The Scho Show Episode 95: Stern and Shane
On the 95th installment of The Scho Show we have a tremendous pairing: Stern and Shane. In the first half of the show, Mark Schofield shares his takeaways from Tom Brady's big interview with Howard Stern. Thoughts on the Brady vs. Belichick question, how Brady viewed his time in New England, and whether we all knew this was the final ride. In the second half of the show, Shane Alexander comes out of retirement to talk about the draft. While a Green Bay Packers fan and a huge Alabama football supporter, Shane has a bit of a secret: His love for what Brady and Belichick built in New England. He shares his thoughts on the end of the Brady Era, his view of Jarrett Stidham, and some of the Alabama players in the draft, including one that just seems like a Belichick pick and a surprising choice in the "Ruggs versus Jeudy" debate. The Scho Show Episode 93: Wide Receivers and Tight Ends. Oh my!
The latest installment of The Scho Show continues our positional dives into the 2020 NFL Draft Class. In this episode we look at the tight ends and the wide receivers, two vastly different position groups in this year's crop of prospects. First up are the wide receivers. In what could be a legendary class of players, Mark dives into his top 11 prospects at the position. There are surely some surprises, such as Tyler Johnson, Tee Higgins and how high Mark values Justin Jefferson. Mark dives deeper into that by referencing a recent piece for Touchdown Wire that highlights how Jefferson was used in 2018. Then, the tight ends. While the WR class is great, the TE class is...well it's not. But there are certainly intriguing options in this group, such as Cole Kmet and Adam Trautman. Learn more about your ad choices. The Scho Show Episode 93: Mock Draft Monday 10.0
The 93rd episode of The Scho Show is another Mock Draft Monday installment. With the draft fast approaching it is time to kick things into high gear around here, so this will be the first of three shows this week. As usual, the show starts with a mock from yours truly. With big boards starting to come into focus how could the draft look if the New England Patriots stay pat and make all 12 selections? Well, as we have found on previous shows, the talent that they would miss out on waiting out the second round might not be worth the wait. In the second half of the show, listener mocks! Remember to submit yours either via e-mail mark (dot) schofield at insidethepylon (dot) com, or via Twitter @MarkSchofield where the DMs are always open, or better yet via The Scho Show Slack Channel, where you can be part of the action, and part of the listener mock that will air right before the draft. #StayTuned Learn more about your ad choices. They also welcome back Detroit Red Wings prospect, friend of the show, and die hard Tom Brady fan, Jack Adams to the show. The Scho Show Episode 92: Quarterback Day!
The 92nd installment of The Scho Show is a big one. It is Quarterback Day! The first half of the show breaks down the top 11 passers in this draft class, at least according to rankings from our sometimes idiotic host. Mark Schofield has comps and thoughts on each of the top 11 quarterbacks, including a few surprising names at the end of the list. In the second half of the show, Mark takes some notes form Bill Belichick himself and applies them to this class, creating what he thinks the New England Patriots' board looks like at the quarterback position. Shocker, the two lists are not the same. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Learn more about your ad choices. The Scho Show Episode 91: Mock Draft Monday 9.0
If it's Monday, it is another Mock Draft Monday installment of The Scho Show. Last week we explored a trade-free, post-free agency mock. How could the board fall if the New England Patriots just addressed their picks, with no trades. This week we explore the trade-down scenario once more. What happens when we ship pick #23 and pick #172 to the Indianapolis Colts for picks #34 and #75. Well, something strange happens: A QB falls into our lap. Where does the board go from there? Plus, your mocks! As always you can submit yours to be read on the show either via e-mail mark (dot) schofield @ insidethepylon (dot) com, or via the Scho Show Slack Channel, or via the Twitter machine @marschofield, where you can DM them (DMs always open) or tweet them using the #SchoShowMock hashtag. The Scho Show Episode 90: Power Rankings and Hope
In the 90th installment of The Scho Show, we open with some Power Rankings. Look, nobody likes them, they just make people ragey, but with free agency rolling on it is a good time to take stock of what teams have done. What organizations are trending up, and what organizations are trending down? And where do the New England Patriots fall on that list? In the second half of the show, we talk some Jarrett Stidham, and hope. It is a powerful emotion that the NFL packages well, and Patriots fans can have some as we think about life in a post-TB12 world. Learn more about your ad choices. The Scho Show Episode 89: Mock Draft Monday 8.0
It is time for the eighth installment of Mock Draft Monday from The Scho Show. Obviously this mock comes at a different time and in a different world, with Tom Brady no longer a member of the New England Patriots. Given the player movement to date, including Brady, Kyle Van Noy, Jamie Collins, Ted Karras, Elandon Roberts and Duron Harmon leaving town, what could the Patriots look to accomplish with their 12 picks in the 2020 NFL Draft? We try to answer that question, running through a no-trades mock on Fanspeak using the most recent board from Matt Miller. Then in the second half of the show, listener mocks! Pats Pulpit Podcast Ep. 187: BREAKING - Tom Brady leaves the Patriots!
It seems like Tom Brady leaving the New England Patriots is the only story that can be discussed at this point in time, and for good reason. He was a cornerstone of the best dynasty in North American sports and he will no longer be in a Patriots uniform. There are many questions about where he'll go and what the Patriots will do to replace him. Those will be answered in due time. There are also many other moving pieces with free agency. The Patriots retained both Devin McCourty and Jason McCourty. They franchise tagged Joe Thuney. They extended Matthew Slater. Additionally, Mark dives into a recent piece he wrote for USA Today/Touchdown Wire, breaking down some risky free agents in this group. In the first half of Episode 81 of The Scho Show, Mark Schofield takes to the home podium and opens the show with "Winners and Workers" at QB, TE and WR. Winners include Anthony Gordon, Jalen Hurts and Justin Herbert at the quarterback position. From the tight ends, Adam Trautman and Cole Kmet helped themselves, Mitchell Wilcox took a ball to the dome, and Albert O earns an Incomplete despite his blazing 4.49 40-yard dash. The Scho Show Episode 80: Combine Day Two
Day Two of the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine is winding down but the action is heating up. With players starting testing on Wednesday (wide receiver bench press time!) some of the true meat of the week is getting underway. Today offensive linemen took to the podium, and in this episode we will hear from three of them. First up is Ben Bartch from St. John's in Minnesota. The Division III prospect made a name for himself down in Mobile during Senior Bowl week, and he is looking to keep that momentum out in Indianapolis. Come for the insight, stay for the weight gain shake recipe. Next is Lloyd Cushenberry from LSU. The interior offensive lineman spoke at length about what it means to be a center, and what that LSU offense accomplished together. Finally the show concludes with the podium session from Cesar Ruiz. The Michigan center shared lessons about leadership and loss, and his remarks are a must-listen. Something tells me the New England Patriots - who have met with him - are going to like this young man. Learn more about your ad choices. The Scho Show Episode 79: Combine Day 1
The first day of the 2020 NFL Combine is in the books. The week kicked off with quarterbacks, tight ends and wide receivers taking to the...podium. In the first half of the show we hear from three different tight ends on New England's radar. First up is Stephen Sullivan, the LSU tight end who could find a home with the Patriots late on Day Three. Then Purdue's Brycen Hopkins, a tight end in the move mold who could be a matchup type of player. Finally, Albert Okwuegbunam from Missouri. Albert O spoke about the tight ends that he studied on film, and one is a name you will recognize. In the second half of the show it is time for the quarterbacks. Sure, the talk out in Indianapolis was Joe Burrow and Tua Tagovailoa, but Mark Schofield spent some quality time with two Day Three prospects, Cole McDonald and Anthony Gordon. The Scho Show Episode 78: Mock Draft Monday 4.0
Mock draft simulations are all about testing out various theories. In Mock Draft Monday 4.0, the hypothesis is this: If value is to be found in picks 40-100 of this draft, how can the New England Patriots go about achieving that goal. In the first half of this episode, Mark Schofield does exactly that, pulling off two trades to acquire a pick in the second round, and an additional pick in the third round. What he does with those picks, however, might have been underwhelming, given what comes in the second half of the show. As we do on each Mock Draft Monday, the listener mocks take up the second half of the show. This week, it is pretty clear: The listeners did a better job at hunting value than Mark did. The Scho Show 77: Combine Madness
The Scouting Combine. The Underwear Olympics. Whatever you call them, the next big stop of the 2020 NFL Draft season is next week when the NFL world descends upon Indianapolis. In the 77th installment of The Scho Show, Mark Schofield has a preview of the quarterbacks that will be in attendence, highlighting what is the most important location for each quarterback during their time in Indy. For some, like Joe Burrow, it might be the podium during the media portion. For others, like Jake Fromm, it might be a whiteboard in a hotel suite. The most important aspects of the combine are those that take place behind closed doors: The medical examinations as well as the meetings with team officials. The Scho Show Episode 73: A QB Scenario and More QB Takes
For the past few weeks Mark Schofield has had a growing thought in his mind: Could we see not one, not two, not three, not four but perhaps five quarterbacks picked in the top 15 of this year's draft? With Jordan Love and Justin Herbert coming off solid Senior Bowl weeks, and Jacob Eason gathering some attention, there is that chance. If so, what could that mean for New England at 23? In the second half of the show, Mark then dives deeper into Eason, and the question that he is wrestling with as he continues his evaluation of the Washington passer. A little later, Mark has some drive-by thoughts on Jake Fromm as well. Learn more about your ad choices. The Scho Show Episode 72: Mock Draft Monday 1.0
Yes yes there was a football game played last night, but here at The Scho Show we are focused on getting the New England Patriots to Super Bowl 55, and that begins with the first Mock Draft Monday. In this installment Mark Schofield fires up the mock draft machine over at The Draft Network and, using their predictive board, walks through a potential seven-round mock draft. In the second half of the show the listeners are the stars, as Mark highlights just a handful of the mock drafts submitted by listeners over the past few days. Remember, as always you can be a part of Mock Draft Monday 2.0 by sending over a mock draft of your own. Of course, perhaps no show over the next few weeks would be complete without Brady Watch 2020. Mark addresses the Las Vegas Raiders rumors, as well as some other stories out of Miami. Learn more about your ad choices.
