Ep 365Tips For MAXing 2024
Jeannette shares a formula for success to kick off the new year in the best way possible. The formula is belief plus purpose plus action equals results. She focusses upon the importance of believing in oneself and surrounding oneself with supportive people. Jeannette also talks about the significance of having a clear purpose and reason why, and provide a model called the Vision Cascade to help listeners define their goals. KEY TAKEAWAYS The formula for success in 2024 is belief plus purpose plus action equals results. Belief starts with oneself and involves doing things that make you feel good, visualizing your future, and surrounding yourself with supportive people. Purpose is about knowing your reason why and what you genuinely want from life. It involves getting clear on your vision and breaking it down into focus areas. Action is essential in achieving success. It requires having a plan and taking steps towards your goals, whether it's starting with the end and working backwards or simply taking action today. Regularly checking in on your self-belief, purpose, and action can help you stay on track and achieve your dreams in 2024. BEST MOMENTS "If you don't believe in yourself how can you expect other people to believe in you." "What mark do you want to leave on this world? What's your reason why?" "But have a plan and take the action. Because when you do that, that's when stuff starts to happen." This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. It’s never too late to be BRAVE and BOLD and unlock your inner BRILLIANCE. Ep 361How to Exit as a CEO with Ease
Jeannette discusses the important topic of exiting a business, whether as a CEO of a large corporate organisation or as a business owner. Drawing from her 30 years of experience in both roles, she shares valuable insights and tips on how to effectively plan and execute an exit strategy, covering five key areas: learning the exit process, starting early, scoping out options, establishing operational foundations, and considering the impact on people KEY TAKEAWAYS It is recommended to start planning for an exit or transition early on. By having a clear vision of what the next phase looks like and working backwards from there, individuals can take the necessary actions and avoid feeling rushed or unprepared. Depending on whether one is a corporate CEO or a business owner, there are different exit options to consider. For corporate CEOs, it may involve engaging with headhunters or networking for the next CEO role. For business owners, options may include selling to a competitor, private equity investor, or considering a management buyout. Before exiting a role or selling a business, it is crucial to ensure that all systems, processes, and documentation are in place. This includes having the necessary information for due diligence and ensuring that the business can run smoothly without the individual's direct involvement. Managing the impact on people is critical during an exit or transition. This includes considering the anxiety and uncertainty it may cause for the team and stakeholders. For business owners, it may involve maintaining confidentiality among a close-knit team during the selling process BEST MOMENTS "I think it's amazing to ask as many people as possible what their opinions are, what their experience has been, because that is going to give you a great suite of information that you can digest “ "The exit and having the people front and foremost in your mind is critical." "Once you have exited and sold your business, what's the message externally? What's the message to your suppliers, to your customers, making sure the handover of whoever you have sold the business to, you know, is done smoothly, it's done respectfully?" "So let's do it in an elegant way. Let's do it in a respectful way. Let's make sure that when you move on, the business will continue to thrive." Ep 358Kate Howell, The Story Behind Borough Market - Surviving a Terrorist Attack
Jeannette interviews Kate Howell, former Communications and Engagement Director for Borough Market in London. They discuss leadership during times of crisis, specifically focusing on Kate's experience managing communications after the 2017 attack on Borough Market. Kate shares valuable insights on leading with empathy, the importance of self-care, and the power of networking and building personal brand. She also reflects on her career journey, transitioning from a corporate role to a plural career, and the impact of community and food in her work KEY TAKEAWAYS Personal branding is about how people perceive you when they think of you. It's important to understand your values and how you want to be perceived in the professional space. Don't be afraid to ask others for their perception of you. This feedback can help you understand how others see you and align your personal brand with your values. Personal branding is not about being big-headed or showing off. It's about confidently talking about your achievements, experiences, and interests in a way that resonates with others. Building a personal brand involves connecting with people who share your values and interests. Networking and engaging with others in your industry can lead to valuable connections and opportunities. BEST MOMENTS "Brand is not colouring in. Communications isn't colouring in. It's a strategic function." "If you get a no right now, maybe it's a no, not at the moment, but might be in the future." "Be kind, treat people as you want to be treated, and if you are in a privileged position, you have to go through that journey to understand yourself." "Lead with value, be a good person, put good out in the world. The law of reciprocity will work its magic at some point." As part of the Market’s four-person executive, I am working closely with the board to help shape the strategic direction of the Market at what is a pivotal period in the evolution of this historic institution. Following a lengthy period of consultation with stakeholders and external experts, we have recently published our 2030 Strategy and the Market’s first ever Food Policy. When I arrived in my post, Borough Market was widely known, but its brand was under- developed and its reputation had been battered by a series of damaging press stories and disruptive construction projects. I have been highly successful in building Borough Market’s brand and increasing engagement through our many direct channels. Our digital presence is now vast, incorporating a popular website, social media channels with hundreds of thousands of followers, an e-newsletter, digital publications, and a regular podcast series. Our customer magazine has won numerous awards, we have published two critically and commercially successful books, and our in-person events are always heavily attended. I have also ensured that the thoughts of the institution and its traders on topics related to food politics and sustainability are regularly heard through the national media. I helped shape our strategic response to some extremely challenging circumstances, including the 2017 terrorist attack, Brexit and the COVID pandemic, as well as driving positive coverage of the Market’s many amazing people and activities. I have frequently appeared on TV and radio and have worked closely with colleagues to prepare them to do the same. Ep 357Becoming Your Own Boss - The Top 5 Things They Don't Tell You
Jeannette discusses the five big things that people often overlook when they make the decision to leave their job and become their own boss. Drawing from her own experience as a former corporate CEO turned entrepreneur, she shares valuable insights and advice for those considering or already on this journey. The episode covers topics such as the loneliness that can come with being your own boss, the need for structure and discipline, the different mindset when investing your own money, the importance of personal branding, and the value of building and nurturing a strong network. KEY TAKEAWAYS Making the decision to become your own boss can be a lonely experience. When you leave a job and start your own business, you may find yourself without the support and camaraderie of a team. It's important to find ways to connect with like-minded individuals and build a network of support. Despite seeking freedom, choice, and flexibility, many entrepreneurs find themselves missing the structure that a job provided. Creating a new structure for your day and setting clear goals and priorities can help you stay focused and productive. When you're investing your own money in your business, it feels different than when you were managing a budget for a company. You become more cautious and rigorous in your spending, as every dollar or pound is your own hard-earned cash. It's important to have the right financial support and skills on your team to optimize your investments. Personal brand becomes crucial when you start your own business. In the corporate world, your job title and the reputation of the company you work for may open doors for you. However, as an entrepreneur, your personal brand and reputation are everything. BEST MOMENTS "When you make the decision to jump out of a job and become your own boss, people don't tell you how lonely it is." "Ironically, when I jumped out of corporate, I realized I missed the structure that I had in my job." "When you're investing your own money, it feels very different. You pay much more attention and don't waste money." "Your personal brand becomes a thing when you start your own business. Your reputation is everything." It's giving greater opportunities to people of all genders." "You can't just say, well, we've written a policy now. So we have a policy that things are going to be equal. And it's not really our fault if women aren't applying for the jobs or whatever it is." "I think it's fantastic because so often we will focus on the same old, same old destinations, you know. But we also want to be able to travel widely and have a rich experience." This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 351Sometimes You Have To Go Backwards To Go Forwards
Jeannette discusses the concept of going backwards in order to go forwards in life and business. She shares personal examples from her career and life where she had to take a step back or sideways in order to ultimately move forward. From struggling to find a job after graduating to making a sideways move to a different industry, she emphasises the importance of embracing change and learning from setbacks KEY TAKEAWAYS Sometimes in life and business, it is necessary to go backwards in order to go forwards. This means that setbacks or taking a step back can actually lead to future progress and growth. Life is not always a straight path, and there can be many different routes and choices to make. It is important to keep it real and share our journeys authentically, as success is not always linear. Going backwards or sideways can provide an opportunity for reflection and gaining clarity. It allows us to reassess our goals and identify alternative options that may lead to greater success. Embracing setbacks, rejections, and failures as learning experiences is crucial. These moments can provide valuable lessons and pave the way for future opportunities. BEST MOMENTS "Life isn't always a straight path... we might have a perfect plan, but then it doesn't quite work out that way” "I had to go backwards in order to go forward... I graduated with a first, but then had to take any job I could get." "Not everything is rosy in the garden, you're going to get knockbacks, you're going to get rejections, you're going to fail loads, just accept it, embrace it, take it as learning." Ep 350Chris Marsh - Life & Loves of a Shaman
Jeannette talks to Chris Marsh, an analytical hypnotherapist and shamanic healer, who shares his fascinating journey from a career in IT to becoming a shaman, discussing his experiences with spiritual healing, past lives, and ancestral trauma. Chris explains the concept of shamanic healing and how it combines various modalities such as Reiki, mediumship, and plant medicine, and focusses upon the importance of self-awareness and self-love in the healing process, offering practical advice for those interested in embarking on their own journey of self-discovery. KEY TAKEAWAYS Self-awareness is a crucial starting point for personal growth and self-discovery. By becoming aware of our reactions and behaviours, we can better understand ourselves and identify triggers that may be holding us back. Taking time for self-love and self-care is essential. It is not selfish to prioritise our own well-being and give ourselves the time and space we need to recharge and nurture our own needs. Finding the right therapist or healing modality is important. Building trust and rapport with a therapist who aligns with our beliefs and values can greatly enhance the healing process. The mind-body connection is powerful. Our mental well-being can have a significant impact on our physical health. Stress, anxiety, and unresolved trauma can manifest as physical ailments, highlighting the importance of addressing our mental and emotional well-being. BEST MOMENTS "The word actually comes from Siberia originally, and the Siberian shamans migrated across to the US and the Americas." "Everybody can do the healing work. Everybody's got that connection to spirit and to enable you to get that connection and reconnect to it." "Everybody comes with a spiritual purpose, I believe. So I think it's a combination." "I think we're all born with a certain physiology of how our minds work, like a blueprint." Devouring countless books and online resources, then discovering mindfulness and alternative healthcare, which took him through Yoga, Acupuncture, meditation, and Reiki. Ultimately finding Analytical Hypnotherapy enabled him to let go of the core negative beliefs and behaviours that were creating his symptoms and holding him back. Ep 349How To Create Unstoppable Habits to Drive Success
Jeannette shares valuable insights on how to create good habits in order to achieve desired results, drawing inspiration from the book "Atomic Habits" by James Clear. Jeannette breaks down the process into four key stages: cue, craving, response, and reward. By making habits obvious, attractive, easy, and satisfying, you can learn how to implement and maintain positive habits in your lives KEY TAKEAWAYS Creating good habits involves four key stages: cue, craving, response, and reward. These stages are essential for establishing and maintaining habits. Making the cue obvious is crucial for starting a good habit. This can be done by creating a habit scorecard and implementing specific intentions. Habit stacking is a useful technique where a new habit is added onto an existing, well-established habit. This makes it easier to incorporate the new habit into daily routines. Designing your environment to support your desired habits can reduce friction and make it easier to follow through. This can include removing temptations and setting up specific spaces for different tasks BEST MOMENTS "It takes time to get fit. It takes time to lose weight and it isn't immediate." "Never miss twice because if you miss twice and then you miss a third time, then you miss a fourth time, that good habit is going to be much harder to start and it may, you may never get it back." "What started out as being very difficult for me to start the podcast now is much more seamless." "There are no limits to what you can achieve. But by having these good habits in your daily routine, your weekly routine, your monthly routine, whatever it is, it is going to allow you to unlock that true potential in yourself." Ep 347Words Have Power, Choose Them Wisely
Jeannette discusses the power of words and how they can greatly impact our lives. She challenges the old saying that "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me," stating that words do have the power to hurt or uplift us. Jeannette delves into four key areas where words play a significant role: the inner dialogue we have with ourselves, the words we use when communicating with others, the tone of our language and body language, and the importance of word replacement to shift from negative to positive thinking KEY TAKEAWAYS Jeannette encourages being conscious of the words we use when communicating with others. Use motivational, supportive, and encouraging words instead of aggressive or negative ones. Our body language and tone of voice can convey more than the words themselves. Jeannette stresses the importance of projecting positivity, energy, and confidence through body language and tone. Replace negative words like "but" with more positive alternatives like "and" or "so." Replace phrases like "I have to" with "I get to" to shift from a negative to a positive mindset. Believe in yourself and create the life you deserve. Jeannette encourages retraining our brains to believe in our abilities and potential BEST MOMENTS "Words are like verbal bullets. They can shred you." "The stories that you tell yourself are really important. You need to train your inner brain." "Choosing those words is really important. It can uplift, motivate, guide, support, or it can really crush people." "I am entrepreneurial. I am an entrepreneur. I am a great corporate CEO, but I am also an amazing entrepreneur." Ep 344Adele Nicoll Elite Athlete – Reaching for the Stars to Become an Olympian
Jeannette welcomes Adele Nicoll, an elite athlete and multi-sport competitor, to discuss Adele's journey into athletics, her natural talent and passion for sports, and her dedication to training and competing in shot put, discus, and bobsleigh. Adele shares her experiences of overcoming challenges, including the financial struggles of being a self-funded athlete, and the importance of having supportive relationships and role models. She also highlights the need for greater visibility and investment in women's sports, emphasising the value that individual athletes can bring to businesses and the wider community KEY TAKEAWAYS Adele acknowledges that she had natural athletic ability from a young age, but she also emphasises the importance of hard work and dedication in achieving success. Talent may open doors, but it is the effort that takes you to the top. Pushing through emotions and fulfilling your commitments, helps to demonstrate resilience and determination. There is a need for more female role models in sports, particularly in individual sports like athletics. Adele believes that visibility and support from businesses are crucial in promoting women in sports and creating equal opportunities. Adele encourages businesses to consider investing in individual athletes and not just team sports. She suggests that athletes can offer valuable skills and insights to businesses, such as motivation, inspiration, and resilience, which can benefit employees and contribute to better results BEST MOMENTS "I think there is a balance of obviously recovery is huge in what I do and I have to make sure I'm sleeping and I'm getting rest and I think I have this year become better at recognising when I'm getting run down because that's when you have to say I need a day off." "I think that to see change, there needs to be a merge between investment into sport, to see it not just as sport. Because I think that's sometimes the hesitancy with a lot of, I guess, businesses, they think, well, sport doesn't align with what we do. Sport aligns with everything that businesses do." "I think we really need to make it clear that it's never about males versus females. I think that it's always about females standing on their own on the same level as males, not to fight against males or to compete against males. It's about having the equal opportunity, the equal visibility." This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 343Body Confidence And Mindset
Jeannette discusses the topic of body confidence and its impact on mindset and overall well-being. She acknowledges the pressure created by social media and societal expectations to look a certain way, but emphasises the importance of embracing one's authentic self. Jeannette also shares personal experiences and interviews with two successful business owners who promote feeling good about oneself, providing tips for building self-confidence, such as establishing a well-being routine, seeking out positive role models, being mindful of social media influences, treating oneself, and valuing time. KEY TAKEAWAYS Embrace your authentic self, and learn to get comfortable with who you are and embracing your unique qualities and attributes. Establishing a routine that focuses on both physical and mental well-being can have a significant impact on how you feel about yourself. This can include activities such as exercise, meditation, and visualisation. Seek out role models who inspire you and help you become a better version of yourself. These role models can be found in various areas of life, including media, friends, family, and colleagues. While social media can have positive aspects, it's important to be aware that the images and content presented may not always reflect reality. Avoid comparing yourself to unrealistic standards and be cautious about the content you consume. Be kind to yourself and reward yourself for your accomplishments, no matter how big or small. Additionally, recognize the value of time and use it wisely, focusing on activities and relationships that contribute to your personal growth and happiness BEST MOMENTS "There's so much pressure out there in terms of images on social media, maybe sometimes we think that we need to look a certain way, behave a certain way and that can really impact how we come across, how we feel about ourselves and also just our general mental well-being." "But if we can enhance that and make you feel good about that, then that's an amazing thing to do." "So, you know, to take a collagen supplement, it's not all about wrinkles on your face, but in general around your joints, kind of your muscle health, etc." "We all have different parts of our body that we don't like, we're not happy with. We've got wobbly bits, right? But if you let that infiltrate your brain too much, it can really affect how you feel about yourself, your confidence, and essentially how you put yourself out into the world." Silversea's newest ship, Silver Nova, showcases the combination of Silversea's heritage and Royal Caribbean's engineering capabilities. It features an asymmetrical design, allowing for more glass and natural light, as well as an open pool deck that offers unobstructed views of the destination. The company is committed to sustainability and has built Silver Nova to be the most sustainable ship in its class, reducing greenhouse emissions by 40% compared to previous ships. The partnership with Royal Caribbean Group has enabled Silversea to invest in sustainable practices and technologies. BEST MOMENTS "Success is a very dangerous teacher, because the day we believe we got it all, that's when, first of all, I think we stop enjoying because part of working for me is also learning new things every day." "I always consider my biggest strength the fact that I was born blonde with blue eyes, because many stupid men, they think you're stupid. And so they treat you like a blonde." "The strength about an asymmetric ship is really the consumer benefits that come out of it. So the whole structure of the ship is inside, which allows the whole ship to be built in glass. So the first thing, which is difficult to explain on a podcast, but this is really the ship of light." "So sometimes, as much as we were talking before about just open yourself to the universe and be out there, but also, don't be afraid of saying no if it doesn't feel right, because it's much harder to say no than yes." Ep 338Anita Mendiratta - Defining The Call to Leadership
Jeannette is joined by Anita Mendiratta, a strategic advisor, renowned diplomat, and author of the upcoming book "The Call to Leadership: Unlocking the Leader Within in Times of Crisis." Anita shares her insights on what makes a great leader during a crisis, emphasising the importance of a leader's wiring and their ability to interpret their role in the moment. She discusses her career journey and the catalyst for writing her book, which explores the experiences and lessons of influential leaders during the global pandemic. KEY TAKEAWAYS Great leaders have a clear understanding of their purpose and the motivation behind their actions. They lead with a focus on something bigger than themselves, whether it's protecting their team, their organisation, or their community. Leaders need to have clarity on what aspects of a crisis they can control and take action on. By understanding this, they can make informed decisions and create a sense of stability amidst uncertainty. Leaders should be able to articulate and visualise the potential negative impacts of a crisis. By doing so, they can better prepare and develop strategies to mitigate those risks. Effective leaders think beyond the immediate challenges and consider the future. They focus on how to navigate through the crisis and create opportunities for growth and recovery. BEST MOMENTS "I fundamentally believe that if we waste that time, if we spend all of that time having all of these great conversations about what we're not going to do again to make sure that we course correct and we forget those, we have wasted one of the best opportunities we've had as a bonding agent for our industry." "No one ever stopped and said, Paul, how are you? No one had ever asked these leaders how they were. They were asking about the businesses." "It's when decisions are made in a vacuum and during a crisis like we found with COVID, information was emerging in different ways, different times, different forms, and also different truths. People need information. It's food when there's a state of crisis." "My point of view is always this, it's very easy to criticise and look backwards when we're in our comfort zone. But when we reflect back to those moments… we did not know. We did not have the blessing of information. We did not have any meaningful understanding. So we relied on people." Ep 331How To Find The Perfect Mentor To Achieve Greatness
Jeannette discusses the importance of having a mentor to scale up one's career, business, and life. Drawing from personal experience as both a mentee and a mentor, she shares ten invaluable tips on finding the perfect mentor, including committing to the mentorship journey, identifying the desired experience and values in a mentor, conducting thorough due diligence, arranging face-to-face meetings, and speaking directly to the mentor's previous mentees. KEY TAKEAWAYS Before seeking a mentor, make sure you are fully committed and ready to invest the necessary time, finances, and emotional energy into the mentorship. When looking for a mentor, consider their experience in your specific industry or sector, as well as their values, behaviours, and style to ensure a good fit. Conduct thorough due diligence on potential mentors, including checking their social media presence, conducting online searches, and speaking to their current or past mentees. Once you have identified potential mentors, arrange face-to-face meetings to get to know them better and ask about the results they have achieved for their mentees. Additionally, speak directly to their mentees to gain insights into their mentoring style and effectiveness. BEST MOMENTS "I'm a massive believer in mentors, in coaches. I have had mentors and coaches throughout my entire career, always at pivotal moments where I have either had a promotion, I've been setting up a business or I have been, you know, kind of shifting from one world to the next." Ep 330Jeannette Linfoot on Fearless Inspiration
Jeannette shares her biggest inspiration and her own formula for success with the amazing Iain Drudy on his show, Fearless Inspiration. Jeannette talks about the importance of running a business with a heart, prioritising people and customers over profits, and her journey from a corporate career in the travel industry to becoming an entrepreneur, as well as her passion for empowering women in the boardroom. KEY TAKEAWAYS It’s crucial to put customers and people first in business, rather than solely focusing on financial gains. By prioritising customer satisfaction and creating a value-driven business, financial success will naturally follow. All forms of diversity, including gender, LGBTQ, and social diversity, are important. Creating an inclusive environment not only benefits society but also leads to better financial results and customer experiences. It’s important to take responsibility, learn from failures, and maintain a positive mindset to move forward and achieve success. Leaders have a responsibility to inspire their teams, customers, and stakeholders. Leading by example, being authentic, and treating everyone with respect are key aspects of inspiring leadership. There are 3 S's we can use to break through barriers and turn inspiration into action. State refers to mindset and energy levels, story involves the beliefs and narratives we tell ourselves, and strategy focuses on taking action and implementing plans. By addressing these three aspects, individuals can overcome obstacles and achieve their goals. BEST MOMENTS "If you put your customer and your people first, and you do the right thing with a great idea that's unique and different, then the money will follow." "Everyone has skills and contributions that they can make, but you have to really create an environment where proactively you're encouraging those opportunities for all." "Don't lose hope when bad things happen, but own it, take responsibility, don't blame others." "Change your state, change your energy, go to the gym, get a positive endorphin rush, and then the world seems more open to possibilities." "Fundamentally, every person has good in them. I like to think most people are good." This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 329Where Businesses Are Getting Their Next CEOs From

Armed with this invaluable information, you’ll find it much easier to step up when it counts and grab that job of your dreams. More women were appointed as CEOs in 2023, but women are still massively under-represented in terms of the global numbers. 87% of new CEOs were men. Not everything goes well, but it's how we deal with it that's so important, isn't it?" "Don't be afraid of failure. Sometimes it's by really just embracing that and go, well, how bad can it be? Unless someone is going to die in this situation, anything else from that is upside." "Sometimes the stories that you tell yourself can be the most damaging and can really constrain you." "Find your purpose. What's your purpose? What's your reason? Why do you get out of bed in the morning? What legacy do you want to leave for your family, for your kids, for the people you care about?" "Even if a company may be guilty of malfeasance, if they take ownership and address it in a meaningful way, that always mutes what the situation is." "You have to get into the core of what the issue is. The most crucial point is how you respond and the amount and timing of your response." "You have to be your authentic self, but then also soften enough or sculpt your approach and who you are in order to make people feel comfortable around you." Ep 325How To Get That Promotion
Jeannette shares valuable insights on how to secure that next big promotion. Drawing from her extensive experience in recruiting and promoting individuals, as well as her own successful career progression, Jeannette provides practical advice on six key areas. KEY TAKEAWAYS Before pursuing a promotion, it's important to have a clear understanding of your next ideal move, whether it's within your current organization or externally. Consider the role, organization, and potential career progression. Even for internal promotions, having a well-crafted CV is important to demonstrate your accomplishments and readiness for the next step. Being visible and known for your expertise can increase your chances of being considered for promotions. Don't assume that others know about your career aspirations. Have proactive conversations with your boss and other relevant stakeholders to express your goals and seek feedback on what you need to do to be considered for a promotion. This will help you create a plan and demonstrate your commitment to growth. BEST MOMENTS "You cannot assume that people know what your next move is going to be." "Networking should just be part and parcel of what you do. Put yourself out into the world, not give to receive, just give." "Do more than you are paid to do. Volunteer for projects, volunteer to speak, volunteer to put your hand up as much as you possibly can." "Your network is your net worth." Jeannette also explores the implications of this move for tour operators and other travel businesses in the UK KEY TAKEAWAYS Uber, known for disrupting the cab hailing market, is now expanding into the travel space, which could potentially impact travel businesses in the UK and other markets. After years of being a loss-making business, Uber has achieved profitability under the leadership of CEO Dara. In the period from April to June 2023, Uber announced profits of $326 million, compared to a loss of $713 million in the prior year. The success of Uber highlights the importance of disrupting traditional models, investing in innovation, and leveraging technology to create a competitive edge in the market. BEST MOMENTS "Uber is very well known for being the cab hailing app right." "Uber came along and totally disrupted the model right using technology convenience and having an app that allows you to not only be safe but also to really have that availability at your fingertips." Ep 322Daniel Priestley - Helping Businesses, Showbiz Stars & Entrepreneurs be BRAVE, FUN & DENT
This time, Jeannette is joined by author, speaker, entrepreneurial mastermind, and founder of Dent Global, Daniel Priestley! Daniel joins Jeanette for an empowering conversation about where he finds his entrepreneurial spark, how to become a key person of influence, why success is even sweeter when it comes as the result of hard work, why the accepted wisdom about authenticity might be wrong, and how to strike the best balance between business and life. KEY TAKEAWAYS Authenticity isn't always the best way to keep your brand afloat. It's often best used as a spice rather than an ingredient. People came to you for a reason, and you should always keep that in mind. Key persons of influence raise their profile, create amazing products, and form partnerships that generate life-changing results. Business requires work, dedication and sacrifice if the heights of success are being sought, but we must never discount the value in reflection, fun, and making sure that the right culture is instilled. Struggle is sometimes a matter of perspective. We can often describe challenge as hardship, but compared to the issues facing some people in the world, our challenges can seem minor. BEST MOMENTS 'This is what the best of the best do' 'Authenticity means different things to different people' 'Here's an idea - shut up and work!' 'Sales as a profession should be treated as a profession' 'The priority was to bring. commercial culture to the people who raise the money' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 321De-Clutter To Spark Inspiration And Creativity
Jeannette discusses the "fertile void", a concept that describes how, if we find ourselves in a creative void for a time, then it can spark unprecedented levels of creativity and productivity. KEY TAKEAWAYS We're currently going through much in the way of change and unpredictability. We're in a void situation, as the norm has essentially disappeared, which can feel uncomfortable. If you are able to stay in a position of being "comfortably uncomfortable" with not knowing what the next step might be, then you can spark creativity. When we hit downtime, rather than panic and try to fill that space with other things, pause - just give yourself some time. BEST MOMENTS 'You need to be able to rest in order for your mind to come up with creativeness' 'Things can come to you that would not have appeared to you before' 'Try and stay in that place where it is uncertain and it is uncomfortable' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 320Oliver Winter CEO A&O Hostels - Breaking Down Borders to Create a Green Empire
Oliver Winter is the CEO and co-founder of a&o hostels, having founded the company 20 years ago with Michael Kluge. Since then it has gone on to become one of the most successful hostel chains in the world, with annual turnover in the nine-figure range. Oliver joins Jeannette to talk about how he founded a global brand, and the differing skill sets he has acquired along the way, including becoming a prolific property investor. KEY TAKEAWAYS Hostels provide a sense of community, where people can come together in ways not possible in the hotel world. Almost half of the business relies on groups for bookings, and hostels prove extraordinarily popular with the likes of students, who seek low-cost accommodation that allows them to remain together as a group. Maintaining hostels requires not just a sense of business, but investment. Oliver has, along the way, become a property investor, and is now responsible for many units. If you have a good business idea, then be brave enough to put it out there into the world, and be disruptive enough to see it through. Stick to your idea and stick to your way of doing things. BEST MOMENTS 'You have to understand your target group' 'I always was focussed on operations, but to control a property has some charm' 'Our early lives influence our lives as adults' 'Be brave, be disruptive' 'The priority was to bring. commercial culture to the people who raise the money' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Winter intended to begin his career in teaching, but while on a study break travelling the world in the mid-1990s, he was inspired to come up with a new hostel concept. Oliver wanted to give people, especially students or young people, the opportunity to stay in professionally managed, affordable and centrally located accommodation, with no youth hostel card fee. After several initial attempts at getting the company off the ground, Winter was approached by his experienced, entrepreneurial landlord, who deemed the idea a ‘winning’ concept. The two of them collaborated, and together in 2000 they opened their first a&o hostel, a 164-room property in Berlin. Since launching the brand, Winter has successfully expanded the company having been responsible for its strategic growth, with a&o operating 39 hostels in 25 cities and nine European countries. A 40th property is planned for spring 2024 with a&o Florence. In 2022 a&o recorded its most successful year to date. Welcoming more than 5.55 million overnight stays and a turnover of more than 172 million Euros, the hostel chain surpassed results from the pre-COVID year 2019 (around 150 million) and experienced a turnover increase of more than 100 million Euros compared to 2021 – almost 150 percent more. Ep 318David Robinson Travel Industry Legend - Creating a Bridge Between Travel & Charity
Jeannette talks to world-renowned business leader and travel industry specialist, David Robinson, about his fascinating career - one that has taken him to the heights of the corporate world as well as the upper echelons of the charity sector – how the lessons of business can amplify the charity business as a whole, and why values matter so much when it comes to establishing business brands and creating powerful messaging. KEY TAKEAWAYS David has found success in the charity sector by applying the rules of business, but keeping the element of care and the human factor at the forefront. Bringing people along on the journey of change is challenging, especially for long time workers. But the world is changing, and we must, too. To survive in the charity sector, the lessons of business must be applied. This requires resilience, and a focus upon the right kind of fundraising and marketing. The charity sector needs support in learning how to survive in the long term. The cost of living crisis has meant that people are less inclined to give freely - combatting this mindset will decide how charities survive going forward. BEST MOMENTS 'I've always loved travel, and ever since I was a child I wanted to work in that industry' 'The basis upon which we achieved that was through the changing culture and values' 'It's been a really interesting journey' 'The priority was to bring. commercial culture to the people who raise the money' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. It’s never too late to be BRAVE and BOLD and unlock your inner BRILLIANCE. He was involved in the acquisition process of the business to Thomas Cook Plc and ultimately was a Board Director of Thomas Cook Scheduled Businesses responsible for the airline, hotel and ground product portfolio of over £500m. After taking a short break he looked at using his skills for more charitable purposes. Initially, taking a role as a Trustee David moved, taking the role as Chief Executive of a children’s hospice which needed a thorough review of the culture, values and strategy. When he took over the reins the charity held a ‘requires improvement’ rating from the regulator. Using his skills for business, strategic planning, culture and values he transformed the charity attaining a rating of ‘Outstanding’ within two years with the regular citing the significant shift in culture, values and governance as overwhelming and inspiring. He has also been an active member of several advisory councils in the charity sector with the most significant being Together for Short Lives, a nationally recognised organisation. David stepped down from the CEO role at the end of last year and is now providing consultancy in business, strategy, culture and values to both the commercial and charity sector. Ep 31712 Tips How to Make a Great Speech
Public speaking is one of the most powerful tools you can use in order to get your message out into the world, influence others, and shape your all-important personal brand. In this episode, Jeannette shares some powerful secrets that will dramatically accelerate your speaking skills, and allow you to achieve life-changing results! KEY TAKEAWAYS Talk about things you know about and that you're personally excited to share with others. If you can speak about something passionately and confidently, then you've already won the battle.
