Ep 194Hiring Talent To Drive Results with Nick Irving, Partner Howgate Sable
In this episode, Jeannette talks to Nick Irving, the Director, and Head of Aviation Practice at Howgate Sable. He explains how they are expanding the business and entering new international markets. They discuss how CoVid has changed the industry and why it has become harder to recruit aviation executives. Nick also talks about how the industry managed during the pandemic. In particular, how they changed the way people worked very quickly and dealt with having to suddenly let a lot of employees go. Nick also shares several tips that anyone who wants to maximize their potential and advance their career can use. KEY TAKEAWAYS Understanding where the business is and what direction they are moving in is an important part of executive recruitment. Sometimes you have to tell a company that they do not pay enough to attract the right types of candidates. The aviation industry is rebounding faster than expected, after CoVid. A lot of talent has left the aviation industry as a result of CoVid. It forced people to re-evaluate how they were living and working. There are lots of jobs out there, but it is really hard to fill those roles with good people. Networking is the key to being noticed and approached when important positions open up. Treat people with the same respect when they leave as you do when you welcome them to your business. To be a good leader you do not have to be academically bright, but you do need to be streetwise. Network, look for opportunities, and accept help from mentors. Know yourself and be true to what you are good at. BEST MOMENTS ‘We will whittle that list down to a shortlist of three or four and present it formally to our customer. ´ ‘If you focus on performance, the results will always come.’ ‘I´ve had mentors all the way through. Sometimes without me even knowing it.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 192Inside Track with Mike Batcup - Architect
In this episode, Jeannette talks to Mike Batcup who is a designer, architect, and the director of Batcup Architecture. He provides an insight into the role an architect plays in helping clients to create new buildings or transform existing ones. Including providing an overview of the main pitfalls involved in this process. Mike shares advice about managing the planning process, budgeting, dealing with the party wall act and several other subjects. He and Jeannette also discuss why investing in property is still worth considering. Including talking about the current state of the UK housing market and what is likely to happen in the near future. KEY TAKEAWAYS Architects guide their clients so that they end up with the building they wanted. The more you tell an architect about what you want to achieve the better the result will be. You need to be flexible when building or reforming a property. Cost analysis and planning are critical. Always slightly overestimate the costs. Never try to shortcut the planning process. Doing so always turns out badly, in the end. The party wall act is there to resolve disputes between neighbours and protects both parties when work needs to be done. The act requires you to notify neighbours of work, but they cannot stop you from doing it. If you invest in property. Over the long term, you will normally make a profit. At some point, the UK property market is likely to slow. In London, the value is not in the bricks and mortar, it is in the land. It is not unusual for people in London to buy property, and then knock it down. Be careful about what you get involved in. Pause regularly and review what you are doing. BEST MOMENTS ‘Part of our job is to show the client that they can actually achieve more than perhaps they were thinking of. ´ ‘Do it properly. Do not try to cut corners.’ ‘Your future will be what you make it.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 191Creating A Truly Customer-Centric Business
In this episode, Jeannette talks about creating a truly customer-centric model for your business. Something that is essential if you want to become the go-to supplier or service provider, grow fast and be able to sustain that growth. Jeannette shares a model that she has used repeatedly, with great success, over the past 27 years while running businesses across several different sectors. A model that she is still using for the three businesses she currently owns and runs. One that can easily be adapted to enable businesses to better understand their customers and work to meet their needs. Turning them into loyal repeat customers. KEY TAKEAWAYS A lot of businesses fail to fully understand their customers. Create products and services that are targeted at the right customer segments at the right time. Differentiate between your different types of customers. Check in with your customers and review your data regularly. Their needs evolve, so you need to keep up with them. Understand the composition of your customer pyramid. Jeannette explains how to do this, in the podcast. Intentionally move your customers up the pyramid to turn them into high-value repeat buyers. Ep 190Changing the Lives of Children with Rare Diseases with Jo Balfour
In this episode, Jeannette talks to Jo Balfour, managing director of The Cambridge Rare Disease Network (CRDN). She explains how she went from being a teacher to setting up and running a charity that provides support for the thousands of people with, often untreatable, rare diseases. She and Jeannette cover a wide range of subjects. They discuss how Jo learned to push herself well beyond her comfort zone to grow her skill set and achieve more within her work life. They talk about, why rare diseases impact far more people than we realise. They discuss the work CRDN, HealX and others do to help people impacted by rare diseases to get their voices heard. An approach that is proving to be highly effective. One that is leading to change. Including better facilities for the disabled, faster diagnosis, more targeted research, new drug, and treatment options. All of this is achieved through rare disease communities that are made up of people who support each other. KEY TAKEAWAYS There are around 8,000 rare diseases. Only 5% can be effectively treated. With rare diseases, data is powerful. If you think something is not quite right health or development-wise, keep a diary of issues. Find your tribe. Seek out others in a similar situation. They will provide highly targeted guidance and support. Get involved, and share. Charities need the experience and voices of the people they are there to help. Eighty percent of rare diseases are genetic, so genome sequencing is proving to be an important diagnostic tool. When running a charity that helps people it is vital to listen to those you are trying to help. When working with large groups of people with quite different needs, find the common threads, the core challenges. When you address and find effective solutions for the core challenges you help everyone. Don´t be afraid to take risks and apply for jobs you are not 100% ready for. Learn on the job. Work collaboratively. Recognise and welcome other people´s skills and experience. If you have a passion that drives you, everything will eventually fall into place. Cash donations and fundraising are great. But giving your time and sharing your skills is also a powerful way to help a charity. Big problems get solved step by step. Take that first step. Start with the basics. BEST MOMENTS ‘I can´t believe I was that brave person who thought I was really ready for those jobs. ´ ‘If you have a passion, the passion will drive your desire to learn.’ ‘Just take a risk, learn on the job. You can almost create a role for yourself.’ ‘Find your community. You are not alone. Ep 183How to Raise Finance with Confidence
In this episode, Jeannette talks about raising finance to fund growth. How to do so with confidence, so that you quickly source the funds you need at the best rates. She starts by looking at the different reasons businesses need finance. Understanding what you want to achieve plays a big role in how you approach the task of doing so. As does whether you want to borrow for the short or long term. How to weigh all of this up and make the right decision is explained, in this episode. KEY TAKEAWAYS Even small business may need to borrow. For example, to cover start-up costs. At some stage, you may need finance to help you with your running costs. Most businesses need extra funds during growth stages. Start with the end in mind. Be crystal clear about what you want to achieve, how you will do it and the costs. Avoid raising too much and wasting money on debt you don´t actually need. Be clear whether you need short or long-term financing. Investors can contribute more than cash to your business. But you have to be extra careful when choosing one. Always know your numbers. BEST MOMENTS ‘To expand your product, your offering geographically often requires finance. ´ ‘Start with the end in mind, be clear about what you want the money for.’ ‘Ask yourself, what is it you´re looking for from an investor, over and above just the money.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 182Free Yourself From Your Past and Excel with Allan Kleynhans
In this episode, Jeannette talks to Allan Kleynhans who has been described as a Lexicon of human development and potential. He has studied psychology, philosophy, the behavioural sciences, and consciousness for 33 years. Now, he is an international motivational speaker and coach. Allan talks about how growing up in apartheid South Africa and his time in the military affected him and led him to working to help others. In the process, becoming a force for good. Allan also speaks about becoming a sought-after public speaker. KEY TAKEAWAYS We all have significant emotional events that shape us as human beings. Even if you are terrified of public speaking, do it. You will grow in confidence and transform your life. When you reach the point where you are comfortable with who you are the world opens up to you. Stop worrying about what people think. They are going to judge you anyway, so just be the best version of yourself. Learning to engage with other people is one of the most powerful things you can do. Get rid of the idea you should not speak to strangers. You have to connect with others to get things done. Everything is energetically connected, so there is always some sort of benefit to whatever we do. Reading is a great way to learn, inspire yourself, and help you to cope with bad times. Be brave enough to be yourself and let your light shine. BEST MOMENTS ‘Growing up in that kind of environment, on the street, is very brutal. ´ ‘I believe, with conviction, ... that every single adversity has within it the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit.’ ‘One of the most powerful things you can do is to learn to speak in public.’ ‘Stop fighting against yourself all the time.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. In this episode, Jeannette talks about evaluating and grabbing opportunities. This dovetails nicely into a previous episode where she explained the various ways you can grow a business. Using the information she provides here, will enable you to be able to quickly determine which options and opportunities are the right ones for you and your business. This is especially important, because, often, we cannot see the wood for the trees. A state of mind that leads to inaction, stagnation, and ultimately failure. Putting what Jeannette shares into action, will ensure that is no longer an issue for you. KEY TAKEAWAYS Very often we can´t see the wood for the trees. We can´t identify the right path, so end up doing nothing or making snap choices. Regardless of the size or type of business, you are running the principles Jeannette shares in this podcast are the same. Identify the inorganic and organic options for growth. Jeannette shares examples and explains how to capture them. Score each opportunity against a list of criteria e.g., setup cost and risk. Give yourself headspace when doing this. The assessment method shared in this episode can also be used to make decisions about which opportunities to pursue in your personal life. Ep 177The best way to scale your business
In this episode, Jeannette covers the subject of scaling a business or a department you run for a large organisation. The advice she shares is from personal experience. She has successfully done both of these, many times throughout her 29-year corporate career. Jeannette has set up, grown, and is currently running three six-figure businesses. She has also supported many of her mentees through the process of massively scaling their businesses. So, you can be sure that the advice in this episode works and is highly practical. She walks you through the options. The different approaches you can use to scale a business. Then, she explains how to choose the ones that will work best for you and the type of company you run. KEY TAKEAWAYS Regardless of the size of a business, the approaches that can be used to scale them are the same. How you can apply them is what determines which approaches should be used and in what order. Making your existing business work harder is organic growth. In the podcast, Jeannette shares 12 of the approaches she has used, including examples. Adding a new form of distribution, e.g., in-store pick-up or selling online enables you to reach new types of customers. Increasing prices to make a higher profit, but doing so without losing customers. Segmenting your customer base improves your understanding of them, then improves your ability to target them effectively. Improving cash flow makes it possible to scale faster. Ep 176Changing The Way Society Handles Menopause with Julie Nunes and Lindsay Garvey-Jones
In this episode, Jeannette talks to Lindsay Garvey-Jones and Julie Nunes. Two inspiring leaders from the travel sector. They talk about, the often-taboo subject of menopause. Something that impacts society as a whole as well as the women who are suffering from the, often debilitating, symptoms of menopause. They do this partly by sharing their own experiences and what is helping them. Including how the menopause has impacted them physically, mentally, and emotionally. In the process of doing that, they discuss, sex during menopause, HRT, herbal remedies, diet, exercise, and sleep. Including talking about the things anyone can do to support themselves while their body adapts. They also discuss how business owners can make, often small changes, to support their employees better. Making it easier for women to continue to work despite their menopausal symptoms. KEY TAKEAWAYS The menopause is not a female-only topic. It affects everyone. Including the family, friends, and colleagues of women who are going through it. There are 35 symptoms of menopause. Being self-aware will help you and your doctor to manage your symptoms. Seek out a GP that understands the menopause. Not all of them do. Mental health is a big issue. Yet, often, the wrong treatment is prescribed. Invest in yourself. You have one body to carry you through life so need to be kind to it. Don´t ignore or just live with vaginal dryness. Doing so can lead to problems with your urinary tract. Speak to your partner about sex and be open to exploring new ways of enjoying sex together. In the UK, 900,000 women have left the workforce due to menopause symptoms. With a little support, many of them could have continued to work and contribute. Currently, most workplaces do not provide support. But this is set to change. How, is discussed in the podcast. There are lots of free things businesses can do to make things easier. Men need support too. Why that is and how they can be supported is discussed in the podcast. BEST MOMENTS ‘The symptoms of the menopause can actually last for up to 20 years. ´ ‘Every single GP practice, in the UK, should have a practitioner that is dedicated to the menopause.’ ‘Men really suffer as well and sometimes feel a bit ashamed that they haven´t supported their partners.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 175Go from impossible to possible thinking to max results
In this episode, Jeannette walks you through how to change your thinking to maximise your results. She explains how you can go from thinking that things are impossible to realising that, with the right approach, most things are actually highly attainable. A change in mindset will enable you to grow and get positive results in your work and personal life. What Jeannette shares in this episode, is the approach she has used to change her own mindset and achieve amazing results. KEY TAKEAWAYS Have a growth mindset instead of a scarcity mindset. Believing that there are no limits for you is an effective way to maximise your potential. When you come up with an idea or goal, don´t immediately try to work out the nitty-gritty of how you will make it happen. If you do that you will quickly feel overwhelmed and give up. Use visualisation to boost your confidence to the point where you understand that you can achieve big positive changes. Armed with that confidence, the steps you need to take will begin to become clear to you. The only limits that exist are the ones we put on ourselves. BEST MOMENTS ‘You can go from impossible to possible, and ultimately generate results, by creating a growth mindset. ´ ‘The art of possibility becomes so compelling that you almost can´t do anything but take action.’ ‘You go from impossible, to possible, to probable and then you just keep pushing through.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 174Stick to Your Values to Create Profitable Deals with Dan Hulbert
In this episode, Jeannette talks to Dan Hulbert, a property entrepreneur, and investor who has been involved in the industry for more than 20 years. During which time, he and his partners have built and run many different kinds of property portfolios. Dan and Jeannette talk about how property networking led to him building his own portfolio. Something he started out by doing, using other people´s money. Dan explains how working on your personal development, knowing yourself, understanding your skillset, and sticking to your values enables you to build a solid business. He also shares several tips that property investors can use to create and seal profitable deals, KEY TAKEAWAYS It is possible to start investing in property, by using other people’s money To be successful in property you need good communication skills because there are a lot of individuals involved in getting a property ready for rent or sale. Work on yourself, regardless of what is going on around you. Don´t be afraid to employ people to do the work for you. Your profits will be lower, but it is better than trying to do it all yourself and failing. The bigger your business gets, the more important it is to have good planning skills. Only work with people that share your values. Don´t be afraid to say no, even to big projects that are not a good fit for you. Always pause and calmly assess each opportunity. But be careful not to overthink. Words are powerful. They make or break deals. Dan shares several examples of how slightly changing what you say makes a positive difference. Understand what the other person wants from the deal you are offering. If you can´t provide it, don´t be afraid to move on to someone else. When hiring builders use recommendations. But still do your due diligence. BEST MOMENTS ‘Networking has always been part of my life. So, I started connecting people, as a business. ´ ‘Working on myself and personal development, for me, is a never-ending pursuit.’ ‘Just make sure that you know what they want and that fits with what you’re offering.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 173De-mystifying Strategic Planning
In this episode, Jeannette explains the difference between strategy, vision, mission, purpose, and values. Helping you work out where to start when it comes to strategic planning and what to focus on to have the most impact. She does this by sharing a very simple way of thinking about how everything hangs together. KEY TAKEAWAYS It is all too easy to get bogged down by strategy planning and implementation. The what is what you are trying to achieve. Your mission and goals. Identifying who is responsible for achieving each goal and how they will do it, is essential. The how, is a roadmap. How you are going to get from point A to point B. A strategy does not have to be complicated. You need an overarching strategy. In addition, you may need to create individual strategies for each area of your business e.g., sales, distribution, etc. BEST MOMENTS ‘We´re talking about the what, why, who, and how of a strategic framework. ´ ‘A good strategy allows people to make decisions and allocate resources to achieve key objectives.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 172Challenge Yourself and Aim High with Roger Flynn
In this episode, Jeannette talks to Roger Flynn who is an investor and Non-Executive Director for a combination of media, technology, and travel businesses. Before this, he enjoyed a long career as an executive for several leading international firms like British Airways, the BBC, and Prudential. Including working for Richard Bransom, from whom he learned a huge amount. They talk extensively about how to make the transition between CEO, chair, and non-exec. Including looking at the differences between the roles. They also discuss the three main things Roger looks for when deciding which businesses to invest in. He also explains how business owners can make their company look more attractive to potential investors. KEY TAKEAWAYS Don´t waste time and energy trying to be something you are not. Know yourself and stick to your values. Do what you are really interested in, when you do you will stay engaged and do well. You cannot afford to surround yourself only with people who think like you. If you do, it is impossible to make balanced decisions. Potential investment businesses must be operating in markets that have positive characteristics. Before investing, look at the management team and ask yourself whether they have the necessary skills to step up when the business takes off. Starting with the end goal in mind will help you to make good decisions. When seeking investment, make sure that the way you and your investors work is aligned. Don´t be afraid of failure or of managing radical change. If you trust people to do amazing things, they will never let you down. BEST MOMENTS ‘Be yourself. If you try to be something different you are just going to trip over yourself. ´ ‘If you surround yourself with people like you… you´re not going to make the best decisions.’ ‘Aim for the moon because you might just get there.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 170Justine Nunn Raising Awareness - How Parkinson’s Affects Families
In this episode, Jeannette talks to Justine Nunn, whose partner Alex Flynn recently passed away, from altitude sickness, just after he had summited Mira Peak, in Nepal. Alex had Parkinson´s, but he did not let that stop him from living his life to the full and helping others. He worked tirelessly to raise awareness and provide practical support to those living with Parkinson´s. Justine was with him every step of the way. She is now working to carry Alex´s legacy forward. Jeannette and Justine talk about how Alex found the strength to run through Jungles, across America, London, Rome, and ultra-marathons, despite his disease. They talk about the symptoms of this extremely common disease and what to look out for. Justine also explains how she, Alex, and their boys adapted to the impact Parkinson´s had on their family lives. Justine also talks about how society treats people with the disease and how things need to change. KEY TAKEAWAYS One in 15 people will be diagnosed with Parkinson´s and the numbers are growing. Parkinson´s affects people of all ages. It is not an old person´s disease. It cannot be cured. But it can be managed through diet and exercise. Parkinson´s is a personal journey. It is different for everyone. People with Parkinson´s can be fully productive members of staff. Often, with only minor adaptations. For Alex, a qualified lawyer, getting a job was impossible. This is often the case for people with Parkinson´s. Often, it is little tweaks in the way things are done that make a big difference to how easy it is for people with Parkinson´s to live their lives. BEST MOMENTS ‘There was no challenge that wasn´t big enough for him (Alex) to go for. ´ ‘Parkinson´s is not an old person´s disease.’ ‘People need to understand… inclusion needs to be there.’ ‘Businesses need to see the person as opposed to the disease.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 169Why, How and When to Raise Finance for your Business
In this episode, Jeannette talks through the different reasons a business may need finance. Then explains when to raise those funds, how to do it, and how to ensure that it is spent as intended. KEY TAKEAWAYS A lot of businesses are not clear enough about why they want to raise finance. Good liquidity is important. Jeannette shares six examples of how it enables companies to grow. You need to understand how you are going to deploy the funds before borrowing. This impacts what type of finance you raise. If you are giving away equity to raise funds, be particularly careful. Don´t give too much equity away, too soon. Look at the ROI, before borrowing. When seeking out investors, look for ones that can enhance your business in other ways. BEST MOMENTS ‘Start with the end in mind. ´ ‘If you are going to be giving away some equity in your business to raise funds…know what you are going to be using the money for.’ ‘What are the other qualities you are looking for from an investor?’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Journaling is extremely powerful. Understand your audience and think about what they need. Slow down and incorporate pauses, this settles your nerves while increasing impact. Prepare your voice before speaking publicly. Amy explains how to do that. Be open to opportunity. Improvement does not mean constantly learning new things. Getting better at what you do is just as important. BEST MOMENTS ‘It’s not the goals… it’s the deeper legacy that you want to leave behind.’ ‘I want people to listen, to take action, and then make a difference in their own world.’ ‘Focus on plan A, don´t have a plan B. If you have a plan B you are not going to be committed to Plan A.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. It’s never too late to be BRAVE and BOLD and unlock your inner BRILLIANCE. Understand and be aware of where you are within the 5-stage change cycle everyone goes through. She became a leading voice and effective advocate for the travel industry, during the CoVid pandemic. Julia has also won multiple travel business awards. In the podcast, Julia shares how she managed that transition. Focus on having the right people in place for the business. You want people who want your job and can fill any gaps. We all need to call out sexism and racism to make sure that it is not normalised. Be yourself and recognise that nobody can be perfect. Be clear about where your focus needs to be. In the podcast, Julia shares some tips to help you to do this. Never be afraid to admit you don´t know how to do something and ask for advice. Don’t be afraid of being honest. Regular, honest, and open communication has been crucial for navigating the pandemic. Do your research before speaking to the press. You must know your subject. Check the news stream before an interview to pick up on shifts and anticipate what you may be asked during an interview. Not being afraid to fail creates opportunities that would not otherwise be available to you. Go for it, because if you don´t someone else will come along and take your spot. BEST MOMENTS ‘I have no issue at all around saying to people, I have no idea what to do here and taking advice.’ ‘Think about those things that you can actually make an impact with and what you can control.’ ‘Don´t be afraid to fail.’ ‘Out of all of those challenges, there is always opportunity.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 165How to Turn a Pandemic Into An Opportunity
In this episode, Jeannette speaks about turning adversity into opportunities, which is something many people were surprised to find was possible during the CoVid pandemic. Jeannette takes a look at some of the main issues most businesses faced and shares how some were able to find solutions, which gave them a competitive edge. In the podcast, Jeannette demonstrates how some of her mentor clients have done that. Then goes on to share the details of her new Business Discovery Session she is running to help others to do the same. KEY TAKEAWAYS During the pandemic, some business sectors were decimated. But others thrived. You cannot ignore the challenges you face. But you also need to look for opportunities in every situation. Businesses have learned to sell in different ways. New business models have emerged or been created. Being forced to review the cost of overheads and finding ways to reduce them has created better cash flow and more resilient businesses. Anyone can learn how to spot the opportunities that business challenges create and take advantage of them. Ep 164Creating your 10 out of 10 Existence with Billy Schwer
In this episode, Jeannette talks to Billy Schwer, the Former British, Commonwealth, European, and World Boxing champion. He explains how he reached the top and what he learned along the way. Lessons that he is now sharing with others through his motivational speaking and his new book Man Up – The World Champion Way. Something that he has since been able to change and is now helping others to do too. KEY TAKEAWAYS You´ve got to be powerful in the face of adversity. That means letting go of things that go wrong and moving on. Having a strong team around will help you to succeed. Surround yourself with the right people. Life-changing decisions are hard to make. Billy explains why he decided to stop boxing and the struggle he had reinventing himself. Take courses that suit your learning style. For Billy was conversational rather than written content. If something does not feel right, work to change it. Feel good about the journey, not just about hitting the goal. Enjoy the ride. Consistency is what gets the results. If you keep yo-yo-ing, your why is not strong enough. When you find inspiration, you will automatically be motivated. Look after yourself. If you don´t you can´t look after anyone else. Keep your hands up. Protect yourself at all times, be aware of what you are reading, listening to, and who you are associating with. You are accountable for your own life and how you respond. You are not a victim. BEST MOMENTS ‘I’ve been on a transformational journey.’ ‘Consistency is the key to success.’ ‘People talk about being motivated. Ep 163The Biggest Mistake That Cost Me 7 Figures

On the surface, it looks like a small mistake, but Jeannette digs a little deeper and shares what was really behind that error. In the process, she transformed her work and personal life and within a short space of time set up several successful businesses. Doing so in a way that generates truly passive income. Ep 156Launching and Running Multiple Successful Businesses with Steven Pardoe
In this episode, Jeannette talks to Steven Pardoe who is the managing director of DOMO Developments. They provide both investors and owners with safe, secure, and calculated property investment opportunities. He explains how he started in sales, then set up multiple successful international businesses before switching direction and getting involved in the property industry. Steven explains why entrepreneurs need to become comfortable with selling – themselves, their ideas, their accommodation, or other product or service. They discuss many subjects, including, how to set up a strong business partnership, hire the right people, retain your staff, and recognize a sound investment. KEY TAKEAWAYS Property businesses have fewer overheads and are simpler than many other business models. We are all selling, all of the time. Even if it is just sharing our opinion. When you do that, you are selling your take on things to the listener. Selling is not sleazy. It is normal, get comfortable with it and learn to be good at it. Working in other countries or with international partners is a great way to expand your horizons, improve your communication skills and be able to work with anyone. Most property-related business models create positive cash flow. Once you are established it becomes easier to do big projects, which has many benefits that Steven explains in the podcast. Spend money at the start to start your business properly. When you fail, learn from it. Often, it is your failures that teach you the most. Most businesses plateau and you lose enthusiasm after 5 to 7 years. Plan to sell before that happens. Give your staff what they want. Don´t assume that is always more money, it could be flexible working so they can spend more time with their families. Know from day one what you and each partner is responsible for. Put in place formal legal agreements that also cover how things will be handled should things go wrong. Take time for your family. Be brave enough not to automatically listen to the opinions of others. BEST MOMENTS ‘Everyone sells, I just don´t think they really admit it. ´ ‘Everything for us has always been about positive cash flow.’ ‘One of my biggest mistakes has been staying in businesses too long and not having an exit.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 155Is Fear Holding You Back?
In this episode, Jeannette talks about facing your fears. Why it is really important to understand this natural reaction and learn how to stop your fears from holding you back. She explains how to face your fears and choose a different response. One that will enable you to deal with problems positively and succeed regardless. It is an easy-to-follow five-step process. KEY TAKEAWAYS Fear elicits two responses. Typically, fight or flight. Fear can stop you from getting started or lead to you failing at the first hurdle. Anyone can learn to face their fears and choose a different response. The moment you feel panic setting in, pause and reset. Stop thinking about the potential negative impact of what you are about to do. Focus on the positive instead. Break things down into easy to achieve steps. Then, follow them one after another. BEST MOMENTS ‘Fear is a really natural reaction…. but it can hold you back. ´ ‘Focus on what you’ve got to gain, rather than on what you’ve got to lose.’ ‘Failure is learning.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Ep 154My Mum Doreen Linfoot - My True Inspiration
When Jeannette interviewed her mum for episode 132 of the Brave Bold Brilliant podcast, she received many positive comments. So many, that they decided to do it again. In this episode, Doreen shares more details of her life. Painting a picture of how the way life was just after the war pushed people to have a positive mindset, to push on regardless, to cope with going without while building a strong future for their families. They also talk about the world of work. How women coped with the lack of career opportunities. As well as how Doreen´s independent spirit led to her running two businesses and investing in a holiday cottage at a time when very few women did so. They discuss how to ensure that you do not hold yourself back, nor allow the way society is structured to do so. KEY TAKEAWAYS After the war, rationing meant that people got used to going without. There were no real opportunities for women. At the time keeping a house took up a huge amount of time because there were no mod-cons. People got on with things even when times were tough, taking positive action regardless. Running a business without partners gives you the freedom to be in charge of your destiny. If you can afford to do so, go it alone when you set up your first business. It is less restrictive. Take lots of business advice but try to be the one that makes the decisions. Don´t over-stretch yourself financially when setting up your business, it just puts you under unnecessary pressure. Never use money that you cannot afford to do without. Don’t say anything about your plans until you have made up your mind. If necessary, take independent action to ensure nobody puts you off of following your plan. BEST MOMENTS ‘After WWII … no matter how wealthy you were you really didn’t have anything because there was nothing to have. ´ ‘I can´t understand why people moaned about kids, you weren´t angels but you were interesting.’ ‘Employ people, but don´t have them as a business partner. It’s too restrictive.’ ‘Nobody knows better than you…I think you’ve got to trust your instincts.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. As well as 12 tips that will make it easier for you to take action. KEY TAKEAWAYS Taking a proactive approach to networking creates great results. Far better than just letting things happen. Get out of your own way…. everyone has something important to say and contribute. It is normal to feel nervous, at first. Volunteer for projects and initiatives. In this episode, Jeannette asks everyone a particularly important question – are you just surviving or thriving? She explains how she ended up doing exactly that for a time. Jeannette shares the tactics she used to get out of that situation. Ten simple things that have helped her through other issues, so that she has been able to thrive. All of which you can also easily implement. KEY TAKEAWAYS If you know that you have more potential within, you can fulfil it. You can create wealth that enables you to live the life that you want. Ep 150Follow Your Passion and Curiosity to Lead a Fulfilling Life with Yulia Denisyuk
In this episode, Jeannette talks to Yulia Denisyuk who is an award-winning travel photographer and writer with a special interest in stories about artisan crafts and ancient traditions. She explains why despite having an MBA in marketing and strategy and a highly successful career working for large corporations, she gave it all up to put travel, her passion, at the centre of her life. Yulia and Jeannette talk about how to find the courage to make transformative changes in your life. How to develop the resilience and tenacity to stop listening to the negative voices of others and to deal with imposter syndrome. So that you can switch to doing work that feeds you rather than drains you. Yulia talks about her Genius Women masterclass and the role mentors have played in her life. As well as providing advice to help anyone who wants to make a living from writing, photography, or their travels, to do so. KEY TAKEAWAYS We all tend to automatically follow the most clearly defined path – get good grades, take a corporate job, get a mortgage, etc. Social pressure plays a big role in pushing us to do what everyone else does. Everyone is different. For some people doing well at a corporate job is their passion. Don´t compare yourself to others – row your own boat. Not doing something that you are passionate about is soul-destroying. Role models and mentors help you to get to where you want far faster. Imposter syndrome can really hold you back. Don´t give up too early. Be consistent, stubborn, keep going and keep learning. Remember how you spend your days is how you spend your life. Travel writers need humility, curiosity, tenacity, and the ability to pursue the story. In the podcast, Yulia explains how to get started in the field. Believe in yourself, follow your why, and take action consistently. If you do not yet have a passion. Follow your curiosity instead. Everyone has something special to offer – jewels inside. Recognise them and share them with everyone. BEST MOMENTS ‘I left my corporate life behind, and I dedicated all of my subsequent journey to figuring out how I can do the lifestyle where travel is at the centre of it. ´ ‘When you try something new, it’s important not to get discouraged too soon.’ ‘The only way to get that experience is to start doing.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. It’s never too late to be BRAVE and BOLD and unlock your inner BRILLIANCE. Ep 148Raamon Newman - From 10 Years a Monk to New Maverick
In this episode, Jeannette talks to Raamon Newman the co-founder and CEO of New Mavericks, which is a global leadership development consultancy. He has led an eclectic life as a pro-level athlete, meditating monk, author, and business leader. During his 10 years as a monk, he learned how to still his mind, find fulfilment and help others to do the same. Before co-founding his consultancy. Raamon and Jeannette discuss how learning to relax on a much deeper level, relieves emotional tension, which naturally leads to achievement. Something that Raamon has been teaching business leaders for many years. Including one CEO who took his business from 1 billion to 7 billion in just 7 years. Raamon explains how ordinary people can engage their leadership mind and shares details of the new App he is launching to help them to do exactly that. KEY TAKEAWAYS Most of us chase achievement, hoping that we will feel fulfilled, which is the wrong way around. When you have inner fulfilment, achievement follows naturally. When your mind is settled, you experience very little emotional tension, which leads to calmness even when under great stress. Having a strong clear vision is a far more effective persuader than any verbal argument you present. Clarity of mind enables you to see opportunities sooner and know what steps you need to take. When you are who you really are at the deepest level, you spontaneously take the right action. Our vision and our purpose are really an extension of who we are. Everyone has a purpose, but that purpose is always evolving. When you make a decision make sure that you really believe in it yourself. In business, most decisions are made on how you feel. You rarely have all of the information, so you have to go with your gut. Too many of today´s business leaders are actually followers that don´t make empowering evolutionary decisions for themselves. They default too much to what they hear in the media. People now want to take care of their minds just as much as they do their bodies. If you see something that you like in life, be bold, and go grab it. BEST MOMENTS ‘Achievement comes and goes … the ultimate goal is fulfilment.’‘The more you can see something in yourself the more likely you can help others to see it too.’‘Follow your own innate nature.’ This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. With a drive for helping people develop a sense of protection in any market, Raamon is also co-author of The Science of Protection: How Leaders Gain an Unfair Advantage to Create Stellar Success. His book helps leaders enhance their progress through mental optimization and skills. Everything required to support their vision can be developed within, and Raamon is an expert in showing them how. He is a former top-three nationally ranked track athlete, national cross country team winner, state championship-winning rugby player, environmental products entrepreneur, 10-year full-time meditating monk, Meisner trained actor, a philanthropist, and a graduate from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing. In this episode, Jeannette talks to Wayne Smith the CEO of Olympia Boxing CIO, who is also a multiple business owner and entrepreneur. Wayne explains how boxing inspired him to transform himself from being a young man who used drinks and drugs and was not interested in school into becoming an England coach and community leader. Don´t hold yourself back – what´s the worst that can happen.... you fail and have to get a regular job? Ignore the doubters, especially the ones that have not even attempted what you are planning to do. There is always something new to learn, regardless of how experienced you are. Everything is constantly changing. Invest in yourself. It will take time and cost money, but always pays dividends. If you take a course or follow a business model and discover that it is not for you. Learn from it and use that for the next thing. Everyone employs personal trainers to get them fit. We all need mentors to do the same for us in business. Don´t compare yourself to others, stay focused on yourself and your goals. Set aside time for your family. Make that non-negotiable. For Parkinson’s intense exercise has been proven to delay the onset of symptoms, which is why Wayne runs boxing sessions for sufferers. If you want to invest in property, educate yourself first. A good coach will draw the best out of someone. When coaching someone you need to understand them and adapt your approach to what they need. BEST MOMENTS ‘Anything is possible for anyone…they just have to get out of their own way and go for it.’ ‘Anything can be rebuilt.’ ‘Any amount of money that you invest in yourself, is money that is well invested.’ ‘We all employ personal trainers to get us fit.
