438 | Be Disciplined in Your Thoughts More Than Your Actions

Many of us use our discipline fuel to take ACTION, but not our THOUGHTS. Many of us are taught that being disciplined in our actions is the most important thing. Lindsey argues that it's far more important to be disciplined in our thoughts. What does that look like? Press play to find out! 437 | How to Successfully Transition From College Coaching to Entrepreneurship with Betsy Butterick

My guest today is my friend and PPT community favorite, Betsy Butterick! Betsy is a coach and communication specialist with a history of coaching D1-D3 college basketball, and the WNBA. Today, Betsy is opening up about her choice to leave it all behind for the never ending adventure of being her own boss. Betsy works with individuals and teams that are ready to improve. Her work spans the locker room to the boardroom, and is applicable to every area of life. Anytime I get the pleasure of sitting down with The Coaches Coach herself, I leave with renewed motivation and nuggets of wisdom that I take into my own coaching. One thing I admire about Betsy is how she’ll do anything to push toward that next level. In this episode, she talks about using her part-time job at an airport to get her business off the ground, and how sitting at a children’s hospital helped her practice being uncomfortable. Beyond being one of the best-spoken people I’ve ever met, Betsy is honest, vulnerable, and relatable. Her successful business didn’t happen overnight, and she’s not afraid to peel back the curtain. This episode is full of practical wisdom and is super encouraging, especially for all my aspiring mindset coaches out there. In her words, “I’m a normal and average person [...] If I can do it, you can do it!” Follow Betsy: Website: www.betsybutterick.com  Instagram: @betsy_thecoachescoach YouTube: www.youtube.com/user/BetsyButterick ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Here’s a glance at this episode: [0:58] Betsy introduces herself. She was a college golfer, then coached college-level basketball, eventually making her way to coaching in the WNBA. She identifies the exact moment she realized coaching existed outside of sports, which soon brought her to her current career coaching coaches as a communication specialist.  [5:27] It was not an easy decision to make the jump from leaving a great coaching job to building a business from the ground up. [9:58] Shared experience and relatability goes so far in coaching, and it’s a great way to counter Imposter Syndrome. Betsy shares a tip for aspiring mindset coaches that helped her get her foot in the door. She also introduces her ACT video series. [15:20] Right out of the gate, Betsy wanted to work with the people that she understood the best: Coaches. In her opinion, offering value before you’re asked is one of the most valuable things you can do to be successful in the field. [19:25] “Don’t measure your success by what you don’t know. Put out into the universe what you know is good and of value, and do that consistently.” Lindsey and Betsy discuss the unique challenges with marketing via social media and the importance of staying grounded in what you know and who you’re targeting. [24:33] It can be hard to be your own boss and remain confident; Betsy digs into her own relationship with confidence and trusting the process. She opens up about how being a mom has changed her life. [30:27] Lindsey asks the question “How did you suspend the how?” Betsy’s answer includes 2 stories that illustrate how she learned to “sit with suffering”. [36:04] After she left coaching, Betsy landed her very first client that she describes as, “The best first client I could have hoped for… because she was so skeptical”. Betsy takes Lindsey through how she landed her first client and took advantage of the right opportunities. [40:37] The HUSTLE is all about getting creative. Betsy talks about how she worked on her skills, made the ask (even when it was intimidating) and even worked part-time at an airport in exchange for flying standby anywhere in the country. [44:13] Betsy jokes about her “beer meeting” and how she’s worked on her money mindset. In her words, “People can’t accept what you don’t offer”. [47:33]  “We can criticize ourselves for the things we didn’t do, or congratulate ourselves for the risks that we take”. Betsy explains the very real reward of starting a business, pushing through the fear, and seeing it through. [52:18] Wrapping up the episode, Lindsey asks Betsy how people can learn more about her and the good work she does.   ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rate, Review, & Follow on Apple Podcasts “I love Lindsey’s straight forward, realistic approach to motivation and living your best life.”  <– If that sounds like you, we'd love for you to rate and review the podcast!  This helps us reach more high performers — just like you — on a personal growth journey to become better leaders, competitors, and humans. Click here, scroll to the bottom, tap to rate with five stars, and select “Write a Review.” Let us know what you loved most about the episode! 435 | The Perception of Misalignment

"I'm working SO hard but I'm not making any progress". If you hear yourself say this, it might mean that you are misaligned and your inner beliefs are fighting against each other. Living with conflicting beliefs makes things a whole lot harder than they need to be. So, what can you do about it? In today's episode, Lindsey outlines actionable steps you can take to get yourself "unstuck". 434 | How to Allow Things To Be Simple with Courtney Thompson

I am thrilled to once again welcome everyone’s favorite co-host Courtney Thompson! I LOVE sitting down and chatting with Courtney; she is a fountain of wisdom and has lived out everything I teach when it comes to Mental Training - on the BIGGEST NATIONAL stages. Courtney is a 2-time Olympic medalist with a professional resume that goes on for miles. She’s also an advocate for mental training, a natural teacher, and she credits mindset work for a lot of her success, on and off the court. I am so excited to announce that Courtney has agreed to join me as a regular co-host on this podcast. That’s right, you’ll be seeing a lot more of her here in 2023! Today, Courtney and I are asking the question: “How can we allow things to be SIMPLE?” As high achievers, we take a lot of pride in working hard. For many of us, it’s our comfort zone; It makes us feel good to work hard. And, don’t get me wrong, there is a lot of pride to be had in working long hours, training hard, hustling. After all, as Courtney puts it, “If you’ve never been burnt out, or trained too hard, or crossed that line, are you actually pushing yourself?” But oftentimes we take it too far. The problem comes when we become so accustomed to working hard that we make things harder than they need to be. In today’s episode, Courtney and I talk about the “dark side” of working hard. We talk about: What it means to “allow” things to be easy How self-sabotage masquerades as hustle Why the thing you SHOULD be doing is often the thing you avoid the most. From Courtney’s experience in setting up her new business to my new-and-improved approach to family laundry, this concept is so applicable to everyone in so many different parts of life. In this episode, both Courtney and I have real breakthroughs, and we’re confident that you will too. Let’s dive in! Follow Courtney Thompson Courtney teaches athletes and teams to condition their minds through mental training workshops and on-the-court training. 433 | Perfectionism Blindness

Today's message is one all high achievers need to hear: It's okay to be imperfect, it's okay to mess up, it's okay to see the opportunity for growth. Many high achievers would rather bury their head in the sand than look their failures square in the eye. Today, Lindsey talks about what it was like for her to watch tape as an athlete, and what she learned from making space for the cringe-y moments. 431 | What It's Like To Be A Mindset Coach With 2 MCA Grads

Today, I am thrilled to welcome TWO (yes TWO) badass mindset coaches to join me on this very special episode of The Mindset Coach Academy Podcast! Amy Oliphant is the founder of Transcend Mental training and a Positive Performance Certified Mindset Coach. Fun fact, Amy was actually in our very first MCA Certification course, and has been a Team Captain for us over the past 4 years. When she joined us, she had no intention of starting a business. Now, she’s getting paid to be a mindset coach and scaling her business, with plans to expand in 2023. In her words, “If you run towards that fear, the possibilities are endless”. Nikki Dieball does it all. As the Associate Head Volleyball Coach at Southern Nazarene University and the owner of RISE volleyball club, Nikki has set up her mindset coaching business to scale however and whenever she needs it to. Wearing so many different hats and being a mom to a 10 year old and 2 month old at the same time, growing her mindset coaching business on the side has allowed Nikki tremendous flexibility and peace-of-mind. If you are thinking about joining us for our Mindset Coach Academy Certification program in the spring, or simply want to know what it’s like to become a Mindset Coach, this episode is a must-listen. A huge thank you to Nikki and Amy for being my guests today and being so open about what it’s really like, on a day-to-day basis, to be a mindset coach. Juggling kids, adult responsibilities, and other jobs, these two are real, raw, and don’t hold anything back. Amy talks about the importance of intentionally choosing your path as a mindset coach. [8:30] Nikki was fortunate enough to be introduced to mental training at a young age. She shares how her passion for mental training led her to finding Lindsey and joining The Mindset Coach Academy. . [12:55] “I can make it as big as I want” Nikki talks about the peace of mind that comes with having a side hustle that can scale whenever she needs it to (while helping people).[15:30] What’s a day-in-the-life of a Mindset Coach really look like? Amy talks about her own mindset routine. She also shares some personal wins - getting her first corporate client, launching a group subscription program for hockey players (and eventually swimmers), and prepping for end-of-the-year presentations at highschools. [17:45] Athletes today are faced with unique challenges. Nikki is seeing a ton of confidence issues and overwhelm with schedules, mental health, pressure to perform, and learning to “win” without a scoreboard.[20:27] The ripple effect of mindset coaching is REAL. In Nikki’s words, “It can’t help but bleed over into every aspect of their life [...] the classroom, relationships…”[23:09] Both Amy and Nikki agree they used to “frankenstein” their training programs from scratch. Now, Amy’s created a choose-your-own-adventure “mental performance roadmap” and reminds us there’s no such thing as a one-size-fits all.

428 | How To Become A Mindset Coach

What does it REALLY take to become a mindset coach?  I’ll let you in on a little secret… you don’t need to spend 60k+ getting your Sports Psychology PhD, become the most successful athlete on the planet, or learn how to run every part of a business.  You just need ONE thing (that not everyone has) and that is PASSION.  Let’s rewind 15 years or so… When I started out, Sports Psychology was a fringe term, and one that not a lot of people bought into. I had no idea how to do sales or marketing, how to build a website, or how reach my target audience. I didn’t even know if it was possible to help people AND make money. The one thing I knew is that SOMEONE out there needed to hear my message.  If you’re here today, there’s a chance you feel that same pull.  In this episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on what it takes to be a mindset coach; from investing in your education (in the ways that actually MATTER), to landing your first client, and setting up your business to make money. Better still, I’ll give you everything you need to start working with your first client TODAY..  If you have a pull to become a mindset coach, LISTEN TO IT.  All you need is the “why”, the inner belief that will move you forward. You don’t need to know the “how”, I can teach you the “how”.  Because your athletes - the ones whose lives will change once they hear your message- THEY don’t need you to be perfect, they just need YOU..  Applications for The Mindset Coach Academy Certification open in February, 2023! 425 | Certified Coach 0-$500k (Breanne)

My badass guest today is PPT Certified Mindset Coach and founder of The Elite Competitor Program, Breanne Smedley! When I first met Breanne in 2019, she had just taken out a new credit card to pay for the MCA Certification. Now, Breanne is making $500k per year AS A MINDSET COACH. Yep, you read that right. After graduating from The Mindset Coach Academy, Breanne went on to start The Elite Competitor Program with her sister-in-law, Kristina. Their focus is to give female athletes the mental skills they need to navigate the normal pressures of their sport AND give support and accountability tools to their moms. Today, their business is expanding in every direction with no signs of slowing down. What I love about this episode is how Breanne takes us through her evolution. She didn’t go from $0 to 500k overnight. Her path to 500k was riddled with self-doubt, failure, dead ends, and general hard stuff. Her success comes from her determination to keep putting one foot in front of the other. Today, she’s giving us an inside look at her mindset and business journey to 500k. If you are considering joining us for our Mindset Coach Academy Certification program in the spring, or simply want to know what it’s like to become a Mindset Coach, this episode is a must-listen. Breanne is one of our most successful students, and a living example that it is possible to do good work in the world and make money. Listen, share, rate, review, and connect with Breanne! She talks about why she chose to take the leap and join MCA Certification as new mom, high school teacher, and volleyball coach in 2019. [7:13] While going through the MCA Certification, Breanne started to feel a responsibility to share mental training with her community. Although she didn’t have a clear vision at the time, she made the choice to put one foot in front of the other. [13:34] Lindsey and Breanne discuss how she scaled from $60k in 2020, to $120k in 2021, to $500k in 2022. [17:00] Failed launches, zero enrollments, and messy marketing are all part of the process. Breanne shares her one regret: Not trusting herself more from the very beginning. 422 | 3 Steps To Turning Regret into Power

Trigger Warning: Sexual Content Today’s episode takes on a different format. It’s messy, it’s real, it’s raw. In “3 Steps to Turning Regret Into Power”, I asked an old friend, Courtney Thompson (Olympian and mindset advocate), to help me process a personal trauma involving a relationship between myself and my 40 year old coach when I was in high school. I knew I needed to record this episode with Courtney because, in all honesty, I really, REALLY didn’t want to. But I’ve learned in recent years that telling my story is really liberating. For years, I didn’t talk about it. And by hiding it, I gave it so much power. Using the steps outlined in the book, The Power of Regret, Courtney did an amazing job of holding space for me. She affirms my process, graciously navigates the grey areas with me, and asks me questions that help me move through my story in a new way and identify new themes. I feel so grateful that Courtney was willing to coach me through this. My hope in sharing this is that it helps you navigate through a difficult experience or regret that you’re feeling “stuck” on. This is an exercise that I do with my coaches in MCA Insider Mastermind, and every time I do, it creates room for self-forgiveness, healing, and growth. Follow Courtney Thompson:Instagram: @cthomp_3 “The Power of Regret” by Daniel H. Pink:  https://www.danpink.com/the-power-of-regret/ BONUS Journaling exercise based on “The Power of Regret”Start by choosing a situation from your past that you regret. Then, journal the 3 step process below. STEP 1: Self-Disclosure: Relive and Relieve - Talking about your regret takes power away from it. Tell someone you’ve never told before and that you trust. Journal: Who will you talk to and when? STEP 2. Self-Compassion: Normalize and Neutralize - Talk to yourself as though you were your best friend. Journal: How can you forgive yourself for what happened in the past? What might be another way to think about it? Has anything positive come from this situation? STEP 3: Self-Distancing: Analyze and Strategize - Once you’ve talked about the experience with someone else and cultivated self-compassion, you’re ready to create a plan of action. Journal: How can you grow from this experience? How might this help you help someone else? How might this experience actually benefit you? Is there any part of this experience you’re grateful for?   ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rate, Review, & Follow on Apple Podcasts “I love Lindsey’s straight forward, realistic approach to motivation and living your best life.”  <– If that sounds like you, we'd love for you to rate and review the podcast!  This helps us reach more high performers — just like you — on a personal growth journey to become better leaders, competitors, and humans. Click here, scroll to the bottom, tap to rate with five stars, and select “Write a Review.” Let us know what you loved most about the episode! 418 | The Mindset of Being A Pilot with Tammy Barlette and Bryan Price

It’s double the guests, double the good stuff on today’s very special episode of The Mindset Coach Academy Podcast! Today, I am thrilled to be joined by two Mindset Coach Academy graduates, Bryan Price and Tammy Barlette, for this month’s expert interview! Both of these incredible human beings are badasses in their own right with a common history in military service. Bryan served as a Lieutenant Colonel and an Attack Helicopter Pilot while Tammy served as a Lieutenant Colonel and Fighter Pilot.  Drawing from their individual experiences in the military, we dive into topics like pre-flight jitters, nerves, perfectionism, failure, and handling pressure. AND the very important skill of mistake recovery because, as Tammy puts it, you can't pull over in a cloud! They share a fascinating, behind-the-scenes look at the mental side of high-risk roles in the military with sharp, clear takeaways that will stick with you.  As natural leaders, self-made experts, and living examples of what they teach, both Bryan and Tammy are some of the most impressive humans I’ve ever met. Their mindset of excellence in all they do has given them wisdom that spans all industries. I am so proud to say that Bryan and Tammy have gone through our Mindset Coach Academy Certification and have put our teachings into practice to help them build their coaching businesses. I love them as mindset coaches, humans, and students, and I’m so proud to have been a part of their success. They’ve been such a pleasure to have in our community and have taught me so much over the years. This episode is so good. Listen, share, rate, review, and connect with Bryan and Tammy! Born and bred in “God’s country” i.e. New Jersey, Bryan shares a very quick version of his very colorful past and what brought him to mindset coaching.Tammy talks about her past in athletics and experience in the Air Force, and what brought her to mental coaching.  [5:30] “I’ll fail out before I ever bail out” Tammy talks about how the military’s “can’t quit” attitude in pilot training was a big motivator for learning to be mentally tough. [11:35] Bryan talks about what it means to “get your butterflies to fly in formation”. He shares one mindset trick to help him get out of his head and anchor himself to his ultimate purpose.  [16:55] Tammy talks about learning to harness her confidence and handle stress as a pilot. She teaches a simple Air Force process that she still returns to: Aviate, Navigate, Communicate. [21:25] You update your phone software right away, but when was the last time you updated your mental software? Bryan gets real about some of the challenges facing his students today. [26:00] Tammy talks about her choice to go to weapons school with a 3 month old and 18 month old. She explains how this tough choice made her more brave, quicker to ask questions, and less afraid of appearing foolish in front of her peers. Bryan expands on how fear of failure and perfectionism stifles teams and organizations.  [31:35] Fear of failure never goes away! With this in mind, Bryan explains why he believes the Navy SEALs are such a good team.  Tammy asks the question, “What if you do have failure? What do you do with it?” [37:00] What mindset tools are these two working on right now? Tammy explains how she’s transitioning from the Air Foce into civilian life. Bryan talks about his big life transition and decision to start working for himself full time. 415 | How to Praise the Process

Praising progress over the result takes intention. Because, when you’re a high performer, you love bringing home that W. So for many of us, letting go of the result takes a lot of practice.  Like, a LOT of practice. I was at my kid’s soccer game the other day, and she scored two goals. Now, the competitor in me, wanted to cheer, swing her around, and make a huge deal out of it, but I also knew that if I wanted my daughter to praise progress over result I had to be careful about how I celebrated her in that moment. My daughter knows that I’m proud of her; not because of her two goals, but because she played hard. Because of her EFFORT, not the OUTCOME. I want my daughter to ask herself, win or lose, “Do I know - in my GUT - that I did my very VERY best?” In this special extended episode of The Mindset Coach Academy Podcast, I explore: What does praising progress really look like? What’s the ripple effect of praising progress over outcome? How can we instill this idea in the people we coach, our kids, and ourselves? Is it important to care about results? How can you strike a balance? Listen to this extended episode and join me as I praise progress over outcome! Ps. Want more information about our upcoming coaching program? 412 | Guest Interview: Christen Schefchunas

Today I am joined by Christen Shefchunas, former D1 swimming head coach and current professional Confidence Coach. Working 1:1 with some of the greatest athletes and teams in the world, Christen coaches Olympians, World Champions, NCAA All Americans, and even high school athletes in their confidence to help them to seize their potential. From what to do in ‘pressure-to-perform’ moments to how to handle daily stressors and fears, Christen is on a mission to help guide a new generation of confident female athletes through her business, Coach Christen. In addition to her boots-on-the-ground coaching, Christen is the creator of Confidence Nuggets, a bracelet line designed to remind women of their strength, and she’s the author of 30 Days to Confident, a month-long confidence challenge for female athletes.  Christen is a living breathing example of confidence. In this episode, she shares a lof of really simple things that can transform the way we show up in the world. One of my favorite moments from this episode is when Christen talks about the power of normalizing fear. This episode is full of advice that so many of us (dare I say, ALL of us) can benefit from, especially those of us who are women in sports, coach female athletes, or parent female athletes. Couldn’t we all benefit from having more confidence? Christen is here to help! Press play, and let me know what you think of my episode with Christen Shefchunas! Follow Christen:Website: www.coachchristen.comInstagram: coach_christen And remember to rate, review, and share The Mindset Coach Academy Podcast with your friends, teammates, and colleagues. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here’s a glance at this episode: [0:35] During her 16 years of coaching, Christen noticed that women were never the priority. Now, she’s on a mission to build up female athletes through confidence coaching. [5:18] Christen explains how both fear of failure and social risk can impact an athlete’s performance. Lindsey asks the question, “Do athletes self-sabotage for the sake of fitting in?” [7:53] How does a confidence coach stay confident? Christen gets vulnerable about what makes her nervous and how she’s trained her own brain to courageously face her insecurities. [13:29] “You are in control of your life”. This is the phrase that launched Christen’s transition from coach to business owner. Taking us through the ups and downs of her first few years, Christen reminds us that building a business doesn’t happen over night! [18:05] The moments right before you perform are often the moments that hold you back. Christen doesn’t buy into the idea of being “fearless”, but she does believe in getting honest, facing your fears, and making sure your words match your deepest beliefs. [22:16] Oftentimes, athletes feel that they’re alone in their fear, but Christen’s never met an athlete without it. She openly talks about a time in her career when she messed up as a coach. [28:06] Christen shares one fundamental thing she teaches all her athletes to help them accept their pre-competition nervousness and move past it to perform. She chats about her new book and her bracelet line. [32:57] Lindsey shoots off a few rapid fire questions to get to know Christen. With each question, Lindsey peels back the curtain back on Christen’s personal routines, what she’s reading, what she’s creating, what she’s looking forward to, what she consumes, and what brings her joy.   Rate, Review, & Follow on Apple Podcasts “I love Lindsey’s straight forward, realistic approach to motivation and living your best life.”  <– If that sounds like you, we'd love for you to rate and review the podcast!  This helps us reach more high performers — just like you — on a personal growth journey to become better leaders, competitors, and humans. Click here, scroll to the bottom, tap to rate with five stars, and select “Write a Review.” Let us know what you loved most about the episode! 409 | Two Steps to Failing Better

Run towards failure! If you want to be successful, you have to become familiar with failure. It’s part of the deal. No successful business owner has gotten to where they are without a bad launch, no professional athlete has gotten into the big leagues without a bad game, no actor has landed an award-winning role without being told NO a hundred times before. I’m certainly no exception, and neither are you. Failure is a precursor, inevitability, a rite of passage to success. In this special, extended episode of The Mindset Coach Academy Podcast, I dig deep into the psychology of failure and the big questions surrounding it. For example: Why do we avoid failure? Hint: It has to do with our caveman/lizard brain How do the stories we tell ourselves about past or future failures define us? How can our fear and avoidance of failure act as a mirror? What becoming familiar with failure do to our brain? Psychologically speaking, what’s the best way to “run toward failure”? From failing in the WNBA to failing in business, I talk openly about the times I let myself down. I share the stories I used to tell myself about failure, and how they’ve changed over the years. Finally, I give you tons of actionable tips to help you reframe the way you think about failure. Listen to this extended episode and join me as I run towards failure! Ps. 406 | Guest Interview: Jake Thompson

Today I am so grateful to be joined by the one and only Jake Thompson! Jake’s resume is impressive, to say the least. He is an author, keynote speaker, coach, business man, and (best of all) an example of everything he teaches. In his trainings, team building workshops, and one on one coaching, he inspires everyone he works with to build grit, accountability, and compete every day for success. In this episode, we talk about what’s good, what’s hard, and what has worked for him. We get into the problem with trying to be “fearless”, the magnetic influence of the 5 people you spend the most time with, and how to break down your big goals into bite-sized pieces. One of my favorite teachable moments in this episode is when Jake talks about “can’t-see choices that turn into can’t-miss results.” Coming off of this interview, I feel like I just got a personal coaching session! Whether you’re an athlete, coach, parent, or a mindset nerd, this interview with Jake Thompson is sure to get you fired up for your goals. Better still, it will help you stay on track making small, meaningful choices every day to achieve those goals and become better athletes and humans. Press play, enjoy, and share with anyone who comes to mind as you listen to this kickass episode! Follow Jake:Website: www.competeeveryday.comInstagram: @competeeveryday and @jakethompsonspeaksLinkedin : Jake Thompson   Here’s a glance at this episode: [0:40] Jake talks openly about his ADHD and how he’s learned to harness it into growing his business. Jake and Lindsey discuss how time management is a mindset issue. [7:00] Jake argues that it’s better to fear LESS than to be fearless. Jake gives tips for changing your relationship to fear. As he eloquently explains, “Courage isn’t being fearless, it’s learning to move while you’re scared” [14:23] Your community directly influences your mindset. Jake talks in detail about the magnetic influence of the five people you spend the most time with, especially during times of growth and transformation. [21:55] Jake explains how writing down your biggest fears can help you prepare to reduce your fear, take action, and flourish during times of struggle. [23:45] What are the 5 core values that you want to live by? Jake vulnerably shares his core values and explains how these pillars support every action and choice he makes. [28:00] From hitting the snooze button, to responding poorly to your kid, to re-starting when you get off track, Jake insists that success comes down to can’t see choices you make every day. As he puts it, “Can’t see choices turn into can’t miss results.” [33:50] Small, incremental steps lead to long-term results. Here’s how breaking down your big goals into bite sized pieces can help you move forward. [36:19] Lindsey shoots off a few rapid fire questions to get to know Jake. With each question, Lindsey peels back the curtain back on Jake’s personal routines, what he’s reading, what he’s creating, what he consumes from a content perspective, and what brings him joy. There's a place for dissatisfaction. It's really hard to make a big change without it! But it can also lead to negative self-talk and stop you dead in your tracks. 403 | Are You Asking for Permission

Are you asking for permission? …to start your business, to call yourself an expert, to be paid for your skills, to take that vacation, to allow things to be easy, to step into the life that you really want? Asking for permission is one of the easiest ways to get in your own way and postpone your success. Why? Because, chances are, you’re not immediately surrounded by people who will give you permission. They may not… See or understand your vision Believe what you want is possible Have an affinity for action Have big dreams of their own Know how to hold space for you Even know you need support And when you leave it up to outside forces, you may never get the permission you’re looking for. In today’s episode, i talk about the importance of giving YOURSELF permission. I dig into: Where the habit of asking for permission comes from (think: kindergarten) Why we often surround ourselves with the wrong people (and why it’s human nature) How our inner beliefs can make things harder and hold us back. Why change is so hard, and what you can do about it. 399 | Extended Episode Interview With Jenn Starkey

Today I am thrilled to be interviewing my dear friend (and overall badass human being), Jenn Starkey! Jenn is an author, a mindset coach, and a softball coach. She’s best known for putting on events for adolescent softball players that “challenge what most people believe is possible”  I absolutely love this interview with Jenn because she is not afraid to put it all out there, and I mean put it ALL out there. Jenn has been through so much in her personal and professional life, and she has learned to harness the messy parts of herself in a way that makes her, her athletes, and everyone around her BETTER. Jenn is earnest, optimistic, and truly one of the toughest people I know.  In this interview, Jenn talks openly about how she spent a year of her life training in Brazillian Jiu Jitsu as a way of processing pain and trauma from her past and starting a new chapter. She shares that she’s in the process of reinventing herself, and approaches this conversation with the kind of openness that takes an interview from good to great. Forged through the fire, Jenn has grown into a strong, vulnerable, person, amazing step mom, and kickass coach that is more than worthy of the spotlight.    Don’t we all love a good comeback story?  This is one of my very favorite episodes to date, and a reminder to all of us to invest in OURSELVES first. Press play and enjoy this captivating chat with the one and only Jenn Starkey.    Follow Jenn: Website: www.bestseasonever.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Jenn.L.Starkey  Instagram: @mvpjenn Here’s a glance at this episode: [4:14] Jenn talks vulnerably about her total life overhaul that began at an Olympic training speaking event. She speaks about the dissolving of her first marriage, getting married again, becoming a step-mom, and changing a business partnership.  [8:49] Jenn highlights her ‘aha moment’ when she left her old life behind and boarded a plane to start her Brazillian Ju Jitsu journey.  Determined to hit the ground running, she made a plan to enter her first competition in 30 days.  [12:24] From coaching athletes to coaching adults, Jenn takes Lindsey through her own mindset journey and her decision to invest in herself when she didn’t have the money. [18:11] Sometimes big growth can only happen when you slow down. Jenn explains how this was true for her. [20:59] How does coming up from rock-bottom help you become more comfortable being uncomfortable? Jenn shares her perspective on learning patience, trusting the universe, and carving out quiet time.  [24:46] Jenn shares her ‘free play’ technique for keeping her mind clear and her creativity, and imagination elastic. She also explains how she creates rituals around the things that matter to her.  [28:34] What can a scheduling expert teach us about time management? Jenn teaches about the importance of framing your to-dos as ‘experiences’ instead of ‘tasks’. She drives her point home with her personal philosophy: “Plan tomorrow, today, every day.“ Step by step, she takes us through her daily huddle.  [34:05] Jenn talks about her upcoming book and her vision for building a TV show! [42:34] “Be like a tree”! Jenn chats about rocks, water, and why her favorite metaphor for toughness is a tree. [44:53] Lindsey shoots off a few rapid-fire questions to get to know Jenn. With each question, Lindsey peels back the curtain back on Jenn’s personal routines, what she’s reading, what she consumes from a content perspective, and what brings her joy. 396 | Confidence as an Antidote to Fear

Is it fair to say that we (as a society) have worn out the word “confidence”? Sometimes it feels like such a buzzword that it becomes hard to think of it in a new way. But today, I’m going to do my best to shed new light on this keyword.  For the next few minutes, I want to challenge you to think of confidence as the antidote to fear. As an action that we have the power to take in response to our fear. I want you to think about confidence as a verb. If confidence is a verb, then it’s something you can stop waiting around for. Something you can actively grow and cultivate in your own life, something within your reach regardless of how you feel today or in any given situation. In our cornerstone blog, 5 Myths About Confidence, we talk about the origin of confidence, the difference between extrinsic and intrinsic confidence, and finally, we debunk 5 common myths about confidence.  In this special extended episode of The Mindset Coach Academy Podcast, I’m going through each myth, one at a time, and sharing personal examples along the way to help me show you why you shouldn’t believe them. Here are the 5 myths about confidence in question:    Confidence is a result of success You have to feel confident to take action Faking it til you make it doesn’t work Confident people are confident all the time Some people are just born confident   In this episode, I explain why confidence is always in your grasp and offer you simple ways you can cultivate it. I share examples from my own life and give you advice to help you (and your team) build real, bulletproof, lifelong confidence that is based on internal belief and self-alignment, not on conditions or fragile ego. Press play to be on your way to better confidence!    Resources mentioned in this episode: Blog - 5 Myths About Confidence: https://www.positiveperformancetraining.com/blog/5-myths-about-confidence  Course - Mastering Your Self-Talk: https://www.positiveperformancetraining.com/Mastering-Your-Self-Talk  Rate, Review, & Follow on Apple Podcasts “I love Lindsey’s straight forward, realistic approach to motivation and living your best life.”  <– If that sounds like you, we'd love for you to rate and review the podcast!  This helps us reach more high performers — just like you — on a personal growth journey to become better leaders, competitors, and humans. In this first Mental Monday of August, we are talking about how the body processes STRESS. Everyone experiences stress, it's just part of life. Collin makes the case that “different is better than better… and boring will put you out of business”.  [41:12] Your self-image comfort zone directly reflects how much you charge. From bringing engaging activities to assigning pre-session homework, Collin explains how you can make yourself stand out, add immense value to your services, and create recurring customers with just a little extra effort. 390 | How I'm Building My $10M Confidence

What’s your big goal right now? Great! Now take that goal and 10x it.  Yes, really. In today’s podcast, I’m talking about confidence in a new way; one that is personal to me as I work to grow my business and set big monetary goals for myself.  As I work on my own mindset around my big goals, I’m reminded time and time again that goals are not a matter of self-discipline, they’re a matter of confidence.  Why? Because nobody works toward something that they think is impossible. But despite what you may think, being confident isn’t believing 100% that your goals are achievable. Being confident means waking up every day and focusing on what is in your control. Being confident means living like your big goals are achievable. Living like the person you want to become. The person who makes 10 million dollars, or writes 10 novels, or wins 10 superbowls. Who are you? What do you want to accomplish with your life? What do you tell people is important to you? Are your actions in line with that? Take your big goal, 10x it, and start living like you’ll accomplish it.  In today’s extended episode of The Mindset Coach Academy Podcast, I’ll share: How to create powerful affirmations to help you achieve your stretch goals Why shrinking your goals is never the answer (and what to do instead) My big 10x goal & how it influences my day-to-day routine A bunch of resources to help you and your athletes become more confident Here are links to the resources mentioned in this episode:   Confidence Toolbox: https://www.positiveperformancetraining.com/confidence-toolbox Lindsey’s Instagram: www.instagram.com/lindseypositiveperform  Confidence Blog: https://www.positiveperformancetraining.com/blog/5-myths-about-confidence    RATE, REVIEW, & FOLLOW ON APPLE PODCASTS “I love Lindsey’s straight forward, realistic approach to motivation and living your best life.” <– If that sounds like you, we'd love for you to rate and review the podcast!
