Show Notes

Sympathy is recognizing + understanding someone else’s situation. Empathy is sharing in it. Sympathy typically focuses more on my personal experience or my own instinctual reaction to your situation, whereas empathy is more based on me feeling into the situation and being there with you, in that experience. To practice healthy empathy, we must be willing to get vulnerable with our feelings without centering ourself in the experience.
