90. From out of control to thriving in sobriety with Lucy Quick.
In this episode I catch up with Lucy Quick from Thrivalist. We talk about how Lucy like so many of us "didn't have an off switch", she would binge and have huge blackouts. 86. Mindful mocktails with Nat Batalia
In this episode I catch up with Nat Batalia, founder of the Mindful Mocktail. Nat and I chat about the how the adjustment from life pre-kids to motherhood didn't come naturally, and how guilt from those feelings caused her drinking to start to spiral out of control. Nat was hiding her drinking from her husband and feeling so much shame and guilt which perpetuated the drinking even more. After a big wake up call, Nat realised it was time to get honest with herself and make some changes. Nat started creating beautiful alcohol free drinks to curb her craving during the witching hour which has now grown into the Mindful Mocktail. An awesome resource with loads of recipes for the most delicious healthy mocktails. We talk about getting honest with yourself. When drinking becomes your way of coping. Granting yourself some grace and some compassion. Motherhood and that massive adjustment. Getting through cravings. How through sobriety we become better role models for our kids. 85. Surviving the parenting blues in sobriety with Kate Morrison
bonusParenting can be pretty stressful, especially around the witching hour when you are trying to get it all done and the kids are driving you a bit nutty. What to do when we no longer have the go to of alcohol to escape the mundane or stressful moments of parenting? This question was put to me by someone on instagram this week so I got together with one of the HIQA graduates and mum of two, Kate Morrison. We talk about the realities of parenting and how we have survived it, we also read out some comments from other parents. Parenting is a very different gig for everyone so this is not a one size fits all. It's a conversation that is so important as there can be so much guilt associated with parenting and alcohol. 81. A positive mindset makes all the difference with Jaimi Faulkner
In this episode I catch up with our pal and amazing musician Jaimi Faulkner. It was great to catch up with this guy, last time we caught up in the flesh we were SMASHED in Italy after a chance meeting on a train on our way to Pisa. Jaimi like many of us started drinking in his teens and as he immersed himself in the Melbourne music scene his alcohol intake increased gradually over time, fast forward to an international music career and fatherhood Jaimi felt he wasn't living life to his fullest potential and that alcohol was holding him back. Now living in Germany Jaimi has been booze free for two years (at the time of recording). Jaimi has an incredibly positive outlook and after this chat I realise why letting go of alcohol was an easy choice for him, he focused more on his spiritual growth, what he was gaining and the way his relationships became so much deeper and more meaningful. Jaimi has a new album out and is currently touring in Europe to promote "Allen Keys and Broken Bits" which was born out of his journey of self discovery and his alcohol free lifestyle. 79. Learning to be kinder to yourself with Sarah from Canberra
In this episode I chat with Sarah from Canberra who was a participant in the HIQA October challenge. Sarah's issues with alcohol started later in life when the shift from dynamic career to the monotony and isolation of motherhood lead her to seek escape every night in a bottle of wine or two. Like so many mothers, Sarah had to deal with the guilt and the conflicting feelings that can arise in motherhood which set her on a path of relying on the bottle to numb out which then became the crutch to deal with life. We talk about how learning to be more mindful has given her more satisfaction in the small things. How sobriety has given her a greater connection to her family and herself and how she is learning to be kinder to herself. In this episode I mention Suzanah Espie and her awesome album Mothers Not Feeling Herself Today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWWntDOAAMI which you can purchase on bandcamp belowhttps://suzannahespie.bandcamp.com/album/mothers-not-feeling-herself-todayFor more resources or to find out to register for the HIQA 6 week sober challenge starting o May 1 goto. https://www.iquitalcohol.com.auReach out via insta @howiquitaloholor [email protected] podcast was proudly brought to you by Monday Distillery, purveyors of beautiful, sugar free, non-alcoholic beverages.
