The Scho Show Episode 135: Looking at the bright side

Normally after a loss, The Scho Show shifts into sadness mode. The episodes are titled "Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness" episodes, we play sad music, and Mark Schofield gets in his feelings for about thirty minutes or so. This is not a sad episode. Because what we saw tonight was a football team that was fun to watch, was figuring out its identity over the course of sixty minutes in the Pacific Northwest, and had one final shot at a win in a game that seemed out of reach. A final shot at a win in a game where they had gotten down by two scores on two different occasions, only to fight back. Are there concerns? Yes. Is this team perfect? No. Are the concerns fixable? Maybe? But this was fun to watch. So we are looking at the bright side tonight. Learn more about your ad choices. The Scho Show Episode 134: Film...review?

The Scho Show is back for the 134th installment! In this show we revisit the idea of defensive versatility using insight from head coach Bill Behichick. Then, it's to the tape, or...the broadcast...or whatever. We dive into Kyle Dugger and how the Patriots used him in his first NFL game. Reviews? Mixed in a sense. Better still was what we saw from second-year player Joejuan Williams. New England has needed a tight end eraser for years...perhaps they finally have one. Then in the second half of the show, we're on to Seattle. We know about Russell Wilson. That is where we should focus on Sunday night, because how the Patriots defend him - and how successful they are at it - might give us a roadmap for the entire season. Plus, Jamal Adams. Pats Pulpit Podcast Ep. 197: Patriots beat the Dolphins in Cam Newton's debut!

The New England Patriots moved to 1-0 in Cam Newton's first game in a Patriots uniform. Newton was efficient and effective, despite an obvious lack of production from his receivers- and it was up to the ground game to move the offense down the field. On the other side of the ball, the defense picked up where they left off last season with another excellent performance, despite an array of new faces in key roles. Newcomer Adrian Phillips had a great debut, too, as the defense forced three turnovers. Learn more about your ad choices. The Scho Show Episode 129: Roster Projections 1.0

The Scho Show is back with a first crack at predicting the final New England Patriots' 53-man roster. There are difficult decisions facing this coaching staff on both sides of the football and at many positions groups, and Mark Schofield does his best to try and sort those out. On offense, while the question of starting quarterback might be settled, how many players they keep each position around Cam Newton - including within the QB room - is unsettled. Tough decisions exist at running back, wide receiver and along the offensive line. Defensively, the strength remains in the secondary, where Bill Belichick likely keeps as many cornerbacks and safeties as he can. EDGE/OLB might be a quiet position of strength, at least in the numbers. Then yes, there is a kicker decision to make. Learn more about your ad choices. Pats Pulpit Podcast Ep. 195: Which players are winning the starting jobs two weeks into Patriots camp?

The New England Patriots entered training camp with a ton of question marks. On offense, the only certainty was with wide receiver Julian Edelman, running back James White, and offensive linemen Isaiah Wynn, Joe Thuney, and Shaq Mason (even David Andrews was a question mark). On defense, the entire front seven was re-shuffled due to departures in free agency and linebacker Dont'a Hightower opting out for the season. So where do the Patriots stand two weeks into camp? Pats Pulpit Podcast Ep. 193: How canceling college football will affect the NFL, and Patriots reinforcements!

College football conferences are canceling their football seasons, which will have lasting implications for the NFL. What does that mean for a team like the Patriots that need a quarterback next year? And then the Patriots signed a handful of familiar faces to replace the players that opted out of the season, and added two other veterans that played in similar schemes- running back Lamar Miller, who played under former Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien with the Texans, and cornerback Michael Jackson Sr., who played under former Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia with the Lions. Pats Pulpit Podcast Ep. 192: Training camp is here and players are opting out!

The New England Patriots are open for camp and a lot of familiar faces have opted out of the 2020 season. Linebacker Dont'a Hightower and safety Patrick Chung will not be the defensive linchpins we have come to expect for nearly the past decade. Presumptive offensive starters right tackle Marcus Cannon and tight end Matt LaCosse will also not be playing, nor will projected role players running back Brandon Bolden and fullback Dan Vitale. Bubble players wide receiver Marqise Lee and offensive lineman Najee Toran have also opted out, bringing the number of players not suiting up to a league-high eight. So what are the Patriots going to do? Who benefits the most from these opt-outs and the stilted offseason schedule? Which players will step up in the place of these veterans? Mark Schofield is back on the microphone with an Emergency Edition of The Scho Show. Under the agreement reached between the NFL and the NFLPA regarding a return to the field, NFL players have until August 3rd to choose to opt out of the season ahead. Some big names have already taken that option, including a number of New England Patriots. Dont'a Hightower, the stalwart linebacker, is the biggest name so far. Then, Quality Time! Rudy Reyes of the Rude Dog Show joined Mark to chat about the season ahead. Pats Pulpit Podcast Ep. 191: Can Cam Newton lead the Patriots to success in a bizarre season?

It's an extremely unfair request to ask the newest member of the New England Patriots to be the answer to all of the team's questions- but here we are. Can Cam Newton, a former NFL MVP, bring the team back to the Super Bowl? Can he do it with an extremely atypical offseason due to a global pandemic? Can he be the Patriots starting quarterback beyond 2020? Or will Jarrett Stidham be able to stave off the oncoming challenger and be the starting quarterback that fans were expecting for much of the offseason? Will Stidham's 2019 season in the offense give him an advantage over Newton? Or will Brian Hoyer, who lost his roster spot to Stidham last season, be able to lean upon his veteran experience and years of knowledge with the Patriots playbook and win the starting job by being the only quarterback that knows the offense? Players report to camp next week and we'll start getting our answers. But which quarterback do you think will win the starting job? Learn more about your ad choices.
