Grant's Rant: 4-11-22 Another Failed Season In Sactown
bonusThe Kings beat the Phoenix Suns in a game that basically was a scrimmage last night to win their 30th game of the season. That also means they lost 52 games this year. It translated into another failed season. Yesterday Jason Anderson of the Sacramento Bee wrote a scathing column on Kings owner Vivek Ranadive. The article was on point and reveals the toxic work environment within the Kings organization. In a word it is a mess! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Grant's Rant: 4-6-22 Kareem's Apology
bonusOn Sunday Kaerem Abdul-Jabbar criticized Lebron James. Kareen said some of Lebron's acts were "embarrassing" and "beneath" him. 24 hours later Kareem went on Sirius XM radio and apologized for his remarks. Kareem said he didn't mean to criticize Lebron. Really? What did you intend to do then? What a joke! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

S2 Ep 157Episode 157: A's Fans All Talk No Action
Oakland A's owner John Fisher has been taking a lot of flack for having such a low pay roll and trading away the team's best players. On today's episode I explore the role of owners and discuss what is exactly you want from your team's owner. To me it is very simple. An owner has a responsibility to put a good product on the field or court. John Fisher has done that. A's fans don't show up. The A's are near the bottom in attendance numbers every year, The die hard A's fans are very loyal, but there aren't enough of them. To me, Fisher has done his job. The A's have been very competitive during his tenure as owner and the fans have stayed away. What is an owner to do? It works both ways! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Grant's Rant: 4-4-22 Ben Simmons Embarrassment
bonusBen Simmons has filed a grievance to challenge the $20 million in salary withheld by the 76ers. So a guy doesn't need to show up for work and when he does he goes through the motions and gets kicked out of practice by Doc Rivers. Simmons didn't play in any games, was unprofessional and didn't live up to his terms of his contract. Now he wants his money? Embarrassing! Learn more about your ad choices. S2 Ep 156Episode 156: Walking Down Memory Lane
On today's podcast i talk about some of the amazing athletes I covered early in my career. The topic came to mind after a discussion on Listen App about Kurt Warner. I actually announced a game in Des Moines, Iowa when Warner was playing in the Arena League for the Iowa Barnstormers. Obviously, nobody knew that they were watching a guy that would be come a Pro Football Hall Of Famer. It got me thinking about some of the other big time athletes I covered in my career. I talk about some of the big time hockey players I announced in college and then share a story about bartending for the New York Rangers one night in Rye, NY. I look back on my career and I am truly blessed. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Grant's Rant: 4-1-22 MLB'S Dumb Extra Innings Rule
Welcome to April which means the start of Major league Baseball. It also means the continuation of a rule that I hate. Once again. extra inning games will begin with a runner on 2nd base. I hated it when the rule was first implemented and I still hate it! How about a compromise? Play 3 or 4 innings of extra innings the conventional way and if still tied go to runner on 2nd. I'd be ok with that at least! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Grant's Rant: 3-31-22 49ers QB Dilemma
bonusThe 49ers are trying to put the best possible spin on their quarterback position, but bottom line, it is a tough position to be in. Everyone expected Jimmy Garoppolo to be traded by now, but shoulder surgery has derailed that for now. A year ago the 49ers gave up a ransom to move up in the draft so they could select Trey lance. This week at the league meetings in Florida we heard from GM John Lynch and HC Kyle Shanahan and they both tried putting the best foot forward on the situation. Regardless of how you feel about the situation, it is hard not see Lance starting in September. The 49ers have put themselves in the situation of sinking or swimming with Lance. Grant's Rant: 3-3-22 NFL Rule Change
bonusThe NFL has adopted a rule change for the post-season. Each team will have a least one possession. Why didn't the league do the same for the regular season? Would that have killed anyone? I like the rule change for the playoffs, but would love to see some consistency with this?. What do you think? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Grant's Rant: 3-29-22 Come on Andy Reid!!
bonusKansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid must have a completely different viewpoint of what it takes to live on than most of us. Yesterday he said this about Tyreke Hill who was traded to the Dolphins, "...he's a family man that has a few kids and he's got to be able to support them now and down the road, and this gives him an opportunity to do that." Come on now coach!!!!! Hill made over 15 million last year. I have no issues with Hill getting more money, but please stop it Andy!!!! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
S2 Ep 155Episode 155: Lia Thomas Controversy
Transgender swimmer Lia Thomas has generated a lot of controversy as a top swimmer Penn's women's team. On today's show I try and prevent both side of the controversy. I start off reading some excerpts from the Independent. Their story feels Thomas does not have an unfair advantage. Former Olympic champion, and transgender woman Caitlyn Jenner has been very critical of Thomas. I discuss that and get into common sense as it relates to this. Is this about common sense, or is it about science? Maybe a little of both? I read what I thought was an excellent column by Phil Mushnick of the New York Post regarding common sense on this issue. One thing is for certain...this issue isn't going away. There needs to be a balance that everyone can agree on when it comes to fair competition in sports. Learn more about your ad choices. Grant's Rant: 3-28-22 Kings Embarrassments
bonusThe Kings have played well as of late. Davion Mitchell has stepped in for the injured De'Aaron Fox and has looked very good! Now that the top 10 in the conference is out of reach the Kings start winning and looking good. Go figure! Off the court it hasn't been a good week for the franchise and that's the topic of today's rant! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Grant's Rant: 3-25-22 NYC Gone Crazy
bonusSo let me get this straight. New York City Mayor Eric Adams is now allowing unvaccinated athletes and other entertainers to return to work, but not the rest of the residents if they are unvaccinated. How absurd is this? This is a travesty! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
S2 Ep 154Episode 154: World Gone Crazy!
On today's episode I discuss the political brainwashing by ESPN, money and power and sports and a tribute to John Clayton who passed away this week. Last Friday during a Women's NCAA basketball game the announcers jammed down the viewers throats their opinion of Florida's " Don't Say Gay" bill. I discuss how absurd this is and why I am boycotting ESPN. I also talk about why so many of our professional athletes misbehave towards the fans. Their is no recourse that's why! I also give a tribute to John Clayton who I had the pleasure of working with back in the late 90's. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Grant's Rant: 3-24-22 The Life Of A Kings Fan
bonusThe Kings beat the pacers last night without De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis. Playing against former teammates Tyrese Haliburton and Buddy Hield for the first time, the Kings got a tip in with .02 remaining for the one point win. What made the game so intriguing is that the teams were separated by one loss in the loss column and ping pong balls are up for grabs. Add to the fact that Buddy turned the ball over with 14 seconds remaining and his team up one, well, you just can't make this stuff up! Kings fans have seen that before right? Grant's Rant: 3-23-22 So Zion Can Dunk?
bonusZion Williamson of the Pelicans has yet to play a game this season due to a fractured foot. He has played in only 85 career games in three seasons. Yesterday he posted a five second video clip of him dunking on his Instagram page. Why? Who cares? I am supposed to be impressed that Williamson can throw the ball off the backboard and do a fancy dunk? I'm not impressed. I will be impressed when I seem him on the court in a real game. What is the purpose of showing a dunk on social media? I don't get it! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Grant's Rant: 3-22-22 Boycotting ESPN
bonusOn Friday ESPN used their platform during the NCAA Women's tournament to protest what critics are calling ""Don't Say Gay" bill in Florida. I am so sick and tired of ESPN political crap down my throat. The announcers paused for two minutes of silence to support the LGBTQIA+ community. I don't want that on my live sporting events. I don't want politics mixed with sports. And this has nothing to do with my feelings towards this community. My motto is pretty simple. Life goes fast. Be happy! But other than the Master's and NHL I am done with ESPN. Enough is enough already! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
S2 Ep 153Episode 153: Deshaun Watson Backlash
Today's episode discusses the ethics in the Cleveland Browns trading for Deshaun Watson. A Grand Jury in Texas chose not to indict Watson earlier this month for sexual misconduct due to lack of evidence. Watson is also facing 22 civil suits. On today's podcast i read excerpts from several columnists pertaining to Watson. I discuss the reaction from the fans as well. If you are a Browns fan how do you feel? The more important question is do you respect women? Can you really just turn your head and ignore the claims of sexual misconduct by 22 different women? I discuss all of this on today's show! bonusNBA player's are having trouble maintaining their cool against fans and their actions. Last week the Nets Kevin Durant told a fan to shut the f*%k up and sit down because the fane asked him to take over the game. Yesterday in Indianapolis Jusuf Nurkic of the Blazers was seen walking over to a fan after the game, taking the fan's phone and throwing it. Nurkic was in street clothes, but obviously something made him upset? Why not call team security? Why throw the fan's phone? Do the NBA players care how bad these acts look? I guess not! S2 Ep 152Episode 152: Arco Arena Memories Part 2
On this episode I give you my fondest memories of Arco Arena which opened in 1988. The first event I witnessed in that arena was the 1988 Ring magazine fight of the year. Tony Lopez beat Rocky Lockridge for his first world title. It was as good of an atmosphere that I've ever experienced at a sporting event. Opening night for the Kings was one of my favorite moments as well. I can't remember much about the game, but it was my second NBA telecast and I was in awe of the evening! In 1996 the Kings played their first ever playoff game at Arco Arena. The Kings had won game 2 in Seattle and the ovation the fans gave the Kings when they took the floor is my favorite Arco Arena memory. I've never seen anything like it. I also discuss April14, 2011 when I broke down on camera thinking it was the last game the Kings would play in Sacramento. Obviously, the last game ever played in that building in 2016 was very special as well. I was blessed to be a part of the history of Arco Arena and I hope you enjoy this podcast! Grant's Rant: 3-18-22 Calipari Overrated!
bonusCan we please stop talking about what a great coach John Calipari is? 2 seed Kentucky was upset by #15 St Peters in the first round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament yesterday. Calipari has only one championship at Kentucky, 2012 when he had Anthony Davis. Calipari is a great recruiter, but not a great coach! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Grant's Rant: 3-17-22 Kevin Durant Is Mr Sensitive
bonusHow about Kevin Durant at the Barclay's Center last night? A fan yelled, " hey Kevin, you got to take this game over". Durant responds, " you got to shut the F up and sit down". What a bad look for Durant, the Nets and the NBA. The fan did nothing wrong. He was trying to encourage his team. Durant should be ashamed of himself! Learn more about your ad choices. Grant's Rant: 3-16-22 NYC and Their Idiotic Mandates
bonusWe know Kyrie Irving of the Nets can't play at home games and the same will be true of unvaccinated players for the Yankees and Mets. I mean you wouldn't want an unvaccinated player outdoors in the sunshine playing baseball right? Seriously, how stupid is this? How bad does NYC look with their idiotic mandates. Ridiculous! Grant's Rant: 3-15-22 Can't Win For Losing
bonusLast night the Kings upset the Bulls and now have a record of 25-45. This team can't seem to win when they need to, and can't lose when they need to. At this point please don't screw up your draft position. To Coach Alvin gentry's credit and the players on the court they are trying to win, but shouldn't management step in and say hey let's start playing the youngsters more? Why screw up the season now? The best chance for the Kings to become a playoff team is by acquiring a good players in the draft. The difference of one spot can be huge! Learn more about your ad choices. S2 Ep 151Episode 151: Arco Arena Memories Part 1
This weekend fans will have an opportunity to go to Arco arena one last time. The arena opened in November 1998. It was my first year of broadcasting for the Kings and that opening night was beyond special. I share some of my fondest memories from those early years. Grant's Rant: 3-14-22 Thin Skinned Athletes
bonusAm I supposed to feel sorry for tennis star Naomi Osaka because a fan chanted " Naomi, you suck" this past weekend at Indian Wells? Well I don't! I don't feel sorry for Russell Westbrook either, or any other pro sports figure who gets bent out of shape over fans heckling. Deal with it, or choose another profession! To me it's that simple. You are on a big stage. You can't make millions from salary and endorsements and then complain when someone says something bad to you. These athletes are lucky they didn't play 10, 20, 30, 40 years ago. They'd last about 10 minutes! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

S2 Ep 150Episode 150: Mike Pereira NFL On Fox
Today's episode features Mike Pereira from the NFL On Fox. We talked about the bad no call in the Super Bowl that resulted in a touchdown for the Bengals when Jalen Ramsey's face mask was clearly grabbed. Mike also discussed working with his colleagues Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. Aikman left Fox to go to ESPN and Mike was in the booth with those guys a lot including the Super Bowl. I asked Mike about being on camera with over 100 million people watching. We had a great laugh on that one! The main topic of conversation though is officiating on the youth level and it was very interesting to hear Mike's reasons for officials quitting after one or two years. Mike started a foundation called Battlefields to Ballfields and he has done a great job giving some of our veterans a second career. Mike gave great insights on what is needed to have sports officials truly want to stick around! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Grant's Rant: 3-11-22 Big Game James Harden Not
bonusLast night the Nets went into Philadelphia and embarrassed the 76ers. Ben Simmons didn't play, but was in attendance and got booed all night. James Harden did what he does a lot....disappear in big games. Harden was 3-17 and didn't make a two point basket. The Nets if healthy and Ben Simmons getting on the floor soon could be a tough out in the playoffs. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Grant's Rant: 3-9-22 A Gambling No-No
bonusThe NFL suspended Falcons WR Calvin Ridley for making parlay bets on NFL games including the Falcons. An NFL investigation found the bets occurred in November when Ridley was away from the team due to mental health issues. Games weren't affected from Ridley's bets, but bottom line is you can't have that! Players can not bet on their league and their teams. Period! Why are so many critical of the league's decision? Just because they make millions of dollars from gambling sites? This is really pretty simple to me. Don't bet on your sport!Grant's Rant: 3-9-22 A Gambling No-No Learn more about your ad choices. S2 Ep 149Episode 149: Dubious Sports Records
After seeing the Sacramento Kings suffer another embarrassing loss last night at the hands of the Knicks it made me think of dubious sports records. The Kings have secured their 16th straight losing season which is now an NBA record. The team also holds the record for most consecutive road losses with 43. On today's episode I talk about a few of the other dubious team records in sports. My rant is yes you guessed it, on the Kings pathetic loss last night! Learn more about your ad choices.
