When will people stop making everything about race? A few days ago, ESPN showed little leaguers pulling white stuffing out of toys and onto a black player's head. This was during the Red Sox-Orioles game at the Little League Classic. Social media went crazy of course with many appalled at watching the "racist" act as seen on ESPN. Did the accusers do any more research? Nope! Did they wait until more facts came out? Nope! It was racism!!!!!!!!!!! Embarrassing!!! What a brutal summer for the Brooklyn Nets. Great to have Mike Breen back on the podcast. Mike of course is the lead TV voice for the NBA and is also the TV announcer for the Knicks. We started off the show by Mike bragging about his beloved NY Mets. I then asked Mike about missing games in the NBA Finals due to Covid. I then asked Mike what's the most nervous he's ever been before going on the air. This led to both of us sharing our stories. Great job by the Atlanta Braves Fans yesterday. They booed one of their own several times. Marcell Ozuna returned to the lineup after his DUI arrest on Friday and the Braves fans booed him several times. Ozuna was also arrested in May 2021 on charges of aggravated assault by strangulation and battery after police said they saw him attacking his wife. After he completed a pretrial diversion program, his charges were dropped. More fans should be like the Braves fans. Why cheer athletes who repeatedly do bad things? Enough is enough! Yesterday it was reported that the 76ers and Ben Simmons reached a settlement over their contract issues. My question is why? This is one of my favorite episodes! My guest is Ryan Anderson who played 12 years in the NBA. Ryan grew up in El Dorado Hills, CA and won a high school state championship at Arco Arena, his Senior year of high school. We start off talking about family life as Ryan is now the father of a one- and three-year-old. Ryan talks about growing up in California and being drafted in the first round by New Jersey. He shares a funny story of his mom on draft night. Ryan then discusses the impact Monty Williams has had on his life. The now Phoenix Suns coach was there for Ryan when his girlfriend committed suicide when Ryan played for New Orleans. Ryan goes into great detail the pain he suffered and how the suicide of his girlfriend changed his life. We then talk about how Ryan was there for Monty when he lost his wife in an automobile accident. I then asked Ryan if he had any regrets looking back at his NBA career and gives a very interesting response regarding his time with the Houston Rockets. Today's guest is Eric Hasseltine, the voice of the Memphis Grizzlies. Eric and I go way back, and we began the conversation talking about the early days of our friendship. Eric chronicles his path in broadcasting that eventually landed him in Memphis. His ascent to the Grizzlies play-by-play man came with great heartbreak and Eric goes into detail about those very difficult days. We thank talk about Ja Morant and his greatness already at such an early age. Eric was in Memphis during the "grindhouse" era, and he talks about those Memphis teams that came close to an NBA Finals appearance. Yesterday NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league wants a tougher penalty for Browns QB Deshaun Watson. Goodell said Watson's actions were "egregious and predatory". Watson was suspended six games last week for violating the league's personal conduct policy. and the NFL appealed the ruling.
