Ep 140How To Talk About Grief And Loss To Children with Francesca Lynn Arnoldy

Whenever we avoid discussing death in front of our children, we might think we are sparing them suffering, but we are not. Keeping things from children only creates more room for fear than anything; it is not protection. In this episode, I'm excited to be joined by the Community Doula and death literacy advocate Francesca Lynn Arnoldy. She is the Author of "Cultivating the Doula Heart," "The Doula's Guide to Living Fully and Dying Prepared," and the children's book "Map Of Memory Lane," a beautifully illustrated story especially designed to deal with kids' curious nature and help them find an answer to some of their big questions about death and grief. Throughout this episode, Francesca talks about her journey from childbirth educator to writing and educating about the "other end of life." She shares details of that process, which ended up with her developing the University of Vermont's End-of-Life Doula Professional Certificate Programs. Francesca also offers guidance on how to approach discussions about death, grief, and loss with children, what we can do to help them develop the language to deal with it, how to make them feel safe, and more. Listen to episode 140 of Grief and Happiness to learn a safer way to talk to our children about death, loss, and how to find happiness in grief. In This Episode, You Will Learn:A bit about Francesca and her backstory from childbirth educator to grief expert (3:00)Children must learn about death and grief (8:10)It is okay not knowing what happens after we die (12:20)About Francesca's gentle way of talking about death "Map Of Memory Lane" (16:20)How to talk about death with our children (19:00)Connect with Francesca:WebsiteFrancesca's Linktr.eeBooksYouTubeInstagramFacebookLet's Connect:WebsiteLinkedInFacebookInstagramTwitterPinterestThe Grief and Happiness AllianceBook: Emily Thiroux Threatt - Loving and Living Your Way Through Grief Hosted on Acast. Ep 136Using Unconditional Love To Navigate Grief with Mike Murphy

If you go through grief soberly, with intention, and feel it. If you don't escape it, run from it, and don't medicate against it, you will evolve into a bigger, better, more loving person, for sure.In this episode, I'm joined by Mike Murphy, a bestselling author, speaker, coach, and consultant. After almost ten years of battling breast cancer, Mike's wife, Margot, learned the disease was spreading to her brain. The oncologist explained: "If you do nothing, you have six weeks to live; if you start treatment, you have six months." For the next six months, Margot and Mike enjoyed every day as if she were going to beat cancer, and at night they'd get ready for her last breath. Margot's final six months inspired "Living in Color," a moving and honest memoir, where Mike describes the passion and courageous attitude Margot had in her almost ten years battle with breast cancer. Mike also created the Love From Margot Foundation, which has helped hundreds of women with breast cancer living below the poverty line. Throughout this episode, we chat about life and death, grief, legacy, and purpose. Mike talks about the changes Margot's death produced in him, how it changed his views on transitioning, his purpose in life, and navigating grief. We also go through the Transformational Health Retreat Mike is building in Colombia, Mike's passion for helping people around the world figure out how the universe really works, and so much more. Tune in and listen to episode 136 to learn about Mike's grief journey and his passion for helping others find happiness and fulfillment. In This Episode, You Will Learn:A bit about Mike and Margot's love story (2:30)What is missing in our medical system (5:10)Being brave is too hard sometimes (9:50)Some questions are just too hard to answer (11:40)The importance of saying goodbye (16:00)The importance of being intentional while going through grief (21:20)Connect with Mike:WebsiteYouTubeInstagramTwitterLinkedInTikTokFacebookGet Mike's booksLet's Connect:WebsiteLinkedInFacebookInstagramTwitterPinterestThe Grief and Happiness Alliance Hosted on Acast. Ep 114The Strength to Live with Cindy Tank-Murphy

Trigger warning: Today's episode touches on extremely sensitive and upsetting topics.Losing someone to suicide is perhaps one of the most challenging and painful forms of grieving. Is it possible to find healing and hope after a loss from suicide? In today's episode, I'm joined by the Best-selling author, International speaker, and Mental Health advocate, Cindy Tank-Murphy, author of "The Strength to Live: Finding Healing and Hope After a Loss From Suicide." Cindy's work promotes conversations about overcoming the grief from suicide and the mental health epidemic the world is suffering from. Although the idea of writing a book had always been in Cindy's head, she never thought her first book would be about suicide, motivated by her father's decision to take his own life.  Throughout this episode, Cindy shares how losing her father to suicide in 2014 abruptly changed her views on grief and mental health issues and urged her to build safer places for her thoughts and feelings through writing. We also talk about how crucial it is to pay attention to the immense power of words and how to release fears and experience healing through writing and journaling. Additionally, we discuss how touching on sensible topics, such as the death of a child, might help to heal, the importance of losing the fear of saying something inappropriate, and more. Listen to episode 114 of Grief and Happiness and discover new ways of connecting with your strength to live after a loss from suicide. In This Episode, You Will Learn:A bit about Cindy and her decision to write a book about suicide and mental health (2:11)How to deal with ignorant comments (9:13)The importance of acknowledging red flags (16:18)The therapeutic properties of writing your feelings on a piece of paper (22:05)How to be at peace with knowing that you might say the wrong thing at the wrong time (31:01)Connect with Cindy:WebsiteInstagramFacebookEmail: [email protected]: Cindy Tank-Murphy - The Strength to Live: Finding Healing and Hope After a Loss From SuicideLet's Connect:WebsiteLinkedInFacebookInstagramTwitterPinterestThe Grief and Happiness AllianceBook: Emily Thiroux Threatt - Loving and Living Your Way Through Grief Hosted on Acast.
