President and CEO of the Heinz History Center Andy Masich
There is a new attraction in the Strip District. The Heinz History Center unveiled the 35 foot tall Heinz Ketchup bottle that used to be part of Heinz Field, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now it can be seen at 12th and Smallman Streets in downtown. Andy Masich, president and CEO of the Heinz History Center, says the bottle is now very close to one of the goalposts from Three Rivers Stadium. The bottle was used for 21 years, pouring its contents down the scoreboard when the Steelers entered the red zone.

College students have wrapped up the fall semester and are home for winter break, but what should they be doing with that time away from campus. Should students be without their phones in class?
An Orange County school in Florida took away students' phones for the school day. Students are a lot more engaged in discussions without their phones. One school is seeing great results without phones at students' disposal. Could we see this more often? What is the downside of not having phones? Students can pay more attention and possibly learn more because they are focused. We heard from callers on what should happen with students and their phones in school. One exception is for medical conditions and keeping them in their backpack. A caller thinks taking phones away from students at school will help them socialize and have a better experience in class.

The importance of mammograms
New research from the American Cancer Society says sticking to your scheduled mammograms can significantly reduce your risk of death from breast cancer. Moreover, women who got all the scheduled mammograms had a 66% to 72% reduced risk of breast cancer death. Dr. Matt Miller, MD joined the Rick Dayton Show to talk about the new research numbers and why early detection is critical. He also talked about when is the right time for women to start their annual breast mammograms.

Got extra scrubs?
The Allegheny County Medical Society is conducting a Scrubs Clothing Drive during the month of December. Everything that is donated will go to Dress for Success Pittsburgh. That makes a very big difference for the non-profit because it means they won't have to purchase scrubs for ladies who need them. Tanya Vokes is the CEO of Dress for Success Pittsburgh. She was a guest on the Rick Dayton Show talking about what a blessing this December drive is for her organization.

An affordable Masters program at Pitt
There are many challenges to getting a Masters degree. For many, they are already working full-time, and that makes it hard to go to class. For others, the cost of the training/classwork is prohibitive. For others, there may be academic challenges of getting into advanced degree programs. That's where the University of Pittsburgh's Masters in Data Science comes in. Dr. Adam Lee tells the Rick Dayton Show there is no admissions process. Enroll, get a B or better in your first class, and you are in. Secondly, the program is available on-line to give flexibility in scheduling. Finally, it costs just $15,000 which is 38% more affordable than the average on-line graduate program.

How many times have you created a To Do List, only to get done with the day and realize you didn't accomplish one thing on it? Boris Blum was a guest on The Rick Dayton Show. He is a Performance Consultant who is an expert in what he calls "the art of taking action." He says we need to ask ourselves questions like "why does this matter?" and have a clear picture of what you want to accomplish. It won't be easy, but he says by being intentional, you can change and get more done.

Ageism in the workplace
Ageism is alive and well, and Jessica Kriegel joined The Rick Dayton Show to say it is a much larger issue than many of us think. She points out that even the use of terms like Millenial, Gen X, Gen Z, or Baby Boomer contains layers of ageism. Whether intended or not, those terms may contain layers of discrimination which has been outlawed in the workplace. Kriegel is the Chief Scientist of Workplace Culture for Culture Partners and travels the country discussing issues like ageism with companies of all sizes.
