Feel your face relax, Your neck and shoulders melt, Your chest open, And your legs soften. Breathe… LONG PAUSE… Perhaps you’ve felt it a time or two, Perhaps you can recall. That feeling of discomfort and pain, That made your world feel small. PAUSE… Your natural instinct is to writhe, And fight against what’s there. Your mind seeks to avoid, Escaping is your only care. PAUSE… But if you just breathe, And allow the discomfort to stay, You’ll see that evasion is futile. Through is the only way. LONG PAUSE… Once you accept, That your journey must proceed, Your shoulders will strengthen, You’ll find everything you need. PAUSE… It won’t be easy, And there may be wounds you endure. But those wounds will turn to scars, And the lessons will stick for sure. PAUSE… So keep moving forward, Even when you want to quit. The only way out is through, So take a deep breath and commit. LONG PAUSE… Once you’ve pushed through, After you’ve gone through the tough, The journey will have changed you, You’ll know you can handle more stuff. PAUSE… It takes true courage, To look suffering in the eyes. And instead of running away, Accept that you’re allies. PAUSE… So breathe in real deep, And know this much to be true. LONG PAUSE But how can we feel grateful, When others are in such pain? How can we feel thankful, When such suffering remains? PAUSE Come inside and remember, We’re connected to each other. When one of us is hurting, We can give love to one another. PAUSE When gratitude runs deep within, We’re humble and open wide. We give our love more freely, And others feel our light. So lay down in your bed and let them melt away, as you anchor yourself in the present moment and allow your body to rest. So let yourself slither around in your bed until you find the sleeping position you love the most. Take a deep breath in when you find it, And then exhale and settle even deeper into your bed. Be here. With the stillness of the night. And allow its cool, calm silence to isolate those thoughts racing through your mind. Those worries, Anxieties, Stresses, Fears. They are the ones in rigorous motion against the backdrop of the stillness. PAUSE… Thoughts. Stories. Emotions. That’s all they are. They are not you. What’s true is this moment. This breath. You. Here on your bed. Alive. Breathing. So allow yourself to separate them from you, All these worries. Inviting them to exit the rapid movement inside your head, And enter the stillness of the night. This moment of presence, Where the worries cannot exist. Watch them dissolve in the space around you, The tiny grains of sand spilling from them until nothing is left. Release the worries into the peaceful presence of the night. LONG PAUSE... Feel the deep relaxation of your body as the worries dissolve. It melts into the arms of the night, Releasing its need to control, Or be ready, Or fight. And instead softens, Trusts, And surrenders. Relax and release. PAUSE… It’s time to sleep. So breathe… In and out, And fall into the depths of the night. PAUSE… If you find thoughts popping up, wanting your attention, See if you can imagine those thoughts passing by you, like clouds in the sky, as you watch from afar. And then come back to your breath. Feeling the air expand your chest and your belly on your inbreath, And contracting your body on the outbreath, Letting the rhythm of your breath slow down and calm the rhythm of your body. PAUSE… Now imagine with me that every inhale invites in soft blue relief, Opening up space inside of you, Healing, softening and relaxing. And every breath out releases the grey of any heaviness or pain or discomfort inside of you. Breathing in blue relief, Breathing out grey heaviness. Breathe in, Breathe out. PAUSE… Let your body unwind and relax. Feel it letting go of the stress and the anxiety, With every breath you take. Notice it softening, releasing and healing. Allowing yourself to let go, Releasing the grey and breathing in the blue. Relax. And just be here. One with your body. Calm. Peaceful. Present. So rather than quickly getting rid of the discomfort, If we’re willing to sit with it, We can learn the lessons it’s here to teach us, We can hear the wisdom it's here to share. So take a moment to adjust your body, Letting yourself settle into a position that feels natural and comfortable for you. Take a deep breath in, Signaling to your mind that it’s time to come inside. And when you can’t breath in anymore, Exhale, Releasing the air all the way out. Breathe in deep again, Filling your entire body with fresh air, Holding it at the top for just a few seconds, And then exhaling, And letting your entire body melt further into comfort. Now bring your breathing to a relaxed, easy rhythm, And invite yourself to be here for a bit. PAUSE… You may be able to feel it already, The discomfort. The things that are unsettled. It may be a physical sensation, Or a thought, Or even a deep uneasiness. PAUSE… See if you can simply be here with it. Not needing it to be defined. Not needing it to be fixed. Not needing it to make sense. Just be here with the discomfort. And see what comes up. LONG PAUSE… There are lessons here, my love. Beautiful pieces of wisdom that the discomfort is alerting you to. Continue to be here with it, Open and listening. Meditation: Stretch and Relax Your Body

So settle into your bed, positioning yourself as comfortably as you can on your back. Take a moment to cover yourself in your blankets if you like, And then allow yourself to simply lay still for a few moments, As your attention shifts from all the outside noise of the day, To the calm inside your breath. PAUSE… Feel your body relaxing further with every breath, As the warmth of your soft bed pulls you in deeper, Deeper, Deeper. PAUSE… Now slowly bring your attention to your arms, And slowly extend and stretch them in any direction that feels comfortable for you. Stretching them long as you feel your muscles expand, holding it for just a moment. And then release the stretch, Allowing your arms to settle deeper into comfort. PAUSE… Now bring your attention to your neck, And slowly drop your head to one side, feeling the stretch on the side of your neck as you do. Breathe into the stretch, staying with the pull of the muscles, And release. Drop your head to the other side, stretching the other side of your neck, Imagine that muscle stretching and relieving any pain or tension it does, And then release, Bringing your head and your neck back into a deeply relaxed and comfortable position. PAUSE… Now let your attention fall upon your face, As you open your mouth wide, stretching out the muscles in your cheeks, mouth and forehead. Keep expanding the stretch, feeling the muscles release the weight of the day, And then release, Relaxing your forehead, face, cheeks and mouth, As they melt into your pillow. PAUSE… Now for the last stretch, reach your hands up above your head and stretch your legs out as far as you can, Pointing your toes and opening your fingers, Imagining your body being pulled from the top and bottom as your body expands. So settle yourself into a position that’s comfortable for you, Adjusting your body a bit if needed, And when you’re ready, Take a deep breath in, Expanding your chest and belly as much as you can, Holding it for a moment at the top, And then exhale, Releasing all the thoughts and tension inside. Bring your breathing to a normal, easy rhythm, And simply practice being here for a bit. PAUSE… Opportunities to practice patience are abundant. When our kids won’t do what we want. When another person is taking longer than expected. When our cravings for something ache so much. In these moments, We can practice breathing into patience. Using our breath to bring us into the moment, And away from all the thoughts and emotions that we’ve attached to another person or situation. So let yourself imagine a person or situation for which you know you want to infuse yourself with patience. PAUSE… And take a deep breath in, Giving your full attention to the air filling you up from head to toe, Holding it for a moment at the top, And then exhale, Releasing the air, Releasing your expectations. Breathe in deep again all the way from your toes, Gathering up any frustration or anger along the way, Holding it at the top, Hold, And then release your breath, Letting it all flow out of you. Let your breathing fall into a gentle, easy rhythm, And see if you can keep your full attention here, With the expansion and contraction of your body, With the feelings of their air on your nose as you breathe in and out, With the soothing motion of the air traveling in and out of you. PAUSE… Let the seeds of gratitude begin to sprout as you become aware of the miracle of your breath. Feeling it grow with every cycle, And drown out any other emotions or thoughts that might want to invade this space. Only gratitude is here. Only love. Be here now, And feel the patience flood in. And releasing it further with every exhale. Breathe… LONG PAUSE… Come deep into your body now, And see if you can focus in, On where blame and shame are living. PAUSE… Where are their judgments causing pain? Where are their words covering you, Suffocating you? PAUSE… Where have you forgotten who you truly are? LONG PAUSE… Let your attention you shine onto them, Force them come out of the shadows, And present themselves. PAUSE… Just this brave act of awareness, Weakens them. PAUSE… Now see if you can imagine that loving exhale of your breath, Gather them up one by one, And carry them out of your body, And out of your mind. PAUSE… Watch them dissolve once they’re gone, Once you’ve let them go. They have no power outside of you. PAUSE… They have no power. PAUSE… Let them go, With every breath out. Let them go. PAUSE… Now ease into a gentle rhythm of breathing again, Letting the waves of your breath calm you, Relax you, Comfort you. LONG PAUSE… Feel the warmth of the blue light, Above your chest. And as you breathe, Feel it spread out into your right arm, All the way to your hand and fingers. Softening you. PAUSE… And then feel the warm blue glow, Spread down into your left arm, All the way down to your hand, And into your fingers. Relaxing you. LONG PAUSE… Imagine the blue light traveling slowly down your back, From the top of your neck, Down, Down, Down, Covering and softening your lower back. LONG PAUSE… The gentle blue glow now hovers over your stomach, Falls down your hips, Down your left leg, And then your right. Warming you, Calming you. LONG PAUSE… One with the rhythm of your breath, The blue light ascends up through your chest, Rising up your neck, Softening your face, And covering the crown of your head. It’s time to sleep, my love, Time for the night to heal you and replenish you, And take away the guilt. So let your eyes grow heavy, And your body sink into your bed, As you feel its weight upon your soft sheets. Relax, And feel calmness slowly cover you like a blanket, Slowing down your body, Slowing down your breathing, Slowing down your mind. PAUSE… Maybe you feel a heaviness on your chest, As you think about what’s weighing on your heart. You feel guilty, Perhaps ashamed or disappointed. It’s my fault, You hear the voices say, As the shoulds begin penetrating your mind, Like raindrops on the roof, Coming down drop by drop, Burning your heart with their judgements. PAUSE… Breathe in deeply, And let the air cleanse you, Lighten you, Forgive you. And breathe out the guilt, Releasing the heaviness and the pain. Breathe in forgiveness, And release the guilt. PAUSE… You’re a beautiful being of love, And only this moment exists. You can’t change the past, But you can gather its lessons in your arms, And continue walking. So release the guilt, beautiful, And invite in forgiveness. PAUSE… Forgive yourself for the mistakes, Forgive yourself for the imperfections, Forgive yourself for the consequences of your actions. Feel the warmth of forgiveness release you from the chains of guilt. LONG PAUSE… Nothing you’ve done can take away who you are, You are love. And you are here to express love. So release the pain and suffering of guilt, As you absorb the lessons to be learned, And continue onto the path before you, Lighter, And wiser. PAUSE… It’s built here to protect, To guide you and to shine. When you’re lost or broken, Its light will be your sign. How easy it is to forget, That the lighthouse needs the care, To maintain and enhance its gifts, It needs regular repair. PAUSE… But if you take the time, To check in every day. Your lighthouse will shine, And keep the darkness away. PAUSE… Around and around it goes, The circular path of light. Out and out it flows, Protecting you every night.
