Brandon’s Top 10 Films Of 2022

Well, this was wild, but I think it went well. No guest this week, just lil ol me. Solo. I wanted to do an audio (video if you go on YouTube) companion to my Top 10 Films of 2022 list I post on Why So Blu. Unfortunately shortly after the time the list posted, I wasill and unable to. And I had this week open, so I thought…why not? This is a bit more elaboration on my picks than the written stuff. I also go over the plan for the show over the next couple months as well as discuss some of the early returns on the recordings for The Summer of 93 at 30 (coming this May!) -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return Wednesday (1/25) with Old Space Show. Michael Knight super spy/ace detective in this one, where he races against the clock to find a key witness to get his friend off of a murder charge. Out Now Commentary – Avatar

Well, length be damned, we did a commentary for the full length of Avatar. Enjoy our conversation about the movie’s historic run, the career of James Cameron and its legacy through film technology, characters and the theme park. This is a pretty engrossing and appreciative listen which also features zero spoilers for Avatar: The Way of the The Water. Old Space Show – Knight Rider “Inside Out” with Tony Schaab

Things could only come down from last week’s high, but did they have to fall so far. We agree this is the weakest of the bunch so far, but I personally give it kudos for looking like the prototype for the first Fast and the Furious film during an action scene toward the end of the episode. Tony Schaab from ScienceFiction.com is the Companion for Knight Rider. Out Now Commentary – Alien Resurrection (1997)

In the course of out now, a majority of the Alien and Predator movies have had commentaries done. The last of the Sigourney Weaver ones to do was Alien Resurrection and it turning 25 in November of 2022 definitely helped it finally check the box off (There were a few months prior where it was up for consideration). But, this is a super fun chat on this one you need to check out. Old Space Show – Knight Rider “Trust Doesn’t Rust” with Tony Schaab

To our surprise, KITT’s big arch nemesis arrives in the 9th episode of the series; KARR! Voiced by Peter Cullen, this left for dead prototype of our hero car goes on a tear in this episode and makes it easily one of the best so far. Tony Schaab from ScienceFiction.com is the Companion for Knight Rider. Out Now Commentary – Nosferatu (1922)

While I’m taking a few weeks off, I’ll be releasing some of the past Out Now commentaries. We start with the Halloween one for Nosferatu, which turned 100 this year. It’s not only the first silent film we’ve done, it is also the oldest film we’ve done as well. Older than Peter Paras even! Here’s an episode that attempts to shake some stuff up. Devon becomes really involved with and a focus of the plot. It’s a bit of a prison thing, corrupt cops and all sorts of stuff. Tim Burton’s Big Retrospective: Wednesday (2022) with Scott Mendelson

Putting the finishing touches on our Tim Burton retrospective, Scott and I discuss (with spoilers) the smash hit Netflix show Wednesday. Burton directed the first 4 episodes and was an involved producer on the final four. It’s an interesting conversation that covers the Burton aspect, but also shines on the streaming discussion, IPs and Jenna Ortega blossoming into a potential big star with the great year she’s had. I’m going to be going on a bit of a break, so this will do it for now. I’ll be returning in a few weeks and have some plans as to what to do while we count down to The Summer of 93 at 30! A Muppet Family Christmas (1987) with Pres Maxson

I enjoy doing a special holiday episode to surrender to the season. This year’s episode was actually foreshadowed during the Almost Heroes episode back in February. So, as promised – Here is Pres and here are the Muppets! This special aired in 1987, but due to it having a crossover with the Fraggles, Sesame Street and the Muppet Babies and those rights eventually dispersing under different banners…it could no longer be sold or aired in its original form. This is a wonderful little conversation that goes over this delightful special as well as a nostalgia for the times when a “holiday special” on TV was a thing you lived for this time of year. Old Space Show – Knight Rider “Not A Drop To Drink” with Tony Schaab

Another politically infused theme of the show finds Michael helping a family to keep their land. An interesting tidbit about this episode is that it incorporates some footage from Superman: The Movie into it. Tony Schaab from ScienceFiction.com is the Companion for Knight Rider. Tim Burton’s Big Retrospective: Part Seven with Scott Mendelson

And here we are, the conclusion to the retrospective portion of the Tim Burton coverage. We discuss 3, rather enjoyable films that probably weren’t seen, seen enough or fully appreciated. Scott and I end things with some reflection, our favorites, not so favorite and overlooked ones here before we head into our Wednesday discussion next week. Old Space Show – Knight Rider “Just My Bill” with Tony Schaab

Knight Rider finds itself amid a political thriller scenario. An episode that contains a lot more Devon, it also leans heavy on the action. This one features a go for broke attitude with a lot of the biggest sequences we’ve had on display yet. “Just My Bill” also features a pair of guest stars that might bring a “who?” now but were potentially some decent gets back in 1982. Tony Schaab from ScienceFiction.com is the Companion for Knight Rider. The Brandon Peters Show will return Monday (12/14) to continue Tim Burton’s Big Retrospective. Tim Burton’s Big Retrospective: Part Six with Scott Mendelson & Sabina Graves

Here’s an interesting run on display for this one. And I’m excited we get to share it with show regular Sabina Graves, who returns to take part in the retrospective. Tim Burton sees acclaim in this one, his biggest film ever, doing one for Depp and returning to remake for Disney what once went awry. Lots and lots to discuss and plenty of Hot Topic culture and its relation to Tim Burton talk from Sabina! This episode discusses the following shows/movies: The Killers music video for “Bones” (2006)Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)Alice In Wonderland (2010)Dark Shadows (2012)Frankenweenie (2012) Please consider becoming a patron by going to http://patreon.com/brandonpetersshow The Brandon Peters Show is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeartRadio, Stitcher and anywhere podcasts are found. Old Space Show – Knight Rider “Slammin’ Sammy’s Stunt Show Spectacular” with Tony Schaab

Well, that’s a tongue twister of an episode title, isn’t it? This episode offers plenty of car stunts by revolving around a stunt show. This episode is a bit goofy, but we have some fun chatting about it. Notably lacking here is Bonnie, whom we have just met and has already taken an episode off. Perhaps this was shot before she was a part of the cast? All this and more in our latest Knight Rider adventure. Tony Schaab from ScienceFiction.com is the Companion for Knight Rider. Tim Burton’s Big Retrospective: Part Five with Scott Mendelson

In this episode, we watch as Tim bounces back from the quality failing that was Planet of the Apes. We’ll see him with Oscar hopes, more animation and a film that was much liked when it came out and holds up quite well, yet has gathered a reputation for being poor in the past decade or so. This was another invigorating conversation with Scott as this series has proven very fun. What kind of vehicle can you pit against KITT? Well, how about some motorcycles? Michael takes on some bikers that threaten a small town. Tim Burton’s Big Retrospective: Part Four with Scott Mendelson

Here we are, our first episode with some ups and downs. It also includes 2 of the biggest highs and a film Brandon calls “Ultimate Burton”. One of the misses is a fascinating one and the other just doesn’t get any better the more you return to it. Another great discussion with Scott and I. Old Space Show – Knight Rider “Deadly Maneuvers” with Tony Schaab

While its the third episode aired, there’s a lot of dialogue hints that it may not have been the intended third in order. It’s an interesting mystery/whodunnit type episode that continues to showcase a rather strong action show about a man and his talking car. This episode we show some of our continued surprise and appreciation for the series and I point out something unique and interesting about David Hasselhoff’s Michael Knight. Tim Burton’s Big Retrospective: Part Three with Scott Mendelson

If there’s one thing you know about Scott and I, it’s that we will forever be grateful for and also talk the hell out of Tim Burton and his Batman movies. This episode features a lot of reprises of past recorded conversations, some old jokes and maybe a few new surprises. But, hell…it could be new to you, it could be the greatest hits. Most of all, enjoy this run of excellence from Mr. Burton and our thoughts on it. Old Space Show – Knight Rider “Knight of the Phoenix” with Tony Schaab

Turning 40 years young this year is a show I fell in love with at the absolute youngest I could have been when it aired (We’re the same age). In this first episode, Tony and I recollect the show and the times of when it first came out. This launch of the show was a TV movie but aired in syndication in 2 parts. We’re covering it all here. TBPS EP075: Out There Halloween Mega Tape (2022) with Troy Brownfield

And here we are. Something I never knew was in the works or “out there” until just a fews weeks or months ago. A sequel to my beloved WNUF Halloween Special. This second addition to the television nostalgia found footage flick of 2013 jumps ahead to the 1990s and parodies the likes of Ricki Lake talks shows and the Fox “Alien Autopsy” paranormal specials. Of course there are commercials galore and some surprising developments with stories and figures from the previous film. Troy and I deliver another treat. Our lengthy conversation contains a lot of personal experiences, anecdotes and one hell of a reflection from Troy regarding the vampire guy in the talk show. You don’t want to miss it. WNUF Halloween Special (2013) with Jessica Alsman

If you’ve been following my podcasting adventures, you’ll know I’ve done this movie before as an episode of my previous podcast. Well, in order to get your ready for next week when I discuss the brand new sequel, I thought it would be best to refresh on WNUF Halloween Special and introduce Jessica and you the listener to it. This film hits me in a very specific nostalgic pinch and I’ve adored it since I first took it in. The film has become a traditional watch for me and I’ve wanted to learn everything I can about it and have watched my Vinegar Syndrome partner label Blu-ray of it up and down. Frank Stewart rules. The content not only fits the commercials segment that Jessica and I do, but also the Satanic Panic stuff Troy and I do. He’ll be on to talk about the sequel next week. He and I discussed it back on my old show which you can seek out on the pod streams. I had a great time revisiting this and I hope you did too or loved discovering it for the first time. -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return Wednesday (10/26) with Old Space Show TECHNICAL INFORMATIONVocalsBrandon – Shure SM58-LCJessica – Unknown Microphone (Recorded with Zoom) Post ProductionNCH Wavepad Masters Edition v8.38NCH MixPad Masters v5.22The Levelator 2 RUNTIME: 70 minutes WNUF Halloween Special is available on DVD & Blu-ray. Old Space Show – Blake’s 7 “Bounty” with Steven Schapansky

Our discussion this episode is a fantastic one that goes on a side discussion of a bigger topic as Steven and I go over some unfortunate misguided racism in old production and how it has been in programs like Blake’s 7 and our beloved Doctor Who. EP073: Practical Magic (1998) with Greg McGoon

I dig a good left turn on the show. Sure, Practical Magic isn’t a horror film in October, but its story of witches and has a VERY fall feeling. Plus it’s a pretty legitimate cult classic and you know I’m always down for those. Greg leads the charge here as he dives very deeply into the film, which hits him pretty personally. I also make a big gaffe and continue with it, mixing up my Last Summers from the previous episode where this movie came out at the same time as I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and NOT the first one. So, excuse my “25th anniversary” and mention it playing alongside the original. I’m 40 now, I get confused. -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return Wednesday (10/19) with Old Space Show TECHNICAL INFORMATIONVocalsBrandon – Shure SM58-LCGreg – Laptop Microphone (Recorded with Zoom) Post ProductionNCH Wavepad Masters Edition v8.38NCH MixPad Masters v5.22The Levelator 2 RUNTIME: 122 minutes Practical Magic is available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray. I Know What You Did Last Summer Film Trilogy with Jessica Alsman & Greg McGoon

This is an episode I’ve been wanting to do for quite some time and it went better than I’d even hoped. Greg and Jessica join me for a discussion of not just the first movie, but all 3 I Know What You Did Last Summer movies. We even touch on the 2021 television series at the end. While they’ve been derided since upon arrival, I’ve always quite enjoyed the first one and even though its pretty dumb, much of the 2nd as well. I admittedly hadn’t seen the 3rd since I bought the DVD back in 2006 (Yes, I still own it). And…you’re in for something special with this. I have a pretty personal story as an anecdote to the first film. I hope you listeners enjoy that and our enjoyment of the absurdity in the plot of I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return Wednesday (10/12) with Old Space Show TECHNICAL INFORMATIONVocalsBrandon – Shure SM58-LCJessica – Unknown Microphone (Recorded with Zoom)Greg – Laptop Microphone (Recorded with Zoom) Post ProductionNCH Wavepad Masters Edition v8.38NCH MixPad Masters v5.22The Levelator 2 RUNTIME: 156 minutes I Know What You Did Last Summer is available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray. This episode is one big Star War knock off and we are absolutely here for it. Sabotage! Escape! Shootouts! Deception! The House Of The Devil (2009) with Jamie Alvey

Well, it’s been quite some time since we’ve had a normal, straightforward episode of the show. A combination of things happened here. I wanted a little break after working hard on The Summer of 82 at 40 series, I had a vacation the first week of September and then I caught Covid pretty bad from said Vacation. But, I appear to be good now and am ready to get back to the grind. The originally planned episode for the end of September didn’t quite work out, but no worries (Greg will be on next week). Jamie Alvey returns to help kick off Year 3 here on the show and our October month of some spooky stuff. We are discussing a personal favorite horror film of mine, Ti West’s 2009 film, The House of the Devil. Well before Stranger Things brought back the 80s nostalgia and before The Artist made a Best Picture movie of a throwback film, Ti West nailed it better than them all in his 3rd film which features triple threat darling, Greta Gerwig in a supporting role. I drool over this film a lot, but Jamie and I have a fantastic conversation about it. -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return Wednesday (10/5) with Old Space Show TECHNICAL INFORMATIONVocalsBrandon – Shure SM58-LCJamie – Laptop Microphone (Recorded with Zoom) Post ProductionNCH Wavepad Masters Edition v8.38NCH MixPad Masters v5.22The Levelator 2 RUNTIME: 78 minutes The House of the Devil is available on DVD and Blu-ray. Travis is back in the fold and we are introduced to a new being called a Mutoid. This planet of one on one to the death episode is filled with good entertainment and intrigue. Kiss Me Deadly has been on the Out Now bucket list for a while now. We discuss why and then dive into the 1955 noir classic that is quite punk rock for its time and genre. Age has been kind to this stylistic and highly influential pot boiler. It also features the film debut of Cloris Leachmann. Okay, okay – THIS is the final send off for The Summer of 82 at 40! We needed a music video to go with this bonus episode. I give you the biggest hit song of 1982 with the guy who put together the biggest song of this summer – Pres Maxson. We discuss the late Olivia Newton-John’s wild and controversial video for the song and awe at the music which it outsold and uncharted during the entire decade (Michael Jackson, who?). Closing With A Song “Abracadabra” by Steve Miller Band with Troy Brownfield

Our last song with Troy on The Summer of ’82 at 40 is another one that took a while to be a big hit. Steve Miller Band is a well known commodity, though I’m not sure much in the way of music videos. Troy and I talk this weird one that is a total relic of the time and an early exploratory time with the art of the video.
