Ep 30Jo Rzymowska, Celebrity Cruises Vice President and Managing Director (EMEA) - talking all things business and diversity & inclusion
In this episode, Jeannette speaks with Jo Rzymowska, who is Celebrity Cruise´s Vice President and Managing Director, Europe Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). They talk about her 35-year travel industry career, how she got started and the many lessons she learned on the way. How she progressed from being a holiday rep to playing a key role in launching a skiing brand, senior roles at Walt Disney and Universal Studios to ultimately becoming the boss of Celebrity Cruises. Jo and Jeannette also discuss the progression of gender and other forms of equality within the workplace. Including, why making progress on this issue took so long. They talk about how Jo found the strength to come out as a gay woman and the approach she would take to coming out in today´s workplace. They wrap things up by discussing how the Covid crisis has impacted the cruise industry and how it will emerge from the crisis by taking a bold proactive approach. KEY TAKEAWAYS Putting the guests (your customers) at the core of everything works. Really caring and providing outstanding customer service is vital in any industry. You do not need 100% of the skills to be able to apply for a role and succeed in it. As women often we focus on our ‘gaps’ rather than on what we can bring to a role. Mentors help you to see your potential and give you the confidence to move up. True workplace equality comes from the top. You have to measure how well you are doing equality and diversity wise. If you don´t, nothing will change. People need to be able to be true to themselves, they cannot constantly be looking over their shoulder in the workplace. Everyone needs to feel safe and confident at work. When you are grappling with personal and identity issues, find someone you can trust and talk things through with them in confidence. Team members need to respect each other but should also challenge each other. Communicate frequently with your staff, even if the message is “we don´t know”. Look after yourself and those you love physically, mentally, and emotionally. Don´t perpetuate inequality by ignoring it. Instead, actively do something to make a positive difference. Fail to prepare - prepare to fail. BEST MOMENTS ‘If you don´t measure it, it doesn´t happen.’ ‘It's all very well saying I'm not racist, but what are you doing to make a difference?´ ´Take people for who they are not what they are, don't care about their business title.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series ABOUT THE GUEST Jo Rzymowska has held a variety of senior roles since joining Royal Caribbean Group in 2005, across the corporation’s family of brands. Ep 29How to Overcome the Dreaded Imposter Syndrome
In this episode, Jeannette takes an in-depth look at imposter syndrome, something most people suffer from at some point in their life. She explains what it is and how to identify if you are prone to it. As well as explaining what may be behind your feeling that you are not good enough or are a fraud, despite your achievements. Jeannette talks about her own experience of the syndrome. She shares several tips and tricks she has used to beat it and ensure that it has not held her back. Simple things you can do too to overcome your own imposter syndrome. KEY TAKEAWAYS Imposter syndrome is a collection of feelings of inadequacy that persist despite evidence of success. Deep down you feel like a fraud. About 70% of people experience imposter syndrome. This is regardless of their background, sex or level of education and experience. Why people feel this way varies greatly, personality traits, upbringing and childhood experiences can all play a role in imposter syndrome. If you let it, this syndrome can overwhelm you and hold you back. The first step to dealing with it is to recognize what is happening, so you can recalibrate and reframe things. Don´t be afraid to talk to friends or mentors about how you are feeling, they are highly likely to have been where you are now. Focus on your goal, if it is important enough it will give you the confidence to push through and do things despite imposter syndrome. A healthy body equals a healthy mind, exercise releases positive endorphins into the body. If you are suffering from self-doubt the last thing you need is to be around cynical or negative people. Reframe failure in your mind as learning. Taking steps towards your goal, every day, even baby steps, builds confidence. You can retrain your subconscious and overcome imposter syndrome. BEST MOMENTS ‘About 70% of people suffer from what is commonly known as imposter syndrome. ’ ´Make sure you're spending time with people that are positive, they're going to encourage you, they're going to help you achieve’ ‘It´s fine to have an imposter syndrome moment. But let´s make sure we´ve not got an imposter syndrome life. ’ VALUABLE RESOURCES - Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality, and property sectors. Ep 28Sex Sells: Vegas Sex Professor Barb Brents Reveals All!
In this episode, Jeannette interviews Barb Brents. She is a professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, who has been studying the sex industry for more than 20 years. They discuss her career path, her research, her new book, and talk about the similarities between the sex industry and mainstream businesses and what entrepreneurs in any field can learn from the industry. Barb talks about what those selling sex have taught her about life, marketing and how to succeed despite being stigmatised by much of society. KEY TAKEAWAYS People are often blinded by their misconceptions Not everyone immediately knows what path they want to take, and it is fine for your vision to evolve over time as it did for her The role of mentors and role models is so important and can be life-changing There are commercial and societal drivers behind how the sex industry works. Sex workers are the original gig workers, most develop a wide range of skills and often work several jobs. Many entrepreneurs who work in the erotic industry become extraordinarily successful, but it isn’t rosy for everyone. The most marginalised groups tend to suffer the most from lack of social support, poverty, exploitation and violence. Like many industries, the sex industry is stratified with those who already have resources doing the best. Marketing sex draws on all of the same skills that would be applied to any other product or service Don´t be afraid to do something different and explore things most other people are ignoring. The sex industry is a business like any other. One that surprisingly has similarities with the tourist industry. All businesses can learn a lot from the sex industry Sex workers suffer discrimination simply because they are selling something that others think is not appropriate, yet there is a need for those services. Digitalization is drastically changing the sex industry. People spend quite a bit of time reading ads when buying sex online, especially in the UK. Demand for sexual services is diverse, it is not just heterosexual men who buy sex. Marginalising people for leading different lives, means that society misses out on their potential. Being mentored and mentoring others brings huge benefits. Often it takes someone else to tell you that you are capable of progressing in your career for you to take the next step. BEST MOMENTS ‘Sex in today´s world is business.’ ‘The sex industry is a lot like many other service businesses. ´ ´I recognised at that point that other people needed mentors, other people needed role models, and that I shouldn't be shy about helping.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES - Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series Paying for Sex in a Digital Age by Teela Sanders, Barbara Brents & Chris Wakefield The State of Sex by Barbara G. She specialises in gender and sexuality, feminist theory, law and politics, and urban sociology along with several related subjects. Barb is co-author of Paying for Sex in the Digital Age and The State of Sex. When she moved to Las Vegas she began to research the sex industry in the city. At the time, nobody else was researching sexual commerce around Sin City.Naturally, she is now an authority on research in the field and her expertise is in demand. She has written hundreds of articles and papers on the subject and delivered dozens of lectures about her findings too. Ep 27Fire in Your Belly; Collabcast With Pete Lonton
In this episode, Podcast host Pete Lonton invites Jeannette onto his show Fire in The Belly to discuss in depth what lights Jeannette's ambition and her personal journey through life (and business!). Be sure to listen through this slightly longer episode to get a deep insight into Jeannette's continued learning throughout her professional career and how that has impacted (good or bad) every other aspect of her lifes journey. KEY TAKEAWAYS Jeannette wants to help all women excel in business. She has vast business experience including being the CEO in a large travel company. She has experienced (almost) everything in the corporate playbook and is fully aware many things need to be changed within the system. Also, there are things that we also need to learn so we can advance in our journey confidently. She adds that there are more women in the property world since it’s more flexible (because of parenthood, homemaking, etc.) compared to the corporate world. In the travel industry, there tends to be more female (around 65%) because of their traditional preference that cabin crews, travel agents, etc. be women. But when we take a look at their middle and senior management, the number of women in position is still noticeably low. Men still dominate the management positions. A business should have a strategic agenda to ensure business growth and also maintain a healthy organisational structure. If one intentionally aims for a diverse board of management and/or thoroughly built a pipeline, policies, and plans, then there’s nowhere to go but up. An indestructible mindset is the real deal. Work on yourself inside out so you can get the results you’re aiming for. According to Jeannette, our values and beliefs are entrenched to our behaviours and attitude around everything, including wealth. So, if you already believe that you’re meant for it, then you are. Jeannette is a mentor as well as a mentee. It has made a massive difference in her life to have someone guide her in decision making, so she wants to do the same for others. She shares that there’s so much fulfilment in seeing someone flourish and see their optimnum potential. BEST MOMENTS “We bring different things to the party and there’s absolutely no reason whether you're female, gay, straight, black, white, that you shouldn't be able to be in a very senior role in any organisation.” “I think the mindset is at the heart of absolutely everything. It's everything in life, not just in business, career but also in relationships.” “If you're overly concerned about what everyone else is thinking about you and your ego, it can blow you off track. What really matters is what's inside and what people that are close to you, your loved ones, think.” VALUABLE RESOURCES Know more about Jeannette Linfoot’s careers and businesses here: https://www.jeannettelinfootassociates.com/ Read The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment by Eckhart Tolle. Ep 26Darren O´Sullivan – From Council Estate to Best-Selling Author
In this episode, Jeannette plays host to Darren O´Sullivan, the best-selling author who is known for his enthralling psychological thrillers. They discuss how Darren changed genres and focus, so he could write for a thirsty pool of readers. He also talks about the mindset he developed to deal with repeated rejections and keep pushing through. Darren and Jeannette discuss how the principles entrepreneurs use to grow their businesses are similar to the ones writers use to be successful in their field. KEY TAKEAWAYS Get out of your own head, don’t complicate matters To succeed in any field, including writing, you have to adapt and pivot to find and serve a market. Darren had to delete 2 years of work, 300,000 words with 80,000 published for his first novel – you have to have the ability to let go of your ego and focus on what you want to achieve. Let’s just fix this, let’s make it work! Ask yourself what it’s really about, get clear, focus on that and it becomes achievable. When you face a big task, just get started, if you don´t you will continue to be overwhelmed and be unable to progress. You do not need everyone to think that what you have to offer is great - just one believer or buyer is enough to get your venture moving and gathering momentum. Keep reviewing your dreams, your goals, and asking what the next step is No is just one step closer to yes. Whether you are looking for inspiration for your next book, product, or service, look first at what you know, the things you are familiar with. There’s an energy of being around people that provides inspiration. The most important thing for me as a writer is never forgetting that without a reader I don’t have the ability to write the next book You need to move with the times to reach your customers, for example, Darren´s books are available in Audible format. Recognise where the gaps in your knowledge are and hire someone to fill them, don´t waste time and energy trying to do everything yourself. Being an acro you can become someone else, but as a writer it’s all about the real you Take rejection on the chin and remember why you are doing things in the first place See failure as learning Know your worth and don´t be afraid to ask for the appropriate remuneration. Don’t let the naysayers stop you – protect your precious dream, then work your arse off! Be strict, get it done, find the time to fulfil your dream, sneak those little moments. BEST MOMENTS ‘Remember you're looking for one moment, one customer, one client, just one thing that can keep you moving forward.’ ‘Quite often in a week I put on the brakes and say, hang on a minute what are you trying to do here. What's the next step? ´ ´Recognise where your strengths are and where maybe you are not so strong and hire to fill those gaps.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES - Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series Darren O´Sullivan´s Books ABOUT THE GUEST - Darren O´Sullivan is a best-selling author who currently lives in Peterborough. He started his writing career by writing plays. In his youth, he worked as an actor but struggled with the audition process, so it was hard for him to find new work. His innovative solution was to write his own plays and give himself a part in them. It worked, but by then, Darren had been bitten by the writing bug and switched to writing thrillers. To date, he has published four books – Our Little Secret, Close Your Eyes, Closer Than You Think and Dark Corners, which came out in April 2020. His 5th The Players is due out in Jan 2021. Ep 25The Power of No!
In this episode, Jeannette talks about how important it is to learn when to say no. Using a simple analogy, she demonstrates what happens to your life when you don’t know how to say no, often enough. As well as explaining how to break the destructive habit of saying yes too much. If you are feeling overwhelmed and are experiencing too much external pressure to do too many things for others, this podcast is for you. Use Jeannettes’ five steps to finally free yourself of following other people´s agenda and do so in a way that does not isolate others. Listen to your gut - if it feels wrong it probably is2. Check whether this is serving your purpose helping you achieve your goals3. Have the conversation even if it feels awkward4. Be ruthless with your diary and de-clutter5. Give yourself a pat on the back for being brave KEY TAKEAWAYS It is human nature to want to be liked and to help others, so saying no is not easy. Saying yes, when you should be saying no, can lead to feelings of resentment. Not saying no when necessary will end up with you over-committing and not getting the things you need to do, done. 5 great reasons for being able to say no - puts you in control, stops you being overwhelmed or resentful, enables you to get things done and builds your confidence You can say no to people without offending them Here are 5 actions you can take to help you identify when to say no, (outlined in the podcast), and why it’s important to be able to say no: BEST MOMENTS ‘If you always say yes, you will feel like everyone else is running your agenda for you,’ ‘You've got to make sure that your life has space in it for the important things for you and what you're trying to achieve. ´ ´Say no but do it in an elegant and kind way.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES - Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series https://www.jeannettelinfootassociates.com/ Fierce Conversations: Achieving success in work and in life, one conversation at a time - by Susan Scott ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality, and property sectors. He also talks about why being prepared to take a risk is an essential part of being a successful entrepreneur. KEY TAKEAWAYS Neville´s dyslexia and ADHD shut down mainstream paths, which pushed him to work on the fringes, where he found huge success. Find something that you are good at, in your element and at your happiest and do that. When you haven’t got anything, you’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain. If you’re too comfortable you won’t go over the mountain and take a chance. If you focus too much on what you may lose, rather than on what you could gain, you will never take a risk and move forward. You only have one go at it, don’t be afraid. Do not disappoint the customer. Be clear on what you want, do it your way. World record, selling Kiddicare to Morrisons for £70 million, but this was a side line not the main thing! There are stepping stones in your business where you have to make the hard decisions Everything is in your mind and in your control Sometimes you have to go backwards to go forwards, just make sure you’re climbing up the right mountain BEST MOMENTS ‘I think ADHD drove me because I can´t sit still, and want to be onto the next thing.’ ‘If you don't do what the customer wants, you will lose. ´ ´Why not push the boundaries, and see what you can do?.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series The Answer is Yes - Now What is the Question? ABOUT THE GUESTNeville Wright In school Neville Wright had been brainwashed not to succeed. Life’s not fair. If only he could get the deals like others get. He told himself he would start his business when the economy gets better. The weather is so bad he couldn’t start now. Only one of him with 100 excuses, feel familiar. 24 years of excuses had to stop. 26th September 1974 was the day Neville stopped making excuses for having just pennies in his pocket and nothing in his bank, with no skills and no hope of getting another job. Having said that Neville really didn’t want another job as he had had 17 of them. That day literally changed his outlook on life. His lethargy turned to energy. He realised that his attitude had already determined his aptitude up to that point. Then the real person that had been hiding inside of him for the last 24 years woke up to give him the drive, the determination, the focus and the ability to go from nothing to making far in excess of £100 million. Neville Wright is the co-founder of Kiddicare. A business that he and his wife, Marilyn sold to Morrisons for £70 million. This was during a deep recession, so the price secured was a record-beating one. Since then he has worked and succeeded in many different business fields. Building and selling several nursery businesses, hairdressing salons, restaurants and a house building firm and a technology business. Today, he is also a business mentor, investor, property developer, and motivational speaker. As well as the author of the highly rated book - The Answer is Yes - Now What is the Question? Ep 23How to go from Mediocre to Miracle
In this episode, Jeannette explains how to recognise whether you are simply settling for mediocre in your life and what to do about it if you are. If deep down you want more from life and want to really fulfil your potential, in this podcast episode Jeannette will help you to succeed in your business or work life , but also have a positive impact on your personal life. Jeannette alerts you to seven signs that you are letting mediocrity creep into your life and explains how to recognise them and what to do about it. This is all about putting routines into your life to create your own miracle morning. KEY TAKEAWAYS 95% of people never really achieve their full potential or follow all of their dreams – you have a choiceyou do not need to be one of them. Choose to be in the 5% and then avoid the traps of mediocrity The 7 causes of mediocrity: Rear view mirror syndrome – assuming what happened in the past will be the same in the future, but your past does not dictate your future Lack of purpose and vision – not knowing what you want to achieve Isolating incidents – kidding yourself that the ‘one-off’ doesn’t matter, but the way you do anything is the way that you do everything Lack of accountability – can cause you to get blown off track Having a mediocre circle of influence – the people you spend time with affects your own attitude, ambition and mood Lack of personal development – the best investment you can ever make is in yourself Lack of urgency – this can mean things can drift To be able to help others you have to be in good shape, so looking after your needs is not a selfish act. Being self-aware will help you to spot when you are simply settling for mediocrity. Draw a line in the sand, you can choose to go for miracle not mediocrity. Don’t wait start today You need to take a little time out for yourself to be able to go from mediocre to miracle. Set yourself up to be productive using the simple 7 step morning routine that Jeannette shares. This will set you off in the right direction every single day. 6 key areas (SAVERS) to create your ‘miracle morning’ that really works: Silence – time in silence to create calmness Affirmations – say out loud what you want to achieve/become Visualisation – imagine what it will look & feel like and the actions you need to take to get you there Exercise – healthy body = healthy mind Reading – learn something new every day Scribing (writing) – keep a diary or take notes Always be learning and look after yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally Your past does not dictate your future. Do not delay starting your journey from mediocre to miracle. BEST MOMENTS ‘Mediocrity is a direct result of not having a commitment to your personal development to learn, grow and improve,’ ‘The best investment you can make is in yourself ´ ‘If you're in good shape, everyone around you will benefit as well.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES - Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality, and property sectors. This is a great opportunity to hear about the important elements that you need to share when working closely with someone and why any entrepreneurial journey brings challenges to overcome. KEY TAKEAWAYS Having a large and wide skills network that you can utilise is vital. Having an alignment of values and making sure you get on is an important aspect of working with someone else. Being transparent and open is vital if you want people to trust you. It’s choosing the strategy that is appropriate for you and your circumstances at a particular time. The investor needs to understand what’s going on and have trust in the relationship. The return on property investment internationally is based very much on how and when. Being an entrepreneur means there is always something to do and leveraging other people and prioritisation are key to being successful. The more you do the more disciplined you have to be to accomplish what you want. Things work well because we have shared values and a shared vision. Ep 19Jeannette Being Interviewed by Kevin McDonnell of Progressive Property – Talking all things Property, Strategy & Opportunities
In this episode, we hear how Jeannette has pivoted from a hugely successful corporate career into the entrepreneurial space building a portfolio of businesses including property, board advisory, mentoring and podcasting. Jeannette shares great advice about the differences that being part of a mentoring programme makes and why it’s important to get started and build a team that’s right for you. Everyone has dreams and it’s possible to turn your dreams into reality by having a clear plan to move forward with. This is a great opportunity to hear how Jeannette has made it happen. KEY TAKEAWAYS Mentorship is about accountability, getting the best from the education you have invested in, support, encouragement, technical expertise and being pushed to achieve more. It’s important to understand the skills you have, identify any gaps and then build a team that fills those gaps and together will effectively combine all the skills required. Spend time understanding what you want to achieve with your property business. Manchester is a great property investment area, has a good entry point of purchase price, lots of investment in the city, high rental demand and supply of stock Having mentors and surrounding yourself with people who are already successful helps you to understand the size of the opportunities out there. It’s important to know what skills you bring to the game, identify gaps, agree who is accountable for which parts of the business and then recruit the right people onto your team If you start off with unrealistic expectations then you may end up being disappointed - true for property but also true for any business. Plan realistically and then if you achieve better that’s upside. The initial steps, the setup phase is important and part of this is doing your research, spending some time on the ground, build relationships and putting together your team. The importance of this is often underplayed.Start with one deal and keep going one deal at a time. Go through a full cycle so you get to learn the whole process end to end. You will always learn and this allows you to tweak and improve. Turn your dream into a plan and move forward by taking one action at a time every day and then you will build your business. Most people have lots of transferrable skills that they can bring into property, so don’t underestimate that. You have to be very disciplined with your time, plan carefully and allocate specific times to specific parts of your business and life to achieve more Match your most productive energy levels with the most important tasks and actions you need to do. Avoid distractions wherever possible and stay focused. If you are in a situation you don’t like, or it’s not going well you have 3 choices - Try and change it - Accept it - Get out There are lots of different strategies in property and you can get started without any capital. Top three pieces of advice from Jeannette if you want to make a start in property - don’t procrastinate make a start, get out networking to meet like-minded people and know your numbers. BEST MOMENTS ‘It showed us the way to the strategy which was the best for us’ ‘It’s important the people you work with regularly are the right fit for you’ ‘Mentoring is about the people you have around you and the opportunities you see’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series The Progressive Property Podcast The Power of Now - Eckhart Tolle ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality and property sectors. Ep 18Alex Gisbert, CEO Fastpayhotels – From family business to corporate boardroom to entrepreneur!
Jeannette is with Alex Gisbert Co-Founder and CEO of Fastpayhotels, innovators in B2B hotel distribution. As a fast-growing business who now work with 30,000 hotels around the world and in 78 countries Fastpayhotels have shown that entrepreneurial spirit and innovation is the way to grow successfully on a global stage. As someone who pivoted from the corporate space to his own innovative start-up he explains why the details and being authentic make the difference. Alex and Jeannette also discuss the importance of integrity, your network and understanding that the things that don’t work out are always opportunities to learn and move forward if you are prepared to work hard. KEY TAKEAWAYS Going through your cost ledgers line by line is the way to understand exactly where the money goes in a company. You can do a Masters IN business or DO a Masters AT a business, resulting in Alex turning around and selling his family restaurant chain to Pizza Express Learning from the grassroots up makes all the difference to be credible as a leader in a family business – from bottle washer, to waiter to being able to work the bar. You have to work your way into situations. Creating empathy with suppliers builds huge bridges and opens doors, criss cross your career into interesting conversations As a CEO you are broadly looking at 3 areas costs, profit and brandApproach of I don’t need to know the details, just make it happen Take risks, there always has to be a better way of doing things The right mindset is vital to understanding that even if something doesn’t work out it’s a learning opportunity. If you don’t think of failure as failure but as an opportunity to learn you can always move forward. As you progress in your career, you build confidence in taking risks and gain comfort taking even bigger risks as you progress. People worry about what they may lose instead of what they might gain, which often means they never get going in the first place. Globalised growth is really hard to do The use of language is hugely important when you are trying to globalise a business. Jargon and idioms can be easily misinterpreted and you can alienate people whose first language is not englidh overnight so you have to watch out for that. You can never underestimate the cultural differences, diversity and the importance of understanding the different ways of doing business around the world. Understanding details makes all the difference. Having a supportive partner in your life and in your business, that backs you all the way helps massively in making those big leaps into the unknown. Just go for it and do something that will make you happy! It’s about giving it a go - you have to work hard with integrity and professionalism. Setting up a business isn’t easy but it’s worth it – from remortgaging the house to ramping up credit card debt You can only regret what you do, you can’t regret what you don’t do, so just do it. Your reputation and integrity are everything and people make decisions to work with you based on it despite which big companies you have worked for. Never try and be two personalities – take your personal values and traits to work with you everyday. Its part of having integrity. Ep 17How To 'Face The Fear' And Do It Anyway
Can you face your fears and do it anyway? Many people don’t ever fulfil their true potential because of fear but you can learn how to effectively face your fears and move through them to success using the 5 steps Jeannette shares in this episode. Fear can be very limiting and can be wide-ranging from a fear of failure to a fear of losing money. It’s a natural reaction but learn to face your fears and you will be able to move to the next level and achieve the greatness that is within you. KEY TAKEAWAYS Experiencing fear is a natural reaction When fear kicks in it can elicit two responses flight or fight We have a choice as to how we react when we have feelings of fear Fear can be debilitating and hold you back, to the point that we might not even get started, meaning you never fulfil your potential. Fear comes in all shapes and sizes but can include some of these – fear of judgement from others, fear of failure, loss of face & reputation, fear of loss of money, or actually being fearful of success itself and what that can actually mean for us. Marianne Williamson, the American spiritualist activisit and founder of the Peace Alliance says ‘Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate it is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our dark that frightens us’ Be the person you want to be, have no regrets. Arnold Schwarzenegger says ‘ we can’t always win, but don’t be afraid to fail’. 5 step process if you ever feel fear or panic setting in; 1. If you start to feel feelings of fear then just stop what you are doing. 2. You will often be thinking about what you will lose if you take action but you need to push any negative thoughts away. 3. Reframe your thoughts in a positive way – what could you have to gain? 4. Take the first step and you will have started on the right track 5. Keep going taking it one step at a time and moving forward. BEST MOMENTS ‘Unfortunately, lots of people never fulfil their potential because of fear’ ‘The most successful people have experienced multiple failures along the way’ ‘Just give it a go because even if you mess up you will be learning something’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series https://www.jeannettelinfootassociates.com/ ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality and property sectors. Ep 16Anne Houlton – From Dentist to Multi-Millionaire in Property
In this episode, Jeannette is in conversation with Anne Houlton who successfully pivoted from a senior position in dentistry to multi-millionaire property investor. They discuss Anne’s journey and what it takes to be a successful female entrepreneur in the world of property investment. As someone who acknowledges that she likes to please others, Anne discusses how she makes the brave decisions that take her forward in the property arena. This is a candid discussion about what it takes in business, accountability, mentors, helping others and being courageous. KEY TAKEAWAYS Being traditionally educated is not the same as being financially savvy. Dream of home ownership was embedded into Anne from an early age, growing up in a rented house in South-East London. Anne’s entrepreneurial spirit comes from having scarcity in her life and a lack of abundance in her childhood. Leverage your money to get a much better return. No coincidence with the term ‘safe as houses’. You make mistakes along the way, but you learn from that. You have to be brave and courageous and keep moving forward making sure you enjoy the opportunities in life. An entrepreneur is always hungry for the next thing and prepared to take risks. Anne’s drive comes from wanting people to like, love and approve of her and striving for more. Everyone needs to have mentors and the right people to show them what they can achieve. It’s the accountability, knowledge and support from someone who is not part of your agenda, but the mentee has to take the action. You need your tribe to help you to get where you are going. If you are able to identify what’s important to you then the opportunities fall into place. Be clear on what you want and then focus on getting there. Don’t focus on other people’s agenda, carve out dedicated time for yourself for blue-sky thinking. Being in the best physical and mental state as an entrepreneur is critical to success. Personal development is an ongoing thing – always want to be a better version of yourself It’s important to make sure you enjoy the journey as much as the destination, and celebrate success along the way. There is nothing to stop you in property you can embrace it all. In property you need to be a people person and be prepared to work and if you do this and take action you can be successful. Once you have property it’s there forever as a passive income Don’t wait to buy property, buy property and wait Helping other people makes you feel joyful and when you help others your business will grow. BEST MOMENTS ‘I could retire and take up knitting but I would just stagnate, it would be awful. You have to keep moving forwards in life’ ‘If you are calm and in the best physical and mental state you are better placed to support others’ ‘Exercise is time for you and can often be the time when you resolve problems and have your best ideas’ ‘You have to be brave and courageous and keep moving forward’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality and property sectors. She spent 30 years exchanging her time for money as a dentist before attending her first Progressive Property event in January 2014. She was trapped in a financial comfort zone with a good income but not enough time to do all the things she really loved, traveling the world, spending time with family and friends, fitness, and riding her horses and bikes. She quit her job as a dentist and her husband Steve quit his job as a GP in September 2015 when their income from property replaced their salaries. Property investing has given them financial and time freedom and their lives now couldn’t be more different. Anne has a portfolio of over 80 properties. Four of these are HMOs and the rest are Single Let's. Her first (and true) love is Single Lets. Why? Because the income is the most passive of any property strategy with long-term tenants and high demand. They are a low-risk, low time-intensive, Set and Forget model. Anne set up her own Lettings Agency that manages her properties for

Ep 15Overwhelm and How to Conquer it with the 21/28 Day Log
When you are dealing with many different things it can often lead to feelings of overwhelm and sometimes not knowing where to turn or how to move forward. In this episode Jeannette shares a simple and highly effective tool that is hugely valuable for anyone who wants to optimise their time and achieve their goals. Everyone wants to make the most of their time and get the best from life and this is a great opportunity to find out how to stop the overwhelm and make positive changes to achieve what you want. KEY TAKEAWAYS Everyone wants to make the most of their time and get what they want from life. Use a blank sheet for each of the 21 days, 3 weeks is a reasonable duration to create an accurate picture. [If you are a woman, you may want to keep this log for 28 days so that it covers your full cycle] Use columns for time, task, details, energy level and area. Throughout the day record every task and its duration. If it’s easier for you, you can also record this at the end of the day, but make sure you do it on the day as otherwise you will forget. It will only take you 10 minutes each day! Identify if the task was for work, social or if you were resting. When you review the tasks, you need to record how you felt while completing the activities – were you lethargic, steady, energised or on fire? We all have different rhythms throughout the day with peaks and troughs in our energy levels, so it’s important to understand what your personal rhythm is. Note whether the activity is a key life area, key result area or income-generating area and record what type of activity you are doing. At the end of the 21/28 days review the log to identify patterns and trends making changes to optimise your time. You should be matching your most important tasks with your high energy levels. Decide on the changes you need to make and take action. BEST MOMENTS ‘Give it a go and you will find it will make the space you need for yourself’ ‘We are all different, the key is to be aware of your own energy levels throughout the day’ ‘Make sure you write everything down throughout the day’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality and property sectors. Ep 14Simon Maunder - Characteristics of a Disruptive Entrepreneur
In this episode, Jeannette is with Simon Maunder serial entrepreneur who is into everything from yachts, jets, property, radio and bowling. Simon’s whole approach to doing business is always about how he can disrupt the standard business model and do something bigger and better in a new innovative way. He talks with Jeannette about the entrepreneurial journey he has been on and the characteristics of an entrepreneur in this fascinating insight. He shares his motivation and why his enjoyment comes from creating something new or better. Simon has experienced success and sometimes failed, but as an entrepreneur, he explains how the learning from when things don’t work out is what makes it possible to adapt and see the opportunities that only an entrepreneur can when looking for the next success. KEY TAKEAWAYS It’s about looking at a business with fresh eyes and recognising what could be done better. Simon loves starting from the bottom up and being a disrupter in whichever sector he goes into. A great example is what Simon has done with his yachts and jets businesses, where he has disrupted the model and made co-ownership of yachts and jets affordable, often cutting the costs in half!! Having a real focus on the customer has always been at the heart of Simon’s ethos You’re not as brave when you start out in business but as you get more experience that gives you the confidence to push out of your comfort zone, challenge and do things differently If you go out in business and try to do it well you stand a good chance of success. There are always ways where you can use technology or another external factor to make it more efficient It’s a key motivator to be working in something that you enjoy. If you wake up in the morning feeling excited about what you do then that’s the best place to be. The biggest message from Simon is get out there and just do it! Be brave enough to step out. I’ve learnt from the things that have gone wrong and its always about getting out there and getting started. As an entrepreneur, if you fail, you learn from it, move on,adapt, gain confidence and grow from there. Failure as an entrepreneur is hard to get to as you never see it that way but instead pivot and use that failure to create new businesses Often when you plan for failure that will be where you will be because you are not looking for success. Success isn’t just about the money, it’s really about the feeling of achieving something off your own back that means you are successful. We are all ordinary people it’s just some people strive for something else As an entrepreneur, you can take a business to a certain level but there is a point where the structure can place the entrepreneur at odds with the growing business. Entrepreneurs can lack the cheques and balance aspect required for a large organisation Surrounding yourself with the right people is a hugely important part of the journey to success for the entrepreneur. Ep 13Sphere of Influence & How to Maximise your Network
Relationships are at the heart of everything in business and its critical to build both new relationships and nurture and maintain the ones you already have.People seldom step back and look at relationships within the context of what they want to achieve. In this episode, Jeannette shares a simple but highly effective tool to maximise the relationships you have so that you can focus and nurture the important relationships that will make a difference to your business, career and life in general. KEY TAKEAWAYS When we think about relationships we often don’t categorise them into the level of influence someone has and the level of interest or direct involvement they have. However by doing this and drawing up a 4 box matrix either in our mind or physically on paper it can really change the game. People with a high level of influence who are very involved and interested in your business must be your priority – these sit in the top right hand quadrant of your sphere of influence Relationships with those who are not that interested in what you are doing and those that have no influence on what you want to achieve sit in the bottom left quadrant of your sphere of influence – you should not be focusing on these as they are casual observers. Those in your sphere who have no direct interest but are highly influential could be advocates for you and your business. Engage and nurture these individuals because they can be fantastic supporters even though they are not directly involved in what you are doing. The group who are highly involved and interested but do not have high levels of influence are your team, they are the ‘doers’ – it’s important to engage with these people, explain your vision so they are committed to the journey with you and what you’re trying to achieve and explain what’s in it for them You need to nurture these different relationships depending on which group they sit within and focus your effort in the right areas to ensure you leverage your sphere of influence to the maximum. You can use the matrix to review your relationships and see those that you should be prioritise and nurture, and those which you should pay much less attention to. It’s rare that we think about our network and relationships in this way but it’s such a simple but effective tool to use. Jeannette is with Garry Wilson who has over 20 years’ experience in the travel sector and is currently CEO of Easy Jet Holidays. They discuss the role of the entrepreneur and the entrepreneurial spirit that exists within the travel space, even within the corporate world. The travel industry has a whole range of businesses from large corporates to solopreneurs. Garry has always found great opportunities for his entrepreneurial spirit to thrive in all the businesses he’s been in and this episode is a hugely inspiring insight into what it takes. KEY TAKEAWAYS Having the ability to take ownership gives you confidence and drives you forward. Entrepreneurs and the entrepreneurial spirit can and does exist within big organisations The hotel industry is made up of entrepreneurs and their drive and passion is infectious and they have huge energy, which Garry has learnt so much from.In any approach, the most important thing is to make a decision. If you can articulate the vision and know what it is then you can take the decision and move forward. Surround yourself with people who are like-minded. Easy Jet Holidays is a start-up within the construct of a corporate, which is the perfect combination to be entrepreneurial but with the backing of a big brand behind you Having the right power team around you is key and building a team of really smart people who you can nurture and develop enables people to take ownership. As a CEO it’s important to ensure that any opinion you give is adding value. Being surrounded by inspirational people and being mentored by them means you can ask questions and they will help to develop you. Always try to be in a place where you enjoy working with the people who are around you. You can’t do it all on your own, role models and mentors are key. The successful entrepreneur or start-up has to be characterised by the number of failures along the way because otherwise, you don’t have the potential to make it. It’s a reccurring theme across the Brave Bold Brilliant Podcast but today Jeannette really delves deep into its importance in business, career and life. Jeannette believes that we can all achieve whatever we want in life if we are in the right mindset because it’s the key that can unlock our potential. She shares the elements that will dramatically improve your mindset and move you closer to achieving your dreams. KEY TAKEAWAYS The mind is a complex space and we all have those inner voices that can stop us from getting started. It’s important to recognise what’s happening and choose a different course of action. If you can recognise what’s happening and pause, you can then choose a measured response, rather than reacting in your subconscious/gut instinct way that you’ve done historically Lack of self-belief is often at the core of peoples problems and is demonstrated in many of the mentee clients that Jeannette has Mindset is a very complex area but you can master skills that will help you. Jeannette shares with you, her BELIEF system that has helped her personally over the years along with many of the people she works with: B - Brave take the first step E – Experience and Education - helps you fill knowledge gaps and gain confidence L - Love – if you love what you do you will give it your best and work doesn’t feel like work I – Influencers - your network is a vital part and its necessary to be around those who will encourage you. E – Energy – keeping your energy high helps you be in a good place and looking after yourself will contribute to your success. F – Focus – don’t get distracted focusing your time and effort is where you will see results These elements will make a massive difference to your mindset and being able to achieve your dreams. Ep 8Kevin McDonnell - From £130,000 in debt to multi-millionaire property investor
Join a wonderfully inspiring episode of the Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast as Jeannette is joined by serial entrepreneur, property investor and mentor Kevin McDonnell. Together they discuss never giving up on your dreams and how short term pain can lead to long term gain. They also consider the importance of aligning yourself with like-minded people, and how doing so allowed Kevin to leave his full-time job, clear his debts and become financially free. KEY TAKEAWAYS It is very easy to do nothing. It is very easy to stay in a job you do not enjoy for fear of quitting as the environment is comforting for you and the people whom you work with are familiar. These people, however, will usually turn out to not be business-minded, whereas surrounding yourself with like-minded business thinking people will allow you to go on and create a successful business. This is your journey. It is not the journey of your friends and family and you have got to live your dream, don’t give up on your dream for any reason. It is very easy to let life get in the way when you could be moving your business forward. It has got to be about having short term pain for a long time gain. Throughout your life and certainly within the school system you will have been fed an ideal career and life path you should follow. It is only when you start aligning yourself with the right kind of people that you will see begin to see a change in yourself and your mindset. Surround yourself with people who will tell you ‘you’re not thinking big enough’ and ‘you can achieve more’. Be yourself and no matter what you will align yourself to people that will want to work with you in business as well as forming good friendships. If you continuously try to be somebody you are not and are not true to yourself, you will eventually be found out and end up back at square one. If you’re in a situation where you are unhappy, you only ever have three choices. These three choices are: change it, accept it or leave it. It is a simple concept, however, the majority of people choose to accept it rather than changing it. Sometimes we can be so focused on the end result in which we desire, that we do not enjoy the journey on the way. Whilst it is great to be ambitious and have an end goal to strive towards, you must remember to enjoy yourself along the way. BEST MOMENTS “Nothing else except property had the ability to create the income that I needed.” “They don’t mean to hold you back, what they’re doing is they are protecting you.” “We only have one life, so let's enjoy it whilst we’re here.” ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality and property sectors. Ep 7Your Personal Journey Timeline
Many of us often don’t take the time to reflect on our personal journeys however, it is always useful to reflect on where you are today by taking the lessons of the past. Join Jeanette today as she guides you through a simple exercise which allows you to look at your personal journey timeline and identify key milestones, people and curveballs that got you where you are today and what this means for you going forward. KEY TAKEAWAYS Your personal journey timeline is about looking back and reflecting on the key moments that you have had in life and being able to pinpoint those key milestones in terms of how that shaped who you are today. Reflecting on your journey helps to set the context of where you are now, and it helps you build an understanding of the person you have become through all of those years of experience be it in a business sense or in your personal life. This building and knowing you who you are, warts and all is a refreshing way to do. Take a blank piece of paper and draw a timeline, noting down your significant life events that have influenced you in the journey that you have been on. Focus on events, milestones and transitions that have had an impact on your development, these can be positive or negative and personal or professional events. Note down opportunities that made a difference in your life that helped you grow and develop, identify the obstacles that got in the way of your journey as well as noting down any unexpected delights that happened. Add in the name of individuals who were significant in your life and who contributed to your development or possibly those who hindered your development. Ask yourself what lessons you learned along the way, what you learned about yourself, the people that helped you the most and how you operate best. As you look at your timeline, think about what new understanding emerges and what does that, therefore, mean for you going forward. BEST MOMENTS “You can't drive a car by looking through a rearview mirror, however, I do think it is a useful thing to do to reflect” “The reality is, what happens in your personal life affects your work and business life and vice versa.” “There’s going to be so many lessons when you take the time to go back and reflect.” VALUABLE RESOURCES ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality and property sectors. Ep 6Chris Browne OBE - from the streets of Strabane in Northern Ireland to Chief Operating Officer of Easyjet!
In the previous episode of the podcast Jeannette talked about being a successful woman in business and today she is joined by one of aviation’s leading businesswomen, Chris Browne OBE, former Chief Operating Officer of Easyjet and Chief Operating Officer of TUI Airlines.. Chris was awarded an OBE for her services to aviation in 2013. Together they discuss the importance of strong female role models in young girls’ lives to allow them to reach their full potential, leadership skills and how growing up through the troubles in Northern Ireland shaped Chris to become the woman she is today. KEY TAKEAWAYS Once you have been through huge challenges and faced difficult decision making in your career, you certainly know how to tackle those problems again - you don’t hesitate twice and you know the levers that you have to pull. Automatically for women, so many career paths are just closed off because women themselves are not even considering following these routes. It is important that kids, particularly young girls have strong role models, and we are able to open kids' eyes to what’s out there and that they can do anything they want. This is especially true for children from underprivileged backgrounds that may not have the same opportunities as others. Any strong leader worth their salt will know when you have to dive into the detail and when you have to step back. You need to learn not to be afraid to hire people that are better than yourself. It’s also key to have the good grace to let them get on with their job, not interfere and know when it is necessary to step in. It is always appreciated when you are able to work for companies where you are able to be yourself. It is really important to be authentic and not forget your roots and where you came from. Leadership is about looking behind and who is following you instead of looking above. It is important to ignore the self-doubt that you may have, you may look back on your time and regret how much you listened to it. Get on with the opportunity you have been given and trust in yourself. If there's one thing that tough circumstances can teach you it is to never give up, always fight for what is right. That has to be a rule in life itself and it is a tremendous feeling of what you should and shouldn’t do and having that element of moral justice. Because, when you do experience tough circumstances first hand it leaves a lasting impression on you. BEST MOMENTS “The very first thing I remember being said to me as I walked into the reception at 8 o’clock on a Monday morning, quite nervous and a guy said to the receptionist ‘oh my word have you heard, they’re sending a woman to run the airline, what will they think of next.” “Deep down inside I was terrified. I thought, is this me? Am I finished career-wise?” “Don’t tell me I can't do something because that really riles me, and I’ll just do the opposite and try and prove you wrong.” ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette is an experienced and highly regarded senior executive, property investor and board advisor with over 25 years global professional experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality and property sectors. Jeannette’s passion for diversity and inclusion in the workplace has been with her throughout her career and as a strong advocate for personal development and transformation Jeannette now supports other businesses and individuals to achieve their full potential. Having diversified her career by stepping into property investing with partner Chris, their combined knowledge and drive has seen their businesses flourish and plans to expand their portfolio are opening up opportunities for others to invest with them. ABOUT THE GUEST: Chris Browne OBE former Chief Operating Officer of Easyjet and Chief Operating Officer of TUI Airlines, has achieved a number of significant ‘firsts’ throughout her career. She started her career in 1984 at Marsans Travel, a Spanish holiday company. In 1986 she joined Iberia Airlines, rising to become General Manager for the UK and Ireland by 1991. She joined Carlson Worldchoice in 1996 and moved on to First Choice in 1999, where she became head of Air2000, the group’s airline.Chris became Managing Director of First Choice Airways in Manchester from 2002-2007 when she led the merger of First Choice and Thomson to create Britain’s third-largest airline, Thomson Airways — an achievement she managed in just nine months. Since then, she has held the post of Managing Director for Thomson Airways and Chief Operating Officer of TUI Airlines responsible for a cost base of €3.5bn, €4.1bn revenue and 25million passengers. At Easyjet where Chris was Chief Operating Officer she had responsibility for an operational cost base of £4bn and a team of 10,000 people. Ep 510 Top Tips as a Woman In Business
Diversity in the workplace offers many benefits, from creative problem solving to representing the general population. Today Jeannette discusses her top 10 tips for women to gain equality in business. Today's episode highlights the importance of women mastering their mindset and self-belief. Jeannette discusses how this can allow you to create new opportunities for yourself, how to create your personal brand and why a linear career path may not always be the most practical route to reach your career goals. KEY TAKEAWAYS One of the most critical areas for women in business is mastering their mindset and self-belief, as women we often lack this in comparison to male colleagues. When you are in the right mindset you are mentally ready to take on those opportunities when they come up as well as creating new opportunities for yourself. It is important to be realistic about what balance really is and being fully present in the moment. To give everything the best you possibly can, but also stop beating yourself up for the time when you are in your other space. Having confidence isn’t about being arrogant but about being comfortable in your own shoes, being able to go for it even if you don’t feel like it. If you work hard at your confidence over time, it will become easier and become a natural learned skill. Whether we like it or not, we are all being judged by others. Have a think about how you want to come across, what your values are, and how you want to present yourself. This is not about being disingenuous about who you are, but your personal brand stands for who you are and how you present yourself is a reflection of that. If you are ambitious and would like to work your way up the ladder or start your own business, there is usually more than one route to get there, it is worth thinking creatively about the different options that you have in particular. As a woman it might be that you need to be creative about how you reach your end goal, be clear on what you want but at the same time it does not have to be a linear career path. In life we are going to get knock backs, not everything goes our way. If you are able to grow a bit of a thicker skin and be resilient through the knock backs and be able to pick yourself up and dust yourself off, this will help you in the long run. BEST MOMENTS “Globally, women earn just 63% of a man's wage, even women doing the same job as a man get just 77% of what men earn, and that just feels inherently wrong in today's society.” “If you’re struggling with your self-belief it is helpful to see other role models that have actually done what you’re trying to achieve and that can massively help.” “Having a few ‘go to’ people that you can get some support, encouragement and opinions can absolutely help massively. If you can get mentors or coaches that again can really transform the situation for yourself.” ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette is an experienced and highly regarded senior executive, property investor and board advisor with over 25 years global professional experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality and property sectors. Ep 46 Steps To Scoping Out Your Vision And Action Plan
Join Jeannette today and discover how you can scope out your vision and action plan using her simple 6 step model. Jeannette outlines the importance of having a clear purpose and vision so you know where your life is heading, highlighting your core values and where they come from as well as learning how you create smart objectives and how to measure the success of them. KEY TAKEAWAYS It is important to have a clear purpose and vision. If you know where you’re heading then it is much easier to get there more efficiently. If you do not know what you want then you can just wander around directionless. Having a clear vision allows you to focus on the things that are really important to you. The first part of the model is the visioning piece, this is where you can do your big thinking and try to test yourself and be honest with yourself. Ask yourself big questions such as ‘what is your reason why?’, What do you want from life?’, ‘What kind of person do you want to become?’ and ‘What sort of legacy do you want to leave behind?’. Your values are the core ways that you live your life, and they outline what is important to you. What are your core values? Why are they important to you? And where do they come from? Values in life can come from childhood, family and friends, these values will direct the way that you want to live your life. You may have some overriding objectives, or you may have some specific objectives for each of your focus areas, whatever works for you is fine. What you need to ensure is making sure your objectives are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Timebound). KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) allow you to start putting some metrics in terms of each of your objectives. These indicators can be anything from profits to weekly new leads and even personal goals such as weight loss. These really help to measure whether or not we have been successful. BEST MOMENTS “It is great having a vision, but at the same time you need to be able to take action and take practical steps to make it a reality.” “If you know what you want and what you can achieve in life, you can really bring those people you are about on the same journey as yourself.” “The people you spend time with can sometimes be a blocker. If you want to focus on something and fulfil your purpose, make sure you’re spending time with people that are going to encourage support and lift you up.” ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette is an experienced and highly regarded senior executive, property investor and board advisor with over 25 years global professional experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality and property sectors. Ep 3Transition From Corporate Into Entrepreneurial
Many people dream about leaving their corporate 9-5 jobs and following their dreams of creating their own business empire, but just don’t know where to start. If you’re one of those people then don’t miss today's episode as Jeannette talks us through transitioning from the corporate world to the entrepreneurial world by ensuring you’re in the right mindset, the importance of creating implementation plans and why investing in yourself by using mentorships will allow you to maximise your true potential. KEY TAKEAWAYS If you have those feelings deep down inside that there is more to life, and you want to do something different, take the advice given and absolutely follow your dreams and pursue your passion. Take stock, assess what is important in your life and come to the conclusion of what you want from your career. Ask yourself some quite big questions such as: ‘What kind of person do I want to be?’ ‘What legacy do I want to leave behind?’ ‘What are the dreams I have that I have not fulfilled?’. Don’t think small, have a big vision, fulfil your dreams, reach your potential and have no regrets. With the right mindset, you can achieve absolutely anything in life. However, if you have been in a certain sector or career, a big change can sometimes feel quite daunting and you may have doubts about yourself. Timing is key, because if your mind isn’t set for this big change then the chances are you are just going to procrastinate and not take action. Create an implementation plan. Starting by working backwards and by breaking it down into small individual actions that you are able to take actions on every single day. Allocate resources from your own experience and time or by lining up the correct resources that will enable you to move over into your new venture. The best investment you can ever make is in yourself. If you are moving into a new business venture, you may have some knowledge gaps. You can fill in those gaps in numerous ways such as books, formal education, mentorships and coaches. You have to take action. It is critical to compartmentalise your diary so that you can take action in the right areas. Once you take the first few steps and you are moving along your set plan, all of a sudden you will gather momentum and you will realise that you have actually done quite a lot, but you just have to start. It is about creating a new structure and new routines to live by. BEST MOMENTS “I just thought there was more to me, and the best of me was yet to come.” “Aim for the moon and you will land amongst the stars.” “If you can find people that have trodden the road before you then that is a great way of learning from people that that have been there before.” “You need to get to the point where your ‘shoulds’ become musts’ because then you will take action.” ABOUT THE HOST: Jeannette is an experienced and highly regarded senior executive, property investor and board advisor with over 25 years global professional experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality and property sectors. Ep 27 Top Tips For a Successful Career
If you’re just starting out in a new career or wondering how to ensure you have a successful one, then join Jeannette today as she discusses her top 7 tips to ensure you have a successful career. Today, she looks at why it is important to have self-belief and understand that you deserve every opportunity you have been given, how loving what you do will make it feel as if you’re not even working, and how failing is not really a failure at all, it is just a learning process. KEY TAKEAWAYS Believe in yourself. Very often, the imposter syndrome can kick in where perhaps you don’t feel good enough or feel you don’t deserve a seat at the table, which is all nonsense, because you absolutely do deserve every opportunity that life throws at you. Be really clear on your vision and your purpose for what you want to achieve. If you know where you’re heading, it is much easier to get there, you will get there faster and with a lot less heartache along the way. Work hard, and work smart. You have to put the effort in, you have to take action, nothing happens for nothing. Having a strong work ethic is important but working smart is even more important. If you don't take action, nothing will happen, things don’t happen miraculously. Surround yourself with the right people – people who will lift you up, support you, give you encouragement and advice but will also call you out if you’re kidding yourself or not doing enough. Whatever you do don’t let the naysayers put you off. Put yourself out there – build relationships, be yourself, be kind to others, don’t think about what’s in it for you, always try to do good by the other person. Treat other people as you’d like to be treated yourself. If you love what you do, you won’t feel like you’re working. The ability to be able to merge your passion with your profession is great. Try to ensure that you follow a passion and if you can do that then truly, you don’t feel like work is an arduous thing at all. Don’t be afraid to fail. You can't always win, but don’t be afraid to fail. Fear or failure, judgment and losing will really stop you. If you are always worried about what you are going to lose and not focusing on what we could gain, then sometimes we will never even try. Failure isn’t really a failure at all, it is all learning. BEST MOMENTS “Very often we don’t just pause for breath and think about the lessons we’re learning along the way and how we can be an even better version of ourselves if we actually did take stock a little bit more.” “So often I will hear people say ‘I should have, I would have, I could have’ but they didn’t.” “I’m a massive believer in the law of reciprocity, what goes around, comes around. I believe that if you’re kind to people and treat other people how you would like to be treated yourself then absolutely that will come back to you tenfold.” ABOUT THE HOST: Jeannette is an experienced and highly regarded senior executive, property investor and board advisor with over 25 years global professional experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality and property sectors. Ep 1Intro to BBB & Jeannette's journey
In the exclusive first episode of The Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast, former corporate CEO turned entrepreneur Jeannette Linfoot takes you through her journey on how she worked hard from the bottom up to reach CEO of large businesses in the corporate world and to now becoming the owner of multiple successful businesses. Join Jeannette as she talks you through her upbringing in Manchester, surrounded by people who instilled her with a hard work ethic and a belief that anything is possible, enabling her to become the first person in her family to go to university. Also learn how she found the perfect working environments enabling her to flourish in her career. She also talks about how working internationally, in culturally diverse environments, taught her how to navigate her way through different business and personal relationships. Jeannette’s nearly 30 years in business all comes together with the launch of the Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast. Jeannette is a passionate believer that we all have greatness within us and that we can achieve anything in life, as long as we are brave, bold and brilliant. Grabbing opportunities, dealing with challenges and taking risks but being the ‘true’ you are core to Jeannette’s values. KEY TAKEAWAYS It is a good skill to learn the value of working hard, and that people don’t just give you anything for nothing in this life. Learning this will stay with you throughout your time and your career. Being brought up by parents who instill a hard work ethic into you will help you in life and allow you to take ownership and responsibility. Finding the right culture and environment where you can really flourish, be challenged but accepted for who you are is critical to success. If anybody is thinking about where they are right now, if it doesn’t feel right or you don’t share the same values as those around you then think about whether that is what you want and where you want to be now and in the future. You may come across situations in your life where you feel very uncomfortable and out of your comfort zone.Think to yourself ‘I’ll give it a go, how bad can it be?’. Don’t be afraid to fail. You can’t always win but don’t be afraid to fail. Just put yourself out there and then great things can happen. Working in a culturally diverse environment will teach you how to navigate your way through different relationships in a sensitive and respectful way and how to adapt your style accordingly in order to get the right results. It is important to have clarity and purpose and knowing what you want to achieve in life, because once you know that you can take steps to achieve your potential. Many people never fulfil their dreams, we don’t want to be one of those people, we want to push on and achieve everything we can in life. When you’re making a big change in your career, it is always worth considering: ‘where are your strengths?’ ‘where have you already got experience, that you’re confident in?’ and therefore when you do start out on a new venture, it is not so scary because you’re pulling on all of that experience and hard-earned knowledge. BEST MOMENTS “Exploring how by being brave, bold and brilliant we can really do fabulous things in our careers, in our business lives and in our personal lives.” “You need to be able to do what you need to do to survive” “Being culturally aware, taught me a lot. Not only how to do business in different business environments with different cultural dimensions, but it taught me a lesson in life..” “It was time for me to be more entrepreneurial, it was time for me to have my own businesses, to invest my own money and to have the variety of a portfolio rather than being a CEO of a large corporate business.” ABOUT THE HOST: Jeannette is an experienced and highly regarded senior executive, property investor and board advisor with over 25 years global professional experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality and property sectors.
