An environmental epidemiologist, environmental engineer and environmental historian, Dr. Washington is Chief Environmental Research Scientist at Environmental Health Research Associates, LLC. With three decades of research experience examining the impact of industrial pollution on human health and ecosystems, she's the creator and editor-in-chief of the first international environmental health disparities journal, Environmental Justice. We'll inspect her 2004 text, Packing Them In: An Archaeology of Environmental Racism in Chicago, 1865-1954. Chicago is a significant city in North America, and black people have sojourned to this region for over a century. Consequently, Whites have devoted a staggering amount of time, energy and resources to study, warehouse, terrorize and poison the black people of the "windy city." During last week's session Dr. Hood highlighted Dr. George Washington Carver's efforts at the turn of the 1900's to address black people's problems - which included healthy environments. W. E. B. Woodson, 2020's Black History Month came to somber conclusion with the death of Katherine Johnson and the public memorial to basketball legend Kobe Bryant. Johnson was a mathematical genius and used her brilliance for White NASA program; she's immortalized in the Kevin Costner film Hidden Figures. Bryant, who died at the end of January in a helicopter crash with his 13-year-old daughter and seven others, was given a public tribute in Los Angeles. Sorrows continued with a reported workplace shooting at Molson Coors Brewery in Wisconsin. A black male, Anthony Ferrill, has accused of killing five co-workers and then committing suicide. Ferrill charged his White colleagues with practicing Racism on the job - including leaving nooses in the workplace. Speaking of lynching, decades and decades after thousands of black people were lynched across the continent, congress finally approved anti-lynching legislation. A shooting at a Molson Coors brewery (#SobrietyWouldBeBest) riveted the nation as 6 people were reported dead. Anthony Ferrill, a 51-year-old black male, is alleged to have killed 5 co-workers before turning the gun on himself. It's been reported that Ferrill had a "dispute" with one of the co-workers who was executed. Several outlets reported that Ferrill alleged his White co-workers hung nooses in the workplace and mistreated him because he was not White. A Provost’s Distinguished Associate Professor of history and African American studies at Georgetown University, Dr. Chatelain is a scholar of African American life and culture and is credited with starting the hashtag #FergusonSyllabus to contextualize the 2014 police killing of Michael Brown Jr. We'll discuss her most recent publication, Franchise: The Golden Arches in Black America - which begins with images of Ferguson, Missouri protesters seeking refuge, outlets for charging mobile phones, and relief from tear gas at the local McDonald's. Dr. Chatelain examines the rise of the fast food behemoth and how marketing to (exploiting) black people helped the exponential growth of the burger chain. We'll examine how black franchise owners were added to the mix and how they routinely reported Racism - from being given franchises in dilapidated areas to getting "cold shoulders" from fellow White franchise owners. We'll also study how McDonald's has cultivated/conditioned black consumers for decades with gospel song and hip-hop driven commercials, to their genius effort with the McDonald's All-American game. China is feeling economics implications as a result of quarantines and health scares. In fact, even non-whites in Japan and African students are feeling adverse consequences from the precautions to contain the spread of the virus. Speaking of Japan, California offered a belated apology for placing large numbers of so called Japanese Americans in greater confinement (concentration camps) during World War II. Speaking of Adolf Hitler, Amazon's streaming service is debuting a new series where a vigilante group hunts Nazis war criminals for vengeance. It's doubtful Whites will imagine a series where black people "punish" Whites for centuries of White Terrorism. In Hitler's Germany, a suspected "right-wing" terrorist killed 9 in murderous rampage on German Kurds. Washington is a science writer, editor and ethicist who's held prestigious positions at the most elite academies across the globe. Her debut work, Medical Apartheid: The Dark History of Medical Experimentation on Black Americans from Colonial Times to the Present, is one of Gus's all time favorites and is widely hailed as a depressing and immaculate historical record of White medical terrorism against black people. A Terrible Thing to Waste explores the impact of environmental Racism - the deliberate poisoning of areas that will disproportionately and adversely impact non-white people. Many of the toxic impacts of this pollution are unknown to the victims and can have lifelong debilitating impacts on quality of life and brain functioning. Last week's segment offered a wealth of suggestion on how black people can protect themselves from the wealth of toxins Racists dump on our areas. She suggested small things such as not wearing shoes in our houses, using some sort of water filter device to help purify your water, keeping windows closed during high traffic hours if your live near busy intersections. She also talked about the relationship between "mad cow" disease and Alzheimer's diagnosis among black people. Evidence suggests, tainted meats can greatly impact health - particularly for pregnant mothers. They made a number of catchy hashtags to highlight the egregiously violations they face daily. Within the same report, a number of workers outside the computer industry reported they are being banned from social media platforms for attempting to discuss Racism. She evidenced how cigarettes and alcohol are overly promoted in areas where mostly black people reside. The chapter also documented how alcohol companies aggressively market to underage black children. Alcohol consumption cannot be beneficial to still-developing minds. Washington shared the evidence shows White Women are more likely to consume alcohol during pregnancy, but black females are more likely to have a child with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. Fresh after retired U.S. Air Force Col. Charles McGee, a member of the so-called Tuskegee Airmen, was honored before the kickoff of the Super Bowl, President Trump ferried Col. McGee to the nation's capitol for the State of the Union Address. #2For1 As if that wasn't enough, days later, the president was acquitted of all impeachment charges - as expected. #4MoYears Around the world, China continues to reverberate with the consequences of the so-called Wuhan coronavirus. #YellowPeril And two weeks after the stunning death of Kobe Bryant, many are cashing in on the spike in merchandise sales of the fallen sports icon. During last week's session, Washington continues to stockpile silos of evidence that Whites often knowingly place black people in areas that are bulging with toxins and harmful chemicals. She continues to emphasize how these poisons impact children - whose bodies and brains are still developing. Toxins like lead can have a substantially more harmful impact if the child is exposed during key developmental periods. In some instances, like Fort Myers, Florida, Whites dumped industrial waste and arsenic in area where large numbers of black people would be encouraged to live. There was not so much as a cardboard sign erected to suggest the dangerous hazards of the area. Washington has consistently stressed that this is not a problem of poverty because poor Whites are not poisoned in the same manner as black people. With a decade of experience working for the Georgia Department of Corrections, Mr. Dandridge examines the corrupt prison system that is working as it should in a System of Racism. We'll discuss his book, Georgia's Corrupt Prison System: As Told By An Insider. Dandridge describes how the caging of black people serves as welfare for White towns, and the prevalence of anti-sex and rape among inmates. Mr. Dandridge does mention Mr. Neely Fuller's Jr's work in the text; however, his text still invokes terms like "racial bias" and suggests that there are black "leaders." The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers will give each other brain damage and bludgeon each other for several hours to entertain Whites and a large number of non-white people. We'll scrutinize the commercials and outlandish festivities associated with the ball game. We'll also revisit one of Dr. Frances Cress Welsing's Super Bowl visits to The C.O.W.S. One year before she passed, Dr. Welsing visited us to discuss the importance of striving for something greater (JUSTICE) than Whites' ball games. Gus found it significant that the big game was broadcast on Rupert Murdoch's FOX network. President Donald J. Trump and Republican candidate Michael Bloomberg paid millions for political advertisements during the ball game. A different White female instructor shared a story of this text being used in a yoga teacher training class filled to the brim with White Women. After reading Ms. Johnson's text, the room was left with an awkward, tense silence. We'll examine her definitions for White Supremacy and why she thinks White Women are receptive to her views on White Supremacy. Curiously her book recommends non-white people "love" Whites. Predictably, it suggests that Whites are "ignorant" about White Supremacy. White Women at Seattle's Grinning Yogi studio in Seattle practiced White Supremacy against Gus, but hired Ms. Johnson to discuss her book and "social justice" in 2018. Numerous reports indicate that the Trump Administration authorized the assassination of Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani - believed to be non-white. Interestingly, President Donald J. Trump declared that Iranian cultural cites may be targeted for retribution. This is supposed to be illegal; however, Whites have a history of obliterating and disrespecting black cultural, burial and spiritual locations. Whites in Australia are battling wildfires believed to be exacerbated by climate change. Across the globe in the U.S., President Trump continues to neuter environmental protections designed to stop poisoning the planet and disrupting the climate. In Texas, Yolanda Carr, mother of Atatiana Jefferson who was shot and killed in October by a Ft. Worth enforcement official, died this week at the age of 55. Cause of the death has not been released. Freeman reveals the deliberate campaign to discourage black mothers from breastfeeding their children. Numerous White scientists around the globe and for decades have unanimously agreed that breastfeeding is the optimal nutritional source for young babies. Skimmed details the sad history of the Fultz quadruplets, a set of identical black baby girls born in the 1940's in North Carolina. The Pet Milk conglomerate along with White doctors ran experiments on these children and ultimately stole all four girls from their black parents to make them the focal point of an advertising campaign to promote synthetic formula to black mothers. The shooter killed two parishioners before being fatally wounded by an armed White member of the churches security. The town has a long history of White Supremacy - including refusing to change the town name. Former NBA Commissioner David Stern died at the age of 80. Stern is credited with expanding professional basketball to a global market and growing the league into a billion dollar conglomerate. Stern also mandated a dress code, prohibited black high school athletes like LeBron James and Kobe Bryant from skipping collegiate (unpaid) basketball and allowed White Supremacist Donald Sterling, former owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, to remain a member of the league. In New York, concerns mount that "antisemitism" is growing. A father, journalist and former Black Panther Party Member, Abu-Jamal has been a Pennsylvania inmate since 1981. He stands convicted of killing a White enforcement officer on the morning of December 9, 1981. He's maintained his innocence for almost 40 years. We'll read his 1996 publication, Live From Death Row, which is a collection of essays examining White Supremacy, U.S. history and the so-called legal system. We'll explore how much has changed - or not - since this book's original publication. Last week's session contrasted the 1985 bombing of the MOVE headquarters in Philadelphia with the 1993 government siege of the Branch Davidian compound in Waco Texas. Mumia articulates that both represent violent draconian measures government takes against it's own people. Gus and Thomas in NY think find this comparison to be inaccurate as a number of high ranking white officials - including attorney general Janet Reno expressed sorrow about the loss of White life and the handling of the situation in Texas. There was near harmonious unanimity among Philadelphia officials who blamed the most black members of MOVE for the bombing, loss of life and destruction of black-owned property. Mumia detailed his time in the Black Panther Party - including the COINTELPRO fueled conflict within party ranks - and later his admiration for MOVE. He was known for winning an undefeated state championship the season the school district "integrated" - which was dramatized by Denzel Washington in Walt Disney's "Remember The Titans." In Mississippi, Curtis Flowers was released on bail after being convicted on six different occasions for four murders. He's been caged for over two decades and was sentenced to be executed, but the Supreme Court overturned his death sentence "finding that prosecutors had shown an unconstitutional pattern of excluding African American jurors in the trials of Flowers, who is black," writes Time. In Tulsa, Oklahoma, mass graves have been unearthed which suggests substantially more black people were slaughtered during the 1921 Terrorist Attack. He stands convicted of killing a White enforcement officer on the morning of December 9, 1981. He's maintained his innocence for almost 40 years. We'll read his 1996 publication, Live From Death Row, which is a collection of essays examining White Supremacy, U.S. history and the so-called legal system. We'll examined how much has changed - or not - since this book's original publication. Last week's session focused on the 1987 Supreme Court case McCleskey v. Kemp. Mumia notes that a key piece of evidence from this case is that defendants charged with killing someone classified as White in Georgia are 4.3 times more likely to receive a death sentence compared to someone charged for killing a black person. The incident is being referred to as an "anti-Semitic" attack, as the final gun battle erupted a "kosher deli" in a "Hasidic" New Jersey neighborhood. The two suspected gunmen were reportedly killed on the scene. It's now reported that one of the alleged gunman, David N. Anderson, was a "Black Hebrew Israelite." Whites regularly brand this organization a "hate group," although The New York Times circulated, "The group is not known for committing mass acts of violence. It doesn’t have a record of violence that white supremacists have in the United States." A separate shooting at a Pensacola, Florida naval academy was immediately branded an act of terrorism.
