, to discuss her remarkable journey in the financial sector and her passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Vivienne shares her experiences, including overcoming impostor syndrome and the challenges she faced in her career, such as navigating a male-dominated environment and the importance of mentorship and sponsorship. She also highlights the significance of data in driving change within organisations and the need for structural adjustments to create equitable opportunities for women in leadership roles. KEY TAKEAWAYS It's important to be open to opportunities and not wait to be tapped on the shoulder. Taking initiative and applying for roles, even if you feel underqualified, can lead to unexpected successes. Data plays a crucial role in understanding and addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in organisations. It can reveal insights about performance and representation that may not be immediately apparent. Challenges and setbacks are common in any career. Learning from difficult experiences and surrounding yourself with a supportive network can help you bounce back and grow stronger. Effective leadership is characterised by inclusivity, where diverse voices are heard and respected. This not only benefits the organisation but also creates a more collaborative and dynamic work environment. It's essential to recognise when to let go of certain roles or projects to make space for new opportunities. Renewing focus and passion for your work can lead to greater fulfilment and success in your career. BEST MOMENTS "When the door closes, look for all the open windows" "Imposter syndrome is a reality, but it's one that you can let take hold and define who you are, or you can say, well, you know what, that is." "What we really need are more women as executive directors, and we need more women as CEOs and CFOs at the leadership level." Ep 469Reflections And Lessons Learned From 2024

Jeannette reflects on the past year, focusing upon the importance of self-assessment as we approach the new year. Dividing her reflections into three key pillars — leading yourself, leading the business, and leading teams — she shares personal challenges, including health issues and family matters, and highlights the significance of self-care and gratitude during tough times. KEY TAKEAWAYS It's important to take time to reflect on the past year, focusing on personal leadership, business achievements, and team dynamics. This reflection can help identify areas for improvement and set a positive tone for the upcoming year. During challenging times, focusing on self-care is crucial. Establishing a routine that includes exercise, mindfulness, and gratitude can help maintain a sense of calm and resilience. Focusing on small, incremental improvements (the "1% better" philosophy) can lead to significant progress over time. This approach can be applied to various aspects of business and personal development. Surrounding oneself with the right people is essential for success. It's important to recruit individuals who share similar values and are committed to achieving collective goals, while also being willing to make tough decisions when team dynamics don't align. BEST MOMENTS "Reflecting on the year that's passed allows me to think about what's gone well and what can I do to propel myself forward into the next year." "When things are difficult, it's even more important to focus on putting your own oxygen mask on first." "The power of the 1% is where the gains can really come; it's about getting 1% better every single day." "It's important that you have the right people on your team, those that share the same values as you." "I genuinely believe that the best is yet to come; there are no limits to your growth." Ep 468VistaTalks Podcast with Simon Hodgkins - Jeannette on Navigating Global Business

Jeannette presents her empowering appearance on the VistaTalks podcast hosted by Simon Hodgkins, in which she shares her journey from leading major organisations like Saga and TUI to establishing her own portfolio of businesses. Jeannette looks at the challenges and strategies for scaling businesses in today's complex environment, emphasising the importance of being brave, bold, and brilliant, and discussing the significance of understanding local markets during international expansion, the role of technology and AI in driving innovation, and the necessity of maintaining a balance between core offerings and new ventures KEY TAKEAWAYS Success in leadership involves three key elements: being brave (leading oneself and investing in personal development), being bold (having a clear strategy and investment case), and being brilliant (creating high-performing teams). When expanding internationally, businesses should think globally but act locally. Understanding cultural nuances, local market conditions, and customer preferences is crucial for success. Effective internal and external communication is vital for global organisations. This includes consistent messaging across different regions, utilising translators, and being aware of cultural norms to foster successful relationships. Businesses need to stay informed about technological advancements, particularly AI, and find a balance between leveraging technology for efficiency while maintaining a strong human element in customer interactions. Incremental improvements in core metrics can lead to significant overall success. BEST MOMENTS "I think when it comes to international expansion, it's really important to think global, but act local." "The biggest mistake that I see with large international corporates is thinking they can enter a market and apply the same way of doing business as they do in a Western developed world." "I always believe that there are three elements to success: brave, bold, and brilliant." This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 467The 3 Power Rs - Relax, Reflect, Respond

Jeannette discusses the importance of reflecting with purpose as the year comes to a close, introducing a structured approach known as the "three R's": Relax, Reflect, and Respond. She emphasises the need to take time to relax and recharge during the busy holiday season, reminding you that work does not define who you are. KEY TAKEAWAYS The process of reflection can be broken down into three stages: Relax, Reflect, and Respond. These stages help in preparing for the upcoming year. Taking time to relax and spend quality moments with loved ones is crucial, especially during the busy end-of-year period. It’s essential to remember that work is what we do, not who we are. When reflecting on the past year, it’s important to consider both successes and areas for improvement. Writing down thoughts and feelings can help create a balanced view of achievements and challenges. After reflecting, it’s vital to create a plan for the upcoming year. Setting realistic goals and breaking them down into actionable steps increases the likelihood of success. Goals should encompass various aspects of life, including personal development, fitness, relationships, and financial objectives. A well-rounded approach to goal setting can lead to a more fulfilling year ahead. BEST MOMENTS "It's important that we remind ourselves that business and jobs... it's what we do, it's not who we are." "When you're reflecting, think about those two sides of the positives and let's say the areas that didn't go so well." "New Year's resolutions don't always have a great track record of success because normally they can be too ambitious." "Cut yourself some slack and accept how great you've done, no matter how big or how small." "Remember those three R's will unlock your three B's of brave, bold and brilliant." Ep 466Dr Kameel Khan, Founder of Project Remake - The Judge Giving Ex-Offenders a 2nd Chance

Jeannette is joined by Dr Kameel Khan,a lawyer, judge, and founder of Project Remake, about his inspiring journey from Trinidad to the UK and his commitment to social justice. Kameel shares his early influences, including the civil unrest in Trinidad and the impact of his parents' belief in education. He also discusses his experiences defending death row inmates and the complexities of the justice system, highlighting the importance of understanding the human stories behind offenders. KEY TAKEAWAYS The journey into law and social justice was significantly influenced by early education and the support of family, highlighting the role of encouragement and vision in shaping one's future. Understanding the personal stories and backgrounds of offenders is crucial. They are not just statistics; they are individuals with families and potential who deserve a second chance. Project Remake, which started at Stanford University, focuses on entrepreneurship training for formerly incarcerated individuals, achieving a remarkable 6% reoffending rate compared to the national average of 54%. The financial burden of incarceration is significant, with costs reaching £50,000 per year per inmate. Investing in rehabilitation and employment opportunities for ex-offenders can lead to better societal outcomes and reduced costs. BEST MOMENTS "We have had 120 graduates, and we have had a 6% reoffending rate... The national average is near 54% in the first year and 70% in the second year." "We want to live in a society that doesn't write people off, that gives people a second chance." "How do we break that sort of aspect of judgment around this whole topic? Because I think that's a really big blocker as well, the perception." "It's very interesting... finding your voice is a huge thing... realising you could only be you, everyone else is taken." Ep 465Giving Back With Purpose And Impact

Jeannette discusses the importance of giving back with impact and purpose, especially during the end-of-year season. She stresses that everyone, regardless of their role—be it a solopreneur, student, or corporate leader—can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. She also highlights various ways to contribute, beyond just financial donations, such as volunteering time, mentoring, and supporting local or international initiatives. KEY TAKEAWAYS Giving back is essential not only for helping others but also for personal growth and fostering a sense of community. It allows individuals and businesses to align their values with meaningful actions. Contributions don't have to be financial. Time, knowledge, and experience can be just as valuable. Mentoring, volunteering, and sharing expertise are effective ways to make a difference. Just as individuals set financial or career goals, it's important to establish giving goals. Reflecting on how to help others can lead to a more fulfilling and impactful life. In a business context, involving teams in charitable activities can enhance camaraderie and morale. Organising fundraising events or giving team members time off to volunteer can strengthen bonds and create a positive work environment. BEST MOMENTS "It's so important that we do [give back], especially at this time of year, to think about how you can help other people in a meaningful way with impact." "When you actually do give back and support other people, you grow as a person through that process." "Every single one of us can actually give back in a meaningful way." "It doesn't all have to cost money... your time is the most precious thing that you have." Ep 464Finding Strength in Adversity: Ollie Thorn's Inspiring Story of Recovery and Empowerment

Jeannette is joined by Ollie Thorn, a public speaker, coach, and motivational mentor, to discuss his extraordinary journey following a life-altering motorcycle accident. At just 23 years old, Ollie faced the unimaginable after breaking over 40 bones and suffering a spinal cord injury. He shares the harrowing details of his recovery, the emotional challenges he encountered, and how he ultimately transformed his adversity into a powerful purpose. Ollie also discusses the importance of resilience, gratitude, and the need for society to shift its perception of disability KEY TAKEAWAYS The journey through a life-altering accident highlights the importance of resilience. Despite facing significant challenges, the ability to keep moving forward and finding purpose is crucial. After experiencing a traumatic event, it's essential to rediscover one's identity. Transitioning from a physically active life to living with a disability requires a shift in perspective and the exploration of new passions, such as adaptive sports. Acknowledging the fragility of life fosters a sense of gratitude. Embracing the small joys and opportunities in life can lead to a more fulfilling existence, even after significant setbacks. The importance of representation and role models in the disability community is emphasised. By sharing experiences and successes, individuals can help change societal perceptions and inspire others facing similar challenges. BEST MOMENTS "I suppose being a young man, I always thought it was never going to happen to me like everyone does. But that loss of identity... my identity was wrapped up in my physicality." "When someone says, 'You're never going to walk again,' it’s so difficult to try and compute the seriousness and the vastness of that." "I realised that I'm not gonna be able to play sport with my mates again. I'm not gonna be able to do things that I've taken for granted." "It's almost seeing the world differently, right? Ep 463Managing Risk - Boring or Essential?

Jeannette looks at the critical topic of risk management in business. Drawing from her extensive experience as a corporate CEO and entrepreneur, she emphasises the importance of having the right tools to navigate risks, regardless of one's appetite for risk. Jeannette outlines four essential tools for managing risk: creating a profit and loss account, developing a risk and opportunities schedule, crafting investment cases, and maintaining a risk register. She encourages you to embrace risk as a natural part of business and to approach it in a structured manner, ensuring you are prepared for both challenges and opportunities. KEY TAKEAWAYS Regardless of whether you are risk-averse or a risk-taker, managing risk is essential in business and life. It's important to have the right tools to make informed judgments about risk. Creating a profit and loss account is crucial for forecasting business performance. It should incorporate potential risks and opportunities, allowing for adjustments as the year progresses. Maintaining a risk and opportunity schedule helps identify potential risks and opportunities that may not be certain enough to include in the profit and loss account. This proactive approach allows for better preparedness when these factors materialise. When considering investments, it's vital to develop a detailed investment case that includes an analysis of associated risks and opportunities. This is especially important for significant investments that require board approval. BEST MOMENTS "Regardless of whether you have an appetite for risk, you need to have the right tools in place to make judgments when it comes to risk." "When you walk out of the door in the morning, there's risk that you might actually be run over by a bus. Let's hope not. But there is always a risk." "A risk and opportunity schedule allows you to have that visibility up front, equipping you to deal with them as they come up." "If you don't risk anything, you risk everything, right? Because otherwise, you're in your comfort zone, you're not pushing forward." This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 462From Music to Real Estate: Ron Rosenblum CEO Canvas Journey of Creativity and Entrepreneurship

Jeannette is joined by Ron Rosenblum, the co-founder and CEO of Canvas Offices, who shares his unique journey from the music industry to the world of real estate and serviced office spaces. He discusses the evolution of his business, which began in 2013 with a focus on creating bespoke office environments that foster creativity and collaboration. Ron also talks about the importance of listening to clients and personalising services to enhance their experience. The conversation also delves into the challenges faced during the pandemic, the changing landscape of work, and the significance of building a strong company culture. KEY TAKEAWAYS The transition from the music industry to real estate highlights the importance of being open to new opportunities and adapting to changing circumstances. The ability to pivot and find new paths can lead to unexpected success. Creating a personalised and welcoming environment for clients is crucial. By listening to their needs and allowing them to contribute to the creation of their workspace, businesses can foster loyalty and satisfaction. Working with family members or close partners can be beneficial when there is a foundation of trust. This trust allows for smoother collaboration and decision-making, which is essential for business success. The pandemic has shifted the perception of office spaces from mere work environments to social and collaborative hubs. Businesses must create spaces that balance privacy and community to meet the evolving needs of employees. BEST MOMENTS "The true love of what we do is to host people, to welcome people, and to let them feel at home really more than anything else." "If you want people to feel at home, you need to let them be part of its creation." "I think the biggest part that I believe that the office takes place in our society is almost like it's a social place for people." "Life is never a straight path, is it?" Ep 461Wearing Multiple Hats in Your Small Business

Jeannette addresses the challenges faced by small business owners, particularly those just starting out or transitioning from the corporate world. She shares eight key steps that can help entrepreneurs navigate the early stages of their business journey, emphasising the importance of having a clear plan, serving existing clients, leveraging resources, and utilising technology. KEY TAKEAWAYS It's crucial for small business owners to create a high-level plan outlining their goals, target audience, and financial expectations. This helps in navigating the early stages of business and reduces surprises. Prioritise serving your current clients exceptionally well, as their satisfaction can lead to referrals and positive word-of-mouth, which is vital for business growth, especially in the early days. Learn to use leverage effectively by outsourcing tasks that can free up your time. This allows you to focus on core business activities and growth rather than getting bogged down by administrative duties. Take advantage of affordable technology tools, like scheduling software, to streamline operations and improve efficiency. This can help you manage your time better and reduce manual tasks. BEST MOMENTS "If you're a small business owner, as an entrepreneur, have a plan, get it out of your head and down on paper." "You must serve your existing clients. Even if you only have one client, you must serve them well." "Learn the power of leverage; how can you get the maximum output when you are strapped for cash?" "Your first employee should be, in my opinion, a virtual assistant." This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 460Jennifer Grace, Miami’s Number 1 Life Coach & TEDx Speaker - Mindfulness & Transforming Challenges into Opportunities

Jeannette is joined by the fabulous Jennifer Grace to discuss her inspiring journey from a vibrant childhood filled with dance to becoming Miami's number one life coach, motivational speaker, and author. Jennifer talks about her unique approach to coaching, emphasising the importance of helping others recognise their own potential while navigating challenges like imposter syndrome. She also reflects on her experiences working with celebrities and female entrepreneurs, highlighting the different dynamics they face. KEY TAKEAWAYS Mindset is about choosing how to view situations, whether from a limited or growth perspective. Neutralising events allows individuals to detach from emotional responses and choose a more empowering viewpoint. Imposter syndrome affects people across all demographics, regardless of success. Normalising it and helping individuals recognise their achievements can shift their perspective and reduce its impact. It's essential to celebrate milestones and successes, no matter how small. This practice helps individuals appreciate their journey and prevents them from constantly moving the goalposts without acknowledging their accomplishments. The launch of a hybrid publishing company addresses the challenges authors face in traditional publishing. This model offers a transparent, supportive alternative that allows authors to retain a larger share of their profits while receiving necessary guidance and resources. BEST MOMENTS "I think the first thing I always try to do is normalise imposter syndrome, making people feel like, okay, there's not something wrong with me because I'm feeling this way." "The beauty is we get to choose. Are you going to have a limited mindset or a growth mindset?" "I think part of retreat needs to celebrate and have fun. People take sometimes this work way too seriously." "I had a complete breakdown with my own child... Ep 459Unlocking Potential: A Deep Dive into Human Behaviour with Allan Kleynhans - Part 2

Jeannette is joined by Allan Kleynhans, an incredible coach, motivational speaker and Tony Robbins trainer, for the second in a two-part conversation - this time discussing the critical topic of employee engagement and the emerging trend of "quiet quitting." They discuss the importance of fostering a motivated and committed workforce, emphasising that disengaged employees can be detrimental to both individual and organisational success. The conversation highlights effective strategies for addressing disengagement, including the significance of hiring the right people and creating a supportive work environment. KEY TAKEAWAYS Engaged teams and employees are crucial for achieving business success. Disengagement, often exemplified by "quiet quitting," can be detrimental to both individuals and organisations. The interview process should focus on finding candidates with the right attitude rather than just skills. Questions about personal interests, such as the last five books read, can reveal a candidate's mindset and potential fit within the company culture. Companies that foster emotional investment and psychological safety among employees tend to thrive. Encouraging open communication and sharing personal challenges can enhance team dynamics and overall morale. Individuals must prioritise their well-being to bring their best selves to work. Engaging in practices like meditation, exercise, and personal reflection can help maintain energy levels and prevent burnout. BEST MOMENTS "When you've got an engaged team... that's when you really can get motivated and get results." "You can't train attitude. It's impossible. You can hire attitude, but you can train skill." "If you don't like where you are right now, you have to ask yourself what decisions you made a year ago." Ep 458Unlocking Potential: A Deep Dive into Human Behaviour with Allan Kleynhans - Part 1

Jeannette is joined for the first in a two-part conversation, by Allan Kleynhans, for a thought-provoking discussion on human behaviour and personal development. With over 36 years of studying the human condition, Allan shares insights on unlocking potential, the importance of self-awareness, and the power of conscious decision-making. They explore the significance of creating a calm and present mindset, especially in today's fast-paced world filled with distractions, and examine the challenges of communication, the necessity of understanding oneself, and the value of nurturing relationships. KEY TAKEAWAYS Becoming aware of one's thoughts and feelings is crucial for personal growth. By actively listening to oneself and questioning the origins of thoughts, individuals can make more conscious decisions and break free from negative thought patterns. Taking time for silence and self-reflection is essential for mental clarity and emotional well-being. Establishing a routine that includes quiet time can lead to greater calmness, focus, and a deeper understanding of one's purpose. Effective communication is vital for building relationships and achieving goals. Listening to understand, rather than just to respond, fosters better connections and ensures that messages are conveyed clearly. Engaging with literature enhances communication skills and broadens perspectives. Reading not only improves vocabulary and grammar but also stimulates imagination and critical thinking. BEST MOMENTS "The thing I'm most proud of is the fact that I've been studying for 36 years... Why do we suffer? Why do we spend so much time in pain?" "When you become conscious about that process in your mind, you can start to trace those thought processes back." "Communication is the response you get." Ep 457COP29 Insights: How Adventure Sports Inspire a New Generation of Environmentalists

Jeannette is joined by Amber Nuttall and Alistair Gosling all the way from COP29 in Azerbaijan to discuss their journey from launching the Extreme Sports channel to evolving their business into a platform focused on adventure, sustainability, and community engagement. Alistair shares insights on the entrepreneurial spirit driving change in the environmental sector, while Amber highlights the importance of amplifying diverse voices at COP29. KEY TAKEAWAYS The current emphasis is on environmental sustainability, with a strong belief that everyone can contribute to positive change. The goal is to inspire a broad audience to take action, highlighting the importance of collaboration and the need for "8 billion imperfect environmentalists." At COP29, the primary focus is on finance and the need for substantial investment in sustainability initiatives. The discussions aim to encourage governments to make impactful decisions that will shape the future of environmental efforts. There is a growing trend of entrepreneurs and innovative companies stepping up to address environmental challenges. Examples include sustainable brands gaining traction and initiatives like the Earthshot Prize recognising impactful organisations. We should encourage individuals and organisations to embrace bravery, boldness, and brilliance in their efforts to create a sustainable future, while also recognising the need for balance in addressing both climate and technological advancements. BEST MOMENTS "We inspired a good few million people around the world to go and get active, drive health, fitness, well-being through getting into adventure and extreme sports." "We need 8 billion imperfect environmentalists in the world today. We don't need a handful of perfect ones." "What I'm loving seeing is the entrepreneurial spirit shining through where entrepreneurs are taking advantage and really drilling into opportunities to change the dial." "It's very clear. It's finance. It's all about finance this year... we can only hope that our governments come together and make the right decisions around that." Ep 456Alice Morrison, TV Presenter & Intrepid Adventurer - Throwing Away Societal Norms to Be Her Authentic Self

Jeannette is joined by TV presenter and adventurer, Alice Morrison, who shares her remarkable journey from a conventional career as a chief executive to embarking on thrilling adventures, including cycling across Africa and exploring the hidden histories of the Nabataean civilisation in her new TV series, "Arabian Adventures." Jeannette and Alice explore the catalysts for change in Alice's life, her experiences with self-discovery, and the importance of living authentically KEY TAKEAWAYS Life can take unexpected turns, and it's essential to adapt and find new paths. The journey from a conventional career to adventurous pursuits can lead to personal growth and fulfilment. Engaging in physically challenging activities can help reset your mindset, allowing you to focus on the present moment rather than getting lost in worries about the future. It's crucial to understand that your identity is not defined by societal expectations or roles. Embracing your true self and making choices that align with your values is more important than seeking external validation. Negative feedback is a part of life, but it's essential to not let it deter you. Understanding that others' opinions are often reflections of their own experiences can help you maintain your confidence and focus on your goals. BEST MOMENTS "I think really the physical side of it, in a way, is a servant to the exploration side of it." "It's a really interesting time for you to be doing this because of... creating a diverse, equitable part of the world, which is coming from quite a dark place." "What someone else thinks of you is none of your business." "If you keep walking, you'll get to your destination. And it's the same in life." Ep 455Overcoming the Fear of Public Speaking

Jeannette tackles the often daunting topic of public speaking, exploring the common fears and blockers that many individuals face when it comes to sharing their message with the world, and emphasising the importance of mindset and preparation. KEY TAKEAWAYS Your mindset is crucial when it comes to public speaking. Believing in your ability to deliver a message can significantly impact your performance. Remember the quote: "Those who think they can and those who think they can't are both usually right." Being organised and well-prepared is essential. This includes knowing your topic, practicing your speech, and ensuring all technical aspects (like audio and slides) are in order before you take the stage. Consistent practice helps build confidence. It's important to rehearse your speech multiple times, ideally in front of a mirror or with a trusted friend, to become comfortable with the material and delivery. Perfection is not the goal; being authentic and human can resonate more with your audience. Accept that nerves are normal and can be channeled positively to enhance your delivery. BEST MOMENTS "When you actually do put yourself out to the world and you have a message to share, you can do so much good." "Those who think they can and those who think they can't are both usually right." "If you have a message to share with the world, then there is no better way to do that than to actually put yourself out there." "Recognise the fact you stood up there on a stage, you delivered a message, that in itself is a huge achievement." "Feedback is the breakfast of champions. That's how we improve. It's how we grow." Ep 454Suzy Welch - Wife of the Late Great Jack Welch on Resilience, Reinvention & Becoming You

Jeannette talks to the marvellous Suzy Welch, a renowned professor of management at NYU School of Business and a celebrated author, to delve into the complexities of personal and professional reinvention. Suzy shares her unique journey from a creative upbringing in a family of artists to her successful career in business journalism and consulting, highlighting the pivotal moments that shaped her path. She also candidly discusses the challenges of resilience, particularly in the face of loss, and emphasises the importance of forgiveness as a crucial step towards recovery KEY TAKEAWAYS Life often involves unexpected twists and turns, and what may seem like survival in the moment can later be recognised as a process of reinvention and growth. Resilience is not about having grit when you're down; it's about forgiveness—both of yourself and others. True resilience comes from a place of strength, and it requires inner work to move past feelings of weakness and shame. Open and honest communication is crucial in both personal and professional relationships. Speaking the truth, even when it's difficult, fosters respect and can lead to stronger connections. Identifying your values, aptitudes, and interests is essential for discovering your purpose. The intersection of these elements can guide you toward a fulfilling life and help you make decisions that align with your true self. BEST MOMENTS "I think there's no straight lines in most people's lives. I grew up in a family... business was just not part of our life at all." "Resilience is something we have when we're strong. We're at the top of our game... but when you're on your back, all you feel is weak." "It's an act of respect and love to tell the truth. Everyone always prefers the hard truth to a soft lie." "I had to learn that when you're really suffering and really weak, the only way you can get resilience in yourself is to start with a step that I think is just always left out, which is forgiveness." Ep 453How To Lead With Authority And Empathy

Jeannette talks about the essential balance of leading with both authority and empathy, emphasising the importance of creating a positive work environment where teams feel engaged and motivated to drive business results. Jeannette uses the metaphor of a helicopter to illustrate the need for leaders to navigate between strategic oversight and hands-on involvement. KEY TAKEAWAYS Effective leadership requires a combination of authority and empathy. Leaders should be able to make strategic decisions while also being approachable and understanding of their team's needs. Authority comes from having the necessary experience, knowledge, and clarity of purpose. Leaders should ensure their teams understand their roles and responsibilities, and set clear objectives and KPIs to measure success. Authentic leadership involves showing vulnerability and being open about not having all the answers. Sharing personal experiences can foster a more relatable and empathetic leadership style. Understanding and connecting with team members on an emotional level is crucial. Leaders should seek feedback to improve their emotional intelligence and ensure they are listening and responding to their team's needs. BEST MOMENTS "As a leader, you want to get the most out of your teams. You want them to feel happy to come to work, engage with what you're doing, drive the results of the business." "Being vulnerable also means showing a part of yourself that shows you're human. That really encourages the empathy side of things." "When you lead with authority, you do not shy away from decisions. You make the decisions." "Thinking the best of someone first, not thinking the worst, is empathetic. You're giving people a chance." Ep 452Chasing Dreams vs. Attracting Opportunities - with Mike “C-Roc” Ciorrocco

Jeannette talks to Mike “C-Roc” Ciorrocco, founder of That1 Agency and host of the podcast What Are You Made Of. Mike shares his inspiring journey from a challenging childhood marked by brokenness and adversity to becoming a successful entrepreneur with a massive social media following. He also discusses the importance of networking, self-belief, and the power of intention in achieving success KEY TAKEAWAYS Setting a clear intention in life directs your attention towards achieving your goals. By focusing on positive outcomes, you can create a reality that aligns with your aspirations. Building a strong network is crucial for success. Engaging with others and forming genuine connections can lead to opportunities and collaborations that enhance personal and professional growth. Sharing personal stories and experiences, including struggles and setbacks, can foster deeper connections with others and inspire them to overcome their own challenges. Practicing gratitude and being present in the moment can shift your focus from what you lack to appreciating what you have, leading to a more fulfilling life. BEST MOMENTS "If you're telling yourself that you have to be this way, which is a negative thing, and then you live it out, you probably could do it the other way too." "When things happen in your life, you are causing and creating those things with your thoughts, words, actions, emotions, the people you keep around you." "I think sometimes we push too much. Ep 451Quit Your Job And Become Your Own Boss

Jeannette shares her insights on the journey of quitting a corporate job to become your own boss. Drawing from her extensive experience as a CEO in the global travel industry, she discusses the allure and challenges of entrepreneurship, and outlines three approaches to making the leap: having a clear plan, responding to unexpected circumstances, or starting a side hustle KEY TAKEAWAYS There are three main ways to transition from a corporate job to entrepreneurship: having a clear plan with a deadline, responding to unexpected circumstances like redundancy, or starting a side hustle to test the waters. Before making the leap, assess your personal finances to ensure you have enough savings to cover your essential expenses for at least six months. This will allow you to focus on building your business without the stress of immediate financial pressure. Surround yourself with supportive individuals, including mentors or coaches who have experience in entrepreneurship. Their guidance can be invaluable during challenging times. Entrepreneurship involves risks and potential failures. It's crucial to develop a thick skin and be prepared for setbacks, as they are a natural part of the journey. BEST MOMENTS "It sounds incredibly glamorous to quit your job, become your own boss, but it isn’t for everyone." "You are not going to be making profit normally straight away. If you are, I mean, amazing, fantastic. But be prepared for that." "You need to make sure that you’ve got something there, you’ve got a bit of a rainy day fund in the event that it takes a while for this business to get off the ground." "Entrepreneurs fail all the time. They take risks, and setting up your own business involves taking risks." "If this isn’t a dream that you’ve had to leave your job and become your own boss, give it a go." Ep 450Time to Balance the Board by Accelerating Change on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

This episode incorporates the inspiring speech that Jeannette delivered as a key note at the recent Balance the Board annual conference in London, along with insights from Holly Addison Co-Founder of Balance the Board and interviews with Paul Holbrook Founder of Diary Detox, Juliett Cattermole Chief People Officer at David Lloyd Leisure and Ann-marie Murphy Group Chief People Officer at SSP Group. It's all about focusing on diversity, equity and inclusion to accelerate change and make the world of business a better place with opportunities for all. This combined with Jeannette's framework of Brave Bold Brilliant makes for an inspiring listen. Balance the Board was created by two of the founders of Plan B Mentoring – a not-for -profit mentoring platform launched in 2017 to help women progress to senior leadership and board level. Its aim was simple; to encourage women to believe in themselves and their ability to contribute at the most senior levels, to the success of their organisations, through advice and support from objective mentors. Balance the Board goes beyond gender diversity, supporting and embracing all under-represented communities, encouraging greater balance on boards and championing more inclusive cultures. Today, Balance the Board runs a number of mentoring programs, hosts regular events and webinars with the mission to equip talented individuals from all dimensions of diversity to be the best they can be, through empowerment, learning and challenge, by creating a network that will mentor and support the next generation of inclusive leaders. KEY TAKEAWAYS The framework emphasises the importance of self-leadership (brave), leading the business with clarity and purpose (bold), and fostering strong, inclusive teams (brilliant) to drive success and create a positive impact. Achieving true inclusion requires more than good intentions; it demands action, commitment, and a willingness to challenge the status quo. Organisations should focus on creating diverse teams that reflect the communities they serve. Being authentic and bringing your full self to work is crucial for effective leadership. This authenticity helps in building diverse and inclusive teams where everyone feels valued and empowered. Continuous training and open, honest conversations about diversity and inclusion are essential for fostering a culture of belonging. Organisations should not rely solely on initiatives but engage in meaningful dialogue to address DEI challenges. BEST MOMENTS "It's through using my Brave Bold Brilliant framework that helps these businesses scale up and be the best in the industry." Ep 449Navigating Your First Exec Board Position With Ease

Jeannette shares invaluable insights for those stepping into their first board position or aspiring to do so in the near future. Drawing from personal experiences as a former CEO and executive director, she discusses the importance of adopting a dual perspective—managing both individual responsibilities and the broader organisational strategy. KEY TAKEAWAYS As a board member, you must balance running your specific area of the business while also contributing to the overall strategy and growth of the organization. This requires a shift in perspective to a more holistic view. Transitioning to an executive role involves engaging with a different set of stakeholders, including board members, external investors, and regulatory bodies. Understanding these relationships is crucial for effective networking and representation. Directors have legal obligations and must ensure proper governance practices are in place. This includes managing risks and ensuring that all stakeholders are fairly represented. Successful executive leadership involves balancing purpose, profit, people, and planet. This holistic approach is essential for aligning business strategies with sustainability and social responsibility, particularly in the context of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives. BEST MOMENTS "When you become a board member, it's really important to remember that you almost start to wear two hats." "Governance becomes a much bigger piece, that robustness, that clarity, essentially ensuring that all those stakeholders are fairly represented." "The four P's—purpose, profit, people, and planet—working in harmony is really what makes a great business." "These big corporate roles are stressful. Executive burnout and stress come partly with the territory." This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 447Winning The Morning - How To Set Yourself Up For Success

Jeannette looks at the importance of starting your day with intention and purpose, introducing the concept of a "Miracle Morning." Drawing inspiration from Hal Elrod's book, she shares a personalised morning routine encapsulated in the acronym SAVERS: Silence, Affirmations, Visualisation, Exercise, Reading, and Scribing. KEY TAKEAWAYS How you start your morning sets the tone for the entire day, influencing your energy, mindset, and overall results. SAVERS Acronym: A structured morning routine can be built around the acronym SAVERS, which stands for Silence, Affirmations, Visualisation, Exercise, Reading, and Scribing. Each component contributes to personal growth and well-being. It's essential to find a morning routine that works for you personally, as everyone's energy levels and preferences differ. Tailor the routine to fit your lifestyle and commitments. Incorporating exercise into your morning routine is crucial for both physical and mental health, helping to boost energy levels and reduce stress. BEST MOMENTS "So win the morning, win the day, and when you win the day... You win the week, and when you win the week, you win the month, and when you win the month, you win the year." "Routine equals results. So, if you are consistent and you have great habits... then you're going to achieve better results overall." "It's very difficult to be upset and negative and feel grateful at the same time. So immediately you're in that mindset of joy and happiness." "When you say things out loud, it feels real. And when you're actually doing that, it becomes almost like a mantra." "It would be a crime to live a life less than you're capable of. And every single one of you has got greatness in you."
