17. From the top of your game to rock bottom with Jason Quin

In this episode I chat with Jason Quin, the creator of Etch Sparkling beverages. Jason saw a need to create a drink that adults could enjoy that wasn't boring, that was good for you and that was different to the usual non-alcoholic drinks on offer. Jason knows his stuff, he was at the top of his game in the wine industry and worked most of his adult life working in the alcoholic beverage industry. A global traveller for his work and living a pretty good life. Little did so many of his friends and family know that he was battling a serious alcohol addiction that was destroying him. Jason took the plunge and left his work and livelihood behind and started on a journey of transformation and wellness. He is probably one of the nicest humans I have spoken too and such a great advocate for how living authentically can change your life. In this solocast I delve in to what holds us back in our life. You know that alcohol is not serving you. If you are a binge drinker, you are fully aware that it is holding you back from your full potential. It’s bad for your health (mental and physical), it keeps you in a rut, it is costing you money, relationships, self-esteem and the list goes on. So why do we keep doing it to ourselves? Maybe the answer is fear. What are we so afraid of?for more info or a transcript of this podcast go to www.iquitalcohol.com Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

14 Cringe factor and shifting the blame to alcohol

In this monologue I cover some shared cringe factor moment. I asked for people to send in their most cringey or regretful moments caused by alcohol. Some of these can make you laugh some of them make me want to cry. We have all had them, but how often do we laugh them off and feel terrible inside. How often do we actually really attribute the blame to alcohol for these actions we regret. This is not about having no accountability but it's about realising that none of these things would have been possible without alcohol. When you really understand this you can then grasp that alcohol is not really your friend as so many of us think. Would your friend make you do things that make you cringe, things that you regret with all of your being?I urge people to write down 5 things they blame alcohol. This is a very powerful exercise and can help you release any self hatred stemming from questionable actions. It can help you realise that alcohol is not serving you and can help you to release the strong hold it may have on you. 13. Can you meditate too much? Alcohol and co-dependancy with Lucy Slater

In this episode I chat with Lucy Slater who is in recovery for co-dependancy and alcohol abuse. Lucy has done some serious work on herself and continues to do so to stay grounded and as she says to stay human. The interesting thing about Lucy is she said she actually had to quit meditation and spiritual practices in order to stay grounded, which totally blew my mind. Lucy is a total inspiration and so wonderfully honest. I loved this inspirational and insightful chat. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

4. When bingeing takes a dangerous turn - Lyndal Hunt

In this episode I talk to one of my oldest friends who silently battled a serious alcohol addiction which saw her hospitalised and isolated. Lyndal's battle with alcohol started as binge drinking as a teenager and eventually progressed in to an everyday addiction that also left her unable function without alcohol without having serious physical withdrawals. This went on for at least a decade and she was able to somehow hide this from her work colleagues, friends and family. Hiding alcohol in her desk and around various places at work she tried desperately to mask her addiction in an attempt to hold on to her corporate career and run an branch of a company in her New York office until she eventually could no longer hide it and she was fired. Moving back to Australia and trying to hide her shame Lyndal unravelled and then slowly started to rebuild herself from the inside out. She joined AA, started the steps, found love a new job, started her own little business and is well on the road to recovery. In this brutally honest conversation we chat about how bingeing creeps up on you, how alcohol can control your life and how she wouldn't change a thing.
