S4 Ep 1165. Cleaning up the wreckage of the past with Luke Hutchinson
In this episode I chat with Luke Hutchinson from Adelaide about his inspiring recovery from alcohol. From a young age Luke used alcohol to numb his pain from the grief of losing his Dad and a number of friends in a short space of time. What started as a means to help him deal with his trauma became a dysfunctional and very serious addiction. Luke credits his recovery to the 12 step program which has helped him to deal with his past and create a beautiful life with his family. He continues to work on himself while inspiring others around him. S4 Ep 1064. When predators strike. One woman's story of regaining her control with Rachel Cotton
In this episode I chat with my high school friend Rachel Cotton. Growing up in the small town of Castlemaine in Central Victoria where the drinking culture with teenagers was rampant, binge drinking to blackout was just how it was done. Being out of control was not out of the ordinary and when one night her drink was spiked by some co-workers every woman's worst nightmare became her reality when she awoke and discovered that she had been raped. This podcast is a very scary reminder of the potentially dangerous situations we may have narrowly escaped or perhaps found ourselves in. A stark reminder of the importance of having agency over your own body and teaching our children the importance of staying in control and hopefully never ending up in a situation at the mercy of predators. One of the main drivers for Rach was to be able to teach her daughters there is another way and hopefully they will never have to go through what she went through Rachel is a successful photographer in Darwin, she has a gorgeous partner and a wonderful little family. She is back in full control and life is beautiful. Amanda was one of my very first coaching clients and she has been absolutely smashing it. S4 Ep 862. Mind hacking for life changing sobriety with India Morris
In this episode I catch up with India Morris who started sneaking alcohol at the age of eight. By the age of 13 she had already developed a strong drinking habit. From using alcohol as a way to escape she had developed a serious binge drinking pattern, sometimes going weeks without drinking and then drinking so much she would wake up the next day not remembering and feeling full of guilt and shame. The joy she had felt before from drinking was pretty much gone and she was becoming maudlin and depressed. She finally found the courage to stop drawing inspiration from her father who had quit when she was 12. Hacking her mind and creating new neural pathways that saw her crediting all of her good times to sobriety rather than alcohol and that was the first step in her creating lasting change. India has been sober now for eight years, and is not looking back. In this episode we chat about the life hacks that changed everything. How trusted professionals can come become predators, unexpected shifts in relationships after you give up the booze, using adrenaline nature based activities for healing trauma and when the high of sobriety wears off. S3 Ep 660. Feeling for the first time with Lindsay from Victoria
In this episode I chat with Lindsay from Victoria. Lindsay had a dangerous relationship with alcohol from the age of 14. Early in her 20's she had developed a drinking habit that was so intense she found herself isolating from friends and family so she could drink herself into oblivion. She felt that having people around her would get in the way of her drinking and that "there wasn't enough alcohol in the universe" to satisfy her. Eventually she found herself with no job, she lost her relationship and at the age of 28 she got herself to an AA meeting and she has not had a drink since. This was a great chat and Lindsay's insights are fantastic and her enthusiasm for life is infectious. S4 Ep 358. Not a total trashbag but recognising the need to change with Kat Dunell
In this episode I chat with self professed "Grey Area Drinker", Kat Dunell. Kat is a fire fighter who lives in Geelong with her husband and three kids. She partied a lot as a teenager and throughout her 20's but started to pull back a lot as she got older and had her kids. But what if you aren't a complete trash-bag but you are still relying on those few glasses of wine as a crutch to relieve stress or to wind down after work and tackling the kids evening rituals? In Jolene Park's incredible Ted Talk on Grey Area Drinking she points out that just because you haven't hit rock bottom or because you aren't smashing a bottle of vodka of night doesn't mean you aren't searching for an "off switch" though alcohol which is also a problem for some people. Not feeling great about herself, low in energy and lacking vitality Kat decided to let alcohol go. Her life just like every other guest on this show has changed so dramatically and she is gratefully living life to the fullest. In this episode I chat with international Ruby coach Karl Savimaki. In this episode Ash and I chat about all things labels. We delve into a topic that I have recently discussed with my challenge group... Labels. How is it possible to facilitate change when we are still attached to our old labels? Sometimes we don't even realise that we will still have this old belief about ourselves. So we need to look at what labels we had on ourselves and explore the possibility of creating new ones to live by. S2 Ep 929. From modelling alongside Elle Macpherson to living in the sand dunes, this is one hell of a journey with Derham Tutton.
This guest has lived a life. Derham "Norsca Love God" "Tutty" Tutton is probably one of the best story tellers I have ever come across. In the midi 70's Derham was living at the top of his game in the modelling industry, he dated Elle Macpherson, lived with Andy Warhol for two weeks (before running for the hills), he was a pro surfer, top surf coach and partied hard to keep up with the boys in the surf scene . Drugs and Alcohol took hold and he slowly unravelled until he eventually ended up living in the sand dunes, estranged from his family. Derham entered rehab and has been sober 18 months. Truthful, authentic and full of gratitude. I loved this chat. With a new love, a love for himself and a passion for life, he is back surf coaching and living his best life. If you want to reach out to "Tutty" he is happy to spin a yarn with anyone while coaching them in the water. He is happy for people to contact him on 0423255306. S2 Ep 223. From fine wines to metho with Lauren Linnane
In this heart wrenching episode I chat with Lauren Linanne, who I know from my Theatre Group. Lauren bravely shared with me her story. One of complete degradation and loss. From being in a normal relationship with two kids and collecting fine wines driving a Mercedes. Her drinking slowly started increasing until she was trying to hide her daily habit. She would end up sneaking drinks to keep her addiction from her family. She tried everything to quit from yoga to new age healers to therapists and nothing worked. She slid further and further until she found herself a meth addict, drinking metho and loosing custody of her children. Recovery has been a long road for Lauren who has now been sober and rebuilding her life for over 3 years now. S2 Ep 122. Billy Otto life is the drug.
In this first episode of season one I interview the total legend Billy Otto. Billy is a music producer, mentor and amazing musician. He has lived a pretty big life for his 32 years. He has been a Seventh Day Adventist minister and studied bible college in America. He then left that life and found his love in music and partying. He recently felt it was time to honour himself by giving up alcohol and other things he felt were holding him back. After his own self governing detox he rid himself of alcohol, porn, coffee and recreated his life. Billy is one of a kind. A beautiful soul who resonates joy with a beautiful vulnerability. He reflects on what it is to be truly masculine and to truly love your own mind and body. 19. Is your drinking affecting your kids?
In this solocast I talk about alcohol and it's effect on our kids. Sometimes it can be really hard and really painful to take an honest look at yourself and to acknowledge that alcohol is effecting those little people we are raising. It can be the smallest thing like letting them go to bed to late, to not being there to protect them when they need you. My kids were one of the main reasons I decided to quit drinking. I wanted better for myself and I wanted to be a better Mum for them. I didn't want my kids seeing me drunk or seeing me act in a way that was not cool. That was enough for me to decide and then take serious action towards giving up and I never looked back. It's never too late to change or to step up and be the example for your kids or for other kids around you. www.iquitalcohol.com.au@iquitalcoholDon't forget to rate and review. Hosted on Acast.
