563 || mental health gardening days
Edifferent days will call for different things, especially when it comes to what your garden needs to thrive. even if it feels like most days are just spent "waiting" for your harvest to sprout up + show ya something. that said, if you can find some joy in the process, the weeding, the tending, and the nourishing - you crack the code to loving the garden through loving the gardening. 562 || mental health garden || what to expect
ENot every day will be harvest day but not every day has to be a fertilizer day, either. Most days will involve some nourishment + hydration (normal tending) but most days will feel like a whole lot of waiting. Learn to love the wait. Learn to embrace the down time. Learn to lean into the faith that your foundations + experience are working below the surface of the soil to provide you with whatever you may need, when it's ready. 561 || the mental health garden
EThe Technique: It may help to think of our mental health like our own personal garden.Everyone's foundations, needs, goals, and process will be unique + nuanced. Adaptability + balance is a big part in sustaining a flourishing garden. We can (+ will want to) apply general tips + tricks but what we need to be successful will be hyper specific to our personal situation. When we plant seeds, we must plant them firmly + confidently then get comfortable waiting. Never dig 'em up too early, just to check Trust your prep work was enough to set you up for success.TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastSEE MY FACE + OTHER CONTENT: www.youtube.com/juliemericaGET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR DAILY(ish) QUOTES: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcast luh you. and don't forget to drink your damn water.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/make-your-damn-bed. 560 || mental health technique
EMental health is our emotional, psychological, + social well-being (as well as our past experiences + heredity) all have an impact on how we think, feel, + act. These factors combine + affect the quality of our mental health, which influences how we deal with stress, interact with others, + make decisions. Generally, if our mental health sucks, so can our outlook, which can make us feel like our whole lives suck, too. Luckily, if we are tactful, patient, and honest with ourselves + others - with time, intentionality, dedication, consistency, (+ a lil support) you can improve your mental health, thus improving your quality of life. 559 || process processing time
EGive yourself adequate time to process the process. When life gets a little too: 'go, go, go!' I have to schedule in processing time to sit + think about my day so I don't get bogged down with experience. I find the more I just push + power through any experiences or feelings (big or small), the less comfortable I feel in my body. My brain feels stressed + it takes a while to decompress at night, but when I am intentional with my processing time, I find myself far less stressed in general.TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastSEE MY FACE + OTHER CONTENT: www.youtube.com/juliemericaGET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR DAILY(ish) QUOTES: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/make-your-damn-bed. 558 || list + release technique
EWhen you fall the slightest bit behind, do you feel overwhelmed by all the shit you're not doing? If so, you're probably like me + instead of doing the thing you're freaking out about not doing, you spend all that time freaking out about the freak out, instead. I've begun to embrace my "it's on the list, it'll get done" energy by intentionally utilizing the list but never overthinking the list. The list should be a way to let go until you're ready to pick it back up. The key is to remember why you started the list, which was to reduce stress. Use the list to ease all the things you've not done, but not be an additional stressor to remind you of all the things you've not done. 554 || shift your language, shift your life || fan favorite
ESummer break is coming to an end for me so I wanted so share one of my favorite tips again. This one is from day 267: Change your language to improve your mindset. YOU are not fat. You have fat. YOU are not depressed. You have depression. YOU are not insecure. You feel insecure. You are far more than the identities you have created for yourself. And you need to change your language to reflect that. Shift your mindset through shifting your language. 553 || how reasoning shapes reality || fan favorite
Ewe are always searching for evidence to confirm the way we think/feel/believe. insecurities become self-fulfilling if we don't take the time + conscious effort required to improve your mental health in the long run. reassure yourself + deny unhelpful/untruthful thoughts that pop up to convince your thoughts become beliefs, beliefs become what you search for, and what you search for becomes your reality. what if they care? what if I am worthy of love? what if it all works out?change the negative thought patterns into more productive ones, so you can improve your outlook + coinciding reality as a result. EFrom day 269, Glimmers are incredibly welcomed shifts from the standard, anxious thoughts that often overtake our day. That said, like anything else, there's power in nuance + balance, so don't get too caught up in toxic positivity, but it may help to think about when you do get distracted - throughout the day - even if it’s good thoughts or positive distractions, it can easily interrupt our flow. 547 || how to enjoy regret || fan favorite
Taking a summah break so re-releasing the fan favorites and most shared. This is day 234 - all about reframing regret. You can’t change the past - but you can learn from it. Don’t be afraid to sit in your regret for a moment, as long as you’re comfortable recognizing it as a signal of strength, too. You wouldn’t be the person you are today, unless you were bold enough to make the mistakes you made yesterday. Keep being brave enough to make mistakes and feel the regret you need to feel to know you’re becoming a better person every single day. It takes a brave person to admit when they fuck up. We all fuck up. Don’t be ashamed of the fuck ups of the past - be proud of the improvements of your present. 546 || controlling fear || fan favorite
ETaking a brief summer break and releasing the fan faves. Today I am featuring the most-shared episode - so hopefully it resonates again for ya. DAY 271 I generally advise we steer clear of obsessing over problems and people. The only thing you should obsess over is your own wellbeing. Feel free to get caught up in a new hobby or joy, but when day in and day out your thinking is always coming back to the things that aren’t within your control - like ‘why didn’t she text me back?’ Or ‘what if I never make as much money as them’ you’ll miss out on a lot of time and energy that you could have been worrying about yourself or other things that are actually within your control and have the potential to solve the problems you’re hell bent on rehearsing in the first place. 545 || be an anomie
ERegardless of how we cut it - we live in a society that is constantly bombarding us with ideals and ways to think, live, abide by, - but when we let society dictate how we’re “supposed” to carry ourselves, how we’re supposed to live, breathe, be, do, go, do, act, be - And as humans go - conformity makes sense, it allows us security - a sense of community, the safety of acceptance + being part of a group that can look out for each other and protect each other. It’s a part of our basic survival. Webster dictionary presents two interpretations for "conformity," the simple definition, “behavior that is the same as the behavior of most other people in a society, group,” and the full definition “action in accordance with some specified standard or authority.” Therefore, breaking from conformity entirely seems utterly impossible. Though nonconformist acts can be from dressing a certain way to becoming an activist against a customary practice. The least we can do is try to break away from social standards that are holding us back. 544 || sober curious || downsides
ESober curious movement can have downsides, it can blur the lines and downplay the red flags of alcohol use disorder. Here are some common red flags to watch out for: You feel as if you need to cut back on drinkingYou can’t stop thinking about drinking/you’re preoccupied with alcohol cravingsYou can’t stop drinkingIf you do stop drinking, the effects of not drinking are worse than the side effects of alcohol (nausea, shaking, sweating)You have to drink more and more alcohol over time to get the same effect (aka, you keep building a higher tolerance)You continue to drink despite knowing it’s affecting your healthYou spend a lot of time buying alcohol, getting drunk, or recovering from the effects of alcoholDrinking makes you neglect your responsibilities (going to work, caring for your children)You drink even when it’s physically dangerous (driving, using heavy machinery)Others have objected to your drinking habitsresources: https://sobercuriousmovement.org/https://www.psycom.net/addiction-substance-abuse/sober-curiousTUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastSEE MY FACE + OTHER CONTENT: www.youtube.com/juliemericaGET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR DAILY(ish) QUOTES: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcast luh you. and don't forget to drink your damn water.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/make-your-damn-bed. 543 || pep talk
EYou're not broken, you just need a little break. 535 || work clean (book)
EDan Charnas of 'work clean' says - Mise en place is not about making things tidy, it’s not about things looking clean. It’s about being able to work clean, which implies motion. The system has to be returned to order. So it’s not just about creating order, like, “Oh, look how I arranged my desk,” it really is about, “I’m going to move through all these projects, but I’ve also made the commitment to myself that when I’m done with this project I’m going to wrap it up.” I’m either going to deliver it or I’m going to put myself in a position where when I resume it, everything is in a place for me to pick it up. Because that’s going to save me 20 minutes, I can use that 20 minutes to do other kinds of work or I can use that 20 minutes to be with my kid and read him a story. I think being a parent, that also affected my venture into this because that time really means something to me. Eprep work is a major part of time spent "in the kitchen" Cleaning, slicing, dicing is 90% of the process while sautéing, plating, and enjoying is very minimal in the scheme of things - but if you’re a happy and fulfilled chef its not because you dread the other mise en place - you find the meditative repetitive aspect of it; you build a relationship with the process, and you often do need to ebb into that obsessive place to stay excited about what you’re producing. Like life - if you’re not enjoying the tedious nature of being a human, you really should try to work to change your relationship with that part, since it is so important and such a valuable piece in actually producing the magic.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/make-your-damn-bed. 527 || alone || embracing creativity to thrive
E“Winning is defined differently for each of us but victory for me would be leaving here at peace with myself. I dunno what that is yet. 526 || alone || a lesson in loneliness
EHere's the second set of things I learned from watching the show ALONE: 2. The main thing that makes people give up on this dream of theirs - other than actual starvation or contracting some sickness or some shit, is that they miss home. Isolation is fucking horrible. 3. One Person’s trash is another person’s lifeline. Anything can become a resource or an asset if you are creative, persistent, practical, optimistic, and a decent problem solver. 4. The ability to shift when shit aint working + not getting your ego hurt by a disappointing outcome, can make all the difference in your longevity + the quality of your experience.TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastSEE MY FACE + OTHER CONTENT: www.youtube.com/juliemerica GET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.com TUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR DAILY(ish) QUOTES: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastluh you. and don't forget to drink your damn water.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/make-your-damn-bed. 525 || alone || a lesson in attitude
EThe most valuable lesson I've learned from binge-watching a bush-whacking show is: 1. Attitude is the number one dictator of success or failure. It’s almost fool proof to assume if one of the contestants is shown mourning their family or losing their cool, or losing their temper, or losing their positive energy around the “mission” that they will give up within the next few days. Whether that be an editing tactic or a real read of human psychology, I couldn’t care less - because it makes sense - as soon as you give up mentally you are almost guaranteeing your inevitable failure. It’s the classic quote, “whether you believe you can or you can not, you’re right.”TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastSEE MY FACE + OTHER CONTENT: www.youtube.com/juliemerica GET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.com TUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR DAILY(ish) QUOTES: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastluh you. and don't forget to drink your damn water.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/make-your-damn-bed. 524 || robert ross is a teacher + a painter
Ethe lesson:even if your life is in shambles right now + there’s a big ass ugly black tree trunk right in the middle of your beautiful landscape of life + all you wanna do is throw the whole damned thing away!?? Tune into that bob ross energy and let it add to your masterpiece. Your curses can become assets with some honing. So, keep fucking going. Don’t give up - just stay calm + redirect that energy into improving the situation at hand instead of sulking about the way it used to be or look or feel. You can create magic when you take what you’ve been handed and view it as a gift + a tool for growth rather than a punishment. Life is hard enough + if we can focus on making those subtle shifts towards positivity, improving the situation with the tools we are supplied.TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastSEE MY FACE + OTHER CONTENT: www.youtube.com/juliemerica GET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.com TUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR DAILY(ish) QUOTES: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastluh you. and don't forget to drink your damn water.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/make-your-damn-bed. Ethis is the final episode in the anchor series - in which we can train ourselves to crave the kibble whenever we hear the bell, just like Pavlov's pup. create a soundtrack or jingles to trigger workout or bedtime or cleaning or work mode. 520 || my superego is a tyrant
EKeeping boundaries with ourselves is CRUCIAL to keeping us happy + safe + productive humans, but bear in mind when things are beneficial regulations meant to enhance your life + experience + the connection with those around you OR if those regulations are more like Constraints that you feel bound to and guilty + shamed about fucking up on. Challenge your self imposed rules + regulations once in a while. I feel like it’s a slippery slope before things become unrealistic standards that mean you’re setting yourself up for failure on a regular basis + consistently breaking the trust you have with yourself with can affect your mental wellbeing. 519 || breakin' the law
EInternal restrictions can be critical boundaries with ourselves, but they are also easy to fall victimized + become restricted by. We want to check in with our subconscious restrictive thought patterns so we don't become constrained by our internal regulation system - and we can continue to feel guided by it, instead. 517 || when it's time to throw away your hard work
EEmbrace the power of the clean slate - whatever that means to you at this stage in your life. if that means trashing the first attempt, revamping the whole thing, imploding what you thought you knew, donating some old memories, cleaning out your HD, rewriting a first draft, taking time off of a relationship, taking a step back from a job, taking a vacation - whatever you need to do to get a fresh perspective? Do it. Don’t be afraid to zoom the fuck out. It doesn't have to be permanent, either. You can donate or trash or burn, sure; but sometimes the power in setting the bullshit aside + re-setting yourself up with a completely blank canvas can be the difference between a masterpiece and just another piece.
