A father, journalist and former Black Panther Party Member, Abu-Jamal has been a Pennsylvania inmate since 1981. He stands convicted of killing a White enforcement officer on the morning of December 9, 1981. He's maintained his innocence for almost 40 years. We'll read his 1996 publication, Live From Death Row, which is a collection of essays examining White Supremacy, U.S. history and the so-called legal system. Dr. Horne holds the Moores Professorship of History and African American Studies at the University of Houston. He's authored a bounty of texts and articles that detail what Racism/White Supremacy is and how it operates globally. His 2016 treatment of Robeson chronicles the latter's illustrious achievements as a linguist, scholar, athlete and entertainer. Robeson used the his enormous bounty of talent to address the problem of Racism. Last week's installment provided even more evidence of the FBI's extensive targeting of Robeson. Speaking aggressive Whites, Eddie Gallagher, a former Navy Seal, was acquitted of murder but convicted of posting nude photos of corpses - similar to the posting of lynched black bodies. The same week the latest Democratic Presidential debate was hosted in Atlanta, a White Georgia teenage girl was arrested for plotting a White Terrorist attack on the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Enforcement officers report that she was allegedly inspired by convicted mass killer and White Supremacist Dylann Roof and had written a similar manifesto deriding black people. In Europe, Prince Andrew faces intensifying criticism for his relationship with child rapist Jerry Epstein. Additionally, this week he was in additional row, accused by a former government employee of using the phrase "nigger in the wood pile." Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg offered a belated apology for the damaged inflicted by the NYPD's "stop and frisk" pogrom. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Laura Wexler. A writer and instructor at Johns Hopkins University, Ms. Wexler formerly resided in Georgia where she researched the 1946 Moore's Ford Bridge Lynching. Four black people, two black males and two black females, where shot and killed by a mob of Whites in July of '46. The slaughter caused national outrage and prompted a investigation from the J. Edgar Hoover's FBI. In 2003, Wexler published Fire In A Canebrake: The Last Mass Lynching In America, which documents her years of research into the mass murder. We'll discuss what motivated Wexler, a White woman, to investigate this case and we'll explore what this incident reveals about White dedication (not ignorance) to Racism. A massive international manhunt is being coordinated following the killing of a family of nine Mormons earlier this week. Journalist have pointed out the routine violence in Mexico involving non-white people that is routinely unpunished. The New York Times journalist Charles M. Blow wrote a dazzling piece challenging the consistent accusation that black people are menacing threat to homosexuals - particularly in the voting booth. Speaking voting, in Mississippi thousands of citizens - many of them black - are obstructed from voting because of laws created decades earlier for the purpose of strengthening White Supremacy. In Chicago, Illinois teachers remain on strike for better teaching conditions for the city's hefty population of black students. In New Jersey, a pair of White students lobbed racist slurs and threw urine on a black child. The surprise of a guilty verdict was quickly eviscerated when she was sentenced to only 10 years in greater confinement. Guyger is likely to appeal. In Gouverneur, New York, White school officials continue sorting through the terrorist incident where a 10-year-old black girl was violently assaulted by two Racist White girls. The attack happened on a school bus, where the driver, Tiffany Spicer, allegedly spectated and did nothing to stop the brutality. She's been charged endangering the welfare of a child. In Arkansas, the Elaine Massacre of 1919 is being recognized is being recounted. The New York Times describes what happened a century early, where enforcement officials, soldiers, and "vigilantes, hunted black people over a 200-mile radius. They scorched and burned homes with families inside, slaughtered and tortured others. The troops were aided by seven machine guns." The Context of White Supremacy hosts the fifth study session on the late Toni Morrison's 1981 novel, Tar Baby. The first black female to win the Nobel Prize for literature, Morrison, an Ohio native, passed away this summer at the age of 88. In edition to editing a number of black texts and compiling an mammoth body of written work, Morrison encouraged other black females and males to write - including Dr. Angela Davis. The C.O.W.S. Book club read The Bluest Eye in 2012. We'll recognize her passing by returning to her work, this time to read Tar Baby. The novel is named after the Uncle Remus character "Tar Baby." The term has been used a racist slur applied specifically to black children. This fable becomes an important part of the narrative.
