Dr. Afrika is an internationally acclaimed author, naturopathic healer, certified acupuncturist, nutrition counselor and addictionologist. His surprising death in March of this year saddened and stunned many. He was 74. We were scheduled to read Dr. Afrika's work at some point this year, but there was no urgency to select a time. The coronavirus changed everything. Seemingly days after many around the world joked that black people are immune to "the rona," an avalanche of reports announced that black people in the U.S. are dying at alarming numbers from the so-called coronavirus. The history and continued practice of #MedicalAprtheid, abusing and experimenting on black patients, is one theory to explain the high number of fatalities. But obesity, cigarette smoking, high blood pressure, diabetes and a host of other diet-related health problems seem to be correlated with a higher risk of dying from the coronavirus. The Context of White Supremacy revisits Dr. Frances Cress Welsing's 24th visit our platform. A 3rd generation physician, author, general and child psychiatrist, Dr. Welsing dedicated her life energy to our cosmic assignment: Replacing White Supremacy With Justice. Although she transitioned at the beginning of 2016, her brilliance continues to instruct and explain current events. Dr. Welsing's 24th visit (out of a total of 31) to The C.O.W.S. was on August 24th, 2014. The chaos and confusion of the Covid-19 crisis continues with the U.S. reporting more than 100,000 deaths from the virus. Brazil now reports the 2nd most cases in the world. Black people on both continents have suffered greatly from the virus, White Supremacist medical practices, and misinformation around the the health crisis. In midst of all this, protests rage across the country. Armed Whites have been raging against stay at home regulations for more than a month. Now, demonstrations across the country mark the latest black male to be killed by enforcement officers. Minnesota's George Floyd was killed by Suspected Race Soldier Derek Chauvin. The now-terminated White officer was arrested and charged this week with Floyd's murder. The protests in Minnesota escalated, one person was reportedly shot. In Kentucky, marches recognizing the murder of Breonna Taylor were disrupted by gunfire. Seven people were shot. Atlanta and numerous other cities have also experienced major disruptions. The U.S. and Brazil have more black people than any other areas in the western hemisphere, and black people are reportedly being disproportionately impacted in both areas. All areas of people activity have been disrupted, and workers in all industries are struggling to deal with daily adjustments and new safety hazards. In New Orleans, Louisiana - a location that was labeled as an early "hotspot" in the United States - sanitation workers are on strike protesting unsafe conditions and unacceptable compensation. It's reported that prisoners are now being employed to compensate for the state's sanitation needs. We'll continue to review what measures employers are taking to ensure worker safety, and we'll encourage listeners to speak up if you think you see unsafe conditions. In Texas, White entrepreneurs are defying orders to remain closed and employing armed security to ensure they remain open for business. A North Carolina family with young children was accosted by a gang of armed Whites. These Suspected Race Soldiers reportedly had a rocket launcher. A separate Racist Suspect approached the victims brandishing a massive pipe wrench. In a separate North Carolina incident, WECT News reports an attempted black family was terrorized by a gang of Racists. The Racist mob allegedly included an off-duty member of the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, J.T. Kita. In the midst of the ongoing necrophilia and gawking over the death of Georgia Ahmaud Arbery, the same gruesome spectacle is now focused on Kentucky EMT Breanna Taylor. Enforcement officers killed Taylor, 26, in her own home in March of this year. In the midst of all of this black death, daily reports continue to announce the toll the virus is exacting on black people. Brazil, which has the highest population of black people in the western hemisphere, is currently experiencing a sharp increase in cases of the virus. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes the return of a black male listener in China. A so called ex-patriot, he's lived in China for over a decade. An educator by trade, he's been instructing Chinese students during his time abroad. He joined us in April to discuss his quarantine time in China as well the spread of the coronavirus in the United States. Since we last spoke with him, Whites around the country have taken up arms to protest stay at home orders. The mayor and her child were subjected to racist texts and demands that she re-open the city. Commander in chief Donald J. Trump failed to inspire confidence when he suggested that "injection" of some sort of disinfectant may be help stop Covid-19. The Chief Environmental Research Scientist at Environmental Health Research Associates, Dr. Washington is an environmental epidemiologist, environmental engineer and environmental historian with 30 years of research experience working on the impact of industrial pollution on human health and ecosystems. This spring we read her 2004 publication, Packing Them In: An Archaeology of Environmental Racism in Chicago, 1865-1954. The book does a fabulous job detailing the long and violent history of compressing huge numbers of black Chicagoans into sub-standard living conditions that destroy health. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 2nd study session on Dr. Llaila O. Afrika's Nutritional Destruction Black People (Nutricide). Dr. Afrika is an internationally acclaimed author, naturopathic healer, certified acupuncturist, nutrition counselor and addictionologist. His surprising death in March of this year saddened and stunned many. He was 74. We planned to read Dr. Afrika's work at some point this year, but there was no urgency to select a date. The coronavirus changed everything. Seemingly days after many around the world joked that black people are immune to "the rona," an avalanche of reports announced that black people in the U.S. are dying at alarming numbers from the so-called coronavirus. The history and continued practice of #MedicalAprtheid, abusing and experimenting on black patients, is one theory to explain the high number of fatalities. But obesity, cigarette smoking, high blood pressure, diabetes and a host of other diet-related health problems seem to be correlated with a higher risk of dying from the coronavirus. The current health crisis demanded that we open Dr. Afrika's work immediately. Unfortunately, last week's session wasn't the most optimistic beginning. Dr. Afrika made a number of comparisons between black people in the U.S. and black people on the continent of Africa. These two groups eat profoundly different things with profoundly different health consequences. This was not acknowledged or discussed at all in Dr. Afrika's work. There's a liberal amount of name-calling black people exclusively throughout the book. In fact, Dr. Afrika's book features this quote from "a White racist" on the book jacket: "Your people will never accept you.
