Could smaller desserts help immunity? Dr. Matt Cook #275
It turns out of all the things you can do to protect yourself from illness, one of them is have smaller puddings. Also on this podcast we talk antibody testing, sorting out the gut, and whether a miracle supplement that is supposed to heal the junctions in your gut is worth it. First a disclaimer… please don't start any new regime without consulting your medical practitioner. If you think you are suffering from coronavirus you must get the appropriate medical advice, as Dr Cook advocates a number of times in this podcast. Celest is a self-confessed anatomy geek. She's a trained physio, and one of the world's most successful yoga teachers (though she'd be far too modest to ever describe herself as that.) She's been on Zestology 5 times now - you'll enjoy listening.

How's your lockdown going? Finding it hard to stop raiding the treats cupboard? Yep, me too. So today, we focus on. The integrity of one's diet. The impact of too many sugary treats on your immune system (oh dear!) Preventative strategies to stay healthy. Could intermittent fasting help during lockdown? The joy of carbs! The quality of one's news sources. The people you follow who will give you good information. We recorded this since the pandemic took hold, and the importance of diet can't be understated. So I'm joined by the Ketologist, Chris Irvin - spoiler, he may be "The Ketologist" but he's not all about keto.
We can get through this. Concentrating on your mission - Dr. Stephen Simpson #267
Dr. Steve is one of my best friends and a regular guest. He's in the unique position of being a medical doctor for 30 years, and more recently a specialist on high performance, mental game and dealing with stress. So extremely relevant at this particular time. In this podcast we talk concentrating on our mission in tough times, dealing with fear and anxiety (and why they're not the same), switching off and loads more. Enjoy.
Book Club: Funny, compulsively readable fiction
As you know, I've been considering setting up a free Book Club. And here it is. Books feature a lot on the podcast so maybe it is a good idea at this time. We are all desperately in need of switching off the news (if just for 20 minutes) and escaping. So in this podcast I launch our first book. The idea is we all read it together, and then... uh, well I'm kind of making it up as I go along, as you'll hear in the podcast.
Lockdown tactics: immunity, breathing, supplements and histamine support - Beth O'Hara #266
EOn today's podcast, find out what's in my freezer, and other more important lockdown issues. She has a Doctorate in Naturopathy specialising in Functional Naturopathic Approaches and is the perfect person to talk to in these strange times. We talk in general terms about immunity, breathing techniques, supplements and tips, and also a bit more in depth about allergies, histamine intolerance and mast cell activation syndrome too. THIS EPISODE IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY: BiOptimizers, a company that have made it their mission to heal our guts. I'm getting in some industry-leading supplements at the moment. Yes, just call me the gut-health guinea pig, trying their stuff out and making my digestion like new. Want to join me? For more info on them and a cheesy picture of me, head to http://www.bioptimizers.com/zestology, and use the code ZESTOLOGY10 for 10% off. Coronavirus: Immune system and anti-virus support - Dr. Matt Cook #265
On this coronavirus focused podcast we look at anything and everything we can do to improve our health and immune system. Including; Functional medicine treatments, and commonly available supplements that science may show helps. Pharmaceutical approaches that doctors and governments may pursue First a disclaimer at the start… please don't start any new regime without consulting your medical practitioner. If you think you are suffering from coronavirus you must get the appropriate medical advice, as Dr Cook advocates a number of times in this podcast. Dr. Matt Cook runs a functional medicine clinic called BioReset Medical, and is one of the world's top experts in the area of natural health and immunity. I first found out about him from Ben Greenfield and Dave Asprey. He has spent the past several weeks distilling the latest coronavirus research, talking with experts around the world and integrating his vast clinical experience to provide up to date information to the public and medical practitioners. As you'll hear, he's reading every available study every day, and he's changing his approach based on the science daily too. To reiterate, if you get ill, he is absolutely not saying take matters into your own hands. You must get proper medical treatment, but he does say there are things you can do to boost your immunity. Please stay safe and healthy.
Immunity, science and health - Dr. Jeff Rediger #264

He publishes in the fields of medicine, psychiatry and spirituality. His work has been featured on the Oprah and Dr. Oz shows, among others.

The uncertainty, the anxiety and the health implications of coronavirus are weighing heavily on our minds as the disruption continues to impact on all areas of our lives. Breathwork expert Richard Blake and I just recorded this, and look at the worrying aspects of this virus, and how we can best deal with the anxiety around coronavirus and look after ourselves at this strange and uncertain time. This podcast is all about energy, so how do we protect our energy fields at this time? Loaded with some practical suggestions you can do today, especially if you are stuck at home.
Immunity, health and the gut - Wade Lightheart #262
I start today's podcast with my thoughts on coronavirus. It's an unusually sober start to proceedings as I know many of you are anxious about what is occurring across the world. Whilst I certainly wouldn't offer any health advice on coronavirus, I've talked in the podcast where I've been going for information and what's been on my mind. Then we turn our attention to immunity - something we are all keen to boost at the moment. Let's be honest, sorting out the gut is the key. It's THE thing, but it's really hard to know where to start. It's very hard to get the right advice. Today's guest can help. Wade Lightheart. Wade is a 3-time former Canadian All-Natural Bodybuilding champion, and then he went on to found a company called BiOptimizers that specialises in digestive health. Oh he's also an advisor to the American Anti-Cancer Institute. The company's called BiOptimzers and so let's do some bioptimzing. He's been in the health industry for over 25 years, coached thousands of clients, and is sought out by athletes and high-performance oriented individuals worldwide for his advice on how to optimize their health. The Joy Of Missing Out #259
EA short, sweet podcast on The Joy of Missing Out. It's so important. Doing less, saying no, disconnecting and watching Dancing On Ice on the telly. Or whatever it might be. Fear of missing out, or FOMO is wrecking our lives. So this podcast is a compilation of some of my favourite podcast guests, past and future who live a JOMO life… And my thoughts on JOMO too. You'll hear Sarah Knight Katie Brindle Chris Ryan Brett Moran Between them they live on four continents, and very much walk-the-walk when it comes to doing less and enjoying life, in their own different ways.
Testing, health and performance. The perfect 2 tests to get to work on your health - Beth O'Hara part 2 #258
Lots of people ask me how they can track their own health and wellness. What are the markers you should look out for, and how can you interpret the results. So today, in part 2 of my interview with the wonderful Beth O'Hara, we look at what two tests would be a great idea to take, and then I've taken them! So she interprets my results. Let's see what she finds...
Are Allergies Killing Your Performance? Looking into Histamine Intolerance and MCAS - Beth O'Hara #257
Recently I started a new diet, and it completely changed my life. Easily the biggest health and wellness change of the last 12 months. Absolute game changer, i have more energy, more in shape, less bloating, and so on. This has been the best change on a Zestology theme for a long time. So in this podcast, we look into a real passion of mine, something that Cpmplex issues - MCAS and Histamine Intolerance. Between 9 and 15% of the population have it, that might be you, and you don't even know it. We start with Beth's story, then get on to talking more generally about allergies and how they can be a killer in terms of performance, and a little about my experience of Histamine Intolerance too.
ZestHacks: Coffee tech and optimising your brain in 2020 #256
My favourite recent hacks to help your energy and vitality levels. Recorded on the beach - very lucky to get a dose of winter Vitamin D. More info on brain hacks: I first used this brain sensing headband about 5 years ago. Click here if you'd like to see my good friend Dr. Stephen Simpson modelling it in an earlier podcast. It is described as a personal meditation assistant that will gently guide you to a calm mind. Put on the Muse headband, earbuds, start the app, and close your eyes. You will hear changing sounds of weather based on the real-time state of your brain which allows you to obtain a deeper sense of focus and motivates you to build a highly rewarding practice. Brain hack 2 to energise you: Meditation app. You might remember I mentioned Sam Harris' Waking Up meditation app about a year ago. And I'm still using it. It makes a big difference to my day and has got me thinking about all sorts of trippy consciousness concepts. It's very simple, and introduces the listener to lots of different types of meditation. Each day is about 10 minutes so manageable. They've recently introduced a 20-minute option too. Brain hack 3 to energise you? A U.S. brain research company called Emotiv has developed a brain-scanning device with two electrodes, one for each ear (thanks to Zestology listener Sonia for flagging it up). It looks like standard ear pods, and functions like them too. I'm not keen, in fact I wouldn't even want to wear standard earpods all day connected to either bluetooth or wifi. But that aside, technology moving into user-friendly brain-scanning raises all sorts of ethical considerations, and whilst I quite like the Muse headband, I draw the line at this! What about you? Let me know.
The perils of overscheduling - Katie Brindle #255

Turmeric and the low-histamine diet How to navigate Glastonbury and still feel sane at the end of it. And plenty more. Enjoy x

Use technology to help you, not distract you - Professor Gloria Mark #253
How many times have you checked your mobile phone in the last hour? Or your email? Professor Gloria Mark specialises in digital distraction, information overload and how we can adapt our behaviour to be more efficient on a day-to-day basis and more fulfilled too. She's looked at the role between Internet access and multi-tasking. (I'm not good at multi-tasking!) She's also studied the link between, stress, mood and computer usage. This is fairly astonishing and she goes into it in the podcast.

There's an "end of year" feel to the Zestology podcast today which I hope you'll enjoy. It features some of my favourite people, gadgets and hacks from 2019. The things that have really made a difference in my wellness/fitness regimen. Some are fairly straightforward, and some may be a little more out there. He's the world's leading longevity and ageing expert. According to him, if you follow the simple things he outlines in our interview, you'll live for 14 years longer. Sounds like a no-brainer. Addicted to Instagram? Tech wellness - August Brice #250
In this podcast we look at 3 tech toxins, and sort them out. TECH TOXIN 1: ADDICTION A dependency on our screens is a real and growing problem. I know this from my own addiction to looking at nonsense on my smartphone. TECH TOXIN 2: RADIATION & BLUE LIGHT There are now more cell phones than people on earth, and every single one of them emits EMF electromagnetic radiation. Add cell towers, WiFi, and smart devices and we're blanketed with invisible waves. Studies show EMF radiation has a biological impact. TECH TOXIN 3: PRIVACY STEALERS Our personal information, where we go online and what we say or do while were there can be archived, shared or sold.
Transformational breathwork - Richard Blake #249
On this podcast, I receive a transformational breathwork session. We had a session and then recorded a podcast straight after. I was a bit spaced out as it was a deep experience. Richard Blake uses bio-hacking and breathwork in a combination of ancient wisdom, personal spirituality and modern science to help people to transform their lives. His studies of psychotherapy, holistic counselling, nutrition, Reiki, health coaching and functional fitness have given him a holistic understanding of people. By working on a combination of the mind, body and spirit people are able to heal without neglecting one aspect of themselves that would prevent them from realizing their potential. Richard offers 1-1 breathwork sessions along with holistic counselling for integration and advanced health coaching from Hammersmith. He's also into + 15 minutes daily on the Joovv redlight + the human charger + standing on the grounding mat + neurofeedback with the Muse Meditation headband.... And lots more… so we had plenty to discuss. Check out www.richardblake.com for more.
Is breakfast necessary? (Or how to eat big meals and stay lean) - Max Lowery #248
Are you a breakfast eater or not? There are those of us who eat breakfast and there are those who don't, but most of us feel like we should - we have had it drummed into us. That's where Celebrity Trainer (and friend of Zestology) Max Lowery comes in. Max's CV: • Creator - The 2 Meal Day • Author • Mountain Guide - @connect_retreats • Columnist - @telegraph • Ambassador - @vivobarefoot And here's what he says about skipping breakfast: "I enjoy eating LARGE meals and feeling satisfied after eating. If I were to eat three large meals with snacks in between I would certainly be consuming more than I was burning. The 2 Meal Day has allowed me to stay lean effortlessly, all year round"
Great diet, great health, great performance, great geek out - Angela Foster #247
EIt's not often The Wolf Of Wall Street and Qualudes come up in a podcast, but they do today. Angela is the Founder and CEO of My DNA Edge, an Exclusive Private Membership Site giving individuals the tools and bio hacks needed to optimise their genetic expression for optimal health and performance. Angela really knows her stuff. If you want to get your DNA results analysed - she's your woman. And this was a thoroughly enjoyable session about all sorts of wellness practices. We veer from The Wolf Of Wall Street and Qualuudes, (don't worry, I've not been taking Qualuudes, but we did discuss Qualia.) to cutting edge apps, practices and more.

Meet CAR.O.L - your AI powered fitness bike. Get the same benefits of a 45 minute jog in 2, 20-second sprints. Sounds too good to be true - I know. So I record this episode while sitting on the Carol Exercise Bike. It uses the latest Artificial Intelligence to compress a workout into a few seconds. It sounds barely credible I know, but imagine having your workout compressed into two 20 second spurts every day.... And hear me get absolutely destroyed in those two 20 second bits! Since we recorded this podcast I've been using it quite a bit and I'm really starting to enjoy the brief, intense push, and the extra time. I'm hoping I'll see the results on my chicken legs too. Here's what the company say about their extraordinary bike. SHORT: Cuts your exercise time dramatically CAR.O.L is clinically proven to give you the same cardio benefits of a 45-minute jog with only 40 seconds of hard work. Minimalist living - Brett Moran #245
EComing up; minimalist living and the unexpected joy of a broken laptop, getting rid of all your bills, minimalist mobile phones, alternative meditation techniques such as staring into someone's eyes for 63 minutes (!), breathwork and how sometimes it can feel like a mild stimulant, celebrating your successes and admitting to your failures, and lots more. He's back - you might have heard previous interviews with friend of the show Brett Moran recorded in Thailand. This time he was visiting London, so came to stay for the night.
The work ethic of a hunter gatherer - Chris Ryan #244
EI'm excited about today's podcast. I'm a big fan of Chris's podcast and his books, and in fact had to try hard not to be a fanboy when recording this interview. I love his stories and thoughts about everything from travelling in India to polyamorous relationships to lots more... he's like the best lecturer you never had in sociology, anthropology, history and sexuality. After being the person wrote THE book that so many people like to turn to about sexuality, he's now written Civilised To Death which has just been released. It's an important and intense read. As he says: "Our most urgent dreams may simply reflect the world as it was before we fell asleep." So what's the way forward? How can we seek future guidance in our past? And should we start looking backward to find our way into a better future?

Cutting-edge vitality gadgets, hacks, supplements and more - Tim Allen #242
Have I ever been more chilled out recording a podcast? I am a big fan of the float tank - an hour's sensory deprivation to restore mind and body. And that features in today's podcast. I recently spent some time at Yue Float and feel as good as new. Also trying the para light pad, the ajna light, and the infrared sauna. All of which means that the start of this podcast is very relaxed, and owner, biohacker and health optimiser Tim Allen is the perfect person to discuss cutting-edge energy hacks. He's a man who is really going for it to optimise every area of his health, life and performance.

And if you enjoy it, perhaps you'll share it with someone else you know who could do with a better night's sleep.
