Closing With A Song “One Week” by Barenaked Ladies with Steven Schapansky
We close the show with “One Week” which spent one week at number one on the charts. The Barenaked Ladies hail from my neighbor to the north, Canada, as does my guest Steven Schapansky of Radio Free Skaro. We talk this wild McG directed video and Steven provides a wonderful perspective on the Barenaked Ladies from their roots. This video is mostly flash, but with Geoff Arbuckle in tow I knew the conversation would fly and be a lot of fun. And it surely is. I think you’re really going to enjoy us trying to make sense of this one! The Brandon Peters Show will return next week! Old Space Show: Space: 1999 “New Adam, New Eve”
We get a veteran of the Puppet Master franchise here to play God as well as matchmaker in another wacky rendition of Space: 1999’s second season. And our regular reminder, we are going through Space: 1999 in the production order, not broadcast order. Streaming services have them in broadcast order, so be careful if you’re going to follow along. We are following the order in the Shout! Factory Blu-ray set. Jim Dietz from the Nothing’s On Podcast and the HHWLOD Network is the Co-Captain for the second season of Space: 1999. The Brandon Peters Show will return Friday (12/3) to close with a song. This Is Spinal Tap with Steven Schapansky
Being a podcaster, people wonder what I myself listen to in the podcast realm. It’s not much honestly, but one program I never miss an episode of is Radio Free Skaro. Of course that’s no surprise with my Doctor Who fandom, but the show keeps me coming back because of its production value, level headedness of the hosts and the more interesting aspects in which it tackles the now 58 year old program. So, I reached out to its creator, Steven Schapansky, to come on the show. I admire Steven’s work in podcasting quite a bit as he has a very well rounded approach and understanding of what makes things tick. In addition to Radio Free Skaro, he also has other terrific Doctor Who shows as well (Lazy Doctor Who, Doctor Who: The Memory Cheats). Steven brought to the table This Is Spinal Tap, one of the finest and most influential comedies ever made. We have a pretty rich discussion on the film, but we also talk A LOT about Doctor Who which is to be expected. I hope you enjoy this episode that was a delight to have on a podcaster that I respect and actually listen to regularly myself, only to find he’s just as wonderful a human as he comes off on during his show. 0:01:05 – Meet Steven Schapansky + Lots of Doctor Who talk0:33:26 – This Is Spinal Tap Discussion1:06:41 – What Else (Lots of James Bond talk) -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return Wednesday (12/1) with Old Space Show. Closing With A Song “Informer” by Snow with Geoff Arbuckle
Well, it’s December now and with it comes…Snow! Certainly something you had to be there to believe. “Informer” was a big #1 hit from a white Canadian reggae artist. Yeah, that’s correct. This video is mostly flash, but with Geoff Arbuckle in tow I knew the conversation would fly and be a lot of fun. And it surely is. 2021 Blu-ray Holiday Gift Guide with Geoff Arbuckle
With the great response from this episode last year, plus my passion for collecting Blu-rays, I am doing another Gift Guide episode for Blu-rays. Apologies to the video game and comics & collectibles crowd, but there wasn’t time to get those done this year. Geoff Arbuckle of Film Seizure and B-Movie Enema joins up. He and I have spent many a Vinegar Syndrome and Severin sale sharing our triumphs and check out issues over social media. Closing With A Song “Breaking The Law” by Judas Priest with Jim Dietz
Keeping with our Satanic Panic theme going, there’s no better band to focus on than Judas Priest. They actually went on trial for supposed subliminal messaging on their albums causing murders in the 1980s. Insane stuff. We brush on it a bit. “Breaking the Law” is one of their grooviest music videos and it’s so very metal. Jim Dietz (Nothing’s On), my Old Space Show Co-Captain makes his first appearance on Closing With A Song as we get a kick out of this 80s metal gem. Caverns on Alpha? People frozen in said caverns? King Tut en vogue for Archanon? Football of Friendship? Yes, we go over these kinds of things in this episode. Products Of The Panic: Hell’s Bells – Dangers of Rock ‘N Roll (1989) with Troy Brownfield, Part Two
We return with part 2 of our Hell’s Bells discussion. Hell’s Bells is a 3 hour documentary that goes after the rock and 80s heavy metal scene as well as just general pop music. It’s available to watch on YouTube or Archive.org. It’s insane to believe that this was made and hear the things said in it. And Troy and I do not hold back on our reactions and thoughts. This half of the film includes some wild accusatory statements as well as a focus on backmasking. Backmasking is basically hidden messages put in reverse on records. The things they come up with here are absolutely batty too. We had plenty of fun with this part. “Products of the Panic” a recurring segment on this podcast. Show regular Troy Brownfield (The Saturday Evening Post) and I use this series to take a look at some of the media and propaganda created during the height of the Satanic Panic in the 1980s. Troy is very much an expert in the field and we’ve discussed it on more than one occasion. -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return Wednesday (11/17) with Old Space Show TECHNICAL INFORMATION VocalsBrandon – Shure SM58-LCTroy – Laptop Microphone (Recorded with Zoom) Post ProductionNCH Wavepad Masters Edition v8.38NCH MixPad Masters v5.22The Levelator 2 RUNTIME: 64 min Hell’s Bells: Dangers of Rock ‘N Roll is available on archive.org.
Closing With A Song “Venus” by Bananarama with Troy Brownfield
Wow – It’s been over a month since we did a music video episode! Bananrama was an easy choice as it was featured in the documentary we were discussing on Monday. “Venus” is actually a cover song made even more famous than before with Bananarama. Troy is back to discuss the video. When studying and writing for this video I went down a listening hole and found myself really loving a lot of what Bananarama was offering. Any big fans out there among my listeners? The Brandon Peters Show will return Monday (11/15) with PART TWO of Hell’s Bells: Dangers of Rock ‘N Roll (1989) with Troy Brownfield. Old Space Show: Space: 1999 “The Rules of Luton”
Normally Jim and I are pretty eye to eye on these Space: 1999 episodes. With “The Rules of Luton” we have an episode that has somewhat split us. It’s an episode that is a take on Star Trek as well as Lost In Space. Where do you fall on this one? And our regular reminder, we are going through Space: 1999 in the production order, not broadcast order. Streaming services have them in broadcast order, so be careful if you’re going to follow along. We are following the order in the Shout! Factory Blu-ray set. Products Of The Panic: Hell’s Bells – Dangers of Rock ‘N Roll (1989) with Troy Brownfield, PART ONE
Today starts a new recurring segment called “Products of the Panic”. Show regular Troy Brownfield (The Saturday Evening Post) and I will use this series to take a look at some of the media and propaganda created during the height of the Satanic Panic in the 1980s. Troy is very much an expert in the field and we’ve discussed it on more than one occasion. Our first subject is a 3 hour documentary called Hell’s Bells. This one really goes after the rock and heavy metal scene as well as just general pop music. It’s available to watch on YouTube or Archive.org. It’s insane to believe that this was made and hear the things said in it. And Troy and I do not hold back on our reactions and thoughts. This conversation is rather lengthy and that’s no surprise considering it’s a 3 hour film. I’ve split our session in two. You’ll get the other half of it next week. So for now, enjoy this first hour of our chat about Hell’s Bells. -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return Wednesday (11/10) with Old Space Show TECHNICAL INFORMATION VocalsBrandon – Shure SM58-LCTroy – Laptop Microphone (Recorded with Zoom) Post ProductionNCH Wavepad Masters Edition v8.38NCH MixPad Masters v5.22The Levelator 2 RUNTIME: 64 min Hell’s Bells: Dangers of Rock ‘N Roll is available on archive.org.
Old Space Show: Space: 1999 “The Taybor”
Space: 1999’s second season has been a change of pace from the first season, but this episode got really more wild and weird. We get a Brian Blessed like guest star whose attire looks like the regurgitation of 1980s female aimed cartoon programming. Strap in as Jim and I digest it all. And our regular reminder, we are going through Space: 1999 in the production order, not broadcast order. Out Now Commentary – Halloween (2018)
Sure, Halloween was yesterday, but why not one last good scare. The commentary for October on Out Now With Aaron and Abe was 2018’s Halloween that brought back Jamie Lee Curtis and John Carpenter. While I was part of the discussion on Out Now With Aaron & Abe about the film weekend of release, it was great to go back and revisit and talk about it with 3 years of age under its belt. Tales From The Crypt “Collection Completed” with Michelle Suter-Shoemaker
What a fun week it’s been talking Tales From The Crypt with friends on the show! We close out with the appropriately titled “Collection Completed” featuring the return of Michelle Suter-Shoemaker. Michelle, who is the horror host of sorts for the anthology horror podcast we produce called Don’t Flinch. Feels right to have her here to close out. This episode comes from Mary Lambert, the director of Pet Sematary and knowing that feels like this episode was crafted to harness in on that. It also features a pretty raging performance from M. Emmett Walsh. Tales closes its first season out on a more comedic note. -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return Monday (11/1) with the Out Now Commentary for Halloween (2018) TECHNICAL INFORMATION VocalsBrandon – Shure SM58-LCMichelle – Unknown Microphone (Recorded with Zoom) Post ProductionNCH Wavepad Masters Edition v8.38NCH MixPad Masters v5.22The Levelator 2 RUNTIME: 25 min Tales From The Crypt is available on DVD.
Tales From The Crypt “Lover Come Hack To Me” with Pacing Pete
Some new blood joins on the show as I welcome the other half of the Halloween Never Dies podcast, Pacing Pete! You know his co host Sabina Graves quite well, now enjoy her wonderful counterpart. Pete gives us an update and some changes going on with their show as well as giving his history of Tales From The Crypt watching growing up. We discuss a very interesting, very adult, very HBO episode of the show from Tom Holland – the man who gave us Fright Night and Chucky! There’s not a whole lot to chew on with this Amanda Plummer-led episode, but Pacing Pete and I got some really good mileage out of this episode and I was quite thrilled with the discussion. -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return tomorrow (10/29) for the conclusion of season 1 of Tales From The Crypt. Tales From The Crypt “Only Sin Deep” with Danielle Sepulveres
Of course I’d have Danielle Sepulveres return for this. I always enjoy her perspective and insight on damn near anything. We get to discuss a truly interesting gem of the season that features Lea Thompson and the director of Pretty In Pink & Some Kind of Wonderful (her husband, Howard Deutch) teaming up for this tale of vanity and murder. This one truly feels tied to a type that only Tale From The Crypt can deliver and not the other anthologies. Danielle and I do go off topic, but it’s a great picture painted of the atmosphere of late night TV viewing in our youth and the sort of things surrounding and available at the same time Tales From The Crypt was on the air. -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return tomorrow (10/28) with more Tales From The Crypt. Tales From The Crypt “Dig That Cat…He’s Real Gone” with Aaron Neuwirth
I let Aaron Neuwirth have his pick of the litter with these episodes, though I knew when I said I had a Richard Donner one available, he’d go for it. We take a look at one of the most interesting pieces Donner has directed as it feels much more abstract than any of his more workman-like directed film career. It also has Joey Pants and him dying lots and lots of times. -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return tomorrow (10/27) with more Tales From The Crypt. Tales From The Crypt “And All Through The House” with Katie Rife
Our week-long look at the remainder of the first season of Tales From The Crypt starts today! And joining for the second episode “And All Through The House” is the person who pitched me this idea earlier this year – The AV Club’s Katie Rife! Katie is a huge EC comics nut and a lover of all things killer Santa Claus. We have a blast going over the Robert Zemeckis directed, Fred Dekker written, Dean Cundey shot, Alan Silvestri scored, Mary Ellen Trainor starring loaded episode. Our episode is loaded as well. Katie and I enjoy talking with one another and we oddly are off but still somewhat on topic during this. I left a lot of extra in because I dug the conversation. So, yeah, enjoy this 67 minute discussion on a 22 minute episode of Tales From The Crypt! -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return tomorrow (10/26) with more Tales From The Crypt. Old Space Show: Space: 1999 “Journey To Where”
What an episode title, eh? This one finds the Alphans sort of close to home, yet so far away. There’s material here that feels like it could have been two separate episodes. We divulge in this unique journey (to where) that features Tony as a craft brewing enthusiast. And our regular reminder, we are going through Space: 1999 in the production order, not broadcast order. Tales From The Crypt “The Man Who Was Death” with Jessica Alsman
For some October fun this year on the show, in addition to the Out Now with Aaron and Abe Horror Specials, we’ll be taking a look at the first season of HBO’s big time horror series Tales From The Crypt! The show featured big time actors, directors and writers coming together for some lovely anthology horror. The show even spun off into a kids’ Saturday morning cartoon and wound up with two feature film releases. Of course you’re familiar with it and the Crypt Keeper, surely. You’re also familiar with Jessica Alsman, who is helping kick it off. We’ll be doing the first episode this week. Welp, we have hit a rocky, tough spot here on Space: 1999. “All That Glisters” doesn’t provide much glister, but Jim and I do our best to power through it. This episode was quite a swing and miss from Moonbase Alpha. And our regular reminder, we are going through Space: 1999 in the production order, not broadcast order. Closing With A Song “Tonight, Tonight” by Smashing Pumpkins with Pres Maxson
Wow! We made it through the week! As we always do here on The Brandon Peters Show, we close it out with a song…or music video discussion rather! And as I have been doing what I want all week with the movies, here’s a music video and band I’ve been holding onto for a big occasion. Smashing Pumpkins were HUGE for me in my teen years. They were my first ever “favorite band” from my youth. “Tonight, Tonight” wasn’t just a massive single and music video for them, it was one of the greatest music videos of all time. This juggernaut, based on the silent short film A Trip To The Moon was a raging success. You couldn’t avoid it flipping on MTV at any given point in the day. Author Pres Maxson joins to help lower the curtain on this week. Since he infamously said he hates music videos on his last appearance on the show, I found it fitting for him to come back and try again. I think he wanted to go for the record of longest music video episode and by golly, he achieved it. There’s a lot of off topic and random side conversations more era specific, but I kept them in, cuz why the the hell not. Enjoy! The Brandon Peters Show will return! Sorcerer (1977)
As we land on Sorcerer, we hit a film that is huge to me. This was one of those old films that was “new to me” in 2014. And boy, was I friggin impressed. This film really struck me and I’ve been sort of obsessed with it since. I cannot get enough of Sorcerer. And when I started this show, I really wanted to dedicate an episode to the very overlooked film from the director of The Exorcist. I’ve finally brought Justin Beahm back for this one. He’s someone I knew would have a great take on the film. He’d also never seen the movie prior to watching for this episode (As a matter of fact, ALL the films were new to my guests this week). Will Justin like the film? Listen in and see. But seriously, Sorcerer is a film that is just an impressive cinematic achievement and one of the most insane productions ever to happen. If you know a thing or two about how films are made and how they were made back in the 1970s…check out Sorcerer, and be sure not to have your jaw hit the floor to hard when it drops during some of these spectacular sequences! -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return tomorrow (10/1) with guest Pres Maxson (Author, Kevin on Earth) to discuss the music video for Smashing Pumpkins’ “Tonight, Tonight” as we close this week with a song. Sound Of My Voice (2011) with Jamie Alvey
Sound of My Voice was a film that struck me, stuck with me and I continue to think about to this day. A little film that has big ideas and so much to say. These are the types of science fiction movies that impress me so much and the kind I dig and dig and search for all the time trying to get my next fix. Jamie Alvey was the perfect person to bring on for this one in more ways than I realized when I asked if she’d like to come back for this celebratory week. It was oddly a similar kind of movie to the one she had picked in her first appearance on the show. This movie has so much to unpack and we roll it by, step by step. We have a lot of ideas, theories and wonderful discourse and dissection of this film while marveling at all it’s accomplished. As a bonus, if you watch the YouTube edition of this episode, you’ll get to see plenty of cute puppy action going on in the background. -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return tomorrow (9/30) with Sorcerer (1977) featuring guest Justin Beahm (Reverend Entertainment) TECHNICAL INFORMATION VocalsBrandon – Shure SM58-LCJamie – Laptop Microphone (Recorded with Zoom) Post ProductionNCH Wavepad Masters Edition v8.38NCH MixPad Masters v5.22The Levelator 2 RUNTIME: 84 minutes Sound of My Voice is currently streaming on MAX GO and DirecTV. Bucktown (1975) with Audery Lane
Audery Lane is back! She’s always game and ready upon receiving the call to come and guest on the show. I’m lucky to have someone with such talent and great analysis that is excited to be on the show! For this episode, I’m bringing a completely forgotten flick to the table: BUCKTOWN. I didn’t know it existed myself until the mid-2000s. Being a big fan of both Pam Grier and Fred Williamson, I’m stunned that I and others still to this day don’t know of a big movie that they teamed up for at the height of their powers. PLUS – it features the cinematic debut of Carl Weathers! Why do we not talk about this movie more? Bucktown brings a lot of ideas to the table, while also delivering the goods of the black action films of the era. Audery and I don’t hold back and talk all about every bit of it and have a fantastic discussion on a film I love that I never imagined would be this good. Your ears are in for treat! -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return tomorrow (9/29) with Sound of My Voice (2011) featuring guest Jamie Alvey (Devil’s Kettle Drama Club, Morbidly Beautiful) TECHNICAL INFORMATION VocalsBrandon – Shure SM58-LCAudery – Smartphone Microphone (Recorded with Zoom) Post ProductionNCH Wavepad Masters Edition v8.38NCH MixPad Masters v5.22The Levelator 2 RUNTIME: 71 minutes Bucktown is available on DVD. Blood and Black Lace (1964) with Greg McGoon
Well, we’ve done it! We have completed 1 year of the show and now are moving into YEAR TWO! To mark this occasion, I’m flipping what I did during the first year on its head. For the past year, it has been guests bringing films that are unique favorites to the table and discussing them. This week you’ll be getting FOUR episodes with returning guests and discussing films that are unique favorites of MINE! We start out with Greg McGoon leading the charge. From your feedback, you all seem to love Greg, so he returns to help reflect on Year ONE and interviews/questions me regarding things about the show. He’s also got some VERY EXCITING news at the end of the show. I’ve brought to the table Blood and Black Lace. As you may know from listening, I’m a lifelong lover of slasher movies as well as the fact I’m in this phase of my life where I’m in love with Italian horror of the 70s and 80s. Blood and Black Lace is pretty much the giallo film that was the one from which they all cribbed and it inspired a lot. Plus it’s just a beauty to look at. Greg had never seen the film and isn’t too familiar with Italian horror films, so I found this one could be a nice gateway for him. Perhaps its one for you as well? 00:00:43 Greg Interviews Brandon00:25:13 Blood and Black Lace Discussion -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return tomorrow (9/28) with Bucktown (1975) featuring guest Audery Lane (PopCon Film Festival) TECHNICAL INFORMATION VocalsBrandon – Shure SM58-LCGreg – Laptop Microphone (Recorded with Zoom) Post ProductionNCH Wavepad Masters Edition v8.38NCH MixPad Masters v5.22The Levelator 2 RUNTIME: 98 minutes Blood & Black Lace is available on DVD & Blu-ray. Old Space Show: Space: 1999 “The Exiles”
Jim and I are officially back in the saddle. Moonbase Alpha comes across the plot of Star Trek Into Darkness and a pair of exiled beings that look like professional figure skaters. Plenty of fun, plenty of wacky and plenty of weird in this Space: 1999 adventure. And our regular reminder, we are going through Space: 1999 in the production order, not broadcast order. Streaming services have them in broadcast order, so be careful if you’re going to follow along. We are following the order in the Shout! Factory Blu-ray set. Out Now Commentary – Unforgiven (1992)
I may be taking a week off from the show proper, but HEY – this was fittingly perfect timing as there’s still a movie to talk about. Time for the Out Now Commentary. This month, since Clint Eastwood has a new film out (Cry Macho), and since we hadn’t done a film of his yet, we’ve decided to do a commentary for his seminal apex UNFORGIVEN. Closing With A Song “Pressure” by Billy Joel with Scott Mendelson
When it comes to artists that consistently went all in and produced provocative, memorable and big theatrical music videos, Billy Joel was one of the tops. Beyond having an incredible assembly of amazing, timeless songs, the man put together a great library of music videos as well. “Pressure” is also one of the bigger, stand out videos in the early days of MTV as well. It’s one that calls back to Kubrick, The Parallax View and The Marathon Man among other films. Scott Mendelson rejoins as we talk about the video as well as veer off on discussions of the homages. Old Space Show: Space: 1999 “The Metamorph”
Jim Dietz & Space: 1999 are back! We begin the journey on the other side, or back half of the series to see it to complete. Space: 1999’s second season is notorious for a shift and lots of changes and it’s readily apparent right away. It felt good to get back in the saddle with Mr. Dietz, I hope everyone is excited for this popular series to pick up again! 16 Blocks (2006) with Scott Mendelson
We’ve reached the 1 year milestone here on The Brandon Peters Show. Fitting enough, I’ve chosen to bring back the original guest, Forbes’ Scott Mendelson, to cap it all off! Has the show evolved or changed a lot since the first episode dropped? I’m sure it has, but you tell me. Scott and I are discussing the final film of the recently departed Richard Donner this week. 16 Blocks is a film that came and went and largely was forgotten. It’s been one that has stuck with Scott and I. We are quite high on it. It’s a terrific film that we both consider the best possible “final Die Hard movie” that you could ever ask for. In addition to the movie talk, Scott and I banter back and forth about all things box office and current movie stuff as we do. Thanks to those of you who listen and enjoy all that. And especially for checking out this show and giving it even a couple seconds of your time the past year! 00:00:58 Catching Up With Scott00:18:59 16 Blocks Discussion00:51:23 What Else -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return on 9/15 with the return of Old Space Show & Co-Captain Jim Dietz. Closing With A Song “Bye Bye Bye” by NSYNC with Jessica Alsman
I’m unleashing a beast. A huge music video. One of the biggest ever. NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye” doesn’t even need to be rewatched to remember every detail of it. The video. The song. They were in constant rotation everywhere. I don’t care how cool or too good for this you think you were…you knew every damn lyric to it. There are heavy hitters when it comes to these music videos and this is one of the heaviest. Jessica Alsman joins me to recapture this particular era or capsule in time of NSYNC’s huge leap as well as TRL culture when it came out. This is a big one. Thank you for joining us for it! Welp, this is it. We have reached the final episode ever of The Heights. .This one never aired in the United States as it was canceled and lifted from the schedule after the previous episode. The Heights “Talk To An Angel” SPECIAL EDITION with Jessica Alsman
As fate would have it, right after Jessica and I recorded our finale for Old Teen Show: The Heights, the first episode was uncovered. We were pretty enthused to not only record again so quickly, but to actually get to see where it all started out. We decided to make a week of it all. So consider this in place of the typical main episode this week. We dive in and have lots to cover here before the finale tomorrow. Jessica will return for some music video chat at the end of the week as well. I got the vibe you all wanted some more of The Heights, happy to be able to provide just one more for ya! Closing With A Song “Simple Kind Of Life” by No Doubt with Sabina Graves
I pay close attention to my guests; what they say, things they might drop in passing, social media…la la la. Back when we recorded the “Best Soundtrack Songs of the 90s” episode, I remember Sabina Graves saying that No Doubt was one of her favorites and specifically the Return of Saturn album. So here we are, talking about the goddess Gwen Stefani and their most successful track critically and commercially from the album, “Simple Kind of Life”. While the video failed to make waves on TRL, it holds an iconic status with really strong, memorable imagery from the band. As mentioned, Sabina Graves returns and we reminisce pretty strongly focused on the song and the video. The Brandon Peters Show will return. Meet The Robinsons (2007) with Sabina Graves
One of my favorite parts about this show, and having my guests drive the movie choices, is the bounce from week to week. What other movie podcast goes from Friday the 13th to Disney family cartoon one week to the next? This one, that’s what the hell one does. Sabina Graves returns for her third appearance on the show. She’s been one half of the Halloween Never Dies this whole year and I wanted to dive more into the background, behind the scenes and experience of the wonderful show her and Pacing Pete have been putting on that revolves around my favorite film series. And in great contrast to death, scares and violence, we have a heartwarming and delightful little film in Meet The Robinsons. I’d go so far as to call this one of the bonafide cult classics of the modern millenium even though it brandishes the Disney moniker on it. It’s still very much underseen and underappreciated. Hopefully our chat sends you to discover it or give it another shot yourself! 00:01:14 Halloween Never Dies Chat00:16:37 Meet The Robinsons Discussion00:58:19 What Else -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return on 9/1 with Old Teen Show. Closing With A Song “This Woman’s Work” by Kate Bush with James Oster
The last time he was on, James Oster told me he’d love to do a Kate Bush music video sometime on the show. Familiar with the name, but not so much with the music, Jimmy gave me some recommendations and I wound up knowing a few tunes but also loving the the songs as well as the both wacky and impressive videos she puts forth. “This Woman’s Work” was made famous by the John Hughes film She’s Having A Baby, but also has a great music video itself! As mentioned, James Oster returns to share his love of Kate Bush. Due to technical problems with video, this week I’m releasing this episode in its uncut form. Due to copyright and fair use laws as well as Apple and Spotify sweeps for such things, I’m not going to roll the dice and be including a clip of the song in the episode. Out Now Commentary – Candyman (1992)
With a brand new take on Candyman upon us, it’s high time to revisit the original, stone cold classic. Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan with James Oster
During the World Film Project series, we passed by a Friday the 13th! No, I didn’t forget. I didn’t want to interrupt, quickly end or overshadow that run of episodes. And as Jimmy O and I always say…you don’t just have to wait until Friday the 13th to watch, talk about or record episodes of these movies. So, we are living up to that. We move on to Jason Takes Manhattan, not one of the more beloved in the series, but with plenty to appreciate. And, these are always fun to talk about. This one gets tagged with “Jason takes a boat” or “Jason takes a cruise” rather than Manhattan and we nip that in the bud right off the bat. Yes, we have our normal superlatives at the end, in place of What Else this week. We’ve only 2 in the Friday the 13th series remaining to hit around these dates, which is crazy to think, going back to my old podcast. Should we just start over when we are done? Tackle a new horror franchise? Let me and Jimmy know! -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return on 8/25 with Old Teen Show. Closing With A Song “The Way I Am” by Ingrid Michaelson with Sharareh Drury
Maybe it’s fandom. Maybe it’s a crush. Maybe it’s admiration. But, whatever, I enjoy the heck out of Ingrid Michaelson, both her music and as a person. I’ve seen her in concert a handful of times and will continue to seek her out and she’s a great entertainer. “The Way I Am” was her breakthrough single back in 2006 and comes from the director of last year’s film Emma with Anya Taylor Joy. It’s simple with a good message. Sharareh Drury returns to share her enjoyment of the song as well as close out her 3 week stint on the show. A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night (2014) with Sharareh Drury
Big caveat here on this week’s third and final entry into this first session of World Film Project. Yes, I’m very aware A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night was shot in California by UK born director Ana Lily Amirpour (who IS of Iranian descent). HOWEVER, please listen in and hear why I am vouching for this film to qualify for the Wolf Film Project. Sharareh and I are both big fans of this little Leone-Western inspired vampire film. And every time I return to it, Amirpour’s film becomes even more spectacular. A fun behind the scenes tid bit, back in February when Sharareh guest for Persepolis, it was between that film and A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night to discuss. At the time, I pitched her this idea and we agreed to include this film as a part of this series and hold off. Now we are here. There is SO MUCH to digest in this one, and it’s a hell of a way to close out this inaugural run for the little international series we plan to return to time and time again. A special thanks to Sharareh for taking on a 3 week stint on the show, its been a big win. And I look forward to her next time on the show as well as when whenever it is we pick up for a second World Film Project. 0:06:47 – A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night Discussion0:67:58 – What Else -Brandon The Brandon Peters Show will return on 8/18 with Old Teen Show.
