585 || how to take stock of your life

E

The excerpt* I shared by Sandra Wyllie: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/take-inventory-your-life-sandra-wyllie*It's never too late to take stock of whatyou have and what you want, what you want to keep and what youwant to let go.It's never too late to cut those stringsthat bind you, tie you up or confine you. It's really a healthy thing to dotaking inventory of your life, rearranging itso you know what to keep and what to let go.Every now and then you have some cleaningup to do before a mess starts building up.Then it can feel overwhelming. And it's hard to even make a start. But even if your pile is ten feet high if youmake that start you will have one less pieceof junk lying on the top!TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastSEE MY FACE + OTHER CONTENT: www.youtube.com/juliemericaGET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR DAILY(ish) QUOTES: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcast luh you. and don't forget to drink your damn water.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/make-your-damn-bed. 584 || it's inventory tiiiime

E

regularly taking inventory can ensure you're heading in the right direction. I’ve recently been taking inventory on the things that bring be joy + the things that I don’t really feel have a long term function in my life. I like to use resets like this to objectively look at my space + take inventory of what is serving it. What is serving me. What can be put away carefully for a future me and what can be thoughtfully gifted or donated to someone who could be served better by it. TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastSEE MY FACE + OTHER CONTENT: www.youtube.com/juliemericaGET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR DAILY(ish) QUOTES: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcast luh you. and don't forget to drink your damn water.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/make-your-damn-bed. 583 || self regulation (+ the impact on everyone else)

E

When we practice self-regulation, we get better at avoiding meeting chaos where it is. By stepping up, we show others the way to step up behind us, if they see that path as a worthy one. L.R. Knost’s said, “When little people are overwhelmed by big emotions, it’s our job to share our calm, not join their chaos.”  I don't think this just pertains to littles, I think it pertains to everyone. i thiiiiink that self control refers to our ability to restrain yourself or consciously act upon impulses as opposed to self regulation referring to our ability to monitor and adjust accordingly. self regulation is more flexible + accommodating + broad; self control is more impulsive + narrowly focused. but who the hell knows?resources: https://www.verywellhealth.com/self-regulation-5225245https://www.mffy.com/articles/self-regulation-vs-self-control-whats-the-differenceTUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastSEE MY FACE + OTHER CONTENT: www.youtube.com/juliemericaGET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR DAILY(ish) QUOTES: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcast luh you. and don't forget to drink your damn water.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/make-your-damn-bed. Check in with your motivation - is it more for the content or the creation? is it more for the process or the product? because you want to produce a thing or is it because you enjoy producing a thing? TW: there is mention of emotional abuse throughout this episode.the main goal of manipulation is a sense of CONTROL. Make sure you're comfortable enough in your own skin (and head) to make your own decisions. Common tactics to make you doubt yourself include but is not limited to: projection, dismissing, minimizing, triangulation, gaslighting, general control, guilt tripping, generalizations, love bombing, name calling, infantalizing, threatening, passive aggressive behaviors, etc. The amazing article I used as the main resource for this episode: https://www.choosingtherapy.com/manipulation-tactics/ TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastSEE MY FACE + OTHER CONTENT: www.youtube.com/juliemericaGET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR DAILY(ish) QUOTES: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcast luh you. and don't forget to drink your damn water.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/make-your-damn-bed. 575 || sneaky manipulations

E

TW: there is mention of emotional abuse throughout this episode. “The first sign to look out for is if you feel confused. You will rarely–if ever–be confused by someone who has nothing but pure, good, loving intentions with you. The second is if you feel hesitant or fearful to either address your confusion or speak your feelings openly. If you can’t ask a question or express your needs without it becoming an argument, that’s a red flag. When someone is defensive (turns the tables, shifts blame, over-explains), it can be a sign that they are feeling ‘caught.'” – Alexandra Rickeman, LCMFTThe amazing article I sourced for this one: https://www.choosingtherapy.com/manipulation-tactics/ TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastSEE MY FACE + OTHER CONTENT: www.youtube.com/juliemericaGET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR DAILY(ish) QUOTES: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcast luh you. and don't forget to drink your damn water.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/make-your-damn-bed. The Technique: It may help to think of our mental health like our own personal garden.Everyone's foundations, needs, goals, and process will be unique + nuanced. Adaptability + balance is a big part in sustaining a flourishing garden. We can (+ will want to) apply general tips + tricks but what we need to be successful will be hyper specific to our personal situation. 560 || mental health technique

E

Mental health is our emotional, psychological, + social well-being (as well as our past experiences + heredity) all have an impact on how we think, feel, + act. These factors combine + affect the quality of our mental health, which influences how we deal with stress, interact with others, + make decisions. Generally, if our mental health sucks, so can our outlook, which can make us feel like our whole lives suck, too. Luckily, if we are tactful, patient, and honest with ourselves + others - with time, intentionality, dedication, consistency, (+ a lil support) you can improve your mental health, thus improving your quality of life. Give yourself adequate time to process the process. When life gets a little too: 'go, go, go!' I have to schedule in processing time to sit + think about my day so I don't get bogged down with experience. I find the more I just push + power through any experiences or feelings (big or small), the less comfortable I feel in my body. My brain feels stressed + it takes a while to decompress at night, but when I am intentional with my processing time, I find myself far less stressed in general.TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastSEE MY FACE + OTHER CONTENT: www.youtube.com/juliemericaGET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR DAILY(ish) QUOTES: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/make-your-damn-bed. 558 || list + release technique

E

When you fall the slightest bit behind, do you feel overwhelmed by all the shit you're not doing? If so, you're probably like me + instead of doing the thing you're freaking out about not doing, you spend all that time freaking out about the freak out, instead. I've begun to embrace my "it's on the list, it'll get done" energy by intentionally utilizing the list but never overthinking the list. The list should be a way to let go until you're ready to pick it back up. The key is to remember why you started the list, which was to reduce stress. Use the list to ease all the things you've not done, but not be an additional stressor to remind you of all the things you've not done. That said, like anything else, there's power in nuance + balance, so don't get too caught up in toxic positivity, but it may help to think about when you do get distracted - throughout the day - even if it’s good thoughts or positive distractions, it can easily interrupt our flow. TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastSEE MY FACE + OTHER CONTENT: www.youtube.com/juliemericaGET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR DAILY(ish) QUOTES: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcast luh you. and don't forget to drink your damn water. Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/make-your-damn-bed. 547 || how to enjoy regret || fan favorite

Taking a summah break so re-releasing the fan favorites and most shared. This is day 234 - all about reframing regret. You can’t change the past - but you can learn from it. Don’t be afraid to sit in your regret for a moment, as long as you’re comfortable recognizing it as a signal of strength, too. You wouldn’t be the person you are today, unless you were bold enough to make the mistakes you made yesterday. Keep being brave enough to make mistakes and feel the regret you need to feel to know you’re becoming a better person every single day. It takes a brave person to admit when they fuck up. We all fuck up. Don’t be ashamed of the fuck ups of the past - be proud of the improvements of your present. Taking a brief summer break and releasing the fan faves. Today I am featuring the most-shared episode - so hopefully it resonates again for ya. DAY 271 I generally advise we steer clear of obsessing over problems and people. The only thing you should obsess over is your own wellbeing. Feel free to get caught up in a new hobby or joy, but when day in and day out your thinking is always coming back to the things that aren’t within your control - like ‘why didn’t she text me back?’ Or ‘what if I never make as much money as them’ you’ll miss out on a lot of time and energy that you could have been worrying about yourself or other things that are actually within your control and have the potential to solve the problems you’re hell bent on rehearsing in the first place. 545 || be an anomie

E

Regardless of how we cut it - we live in a society that is constantly bombarding us with ideals and ways to think, live, abide by, - but when we let society dictate how we’re “supposed” to carry ourselves, how we’re supposed to live, breathe, be, do, go, do, act, be - And as humans go - conformity makes sense, it allows us security - a sense of community, the safety of acceptance + being part of a group that can look out for each other and protect each other. It’s a part of our basic survival. Webster dictionary presents two interpretations for "conformity," the simple definition, “behavior that is the same as the behavior of most other people in a society, group,” and the full definition “action in accordance with some specified standard or authority.” Therefore, breaking from conformity entirely seems utterly impossible. Though nonconformist acts can be from dressing a certain way to becoming an activist against a customary practice. The least we can do is try to break away from social standards that are holding us back. 544 || sober curious || downsides

E

Sober curious movement can have downsides, it can blur the lines and downplay the red flags of alcohol use disorder. Here are some common red flags to watch out for: You feel as if you need to cut back on drinkingYou can’t stop thinking about drinking/you’re preoccupied with alcohol cravingsYou can’t stop drinkingIf you do stop drinking, the effects of not drinking are worse than the side effects of alcohol (nausea, shaking, sweating)You have to drink more and more alcohol over time to get the same effect (aka, you keep building a higher tolerance)You continue to drink despite knowing it’s affecting your healthYou spend a lot of time buying alcohol, getting drunk, or recovering from the effects of alcoholDrinking makes you neglect your responsibilities (going to work, caring for your children)You drink even when it’s physically dangerous (driving, using heavy machinery)Others have objected to your drinking habitsresources: https://sobercuriousmovement.org/https://www.psycom.net/addiction-substance-abuse/sober-curiousTUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastSEE MY FACE + OTHER CONTENT: www.youtube.com/juliemericaGET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR DAILY(ish) QUOTES: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcast luh you. and don't forget to drink your damn water.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/make-your-damn-bed. You're not broken, you just need a little break. The reason theres not a one size fits all fix to depression, suicidal ideation, etc is because you are unique and your experiences are unique, so we have to approach our own treatment + management as a recipe/guidebook that can be adaptable + reasonable to bridge from your current state.
