Hi there, I'm Bella Vasta from Jump Consulting. You might know me from CBS, NBC, Fox, Huffington Post, Entrepreneur, or maybe you've seen me speak on stage or read my book, The Four Dogs That Every Business Owner Needs. In any case, get ready because you're about to get your hashtag Bella Butt Kickin' in this next episode of Bella in Your Business. So what do you say? Let's get ready and jump. Welcome to Bella in Your Business. My name is Bella Vasta, and today I've got a very special guest. This is someone who helps make sure this entire podcast actually happens on time, sounds amazing, and that I don't sound silly. I want you guys to welcome Chris Lanning. Chris Lanning’s been producing podcasts since he first fell in love with the medium on Christmas Day, 2005. He's produced his own since 2006 and for clients since 2012. His company, Neighborhood Stage Productions, produces podcasts and other audio projects for clients. They always strive to make their clients' productions sound as professional as they know that we are, right? Chris also does voiceovers too. He has his own podcast, which I'm sure we'll talk about. I really wanted to have him come on because I know that some of you have been tinkering around with this idea. I want to break it down for you because the barrier to entry is not as complicated as you might think, and we just kind of want to blow the lid off that for you today. Chris thanks Bella for having him on and says he likes being out from behind the curtain. He congratulates Bella again on reaching 200 episodes, calling it a huge achievement for a weekly podcast. Bella thanks him and says it’s thanks to him too since he’s one of the longest contractors she’s ever worked with. She appreciates how easy and seamless it’s been knowing she can send him the files and trust he’ll handle it—even when life was crazy, and she got the files to him only 48 hours in advance. She asks him to tell her more about what he does and the clients he works with. Chris explains that most of his clients are professionals—coaches, financial advisors, or trainers—who typically host interview podcasts similar to hers. Some mix in solo episodes, which he recommends doing at least once every ten episodes, if not more often. Some clients alternate between solo and interview formats. He helps clients find their sound, get the right tech and microphones, and set up their Zoom calls properly for quality audio. Clients the

My name is Bella Vasta and today I've got a longtime friend with me, Byron Ingram. He is a great marketer who's been doing this for 20 years out of Dallas. I saw Byron post something that really piqued my interest and I knew that I had to have him on here to help pique your interest as well. Byron is a marketing strategist that helps small businesses get through tough times, especially during COVID. So Byron, thank you for being here today to help talk to all the dog walkers and pet sitters. We are in wild, crazy times right now where a lot of listeners are just like, “Is this over yet?” We went through a period where COVID struck—we were shocked, then grieving, then angry, then helpless, then determined. And we’re all doing this in different stages, right? Every business is affected differently. Just when we think we’re coming back, boom, some of us are shut down again. It’s a crazy roller coaster. As a marketer, Byron is that light on the horizon saying, “There’s hope. Walk this way.” So what are some things business owners can do to grow through this ever-changing environment? Byron says the most important thing is to remind yourself what problem you actually solve. For dog walkers, that means giving peace of mind to owners—knowing their furry family members are taken care of. Sometimes that means adjusting how you deliver that peace of mind. Bella agrees, saying the old paradigm was walking dogs because owners were at the office. Now that people are home, you have to find new ways to provide peace of mind. Byron explains that even though owners are home, their dogs still want attention and playtime while the owners are busy working. You have to help owners feel less guilty and keep their pets happy. Bella adds that she’s been telling her mastermind group that if you’re still solving the same problems you were before COVID, you’re probably struggling. Dog walkers used to say, “I’ll take care of your dog while you’re gone all day,” but now midday walks have shifted to mornings because people need their dogs tired before they start work. Byron agrees—it’s not about changing the pro

We also both have had pet sitting businesses, so we know exactly what we needed. We started doing all the outlines and meeting weekly and flushing them out. It was really a match made in heaven because what Liz is good at, I'm not. And what I'

Welcome everybody to another episode of Bella in Your Business. My name is Bella Vasta, and I am excited to be here with you again. We are kind of rounding out this video series. This is the fourth podcast in a row talking all about how you basically can use video to leverage your business on your website, online, and even in email if you don't realize it. Today, we're actually going to round out this part of the series by talking about repurposed content and how that can become your best friend forever or your BFF. And then, I'm totally going to tease this, but in the next episode, we're going to come back with my partner, Liz Illig, to talk all about how you can use video in your training. You guys, in case you haven't realized it, we are—2020 is definitely the video year. It's been a long time coming. It's been at least five, six, seven years. You know, we started squawking about it. I've been doing it since before it was cool and talking to you guys about it for at least 10 years. But, you know, video really is something that you need to incorporate in your business in every single facet, and we're going to get more into that next episode. But so far, we've talked about how you can easily leverage it using our friends over at InVideo. We've got you a 50% offer from them, making it only $5 a month. They’ve got over a million royalty-free videos that you can use—stock videos in addition to uploading some of your own if you want. They've even created templates that you can borrow. They've created templates for me that I've approved for top of the funnel, middle of the funnel, and bottom of the funnel. That's something that we talked about a couple episodes ago. And then, in the last episode, we talked about creating snackable content and what that means. A lot of you guys have actually been emailing me and showing me the videos that you've been making, and I've been giving you some tips and ideas on how to make them a little more snappy or jazzy because it does take a little bit of creativity. So, you start off with a template or your own idea and then make it into more of a snackable video, which we talked about last episode. So if you haven’t heard that, you might want to go back and do that. And before that, we talked about top, middle, and bottom of the funnel and how those videos actually change. A common theme

Welcome everybody to another episode of Bella in Your Business. My name is Bella Vasta and we are going to continue this series about video. I wanted to take four episodes to explain all the different things that you could consider about video so that you can be the most successful when doing it. By now, you've probably already seen my masterclass where I showed you top of the funnel, middle of the funnel, bottom of the funnel, and also gave you templates that you could use, as well as a 50% off code, BELLA50, to InVideo. It's awesome video software that's super cheap—only $5 a month, basically affordable for anybody. No contracts or anything like that either. I wanted to take today to talk about a step-by-step process for creating promotional dog walking videos. I wanted to break it down so that it's pretty easy. But first, I wanted to talk about common misconceptions. A lot of times we think we only need one brand video promo. Or maybe you've gone on to Animoto and made one of those long scrolling videos of all the dogs you walk—and no one really cares unless their own dog is in it, right? I would consider trying to make a video for almost every single service you offer. I don't mean just “dog walk,” “pet sit,” or “overnight.” I mean a lunchtime let-out, a potty break, a morning walk, a midday let-out, or an “I’m on Zoom and need my dog walked” type of service. All of these different reasons why you walk dogs—that’s what I would do. Let’s call those promo videos. For every single promo or service that you have, I would definitely create one. Most people think they only need one, and you could get away with that, but maybe make it a goal to do one a month. That could really build your arsenal over time, and then you can use them for anything—from ads to Facebook, Instagram, or even your website. It can show potential clients what to expect, or even answer questions like, “What exactly happens on those walks?” I’ll keep referring to an arsenal because as we build content, that’s basically what we’re doing—building weapons we can use. In reality, these promo videos need to create highly contextual messages for every use case if you want the messaging to stick. For example, I was conducting a live masterclass and had a promo highlighting the benefits of the masterclass and what it’s about. If you had an end-of-season offer or sale, you’d need a promo for that too. For example, for holidays like the 4th of July, Memorial Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas. Think about all the reasons you could create what we’ll loosely call a promo video. Now, I know some of you are thinking, “Oh my gosh, I need a lot of
Episode 205: How to Use Funnels To Easily Create Video Content
Would you like to learn how to use your pet business marketing funnels to create your video content? Structured properly you should have several campaigns going for all three stages of your funnel. Awareness campaigns are typically a top of funnel or TOFU activity. Lead generation campaigns are geared more for the Middle of Funnel or MOFU , and your conversion campaigns are the Bottom of Funnel of Bofu. My name is Bella Vasta, your host. And for the next four episodes, we are going to talk all about video. So it's going to be you and me in a nice intimate setting. I'm not going to try to make them 30 minutes long or whatever—however long it goes for will be however long it goes for. But I promise that I'm going to expand and excite your brain with everything video. Now you guys know that 2020 has not been the best year ever, or at least that's the general consensus. I kind of like to say that we've had the COVID cover to figure out what we're actually doing, what we actually want to do. And it's really given us the gift of time, the gift that we'll never ever have again in our life. And part of that is taking a step back and realizing what we can't and what we should do. And while we've all been sequestered and everyone's at different stages around the world and in the country, I get that—but we have been online a lot more. And while we're online a lot more, it's the best way to get our businesses in front of people's faces. You guys have heard me squawking about video forever. I was doing video before it was cool. I was trying to get you guys to do video. We've been creating video for the past three semesters in Better Marketing with Bella because it's not just enough to put up graphics or, God forbid, just a status update without even a picture. Even videos, I mean—or even like advertisements—doing them with videos. But video can be done fifty ways to Sunday. So it's also really overwhelming to figure out what to do. It's also overwhelming to figure out how to get it to convert, what to say, how to shoot it, what to shoot it with. And then you've got your own problems that I’ve heard from you guys—“I don't like the way I sound on video,” “I don't like the way I look,” “I don't have any place to shoot it,” “I don't know what to create.” All these tools are awesome, but then you say, “I'm not creative.” So there are all these barriers of entry that just pile up, and you end up not doing anything with it, right? Well, hopefully by the end of this short series—or if you watched my masterclass I had a couple of weeks ago on Facebook—you’re going to see how you can jumpstart your video marketing here at the end of 2020 and really stand out. In this episode, we're going to talk all about what it takes to generate leads via videos. So we already discussed some

So why don't you go ahead and fill in those gaps for me really quick and tell our audience how long you've been in business. When did it start? Why did it start? And what burns inside your belly to keep going, especially during this recording when we're in 2020, July 2020, and the whole world's falling apart. Yeah, it definitely is. Sure. So I actually launched this business in February of 2017 and it was just me and my idea of doing it. I had been in the corporate world for a really long time. There had been some things that happened, a position that I had been working in had been eliminated. And so I really allowed myself to take the time and figure out what did I actually want that next chapter to look like in my life. So after taking a couple months, doing a lot of research, kind of trying to figure stuff out, I launched this business with kind of a wing and a prayer and myself. So that was February of 2017 and then by May I brought on my first team member and we have really just expanded and grown from that point. And that was May of 2017? That was when I brought on my first team member in May of 2017, yes. Okay, so let's d

Today I have Jeannie Walters with me. She actually blew us away in the mastermind, so I had to bring her to the airwaves to all of you who have not yet had the pleasure of being in the mastermind. Jeannie, for more than 20 years, has had one mission—to create fewer ruined days for customers. She’s the CEO and founder of Experience Investigators, a global customer experience consulting firm, and she is an absolute dynamite. She really got us thinking about some cool things. So today we’re going to spend time talking all about customer experience, because it isn’t just leaving a treat on the table or sending a thank-you card. It’s much more than that. So without further ado, welcome to the show, Jeannie. Thank you so much. I’m thrilled to be here. I know a lot of people have probably heard about customer service, but we’re going to talk about customer experience today. So can you break down what exactly customer experience is? Sure. A lot of times when I say I do customer experience work, people jump to the idea of reactive customer service. That’s when things go wrong and we have to call somebody or use the chat. But really, customer experience is about the end-to-end experience that we have as customers with a brand. That includes things that happen before the sale—just when we’re first aware of the brand—all the way through every interaction, every touchpoint, every time we engage, until we either stay with them forever or leave them. Sometimes there’s that saying, “When we’re so deep in the woods, it’s hard to see the forest.” That’s a good metaphor for this because a lot of times people get defensive and say, “I understand my customers. What are you talking about?” And last I checked, we all have too much to do and not enough time to do it. We’re asked as businesspeople to focus on certain things, and that means while we’re doing that, we’re not always paying attention to the experience our customers are having. We justify this by saying we understand the process and how it’s supposed to work—like every customer should get a welcome package, an email on the tenth day, and so on. But if we’re not checking in on that experience, we don’t really know what’s happening. It’s important to step back and look from the customer’s perspective. Even just having the mindset that we don’t know the whole story our customers have can go a long way. It forces you to think differently about every interaction. You might send an email, but do they read it? Do they care about it? Is it act

What I’ve noticed over the years is that the same persuasion and storytelling techniques I use in court work even better on social m

You stop preparing, take action, and actually apply what you learn. But what if you're afraid? Then start small. Set your alarm for 90 seconds and DO whatever you're scared of doing. After that 90 seconds, you'll never be at the same level of fear. The best way to deal with a perfectionist mindset is with massive action. It's messy, but you have to embrace it and do it anyways. Just remember that no matter what you are doing, it's not going to be great the very first time you do it - so just get it over with! Perfection is NOT a human quality and it's always going to hold you back. Show Highlights [1:45] - Where is Olenka's story? [3:00] - What holds business owners back from taking action? She empowers women to level up their businesses via online boot camps, the I Start Women's First Summit, and by delivering keynotes and workshops for companies nationwide and globally. She also developed this Backbone of Success Method that I'm sure we're going to talk about today. She's worked globally, combining humor and personal experience. She is such a kick-in-the-butt kind of girl. She's actually who I call when I need a kick in the butt. And she's been a TEDx speaker not once, but twice. So get ready—we’re in for a treat today. Olenka, thanks for joining us. If you see the video of this, you’ll see that Olenka has this hot pink in her branding and even her microphone muff is this hot pink color. But don’t let the pink fool you—because she’s fierce. Don’t let the pink, the blonde, or the accent fool you. Tell us about that accent. Why don’t you give us a little bit of an origin? Because as our listeners get to know you over the next 25 minutes or so, I’m sure they’re going to try to pinpoint where that accent’s from. So where are you from? It’s not from Texas. I actually was born and raised in Russia and moved to the U.S. right before I turned 21. My mom was a diehard entrepreneur, and I took it for granted for the longest time. But in reality, she gave me all the skills. I sort of picked them up involuntarily because she built her company from scratch and ran it for 37 years. When I w

In any case, get ready because you're about to get your hashtag Bella Butt Kickin' in this next episode of Bella in Your Business. So what do you say? Let's get ready and jump. Wow, you guys, wow. Have you ever started something in life and had no idea how you were going to actually complete it? You had no idea how it was going to work out—you just knew that you had to start stepping. You knew you had to take that first step, fake it till you made it, do it scared, do it wrong, do it not perfect. Guys, this is my 200th episode. And the very first thing I need to say is—how in the world did we get here? I have some plans for you for this episode. In fact, last week, if you’re an avid follower of this podcast, you know that I actually skipped a week because I didn’t want to rush this. I took a minute, took a breath, and tried to really figure out what I wanted to say to you. Because the fact that you are listening to this right now and giving me your time and allowing me into your head—I hold that as a huge honor. I don’t want to just talk into this microphone in my office by myself just to hear myself talk. At the end of this, I want to provide you so much value and things for you to think about. But wow, I’ve come a long way from doing this on my laptop in my bedroom closet because it was the only place that actually had carpet. I want to thank you for taking this journey with me. I want to thank you for all of the reviews that you’ve left on iTunes. I started this way back in 2014, and it is now 2020. It took me a little bit to get consistent and publish every Thursday, but wow, I’m really humbled and shocked. For today, I’m just going to rap with you, and I hope that’s okay. I’ve got about seven or eight major points that I want to make, and this is going to come from more of a motivational standpoint. What you may not know about me is that I have a desire burning in my belly to be a motivational speaker—around sales and leadership. And I will do that. I’m going to put it out there and say, I am a motivational speaker around sales and leadership. A lot of things I take the stage for right now are Facebook groups and building online communities because that’s been the backbone of my career—from the pet world and also here on this podcast. Building communities is what I do. And it’s been a really interesting time around COVID, because as those communities online have flourished, face-to-face communities have diminished—and I’m sure you’re all feeling it. I remind myself that I’m not alone. I remind myself that there are other people out there fighting depression, anxiety, loneliness. Sometimes the loneliness is so deafening. You might not realize that about me until you listen to the podcast, but it’s true—from my heart to yours. I want you all to know that you’re not alone. The way that I overcome things
Episode 199: How To Do Virtual Meet and Greets In Your Pet Business

Nikki & Steph, co-owners of Dog Jogs, have actually transitioned to now conducting ONLY virtual meet and greets, and have a wealth of knowledge to share. Their company truly believes that 'a tired dog is a happy dog' and specializes in jogging dogs. They also believe in providing effective, efficient resolutions to customer service issues and ensure complete client satisfaction. Which is what helps them continue to think outside the box, and grow their business by evolving as challenges arise. Welcome to Bella in Your Business. My name is Bella Vasta, and today I've got a pair of mastermind members with me. The reason they're here is because they are killing it. I know that we’re in the middle of all this COVID stuff and hearing things like “We’re not going to come out of this the same way we went in,” and “This is the new normal,” but truly, the gals I’m about to introduce you to—Nikki and Stephanie—have been doing it differently. They’ve really changed the focus of their business, and that actually started before all of this, but the situation catapulted them forward. They are the co-owners of Dog Jogs, a pet care company based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Their company believes that a tired dog is a happy dog and specializes in jogging dogs—not walking, but jogging. They also focus on providing effective and efficient solutions to customer service issues and ensuring complete client satisfaction. That’s what helps them continue to think outside the box and grow their business as they evolve and as changes arise. This year marks Dog Jogs’ fourth year in operation, with plans for many more to come. I wanted them on this podcast because there are a couple of things you need to realize about their story. First, they’ve only been around four years. Think about where you were in your fourth year or where you want to be in four years. Also, many of us focus on pet sitting when people travel or dog walking when people are at work, but these ladies go into people’s homes and run with dogs. Think about all the extra liability and questions that come with that. What they’ve done is remarkable, and that’s why I wanted to bring them here. Th
Episode 198: Baby Boomers Vs Millennials… Or Is It?
Baby Boomers Vs. Millennials...Or Is It? The generational gap between baby boomers and millennials is something that every business owner is bound to encounter.... perhaps you already have? But one generation doesn't have to be at war with the other. Each generation has unique and specific experiences that they can share with one another to improve themselves. In any case, get ready because you're about to get your hashtag Bella Butt Kickin' in this next episode of Bella in Your Business. So what do you say? Let's get ready and jump. Welcome to Bella in Your Business. My name is Bella Vasta, and today, all you boomers, I want you to listen up. This podcast episode is for you. I have Steve Dotto and his dog Farley joining us right now. Steve and I first met face to face—he doesn’t know this—but I already knew him well through his amazing YouTube channel. We actually sat across from each other and shared dinner with about forty other people at the Thinkific Dinner at Social Media Marketing World, one of the last conferences to happen in 2020. We had a great conversation, and I instantly loved his energy. I wanted to bring Steve to you because we often talk so much about millennials, Gen X, and Gen Z that we forget about baby boomers. There’s no one better to represent them than Steve. He’s made a name for himself on YouTube and elsewhere by helping people overcome their tech fears. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by software or new apps, Steve breaks it all down in an approachable way. So without further ado, welcome, Steve. He began by defining boomers as those born before 1960 or 1961. He was born in 1958, making him a true baby boomer. He refers to his generation as the “gray zone,” especially now during COVID when many have stopped coloring their hair. He laughed about how the gray zone is expanding. Discussing stereotypes about boomers, Steve explained that many view boomers as selfish, resistant to leave the workplace, and even as poor parents. But he wanted to challenge those assumptions. Back in 1965, the life expectancy for a man who retired at 65 was only four years—most men died around age 69. Today, it’s nearly 30 years longer, meaning people who retire at 65 could live another three decades. That changes everything. “We don’t want to retire and sit around,” Steve said. “We want to remain relevant, active, and contributing members of society.” Younger generations may feel frustrated that boomers won’t “move over,” but Steve says it’s not about denying opportunity—it’s about wanting to stay engaged. He pointed out that many baby boome

My name is Bella Vasta, and today I've got a really cool story for you. Have you ever wondered how you can get free publicity or free marketing in your area? I am joined today by Regina, and it has been so exciting to watch her. She is a stellar pet sitting business owner, dog walker extraordinaire, growing her business. We first met on Instagram about a year ago, and that's how we started our relationship. She has also been listening to this podcast, which is really cool, and she’s become a Better Marketing with Bella member as well. That’s where this story leads today because she truly messaged me earlier today with such good news, and it’s such a great story. You guys are in for a treat because this is something that every single one of you can do right now to get free publicity, marketing, and connections for your company. Without further ado, welcome to the show. Regina introduced herself as the owner of a pet sitting and dog walking business in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Her company focuses on the mind, body, and spirit of pets because, just like children, they need a well-rounded approach to care. She’s been in business since 2017 and recently entered her second semester with Better Marketing with Bella, calling it a game changer. Bella asked how Regina got into her ecosystem. Regina shared that it started with this podcast back in 2018. She had begun listening while out walking dogs because she wanted to learn and be inspired by business content relevant to her industry. She instantly loved the podcast and Bella’s personality, feeling like she’d finally found someone who truly understood the balance of being a “people person” and a “pet person.” She found Bella on Instagram and shared a story encouraging others to listen to her podcast. Bella reshared it, and Regina was thrilled—she felt seen. Bella said she always loves reposting when people tag
Episode 196: Resiliency, Black Swans, and Perseverance Through the Darkest Times
Resiliency, Black Swans, & Perseverance Through The Darkest Times We all have black swan events happen in our life. The Covid-19 Pandemic has definitely been an elephant-sized black swan event to the pet business. It has tested the resilience and patience of a larger number of Jumpers. Today I want to share a lesson on antifragility. Asha Olivia is the owner/operator of Hoby Dogy serving Hoboken, NJ ever since 2012 Asha is also a warrior. For example, she is a stage, four cancer survivor. Asha also counsels others with deep wisdom. This is wisdom won from a lifetime of going to battle. She works hard to improve every single day. Therefore, Asha has become a guiding light in this world as a result of her daily improvements. Welcome to Bella in Your Business. Today, I’ve got a very exciting guest for you. After she presented in our COVID support group about a month ago, she gave me goosebumps and everyone else that was there. I had to share her with all of my podcast listeners. Please welcome Asha Olivia. She’s here today from Hoboken, New Jersey, which I’ve actually visited. It’s a very small borough that overlooks Manhattan. For me, I can’t get more inspired than looking at New York City—it’s breathtaking. We’ve been in each other’s lives for quite some time, and I’ve seen her go through it, and she’s seen me go through it. The way she’s come through and reminded us all in the COVID support group—and will again today—is powerful. We’ve all had our COVID-19 already, and Asha likes to talk about this “black swan” moment in her life. Before we get into that, I asked her to explain who she is, tell us about her business, and a little about her backstory, which sprouted the realization she’s about to share. Asha thanked me for the invitation and said it was an honor to be on the podcast. She shared that she owns and operates Hobie Doggie, a dog walking an
Episode 195: The Scientific Way To Choose A Pet Sitting Software
The Scientific Way To Choose A Pet Sitting Software Choosing a pet sitting software is not an easy task. Maybe you're overwhelmed with all of the different options out there, or even tried them all but just can't decide. It's difficult to determine which features are important to YOU and then to match those needs up with software. In this episode of Bella In Your Business, I sit down with Kristin Young, where she shares her scientific process for successfully choosing a pet sitting software to use in your pet business. After 20 years in corporate real estate and business, Kristin "woke up" one day realizing she wanted more ownership over her own time and to escape the common cubicle. With two young kids and a supportive husband, she began the search for an income model that she could manage, grow, and LOVE. In January of 2019, she decided to buy NOT ONE, but TWO cat sitting companies, with the intent to merge them into a single business. With a passion for business, love of animals and affinity for cat puns, Kristin uses her inner "geek" to make data-driven decisions in her cat sitting business and create processes that allow her to start stepping out of day-to-day operations and spend more time working ON her business, instead of IN her business. Kristin Young Show Highlights [1:30] - Who is Kristin Young? [5:00] - What was the driving force behind switching pet sitting software companies? [7:00] - Can you describe what an "RFP" is? [9:15] - How did you come up with the methodology for RFP and choosing a pet sitting software company? [19:15] - How long did you try each pet sitting software for? Are you happy with your choice in software? What advice would you have for someone that is stuck trying to choose a pet sitting software? [23:00] - Where can you find Kristin online? Welcome to Bella in Your Business. My name is Bella Vasta and today I've got Kristen Young with me. You guys, I saw her post in one of my groups, one of the free groups I have, Jumpstart Your Pet Business. If you're not in there already, go ahead and jump on in there. But I saw her post about something really interesting, something that we don't often talk about on this podcast. So I wanted to bring her on to share her knowledge. Have you ever wanted to either get software or switch software but just seem to get completely paralyzed in all of the decision-making process that comes with it? Maybe you've trialed ten, fifteen, or twenty of them and you're still stalling out and it's been months and months. Well, today we're going to blow the lid off of it, and Kristen’s going to give you some awesome tips on how to actually choose a pet sitting software and bring you through her, what I call, scientific process. Before we get started, I want you to know who Kristen is. After twenty years in corporate real estate, Kristen woke up one day realizing she wanted more ownership over her time and to escape what I call “cubicle jail.” With two young kids and a supportive husband, she began searching for an income model she could manage, grow, and love. With a passion for business, a love for animals, and an affinity for cat puns, Kristen used her inner geek to make data-driven decisions and create processes that allowed her to start stepping out of day-to-day operations and spend more time working on her business than in it. After that kind of intro, y
Episode 194: How To Prevent Your Website Content From Being Snatched
How To Prevent Your Website Content From Being Snatched Have you ever had your website content snatched? I've had a lot of pet business owners come to me about how other pet businesses STOLE their website content including services and blog posts! What would you do? Could you prove the content was yours? What images have you used? Who would you speak to? This episode was born with my two expert cohosts so that nobody EVER has to go through that. Today, we have Liz Illg, expert wordsmith, who helps business owners with internal and external messaging. She helps businesses really convey their differentiating factors to their audience. We also have Erika Godwin, website guru, who understands the technical/SEO aspect of creating a rocking website. Sick of doing your own graphics? Want us to do them for you? Space is limited. Show Highlights [2:00] - Who is Bella Vasta, Liz Illg, and Erika Godwin? [5:10] - How do we prevent our website content from being snatched? [12:00] - What is your website actually DOING for you? [20:00] - What does it mean to properly label images on your website? [28:00] - How can you get in contact with Liz & Erika? In any case, get ready because you're about to get your hashtag Bella Butt Kickin' in this next episode of Bella in Your Business. So what do you say? Let's get ready and jump. Welcome everybody. My name is Bella Vasta and I am here with Liz Illig. We were supposed to have one more amazing dynamic person join us, but for some reason, as Kim Welker said, technology—ha ha—you totally nailed it. That's the thing with technology, and for some reason, Erica is seeing a blank screen. So, Erica, I know that you're probably watching and listening. We're going to have you comment in the chat. We love you, we miss you, and we hope you are here, but for some reason, the tech is not working. That's okay. The show must go on, and we are so excited that you guys are here. Listen, today we’re going to talk about something super important. The reason why I wanted these two ladies on with me is because I know that at some point you’ve had your website snatched, your content stolen, or your Facebook graphics taken and reposted with someone else’s logo. And yes, some of you might even be guilty of this too! So today we want to blow the lid off this topic because of how amazing the three of us work together. I help people with strategy—what makes you different and how to communicate that. Then they often get stuck figuring out how to say it on their website. That’s where Liz comes in—she’s an incredible wordsmith. And finally, there’s Erica, the website pro. The problem is that people often go straight to Erica expecting her to do everything, and it doesn’t work that way. So we’re here to break that down. Liz introduced herself, saying she runs Liz Illig Consulting and specializes in internal and external communications—helping people tell their team and audience what they need to know. Internally, that means SOPs, training, and hiring; externally, it’s all about branding and how you show up online. She also owns five pet grooming locations in the Phoenix area, soon to be seven years strong, and uses her experience to teach branding and communication strategies. We also introduced Erica, owner of Barketing Blog, who creates beautiful and cost-effective websites and maintenance plans for pet sitting and dog walking businesses. Her templates are gorgeous, but one common problem clients face is not knowing what to say or how to say it—resulting in “word vomit” across their websites. That’s why we brought these ladies together. Liz explained that one major reason people’s content gets stolen is be
Episode 193: How To Utilize Video For Your Dog Walking Business
How To Utilize Video For Your Dog Walking Business If you've been following me for a while, you know that I've been squawking about the use of video for your dog walking business for YEARS. Video is the present and it is seriously skyrocketing - especially right now with everybody being home. If you haven't gotten in yet on the video game, believe me when I say you need to! In this episode, I am going to teach you exactly how. Biggest Takeaway You Don't Want To Miss Video connects you to your audience. You don’t have to do it every day, and you don’t have to do it for hours, but I would challenge you to try to do it at least once a week for one or two weeks. It will make a world of a difference. If your clients are browsing and see your videos, chances are they will feel a deeper connection with you. Not because you are perfect on camera, but because you are showing vulnerability by BEING on camera. It shows that you are human. That ALONE goes a long way - especially when the people who are searching on your social are trying to decide if they can trust you. Show Highlights [2:45] - What types of video apps are out there? Welcome to another episode of Bella in Your Business. My name is Bella Vasta, your host, and today I'm going to talk all about ultimate apps and ways to use video in your dog walking business. But first, I want to give a big shout-out to Asha Olivia with Hopi Dogi in Hoboken, New Jersey. She has listened to every single episode of Bella in Your Business, and I am just so elated and honored that she’s let us take up her headspace for that many episodes. I also want to celebrate the fact that we are almost at 92,000 downloads, so just a big thank you to all the listeners. If you do like this podcast, I would love it if you would share it with your friends. Go ahead and give us a shout-out on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, wherever you are, to any of your other pet sitting friends—maybe in Facebook groups that you're in. But now let's get into the show. We are in the thick of things here with all the COVID-19 stuff going on, and I thought that this might be a very timely episode to kind of take a little bit of a break from talking about COVID but also use it as an example as well. Most of the time when my clients think about going in front of the video camera, it literally scares the heck out of them. But I've been squawking about the use of video for years, and all the predictions that I've made have only proven to be true—the fact that video says it better, that you can be more effective on video, and that people can get to know you and even fall in love with you. Video is the present. It is what’s going on right now, and it is skyrocketing with everyone being home. If you have not gotten in the video game, you need to. Today I'm going to show you all the different ways you can if you’re one of those people that are either too afraid to be a “talking head” (basically a video of your head talk

Listen up jumpers, Bella here. Today I've got a really cool offer for you. I'm about to tell you about the Facebook Live that Liz Illig and I did last week, and I wanted to put it on the podcast because I wanted to make sure that you knew we have a free seven-day challenge group. It just opened up yesterday, Wednesday, April 22, and it's going to run for seven straight days. We have packed this group full of videos, checklists, and all kinds of free stuff to get your juices flowing and give you a win every single day. And did I mention it’s free? We want to really help catapult and jumpstart your business back into action because we all got into COVID together, we're all going through it together, and we sure as heck are going to come through it together. That’s jumpconsulting.net/challenge. I hope to see you in there and enjoy this episode. Liz and I talk almost on a daily basis, and a lot of you were in a co-support group where we had twelve different experts come in, with show notes and everything, and we really tried to figure out how we were going to handle this shutdown. But throughout the shutdown, we knew that what goes down must come up. Liz and I have been doing a lot of talking and conspiring about all of the questions you’ve been asking us. So what did we decide to do? Liz explained that we’ve been thinking about how to prepare everyone so that you’re ready to relaunch your businesses again. That’s why we wanted to create something to give you so many free resources and guidance about how to actually do this in the pet space. Everything is free—you’ll show up when you want to, take the information when you’re ready, and have everything you need to blast off. We decided to open up a seven-day challenge—seven days chock full of content. Behind the scenes, we’ve been meeting on Zoom since we can’t meet in person because of COVID, and we’ve created a massive outline. Each day features short videos from Liz, me, or sometimes even our partners like Erica Godwin from Marketing Solutions. We’re all coming together to really help elevate the industry and get you excited because the country—and the world—will start opening in phases, and we want you to be ready. When we say ready, we don’t m

Welcome, everybody. I am so excited to be here with you today. I have got two amazing women that I’m going to be bringing to you, but first I want you to know the backstory. I met these ladies through a mutual contact—one of those “any friend of theirs is a friend of yours” kind of situations. They came into the COVID support group we did two weeks ago, and their session ended up being the most popular one we had. I started feeling bad that only those 200+ people got to see it, so I wanted to bring it here to all of you. Since then, everything has been changing—people are getting funded, others are facing new challenges, and there are so many questions. So, I want to introduce you to my now two friends, Jessica Mayhafer and Marilyn Parham, CPA, the co-founders of Profit Hero. If that name sounds familiar, it should—it follows the same mentality as Mike Michalowicz, who was on my podcast. Today we’re going to talk about how to recession-proof your small business during COVID. The Bottom Line CPA is an award-winning, 100% zero-cloud accounting practice that serves industry leaders in Amazon, FBA, e-commerce, and online business. Founded in 1996 and launched into the online world in 2013, this is not their first rodeo. They quickly became certified profit pros behind many elite brands and are also home to Profit Hero, which you’ll hear about today. They come alongside business owners to help them manage not just the numbers, but the decisions behind them. Because you can’t make financial decisions unless you understand your own situation first. So, without further ado, welcome, ladies. They thanked me and mentioned that it’s been a whirlwind week—definitely an adventure. There’s a lot to unpack today, and we’ve done a lot of prep to make sure we over-deliver in value. The first thing I asked was, what does it mean to secure our financial foundation? Because for many, it feels like that foundation has just been blown away. They explained that there are three key things to understand when making financial decisions: 1) secure your financial foundation, 2) know your financial facts, and 3

My name is Bella Vasta and today I've got a triumphant story for you. My good friend Nick Trevillion is meeting me here finally. You guys, this has been in the making for about seven months. This guy is so sought after, it is impossible to get on his schedule, but you're gonna understand exactly why I fought so hard by the end of this episode. Nick and I met about a decade ago and we have stayed in each other's lives—sometimes loosely, sometimes more closely—but he has always been a person I admired. If you’ve ever read Dan Kennedy’s No BS Marketing to the Affluent or The E-Myth Revisited, this is the kind of stuff that Nick introduced me to when I was getting into self-development. Nick has an awesome podcast and website, and so much going on. He’s been in real estate for 15 years and saw very early on what was possible through mentorship. When he was a teenager, he watched his best friend’s father go from a broke plumber to a multimillionaire in 36 months through sales and real estate. That shaped his conversations around time freedom and entrepreneurship. At 19, during the 2005 boom in Phoenix, Arizona, Nick jumped into real estate and opened his first brokerage by his 21st birthday. Since then, he’s focused on coaching real estate agents, helping them break through and think like entrepreneurs. But everything changed two years ago. Two days before Christmas, after months of pain and numbness in his legs, Nick collapsed at lunch and lost all feeling from the belly button down. He was 32 years old, healthy and active. After tests, doctors found a tumor growing in the middle of his spine that wrapped around his spinal column. He underwent a seven-and-a-half-hour surgery and spent 11 days in the ICU, being woken up every hour on the hour. During those long nights staring at the ceiling, he analyzed his life—what he had done right, what he had done wrong, and where he was going. He made a commitment to help as many people as possible break through in their lives. What he didn’t know then was that he would also face rock bottom mentally—dealing with anxiety, depression, and addiction. Physically, mentally, and financia

In any case, get ready because you're about to get your hashtag Bella Butt Kickin' in this next episode of Bella in Your Business. So what do you say? Let's get ready and jump. Hey everyone, we are in interesting times. It is currently April 2020 and COVID-19 has hit the entire world as a pandemic. We are all going through things at different stages, and I kind of wanted to talk about how to make COVID-19 stop messing with your head. Today, I'm not going to just rave rashash kumbaya. I'm going to give you some actual advice of what you can do. And I'm going to actually follow it up with how to know if you're an essential business, because that's also something that's really important on people's minds right now. I hope that this podcast inspires you. We are approaching 90,000 downloads, and I'm just so ridiculously excited for that. I would love to know your feedback about this podcast too, so feel free to reach out to me always at [email protected]. So guys, how are you really doing? Like really, really? I can't imagine that you're having the best time of your life right now. I've been talking to countless business owners around the world the past three or four weeks, and I've realized a few things—things that I want to talk about today. I'm not doing this for ratings or downloads or any algorithm. Even the title of this isn’t sexy or catchy, but this is really just from my heart to yours, no holds barred. I know so many people are dealing with different things—sobriety, depression, loneliness, anger, worry, or fear of passing a child back and forth in this climate. Maybe you were on the verge of breaking up with your spouse and now you’re stuck at home together for endless weeks. I cannot imagine the stress that might be going on in your household or your life. It's really easy to be swallowed up by it and let it knock you down and leave you there. I mean, why not? Everyone else is taking a time out, right? It's like we’re all in kindergarten and told to go sit in the corner. Tomorrow we can do it, right? Wrong. I can’t stress how important it is that right now you be more on your A-game than ever before. This is an opportunity, and only the strong will take advantage of it and survive long-term. What you choose to do every day right now will drastically affect you in the summer and fall. In order to rev up for this kind of fight, there are a few things we need to get control over first—and these things are deciding factors in successful entrepreneurs. Let’s first talk about routines. I’ve talked about this before, but right now, we have micro-routines. We’v
Episode 188: Things To Consider Before You Close Your Business (Temporarily)
Lately, I've been having A LOT of conversations with pet business owners about whether or not they should close their businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. I want to be clear - I am NOT advocating that you should close your business temporarily or permanently one way or the other. My purpose here to provide all of the different angles you should consider in order to make the best choice for you, your business, your staff, and your clients. At the end of the day, every business is different. We all have unique situations, circumstances, and experiences that make us all different in our own ways. It is not our place to judge someone else's business and tell them they need to close or not close. We are all in this together, and we need to support each other now more than ever. Show Highlights [2:25] - Consider your area. Different parts of the country (and the world) are undergoing different levels of isolation and social distancing. Check with your local governments for guidance as to how your business operations fit into the current climate. Pay extra special attention if your local area has a "shelter-in-place" directive. [5:00] - Consider the effect on your staff. There are a few different options businesses have in regards to dealing with staff. You can furlough them, lay them off, or continue business as usual. As with everything, there are pros and cons to each route. [6:45] - Consider the type of messaging coming from your business. Internal and external messaging is critical. The worst thing you can do as a business right now is not to stand up as a thought leader. Keep your audience informed and keep it honest. And please, do not say you are closing up shop without making it clear that it's a temporary closure. [10:00] - If you have to close your business during COVID... do not give up. This is the time to feed your mind so that when the world goes back to normal, we can come back bigger and better than ever. In any case, get ready because you're about to get your hashtag Bella Butt Kickin' in this next episode of Bella in Your Business. So what do you say? Let's get ready and jump. I want to talk to you about some things that I think you should consider before temporarily closing your business. Now, I want to be really clear here. I am not encouraging you to close your business. I'm not encouraging you not to close your business. I've just been having so many conversations with people all this week, both on the phone and in Messenger, and I really want to share some really good information. Stay tuned, because I’ll be giving you a link to a group—it’s jumpconsulting.net/survival—where you can get more information like this from financial experts, lawyers, HR consultants, systems people, and more. If you haven’t joined that group already, please do. You can help me share this too—it’s going to be a very important one. I really want to make sure everybody can see this, hear this, and tune in. We're going to talk a lot about what we need to consider, and I’ve got four things here: your area, your staff, your messaging, and closure. Your area—everybody is different, so I don’t want any shaming or judgment toward anyone who says they need to close or stay open. I’m starting to see a lot of caddiness online, and that’s not our duty. Stop it right now, because it’s not your business, your livelihood, or your place to judge. Some areas, like the Northeast, Chicago, Silicon Valley, and Seattle, are being hit hard. They’re not going to be the same as smaller, less dense areas in the middle of the country. Be careful about making judgment calls because everyone’s circumstances are different. Also consider whether there’s a shelter-in-place order in your city. Shelter-in-place means staying home except for essential needs—pharmacy, grocery, hardware, or medical. If you have a shelter-in-place order, it changes the whole situation for your business. A few weeks ago in the mastermind, we asked our HR cons

Liz Illig is also here in Arizona. She is a systems and processes expert, and down here is the amazing Erica Godwin from Marketing Solutions. Together, we love just working together because we're kind of like three peas in a pod. Last night, while I was feeding my daughter and fielding messages from you guys about what should I do about my cancellation policy and the coronavirus, what should I do to keep my staff healthy, and my gosh, a lot of my clients are canceling, I said, “You know what? I'm tired of answering you individually. We're going to go live because this is a big enough topic.” I also just got back from San Diego from the world’s largest social media conference, Social Media Marketing World. You should totally go check it out and try to be there next year, by the way. But aside from that, a lot of speakers are getting canceled. A lot of their livelihood is getting canceled because things are being canceled into the summer right now, since we just don't know how this virus is going to affect the entire world. I know that all of us are in little small communities and there's a lot of hype going on, but I think the biggest undertone in this is that you have to figure out what's going on with you locally. I wanted to bring these ladies o
Episode 186: 6 Ways To Create ALL The Graphics You Need for The Next 90 Days
6 Ways To Create ALL The Graphics You Need For The Next 90 Days If you're feeling overwhelmed with content creation for your pet business, just know that you're not alone! By planning your content ahead, you can actually save yourself tons of time, which means more time to spend on our beloved two-legged and four-legged clients! Today, we're going to discuss how you can be a content creation rockstar by planning your content three months ahead (yes, you read that right!), also known as batching. Batching is essentially taking time – with little to no distractions – to concentrate on completing “batches” of work in one sitting. It sounds scary, but you'll have to trust that this technique really works. We'll talk about all this in more in this week's episode of Bella In Your Business. Biggest Take Away You Don't Want To Miss Content creation for your pet business is all about planning and relevancy. While planning your content ahead is critical, we want to make sure that we are not planning content that isn't going to help grow our business. It's easy to get into the mindset of creating content akin to "Hire us for pet sitting" and "Hire us for dog walking," but these types of images are not going to create the effect that you want. It's important to get creative, be relevant to your audience, and share stories to really build that connection. Show Highlights How to create content based off looking at your calendar [2:30] Creating content to do with promotions/launches [3:00] How to decide which social media platform to focus on [4:00] What is a brand guide and how do you create one? [5:00] What types of graphics should you consider creating? [6:00] Sick of doing your own graphics? Want us to do them for you? Space is limited. Hey there, Bella Vasta here, and today we're going to talk about six ways to plan and create your graphics for the next three months. How great would it be to just get all of your graphics done so that you don't ever have to sit there and try to figure that out? Now, I'm not necessarily talking about the engagement part or writing the copy for it or scheduling it. I'm just talking about creating the actual graphics. Because at the end of the day, we need to create graphics, right? We want to be seen on Facebook. If you're feeling overwhelmed with content creation and want to spend more time with clients and their beloved four-legged friends, planning and creating your graphics ahead of time can help. While jumping in and creating three months' worth of content may sound harrowing, it'll save you plenty of time in the end. Trust me. This practice is becoming increasingly more common in marketing and is known as batching. Batching is essentially taking time with little to no distractions to concentrate on completing batches of work in one sitting. You can actually do this with a whole lot of stuff. Of course, you could take breaks, but the key here is to complete a bunch of work ahead of time so that you don't have to consistently worry about it. You'll be able to focus more of your attention on bigger ideas. When it comes to planning and creating graphics for your pet business, a big problem for many is that it becomes a daily bug. To k

Welcome to Bella in Your Business. My name is Bella Vasta and today I've got Nate Palmer with me. You guys are going to want to listen up because we have not ever had anyone really talk the way or about how Nate does. Nate and I first met—actually, we haven't even met in person yet. It's been completely virtual. Even though we live in the same city, we need to rectify that, Nate. I heard him on my friend Nick Trevillian's podcast, who also still needs to be on this podcast. I was so excited by it, and then I was even more excited when Nick said that Nate lives here in Phoenix. So I reached out to him and had to get him in the mastermind. We did a really big deep dive on what your morning routine should be and how to start it. If you've been following my IG, you've seen some of the awesome quotes that Nate just throws out—value bombs the whole entire show. Things like, “We all start at suck,” which was awesome. Episode 184: Quality Over Quantity Of Your Social Media Content
Quality Over Quantity Of Your Social Media Content It's no shock that being on Social Media is a must for Pet Sitting and Dog Walking businesses. But, what platforms are best for us? How should we be using them? And what kind of content should we be creating? To share his 15 years plus years of digital marketing experience, I've brought on Dan Willis. Dan Willis brings insights into the power of relationship marketing, video content and the emerging millennial/gen. Z marketplace leading your brand to learn how to not only succeed today but how to build success for the future. Biggest Take Away You Don't Want To Miss Don't spread yourself thin trying to be active on all social media platforms when the biggest platforms for dog walkers and pet sitters are Facebook and Instagram. Create content that best expresses your brand, use video, and don't get discouraged if you don't get a bunch of interaction on any given post. As Dan said, if you can create content that inspires one person to appreciate what you’re doing, that content was of value. Don't just produce a large quantity of content but make sure you're placing quality over quantity for your social media content. I can honestly say he's a pretty impressive person, which is why I wanted to bring him to you. I'm not even going to ask you how many pets you have, Dan. I want to start out with how many kids you have. Tell our listeners. “Yeah, we’ve got eight now. Eight kids kicking around the joint.” And tell everyone how old you are right now. “Thirty-four.” My goodness. That is such a blessing and accomplishment in life, period, without being the millennial motivator. Dan is located up in Ontario, Canada, and he has fifteen years of digital marketing experience on three continents in multiple languages. The advice that he shares comes from practical experience consulting major brands like Fox TV, Toyota, and H&M. With insights into the power of relationship marketing, video content, and the emerging millennial Gen Z marketplace, your brand will learn how to not only succeed today but also how to build success for the future. So this whole millennial thing is a big buzz these days. What does that actually mean? Dan said, “For me, I just take it as anybody that's not a boomer. So if you’re in the industry, if you’re in the workplace and you’re not playing on TikTok and you’re not looking at retirement, congratulations, you fall into my category.” That’s an awesome way to describe it. So if our listeners right now are saying, “What the heck is TikTok?” Don’t you worry, we’re not going to tell you a new platform you need to be on. So let’s start out with how many pets you have because I know that’s also an interest. “Yeah, I mean, we’re starting to dwindle down here. We do pet rescue for the most part, and the ones that we love, we keep. So we did have three dogs, we’re down to two, and we were able to rehome one, which is fantastic. Unfortunately, our two cats got claimed by farm equipment, so we’r

Welcome to another episode of Bella in Your Business. My name is Bella Vasta. Today we are actually going to continue on the same theme that we came off of last week with Danielle Glickman. This week we're actually going to talk a lot about video again, except why you should do video training in your pet sitting company. However, before we start, I want to encourage you all—if you have not yet—to subscribe to this podcast. This podcast is exploding right now, and I just get so excited every Sunday when I get the stats. Do you know that we're over 83,000 downloads on this podcast? I am blown away and so grateful for your support. So if you have not already subscribed, that would be wonderful. You can do it on just about any device that you listen to podcasts on. And if you really like it, go ahead and share it with your friends or into any other groups. I'd also like to give a shout-out to a review that we got on January 13th. I love them. I read them all the time. It was from Make Millions. They said, “I love listening to Bella's podcast and learn new things each episode, even after having a pet care company for over 21 years. Thanks for all the great information, tips, and guests, Bella. Keep jumping.” You guys, I love that so much. All right, so let's get started today. We are going to talk about how you can do video training in your pet company. Now I know that we have been talking about video for years because video is very effective. In fact, it's not just effective in marketing and stopping the scroll on Instagram or Facebook or wherever you might be, but YouTube is absolutely exploding right now. So is the way that we consume information. Even my senior father, when he wants to learn things now, no longer goes to the old house book that he used to have in his library or looks it up on Google. He literally goes directly to YouTube to learn. And that's what's happening. My five-year-old goes to YouTube and watches videos. If she sees whales, she goes to YouTube and presses the button for the microphone and says “whale videos,” and a whole bunch of whale videos come up. You guys, everyone from five-year-olds to 65-year-olds are on YouTube. They are watching videos. They are learning via videos. So it only makes sense that we start—I want to plant the seed in your head—that your company can and will have video training at some point. Now I know that the barriers to entry are pretty big. To do it right, you need to make an investment. It could be you just being a talking head, or you could actually have a film crew. There are lots of ways to do it, but I want to get you

Welcome to Bella in Your Business. My name is Bella Vasta and today I've got one of my friends with me. You guys, that's kind of what happens when you're out networking and going to conferences—you just get to know people. And I know that Daniel Glickman is my friend because he gave me this cute little bobblehead in Lima, Ohio, because he said it reminded him of me, which was really cute. Daniel said he was super excited to finally be on, as they had to reschedule a few times but persistence prevailed. He shared that he was born and raised in Israel to an American mom who grew up in Canada and an Israeli dad. After completing his master’s degree, he moved to Canada and started a PhD but eventually quit to start a small business. That’s when he really connected with the challenges of small businesses—handling marketing, customer experience, and sales. Later, he transitioned into the tech world and now works with Wave.video, which he loves for its culture, people, and product. I mentioned how much I appreciate Daniel’s relational and approachable style. Many software companies feel cold or complicated, but Wave.vi

Welcome to Bella in Your Business. My name is Bella Vasta, and today I've got Tiffany Lewis, who founded Pet and Home Care in Potomac, Maryland in 1999 as a one-person pet sitting business. Today, she’s expanded her business to offer a whole team of dog walkers, pet sitters, pet care experts, and home care services with over 30 employees. Tiffany started her business as a teenager to make some extra money. She picked up more and more customers, and soon she was staying really busy pet sitting. Having always loved animals, she originally wanted to be a vet but realized she couldn’t handle putting pets down. Pet care was more fun—the dogs were happy to see her—and the business kept growing. She began hiring friends and family, and it just exploded. It wasn’t always easy, though. Tiffany faced staffing problems and financial struggles before getting organized and using better software. She reached burnout, walking up to 25 dogs a day, but she kept her head up and kept improving. Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, she had a lot of advice and support and knew this was her passion. There was nothing else she’d rather do, so she pushed through and made it work. Eventually, she decided to manage her business remotely. Ten years ago, it began as short vacations—two days at Dewey Beach, Delaware—which turned into full summers there, then winters in Florida, and finally, a full move to California six years ago. Now, she manages her business from across the country. It’s tricky with time zones, but it actually works to her advantage. Her Maryland managers cover the early hours, while she handles late-night communications from California. It took time and patience to get there, but now it runs smoothly. The transition wasn’t easy. Tiffany had to create new infrastructure and face challenges along the way. Early on, there was little to no technology to support remote management, and it was messy. But switching to cloud-based software in 2014 was the turning point—it made life easier and helped the business boom. The new software allowed clients and pet sitters to have portals, enabled one-click credit card payments, and eliminated the need for a full-time billing person. With emai

Welcome to Bella in Your Business. Today, I've got two guests with me, Andrew and Pete, who are already dancing around if you're watching the video. Andrew and Pete are based in the UK, and I’m grateful they’re wrapping up their long workday to chat with me—it’s 8 a.m. here but already late afternoon over there. If you don’t know Andrew and Pete yet, you’ll want to check them out. They’re not only international keynote speakers, authors, and YouTubers who keep things funny and engaging, but also a multi-award-winning business duo helping small business owners scale so they can stop swapping time for money. I first heard Andrew and Pete in person when they keynoted at Social Media Marketing World, and it was one of the most entertaining and insightful sessions I attended. Their energy, humor, and simple yet powerful delivery stood out, and I can’t wait for you to hear them today. Andrew and Pete shared that they met at university, where they were randomly placed in the same halls of residence and became friends. After graduation, while their peers took corporate jobs, the two decided to pursue their passion for entrepreneurship. They ran their university’s Entrepreneur Society and were deeply interested in business, marketing, and startups. They realized that before getting tied down with mortgages or families, it was the perfect time to start a business. Andrew moved to Newcastle, invited Pete to join him, and at 21, they started their company together. Nine years later, their partnership is thriving. They created Atomic, a membership platform designed to help small business owners scale and grow. Many entrepreneurs jump straight into marketing tactics—like building funnels, creating content, or learning sales strategies—but fail to act because they lack time, focus, or confidence. Atomic addresses those underlying challenges. It helps people make data-driven decisions, reclaim their time, and focus on what will create the biggest impact. Welcome to another episode of Bella in Your Business. My name is Bella Vasta, and today I’m going to give you some of my 2020 predictions for your pet business. My nose has been to the ground and my tail’s been up because I’ve been paying close attention to trends. I get a unique look into our industry as I work with business owners all over the world at every stage. I hear what keeps you awake at night, see where people are moving forward fast, and where others get stuck. Each year, I release an epic post on what’s changing in the pet industry and how to plan for the year ahead. Last year, I wrote The State of the Pet Industry in 2019 and shared key trends like the shift from baby boomer to millennial consumers, the rise in pet sitting and dog walking businesses for sale, Rover and Wag’s growing presence, increasing regulations, rapid industry growth, and the ongoing dominance of software tools. If you revisit those predictions, you’ll see they’re still relevant. Those who embraced them have grown significantly—some skyrocketing from zero to six figures in months—while others are still struggling after years. It’s all about the person driving the ship. Let’s talk about more educated business investments. I recently advised a couple against buying a $500,000 pet business because all workers were non-compliant independent contractors. After explaining the risks, they agreed. They didn’t want to gamble their investment. Around 90% of businesses using ICs are out of compliance. If you’re growing and scaling, please make sure you’re compliant—meaning, you have employees. A great resource is the Pet Industry Coalition, a group of pet business owners helping others meet employment laws that are increasingly being enforced. Next, let’s discuss using Rover to your advantage. Last year, I said they’re here to stay, and they are. They keep raising money and aren’t slowing down. Stop complaining that they’re stealing your staff or clients—if that’s happening, you’re doing something wrong. Rover succeeds because of their user experience, not necessarily because of superior service. As customer service expert Dan Gingiss shared in our mastermind, people choose Rover because it’s easy to use. So ask yourself—how easy is your website to navigate? Does it make signing up effortless? Is it about you or your client? Redoing your website can be hard, so consider hiring a copywriter who understands psychology and storytellin
Episode 178: How to Get Your Pet Business in the Media
We talk a lot about social media presence and making your business known on the media. However, we don't often get the chance to talk about how to get your pet business in the media such as newspapers, magazines or even on TV. To teach us how to get in the media I've brought on Rachel Spencer, a journalist, and blogger for the Pet Industry who helps pet businesses create content and promote their work in the media. Biggest Take Away You Don't Want To Miss When pet businesses are everywhere and companies like Rover and Wag are soaring with popularity, getting your business out there and validated as credible, has never been more important. If someone is searching for a dog walker or pet sitter, you want to be the business that comes up on google. A good way to guarantee you show up first is by having media coverage. Welcome to Bella in Your Business. My name is Bella Vasta, and today I went over the pond to get an expert for you guys. You're in for a delight because this is something that we talked about maybe once, two years ago, but never again since then and never again with someone in the industry. How amazing would it be to actually have your local news or your newspapers or bloggers talking about your business for free? Like, you didn't hire them to do it—they just start reaching out to you because you're so interesting. Well, today's guest, Rachel Spencer, is here to teach you how to do that. She's a journalist and a blogger who writes about the pet industry and helps pet businesses create content and promote their work in the media. Rachel shared that she’s been a freelance journalist for over 20 years, working for national newspapers and women’s magazines in England. About ten years ago, she got her dog Daisy, which changed everything. She used to cover general topics and news, but Daisy led her to start writing more about the pet industry. Over time, 90% of her work became pet-related. She launched her blog, The Paw Post (thepawpost.co.uk), where she shares stories about inspiring animals, trends, and products like dog parkour and dog reiki. Pet brands and professionals began reaching out to her for help getting media coverage, so she wrote Publicity Tips for Pet Businesses and now offers consultancy and writing training for pet brands. When asked how media coverage can help a pet business, Rachel explained that it builds credibility and trust. When potential clients see your business featured in a reputable publication, it positions you as an expert and sets you apart from competitors. For example, if someone searches for dog walkers in a town and your name appears in the local newspaper, that makes a strong impression. She said that journalists are always looking for stories, and getting coverage is often easier than people think—it’s about understanding what journalists want, where to find them, and what kind of stories to share. Rachel gave great examples of what journalists love: heartwarming or unique stories. One dog groomer she feat
Episode 177: Staying Compliant with Staff In Your Pet Business – The Best Kept Resource!
Today I want to share with you the best-kept resource in staying compliant with staff in your pet business. The Pet Industry Coalition is an organization dedicated to educating and advocating for the regulation and compliance of the Pet Industry. To tell you all about it, I've brought on two of the four co-founders, Lauren Cora and Katie Pape. Lauren is the owner of Dogs Deserve It, a dog walking company based out of Chicago, IL. Dogs Deserve It recently celebrated 10 years of service and has over 55 employees. Similarly, Katie's business Windy City Paws, is located in Chicago and has been in business for 10 years now. Katie has over 75 employees. Biggest Take Away You Don't Want To Miss With the pet industry being a rather unregulated business, staying compliant with staff in your pet business can be difficult. Thus, the Pet Industry Coalition was developed. Through the coalition they work to ensure businesses are aware of the differences between independent contractors and employees, as well as, the consequences of misclassifying staff. My name is Bella Vasta with Jump Consulting, and today I've got the most dynamic team that you probably have never heard of. I didn’t, and I had to have them on the show because they do something that is near and dear to my heart. They co-founded the Pet Industry Coalition—Katie Pape and Lauren Coppa—who are here today to explain to us what the Pet Industry Coalition actually is and how it can help you. If you have staff, listen up because this is going to be an episode for you. Katie introduced herself as the owner of Windy City Paws, a local dog walking and pet sitting company in Chicago, Illinois. They’ve been in business for 10 years and have about 75 staff members—all employees. Lauren followed, sharing that she owns Dogs Deserve It, also in Chicago, celebrating their 10-year anniversary with 55 dog walkers employed throughout the Chicagoland area. Combined, their teams represent over 100 employees, making their shared experience powerful and relevant. The two met at a seminar Lauren hosted, aimed at educating other dog walking companies about the difference between having 1099 contractors versus employees. Katie attended and was impressed by Lauren’s professionalism. They began working together in a mastermind group with other local pet care professionals and eventually developed the idea for the Pet Industry Coalition. They now collaborate with two other Chicago-based owners, David Blakeman of Field Day’s Dog Walking and Dana DeBrovny of Chicago Pet Sitters. Katie explained that, at first, she was hesitant to collaborate with competitors, but she learned that there’s enough business for everyone and that collaboration leads to growth. By connecting with others, she found the support she didn’t realize she needed as a business owner. Lauren agreed, emphasizing that cooperation rather than competition has been key to their success. The Pet Industry Coalition began as a response to widespread confusion and misclassification of workers in the pet care industry. They wanted to educate and advocate for compliance with employment laws, particularly regarding independent contractors (ICs) versus employees. In Chicago—and increasingly across
Episode 176: Planning for Your Dog Walking Business in 2020
I know with being six days away from Christmas that planning for your dog walking business in 2020 is probably the last thing on your mind. However, I strategically posted this before Christmas so that you have time to get your thoughts flowing. I want to help you come up with a plan to grow and exceed your expectations for business planning in 2020. Biggest Take Away You Don't Want To Miss There's a major difference between planning for your dog walking business and goal setting. Where making plans can include a to do list that never stops growing, setting goals are concrete, quantifiable and specific. When you set a goal you need to give yourself an end date and start breaking down the processes necessary to get there. Most importantly, you need to hold yourself accountable or get an accountability partner that can. Hi there, I'm Bella Vasta from Jump Consulting. In any case, get ready because you're about to get your hashtag Bella Butt Kickin' in this next episode of Bella in Your Business. So what do you say? Let's get ready and jump. I know that with six days away from the actual Christmas holiday, business planning for your dog walking or pet sitting company in 2020 is probably the last thing on your mind. But I have strategically placed this episode right before Christmas because I know the next round of marketing that’s going to be hitting your eyeballs is all about New Year’s resolutions and planning for 2020. So what do you say that I get your thoughts flowing on a couple of topics here and let you know how I do things, how I suggest you could do things, and some other different ways that you might not have heard about. There are so many different things that you have to think about with your business and planning because, let’s face it, if you don’t actually plan for your business, what happens is you start becoming very reactionary. You just start reacting to things that happen—crises, interruptions, and questions from your team—and you end up responding to everything instead of intentionally leading. We have marketing and sales, staff and clients, advertising, growing lists, keeping staff and clients happy, learning about social media changes, networking locally, managing invoices, cancellations, schedules, balancing your books, and tracking your business’s financial health. There are so many things we have to juggle. And at the end of the day, most of us want to grow. I haven’t met a single pet sitter or dog walker who’s said they want to downsize. But how do we grow, and what does that really mean? It makes me sad to see so many business owners whose companies are running them over. They’re flattened by the workload and barely keeping up. With 2020 coming, we have a clean slate—a chance to reset. But if you’re bringing the same mindset you had in 2019 and haven’t achieved your goals, this episode is for you. Let’s talk about different ways to plan and the difference between planning and goal setting. When you plan, you’re focused on to-do lists—tasks to check off today, this week, or this month. But those tasks often multiply and don’t always connect to the bigger picture. They don’t help you build the life you wanted when you started your business. That’s why goal setting is so important. I’m a huge fan of 90-day goals. Research shows that our brains can better comprehend and stay motivated by shorter timeframes—like 90 days—rather than abstract one-year or five-year plans. So start thinking in quarterly increments: first, second, third, and fourth quarters. Goals should be measurable—you’ve either achieved them or not by a specific date. For example, instead of vaguely saying, “I want to hire employees,” say, “By March 1st, I’ll have three employees doing 100% of the pet visits so I have nothing left on my schedule.” That’s concrete. Then break those 90-day goals down into 30-day milestones. Maybe month one is setting up your employee handbook and training program. Month two could be interviews and onboarding. Month three could be training and full handoff. The key is to have a plan—not just wishful
Episode 175: How Your Pet Business Systems Save Your Profit
I want you to think of all of your pet business systems. Now, think about a time where maybe you told your staff to do something and gave them all of the direction needed to do it but for some reason, they didn't do what you wanted them to do. Do you know what caused the problem? Today I brought on a very special guest, Liz Illg, to share the importance of systems and processes for your pet business. Liz is the Owner of Puff & Fluff Grooming and Pet Sitting with five locations in Phoenix area. Not only has Liz turned her passion for animals into a thriving business, she is an expert when it comes to creating an environment of growth for your business as well. In fact, as an Operational Strategist, Liz specializes in working with small business owners and entrepreneurs. She can assist with everything from streamlining systems to creating manageable training and operational manuals. Liz received her Bachelor’s in Business from Arizona State University and her Master’s in Education from Northern Arizona University. Transcript: This is episode 175 of Bella in Your Business. In any case, get ready because you're about to get your hashtag Bella Butt Kickin' in this next episode of Bella in Your Business. So what do you say? Let's get ready and jump. Welcome to Bella in Your Business. My name is Bella Vasta, and I want you to recall a time where you wanted your staff to do something. You thought that you actually understood that you gave out all the instructions, but for the life of you, you can’t understand why they cannot just do what you want. Well, today I have a guest who is going to help solve this problem and a lot more that you might not have even realized you had. If you’re in the mastermind, you may have heard of her. If you’ve been to Paradise, you may have met her, but she has been changing pet sitters’ lives left and right the past 60 days. So I had to bring her on the podcast and give her all to you. Without further ado, Liz, welcome to the show. Liz shared that she owns five pet grooming businesses—actual storefronts—in the Phoenix area and has expanded to five locations in the last six and a half years. When we first met, she had just started, with only one location, doing everything herself. She talked about running 12- to 16-hour days and how exhausting that was. When asked how she managed to grow, Liz explained that she was originally the operator—doing it all—but realized that to grow, she needed to delegate. Before delegating, however, she had to document everything. Without documented processes, delegation was chaos. She shared a story about her “nightmare” moment—driving between her first and second storefronts when both managers called her about the same issue at the same time. She was juggling two phone calls, two crises, and realized she had failed—not because her managers were incapable, but because she had no documented processes to guide them. That moment became her turning point. Liz realized that as a CEO, she had to take full responsibility and own the problem instead of blaming her staff. As she grew, it became clear she couldn’t be the answer for everyone’s questions. It wasn’t fair to them or to her. Her team wanted clarity and empowerment, not constant dependency. She began building systems and processes so her business could run without her constant involvement. She explained that as she grew, she wanted to empower people around her—to create a culture where staff felt ownership. Systems should function independently, not rely on constant human oversight. By developing structured training, clear expectations, and standardized systems, Liz saw everything change. Her employees felt empowered and connected, and the culture improved dramatically. We then discussed the difference between handbooks, training manuals, and processes. Liz explained that handbooks and manuals are foundational—they establish credibility and outline company standards—but processes are the step-by-step instructions that make those standards actionable. A handbook might say, “Log into Precise Pet Care daily to check your schedule,” but a process explains how to do that, step-by-step, including where to click, what to check, and how to record notes. She emphasized that creating processes isn’t just about rules—it’s about guiding your team through an experience, just like you do for your clients. Processes can be turned into infographics, videos, or interactive guides because people learn differently. Some are visual, others prefer text or video. Assuming everyone learns the same way sets teams up for failure. We talked about the importance of strategy in developing processes. Liz helps clients define what their ideal process should look like. Often, business o

Hi there, I'm Bella Vasta from Jump Consulting. In any case, get ready because you're about to get your hashtag Bella Butt Kickin' in this next episode of Bella in Your Business. So what do you say? Let's get ready and jump. It's December, and my goodness, the business is popping. Your kids are excited and asking every single day, “Where is Santa Claus?” And you, my friend, are just fretting over keeping your business alive, figuring out what you should be doing for 2020—if you're even thinking that far—and just trying to keep your head above water so that you don't drown. What's going on, everybody? This is Bella Vasta, and today I'm going to talk to you all about your self-care for the holidays. I really hope to plant a few seeds in your brain and give you permission that it is okay to care about yourself. After all, many of you listeners are caretakers at heart, which is why we are in the field we are, but oftentimes we forget about ourselves. So today we're going to talk about taking time for your family, taking time for yourself, thinking ahead about gifts for everyone, decorating your house, and remembering that the reason you're in business is so that you do have this freedom. Let’s first talk about carving out time for your family. Maybe you want to carve out an hour for holiday activities once a week or look ahead on the calendar. Something I recently downloaded that I really love is called Facebook Local. It's a separate app that's basically the whole events section of Facebook. If you're like me, you always find out about events the day of, an hour before, or right after they happen. You see your friends posting about them and think, “My gosh, I am not that Pinterest mom or that crafty mom that plans ahead.” Whether or not you have kids, it's rare we actually look ahead for events and things that are coming up. My best tip is to download Facebook Local and look around at events in your area, then put them on your calendar. It doesn’t mean you have to go, but at least it’s in the back of your mind. When you open your calendar at the beginning of the week, you’ll remember, “Yeah, there was that Santa trap I really wanted to go on.” Another thing is to carve out a few dinners a week. If you have a family, do it with them. If you don’t, call up friends or relatives you haven’t seen for a while and say, “Hey, I know it's busy, but I really value our relationship. Want to grab dinner, lunch, or coffee on this day?” Making the effort goes a long way for relationship-building. If you have a spouse or significant other, plan date nights too. It doesn’t have to be fancy. One of my coaches, Trevinia Barber, shared that she and her husband would just go to the Hallmark store and read cards to each other—it was their bonding activity, simple and fun. You could also go for a stroll to see Christmas lights or go sledding if it snows where you are. Even in Arizo
Episode 173: Holiday Pet Events You Can Copy in Your Town
One of the best ways to gain exposure to your pet sitting or dog walking company is to host or participate in a holiday pet event. But oftentimes we have no idea what to do, where to do it, or just feel like it takes way too much energy. When I used to have my company, Bella's House & Pet Sitting for 14 years, I would participate and host many events. These events gave me an opportunity to get my name out to the community and a good excuse to walk up to people and talk about my company in a way that didn't seem sleazy. Through a lot of trial and error, my events became very successful. With a little bit of my magic, I'm going to show you how hosting a holiday pet event can be successful in your hometown area too. Biggest Takeaway You Don't Want to Miss Hosting a holiday pet event doesn't have to be overwhelming! With my list of holiday pet events you can copy, you too can host an event with all sorts of: Prizes Giveaways Photographer Alcohol sponsors Rescue groups getting piles of money Signs prominently hung outside of businesses with your logo on them. It's the holiday season and I'm trying something new with the podcast today. I hope that my audio mix actually works here, but gets you into that jingle jangle. Today we are actually talking all about holiday pet events that you can copy in your own town or city. One of the best ways to gain exposure in your pet sitting or dog walking company is to host or participate in a holiday pet event. But oftentimes, we have no idea what to do, where to do it, or just feel like it takes too much energy. When I used to have my company, Bella's House and Pet Sitting, for 14 years, I would participate in and host many events—so many that it became kind of automatic for me. I wanted to share a lot of that with you today, at least the ideas for it. These events became known in the community and offered me a lot of exposure and reason to just walk up to people and talk to them about my company in a very non-sleazy way. These events were successful and, through lots of trial and error, I got them running very smoothly. We had all sorts of prizes, giveaways, and even a celebrity photographer at one of the events taking pictures of people and their pets. It was Joe Lance from one of the seasons of America's Next Top Model. It was all the rage and really cool. We also had alcohol sponsors, rescue groups getting piles of money from us, and signs prominently hung outside of businesses with my logo advertising the events. The holidays are the ideal opportunity to host events, and I'm going to show you some of the magic you can create in your hometown. The five holiday pet events I'm going to talk about today are Yappy Hour, Mutt and Mingle, Dog Walking Club, Dog Hiking Club, and Santa Paws. The Yappy Hour or Mutt and Mingle hosts the happiest of happy hours. It’s a lot of fun to go to a local bar with your dog—especially during the holidays when everything’s decorated and everyone’s jolly. It can be indoor or outdoor and it’s a great way to get your community together with their pups and strike up a conversation about your business. All you have to do is find a local bar or venue to host the event, get a liquor sponsor through the venue, designate a photographer, decorate for it, and chat with all the attendees. You can add cute decorations like dog treats in shot glasses and host a raffle or giveaway. Next is a Dog Walking Club. This doesn’t have to be just a holiday pet event—it can be a year-round, once-a-month event. Humans and their dogs walk all together in a pack, creating a community where you can get your brand out there to relevant people. It’s typically a one- or two-mile loop that works best in subdivisions or apartment complexes—anywhere you
Episode 172: How To Build Trust In Your Pet Business On Social Media
The idea of being human is so obscure when you think of it. Obviously we are all human. However, nowadays it's becoming more and more necessary to prove that you are human. Especially when it comes to the internet and consistent technological advances. How do we remain human in a fast-paced technological world? The answer isn't as simple as we would think. Remaining human has a lot to do with identifying who we are, what we represent and what we want our clients to see. Then, it's about transferring that human quality not only in face to face contact but through our social media as well. Thankfully, Bryan Kramer, the founder of the H2H movement as well as Keynote Speaker, TED Talk Speaker, Coach, and CEO of H2H Companies, a Business Performance Coaching Company, came on the show to teach us more about human to human interactions and how you can build trust in your business on social media. Biggest Takeaway You Don't Want to Miss What makes us uniquely human is the way we talk and interact with others. Living in the land of automation has left us with the necessity of differentiating ourselves from online robots and the way to do that is to sound more human. Remaining human is going to be the key factor in building trust in your business! How do we remain human? How do we make sure we aren't taking all of the new apps and programs too far? Your Purpose. Your purpose is made up of an equal balance of your inspiration, your vision, and your innovation. Make sure to prove you're not a robot and listen in to this week's podcast with Bryan! Welcome to Bella in Your Business. My name is Bella Vasta, and today I've got a treat for you. Brian Kramer is with me, and you guys may not know him, but I know that you're going to be a follower and a fan in his groups probably by the end of this episode. I first met Brian about a year ago, and he was the nicest, most approachable guy—rightfully so because he actually started the H2H movement. What is that? Human to Human. He's also a keynote and TED Talk speaker, coach, and CEO of H2H Companies, a business performance coaching company. Brian, welcome to the show. Wow, that was quite the intro. Thank you. You're welcome—you deserve it! So what is H2H all about? Let’s start from scratch for our listeners who might be used to hearing B2C or B2B. We used to look at different ways of talking with our customers—business-to-business usually being professional services or higher-end companies, versus business-to-consumer or consumer-to-consumer products. However, at the end of the day, we’re all talking to the same people. We all buy in the same way, have the same emotions, and are moved by the same things. It doesn’t matter what you’re selling—it’s how we feel. The more human we are, the more likely we are to trust each other. When I first presented this idea, social media was just beginning. Now we’re on the cusp of AI, machine learning, virtual and augmented reality, and more. When I started, it was revolutionary that anyone could access the customer directly. Now it’s table stakes. So today, the real challenge is: how do we tell the humans from the automation? Bella explained that when she saw Brian speak at Social Media Week Lima, he did something risky—he ditched the slides and called up two people from the audience for a live exercise. What developed was a deeply personal, emotional interaction that moved everyone in the room. Brian shared that the goal was to help participants find their “why”—their purpose. When we find what truly sparks joy in us, everything else becomes easier. Not easy, but

Welcome to another episode of Bella in Your Business. My name is Bella Vasta, and today we're going to talk about something that not a lot of people like to talk about—and that is hiring tips during the holidays. Yes, yes, yes, the holidays are upon us. It is about the beginning of November as this podcast episode is coming out. Things have been jingling and jangling in Costco, in the supermarkets, in the malls, and everything already. The Hallmark Channel is coming out with 60 days of awesome shows. If you're like me and you like those sappy love stories, yay, finally! But one thing that we don't like during the holidays is hiring, right? We get really burnt out. We really hate all the hiring that we're doing. And it's really disappointing because what happens is that people are either in it for the seasonal work or they don't apply at all. And here we are, busy pet sitters and dog walkers trying to figure out what the heck to do because we need people to work for us. Am I right or am I right? Okay, so today I'm going to give you some awesome tips and mindset shifts that you can actually get going so that you don't have to burn yourself out and hate the holidays because we can take advantage of this. Seasonal people are really great for pet sitting and boarding because they're always home on the busy days. Now, I remember when I used to have my pet sitting company of 14 years, Bella’s House & Pet Sitting, I always loved hiring during the holiday season because the people that I hired for the holiday season were there for pet sitting and they were only there for that time when we had this major influx. And when you have this major influx and you need people to help come on board, they're there during the holidays, during the three-day weekends, during spring break, during school vacations—so it actually works out great. I want you to try to embrace the fact that the people that you can hire during those times are actually really good. Now, the caveat is if you're actually a dog walking company, because if you're a dog walking company, it's not going to work as well because your dog walking probably drops off during this time since a lot more people are staying home from work. But if you're a pet sitting company, go ahead and embrace the fact that people are looking for seasonal help because chances are if you're like just about everyone in the United States, your January numbers kind of start dropping. And that's pretty typical in our industry. If you're new to the industry, know that your p
Episode 170: How Your Thoughts Affect Your Business Worth
A lot of growing up has revolved around knowing your worth and the value of yourself. But, what about knowing the worth of your business? Or how the way you perceive your worth and value affects the way your potential clients see your business? Many times, we don't recognize how smart we are and therefore, we are not charging what we are worth. Knowing your worth and the value of your services directly impacts how potential clients see your business in a HUGE way. How do you begin to understand the worth of yourself and your business? This week, I had the opportunity to speak with Angus Nelson, the Director of Development for Golden Spiral Marketing, as well as, the host of the "Up In Your Business" podcast and has spoken for brands like Walmart, Whole Foods, BMW, Coke, & Adobe. Angus dove deep into what makes up your worth as a business and how you can continue to grow and expand that worth. Biggest Takeaway You Don't Want to Miss It's so easy to not charge what you're worth and that's simply because sometimes it hard to identify the complexities we feel within ourselves. If we have negative thoughts regarding the business or our own capabilities in succeeding and growing the business, it is so easy for the potential clients to see that. My name is Bella Vasta, and today I've got Angus Nelson for you. Angus is the Director of Development for Golden Spiral Marketing, helping business-to-business tech companies own their market. He's also the host of Up in Your Business—I love that name because it’s close to mine—and has spoken for brands like Walmart, Whole Foods, BMW, Coke, and Adobe. Angus is kind of the real deal. On a personal note, I met Angus a little over a year ago at Social Media Week Lima, Ohio, and was blown away by his presentation. He takes you to church. He had the entire room hooting and hollering—it was an experience. I love when speakers leave the room with a heart change, and he was so knowledgeable. I also got to meet his daughter at Social Media Marketing World, and he’s just someone you want to start following because he’s got lots of awesome truth. Without further ado, Angus, welcome to the show. Angus explained that the premise of worth is understanding that our entire world is based on an exchange of value. From the earliest barter systems of chickens and goats to today’s cryptocurrency, everything has an assigned worth—even if we can’t touch or see it. In business, our services and products have value to people, but we must first deliver that value properly. Many times, we don’t charge what we’re worth because internally, we hold limiting beliefs about our value. Those limiting beliefs often show up in our marketing—they’re projected into the copy, tone, and overall message, unconsciously giving customers excuses not to engage with us. Angus gave a vivid metaphor: if a brain surgeon offered to operate on you for $62 because it would take 62 minutes, you’d laugh. You’re not paying for time—you’re paying for expertise, years of study, and the value of that knowledge. The same principle applies to pet sitters and dog walkers. You’re not just spending 20 minutes with a pet; you’re bringing expertise, care, and trust. You know how to engage with animals, how to treat them with love

Welcome to Bella in Your Business. My name is Bella Vasta, and today I've got a special guest for you. Her name is Annette McDonald and she is the founder of Easil, an online DIY graphic design solution for brands and teams, and a leading design, print, and digital agency located on the Gold Coast in Australia. She has over 20 years of proven experience in the advertising, graphic, and print industry. Annette shared that each design element—whether print, web, or social media—adds layers to a business’s image and builds trust step by step. While the tone may differ slightly across platforms, consistency is key. A business should use a brand style guide and voice guide to ensure that fonts, colors, imagery, and tone remain cohesive. A brand style guide contains visual assets—colors (three to six), two to three fonts, imagery, and logo variations—along with instructions for placement and usage. A voice guide, on the other hand, defines the brand’s personality and writing tone so that anyone communicating on behalf of the business sounds consistent. Bella pointed out how specific shades and tones matter for maintaining brand uniformity, and Annette agreed, emphasizing how little details make a big difference. Together they discussed how a consistent visual and verbal identity makes customers feel connected to and confident in a brand. When asked about emotion in desi

In any case, get ready because you're about to get your hashtag Bella Butt Kickin' in this next episode of Bella in Your Business. So what do you say? Let's get ready and jump! Hello and welcome, you guys. My name is Bella Vasta, the coach with Jump Consulting, and I am going to explain to you today five different things that you can do to show up on social media when you just feel like you don't have the time. Because let's face it, I've never had anyone come to me and say, “I have all this time and I need to do something.” So we're going to get right to it, and this is going to be a lot of fun. It's going to be quick and simple because I know all of you are busy. Go ahead and shout out and let me know where you're watching from if you're watching the replay or where you are in the world. I always love to know that, and also say hi to me! The very first thing is we always find time for those things that are important. I really like to take this to extremes—if there was a funeral going on, we're going to stop everything and get there. Now that’s a little extreme, I know, but basically, I want to say that if you really want to do something, you're going to find the time. So let's just acknowledge that first. If we're not finding the time, what is the reason? Do we not really want to do it? Do we not really see the value in what social media can do? What are you doing where you could easily be recording? Maybe you just got off the phone and could say, “Hey guys, I just got off the phone with a brand new cat client. She usually never has a pet sitter, but her grandmother passed away on the East Coast, and she needs to fly out. The only thing she's really concerned about is her cat. We were able to help her by doing X, Y, and Z.” So tip number one is to find the time, seize the moment, and figure out the different things that are going on in your life right now that you could leverage. The second tip is to recycle your posts. You’ve put amazing effort and energy into creating them. You can go into the insights of your Facebook page and see by the chart which posts have performed well. Go back into those posts and reshare them, or copy and paste them and schedule them to
Episode 166: How To Use Email Marketing In Your Pet Sitting Business
Email marketing is something that a lot of business owners have an adverse reaction to. They think they're bothering people, no one opens them, and they don’t know what to say. Despite being able to batch them and schedule emails, not many choose this path. But why? In a world where Rover is killing it in the inbox by sending emails to the people on their list at least once a week, why can’t professional pet sitters who can surely be even more effective, intimate, and relevant do this? Today, I want to break it down to show you how I use email marketing and how you can, too. Biggest Takeaway You Don’t Want To Miss Email marketing is a great way to keep your audience up to date with what's going on in your business and humanize your business. Send weekly updates and use the P.S. section to ask them to respond, opening up the line of communication. I've got a topic that people come to me all the time and they just say, “I have no idea what photos to post on social.” They sit there, they stare at this blank cursor that’s just blinking. They might write something and then delete it all. Then they might write something again, then say it’s too long, or only write a sentence and feel like it’s not long enough. They might put so many emojis on it or wonder if emojis actually work. They have no idea what to do and no idea what form to use. We have carousels, videos, graphics, we can go live, we can share our screens—there’s so much we can do on social media that sometimes it’s overwhelming. Either we don’t know what to post because we don’t know what to say, or we’re paralyzed by too many options. So today, I’m going to give you seven things you can say on social media today. The first one is to be inspiring. You know those awesome quotes, stories, or pictures people share? I don’t want you to use someone else’s content, though, because that’s copyright infringement. I want you to be the one inspiring others. Take inspiration from your day. Follow people who inspire you—like Mari Smith, the queen of Facebook; Jen Herman, the top Instagram blogger; or my friend Nick Trevillion, a real estate mogul who’s always sharing insightful conte

They were so focused on creating a great trip and their normal pet sitter isn't available. They ask the group who they use for pet care, wouldn't it be amazing if your company came up overwhelmingly in the comments? What would you do if your entire community knew about your pet sitting or dog walking services? How would that change the face of your business? Today, I want to talk to you all about how to get your community to know about your business. Biggest Takeaway You Don’t Want To Miss Getting known has to do with getting clear on what you want to be known for. Often times this isn’t the facts or what you do, but it is how you do it that matters. There is no doubting the fact that our clients are on Facebook. Instagram is close behind. You want to be the thought leader or expert in your community, but if you have no unique presence online it's going to be hard to accomplish. Each month you should be writing blogs, creating graphics and videos, sending emails, sharing IG stories, and more. That might seem overwhelming, but Better Marketing With Bella can actually provide those things for your business with your branding, ready to post each month. Picture this: there’s a big gala going on in your area. It’s nighttime, everyone’s dressed to the nines, and there are some local celebrities there. It’s a high-ticket event where people are spending thousands of dollars to have a table. These are the movers and shakers, the affluent pet lovers in your area. They’re sitting around the table at dinner, and someone starts talking about their pet sitter or their pets. Imagine if your company’s name came up. Or think about this: you’re in a Facebook group—maybe a mom’s group or a local community group—and someone posts, “Hey, winter vacation’s coming up, and I totally forgot about the dog. I was so focused on airfare, hotels, and activities that I forgot I need a dog sitter.” Their typical go-to option isn’t available, so they ask, “Who do you use for pet care?” Now imagine your company’s name comes up not just once, but overwhelmingly in the comments. Or maybe your potential client is at a soccer game. Parents are hanging out, waiting for the kids to finish practice, chatting about work, grocery shopp
Episode 162: 3 Problems with Marketing Your Pet Business
I'm coming to you today to talk about how you can solve the three biggest problems you have with marketing your pet business. I've found that marketing either comes naturally to you or you despise it. The ones that despise it are left lying awake at night wondering how to bring in more clients than they actually want. We all dream of having our business be the one that comes to mind in our local community when they think of pet care, but it's really hard to get there. Biggest Takeaway You Don’t Want To Miss The most common challenges I see pet businesses face around marketing are not having the time to do it, the money and resources to fund it, or the creative juices to create it. Time is one of our most precious commodities. It almost always gets in the way of business owners working on marketing within their business. The lack of time to plan, resources to create, and creativity to produce something can lead you to share someone else’s content, which is only helping them, not you. Better Marketing With Bella can solve these marketing problems in your pet business by creating white-label videos and graphics with your branding, ready to post each month. In any case, get ready because you’re about to get your hashtag Bella Butt Kickin’ in this next episode of Bella in Your Business. So what do you say? Let’s get ready and jump! Hello, jumpers! It’s just you, me, and the microphone today. I am pumped to come to you and talk about how you can solve the three biggest problems with marketing your pet business. I talk to so many of you every single day—sometimes online, sometimes via Zoom, sometimes on the phone—and a common theme I hear is that marketing feels hard. I think the biggest challenges fall into three areas: time, money, and creativity. Some people find marketing naturally enjoyable, while others despise it. They lie awake at night wondering how to get more of the clients they want and stop attracting the ones they don’t. Some just hired great new team members and now worry they don’t have enough clients to keep them busy. Others are working too much in their business and are stuck in that red zone—doing extra visits just to have enough work to hand off once they finally hire help. No matter what stage of business you’re in, I’m sure you’ve thought about or lived this before—wishing your community would automatically think of your business name when they think of pet care. You want your business to be the one on everyone’s lips at the dog park, the bus stop, or in local Facebook groups. That’s the dream. But it’s not easy to get there. One of the most popular challenges I see is time—or rather, not having enough of it. I know your to-do list probably has a to-do list. You’re running nonstop, maybe surviving off fast food, sugar, and caffeine, wishing for the day things will calm down. Spoiler alert: they rarely do. Every time you think you’ll have a few free hours to work on your business, something happens—your child gets sick, you lose energy, or you just mentally can’t do one more thing. I’ve been there. We all have the same
