If you’ve been following my podcasting adventures, you’ll know I’ve done this movie before as an episode of my previous podcast. Well, in order to get your ready for next week when I discuss the brand new sequel, I thought it would be best to refresh on WNUF Halloween Special and introduce Jessica and you the listener to it. This film hits me in a very specific nostalgic pinch and I’ve adored it since I first took it in. I dig a good left turn on the show. Sure, Practical Magic isn’t a horror film in October, but its story of witches and has a VERY fall feeling. Well, it’s been quite some time since we’ve had a normal, straightforward episode of the show. A combination of things happened here. I wanted a little break after working hard on The Summer of 82 at 40 series, I had a vacation the first week of September and then I caught Covid pretty bad from said Vacation. Kiss Me Deadly has been on the Out Now bucket list for a while now. We discuss why and then dive into the 1955 noir classic that is quite punk rock for its time and genre. Age has been kind to this stylistic and highly influential pot boiler. It also features the film debut of Cloris Leachmann. We interrupt your regularly scheduled week with some good ‘ol home video collector shop talk. From one British science fiction show to another – It’s time for Blake’s 7! The show is very “Doctor Who adjacent”. Not only is it created by the father of the Daleks Terry Nation, but many of the people in front of and behind will reign super familiar. Unlike Doctor Who, the show does get to some more bleak territory. And as quickly as we began, it was over! Dragonfire marks a significant turn in the Sylvester McCoy run as the Seventh Doctor. It most importantly introduces us to his mainstay companion in Ace played by Sophie Aldrea. Ace is an important character that will go on to enrich the idea and writing of a companion in Doctor Who which would echo all the way through to the new series.
