Jeannette and Pete also explain how adversity and even failure can be used to make positive change. KEY TAKEAWAYS Giving back feels so great because the desire to help others is a fundamental human trait. Helping others helps you. Find the positive in negative situations. Reinvention is a powerful thing, and it is something that anyone can do. Wanting to be the best that you can be is a great driver. We can all inspire others by our actions and achievements. Pain can drive you forwards. Michael Jordan was dropped from his school team. His Mom told him to take action and show them that they were wrong. It's becoming more acceptable to talk about your struggles, which is good, but you also need to act. Minimise the fallout from failure by viewing it as a learning experience. Don´t let fear, the judgment of others, or failure stop you from trying something. If you give it a go and it doesn´t work, it doesn´t matter. Just give it another go. Focus on the opportunities, the good that can come out of what you are doing. There´s no substitute for hard work. BEST MOMENTS ‘We are all bold, brave, and brilliant. But we can all become more brave, bold, and brilliant. ´ ‘Personal reinvention is a really powerful thing.’ ‘Learn to think greater – thoughts create emotions and emotion is what produces motion.’ ‘It’s not about what I have achieved it is what I can do for you.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Tony Robbins TED Talk – Why We Do What We Do VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series Pete coaches legacy driven Entrepreneurs into legacy making Ultrapreneurs. Ep 79Is your reason why strong enough?
In this episode, Jeannette explains why having a purpose and strong reasons for living your life in certain ways is so important for happiness and success. How having a strong why will carry you through the lows, enabling you to achieve your dreams. KEY TAKEAWAYS There are two things (forces) that push us forwards. Needing to get out of a bad situation or having something we desperately want to achieve. The dream that you have needs to be so attractive to you that you are compelled to fulfil it. When things are not going well, pause and remember why you are trying to achieve that dream. The more compelling your reasons why are the more likely they are going to pull you forward. When bad situations force you to change, focusing on what you stand to gain rather than just on what you are about to lose will help you to stay positive. BEST MOMENTS ‘It is important to have a compelling reason why. ´ ‘Pull is something that attracts you to it, it´s compelling.’ ‘(when getting away from a bad situation) focus on moving towards something positive, rather than moving on away from something negative.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor, and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality, and property sectors. Ep 78Paul Lowe founder of World Game-Changers - Learn to Love Yourself
In this episode, Jeannette speaks to Paul Lowe founder of World Game-Changers, coach, mentor, writer, podcaster, and entrepreneur. His 3 Pillars of Life' model enabled him to overcome terrible life experiences. To leave a life of addiction, violence, and self-destructive tendencies behind. He and Jeanette discuss that journey and Paul shares practical advice that anyone can start using immediately to improve their life. Paul also speaks about philanthropy. Explaining the benefits, it brings to everyone and how to make it a part of your life to help you to improve your situation and that of others. KEY TAKEAWAYS Everyone needs a purpose, a why, to enable them to create a path through adversity for themselves. We all need the love and support of others. Take the good from bad situations. You can learn from them and use that to benefit yourself and others in the future. You also need to let go of the negative things about that situation. Let it go - are the most important words you can say to anyone. Self-love is something that a lot of people struggle with because they think they are being selfish. Self-love is not selfish – you need to be in good shape to be able to help others. Don´t wait to reach rock bottom to start working on dealing with your issues and learning to love yourself. You are never too old to learn, do something different and improve your life. We are all a work in progress until the day we die. If you aim to leave the world a better place than when you found it, you will do a lot of good. Little changes make a huge difference in how you feel and what you can achieve. Everyone has something to offer, which means we are all great, one way or another. However dark things get, don´t give up, there are people out there that care and will help. You will find a way through. BEST MOMENTS ‘I had neither the intellectual or emotional stability nor capability, intelligence or awareness... to understand that what was going off was raw survival. ´ ‘There´s always a way out.’ ‘If you don´t love yourself, you don´t like yourself and you don´t take care of yourself.’ ‘In life, you can only get on the back of one horse. You can´t ride two, so choose wisely.’ GUEST RESOURCES https://www.paul-lowe.com/ www.WorldGameChangers.org VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor, and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality, and property sectors. As well as touching on subjects such as diversity in the business world and her work with The Founder´s Factory and everywoman. Jeannette then rounds things up by sharing details of her free masterclass podcasts, which are designed to get people started on the journey to success. KEY TAKEAWAYS Jeannette loved her job. But wanted to do something for herself and have the freedom to make her own choices. Sometimes you need to be brave – stop what you are doing and try something else. Not everything needs to be planned out fully in advance. For Jeanette, the kind of business she runs evolved over time. Taking a step back and gives you the headspace to work out what you really want to do. As you age you become more self-aware which helps you to make wiser life choices. Growing as a person is important. It plays a big role in happiness and success. Don´t be afraid to try something new. When you put yourself out there into the world in a certain way, often opportunities come to you. Most successful people say that they “just put it out into the universe”. The new social media platform Clubhouse is a great way to meet new people, network and uncover new opportunities. The property industry attracts a lot of women, who are very successful at it. In business, working with a diverse group of people brings benefits and aids success. KEY TAKEAWAYS When learning something complicated break it down into smaller steps to make it more manageable. If you are too stressed when trying to learn something complicated, it won´t go in. It is important to know your ´why´, if you don´t you will drift. When you simply drift through life you can easily get into a rut and end up spending most of your time doing things you don´t really like. The people you spend time with have a huge impact on the kind of life you lead. Self-belief is vital. Don't hold things in, you need to talk to someone about the issues you are facing in life. If you don't you are highly likely to suffer from mental health problems. Bringing your body back into harmony enables your it´s healing processes to work properly again. The human body is designed to heal itself. Work out who you are, stick with that and be true to yourself. BEST MOMENTS ‘If you are trying to learn something complicated and you´re too stressed you won´t take it in. ´ ‘What beliefs you have make a huge difference to what you do.’ ‘The human body is made to heal itself.’ ‘Tune into your gut, be guided by that.’ ABOUT THE GUEST Tony has encountered and overcome a number of challenges in his life including: Cultural and racial identity confusion Parental rejection and violence Mental illness including severe depression and a suicide attempt resulting in being sectioned and detained under the Mental Health Act. 29 sessions of Electro-Convulsive Therapy and 48 years of anti-depressants Homelessness and unemployment Addiction to drink and drugs A cancer scare which turned his life around Tony is now an advocate of natural health, having dealt with his demons and wants to help others discover the benefits. Ep 75One size does not fit all - drive your own agenda at your own pace
In this episode, Jeannette speaks about the importance of going on your own journey and doing things at your own pace. She shares several examples of extraordinarily successful people who have done exactly that. Then quickly outlines how you can identify and follow your own path at your own pace. KEY TAKEAWAYS Everyone is different, which is why a one size fits all approach to life and careers does not work. People need to move at their own pace. For example, not everyone is ready to launch into a lifelong career immediately after leaving school. There is nothing that says you have to set up a successful business when you are still young. Many phenomenally successful people have not had a traditional university education. Some are even dyslexic. Some people never have kids, others have theirs with several different partners. Not everyone wants or needs a nuclear family to be happy. Einstein said: “Not everything that counts can be counted” (identified and quantified) If you don´t yet know what you want out of life, don´t beat yourself up. It will become clear to you over time. Don´t be pressured by other people and what you think is expected of you. BEST MOMENTS ‘Going at your own pace and creating your own journey is so important.’ ‘Embrace the fact that it’s your life. It´s not anyone else´s life. ´ ‘Choose the things that are going to make you happy and not someone else.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor, and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality, and property sectors. Ep 74Dodge Woodall, Bournemouth 7s Festival Founder & Co-Host Harry Redknapp Show– Just Do It!!!!
In this episode, Jeannette interviews Dodge Woodall who is the founder and CEO of Bournemouth 7´s Festival. He has his own podcast and is the co-host of the Harry Redknapp podcast. Dodge started to make money at the age of 10 and has been an entrepreneur ever since. As a student, he spotted a huge gap in the market, ended up running 12 nightclub parties every week, then switched to festivals and decided to take the unique approach of combining sports tournaments with live music in a field. Dodge also explains how he found a way to deliver tailored sports kits in 4 instead of 12 weeks, changing the industry in the process. He also talks about the creation of his event management course, which enables students to gain a recognized qualification in months instead of spending years at university studying for an events degree. KEY TAKEAWAYS Win-win deals enable you to reliably make money. We are surrounded by opportunities to make a deal or sell. Being yourself is key to success. Keep your personal and work life simple. If you are passionate about something, do it - merge your passion with your profession. When you have an idea, get a brand logo made, taking that small step commits you to do something about it. Don´t let fear rule you, stop worrying about the future and live in the now. Stop feeling guilty about the past, you can´t change it, so don´t let it drag you down. Think about how you can do things differently and do it better. Finding weaknesses in other businesses, and finding solutions, is a great way to come up with business ideas and beat the competition. Be curious and ask lots of questions. CoVid has created opportunities as well as problems and will continue to do so. If something doesn't work, it's not a failure, you might just need tweak it. Ep 73How to Shape your Identity and Brand to Achieve Permanent Change
In this episode, Jeannette shares effective ways to shape your personal and business brands in ways that achieve permanent change. She explains why what you tell yourself you are has such a profound impact on what you achieve. Jeanette shares 5 tips anyone can use to build a strong personal identity and a powerful brand. KEY TAKEAWAYS What you tell yourself you are has a big impact on what you can become. Most of us have at least some self-limiting beliefs. Limiting beliefs can be carried over from childhood or be because you have been in the same role for so long. The stories you tell yourself speak to your subconscious mind that is why they are so powerful. Set up your brand to reflect the type of business you are planning to end up with. Creating a strong identity for your company pushes you to deliver on that. None of this happens without you following through with action. In the business context identity equals brand. When you have a strong identity, you will own the space. Imposter syndrome leads to you getting in your own way. Identify the thing that makes you stand out from your competitors. Decide on what you want to create and achieve. Market the hell out of your personal brand. BEST MOMENTS ‘What you tell yourself you are is absolutely what you end up achieving and being in life.’ ‘What absolutely does make us happy is when we feel we´re moving forward and being true to ourselves. ´ ‘Identify and articulate what your competitive advantage is.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor, and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality, and property sectors. Ep 72Steve Endacott Serial Entrepreneur – Don´t be Afraid to Fail, Give it a Go!
In this episode, Jeannette speaks to Steve Endacott, serial entrepreneur, director, chairman and founder of multiple travel, leisure, tech, and financial services businesses. Steve is unsurprisingly seen as a thought leader and, in the past year alone, has founded three new businesses and is involved with managing several others. After quickly outlining his varied career, including why at the age of 25 he said no to a huge opportunity and went traveling instead, Steve explains how he has managed to work at a senior level in several firms while founding and successfully running his own businesses. He shares details of how he manages his work-life balance, repeatedly building successful teams and handling wrapping up or selling a business. KEY TAKEAWAYS Travel makes you grow up quickly and turns you into a well-rounded person. Working in an environment that suits you enables you to flourish and achieve. Going bust teaches you a huge amount. When a business is in trouble, there sometimes comes a point where it is better to give up rather than carry on - fail fast, move on. The more people you have working for you the more emotionally engaged you are and the harder it is to give up and let a floundering business fold. There is no point in earning lots of money only to take it to the grave - make time to enjoy the rewards. Don´t forget about your partner at home, it is easy to get too wrapped up in work. Think about the people around you and treat them fairly. Keep a note of the ideas you have, so when you have time you always have something new to launch. Share the profits with the people who run the business and gradually step away. When it is time to sell it will be much easier to find a buyer. Build a team that includes skills you don´t have and sees things differently. BEST MOMENTS ‘Traveling made me a much more rounded, much more competent person.’ ‘The best thing that´s ever happened to me was failure. ´ ‘Work is one thing, but you´ve got to enjoy the rewards.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series ABOUT THE GUEST Steve Endacott has the unusual distinction of having extensive experience within both the corporate and entrepreneurial environments. Steve is now “Semi-Retired” having sold Holiday Taxis Ltd one of the business he co-founded during his Entrepreneurial career for £60.5m in January 2019. He however continues to invest in startup business and has recently launched new business to exploit the changing marketplace created by Covid-19. These include Rebound Consulting to exploit “Phoenix” opportunities in the travel sector Funky Face Mask, with 400k sales in 7 months of B2B facemasks. Canny Finance. FinTech marketing play using the “Travel Data lake” of customers travelling on holiday to promote a new foreign exchange master card offering 3% cash back Endacott is experienced, in moving from business idea, to prototype build, recruitment of management teams and raising funds to drive start up business forward. Steve also continues to Chair a number of substantial travel business such as Teletext Holidays and Rock Insurance. However, Steve has built his present entrepreneurial business activities by pulling on 15 years of experience leading traditional package tour operators. Steve’s corporate career involved high profile directorships in some of the UK’s largest tour operating groups spanning financial controller of International Leisure Group to Deputy Chief Operating Officer of MYTravel Plc and included directorship over finance, yield management, marketing, contracting, overseas operations, sales and retail operations. Ep 71How to scale and grow your business
In this episode, Jeannette shares some of the tips she has picked up over the years that have helped her and her clients to scale and grow their businesses. The advice she shares works equally as well for those workers who want to help the firm that they work for to grow. KEY TAKEAWAYS When it comes to growth you need a money mindset. If you do not believe that you can grow, how are you going to convince anyone else that you can do it and get them to invest? You need to know your customer. Especially what problems you are solving for them. Don´t try to spread yourself too thinly. Spend time with your customers in a close and personal way. Create something your customer cannot live without. Jeannette provides you with a few pointers to help you to do that. Learn how to over-deliver. Data proves this drives growth. Hire people who are smarter than yourself then get out of their way and let them do the job. Understand that there is good and bad debt. You can use debt to power growth. Ep 695 Top Tips - How You Can Drop The Guilt
In this episode, Jeannette shares 5 tips to help you to get rid of feeling guilty about things that you have nothing to feel guilty about. As well as how to process those feelings in a healthy way should you make a mistake or fail to do something. Jeannette starts by looking at the neuroscience behind why we feel guilty. She then shares her tips to help you break free of negative guilt cycles and avoid getting into them in the first place. KEY TAKEAWAYS Feeling guilty all the time and beating yourself up is not healthy. Sometimes you feel guilty about things you haven´t done e.g., not getting through your to-do list. Guilt performs a powerful social function – it helps to govern our behaviour. There is a good neuroscience reason behind feeling guilty. Jeannette explains the mechanism in the podcast. We all tend to blow things out of proportion and feel really guilty about relatively small errors. Doing one bad thing does not make you a bad person. Be kind to yourself and forgive yourself. Apologizing helps to assuage guilt, but you need to be careful about how you do it. Jeannette explains in the podcast. Learning from the mistakes you make and the things you do wrong is still important. It just needs to be done in a balanced way. BEST MOMENTS ‘Sometimes you can feel guilty even for the things you haven´t done.’ ‘Actually, our brains reward us for feelings of guilt. ´ ‘But when it comes to feelings of guilt, you know, sometimes we blow it up out of all proportion.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor, and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality, and property sectors. Ep 68Mark Ormrod MBE, Royal Marine Veteran, Triple Amputee & Invictus Gold Medalist – Turning tragedy into opportunity
In this episode, Jeannette speaks to Mark Ormrod MBE, a Royal Marines veteran, who became a triple amputee when an improvised explosive device exploded while he was on foot patrol. Despite that, he recovered to the point where he now leads a full and active life and is a true inspiration to so many. Mark competed in 2 Invictus Games, winning 4 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals. Today, he is an inspirational speaker, podcaster, property investor and author who has also spent 10 years working in the charity sector. Mark explains how he managed to fight his way back to fitness after being told by one doctor he would never walk again. He shares some of the many lessons he learned. Including how this experience has shaped his life and enabled him to achieve so much since being injured. Including how it has helped him to succeed in business and his personal life. KEY TAKEAWAYS Mark was the first triple amputee in the UK since WWI so there was no roadmap for his recovery. Having someone who has been through something before you provide guidance makes the world of difference. When you see someone else do what others say is impossible, you know you can do the same and it motivates you. To get back to walking Mark had to carry on even when he was in pain and bleeding. Incremental gains still get you there - 1% is still progress. If you have something big to achieve, you need to break it down into smaller realistic goals to get there. Tragedy can open doors for you and provide opportunities, but it is up to you to take the next step and take advantage of them. There are tons of ways to make a good living, especially online. Have the right mindset and just take action. Don´t overcomplicate things. It's amazing what a good cry can achieve, it really can purge everything out of you. If you are at rock bottom you have to set a goal and work towards it. When you get things back on track after tragedy, stay humble and find ways to give back. Don’t be afraid to push yourself out of your comfort zone. BEST MOMENTS ‘If there´s something that you want to accomplish the fastest and easiest way to do it is to find someone who´s already accomplished it.’ ‘In less than a year, I went from a guy telling me I´m going to be in a wheelchair to not even owning one. ´ ‘Incremental gains – 1% is still progress.’ ‘The resources are there if you want to go out and do something.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series ABOUT THE GUEST In the early hours of Christmas Eve 2007, Royal Marines Commando Mark Ormrod was out on a routine foot patrol in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan when he stepped on and triggered an Improvised Explosive Device. Thanks to the swift action of the men around him and the intervention of the Medical Emergency Response Team he was airlifted via helicopter to an emergency field hospital in a desperate attempt to try and save his life. An innovative and dangerous procedure carried out onboard a Chinook helicopter en route to the hospital did save his life. He woke up three days later in the UK in Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham: Both legs amputated above the knee and his right arm amputated above the elbow. He was the UK’s first triple amputee to survive the Afghanistan conflict. During his recovery the doctors told him that he’d never walk again and that he should prepare himself for the rest of his life in a wheelchair. Now it would have been understandable for Mark to bitterly withdraw in a state of anger and depression and to resign himself to live life on the sidelines. It would have been easy for him to cash in his disability pension and whittle away the days, forever regretting the decision to join the Marines and to deploy to Afghanistan, but he didn’t. To the contrary he used his set back as a springboard for growth and reinvention. Today, Mark Ormrod is an internationally acclaimed motivational speaker, a peak performance coach, and the author of the award winning auto-biography Man Down. He is a source of daily inspiration for the thousands of people who follow him on Social Media. He has three children, a beautiful wife and an insatiable lust for life. He is a relentless charitable fund-raiser and a daredevil who has performed stunts that many able bodied athletes would find daunting. He has not used a wheel chair since June 9th 2009 and he jokes about the fact that children call him Iron-Man because of his high-tech prosthetics legs. As well as a peak performance coach he is a mentor and a role model to other amputees and an ambassador for the Royal Marines Association. His sense of humour is only equalled by his sense of wonder, love for learning and love for life. Mark Ormrod turned his personal tragedy into an on going story of personal success and he is now committed to helping others who may have suffered setbacks or feel they are not yet achieving their maximum potential to take charge of their lives, unleash their personal power and live a life with #NoLimits CONTACT METHOD http

Ep 673 Focus Areas For Business Leaders Profit, Growth & Brand Reputation
In this episode, Jeannette shares 3 of the areas business leaders need to focus on to achieve success. The advice she provides applies to all business leaders regardless of the size of the enterprise they are running. Her advice applies equally to those that lead teams within a business. Jeanette takes her listeners through the tried and tested method that keeps her business growing. If you feel that you are wading through mud and are struggling to work out what to focus on, this podcast is for you. It shows you how to prioritize profit, growth, and brand reputation. KEY TAKEAWAYS You need clarity and focus to take your business forward. Those that lead teams within a company also need this clarity and focus. It is not unusual for business leaders to feel lost, at times. But you can easily solve that issue and find the clarity you need. Good people are essential – without them, you cannot take your business in the direction you have chosen. Sit down, without distractions, and identify the projects and tasks you are currently spending time on as a business. Identify whether profit, growth, or brand reputation is most important, at the moment. Jeanette explains how to do this in the podcast. Having worked out where your focus should be, it is time to create an action plan. Incorporating targets into the action plan will keep things moving forward. Periodically reviewing whether you are still focusing on the right areas for your business will ensure you stay current and relevant. BEST MOMENTS ‘People think you’re the boss, you’ve got all the answers, often that is not the case.’ ‘Create the right environment to get your head around where you are now. ´ ‘If you don´t follow up with action, it is meaningless really.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor, and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality, and property sectors. Wingman covers all 3 aspects of Rory’s career of flying, sports and business. Strive to be the best you can be in everything you do. As soon as you know something let people know what’s going on – ‘work on the basis of no surprises’. It’s good to be optimistic, with a small element of pessimism, so you’re ready should things go wrong. A sense of resilience is really important to overcome and give things a go. Training, education and teamwork can be used to mitigate risk. Work-life balance does not necessarily mean 50:50, the split will be different for different people. As an entrepreneur you’re your worst boss, ‘you don’t pay yourself enough and don’t give yourself enough time off’ – it’s important to block downtime for yourself. Fundamentally as human beings we all make mistakes. Mutually beneficial relationships are key, and having the ability to work with like-minded people is a good place to be. For any business communication is key. In the podcast, Rory explains how to open up communication channels. If someone asks you what sounds like a stupid question, you have not explained it well enough. Being able to explain complicated things simply to potential clients helps you to sell more. Lots of people have the same challenges, so talk about it and you will get support and clarity Understanding what you as a company are trying to achieve and being customer-facing is essential. At some point as an entrepreneur you have to let go of the reigns High performance comes from having clarity of purpose, the right people, and efficient processes. Identify what is causing the drag in your businesses in order to lift your business and help you grow. Listen to anyone that wants to talk to you, but remember it is you that decides what to take from that conversation. BEST MOMENTS ‘I´ve always been an optimist with a small percentage of pessimism. Always looked on the bright side but also been ready for when it goes wrong.´ ‘The only mistake you’ll ever make is the one you don’t learn from’ ‘If you can´t describe something complicated, simply, then you don´t really understand it’ ‘There are lots of people out there who are facing the same interesting challenges, so talk about it’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series www.wingmanltd.com www.jeannettelinfootassociates.com ABOUT THE GUEST Rory Underwood is probably best known for his international rugby career. She shares details of her work as a property investor, mentor, board advisor and consultant, including some of the advice and tips, she gives to her clients. KEY TAKEAWAYS Anyone can achieve their potential in life. Role models play a vital role in tackling inequality of all kinds. If you see a role where you can do 70% of it, don´t focus on the 30% you have no direct experience of doing. Apply anyway. Everyone is different. There is no one size fits all solution. A mentor will tailor their approach to suit you so that you can make fast progress. Self-belief is critical to success. Imposter syndrome really holds you back. Having a clear vision of what you want to do is critical. The buy, refurbish, refinance property business is a great way to create passive income. Once you get your business processes in place most things become copy and paste. The majority of people already have most of the skills they need to successfully run a property business. Within the property industry, people are generally happy to help others who work in the field. CoVid is causing financial hardship, which will continue, but there are always opportunities out there. Ep 63Celebrate The Small Wins Along The Way
In this episode, Jeannette explains why it is important to celebrate the small things and the gifts along the way. She explains how to fit doing so into your life, even if you are extremely busy. Providing you with 7 simple steps to follow. KEY TAKEAWAYS Sometimes it is the small things that mean more than the big things. Don´t forget to enjoy the journey to success, pause to appreciate what you are doing. Little wins add up into incremental gains, so they should be celebrated. Stop thinking of failure as a bad thing. It isn´t, it is all part of the learning process. Spend five minutes consciously noticing things around you e.g., the birdsong. Doing so gives you a lift. Often, the things that are most important in life are nothing to do with work. Take time to think about those things. Don´t focus on what has not gone so well. Give yourself a break. Pause at some point in the day and think about 3 things you are grateful for. Ep 62Dan Pearce Owner & CEO Travel Trade Gazette – Struggling actor to Media Boss
In this episode, Jeannette talks to Dan Pearce, who is the CEO and owner of TTG Media. They talk about how he started out as an actor then switched to working for newspapers and magazines, via English language teaching in Italy, before joining TTG, taking part in a management buyout and becoming the CEO. Dan and Jeannette discuss how thinking out of the box, diversifying, and being more inclusive have helped the business to thrive. He explains how TTG is working to make travel smarter, better, and fairer. Dan covers how the CoVid crisis hastened their development online, starting a membership offering and having a loyal motivated team has enabled them to stay strong through the pandemic. KEY TAKEAWAYS Being nimble enabled Dan to make a success of a business that previously was under performing. Diversifying further into digital and the events field has helped TTG to grow. Business owners need to answer the question of why they exist, to provide focus. Having a clear vision keeps you on course. Before you decide to do something, you pause and ask yourself if it fits in with your vision. As a leader you need to surround yourself with the right people, you can't know and do everything. Belief and resilience go hand in hand, they keep you going when things go wrong. Getting through hard times in your personal life helps you to build resilience that you can benefit from in your business life. Blind optimism is not good. But you do need to be stoic. To know that you will prevail, and things will pan out in the long-term. In business, it is important not to spread yourself too thinly. You need to focus on the things that bring you the biggest wins. Ep 59The Two Most Powerful Words – I am
In this episode, Jeannette talks about two extremely powerful words – I am. She explains why they are so powerful and shares several ways you can use them to achieve what you want in life. The techniques she shares helps you to tap into the power of being clear about your goals, visualization, taking action, and gaining momentum. KEY TAKEAWAYS Achieving what you want in life starts with having the right mindset. Be clear on what you want to do in life and why. Once you are clear about what you want to be, instead of saying “I want to be XYZ”, start saying “I am XYZ”. Using I am phrasing influences you on a subconscious level. Your mind automatically starts to make decisions as if you are already the person you want to become. Visualising what it is you are trying to achieve or become and taking action is essential. Initially, the differences in the way you act will be small. But as you take each step, momentum will build, and soon the positive changes will come fast. BEST MOMENTS ‘Anything you want to achieve in life starts really with your mindset.’ ‘Who wants to settle for average, or mediocre, or to feel that you´ve not fulfilled your dreams? ´ ‘Visualise what it is that you´re trying to achieve and become. Then take action. Action equals results.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor, and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality, and property sectors. Ep 58Nick Ruddock Olympian Gymnastics Coach – Applying World-class Athletics Training to Create and Run a Thriving Business
In this episode, Jeannette speaks to Nick Ruddock who turned his passion for gymnastics into a full-time career. He has been coaching for 17 years, has coached for Team GB and Olympians, and today is a gymnastics consultant who runs his own successful business. Nick and Jeannette talk about how the approach athletes employ to excel can be used to take any business to the top. They discuss effective goal setting, mindset, managing failure, creating winning teams and bouncing back from adversity. KEY TAKEAWAYS Always lead with passion. If you get the chance to merge your passion with your work, do so. There are many commonalities between running a business and being a successful world-class athlete. Athletes and business owners need to set firm goals, measure their performance, then adjust their approach. You have to target your efforts. It's not enough to be busy. What you are doing has to move things forwards. Often, it is the small things that lead to the biggest gains. An athlete improving by just 1% can be enough for them to win. There are always opportunities, but you must prioritise wisely. Mindset is critical. Everyone is going to fail at some point. Failure is feedback, it is a normal part of the learning process. Over-confidence leads to complacency. Invest in educating yourself at all stages of your life and business journey. Being able to take sticky topics and simplify them enough so people can understand is a valuable skill. Stay true to your values. If you don´t you will lose passion and momentum. Being self-aware will help you to perform better whatever you want to do. Hold up a mirror to yourself. Be uncomfortable, then address your issues, and leverage those lessons. Be compassionate with yourself when you make mistakes. Address them but don´t beat yourself up about it. Trust your instincts. If something does not feel right park it or maybe, ask someone for a 2nd opinion. BEST MOMENTS ‘There's a lot of takeaways from the world of sports that can be translated into the world of business or in life in general’ ‘Always lead with passion´ ‘There's a real difference between being busy and actually being productive and making your business move forwards’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series www.jeannettelinfootassociates ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor, and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality, and property sectors. Ep 57Reflections on 2020 and Focus for 2021
In this episode, Jeannette reflects on the events of 2020 and how things worked out for her and Chris. She talks about which trends she expects to continue and about some of the new ones that she sees emerging. Jeannette shares where she and Chris are going to be focusing their business efforts and why. Including details of some big opportunities, anyone can potentially take advantage of. Jeannette provides you with 6 key questions that will help you to reflect honestly on the past year. As well as a set you can use to work out what path you should be following for 2021. KEY TAKEAWAYS It is important to pause periodically and think about how things have gone and where you are going. Identify what went well, what could have gone better, and what went wrong, and what you would do differently. Ask yourself what you have learned and achieved. Learn and use the stop, start, continue method. Determine what your options are. Then pick the ones that will take you forward and help you to achieve your goals. Make a list of what you need to do to get you there. 2020 has been a difficult year, it is important to reflect on and recognize how you felt. Think about the positives as well as the negatives, for example, the way the CoVid crisis made us appreciate each other more. Many of us have learned new skills to adapt to the CoVid situation. Businesses have been forced to innovate and pivot. The CoVid crisis led Jeannette to create a new mentoring business, take on new advisory clients, and start this podcast. 2021 is going to be all around resettling and regrouping. There is likely to be a recession and Brexit is sure to have an impact too. Home and flexible working are both set to continue. The businesses that have survived are leaner and meaner. When the time is right, they will be able to grow fast. There is a lot of pent-up demand for leisure, travel, better properties, and more leisure pursuits, all of which creates opportunities. BEST MOMENTS ‘When we have busy lives, we rarely stop to take stock of where we are.’ ‘We are so busy focusing on the next thing that we don´t actually give ourselves a bit of credit for what went well. ´ ‘When everything is plodding along quite nicely it is hard to pivot.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor, and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality, and property sectors. Ep 56Liza Fitzell MD Elegant Resorts – From 16 Year Old YTS to International Businesswoman
In this episode, Jeannette speaks to Lisa Fitzell who is an international businesswoman who has worked in the travel industry for 33 years. Lisa is the managing director of Elegant Resorts. She shares what she has learned while working in several countries and rising through the ranks with some of the best brands in travel such as Lunn Poly, TUI, STA Travel, Stella, Austravel, Diethelm and Elegant Resorts. Her and Jeannette discuss how reaching burnout and nearly dying from meningitis fundamentally changed the way Lisa approaches her life and career. Lisa grabs every opportunity. She explains how to do this without burning out, the role of mindset, mentors and never giving up on your goals. Lisa shares her thoughts on how to build a strong team, develop your future leaders and continually improving what you do. KEY TAKEAWAYS Love what you do but be careful to not let your job totally define you, so you get out of balance. Repeat clients and being recommended is the recipe for success for any business As a leader, you need to let go a bit and trust your team. You can´t do it all. Really look after your people. Investing in their wellness will pay for itself. Say yes when you are offered opportunities, you can use the skills you already have to work everything out and learn new ones. You do not have to have been to university to be able to succeed and grow. Treat every company you work for as if it is your own. Imposter syndrome is a big issue, you have to recognise it in yourself and work to eliminate it. Invest time in looking after yourself. If you don´t you will burn out and not be able to be there for your family and colleagues. Never feeling good enough can be incredibly damaging, so you need to watch out for this and be kind to yourself When things go wrong, e.g., COVID-19, look after your customers. Doing so builds loyalty and brings them back to you later. Having a good network of friends helps you in many ways. Create headspace for yourself. Take the time to switch off. Walking or yoga are good for this. Drop the guilt as a working mum and cut yourself some slack Find a morning routine that sets you up for the day. Don´t be afraid to move fast in business. Perfection does not exist, so there is no point in planning everything to the eighth degree. Ep 55Goal Setting for 2021
In this episode, Jeannette explains why it is vital to set clear goals for yourself. To have smart objectives that take you to where you need to be. She shows you how to decide what the right goals are and set things up in a way that makes sure you achieve then using the SMART objective formula. You can also ask her to share a free download that will make doing this far easier. Everyone can still set realistic goals that will carry you through periods of uncertainly, like the ones we are currently living through. Jeannette suggests some business, career, self-development, money, educational and personal objectives to get you thinking about the goals you could set. KEY TAKEAWAYS Setting goals keeps you on track, stops you from wasting time, helps you to manage stress, and to develop the right skills at the right times. Set longer-term goals, then goals for this year, and break them down into specific objectives throughout the year. Even in these uncertain times, you need to set goals. In fact, it is even more important that you do so. Make personal development and health goals. Be specific with your goals. Set measurable objectives. Make sure the goals you set stretch you but are achievable. Your goals must be relevant to you and what you want to achieve. Set time limits for achieving each goal. Be clear about your reason why. If you don´t know your vision and purpose you will lack motivation. Make sure that your goals fit in with your core values. BEST MOMENTS ‘When you get into a car, if you don´t know where you are heading, how can you possibly get to where you need to be.’ ‘Take your big purpose and break it down into very specific objectives for the year. ´ ‘Having a clarity of purpose will keep you true to yourself.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor, and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality, and property sectors. Ep 54Peter Greenwood – From Royal Navy Commander to Successful Estate Agency Owner
In this episode, Jeannette speaks to Peter Greenwood the founder and owner of Greenwood Residential estate agents. Peter shares some of the experiences he had during his 37-year Royal Navy career and how he pivoted to set up his own successful estate agency business. Peter's shift from the military into the entrepreneurial world of estate agency demonstrates how to pivot, apply transferable skills and become a successful business owner. Peter provides the inside track on the estate agency side of the property sector. He provides great insight into; His early life and starting a career in the Royal Navy (+0-12mins) setting up a business from scratch (+12-20mins) training/starting up, mention of Susie Crolla at the Guild of Letting and Management, Emma Greenwood, Liz Poole, Jay. current trends in the market (+19mins) need for access to funds/cash to progress in current market the impact Covid-19 has had on the property market (+28mins) the perspective from both the estate agency and investor side (+33-38mins) as well as his thoughts on projections for 2021. (+38-43mins) (please note this podcast was recorded on the 3rd October 2020, before the second or now the third lockdown where even being thought about never mind being made law.) However, Peter still firmly believes that the rental market will continue to strengthen throughout 2021 and the Sales market will have a strong recovery once we see the end of these lockdowns, which will only coincide with the vaccination programme that is currently in progress. From March 2021 onwards the Sales Market will pick up right from where it stopped in October 2020, so if you need to move, and are asking yourself when is the right time, well ask no more, because it's right now! So start getting your property, market ready, give it kerb appeal and declutter as best you can, make it better than when you first moved there and remember what attracted you to it in the first place. Then confirm how much of a deposit you will be able to put down and how much mortgage will you need for your move, so that before you even start looking, check your budget. Then the fun starts, identify what it is that you want to find in the next property, list the ‘nice to have, would really like to have, or must haves’ for the house and also for the area that you want to move to. Remember some key COVID lessons - try to find a new property with a quiet room or an extra room you can use as a home office, outdoor space either a private or communal garden or a nearby park, how good is the broad band speed. Do you need to be in the catchment area for a certain school? How long is your commute to work? How good is the public transport? Take advantage of the time you now have in this lockdown to do this work in advance, if you are able to, whilst still following the full COVID-19 lockdown and guidelines, stay at home, stay safe and protect the NHS. KEY TAKEAWAYS Being able to pivot and apply transferable skills to a new business venture is possible for anyone wanting to make a change. Getting your branding and image right is a vital part of building a successful business. Continuous professional development is important. Fixing issues when things do not go well is a vital part of looking after your customers properly. Even in areas where prices are high, it is still possible to find properties to do up and split into rooms and make a profit. In most cases, it is the smaller, low-cost properties that generate the best yield. Often there is good money to be made with corner plot houses, provided you can extend. Changes in how property investors are taxed, Brexit, and the general election all slowed sales. People now want extra space for work and recreation and a good broadband connection. There is still a lot of pent-up demand, people desperately want better homes. Surveyors are under-valuing properties right now. Lenders want to be sure they will get their money back. The lending criteria are now far stricter. Unemployment is going to damp down the market, but not completely. The rental market should remain strong. There are property opportunities everywhere but different strategies work in different areas. BEST MOMENTS ‘It's important to do continuous professional development’ (+15min mention of Susie Crolla at the Guild of Letting and Management.) ‘I'm seeing undervalues of 5-10%, on a properties´ (+39min) ‘The lending criteria is incredibly strict right now’ (+39min) VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series www.jeannettelinfootassociates.com Greenwood Residential website ABOUT THE GUEST Peter Greenwood enjoyed a 37-year career in the Royal Navy. Ep 53Creating Order out of Chaos
This is the 5th podcast in the series that Jeannette has put together to help everyone to stay on track despite the upheaval we are all experiencing. It is all about creating order from chaos. Jeannette walks her audience through an easy to implement 5 step process that anyone can use to ensure that they get everything done and do not end up feeling overwhelmed. KEY TAKEAWAYS Most of us end up feeling that we are trying to keep too many plates spinning. When you feel overwhelmed it is all too easy to end up chasing your tail. Keep a log to find out where your time is going. In the podcast, Jeannette shares how to do this effectively. Use the Stop – Start – Continue approach to make sure you are prioritising the right things. Tidying up your workspace can be quite cathartic. Compartmentalise your day. Aim to do the most important things when your energy levels are at the highest levels. Create the right environment, for example, turn off your phone and eliminate other distractions. Turn your new routine into a habit by sticking to it for 21 days, and really embed that habit after 30 days. Ep 51The Best Investment You Can Make is in Yourself
In this episode, Jeannette explains, why improving yourself as a person is an important investment. Her very clever bank account analogy is sure to strike a chord with you, as well as help you to come up with a sustainable self-improvement plan that will work for you. Even if you only have 10 minutes or half an hour a day available to do so. KEY TAKEAWAYS There are many ways to improve yourself as a person. Learning a new skill, educating yourself about a new subject, improving your mindset or explore an interest more– all improve who you are. Becoming healthier in mind and body is a particularly important form of self-improvement. Virtually everyone has too many demands on their time, money, and resources. Nobody can give continuously. You are not a bottomless pit. It is essential that you take the time to refuel yourself. Learning broadens the mind. Being exposed to new things is inspiring and energising, which helps with keeping your body and mind strong. Putting your own oxygen mask on first ensures that you are there to save others. You do not need to spend hours every day to make great improvements. Ten minutes can be enough. Affirmations work. Verbalising what you want to achieve speaks to your subconscious mind, which guides how you act. Use the SAVERS method to start your self-improvement journey and keep you going along that path. BEST MOMENTS ‘Investing time, energy and resources in yourself is the best investment you will ever make.’ ‘It makes absolute sense for you to invest in your personal development, it helps you grow as a person overall. ´ ‘By actually verbalising what your dreams are, what you're hoping to achieve, you're speaking to your subconscious mind.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series The Miracle Morning Book ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor, and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality, and property sectors. Ep 46Cat Jones Start Up Entrepreneur, CEO Byway - Inspired by the Iconic Brent Hoberman, Founders Factory
In this episode, Jeannette speaks with Cat Jones, an entrepreneur powerhouse, spanning travel, start-ups, media and more! Cat started off in the world of physics which is an unusual starting point for business but Cat then spent the next 10 years involved in the full ‘life cycle’ of a start-up. After this point she moved to the Founders Factory, set up by Brent Hoberman, CEO & founder of Lastminute.com, where Cat was managing director of the Media and Travel Division. Now she is the CEO of Byway, a start-up business specialising in sustainable and slow travel. Jeannette and Cat talk about start-ups, travel, sustainability and how you have to believe in something a little crazy to create something truly transformative. An insightful and inspired episode, not to be missed. KEY TAKEAWAYS Cat has always had an interest in sustainability and responsibility of business and this has been a theme throughout her career. It was after creating a tour booking site whilst travelling that Cat discovered she didn’t want to do a graduate corporate role. She wanted to be involved in the more creative world of start-ups. This is how she joined a team of 8 at Unruly. Towards the end of last year, whilst at Founders Factory, Cat was looking deeper into sustainable travel and how we can change the way we approach travel to make it more ‘mindful’ and ‘connected’. Inadvertently she had created the concept of the business she has now founded and is running as CEO! Cat got some very raised eyebrows when she said she was starting a travel business in the midst of a pandemic. But she is confident in her knowledge that on the other side of this people will want to travel and they will want to travel the way she is creating through Byway! By creating this travel business in the current climate Byway isn’t having to ‘retrofit’ anything. The level of flexibility and the systems and processes have been built around having to deal with the pandemic. Byway is all about slow adventures that don’t fly. You go through amazing places and stop off and experience so much more. It’s a layered experience that gives you more time and connection with both places and people. Cat’s aim is to make this new way of travel mainstream. She wants Byway to pioneer this new sustainable and connected way of travelling. During the pandemic people have revaluated and repositioned themselves in all areas of their lives. People have almost been forced to ‘reconnect’ with what is around them. When making a big decision Cat spends time with her husband weighing out all of the risks and assessing what can be mitigated and what she is comfortable with. This is how she deals with any ‘naysayers’ or doubt, including her own. Cat and her partner spend time ‘designing their lives’. They even have a quarterly get away to talk and make conscious decisions about them and their family. BEST MOMENTS “I have a lot of energy that I like to put into stuff that I care about doing” “What we’re offering is really authentic, a gorgeous and glorious way to travel” “You’ve got to believe something that’s a bit crazy to do something that’s disruptive and different and transformative” “Focus on the gem of an idea and then develop it out from there” VALUABLE RESOURCES Byway Travel - Experience the world by travelling through it not over it Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor, and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality, and property sectors. Ep 43Presenting, Pitching and Public Speaking with Toni Gargan – Essential Skills for Everyone
In this episode, Jeannette talks to Toni Gargan, a coach that focuses on training people to become competent speakers and to improve their presentation skills, as well as being a property investor. They discuss the skills needed to become an effective public speaker, salesperson, and presenter. Jeannette explains how she overcame her nerves and imposter syndrome to do this. They discuss how to acquire and practice those skills. As well as discussing how to adapt what you say and how you present it to better fit the audience you are speaking to. KEY TAKEAWAYS Preparation is key for any kind of public speaking. Knowing your subject gives you confidence and enables you to adapt should you have to present without your notes or need to answer awkward questions. Many people suffer from imposter syndrome, you have to recognise this and come up with a strategy to deal with it. Most people are using presentation and public speaking throughout their workweek, often without even realising that they are doing so. Be yourself, this makes it far easier for your audience to believe in you and connect with you. Use empathy. It will help you to prepare a speech or presentation that is truly relevant to your audience. You need to adapt your presentations to suit who you are speaking to. To ensure you demonstrate how you can help them as an individual or an organization. Selling is serving, you should be selling things in a way that ensures that the other person can fully understand how they will benefit when they buy from you. Most people need to work on their presentation skills. The more you do, the better you will get. BEST MOMENTS ‘Preparation is absolutely key.’ ‘you can make anything interesting in the way that you prepare it. ´ ‘It´s good not just to always be thinking about it from your own perspective.’ ‘You're always presenting, you're always selling, even with friends and other people you know.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor, and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality, and property sectors. Don´t be daunted by running a big business – it is all the same tasks, just on a far larger scale. Doing the right thing for your customer and colleagues naturally leads to success. Find a leadership style that works for you. It´s fine to be yourself. You don’t need a persona. Never be afraid to make a bold move. There is not a manual out there for everything. Sometimes you have to jump in and make it up as you go along. By asking the right questions and monitoring the situation you can adapt to any task. All kinds of personality types can make great leaders. When talking to someone ask yourself how you can help them. When you do you build a strong network. Seek out roles that fit your values and what is important in your life. When someone tells you are good enough to do something – believe them! BEST MOMENTS ‘Running a big firm is not rocket science. It´s all the same tasks, just on a bigger scale.’ ‘Do right, by the customer, do right by people, and the numbers will come.´ ‘It´s about finding the leadership style that works for you, it´s fine to be yourself.’ ‘If you focus on continually improving then it doesn´t feel as bad when you make a mistake.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor, and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality, and property sectors. Ep 41Why Having Structure in Your Day is so Important and How to do it
In this episode, Jeannette talks about why having structure in your life is important. How it can help you to get through times like the ones we are living through now. Jeannette explains how she has followed her mentor´s advice to manage her time and become far more successful and productive as a result. She shares the method she used. An approach that is flexible enough for anyone to implement and use to get rid of that stressful feeling that there are not enough hours in the day. KEY TAKEAWAYS You cannot extend time, but you can manage how you use that time. Everyone has a 24hr day. Yet some people get more done than others. Look, in detail at what you are doing with your time and ask yourself - Should you be doing it? Does it add value to your life? Be sure to take action, after your review. Use the start, stop, continue model, which Jeannette explains in the podcast, to rework how you spend your day. Don´t be afraid to delegate. Be ruthless when clearing out your diary. Make sure that you are spending time on your priorities rather than other people´s priorities. Compartmentalising your diary keeps you organised, while still providing some flexibility. Don´t forget to include time to strategise and work on your long-term goals. Create the right environment and routines to manage your time. Little things like turning off notifications while working make a huge difference. Starting your day in the right way will help throughout the rest of the day. Stick with it. Usually, it takes 21 to 30 days to turn a positive change into a long-term habit. Stop trying to manage your time - instead, manage your life. BEST MOMENTS ‘You can't really manage time because it is what it is. But you can manage your life.’ ‘Take a good hard look at how you're spending your time. Who you're spending time with and what you're spending time on.’ ‘Stick with it. It takes 21 days on average to stop an old habit and create a new habit.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES - Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series Routine = Results by Rob Moore Miracle Mornings by Hal Elrod ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor, and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality, and property sectors. Ep 40Interview with Toni Gargan – Be True to Yourself and Follow the Path That Will Make You Happy
In this episode, Jeannette interviews Toni Gargan from Owen Oliver Property. Toni is a property investor, mentor, public speaker, entrepreneur and trainer teaching others how to invest in property. They discuss how Toni and her husband juggled having two little boys to look after and two full-time jobs with starting a property business. As well as how they borrowed from other people to get started rather than following the traditional financing route. Toni is passionate about helping others through being an educator and public speaker. She explains how she overcame fear and risk to transition from her day job in HR to fulfilling her dream to help others by teaching them to become property developers. KEY TAKEAWAYS It is possible to build a huge property empire even if you do not have much money of your own, at the beginning. Being curious and becoming a lifelong learner is highly beneficial regardless of your chosen career. Fear is a good thing because it makes you stop and think, but you must not let it overwhelm and paralyze you. You need to fully understand the risk, then do what you can to mitigate them. When you have bad experiences, learn from them, and use them to spur you on. Sacrifices are an investment. It´s short term pain for long-term gain. Be true to yourself, do things your way, don´t worry about being judged by others. You need to be sure that you are striving to achieve the right goals. It's all too easy to put a lot of time and energy into something that does not bring you happiness. Approach things in a way that is congruent with your values. You gain more by helping others. Seek out and take advantage of win-win situations. BEST MOMENTS ‘I´m a massive believer in helping other people to understand and realize their potential.’ ´Many people have this massive desire to achieve things, but fear holds them back.’ ‘I see sacrifices as an investment.’ ´People are going to judge you anyway, so let them judge you for being who you are.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES - Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor, and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality, and property sectors. Ep 39Entrepreneurs Can Party - Jeannette being interviewed by Scott Stockdale
#039 BBB - Entrepreneurs Can Party Jeannette being interviewed by Scott Stockdale DESCRIPTION In this episode, Jeannette is being interviewed by Scott Stockdale from Entrepreneurs Can Party. They discuss her mentoring work. But the majority of this podcast focuses on the property development side of Jeannette´s business. Including, why she started it. As well as the path she followed to gain the knowledge she needed to make it a success. She explains what their five-year plan is and how that will be achieved. They talk about the buy to let, how to use refurbish-refinance models that Jeannette and her partner are using and how all of this is done in a hand´s off way. KEY TAKEAWAYS Property development is a good way to build long-term wealth. Certain kinds of property development can also create short-term cashflow. Educating yourself properly before starting a property business is wise. Using a mentor enables you to bounce ideas off of them and avoid taking wrong turns and making expensive mistakes. Being prepared to hire the right people to cover any skill gaps enables you to grow much faster. You need to put a lot of effort into establishing your team. Make sure you build in sufficient redundancy into your team, so things don´t collapse if someone goes sick. Re-investing what you earn into buying more properties enables you to build a stock of high-value assets surprisingly quickly. You need to be clear at the outset about what you are planning to do with each property. You do not necessarily have to deal with builders or tenants. Property can be a hand´s off business. Once you have got your processes in place things move faster. You should only use a mentor if you are ready to act. As a mentor, you need to be a good listener. If you are not you cannot understand your client and provide them with sound guidance. Understanding what you want from life, is critical, it is the first step to success. BEST MOMENTS ‘I wanted to create multiple streams of income, long term wealth, short term cash flow, and to be my own boss. Property development has been a part of that.’ ‘The best investment you can make is in yourself.´ ‘If you know where you´re heading, then it is much easier to get there. ’ ‘Believe in yourself and live your life so that you won’t have any regrets at the end of your life. ’ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series Links to Episode on Entrepreneurs Can Party: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/entrepreneurs-can-party/id1500768698 https://open.spotify.com/show/2R5JpRT1klKvcxuYXsxK8x https://overcast.fm/itunes1500768698/entrepreneurs-can-party ABOUT SCOTT STOCKDALE Scott Stockdale is an SEO executive at THG and host of Entrepreneurs Can Party: a top 10 rated podcast on which Scott chats with inspiring entrepreneurs who are showing that business can and should be fun! Ep 38Maggie Watts Hope is Contagious – An Insight into Her Bold Campaign to Raise Awareness of Pancreatic Cancer
In this episode, Jeannette speaks to Maggie Watts, who is fighting to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer and get more funding for research and treatment. She has done so with great success. To the point where people like the actress Julie Hesmondhalgh, who played Hayley Cropper in Coronation Street, Joey Barton the footballer, the DJ Stephanie Hirst and Lorraine Kelly joined her campaign. Today, thanks to her efforts and those of other campaigners this cancer attracts more funding, but there is still a lot to be done. Maggie explains how her husband and family embraced the time he had left and shares some of the many lessons she learned then. Lessons and skills that stayed with her and have continued to drive her forwards. Maggie and Jeannette also talk about how to tackle difficult conversations, how having a clear purpose, a positive mindset and never giving up means you can achieve incredible things in life. KEY TAKEAWAYS There is still not enough awareness of pancreatic cancer and research into the disease is woefully underfunded. The survival rates for pancreatic cancer are low, partly because of delays in diagnosis. GPs frequently miss pancreatic cancer, so you need to be aware of the symptoms (** see our list of symptoms below) You may have to actively ask your doctor to consider pancreatic cancer as a potential cause of your symptoms. There is a tendency for doctors not to look at your symptoms in totality to treat each one individually – don´t be afraid to remind your doctors of your full list of symptoms. Being able to challenge in a respectful yet effective way is an important skill. The medical team are the experts, but it should never stop you from doing your own research and discussing what you have found with them. Don´t be afraid to challenge if something doesn´t feel right. There are mechanisms available that you can use to force change using the political system. Twitter is a good way to gain momentum for a campaign and find influencers and celebrities who will get on board. Ideally, you need someone who has a high profile to get involved to keep the momentum going. Tenacity, a positive mindset, and pulling together as a team really does enable you to beat the odds and get the exposure your cause needs. You only fail when you stop. Keep yourself in good shape, if you don´t you will burn out and have to stop your campaign. You need to embrace life, none of us know how long we´ve got on this earth. Hope is contagious, it drives people on to find solutions and ways of coping even in seemingly impossible situations. Pancreatic cancer used to only get 1% of funding. Now, thanks to Maggie and her fellow campaigners it gets 3%. BEST MOMENTS ‘Change doesn´t happen unless people have a voice’ ‘Whatever life throws at me now, mostly it’s sortable or doable´ ´If you've got something, whatever it is that you want to achieve, figure it out as you go along and don't let people cast any doubt in your mind´ VALUABLE RESOURCES Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series ABOUT THE GUEST Maggie Watts is a Pancreatic Cancer Advocate, campaigning for more awareness and more funding of Pancreatic Cancer. For the last 10 years Maggie has campaigned for more awareness and more funding for pancreatic cancer as a result of losing her husband, Kevin to the disease and discovering that survival rates hadn't improved at all in the 40 years prior to his death. Kev's mum had also died of pancreatic cancer exactly 40 years earlier (aged 27) and nothing had changed whatsoever in all of that time. This was a shock to Maggie and also unbelievable and unacceptable that nothing had changed in all of that time - after Kev died it became a mission of hers (and also a coping mechanism for grief) to see what she could do to raise awareness. Maggie started a Government e-petition and took to social media to try and find 100,000 people to sign - to try and become eligible for a Parliamentary Debate. With the support of many around her, including some high profile media and sports personalities such as the actress Julie Hesmondhalgh, the BBC radio presenter Stephanie Hirst and footballer Joey Barton, Maggie was successful in achieving her goal and went to Parliament for the debate which was one of the most highly attended backbench debates ever. Maggie continues to tirelessly champion the cause for Pancreatic Cancer, through her Hope is Contagious Campaign, to make this world a better place and provide hope for Pancreatic Cancer sufferers and their families. Ep 37How to Find a Mentor That´s Right for You
In this episode, Jeannette talks about how to find the right mentor. Over the years, Jeannette has had several mentors. People that have guided her and provided tailored advice, support, and motivation that has made a phenomenal difference to her. Today, she is herself a mentor. So, this is a subject she knows a lot about and one that is close to her heart. Jeannette explains how to know when you are ready to seek out a mentor and shares the 6 main ways mentors help. She then goes on to take you through a 10-step process you can use to make sure you can find the right mentor for you. KEY TAKEAWAYS You need to be ready and able to really take action before you get a mentor. Mentors provide you with a safe person to discuss things with. Talking to someone else helps you to get into the right mindset. Mentors are great motivators, they provide accountability, which drives you on. Think about and establish in your mind what you want to achieve before starting your search. The chemistry between you and your mentor has to be good, so understand what kind of personality you are looking for. Use social media and other sources to check potential mentors out. Ask them if you can talk to clients they have worked with, in the past. If they say no, be cautious. Trust your gut when making your final decision. BEST MOMENTS ‘It could be informal or formal. Mentors come in all shapes and sizes. ’ ´Accountability is one of the main reasons why having a mentor is really great for you.’ ‘Do an early testing call to see if you´ve got the right chemistry with any potential mentor. ’ VALUABLE RESOURCES - Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor, and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality, and property sectors. Ep 36Pete Lonton – Seek Out and Pursue Your Passion to Achieve Your Potential
In this episode, Jeannette speaks to Pete Lonton, who is a former engineer, project manager and property investor. Today, his focus is on helping others to find their potential and become the mightiest version of themselves, in particular through his podcast Fire in the Belly Jeannette and Pete discuss how he overcame his ADHD, depression, and dyslexia to become an award winner in his industry while building up a huge property empire. Before, setting up Fire in the Belly as a way of inspiring others to succeed too. They discuss how to avoid getting trapped in a negative work cycle, as well as how to transition to working on something you feel passionate about. KEY TAKEAWAYS You need balance in your work life. If you don´t have it, you will make yourself ill, especially mentally. People who explore and go with their gut instincts tend to be passionate about what they do. Everyone has fire in their belly, something that they passionately believe in, something that motivates them. Often, when you have a weakness in one area, you excel in another because you have developed skills to compensate for your weakness. Every so often, everyone needs to pause, stand back, and make sure they are not on a hamster wheel that is taking them nowhere. Depression is a symptom, not a cause, you have to recognise how you became depressed and make the relevant changes. When you step off the hamster wheel, you end up with a fertile void that provides you with the chance to make step changes in life. Talking to others about their journeys is a great way to learn and inspire yourself to success. Everyone needs a North Star, a golden thread. A goal to focus on that pulls them forward. We all let silly things hold us back, especially things that happened in the distant past, for example, failing our exams. All of the answers are inside you, but the voice that guides us has become a faint whisper, you have to learn to block out distractions and listen to it. The changes you make do not have to be big to make a huge difference. Pursue those ideas that you can´t stop thinking about, they are usually viable ideas. BEST MOMENTS ‘We’re all souls in a meat suit’. ‘I believe everyone´s born with that fire in the belly. ‘We're all capable of so much, but yet we're leaving the handbrake on, you've got all these beliefs that hold you back, that restrict you. ‘Define your vision to find your passion. ‘Live life with no regrets’. Ep 35Love What You do & You'll Never Work a Day in Your Life
In this episode, Jeannette talks about how to reach the point where you love the work that you do. To the point where it does not feel like work at all. She shares how she is doing exactly that and how you can do the same while taking care of your family and helping others to do the same. KEY TAKEAWAYS It really is possible to love the work that you do. Most people can find a way to merge their passion with their profession. Life is short, so you don´t want to be doing things that do not bring you joy. It is beneficial for everyone to review what they have done in life then work out what they want to achieve in the future. Everyone will have good and bad days that is normal, but it is possible for more of them to be good days. Sometimes you will have to take a leap of faith to achieve your dream and work at something that you genuinely love. Seek out the company of people who uplift and inspire you. People who will actively help you to achieve your dream. Use your time wisely but be generous when you can and give to others. Learn not to procrastinate, you don´t want to waste a moment and be always working towards your dream. BEST MOMENTS ‘If you can merge your passion with your profession, that´s absolute utopia. ’ ´Spend time with people that … are going to lift you up and help you to be the best person you want to be.’ ‘Make sure you are focusing on the things that are important to you. ’ VALUABLE RESOURCES - Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality, and property sectors. Ep 34Sisterhood, Bravery & Business: Interview with Carolin-Marie Roth
In this episode, Jeannette speaks to Carolin-Marie Roth who has had an incredible career including TV presenting, teaching yoga, property, charity work and more. They talk about childhood, relationships, business ventures and what it means to be a woman in the business world. Listen in today for a unique insight into Carolin’s life journey so far, it’s a very engaging episode sprinkled with humour throughout! KEY TAKEAWAYS Carolin had a difficult childhood which made her resourceful from an early age. She found it created her to have dominant ‘survival’ skills which has been both a blessing and a curse as an adult. At 15 she moved from Germany to America to live with her uncle and her school career really turned around and built her confidence tremendously. Carolin has found the lack of sisterhood through her career disappointing. But she has raised three incredibly strong, feminist daughters and has really emphasised to them that supporting each other is essential. Carolin admits herself that she has struggled with confidence but she has always had the ‘boldness’ to create opportunities for herself. It’s her tenacity that enabled her to get her first break in the television world. Whilst Carolin enjoyed working as a presenter she never felt like it was her ‘destiny’. Carolin didn’t think she would be able to have children so when she found out she was pregnant it felt like no big loss to her to give up her presenting career. She feels incredibly blessed for all of her children. After the birth of her third child Carolin moved to London in the UK and her and her partner set up their own TV Production company. After selling the company Carolin became a Yoga Teacher, a life-long passion of hers. She has been practicing Yoga for over 40 years! Carolin and her husband set up a charity called My Life Films which has won several awards. The basis of the charity is that they produce films for people living with dementia. These films are for free and can change the life of the family and the person living with dementia. Everything Carolin does involves creativity, passion and love. She thinks this is partly because of how she views the world. She finds structure difficult but when it comes to ‘thinking outside the box’ she truly blossoms. Ep 33Corporate vs Entrepreneurial
In this episode, Jeannette talks about the differences between working in corporate and entrepreneurial environments. Jeannette has 25 years in the corporate world where she was MD of the Emerging Markets for TUI and CEO of the Travel Division for Saga. Today Jeannette has a portfolio of her own businesses including property investing, board advisory, mentoring as well as sitting on the Board of the Founders Factory. Providing her with the experience to be able to successfully combine the best of the corporate and entrepreneurial way of conducting business. Jeannette also speaks about her recent work with The Founder´s Factory. An organization that brings together people from the corporate and SME worlds. To network, share knowledge, support each other, and develop new hybrid ways of doing business. KEY TAKEAWAYS There are pros and cons of working in both the corporate and entrepreneurial worlds. Typically, when you work in the corporate world you impact a bigger pool of people and customers. In large corporations, the opportunities you have tend to be more diverse. Working corporately exposes you to more scrutiny, in the form of regulatory bodies, shareholders, and layers of management. Bureaucracy and a stiff hierarchy can stifle creativity and limit agility, something the corporate world suffers from. SMEs have a flatter organizational structure, which encourages innovation and creativity. Many SMEs suffer from a lack of robust processes and often financial discipline is not as stringent as it is in the corporate world. Both types of businesses can learn from each other and improve the way that they each work. BEST MOMENTS ‘(Larger corporations) often have quite diverse business models within them. ’ ‘Whether it's big business corporations or entrepreneurial SMEs, neither is necessarily better or worse, they're just different. ’ ´I think a more interesting opportunity really is to bring the best of both together into whichever world you are in.’ VALUABLE RESOURCES - Brave, Bold, Brilliant podcast series ABOUT THE HOST Jeannette Linfoot is a highly regarded senior executive, property investor, board advisor, and business mentor with over 25 years of global professional business experience across the travel, leisure, hospitality, and property sectors. In this episode, Jeannette speaks to Russell Amerasekera about the winding journey that led to him becoming an impact, presentation, career and life coach, personal style advisor and interior space designer.. Russell and Jeannette talk about Russell’s 17 years in corporate through to his time co-presenting Wish You Were Here with Judith Charmers and then BBC Holiday programme, followed by the set up and sale of his own company. He explains how the role of understanding yourself and being true to your values plays in becoming successful and being able to enjoy life. As well as how he put this advice into action in his own life and what happened when he did. KEY TAKEAWAYS If you’re not happy then really dig deep and ask yourself who you really want to be Human beings are naturally uncomfortable with difference and reactions can range from appreciation to fear. Standing out from the crowd comes with ramifications, but it is also important to be yourself. Our biggest fear is fear of rejection therefore as adults we adapt and compromise but when you lose sight of yourself and your authenticity that’s when life can get very challenging. Pushing yourself into a mold stifles creativity and restricts your ability to explore what you are capable of. Corporate world can often make the simple, complex and creates corporate bullshit Compromise but don’t compromise your true self, integrity and values You can’t be good for other people unless you are good for yourself Being honest about who you are builds trust. Take the time to ask yourself what you value, what feeds your soul, what makes you happy Three things that shape Russell’s life – love, potential, what he can do for others Helping others is also nurturing for you. Learning to use your intuition as well as your logic brings many benefits. Coaching is about listening, understanding people, and triggering them to act, not telling them what to do. Women in business often struggle with authenticity at the same time as having impact Personal branding is about going back to your essence not putting up a front. Perception is important, you need to understand how you are perceived. Non-verbal signals are still the way we predominantly communicate as human beings. You should dress the way you feel and how you want to be perceived. It’s the myriad little things we do every day that can change the way the world works. Don´t spend too much time worrying about what others think of you, know what you want and live your truth. BEST MOMENTS ‘When we see something that we don't relate to, we often have a reaction to it that can range from appreciation to fear.’ ´Yes, compromise, but don't compromise your integrity and your values. .’ ´People go, Oh, I must portray that kind of image. Fundamentally, it doesn't work. Ep 31Top 10 Tips for Networking and How to Avoid Zoom Gloom
In this episode, Jeannette talks about how to step up your networking game. Something that is certainly possible despite lockdown. As you will see, now is actually the ideal time to step up your networking efforts. Jeanette provides you with a simple, step-by-step, fairly fast, and easy way to do exactly that. Video conferencing can be exhausting if you do it too much. Jeannette explains how to balance things out to avoid suffering from Zoom gloom. KEY TAKEAWAYS Review who you have been in touch with over the past few months and who you haven´t, to create a hit list. Make another list of people you really need to be communicating with. Jeannette explains how to ensure you do not miss anyone important. With more people working from home at the moment, it is actually easier to get hold of people. Get out of the habit of only contacting people when you want something. Get in touch and offer to do something for them, instead. Now is a good time to review your social media connections and send invites to anyone you are not yet connected to. If you are struggling to find an excuse to get in touch with someone, use some of the suggestions Jeanette shares in her podcast to create a legitimate reason to do so. We all like human contact and crave it. The CoVid crisis has created a unique opportunity for you to network more, so why not seize it. BEST MOMENTS ‘Ask yourself who you should really be communicating with on a more regular basis.’ ‘A lot of people are still working from home, right now, so you've kind of got a captive audience, it is much easier to catch people.’ ‘Make sure that you are varying up your communication channels.
