Narcissists cannot change because their false self, which is constructed to feel superior and demand attention, prevents them from admitting any wrongdoing or taking responsibility for their actions. People often tolerate narcissistic abuse due to cognitive dissonance, where they create justifications and excuses for staying in the relationship.
