In today's episode I talk about cancel culture being alive and well in the United States. On Sunday Oklahoma assistant football coach announced his resignation. Why? Because in a team meeting, he grabbed the iPad of a player for not following directions and started reading what the player had on his iPad. One of the words he read was apparently the "N" word. That caused the coach who had been with the Oklahoma program since 1999 to resign. I talk about Gundy's social media statement and that of the head coach as well which was disgraceful! I then discuss and excellent article written by Dwayne Bray of Andscape on Dolphins owner Stephen Ross. Ross has been at the forefront of racial equality and minority hiring in the NFL, for years, but now is facing pressure amid this country's continued march towards "wokeism". Yesterday Oklahoma Assistant Head Coach Cale Gundy resigned. Why? A player was in a team meeting and wasn't following instructions. Gundy picked up the player's iPad and started reading it out loud. Once again, the NFL left me scratching my head. After months and months of waiting for the ruling on Browns QB Deshaun Watson things are now back in the hands of Commissioner Roger Goodell. It appears arbitrator Sue Robinson's ruling of a six-game suspension for Watson means nothing. The NFL seems to have no rhyme, or reason when it comes to dealing with punishments of its players. Why is Alvin Kamara of the Saints still on the field? Yesterday his court hearing from a brawl at a Las Vegas Hotel was pushed back a third time. Kamara was charged with felony battery following the alleged beating of an individual that had significant bodily injury. Kamara and three others are facing charges, Kamara has admitted to punching the victim and police have video evidence. Innocent until proven guilty? Yes, but not all the time! Chris is the radio voice of the Nets and was a recent guest on my podcast. Chris has a rare muscular disease and Ian talked about what an inspiration Chris is. I then asked Ian what it was like going to Syracuse University. Syracuse is one of the top broadcasting schools in the country and Ian has some phenomenal stories from his collegiate days. Ian and I then discuss what advice he has for aspiring broadcasters including obtaining perfection. I thought Ian had as close to perfection as I've seen in last January's playoff game between the Titans and Bengals. Ian spent his early years in the business at WFAN in New York. I asked him about working with Chris Russo and Suzyn Waldman, both of whom were just selected for the Radio Hall of Fame! Last night the Sacramento Republic beat Sporting KC to advance to the finals of the US Open Cup. The Republic are the first non MLS team to reach the finals since 2008. Warriors owner Joe Lacob was fined $500K by the NBA, because he went on a podcast and questioned the league's luxury tax system. The podcast was hosted by Andre Iguodala and Evan Turner. One of Lacob's players, Draymond Green, recently called former players and now ESPN host a racial slur "c##n". No fine...no suspension....nothing from the league regarding Green's racial epithet. Keegan Murray of the Sacramento Kings was named Summer league MVP. There is much reason for optimism with the player the Kings took 4th overall in last month's draft. He looks like he belongs, doesn't have a sense of entitlement and has Kings fans finally excited after 16 years of misery. To me it is very simple! I'm not going to get carried away with NBA Summer league, but the Kings have themselves a nice player in Keegan Murray! The 4th overall pick has been very impressive thus far.. Again it is only July, but you have to like what you see from Murray. Lebron James has weighed in on WNBA player Brittney Griner who is currently in a Moscow jail for allegedly carrying vape pen cartridges containing hashish oil through customs.
