Ep 166Why Not Being Afraid to Fail Creates Extra Opportunities For You Julia Lo Bue-Said

In this episode, Jeannette talks to Julia Lo Bue-Said who is the CEO of the Advantage Travel Centres group. She became a leading voice and effective advocate for the travel industry, during the CoVid pandemic. Julia has also won multiple travel business awards. Including, The Travel Legend Award, in October 2021. They discuss Julia´s 25-year career. Including, how to overcome some of the challenges women in the workplace still face and handling the transition from an operational role to being CEO. As well as how to deal with the media, learning to speak out and doing so in a way that leads to positive change. Julia also explains how she copes with being in the public eye. Including how she has learned not to let the added scrutiny affect her judgment. KEY TAKEAWAYS Moving from an operational role to one that requires you to take a helicopter view is tricky. In the podcast, Julia shares how she managed that transition. Focus on having the right people in place for the business. You want people who want your job and can fill any gaps. We all need to call out sexism and racism to make sure that it is not normalised. Be yourself and recognise that nobody can be perfect. Be clear about where your focus needs to be. In the podcast, Julia shares some tips to help you to do this. Never be afraid to admit you don´t know how to do something and ask for advice. Don’t be afraid of being honest. Regular, honest, and open communication has been crucial for navigating the pandemic. Do your research before speaking to the press. You must know your subject. Check the news stream before an interview to pick up on shifts and anticipate what you may be asked during an interview. Not being afraid to fail creates opportunities that would not otherwise be available to you. Go for it, because if you don´t someone else will come along and take your spot. BEST MOMENTS ‘I have no issue at all around saying to people, I have no idea what to do here and taking advice.’ ‘Think about those things that you can actually make an impact with and what you can control.’ ‘Don´t be afraid to fail.’ ‘Out of all of those challenges, there is always opportunity.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 165How to Turn a Pandemic Into An Opportunity

In this episode, Jeannette speaks about turning adversity into opportunities, which is something many people were surprised to find was possible during the CoVid pandemic. Jeannette takes a look at some of the main issues most businesses faced and shares how some were able to find solutions, which gave them a competitive edge. In the podcast, Jeannette demonstrates how some of her mentor clients have done that. Then goes on to share the details of her new Business Discovery Session she is running to help others to do the same. KEY TAKEAWAYS During the pandemic, some business sectors were decimated. But others thrived. You cannot ignore the challenges you face. But you also need to look for opportunities in every situation. Businesses have learned to sell in different ways. Anyone can learn how to spot the opportunities that business challenges create and take advantage of them. BEST MOMENTS ‘There are more millionaires and billionaires made during a recession than there are during the good times. ´ ‘They are coming out of this crisis much leaner than they ever would have been.’ ‘If you have cash, there has never been a better time to supercharge your business.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. In this episode, Jeannette talks to Billy Schwer, the Former British, Commonwealth, European, and World Boxing champion. He explains how he reached the top and what he learned along the way. Lessons that he is now sharing with others through his motivational speaking and his new book Man Up – The World Champion Way. They also discuss his personal performance coaching and his 12-week coaching program. Billy speaks about the difficulties of his boxing journey. As well as how he became a success in business and an author despite ADHD and dyslexia. They talk about how the urge to win, led to him being unfeeling, selfish, and inconsiderate. Something that he has since been able to change and is now helping others to do too. KEY TAKEAWAYS You´ve got to be powerful in the face of adversity. That means letting go of things that go wrong and moving on. Having a strong team around will help you to succeed. Surround yourself with the right people. Life-changing decisions are hard to make. Ep 163The Biggest Mistake That Cost Me 7 Figures

In this episode, Jeannette talks about a mistake that she made, many years ago, which led to her losing out on 7 figures. On the surface, it looks like a small mistake, but Jeannette digs a little deeper and shares what was really behind that error. In the process highlighting things that we all need to think about to make sure that we are not prone to doing something similar. As well as how she rectified that mistake. In the process, she transformed her work and personal life and within a short space of time set up several successful businesses. Doing so in a way that generates truly passive income. KEY TAKEAWAYS Because of inflation, money in the bank that is not earning interest is losing value. Don´t focus all of your efforts on making money for other people. Everyone needs to think about the long-term. Don´t beat yourself up about the mistake. Instead, take action to ensure your decisions and actions are better moving forwards. Jeannette explains how she did exactly that. BEST MOMENTS ‘Now, that sounds like just one mistake, but actually, there were several parts within it. ´ ‘I was too short-termist. I was very much in the here and now.’ ‘You need different mentors and coaches for different aspects of your business, your life, and your career.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 156Launching and Running Multiple Successful Businesses with Steven Pardoe

In this episode, Jeannette talks to Steven Pardoe who is the managing director of DOMO Developments. They provide both investors and owners with safe, secure, and calculated property investment opportunities. He explains how he started in sales, then set up multiple successful international businesses before switching direction and getting involved in the property industry. Steven explains why entrepreneurs need to become comfortable with selling – themselves, their ideas, their accommodation, or other product or service. They discuss many subjects, including, how to set up a strong business partnership, hire the right people, retain your staff, and recognize a sound investment. KEY TAKEAWAYS Property businesses have fewer overheads and are simpler than many other business models. We are all selling, all of the time. Even if it is just sharing our opinion. When you do that, you are selling your take on things to the listener. Selling is not sleazy. It is normal, get comfortable with it and learn to be good at it. Working in other countries or with international partners is a great way to expand your horizons, improve your communication skills and be able to work with anyone. Most property-related business models create positive cash flow. Once you are established it becomes easier to do big projects, which has many benefits that Steven explains in the podcast. Spend money at the start to start your business properly. When you fail, learn from it. Often, it is your failures that teach you the most. Most businesses plateau and you lose enthusiasm after 5 to 7 years. Plan to sell before that happens. Give your staff what they want. Don´t assume that is always more money, it could be flexible working so they can spend more time with their families. Know from day one what you and each partner is responsible for. Put in place formal legal agreements that also cover how things will be handled should things go wrong. Take time for your family. Be brave enough not to automatically listen to the opinions of others. BEST MOMENTS ‘Everyone sells, I just don´t think they really admit it. ´ ‘Everything for us has always been about positive cash flow.’ ‘One of my biggest mistakes has been staying in businesses too long and not having an exit.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 155Is Fear Holding You Back?

In this episode, Jeannette talks about facing your fears. Why it is really important to understand this natural reaction and learn how to stop your fears from holding you back. She explains how to face your fears and choose a different response. One that will enable you to deal with problems positively and succeed regardless. It is an easy-to-follow five-step process. KEY TAKEAWAYS Fear elicits two responses. Typically, fight or flight. Fear can stop you from getting started or lead to you failing at the first hurdle. Anyone can learn to face their fears and choose a different response. The moment you feel panic setting in, pause and reset. Stop thinking about the potential negative impact of what you are about to do. Focus on the positive instead. Break things down into easy to achieve steps. Then, follow them one after another. BEST MOMENTS ‘Fear is a really natural reaction…. but it can hold you back. ´ ‘Focus on what you’ve got to gain, rather than on what you’ve got to lose.’ ‘Failure is learning.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 154My Mum Doreen Linfoot - My True Inspiration

When Jeannette interviewed her mum for episode 132 of the Brave Bold Brilliant podcast, she received many positive comments. So many, that they decided to do it again. In this episode, Doreen shares more details of her life. Painting a picture of how the way life was just after the war pushed people to have a positive mindset, to push on regardless, to cope with going without while building a strong future for their families. They also talk about the world of work. How women coped with the lack of career opportunities. As well as how Doreen´s independent spirit led to her running two businesses and investing in a holiday cottage at a time when very few women did so. They discuss how to ensure that you do not hold yourself back, nor allow the way society is structured to do so. KEY TAKEAWAYS After the war, rationing meant that people got used to going without. There were no real opportunities for women. At the time keeping a house took up a huge amount of time because there were no mod-cons. People got on with things even when times were tough, taking positive action regardless. Running a business without partners gives you the freedom to be in charge of your destiny. If you can afford to do so, go it alone when you set up your first business. It is less restrictive. Take lots of business advice but try to be the one that makes the decisions. Don´t over-stretch yourself financially when setting up your business, it just puts you under unnecessary pressure. Never use money that you cannot afford to do without. Don’t say anything about your plans until you have made up your mind. If necessary, take independent action to ensure nobody puts you off of following your plan. BEST MOMENTS ‘After WWII … no matter how wealthy you were you really didn’t have anything because there was nothing to have. ´ ‘I can´t understand why people moaned about kids, you weren´t angels but you were interesting.’ ‘Employ people, but don´t have them as a business partner. It’s too restrictive.’ ‘Nobody knows better than you…I think you’ve got to trust your instincts.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 151Are You Just Surviving or Thriving?

In this episode, Jeannette asks everyone a particularly important question – are you just surviving or thriving? She explains how she ended up doing exactly that for a time. For example, despite having a first-class honours degree in economics she still spent time waiting tables and cleaning just to survive. Jeannette shares the tactics she used to get out of that situation. Ten simple things that have helped her through other issues, so that she has been able to thrive. All of which you can also easily implement. KEY TAKEAWAYS If you know that you have more potential within, you can fulfil it. You can create wealth that enables you to live the life that you want. Be clear on what you want. Take a hard look at who you are spending time with, walk away from those who pull you down or who are toxic. Educating yourself is an investment. Mentors enable you to step up to the next level. Read and listen to podcasts to expand your mind. Embrace failure as learning. You have to put the time into personal development to be able to thrive. Everyone has greatness inside them. BEST MOMENTS ‘Be the best version of yourself. ´ ‘If you want to thrive and not just survive you have to put the time in.’ ‘It’s all about being brave and bold, when you do that, you unlock your brilliant.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 150Follow Your Passion and Curiosity to Lead a Fulfilling Life with Yulia Denisyuk

In this episode, Jeannette talks to Yulia Denisyuk who is an award-winning travel photographer and writer with a special interest in stories about artisan crafts and ancient traditions. She explains why despite having an MBA in marketing and strategy and a highly successful career working for large corporations, she gave it all up to put travel, her passion, at the centre of her life. Yulia and Jeannette talk about how to find the courage to make transformative changes in your life. How to develop the resilience and tenacity to stop listening to the negative voices of others and to deal with imposter syndrome. So that you can switch to doing work that feeds you rather than drains you. Yulia talks about her Genius Women masterclass and the role mentors have played in her life. As well as providing advice to help anyone who wants to make a living from writing, photography, or their travels, to do so. KEY TAKEAWAYS We all tend to automatically follow the most clearly defined path – get good grades, take a corporate job, get a mortgage, etc. Social pressure plays a big role in pushing us to do what everyone else does. Everyone is different. For some people doing well at a corporate job is their passion. Don´t compare yourself to others – row your own boat. Not doing something that you are passionate about is soul-destroying. Role models and mentors help you to get to where you want far faster. Imposter syndrome can really hold you back. Don´t give up too early. Be consistent, stubborn, keep going and keep learning. Remember how you spend your days is how you spend your life. Travel writers need humility, curiosity, tenacity, and the ability to pursue the story. In the podcast, Yulia explains how to get started in the field. Believe in yourself, follow your why, and take action consistently. If you do not yet have a passion. Follow your curiosity instead. Everyone has something special to offer – jewels inside. Recognise them and share them with everyone. BEST MOMENTS ‘I left my corporate life behind, and I dedicated all of my subsequent journey to figuring out how I can do the lifestyle where travel is at the centre of it. ´ ‘When you try something new, it’s important not to get discouraged too soon.’ ‘The only way to get that experience is to start doing.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Yulia was born in Kazakhstan, grew up in Estonia, and is based in the United States. Ep 149How to Create a Breakthrough

In this episode, Jeannette talks about how to create breakthroughs. She explains why we sometimes get stuck and how to break free of that state. Enabling you to either make a start on something important or get things moving again if your progress is slow or you have stalled. What you will learn in this episode will enable you to make step changes in your life, instead of continuing to just nibble around the edges, or slide backward. This is something Jeannette has personally used to breakthrough, find success, and go from zero to millions. KEY TAKEAWAYS Everyone occasionally gets stuck in life, e.g., they can´t secure a promotion. That includes highly successful people. Are you telling yourself the right story? In the podcast, Jeannette explains what that means and why it is so important. Most people are holding themselves back without realising they are doing so. This approach works for your personal life as well as your business life. Your state of mind, health, and well-being all play a role in the type of energy you have. Learn to change your state. Ep 148Raamon Newman - From 10 Years a Monk to New Maverick

In this episode, Jeannette talks to Raamon Newman the co-founder and CEO of New Mavericks, which is a global leadership development consultancy. He has led an eclectic life as a pro-level athlete, meditating monk, author, and business leader. During his 10 years as a monk, he learned how to still his mind, find fulfilment and help others to do the same. Before co-founding his consultancy. Raamon and Jeannette discuss how learning to relax on a much deeper level, relieves emotional tension, which naturally leads to achievement. Something that Raamon has been teaching business leaders for many years. Including one CEO who took his business from 1 billion to 7 billion in just 7 years. Raamon explains how ordinary people can engage their leadership mind and shares details of the new App he is launching to help them to do exactly that. KEY TAKEAWAYS Most of us chase achievement, hoping that we will feel fulfilled, which is the wrong way around. When you have inner fulfilment, achievement follows naturally. When your mind is settled, you experience very little emotional tension, which leads to calmness even when under great stress. Having a strong clear vision is a far more effective persuader than any verbal argument you present. Clarity of mind enables you to see opportunities sooner and know what steps you need to take. When you are who you really are at the deepest level, you spontaneously take the right action. Our vision and our purpose are really an extension of who we are. Everyone has a purpose, but that purpose is always evolving. When you make a decision make sure that you really believe in it yourself. In business, most decisions are made on how you feel. You rarely have all of the information, so you have to go with your gut. Too many of today´s business leaders are actually followers that don´t make empowering evolutionary decisions for themselves. They default too much to what they hear in the media. People now want to take care of their minds just as much as they do their bodies. If you see something that you like in life, be bold, and go grab it. BEST MOMENTS ‘Achievement comes and goes … the ultimate goal is fulfilment.’‘The more you can see something in yourself the more likely you can help others to see it too.’‘Follow your own innate nature.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 146How to Get Out of Your Own Way and Go For It with Wayne Smith

In this episode, Jeannette talks to Wayne Smith the CEO of Olympia Boxing CIO, who is also a multiple business owner and entrepreneur. Wayne explains how boxing inspired him to transform himself from being a young man who used drinks and drugs and was not interested in school into becoming an England coach and community leader. A journey that led to him founding Olympia Boxing CIO, which is helping people of all ages to improve their lives too. He explains what makes a good coach and how that skill set can be used to build a successful business. Wayne also talks about his Boxing for Parkinson´s sessions and the work he and his team do with schools. He and Jeannette also discuss how he is using his property business to create financial security for his family while providing affordable homes in the community. This podcast contains invaluable information that anyone can use to build a business and create security for their families. KEY TAKEAWAYS Get out of your own way. Don´t hold yourself back – what´s the worst that can happen.... you fail and have to get a regular job? Ignore the doubters, especially the ones that have not even attempted what you are planning to do. There is always something new to learn, regardless of how experienced you are. Everything is constantly changing. Invest in yourself. It will take time and cost money, but always pays dividends. If you take a course or follow a business model and discover that it is not for you. Learn from it and use that for the next thing. Everyone employs personal trainers to get them fit. We all need mentors to do the same for us in business. Don´t compare yourself to others, stay focused on yourself and your goals. Set aside time for your family. Make that non-negotiable. For Parkinson’s intense exercise has been proven to delay the onset of symptoms, which is why Wayne runs boxing sessions for sufferers. If you want to invest in property, educate yourself first. A good coach will draw the best out of someone. When coaching someone you need to understand them and adapt your approach to what they need. BEST MOMENTS ‘Anything is possible for anyone…they just have to get out of their own way and go for it.’ ‘Anything can be rebuilt.’ ‘Any amount of money that you invest in yourself, is money that is well invested.’ ‘We all employ personal trainers to get us fit. We all need mentors to help us through business.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 145Me interviewed for On a Mission podcast with Ellie McKay

In this packed episode, Jeannette is interviewed by Ellie McKay of the On a Mission podcast. Jeannette shares details of her early life, education and more. Explaining how despite getting a first from Leeds University she still suffered from imposter syndrome. She explains how she turned that, and class prejudice, on their head, and used them to drive her forward. Jeannette also talks about working at a high level in a male-dominated environment and how mentors helped her to make step changes in her career. She explains why she left the corporate world to work with her other half, Chris. Including, how they avoid friction, divide up the workload and maintain a good work/life balance. Jeannette and Ellie also discuss where the biggest business opportunities are likely to be over the coming decade. KEY TAKEAWAYS When Jeanette started work, regional and class prejudices were still prevalent. As was sexism. Imposter syndrome is something most of us suffer from. In the podcast, Jeannette explains how she was able to largely overcome it. Being yourself is important, trying to play a role is exhausting and pointless because you always get found out. Be positive, if in your mind you are expecting problems you are almost setting yourself up for that to be the case. You don´t need to be an alpha female to be able to secure senior roles SAS software and those businesses that simplify and streamline tasks and processes are doing especially well. Demand for flexible office space is growing as people tweak the way they work remotely. Each time Jeannette has had a mentor it has enabled her to make a step-change in her career. Dividing the workload clearly and each person playing to their strengths makes it much easier to run a business with your life partner. Good communication enables you to solve anything. Believe in yourself, everything starts with the internal you. BEST MOMENTS ‘If you walk into a room thinking there will be a problem, there probably will be. ´ ‘How I start my day is really important. I am fiercely protective of my first hour of the day.’ ‘I genuinely have found something that I love…with podcasts it was an unexpected love.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 144Create Healthy Habits by Joining Forces with Others with Michael Goldstrom

In this episode, Jeannette talks to Michael Goldstrom who is the founder and CEO of GetMotivatedBuddies. He explains how his battle with ADHD and what he learned while working as an actor, narrator, and voice artist combined to inspire him to set up a new style of support network. One that is based on behavioural psychology and has already helped nearly 15,000 people to achieve difficult goals that many had failed to achieve previously. Michael explains how acting taught him to look at and understand the motivation of the characters he played. A skill he was then able to use on himself to identify what was holding him back. He and Jennette discuss the methods he then employed to break bad habits and finally move forwards. If you have difficult goals that you are struggling to achieve this podcast will be helpful. KEY TAKEAWAYS We can all develop into the person we want to be. Explore ways of managing your life to find what works for you. Most people suffer from information overload. The way social media algorithms work is leading to people living a life that does not align with their core beliefs. Michael explains why that is in the podcast. Not being able to filter out things so you can focus on what is important leads to information overload and physical issues. As you progress towards your goals evaluate how you are feeling as well as how you are progressing. Having buddies to support you through change greatly improves your chances of succeeding in forming a new positive habit. View yourself holistically, often improving one thing will have a positive impact on multiple areas of your life. GetMotivatedBuddies is aligning people who want to help people, with those who are actively seeking that kind of support. The platform does much more than just provide accountability partners. It also challenges you and does so in a positive way. BEST MOMENTS ‘There are three steps – human belief, direction (a goal), and steps that take you there.’ ‘The misalignment of our daily actions with our beliefs is precisely why people are lonelier.’ ‘It´s very important to have a system in place to evaluate where we are at in life and check how we´re feeling.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 143Act NOW don't be an emotional mess when dealing with change

In this episode, Jeannette talks about managing change. In particular, how to overcome some of the barriers we create for ourselves that make it harder for us to move forwards. Ways to stop yourself from getting in your own way. She takes you through the 5-stage emotional curve most of us follow when dealing with change. Helping you to be aware of it, so that you are better equipped to manage change far better so that you can progress in your business and personal life far faster. KEY TAKEAWAYS There is a 5-stage emotional curve that most people naturally follow when dealing with change. Jeannette explains what that curve looks like and the best way to navigate and harness those emotions to make things easier. Change is the only constant in our lives. In our personal and work lives things are in an almost constant state of flux. Equipping yourself to deal successfully with change is essential. We all move from feeling positive about something new to informed pessimism, then seeing the downside. Jeanette explains how not to give up at that stage. Returning to your comfort zone means you just have to start again, later. BEST MOMENTS ‘It is not that people don´t like change. I think it´s more that we're not always equipped with the tools to help us to cope. ´ ‘Embrace change and benefit from it.’ ‘Have a strong vision…it will help pull you through the tough times.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 142John McEwan Travel Industry Legend the Secrets to his Success

In this episode, Jeannette talks to John McEwan who has had an illustrious career across Thomas Cook, TUI, the Advantage Leisure Group. As well as working with the banking sector and being the chairman of ABTA and trustee of ABTA Lifeline. An organisation that was set up to help travel industry workers who are in need of help. He now does a huge amount of non-exec director work, as a portfolio executive. He and Jeannette talk about his extremely varied career and the lessons he learned along the way. In particular, the ones that can be applied across all industries and at every level. As well as, how events in his early life, for example, his father going blind overnight, impacted his approach to his career. As well as how he navigated difficult events like 9/11 and managing taking millions out of a company to set it back on its financial feet. KEY TAKEAWAYS People rarely understand the level of skills they have. Understand the value of consensus. Don’t let not having a degree hold you back. Block out time in your diary to spend time with your customers and frontline workers, even when you reach board level. Good communication is the most important aspect of leadership. No matter how big a business is you can always innovate, do better and offer something special. As a non-exec, a lot of what you are doing is about influencing people, rather than telling them what to do. Influencing starts with getting the other party to open their mind to the possibilities. Most of the time they almost lead themselves to the same conclusion as you. Unleashing the potential of your team, automatically unleashes the potential of your business. Find someone that can act as a mentor for you, even on an informal basis. Be brave. Be prepared to take some risks. BEST MOMENTS ‘I made mistakes along the way, but I learnt from them. ´ ‘If you’re not communicating well, then, it’s incredibly difficult to take the organisation with you.’ ‘In order to unleash the potential in your business, you’ve got to unleash the potential in the team.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 141Putting Parkinsons on Top of The World with Alex Flynn

This episode is extra special. It’s with great regret that I have to let you all know that unfortunately Alex passed away recently whilst he was in Nepal. Alex was an incredible human being and a force for good in this world. His legacy in raising awareness for Parkinsons will continue through his family, friends, the charities that he supported and all those who’s lives he touched. For me it was a particular honour to be able to speak with Alex and help spread the word about Parkinsons which was so important to him. For that reason I wanted to re-release this episode that we recorded back in March this year, in Alex’s honour. Please continue to support Alex and his family through his website and social media. Alex Flynn one of the bravest, boldest and most brilliant people I have had the privilege to know - rest in peace! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- During the podcast, Alex explains how he achieved that mindset, to help others to do the same and overcome the challenges in their own lives. In 2022, he will be climbing Everest to “put Parkinson´s on top of the world”. Alex talks about how he plans to do that, and the role listeners can play in helping him to achieve that challenge. KEY TAKEAWAYS Parkinson´s affects far more people than you think (1 in 15). It is a debilitating neurological condition that gradually takes away your ability to move and function. People with these conditions lose self-confidence, self-worth, and their position in society. Parkinson´s crushes you physically that can in turn lead to your being crushed spiritually. Despite Parkinson´s Alex has still completed many arduous physical challenges. For some Parkinson´s sufferers crossing their living room is their Everest. Setting and achieving smaller physical goals generates strength to carry on and achieve the much bigger physical challenges. Seize every opportunity and take it as far as you can go. Strength is not a physical thing. Strength is deciding to never give up and having the courage to take the next step. This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. It’s never too late to be BRAVE and BOLD and unlock your inner BRILLIANCE. Ep 140Follow Your Moral Compass and Never Give up with Shaa Wasmund

In this episode, Jeannette talks to Shaa Wasmund MBE who is the multi-award-winning entrepreneur behind several 7-figure businesses and the PR genius who spent 5 years growing his brand when he was still working from his kitchen table. At 21, she became the youngest licensed female boxing manager and worked with Chris Eubank. Shaa talks about how living in a hostel, then on a council estate, in a single-parent family shaped and inspired her. She shares numerous tips on shaping your life for success and happiness, a subject she has written about extensively. During the podcast, she explains how anyone can get a book published, including how to overcome writer´s block. They also discuss creating generational wealth, building a brand, and following your moral compass, no matter what. KEY TAKEAWAYS The modern habit of only sharing the photoshopped version of our lives is very harmful. Create generational wealth by being savvy about what you do with your money. There is no one size fits all answer. Everyone has a book in them, and it is far far far easier than you think to get it written. Books position you as an expert in your field, which enables you to raise your profile and prices. It is possible to build a business without social, which is good because some demographics are turning their back on social media. Be clear about what your values are and stick to them. Be respectful of other opinions but don’t compromise yourself. If you don´t let people know what you stand for you are easily forgotten. Never give up. Do more of what you love to wake up a different person. Once you earn enough to be happy and comfortable, don´t keep putting yourself under pressure to accrue more money and possesions. BEST MOMENTS ‘Equality and equity are really important to me. ´ ‘I’m not perfect, but determination is something that I’ve got in droves.’ ‘You can build a business however you want to.’ ‘I’ve switched all of my Zoom calls to my phone. I am Zoomed out.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. At 23, she set up her own PR agency and James Dyson (before he was a Sir) became her first client. Shaa helped him grow the Dyson brand from around his kitchen table (and he thanked her by writing her forward to her first book!) Shaa went on to create and sell multiple online businesses as well as running an investment fund for tech start-ups. In 2015 Shaa was awarded an MBE from The Queen for “Services to Business and Entrepreneurship”. It was one of the proudest moments in her life; not for the medal, but the fact she was able to take her adored Nan with her to the Palace with her. In the same year, Shaa quit her job and salary as CEO of her own successful business to pursue the path she had always wanted to follow. She went on to write four straight-talking, bestselling books; Stop Talking, Start Doing; Stop Talking, Start Doing Action Book, Do Less, Get More; and most recently, How To Fix Your Sh*t. In 2017 she launched her thriving online community The 6 Figure Club as well as a suite of online courses to support entrepreneurs who want to increase their income and increase their impact. Ep 139Top Tips for Creating the Life You Love

In this episode, Jeannette talks about how she identified what she genuinely wanted in life. Practical tips, hacks, and strategies that anyone can use to take control and start creating the life they want. Including the vision cascade method, she uses with her mentee clients. KEY TAKEAWAYS We can´t have choices about every aspect of our lives. But there is a huge amount that we can control. If you have a dream, you do not want that to die with you. Once you are clear on where you are heading, it is much easier to get there. Brainstorming all of the things you want to help you to identify your why and where your focus should be. Be fully present. In the podcast, Jeannette explains how to do that. Recognise the joy in the moment and celebrate the little wins, not just the big ones. Stop discussing your dreams and what you are working on with people who are critical or put doubt into your minds. Every day, live a life that you really love. BEST MOMENTS ‘We do have the ability to really focus on what we want in life. ´ ‘Cut out all aspects of your career, your business and your life that do not serve your vision.’ ‘Growth is absolutely critical to happiness.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 138Anna McKay Lawyer to Zeez Sleep - Solving your Insomnia

In this episode, Jeannette talks to Anna McKay who went from being a globally recognised intellectual property lawyer to developing and launching the Zeez Sleep Pebble and Sleep Pad with Steve Walpole. These unobtrusive under the pillow devices use brainwave patterns to promote good sleep, right through the night. Anna explains why she stepped away from the highly enjoyable but stressful work she was doing to develop this sleep product. From childhood, she has been a chronic insomniac. So, she knows from personal experience that their device works. She explains what the product is and how it works. As well as sharing her entrepreneurial journey and some of the lessons she and Steve have learned while launching and developing their product. They also discuss the approach Anna and Steve are planning to use to take the next step. KEY TAKEAWAYS The Zeez devices work by prompting the brain of the user to copy the neural patterns of a sound sleeper. Before using the device, only 38% of testers fell asleep within 15 minutes. After using the Zeez Sleep Pebble, that rose to 81%. 70% of testers woke during the night at least 3 times a week. While using the device only 35% did so. For the device to work fully users need to practice good sleep hygiene. For example, darkening the room properly. In the podcast, Ana goes through several good sleep hygiene habits. Explaining the science behind why they work and are necessary. Sunshine is an important component of sleep hygiene. It plays a role in triggering serotonin. What you eat at breakfast has an impact on whether you can stay asleep. Why that is explained in the podcast. Parents often have to wake for their children. But the quality of their sleep can still be greatly improved. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Don´t inadvertently put barriers in your way when developing a product. It is not a perfect process. Be authentic. BEST MOMENTS ‘(Our device) is quantitively different from other (sleep) devices that work on the brain. ´ ‘Our lifestyle has taken us away from the natural pattern of daylight.’ ‘I was good at relaxing, but I couldn’t sleep.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. She was a chronic insomniac. Five hours of sleep was exceptional, and Anna often didn't sleep for several nights in a row. Acupuncture, massage, Shiatsu, and other therapies helped her to cope, but made little impact on her sleep. She loved her work – it was interesting, demanding, and very high energy: and that kept her awake, however, it was a dangerous lifestyle. One day, a minor workplace irritation made her realise that she didn't want to be a partner in a law firm any longer. She began to work with inventors and gained more control over her life. This change enabled her to address her sleep differently. It became a mission. Eventually, she set up Zeez Sleep with electronics engineer Steve Walpole. Steve and her measured brainwaves, tested and learnt how to encourage our brains to sleep well. They developed, patented, and now sell the Zeez Sleep Pebble. An under the pillow device which mimics the brain activities of relaxation and deep sleep to prompt poor sleepers to adopt a pattern of good sleep. It is a ground-breaking device, with the potential to change the way we sleep and transform lives. The kind of corporate culture in which she worked as a young lawyer, with all-night meetings fuelled by coffee and relaxation predicated on alcohol is unsatisfying and unproductive, but understandable if it seems as if there is no other way. Supporting good sleep is a way to get back balance and change our culture. Ep 137How to Create a Killer Strategy For Your Business, Career & Life

In this episode, Jeannette explains how to create a strategy for your business. One that will ensure that you and your team are focusing on the things that will grow and sustain your business. The process she outlines, in this episode, can also be used for your personal life and career development. She starts by explaining some of the jargon, then breaks the process of setting up your strategy into easy to implement steps. Then goes on to lay out how to monitor progress and tweak your strategy so that it stays relevant and viable no matter how much things change. KEY TAKEAWAYS A mission statement explains what your business is about – the what. Your vision statement outlines the why, what the purpose is. Only, once you have your mission and vision clearly defined can you create your strategy. (How you are going to get there) You need ideas from your team and stakeholders. Involving them will ensure that they buy into the strategy and deliver on it. Create a macro strategy. Then, micro strategies for each part of the business. Even solopreneurs should have a business strategy. In the podcast, Jeannette lists out what should be included. Every firm needs a marketing strategy that takes account of the economic environment and the state of its market. Knowing your customer, what your competitors are doing and how the market is evolving is vital. Include recruitment and development. Without the right people, you cannot grow. List out the options, then identify the ones that will fit in best with your objective and prioritise those. Delegate ownership and accountability for each part of the strategy. Review at least once a quarter. Having a comprehensive strategy document makes raising finance far easier. BEST MOMENTS ‘A good business will have a mission statement that explains succinctly what your about as a business. ´ ‘It doesn´t matter the size of the business, having a strategy is always a good thing.’ ‘When you develop your strategy…I would definitely recommend that you bring the team with you, get their ideas.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 136Farah Nanji - DJ Ninja Transforming Your Mind with the Power of Music & Sport

In this episode, Jeannette talks to the DJ, motorsports entrepreneur, musician, and public speaker Farah Nanji. She explains how a passion for karting and playing Spanish guitar helped her to overcome bullying and dyspraxia which is a developmental coordination disorder. An experience that inspired her to use those talents to help others to overcome adversity and find their way in life. Including helping companies to use sport to build, develop and inspire their teams. She explains how being diagnosed with dyspraxia affected her and the approach she took to minimise the negative impact it has on her. KEY TAKEAWAYS Music can transport you to another place and have a healing effect. Sport is about communication, about teamwork, breaking through your limits and being on the edge the whole time. You really can rewire the brain via sport and music. Meditation and yoga are powerful tools that anyone can use. Pushing yourself to do the things that are hardest for you is a sure way to get better at them. Diversity is important, make sure you encourage it by opening the door for others. If you believe in something, do it. Life is too short not to. Don’t let fear stop you from starting. Every successful person will have experienced failures. Social media is powerful but getting out there and meeting your audience or customer is still vital. Be yourself, people are going to judge you regardless. You can be good at several things. But it is best to focus on building up expertise in one thing at a time. BEST MOMENTS ‘The music that I select, and curate means something to people. It takes them to another place. ´ ‘Taking care of your body and mind is so important.’ ‘Value every single day. Just seize that day.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 135Screw It Just Do It - Me Interviewed by Alex Chisnall

In this episode, Jeannette is interviewed by Alex Chisnall from the Screw It Just Do It podcast. They discuss how to get your business ready to respond to any scenario or change in market conditions. They also cover how to put the right protocols in place, test and adapt them as the way the world works changes. How to recognise opportunities and be ready to take advantage of them. As well as spotting changes that may make it harder for you to compete, so you can quickly adapt and maintain market share. KEY TAKEAWAYS Taking stock is step one of managing a crisis. Stay calm, don´t spook your team and make a firm decision. Don’t procrastinate. Communication is key. Document protocols for all sorts of scenarios. Test and update them once a quarter. Market dynamics can change fast. Have processes in place to spot market shifts so that you are ready for trouble. Or, when that change is in your favour, to take advantage. When you see an opportunity, move fast. Get a minimal product out there. Then test, evaluate and learn. Prioritise innovations and opportunities then focus on them. In the podcast, Jeannette explains the 70/20/10 rule she uses to work out how to allocate resources. To be able to respond fast, you need to hire and develop the right people. Create the right culture for your team to perform at their best. Even solopreneurs can sit down once a month, create a bit of headspace to innovate and prioritise. Change is normal, so your business should be ready to cope with it. Often, the people who are dealing directly with your customers are the ones that have the best ideas. BEST MOMENTS ‘Being a leader is all about making decisions with the information you have at the time, even if that´s imperfect information. ´ ‘Have a sense of calm, have the right people around you, make a decision and have a clear action plan.’ ‘Often, it´s about getting a minimal viable product out there. Ep 134Change Your Game with Baiju Solanki

In this episode, Jeannette talks to Baiju Solanki. He explains how he went from teaching psychology to successfully negotiating huge sales deals. But realised that despite his great success that it didn´t “feed his soul”. A realisation that led to him radically changing his life, starting his own business, and fulfilling his dreams. He shares tips and approaches anyone can use to do the same for themselves. Baiju also explains how he coaches corporate leaders. Providing an insight into some of the leadership and performance issues many of them have. As well as some of the solutions he teaches. KEY TAKEAWAYS Don´t ignore that nagging feeling that you are not fulfilled. Take action to change that. Write down everything that is holding you back. The practical reasons as well as the intangible ones e.g., my family would not approve. Decide on what actions you need to take to solve them. Then physically take one or more of those actions. Mindset is vital. It really is possible to hold yourself back You have to adapt. Your goals can stay the same, but how you get there will almost certainly have to change and evolve. Identify something that you can easily change to make a positive difference and do it immediately. That will enable you to get started and gain momentum. If members of your team are regularly making the same mistakes, that is down to you as a leader. How you can break that negative cycle is explained in the episode. Before having difficult conversations, identify what your perfect outcome would be. Don´t have conversations about issues without having identified some sort of viable solution. If things are not working out for you, do something that is going to change your energy e.g., start exercising. BEST MOMENTS ‘Take an action. It is only in that moment of action that an outcome occurs.’ ‘Your level of success and affluence is not determined by your past; it is determined by your choices now.’ ‘The difference between those who are good, great and highly excellent is the consistency and or persistence. ´ ‘Don´t ask a question and answer it yourself. Ep 133How to Become a Master Remote Networker!

In this episode, Jeannette talks about networking effectively for your business particularly whilst working remotely. Most of her ten tips won´t take long to implement. Plus, many of them will still work well even if you revert to working out of an office or other type of business premises. KEY TAKEAWAYS Don´t underestimate the power of networking. Make time for it. Regularly review who you have been in touch with over the past couple of months and who you haven´t spoken to in a while. Prioritise speaking to those people who are most important to your business. That could be clients, suppliers, mentors, or team members. Regularly check that you have invited everyone important to join you via social media. Remember that networking is reciprocal. Tap into new technologies. Create catalysts for conversation. This is a particularly good approach for remaking a connection that may have waned. BEST MOMENTS ‘Come up with a hit list of people that you really do need to connect with. ´ ‘Don´t give up on the networking and the communication.’ ‘Remember that we all like human contact, we all really respond to that interaction.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. In this episode, Jeannette sits down to talk to the woman in her life that has inspired her the most - her mum Doreen. They talk about what life was like when she was growing up, in the 1930s and 40s. In the 1930s and 40s, pierced ears were seen as old-fashioned. Doreen explains why in the podcast. The past can be a major source of inspiration. Some of what we think of as new innovations are simply things that were popular years ago. Ep 126Juha Jarvinen Chief Commercial Officer - Flying High with Virgin Atlantic

In this episode, Jeannette talks to Juha Jarvinen, Chief Commercial Officer of Virgin Atlantic. Juha has had a stellar career in the aviation industry over the past 3 decades. During that time, he has worked mainly in transformational roles, helping businesses to change direction and adopt new ways of working, so Juha is most certainly the epitome of Brave, Bold, Brilliant. He and Jeannette discuss how Juha successfully led his teams through drastic changes, empowering them to overcome what were sometimes huge challenges. They talk particularly about how Virgin Atlantic weathered a massive restructuring in 2020 and navigated through the stormy skies during the CoVid pandemic. Juha also shares what it is like to be a gay man working in the travel industry and how he is a passionate champion for diversity and inclusion. KEY TAKEAWAYS People will push back at times of change, but this can be used in a positive way to energise you. Conflict and disagreements give you the chance to pause, re-look and re-plan when necessary. Having people working in a company who genuinely love the brand is of great benefit. In times of crisis, regular and honest communication is vital. Working 24/7 is not sustainable - you need to take time off so you can stay afloat and be there for your team. Crises also create opportunities. Manage your time and energy, for example, stop working early enough for it not to negatively impact your sleep. To be at your best, you need to be yourself. Bringing your whole self to work is paramount so that you don't feel you have to live a double life. BEST MOMENTS 'I don’t get energy out of conflict, but it does give me the energy to go back, re-plan and redo' 'During a crisis, you can end up working 24/7, but you can´t do that. If you don´t stay afloat, nobody survives' ‘Never underestimate the importance of sleep and exercise' 'Be your true self' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 124Chris Wilkins FCCA - Making Tax Interesting!

In this episode, Jeannette talks to Chris Wilkins FCCA, who is a Chartered Certified Account and the founder of Wilkins Southworth. Chris has spent 30+ years working in the field. During that time, he has always sought out new challenges, which has enabled him to build up an incredible level of knowledge. As an example, he became the tax advisor for the largest landowner in Bucharest, Romania, has successfully represented many people at hearings with the General Commission and provided advice on worldwide trust structures. Chris shares details that will be of particular interest to property owners and entrepreneurs who rent their property out in some way. He provides an overview of capital allowances. Including how you can take advantage of them to legally save yourself tens of thousands in tax payments. He also touches upon company structure, capital gains tax and shares his take on how the tax landscape is likely to change, over the next few years. KEY TAKEAWAYS A lot of accountants do not spend any time working out how their clients can take full advantage of any legislative or rule changes. Often, they give incomplete advice. Before starting a business or buying an asset speak to an experienced accountant about how to structure things. Any advice that has not looked at the long term and includes consideration of an exit strategy is not likely to be sound. Many businesses are not claiming capital allowances, which could potentially be offset against tax. The tax liabilities for commercial properties are very different to those for residential properties. The tax burden will likely rise, and many exemptions and reliefs will disappear. In the podcast, Chris looks at the impact wage inflation, labour shortages, potential tax changes and inflation will have. The best time to start a business is now. Build some comfort into your cash flow and have a contingency. Educate yourself. Once you have a good understanding you can obfuscate risk and move quickly to mitigate any negative situations. BEST MOMENTS ‘If you don’t consider it, because your thinking is too narrow, that is when issues arise.’ ‘You´ve got to do the numbers on that exit calculation as compared to whether you want to suffer the income tax now.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. He has been working in the field for more than 30 years and has clients spread across the world. He has provided tax advice to people at all levels of business. Everyone from start-up entrepreneurs to some of the world’s biggest landowners and business owners. At the age of 32, he took a due diligence team to Guyana with Lord Beaverbrook and dealt with the purchase of the Demerara Sugar Company, a timber mill and 250 sq miles of Guyana. This included liaising with the eventual purchaser which was a Dutch Antilles quoted company. He was the international tax advisor to the largest landowner in Bucharest, Romania. Today, he still does a lot of international work alongside working with UK business owners, especially those involved in property. Chris also regularly speaks at Tax Seminars in London sharing how changes to tax legislation can be managed to legally reduce tax and increase profits. Ep 123How to Write a Multi-Million £ Business Plan

In this episode, Jeannette explains how to create a multi-million £ business plan that will ensure that you develop your successful business in a way that improves your chances of success. A document that will act as a guide, enabling you to set the right goals and targets, which will keep you on track for success. Ensuring that you do not waste time, energy, and money heading in the wrong direction. She starts by reviewing why you need a business plan. Then explains how to create one, including some tips and tricks you are unlikely to have heard elsewhere. KEY TAKEAWAYS Don´t be daunted by the idea of creating a business plan. It is far easier than you think. Every enterprise needs a business plan. In the podcast, Jeannette shares 12 good reasons for creating one. Creating and regularly reviewing your business plan, keeps you in touch with your market and forces you to assess your competition. A good business plan makes it far easier to raise finance. Your business plan is also a great messaging tool for your team. It shows them what you are about and where you are heading. Your exec summary should tell the reader what your business is about, how you are performing, where you are heading and what is unique about what you have to offer. In the podcast, Jeannette lists each of the sections you need to include. She explains, in detail, how to write each one. Include what your typical customer looks like, how they behave and what their potential financial value is. You need to identify each member of your leadership plan. Include your financial plan. Jeannette lists out the reports that need to be included in this section. Be sure to review your business plan at least once or twice a year. BEST MOMENTS ‘A business plan provides absolute clarity of your purpose and your vision. ´ ‘Plot where your business sits versus competitors.’ ‘Remember that a business plan reflects your thinking at a specific point in time… review your business planning.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 122Be Yourself, Be Confident and Have a Positive Impact with Caroline Stratchan

In this episode, Jeannette talks to Caroline Strachan, a real powerhouse of a woman, a champion for diversity & inclusion and a fantastic business woman, as the Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Business Travel & Meetings consultancy Festive Road. Gender equality is top of Caroline’s list and believes this is not just a female issue as she covered in her TED X speech!! She explains how she went from being an events manager for Amex to working in the travel industry. Where she took on leadership roles at Cisco, Yahoo, Amex, and several other multinational companies. Caroline and Jeannette discuss the difference between the corporate and entrepreneurial worlds and dive deep into the subject of creating that elusive balance between work and home. KEY TAKEAWAYS Often, people see your capabilities more clearly than you do. Even if you do not have all of the answers, still go ahead and do it. You will learn along the way. Be honest, be yourself and don´t be afraid to admit you have gaps in your skillset or knowledge that you are in the process of filling. Don´t be afraid to ask for help, especially if you are having mental health or emotional issues. Own your confidence. Believe in yourself. Society cannot afford to think of childcare as being the woman´s responsibility. Parents need the freedom to create a family life that works for them. Everyone has things they need to work on and strengths. It has nothing to do with what gender you are. To grow a sustainable business, you need a proper structure and to employ people with the right strengths. Some people you should listen to, others you need to ignore. Being able to recognise the difference is an important skill. Be the best version of yourself. Think about how you are affecting others and aim to have a positive impact on them. BEST MOMENTS ‘Treat others as you wish to be treated. ´ ‘A big part of being able to be brave, bold and beautiful is working on yourself.’ ‘We´ve all got stuff that we need to work on. It´s just so not about gender.’ ‘If you don´t, get that confidence piece worked out, everything else is a bit irrelevant.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Amy and Jeanette share details of some of the lessons they have learned throughout their diverse careers. Ep 120Jamie York Property Investor - Become a Conduit for Energy and Money!!!

In this episode, Jeannette talks to Jamie York. A property investor, speaker, and entrepreneur. He is the co-owner of Aspire Property Group which includes a number of property-based companies including We Sell BMV. Jamie speaks about what drives him. How his ambitions have grown as he has met each of his goals, for example paying for African kids to go through school has turned into wanting to build schools to help more kids. Jamie explains how he builds and maintains momentum, quickly recognises opportunities and uses them to the full. He and Jeannette also discuss money mindset, the power of compounding, KEY TAKEAWAYS Get yourself educated. Jamie has invested £100,00+ in doing this, but he has made that back many, many times. Personal development exposes what is available to you. That makes you grow. It is important to appreciate what you have at the same time as wanting more. For Jamie, having a purpose is what makes him happy. Every person is a conduit of energy and money. Earning more money means you can help more people. You are the average of the five people that you surround yourself with. We all naturally act like those we associate with. Raise your standards. Whatever you set your bar at is what you will get back. When things go wrong, don´t get upset. Just accept it has happened and add something to the process to make sure it does not happen again. Every low point is an opportunity to learn, refocus and experience big highs, as a result. Don’t underestimate the power of compounding. It works in all areas of your life. Not just in money related matters. Be self-aware of who you are. Then constantly act upon it no matter what external factors are thrown at you. BEST MOMENTS ‘You have to have a growth mindset.’ ‘What you can achieve in life is genuinely unlimited.’ ‘There is no such thing as a self-made millionaire. The money I make now is as a result of the incredible team I surround myself with.’ ‘A huge percentage of your learning comes from your losses.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. He is the co-owner of Aspire Property Group which includes a number of property-based companies including We Sell BMV, one of the largest deal sourcing companies in the UK. Jamie grew up in Kent and after some success in trading, purchased his first property at 19 years old with his now business partner: Dan Buchan. With little property experience, his first property purchase wasn't smooth sailing, and Jamie quickly realised he needed to get educated. After growing his property knowledge, Jamie then moved to Yorkshire and set up a Rent-to-Rent company, selling the company after about 4 years, and then forming Aspire Property Group which he has grown over the past 10 years to what it is today. A millionaire at 24 years old, Jamie has grown his property portfolio, and continues to invest and now trains others to enable them to have a firm understanding not only of business and property but also of the mindset that goes alongside being an entrepreneur. Ep 119Rob Slowen - From Entrepreneur to £ Multi-Million Property Investor

In this episode, Jeannette talks to Rob Slowen who owns several diverse businesses and has a property portfolio of 21 residential units. He has experience of taking start-ups from zero to generating millions in revenue. Working as a pharmacist locum enabled him and his partner to travel, gain experience and explore various business models before setting up their own companies. Rob tells Jeannette about some of the issues they have faced as well as sharing details of their achievements. Including why buying abroad went badly wrong for them and how they got out of that situation. They talk about why Rob has decided to exit his business. Including, what he has done over the past few years to enable him to do so in the best way. KEY TAKEAWAYS Setting up businesses and multiple streams of income is hard work. But, in time, it provides you with a high level of freedom. Don´t be afraid to take calculated risks. Considering what would happen in the worst-case scenario will help you to make the right decision. Most of the time, you can go out and get a day job if something goes wrong. Side hustling is a good way of starting a business and hedging your bets. Ideal for the more risk-averse. Putting together a business plan will get you there sooner. It does not have to be a complicated document. Exiting a business is an emotional thing. It is also an event that needs to be planned carefully and in advance. Take the time to prepare everyone for your leaving and to find the right buyer. If there is something you want to do, provided it is realistic, you should do it. Be accountable when things are not going well. BEST MOMENTS ‘You just know that you are going to run your own business. It´s in your DNA. ´ ‘Take calculated risks.’ ‘Never buy off-plan, there´s just too much that can go wrong.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Before this, he played a leading role at PinLocal. There he developed and deployed new tech to enable conveyancers to find new customers and successfully manage each of them. Ep 11821 Years of Advancing Women in Business - Karen Gill and Maxine Benson

In this episode, Jeannette talks to Karen Gill and Maxine Benson. Two friends who created Everywoman. The first online community for women in business. An organisation that provides practical advice, support, and a strong voice for female entrepreneurs everywhere. They explain why they set up the community and how they took it global. Delving deep into how and why they do things as they do. For example, why, initially, they ran women-only leadership workshops. They discuss how the work environment has changed, including the role men are playing in making it easier for women in the workplace. KEY TAKEAWAYS The world has finally woken up to the benefits of diversity, which is starting to help women in business. There are a lot of female entrepreneurs in places like India and North America. Most men now have the same aspirations for their daughters as they do for their sons - that wasn't always the case. Lots of men want cultural change and increasingly want to become effective advocates. Don’t focus on what the circumstances are, instead, focus on what you can do about them. Invest in yourself and get a mentor. Don’t leave yourself at the bottom of the list of priorities. Networking is a critical business skill that you should use internally as well as externally. Networking is a two-way thing. You will be helping the other person as well as yourself. BEST MOMENTS ‘We consciously surround ourselves with people that enable us to go out and serve the business.’ ‘Most male CEOs have got the same aspirations for their daughter as for their sons.’ ‘Utopia would be that there´s no need for diversity programmes.’ ‘When you pour yourself into something, it does get personnel.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 11720 Steps You Need to Take to Set Your Property Business Up

In this episode, Jeannette walks you through the basics of setting up a property business. Her easy to follow 20 steps process is ideal for anyone who wants to get started in this sector or someone that has a small portfolio that they want to scale. She explains how to set yourself up for growth and do it in the right way. Much of what she shares here is not widely spoken about. So, you are bound to learn something by listening. She covers practical things like how to get your business online as well as broader subjects. Such as mindset, financing, networking with agents, accounts and much, much more. KEY TAKEAWAYS It is important to set yourself up properly from day 1. You need to have a vision for yourself and your business. To know what you want to achieve. Work out what your strategy will be e.g., what part of the sector you want to be involved in. Understand the tax situation before you start. That way you will know whether to buy in your name or set up a Ltd business to buy under. Always seek advice from a financial advisor before setting up your business. Keep your business and personal finances completely separate. Look professional. Get business cards, a website, and a properly branded email address. Set up your social media profiles carefully. Jeannette shares some tips for this in the podcast. Get the right mindset. Telling others what you are doing will help you when it is time to find investors. You will need to use other professionals to get things done. Track down those people early, so that when you need them, they are there. Know your numbers. Understand what is profitable and what is not. Networking is vital. Estate agents and others will give you leads for great deals. Jeannette shares an easy way to make the personal connections you need. Have the information and documents that brokers will ask you for easily at hand. When seeking funds understand that you are providing that person with an opportunity, not just asking them for money. BEST MOMENTS ‘Be clear on your vision, clear on your strategy and know where you´re going to invest.’ ‘A lot in business is about mindset. You are what you tell yourself you are, so if you are a business investor, get it on your profile.’ ‘Some estate agents are now asking for proof of funds before you can view a property.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life.
