The Summer of 2004 at 20 with Scott Mendelson & Aaron Neuwirth: May 14-16, 2004
The Summer of 2004 at 20 is a weekly retrospective journey through American pop culture during May, June, July and August of 1993. Brandon Peters, The Wrap’s Scott Mendelson and We Live Entertainment/Out Now with Aaron and Abe’s Aaron Neuwirth take a weekend by weekend look at the films released during the summer as well as the news stories, television and music that rounded out the public’s lives as they lined the pockets of the box office to see these movies. May 14-16, 2004: Continuing on we see the likes of a Jim Jarmusch film, a bad indie with a good idea, Jamie Foxxx first movie in his breakout year and the big historical epic TROY with Brad Pitt! Also, another legendary sitcom has its series finale. We’ll also be discussing the box office report, notable news stories, the top 10 Nielsen rated tv programs for the week and the top 10 of Ryan Seacrest’s weekly American top 40 from the week these films were released. Your wait has come to an end. The Summer of 2004 has arrived! The Summer of 2004 at 20 is a weekly retrospective journey through American pop culture during May, June, July and August of 1993. May 7-9, 2004: We open up with a bonafide summer kick-off film in VAN HELSING starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale. The Olsen Twins stop in for a NEW YORK MINUTE. Poorly Described Movies: The Game LIVE! From PopCon Indy 2024 with Chris Johnson
Ya’ll seem to REALLY like this game. Chris Johnson of The Normies returns with me to do another round of this very vague, very silly game of poorly describing movies. I’m humbled and honored to see the seats fill up before we were even starting. And I think Chris and I should really just loosey goosey this thing from here on. It’s part of the fun. Watch as I sail one of my vague hints right over his head. We’ll be back in Louisville! The Brandon Peters Show will return Monday with The Summer of 2004 at 20 with Scott Mendelson & Aaron Neuwirth. LIVE! From PopCon Indy 2024 with Jessica Alsman and Patrick McGlinn
Onto the 2nd day of my PopCon Indy 2024 recordings. You know the drill on this one. Jessica. Patches. Me. Old Trivial Pursuit. This time they pick between the 2 old versions we’ve used before. This time, Patches gets a little crazy with the contestant picking and finds some voices familiar to Jessica and I. The tables turn on him when he tries to play the game himself. Special shout outs to Megan Splichal from Anime Crossroads and Championship Darts CEO Peter Citera for stopping in and playing the game! PopCon Indy 2024 Preview with Carl Doninger
PopCon returns for its 11th year in Indianapolis this coming April 26-28. This is the first of 2 cons this year, the other happening in Louisville at the end of August. To hype up the upcoming event, I’ve asked owner Carl Doninger to return and tell us what’s all in store and why you should come and be a part of the festivities. With guests like Elijah Wood, Andy Serkis, John Barrowman, Dean Norris and more – this is shaping to be one of the biggest PopCons yet and you definitely don’t want to miss out! -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return TECHNICAL INFORMATIONVocalsBrandon – Shure SM58-LCCarl – Laptop Microphone (Recorded with Zoom) Post ProductionNCH Wavepad Masters Edition v8.38NCH MixPad Masters v5.22The Levelator 2 RUNTIME: 46 minutes
Products of the Panic: Devil’s Road: The True Story of Ed and Lorraine Warren (2020) with Troy Brownfield
From the kick starter of the Satanic Panic to 2 of the prominent talk show figures of the era, Ed and Lorraine Warren. Now, they weren’t so much involved in the ritualistic abuse side of things, moreso the paranormal/spiritual research. Nonetheless, though they had been around for a few decades prior, their stature lifted in the 80s and became a household name. This documentary from the Travel Channel was deemed “the true story” though it is without any questioning or skepticism. Presenting everything as real without question. Troy and I look at this, discuss the cases and analyze. -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return. Products Of The Panic: Satan Wants You (2023) with Troy Brownfield
March will see a couple installments in the Products of the Panic series. First up is a documentary Troy and I have been waiting to go over since its announcement – Satan Wants You. Largely a festival film last year, it dropped on Tubi for mass consumption back in December of 2023. Satan Wants You tackles the book that was a major spark for the entire Satanic Panic of the 1980s; Michelle Remembers. Now, that’s a title you’ve heard referenced and recapped on this series A LOT. Now, we dive into the full thing and the story of Michelle and her psychiatrist that conjured up this whole nonsense that the media and American public bought into en masse. -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return. Rom Com Roulette: Modern Romance (1981) with Jessica Alsman & Greg McGoon
I’d been kicking around an idea of a Rom Com run of episodes ever since I met Greg McGoon and he became such a staple here. And I thought, why not bring this horror movie trio with Jesscia on to do some. Originally planned as one episode, these discussions went very long, so I made each film we covered into its own episode. We’ve come to the last stop here. Modern Romance. My pick. A deconstructive look at the genre and an almost uncomfortably honest look at jealousy. This is a film that fascinates me and YES, I do consider it in the Rom Com family. -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return Monday (2/26) for one more spin on the Rom Com Roulette wheel! Rom Com Roulette: It Happened One Night (1934) with Jessica Alsman & Greg McGoon
The second installment goes all the way back to the ultimate trendsetter that became a phenomenon and the one with which all would aspire to be – Frank Capra’s It Happened One Night. Originally planned as one episode, these discussions went very long, so I made each film we covered into its own episode. Our first one here is the 2000 film, Return To Me. Brandon’s 4K Blu-ray Wishlist
Solo episode this week! I’m keeping a tradition I used to write at Why So Blu: alive in the podcast form. I’ve also upgraded the format. Brandon’s 4K Blu-ray Wishlist is a pondering and argument for titles that I believe should be put on the format during this current year. Some of them are head scratching that they aren’t. Others are personal faves I’d like to see. This has always been a fun endeavor for me for 11 years now. Please hit me up on the YouTube comments or on the socials for what titles YOU would like to see and which ones of mine you may have some more info on in regards to their chances of seeing a release. -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return Wednesday (2/12) with ROM COM ROULETTE. The Best Films Of 2023 with Chris Johnson
Time to look back on 2023. One of my favorite parts of 2023 was meeting Chris Johnson of The Normies and doing some live shows with him at both PopCon events last year. I’ve asked him to join me here as we give our Top 10 lists of the films released this past year. In addition, we give our thoughts on what the year as a whole meant to film as an art form and in the pop culture spectrum. We give our best “new to me” film picks as well as my honorable mentions and look forward to films being released this year (2024). Thanks to everyone who continues to listen, keep up with and support this show. It truly means the world. Here’s to more great podcasting in 2024! -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return. Doctoberfest 2023 featuring Sophie Aldred
I’ve had many listeners asking when they’d be hearing some of the stuff I’d recorded at Doctoberfest 2023 and it’s finally time. A big thank you to Keith & Jany Bradbury of Who North America for having me and their son Jonathan who provided recording equipment and filmed and recorded for me. During Doctoberfest I had a short chat with the wonderful Sophie Aldred who played the 7th Doctor companion Ace on the classic series from 1987-1989, reprising it a year ago for the 13th Doctor’s regeneration story “Power of the Doctor”. In addition, I also talked with Larry VanMersbergen, who has one of the largest Doctor Who collections on the planet, Lego Master Jason Wolfson, film prop collector Troika Brodsky, custom action figure creator Kevin Lyons and our good ol pal Russell McGee of Big Finish. I do want to note that the audio came back to me pretty rough, but I did my best to fix it up and make it pleasant to your ears. Following the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, it is believed we will be seeing a reset in the land of DC Comics turned movies under the new regime of James Gunn and Peter Safran. In this retrospective, Scott Mendelson and I (along with some guests) will be taking a look back at the films that made up the run, dubbed “DCEU” by many, starting with Man of Steel back in 2013. We have made it to the finish line of the retrospective portion of Farewell DCEU! Aaron Neuwirth joins for a Summer of 93 at 30 reunion to go over Black Adam, Shazam! In this retrospective, Scott Mendelson and I (along with some guests) will be taking a look back at the films that made up the run, dubbed “DCEU” by many, starting with Man of Steel back in 2013. This 3rd segment of films could be noted as the MAX Era of the DCEU. Every single one of them premiered on MAX (2 concurrent with theatrical releases). We get another go round with Wonder Woman this time in 1984, Justice League but Zack Snyder’s version, THE Suicide Squad and then Peacemaker from that film in a tv series. Chris Johnson from The Normies (and my cohost for 2 Brandon Peters Show Live! editions this past summer), joins us for his first trip on the show proper. Products of the Panic: Indictment: The McMartin Trial (1995) with Troy Brownfield
Products of the Panic is already back. This time, Troy and I discuss one that has been mentioned a few times, INDICTMENT: THE MCMARTIN TRIAL. This is an Emmy Award winning television movie that HBO produced back in 1995 starring James Woods, Mercedes Ruehl and Henry Thomas. The film takes a look at one of the longest, most insane trials in our United States history. All based on fabrications and originated from a disturbed and mentally troubled individual. Despite clear evidence, the trial kept moving on. Satanism was at the blame out of nowhere and it fractured the lives of the innocent. -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return. Products of the Panic: Devil Worship: Exposing Satan’s Underground (1988) with Troy Brownfield
Products of the Panic is back for its third installment. This time, Troy and I look at the absolutely ludicrous Geraldo Rivera prime time special from 1988 called “Devil Worship: Exposing Satan’s Underground.” This one features loads of “bull” and even Ozzy Osbourne makes an appearance. “Products of the Panic” a recurring segment on this podcast. Show regular Troy Brownfield (The Saturday Evening Post) and I use this series to take a look at some of the media and propaganda created during the height of the Satanic Panic in the 1980s. Troy is very much an expert in the field and we’ve discussed it on more than one occasion. -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will returns Monday (10/23) with Jessica Alsman, Gregg McGoon and Rob Zombie’s Firefly Family Trilogy. Disney’s The Country Bears (2002) with Nicholas Rohrman
Nicholas Rohrman and I met this year as roomies at PopCon Louisville. He’s a talented young lad and I was excited to finally bring him on the show. We discuss his podcast/comedy group So Far So Good as well as some of his other endeavors including “Constellation Quest” (link below). He brought to the table 2002’s The Country Bears. This derided upon arrival movie delivered a lengthy discussion both in praise humor and critical analysis from us. I loved every second of it and I hope you do, too. Series 7 with Jamie Alvey
Jamie Alvey helps kick off our first movie chat of Year 4, which seems to be a trend now. But, she has exciting news as her film Bystanders is currently in post production. We talk a whole load about that. We also discuss a favorite of mine that is one of the few this side of the year 2000 to sincerely hold the “cult classic” status. Series 7 is both of and ahead of its time. A wonderful satire that also doubles as a suspenseful body count movie and endearing character piece. -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return Wednesday (10/9) with special guest Nicholas Rohrman. “Podcaster Therapy” with Jennifer Wreyford
Welcome to YEAR 4 of The Brandon Peters Show. As I normally kick off each year, one of my guests returns to reflect on the prior year of the show and stuff I aim at looking forward to. This year, however, I wanted to dig deeper. In what I’m calling “Podcaster Therapy”, I’ve brought on the show’s resident life coach Jennifer Wreyford to dive into just how tough it is to produce this show as well as the many other trades I employ while also maintaining a full time job and having a family. I hope the episode doesn’t come across as a big gripe or whining but more so to see an understanding. I thought I went quite well, and I share some things that are a bit deeper, personal and more open than I ever have before. -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return next week (10/2) with Jamie Alvey (Bystanders) to discuss the film SERIES 7 (2001) Please consider becoming a patron by going to http://patreon.com/brandonpetersshow TECHNICAL INFORMATIONVocalsBrandon – Shure SM58-LCJennifer – Unknown Microphone (Recorded with Zoom) Post ProductionNCH Wavepad Masters Edition v8.38NCH MixPad Masters v5.22The Levelator 2 RUNTIME: 101 minutes

The last piece of PopCon week on the show! Recorded live before an audience at PopCon Indy 2023. I was honored to interview Mary Mary Cosplay at Louisville PopCon, and am honored once again to interview her daughter Kim Is Possible. Kim has such a fantastic imagination and glowing personality about her fandoms and her craft. She also is a prime player in doing cosplay for disability where she spreads awareness as well as plays an advisory role. “Poorly Described Movie” Game LIVE! From PopCon with Chris Johnson
PopCon week continues with more from PopCon Indy 2023! PopCon Louisville proved to be an arena of making plenty of new friends. One of the ones I valued most was that of Chris Johnson from The Normies. He subbed for Jessica on the live show and between that and this I really enjoy our chemistry and bouncing off one another. This time Chris presented a game idea and we hashed it out and ran with it. Needless to say, it caught the attention of the PopCon crowd and became a standing room only event!
