It was a big week for the Penn State football team with a high-visibility win on the road against SEC opponent Auburn. But what does that win do for recruiting? Subscribe to BWI on YouTube: https://bit.ly/3LtYmD3Host Ryan Snyder and Sean Fitz, two recruiting veterans of the Penn State football beat discuss what transpired over the weekend with Nittany Lions recruiting in the wake of a blowout win. The Nittany Lion commit has taken a handful of visits to other schools since committing to Penn State and Snyder asked him about that this weekend. He relays what the Alabama native said and gives his perspective on the situation. Next, they discuss the recent update of the On300, which had positive and negative movements for the Nittany Lions. He'll also share his impressions on two interviews he did this week with 2025 top targets Anthony Sacca and Jeff Exinor, before wrapping up today's recruiting info with a look at the receiver situation for 2023. Ep 349BWI Daily: Penn State vs Auburn preview

Penn State football concludes its home-and-home series with Auburn this Saturday with a trip down to Jordan-Hare Stadium to play the Tigers. Blue White Illustrated publisher Sean Fitz and senior editor Nate Bauer are back to break down the game and give Penn State fans the definitive preview of the matchup. They start the show with news and notes from Penn State's open practice on Wednesday night. First, they highlight Theo Johnson's return and players participating with the team who were previously injured. Next, they give their thoughts on what they saw from players and coaches at open practice. After finishing up their discussion about the week in Penn State news, they shift their focus to the upcoming game against Auburn. Fitz starts with his view of the Tigers and what they bring to the field as an opponent. Next, they dive into the offense and highlight transfer quarterback TJ Finley, who starts for Auburn. Fitz has watched the film and thinks that Penn State will have specific opportunities that they haven't so far against this quarterback. With that in mind, Bauer shifts the show's focus to the running game to understand how the Tigers want to attack the Nittany Lions. Fitz wraps up his thoughts about the offense before Bauer shifts the show's focus to the Penn State offense. It's not a familiar place, but Fitz thinks that Penn State has an advantage in this game's key area. They discuss Nick Singlton's ability to have a follow-up performance to his 179 yards against Ohio and the key receivers that have the chance to make plays based on Auburn's coverage schemes. Ep 348BWI Daily: Demystifying the Auburn running game

Penn State football takes on Auburn Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium for a non-conference road clash with the Auburn Tigers of the SEC. With that, only one question has been on the mind of Penn State fans heading into the game. Can Penn State stop the Auburn rushing attack? Host of the BWI Daily Edition, Thomas Frank Carr, tackles that question on the show to try and demystify the non-conference opponent that most fans are probably unfamiliar with. He discusses the offensive line in depth and shifts his focus to the primary rushing threats in the Tigers' offense. T-Frank starts by discussing the problem with our collective understanding of the offensive line in football. With no hard statistics to illustrate individual performance, it can be hard to explain to people how well a group of players who cannot touch the ball is performing. Also, he points out a flaw in the media's ability to understand the position. So to describe what he's seen on film, he uses PFF run blocking grades for his evidence. From there, he goes through each of the Auburn starters that he expects to play against Penn State on Saturday. He gives their performance against San Jose St. from week two and their run blocking grades from last season where applicable. He paints a picture of performance, scheme, and talent for the audience. Next, he looks at the rushing threat presented by Tank Bigsby, Jarquez Hunter, and backup quarterback Robby Ashford. Then he highlights the explosive play ability of this group and compares the Auburn rushing attack to teams closer to home for the Nittany Lions. Finally, he shines the light on the Penn State defense tasked with stopping them. Does Penn State have the size and strength up front to stop the Auburn offensive line? Is that even the right question? He concludes on Penn State's chances of limiting Auburn's rushing attack and containing the big-play threats they present. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 347Recruiting Show: Penn State picks up another corner in the Class of 2023, new pick is in for 2024 defensive end

Penn State recruiting doesn't have much momentum, but that doesn't mean they're stagnant. The BWI Daily Recruiting show is back and better than ever to cover the Nittany Lions' efforts to secure the next generation of athletes. Recruiting veteran Sean Fitz joins Blue White Illustrated insider Ryan Snyder to discuss the latest news. Subscribe so you don't miss Fitz and Snyder! https://bit.ly/3KzEcqKThey start the show discussing Penn State's newest commit, three-star cornerback Zion Tracy. The St. Thomas More post-graduate player committed to the Nittany Lions over the weekend in a quiet move that many casual recruiting fans may not have noticed. Fitz and Snyder detail the rise of Tracy from a likable regional player into a prospect that Penn State had to take seriously. They explain how he ended up in the class of 2023 and what pivotal moment changed him into a pursuable prospect for the Nittany Lions. Next, they dip into the main event heading into last weekend, the Ohio vistor list. It was one of the most jam-packed lists for a home opener in recent memory, so Snyder and Fitz run down the important names in attendance, including some top-5 players nationally. From there, they discuss Snyder's recent RPM pick for Maryland native and top-150 edge defender Dominic Nichols. So is the 6-5 Oakdale edge defender going to commit to Penn State soon? Snyder explains why he made a prediction for Nichols and how strongly he feels about it. Another important event this weekend was the duel between Iowa State commit JJ Kohl, and Penn State commit Jaxon Smolik in Iowa. Snyder attended the game and brought back footage and impressions of the future Nittany Lion quarterback. How did Smolik perform? Snyder explains how the defense he faced made it tough to come away with any hard information. Finally, the two leaders in Penn State recruiting intel give their thoughts about the class of 2023. Fitz comments on how one decommitment this summer stung more than the rest, and Snyder reviews the positions where Penn State is still fishing for players. Beyond that, they'll look at the changes in the receiving room from week one to week two and how that shakeup reflects the optimism or pessimism of the position moving forward. Ep 344BWI Daily: Five Things to watch for in Penn State vs. Ohio

Penn State football takes on Ohio Saturday at noon for the home opener at Beaver Stadium. To get fans ready for the game, the host of the BWI Daily Edition, Thomas Frank Carr, breaks down the five things to watch for in Saturday’s non-conference game. T-Frank has studied the Bobcats and describes their interesting wrinkles and matchups that Penn State can exploit.First, T-Frank looks at the Ohio running game, where he noticed some interesting wrinkles that the Penn State defense hasn't seen recently. He asked head coach James Franklin about that earlier this week and replays that answer on the show. Next, he deconstructs what Franklin said in more detail to explain the advantages of Ohio's pistol formation to the audience. He brings that up because Penn State struggled last week in run defense at critical times, according to Franklin. With a new wrinkle and a new defensive scheme, the Nittany Lions need to take that step in improvement so they don't get caught flat-footed against Ohio. Next, T-Frank points out what he saw on the other side of the ball from Ohio in run defense. Then, he explains how he'd attack the linebackers and where he'd "avoid", understanding that Penn State should be dominant in every area of the game. Third, T-Frank points to the players he'd attack in coverage for Ohio. He has two players in particular that he'd exploit, describing what routes and players he'd use to do it. The second thing you should watch for comes in the scheme that Ohio runs on offense. Aside from the run game wrinkles, T-Frank identifies the other types of plays Ohio deploys and why. Finally, he gets to the number one thing that fans should watch on Saturday. Check out the video to see what that is. T-Frank will also take questions live from the YouTube audience as he gives his five things, giving fans a chance to interact with the show. Ep 343BWI Daily: Penn State vs. Ohio game preview with Sean Fitz

Penn State football opens its 2022 home game slate on Saturday at Beaver Stadium against Ohio. To get you ready for the game, publisher of Blue White Illustrated Sean Fitz and senior editor Nate Bauer discuss the important storylines heading into the weekend. Bauer starts the show with the news that Fitz is joining the BWI Daily on Thursdays, moving forward to bring his insider knowledge to the show. The duo wastes no time doing precisely that. Fitz and Bauer start the show discussing what they observed at Penn State's open practice on Wednesday night, including the status of several Nittany Lion defenders who were absent last week in the win against Purdue. They also share what they saw with Jaylen Reed, who was injured in the final drive of the game on Thursday. Next, they shift gears to what players they're excited to see play on Saturday. Some of them, such as freshman quarterback Drew Allar, made an appearance last week, but Bauer and Fitz are keen to see more. Speaking of making an appearance, the duo also are eager to see more from Abdul Carter, who was ejected on his first defensive play for a questionable targeting call in the first half of week one. Next, they discuss the running back rotation and which freshmen other than Carter and Allar they hope to get a better look at on Saturday. From there, Fitz previews what Penn State is facing on Saturday by giving fans an overview of the Ohio Bobcats. Then, he breaks down the offensive and defensive standouts for the team and his thoughts on their top players. Finally, he delivers the key matchups that Penn State needs to win to win the decisive victory that fans are looking for. For the Nittany Lions' defense, he focuses on how to stop Ohio quarterback Kurtis Rourke, who is likely the team's best player. Fitz was impressed with Rourke's skills in week one and highlighted how to stop him. Offensively, he thinks this is a game that Penn State could get a very important and elusive part of their attack up and running. But, ultimately, he and Bauer agree that Penn State should have a hugely successful day, given their score predictions. Ep 342BWI Daily: Is Landon Tengwall a better tackle or guard?

Penn State football fans have lots of questions after the team's season-opening win against Purdue nearly a week ago. So the BWI Daily mailbag show will give you some of those answers. Host Thomas Frank Carr and senior editor Nate Bauer discuss fans' questions submitted to the Blue White Illustrated message board. Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube, so you don't miss the show. They start the show with a discussion about the Penn State running game. A message board member wants to know if the Nittany Lions offense should take Fox commentator Joel Klatt's suggestion and line the Penn State running backs up deeper in the backfield to give them a running start at the handoff. Bauer gives his thoughts on the matter before T-Frank describes what he saw on film during the game. From there, T-Frank shifts the conversation towards freshman Nick Singleton and how using him in certain formations could be advantageous for specific reasons. They also discuss the travel roster for away games and the rules set by the Big Ten. Now that teams are making exponentially more money, is that an outdated rule? T-Frank and Bauer discuss that theoretical change in the future. From there, that conversation bleeds into one about the wide receiver position. Does Penn State have a clear picture of their rotation beyond Parker Washington and Mitchell Tinsley? Bauer tells T-Frank what he knows about the situation. The next question deals with rotation at all positions but focuses on the running backs. Does the staff need to limit the rotation of that group to get players in a rhythm? T-Frank doesn't buy the rhythm theory, but he does explain why getting more opportunities for one player is advantageous based on his experience. They answer questions about how fans should view the game and the opponent from week one and how it compares to last season's opening win against Wisconsin. They also take an extended portion of the show to discuss Landon Tengwall's best position, the problem at right tackle, and if it's too early to worry about those players. They wrap up the show discussing Keaton Ellis' performance and how Penn State can match up against Ohio State in a month. 00:00 Show Intro02:30 Show changes going forward05:11 Lining RBs up deeper in the backfield09:30 Outlook for RB room and breakdown of performance 12:37 Big Ten travel roster expansion?15:30 Wide receiver depth discussion19:15 Player/running back rotation27:40 Landon Tengwall and the o-line issues34:47 Keaton Ellis standing out 37:31 Penn State's defense and how it can work against Ohio State Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The new publisher of BWI, Sean Fitz, joins the BWI Daily Edition to give his preview of the Penn State offense and defense. Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated: https://bit.ly/3KzEcqKFirst, Fitz and host Thomas Frank Carr discuss Fitz's journey back to Blue White Illustrated after years of working elsewhere on the Penn State football beat. 00:00 Show Open02:08 Sean Fitz introduction04:10 Quarterback breakdown06:57 Running back breakdown11:07 Offensive Line breakdown14:07 Wide receiver breakdown16:00 Tight end breakdown20:06 Defensive tackle breakdown22:20 Defensive end breakdown24:15 Linebackers 27:33 SecondaryThey start at the quarterback position, where once again, Sean Clifford is the starter. What more can we learn about Clifford? Furthermore, can he take the next step as a player? Fitz gives his thoughts before the first game. Outside of Clifford, he gives his assessment of the depth at quarterback and how radically different it is from a year ago. Next, they preview the running back position and how Nick Singleton isn't the only freshman Penn State is excited to play. He and T-Frank discuss how one aspect of Kaytron Allen's game has been a revelation for the staff. After touching on each running back, they transition to the offensive line. Is this the year? Fitz takes a page out of James Franklin's book for that answer. They go through the offensive line and give the pros and cons for the group. From there, they discuss the receivers and which players can step up for the group to play meaningful snaps in 2022. However, the group starts with third-year player Parker Washington. Next, Fitz folds in the tight ends to the discussion because if the receivers can't find consistency, will we see more two-tight end sets? T-Frank and Fitz discuss that reality and debate who those players could be. Finally, they transition to the defensive line. Fitz highlights the players he thinks will stand out on the defensive line at tackle and then raises his concerns about the defensive end position. The linebackers are a polarizing group. Curtis Jacobs enters year three as the group's headliner, but beyond him, what else is there? Fitz tells T-Frank if he thinks Penn State fans are validated in their concerns. Lastly, they wrap up with the strength of the team, the secondary. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 335Recruiting Show: Jameial Lyons dominates in Week One | Penn State commit roundup

Penn State's committed players in the class of 2023 took the field last weekend. Blue White Illustrated's recruiting insider Ryan Snyder was at several games this weekend and recaps what he saw from several players, including four-star defensive end Jameial Lyons. He and host Greg Pickel discuss the essential players from the past weekend and how they performed. First, the show starts off with a loss for Penn State in recruiting. Four-star linebacker Kaveion Keys committed to North Carolina on Monday. How firm is that commitment? Snyder gives what he knows about keys and how the Tarheels might not be the last stop for Keys on this journey. Next, they break down the players that stood out for Penn State in the first week of the high school season. Snyder attended Roman Catholic's game against Wilson and gave his thoughts about four-star receiver Tyseer Denmark, a high-profile 2024 prospect, and Lyons, a four-star defensive end commit for Penn State this cycle. He explains how much Lyons was asked to do during the game for Roman and then highlights his key plays. Next, they discuss other commits, including J'Ven Williams, quarterback Jaxon Smolik, and 2024 commit Cooper Cousins. Pickel follows up with Snyder about two players he highlights to learn a bit more in Conrad Hussey and King Mack. The St. Thomas Aquinas teammates are high-profile targets for several other programs down south, so does Snyder think they'll stay committed to Penn State? He explains his thoughts on the matter. Lastly, they look ahead to Thursday night's game against Purdue to get Snyder's thoughts on what he thinks will happen. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 334BWI Daily: Recapping James Franklin's comments from Monday morning | Drew Allar moving up the depth chart

Penn State football begins the 2022 season on Thursday night when they head to West Lafayette to take on the Purdue Boilermakers at 8 pm on Sept 1. To start the week, Penn State had various players available to the media, and head coach James Franklin held his weekly press conference. Greg Pickel of Blue White Illustrated joins host Thomas Frank Carr on the BWI Daily Edition to break down what they heard. They start with the biggest news of the day; five-star quarterback Drew Allar is getting the backup nod over second-year passer Christian Veilleux. Franklin's comments came near the end of Monday's 35-minute discussion with the media. First, Pickel and T-Frank discuss what we know and don't know about the situation behind starting quarterback Sean Clifford. Then Pickel details the journey that Allar, an early enrollee, took this season. The five-star signal caller wasn't the early leader in the competition between true freshmen. Instead, he and fellow 2022 quarterback Beau Pribula dueled in the spring, with Pribula being the early standout. But reports were during training camp that Allar rounded the corner and had begun to make strides. Apparently, those strides were significant enough to move him ahead and create competition with backup Christian Veilleux. They also discuss the camp battle between Hunter Nourzad and Saleem Wormley at guard. Franklin updated that situation on Monday to include left guard Landon Tengwall in the discussion. Finally, t-Frank and Pickel discuss the pros and cons of playing three players at guard and how that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Pickel cites past situations that looked similar at the start of the year but produced sub-par results. Meanwhile, T-Frank points to the opportunity for competition to raise the level of play for each player. Lastly, T-Frank and Pickel dive into the conversations that Pickel had with the players available during the day for Penn State. T-Frank asks for Pickel's assessment of what they said and what interesting things stood out about their comments. Pickel left those conversations with one big takeaway. The day isn't over for Penn State football. Check out Blue White Illustrated on YouTube this evening for Penn State highlights and a recap of the open practice period. Finally, tune in 20 minutes after the conclusion on Penn State and Purdue on Saturday for the BWI Live Postgame show featuring Thomas Frank Carr and Tom Hannifan. Ep 333BWI Daily: Four players T-Frank can't wait to watch this season

The 2022 Penn State football season starts next Thursday night, but the host of the BWI Daily Edition, Thomas Frank Carr, can't wait any longer. So he's here to wrap up the week with the four players he can't wait to see play football. These players aren't necessarily the best players on the team, nor are they the most important to Penn State's success on Thursday. While some may overlap in both categories, the common thread with all four players is that we know very little concrete information about each player. None of these players have seen extensive time on the football field for Penn State and are enigmatic football players that will play for the Nittany Lions this year. Without revealing the list ahead of time, there are two offensive and defensive players that T-Frank highlights and only one freshman. He goes through the list starting at number four and explains why each player is so intriguing. Some have compelling upsides, while others are mysterious talents that we have yet to realize their potential. Check out the video for the full list. Ep 332BWI Daily: Can Adisa Isaac and company get more sacks in 2022?

We're one week away from the start of the 2022 season for Penn State football. To get fans ready for the upcoming festivities, the BWI Daily Edition is taking questions from viewers of the show. If you'd like to get your question on the show, the best way is to sign up for Blue White Illustrated and access the Lions Den Message Board. Sign up for just one dollar and get 12 months of insider access. Today, host Thomas Frank Carr and reporter Greg Pickel answer questions ranging from Penn State's sack total in 2022 to whether or not transfer Chop Robinson will play linebacker. They start the show with a question from a message board member about the plan of attack for the Penn State defense. After years of sack totals that led the nation, Penn State's defense took a step backward last year in that category. Will new defensive coordinator Manny Diaz and starting defensive end Adisa Isaac surpass the numbers from last season? And can anyone replace what Arnold Ebikeite did for the team? First, T-Frank and Pickel set the scene with what they know about Diaz's approach. Next, they give a prediction of how Penn State would exceed those numbers in 2022. Also, T-Frank points out the need for a player, or players, to set up and provide a replicable presence of what Ebiketie did last year for Penn State. Next, they discuss Penn State's decision to play Olu Fashanu and Landon Tengwall beside one another on the left side of the line. Is there a reason for that? T-Frank gets into the history of offensive line skills and where coaches have traditionally played players with specific abilities. Next, he explains how all of that has changed over time and what skills are needed in a modern football game. From there, they dive into a discussion about Purdue and safeties coach Anthony Poindexter. Does he have additional insight into the Boilermakers after spending several seasons there as a coach? T-Frank and Pickel debate the merits of that thought. The duo covers other viewers' topics, such as where Maryland transfer Chop Robinson will play this fall. T-Frank explains the difference between Penn State's linebacker room this year and in previous years. The commenter also suggests that Alabama has 250-pound linebackers and cites that as a source of weakness for Penn State. T-Frank tries to dispel this myth by explaining the difference between an edge rusher and an off-ball linebacker. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 331BWI Daily: PJ Mustipher discusses how camp went for him and if he's ready for Purdue

Penn State defensive tackle PJ Mustipher injured his knee on Oct. 9 of last season. He was back and ready to participate in training camp in just around nine months. So, how did that process go, and how was training camp for the senior defensive tackle? That's what the BWI Daily Edition discusses today after Mustipher spoke with the media on Tuesday night. Host Thomas Frank Carr breaks down what happened, how impressive Mustipher's return to play timeline is and shows you what Mustipher had to say about his readiness to face Purdue on Sept. 1. T-Frank starts the show by reviewing where Mustipher was at the start of camp and what milestones he had passed on his way back from injury. But now that he's had a month of football, where is he physically? Finally, we hear from Mustipher about how the camp went and how he thought he performed. Next, T-Frank explains why that's such an impressive feat. He also explains why he's confident Mustipher tore his ACL against Iowa last October and how hard it is to be ready in nine months for a player like Mustipher. What went into that? Mustipher explains what he learned about himself and adversity. Finally, the Penn State team leader gives an upate on what he can and can't do against Purdue. He also hints at how the Penn State defensive line will rotate players this season.JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annualSUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmationBookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters: https://bluewhiteonline.comDownload our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 329BWI Daily: Penn State open practice reactions. Is Chop Robinson ready to contribute Week One?

Penn State held an open practice on Saturday and as always, Blue White Illustrated was there to give you insights into which players are standing out and which groups are making progress through the summer. Today, host Thomas Frank Carr and senior editor Nate Bauer focus on the offensive and defensive lines to give Nittany Lion fans a snippet of practice. They discuss the pass-rushing drills both T-Frank and Bauer watched on Saturday. It was a longer session than normal for the media, so the pair took in one-on-one drills with the offensive and defensive line. A battle between Dani Dennis-Sutton and Drew Shelton was the highlight for Bauer, while T-Frank paid attention to left tackle Olu Fashanu's performance. Next, T-Frank and Bauer discuss Maryland transfer Demeioun "Chop" Robinson and his progress through camp. T-Frank got a chance to watch him work in drills and has a verdict on whether or not he'll be a major factor to begin the season at Purdue. Bauer backs up what T-Frank saw with some of his insight into the situation. Finally, Bauer throws out several other names, like freshman linebacker Abdul Carter that stood out to him in practice. Ep 328BWI Daily: Big Ten media deal breakdown, mailbag

The Big Ten just announced its long-awaited media deal that resets the college football landscape with a massive payout for the conference. So, the natural question for Penn State fans is how that will affect the athletic department of their favorite school. First, senior Editor Nate Bauer covers the new deal and shares what he knows from his conversations with sources at Penn State. Then, he and host Thomas Frank Carr talk about the impact not only on Penn State but the individual programs, the conference landscape, and college football. Finally, after discussing the day's breaking news, Bauer and T-Frank answer questions from fans in the BWI Mailbag. First, Bauer and T-Frank discuss how the numbers stack up for individual teams in the Big Ten in the new media contract that will last for seven years. Then, Bauer explains where he thinks Penn State might focus its new additional revenue, based on his conversation with new athletic director Pat Kraft earlier this summer. He also explains what the money won't do for Penn State or another Big Ten team. T-Frank pushes back on that notion. After discussing some of the fine points to the matter, they focus on a larger picture and discuss what's next for the Big Ten. For example, why hasn't the conference been more aggressive in expansion? Finally, Bauer and T-Frank offer differing thoughts on what the end goal of the conference should be. After wrapping up that discussion, they focus on the BWI Mailbag. Some of the questions this week include a discussion on how many points Penn State needs to be ahead by to see quarterback Christian Veilleux in the game. They'll also discuss how important tackles Olu Fashanu and Caedan Wallace are to the success of the team in 2022. They preview Penn State's matchup against Purdue Week One, discuss Manny Diaz's interest in staying at Penn State, and how many points his defense gives up in the first year at a new program. One viewer wants to know how many players will rotate in the front seven, and T-Frank uses that as a chance to update fans on what James Franklin said about the middle linebacker competition between Tyler Elsdon and Kobe King earlier this week. Finally, they'll touch on various recruiting topics, including a five-star defensive end who decommitted from Notre Dame and what Penn State plans to do at defensive tackle in the Class of 2023. Ep 327BWI Daily: Previewing Purdue's defense

Penn State football is hard at work getting ready to face Purdue in Week One of the 2022 season, and so is film analyst Thomas Frank Carr. Today, he and senior editor Nate Bauer flip spots on the BWI Daily Edition so Bauer can ask questions of T-Frank and find out what he saw on film. To start, T-Frank and Bauer asks T-Frank to describe the overall scheme for Purdue and how the defense functions for the Boilermakers. However, T-Frank takes a different approach by describing the players that Purdue lost and how that changes what they might want to do on defense. Then, he follows back up to explain how the scheme flows from the defensive line. Without first-round edge rusher George Karlaftis bringing the heat on quarterbacks, can Purdue be as successful in 2022? T-Frank points to Murray State transfer Scotty Humpich as a potential solution and gives his thoughts on the talents of the transfer edge rusher. Next, they discuss the secondary and what Purdue likes to do defensively. T-Frank describes how conservative or aggressive the team is and what coverages they like to play. From there, he talks about the strength of the Purdue defense, which is up the middle. He is impressed by senior defensive tackle Branson Deen and his ability to cause havoc on the interior. But can Penn State control Deen and fellow returning starter Lawrence Johnson? Bauer digs deeper into that group, and T-Frank gives his thoughts. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 325BWI Daily: Penn State five-star freshmen turning the corner in camp

Penn State football is now through two weeks of training camp, and players are starting to generate real buzz heading into the beginning of the 2022 season. The good news for Penn State fans is that the five-star freshmen, quarterback Drew Allar, running back Nick Singleton, and defensive end Dani-Dennis-Sutton are among that group. Penn State insider Nate Bauer joins host Thomas Frank Carr to discuss which players have gotten the staff's attention. They start the show with quarterback Drew Allar. Bauer tells T-Frank what information he's gathered from his sources about the young signal caller and how he's performed after a summer studying the playbook. T-Frank and Bauer then call back to the spring where Allar was behind the group to illustrate this significant change. Next, they continue the conversation from last week about cornerback Johnny Dixon. The former South Carolina transfer has continued to take steps forward. How does that change the topography of the cornerback room? Bauer and T-Frank discuss the wealth of talent at cornerback and how that can help Penn State. The last group of players they discuss is the freshmen running backs. Just how good have Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen been? Bauer gathers what he knows and presents it to the audience. T-Frank then shifts gears to discuss the news from the weekend that former four-star running back Caziah Holmes is no longer on the roster for Penn State football. T-Frank points to a critical date that probably crystallized the picture for the Nittany Lions. Finally, Bauer gives his thoughts on the situation. The last piece of news the duo discusses on the show is the breaking development this morning where three-star defensive end Ken Talley entered his name into the transfer portal after just two weeks on campus. While there isn't much known about the situation, Bauer and T-Frank detail the rocky road that got Talley on campus this summer. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 324BWI Daily: Previewing Penn State's class of 2024 defensive prospects with Ryan Snyder

This week's focus is on the class of 2023, with Penn State landing four-star receiver Carmelo Taylor and three-star quarterback Jaxon Smolik. Yet August is a typically slow period for recruiting in the current cycle so it's also a good time to discuss the next class. Host Thomas Frank Carr and recruiting insider Ryan Snyder finish up their look at the Penn State prospects in the class of 2024 by focusing on the defense. They start up front with the defensive line. Edge defender is once again deep in the region with several nationally relevant players. However, according to Snyder, the name to know for the Nittany Lions is four-star defensive end Dominic Nichols. After that, Snyder and T-Frank go through the top names, including Brian Robinson and Jaylen Harvey. The defensive tackle board is less clear at this point, but DeMatha Catholic lineman Emmett Laws is a name to know at the position. Next up is the explosive group of linebackers in 2024. Several players already have made names for themselves, including Pittsburgh Catholic's Anthony Speca and Good Counsel's Aaron Chiles. Snyder mentions several other names that are key to the group. Philadelphia natives Kenny Woseley Jr and Omillio Agard are critical pieces to the pictures at cornerback. Still, the group needs to shake out more in the months to come, according to Snyder. Finally, a deep and long list of safeties rounds out the show. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 323BWI Daily: Will camp battle between Hunter Nourzad and Saleem Wormley produce real depth?

Penn State football held an open practice on Wednesday night before head coach James Franklin and several members of the team and staff spoke with the media afterward. Today on the BWI Daily Edition, host Thomas Frank Carr and senior editor Nate Bauer discuss what they saw and heard last night before opening the BWI Daily mailbag and answer questions from fans. Bauer and T-Frank start by offering their impressions of practice and what Franklin said when speaking to media members after practice. Bauer points to the young players and their development so far. He comments on Franklin's assertion that the group collectively "hit a wall" in installation this week. T-Frank picks up on that thread and points to the Nittany Lion's Week one matchup with Purdue and how important it is for the team to be ready early in the season. Meanwhile, T-Frank focused on the players returning from injury and how they are progressing in the second week of camp. He observed defensive linemen PJ Mustipher and Adisa Isaac going through drills and gives his feedback. Next, they discuss Bauer's conversation with Ji'Ayir Brown and how the senior safety discussed his fellow teammates in the secondary. Does he see each of them progressing in the necessary areas? And does Bauer believe that to be the case if he does? After wrapping up with some final thoughts, the pair moves on to the mailbag portion of the show. The first question deals with Penn State's other freshman running back. How much are fans or media overlooking four-star freshman Kaytron Allen? Bauer rejects the notion that Blue White Illustrated has overlooked Allen but details what he's heard that indicates the question is correct in spirit. They also take on the interior of the offensive line and the position battle between Hunter Nourzad and Sal Wormley. Who is the starter? Which players are trying to get snaps where? T-Frank pushes the conversation past Wormely and Nourzad to include center Juice Scruggs and left guard Landon Tengwall. Bauer and T-Frank also discuss the intricacies of the new Big Ten media right deal from both a football and basketball perspective. Does college basketball in the Big Ten take a hit with the move away from ESPN? T-Frank wonders aloud how television stations that don't have four of five dedicated channels like ESPN will broadcast games. He speculates that streaming could be a future but Bauer points to the reality of the situation. Next, they tackle the new deal from a football angle. What happens to the White Out now that Fox has the rights to marquee games? Fox's plan of playing big games at noon ruins the atmosphere of one of the iconic scenes in sports. Bauer has a strong opinion on the type of question asked, while T-Frank enjoys a moment speculating. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. The conversation, hosted by Bauer, centers around quarterback Aidan O’Connel, who broke out in his fifth-year with the Boilermakers. T-Frank, Blue White Illustrated’s film analyst, breaks down what he’s seen, good and bad, from O’Connel and how he elevates the Purdue passing attack. Bauer and T-Frank discuss the strengths of the offense, playcaller Brian Brohm, and what they can do to threaten Penn State. Next, they discuss what the best plan of attack might be for the Nittany Lions under new defensive coordinator Manny Diaz. Finally, they wrap up with how T-Frank thinks the game will play out. Ep 321BWI Daily: On3's J.D. PicKell discusses Penn State's spot in the national picture

Penn State fans know their program inside and out. They know the players, the staff, and sometimes, even the Xs and Os. But where do the Nittany Lions sit in the national perspective? To answer that, the host of the Hard Count, J.D. PicKell joins Thomas Frank Carr on the BWI Daily Edition. The Hard Count is the flagship program of On3's national YouTube channel. If you're interested in checking out more from J.D. click here. T-Frank and J.D. start by getting PicKell's perspective on Penn State and explaining what the Nittany Lions' reputation is on a national level. Are they still seen as a borderline elite team after two unsuccessful seasons? Then, PicKell gives his expectations for the program this fall. From there, they dive into his thoughts on quarterback Sean Clifford. Will he return to form and play like the winning quarterback he was in 2019? Or will he continue to underperform expectations? First, PicKell points to the offense and the running game to answer that question. Next, they discuss the running game in more detail and how that changes the picture for the quarterback before transitioning into a discussion about offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich. PicKell explains what he sees on film when he watches Yurcich's offense and how it helps the quarterback from a schematic point. Next, they discuss Manny Diaz and his defense. But first, PicKell discusses Diaz's motivations as a former head coach coming to Happy Valley after being fired at Miami. How will that motivate him? They discuss that and then which players stand out to PicKell on defense. He points to cornerback Joey Porter Jr. as a player who can get national attention if he plays up to his potential in 2022. Lastly, they discuss the Big Ten and Penn State's chief competition. T-Frank asks where the Nittany Lions sit in the pecking order and how Ohio State and Michigan compare to what they were last season. Then, PicKell gives his early favorites to make the college football playoff. He and host Thomas Frank Carr discuss Penn State's top training camp battles, the linebacker depth chart, and players standing out in camp. Next, T-Frank and Bauer discuss what James Franklin's comments about freshman linebacker Keon Wylie mean for fellow freshman Abdul Carter. They wrap up their discussion about the position with how positive Penn State feels about the position. Next, they discuss Franklin's comments about cornerback Johnny Dixon. The lead man for the Lions said that Dixon was coming on strong and even pushing for starting reps. While that says one thing about Dixon, what does that say about the players ahead of him? Finally, T-Frank and Bauer discuss the nuances around Penn State's cornerback spot opposite Joey Porter Jr. Next, they tackle the offensive line. Bauer spoke to offensive line coach Phil Trautwein about the competition between Sal Wormley and transfer Hunter Nourzad. Ep 318BWI Daily Two-A-Days: Penn State Cornerback season preview

To prepare Penn State football fans for the 2022 season, the BWI Daily edition pulls two-a-days to preview each positional group. Today, they conclude their look at the team by focusing the spotlight on the cornerbacks. Then, host Thomas Frank Carr and senior editor Nate Bauer break down the position and preview which players will make an impact for penn State this fall. They start with a look at the three starters. Veteran cornerbacks Joey Porter Jr and Daequan Hardy pair with sophomore Kalen King to form one of the most talented groups in recent memory for Penn State. They discuss the heights this group can achieve before T-Frank asks if we’ve seen enough from King to assure he’ll take a second-year leap. He also wants to know if the group is good enough to carry the defense if they have to. With questions at other positions up front, the secondary may be on an island at times this fall. Next, Bauer and T-Frank discuss the depth players behind King and Porter on the perimeter of the defense. Johnny Dixon and Marquis Wilson provide veteran depth, which T-Frank is high on. Was Wilson’s year away from cornerback, when he played receiver, detrimental to his development? Bauer and T-Frank debate that before moving on to the X-Factor for the group. Before wrapping up the show by looking at the freshmen on the roster, T-Frank and Nate give their stock up/stock down predictions. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 317BWI Daily: Previewing Penn State's offensive targets in the recruiting class of 2024

Recruiting is never over in any class until it’s signed, but things have slowed down for Penn State football’s class of 2023. August is typically a slow month for the current recruiting cycle, so today, the BWI Daily Edition looks ahead to 2024. Host Thomas Frank Carr and recruiting insider Ryan Snyder go through the top names to know on offense that Penn State is interested in and vice versa. For Penn State fans that follow the show, some names are reviewed, but some are emerging heading into the fall. T-Frank and Snyder start at quarterback for 2024. However, unlike the 2023 cycle, Penn State has some common interest with several top quarterbacks in the country. Jayden Bradford tops the list, but Snyder has six other names that Penn State fans should keep an eye on. Athlete Quinton Martin isn’t just the most essential running back on the list; he’s the most important recruit in the class. Snyder considers him even more valuable than that. Outside of the five-star talent, BWI’s recruiting insider identifies several other players and highlights St. Thomas Aquinas runner Jordan Lyle as a name to know. The receiver group is a deep and talented list, as it usually is. But which players represent must-gets? Several to choose from, but Snyder stays in-state and highlights four-star Tyseer Denmark and Rico Scott. Scott of Bishop McDevitt has major offers, including Texas A&M and Alabama. Denmark also draws national interest from teams like Alabama, Oregon, and Georgia. Can Penn State keep the Roman Catholic player in Pennsylvania? Grabbing one top recruit from PA is critically important, according to T-Frank. He explains why. Moving on from the receivers, there’s one primary name to know at tight end. Rochester, MI, native Brady Prieskorn has separated himself from the group in this cycle, and Snyder explains who else is in the picture. The offensive line, particularly tackle, is a sore spot for Penn State recruiting. Snyder and T-Frank discuss the compiled list of names determining offensive line coach Phil Trautwein’s success in this cycle. Malvern Prep’s Peter Jones tops the list, and Snyder has some insight about his game to lead off the conversation. In addition, Deontae Armstrong of Ohio recently camped at Penn State and impressed T-Frank, who discussed what he saw from the prospect at Penn State’s final summer camp last week. Finally, Snyder and T-Frank arrive at the final position, the interior of the offensive line. Four-star lineman Cooper Cousins stands as the lone committed player in the class. Alongside him, Liam Andrews commands an essential spot in Penn State’s recruiting efforts this cycle. Snyder compares him to an offensive line commit in the class of 2023, thanks to his importance. T-Frank wraps the show by asking Snyder to assess the depth of the region and how optimistic Penn State fans should be about this class. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 316BWI Daily Two-A-Days: Penn State safety preview

The Penn State football safety room might be the deepest on the team. But with the loss of second-round pick Jaquan Brisker, will Penn State's high-end play reach the same heights it did a year ago? BWI Two-A-Days are back to preview the Penn State safety position for 2022.Today, host Thomas Frank Carr and senior editor Nate Bauer break down the players, scheme, and position battles in the middle of the Penn State secondary. One of the first questions of the group is if they can gather as many turnovers as they did a year ago. Senior safety Ji'Ayir Brown led the nation with six interceptions a year ago. Bauer doesn't think that the former Lackawanna transfer will reach that goal but does have a strong feeling about the group. After T-Frank introduces the four players at the position, including Brown, Zakee Wheatley, Jaylen Reed, and Keaton Ellis, he asks Bauer why Ellis is overlooked in this group. Next, they discuss Ellis' role and position on the team before moving on to how Penn State can best use all four players.Next, the duo discusses the newcomers to the group. Freshmen Mehki Flowers and KJ Winston join Lackawanna transfer Tyrece Mills in the crowded secondary. Can one or more players find a role behind Jonathan Sutherland at the Striker? Bauer and T-Frank dip into the new position for the Nittany Lions.Lastly, they determine an X-Factor for the group and give a stock up or stock down rating for the unit.JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annualSUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmationBookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters: https://bluewhiteonline.comDownload our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 315BWI Daily: What is Penn State's football identity? Mailbag show with Greg Pickel

Each week the BWI Daily Edition opens up the mailbag to answer questions of Blue White Illustrated's staff. Today host Thomas Frank Carr and reporter Greg Pickel tackle questions about Manny Diaz's scheme, Penn State football's identity, and more. One of the questions they take to start the show deals with the quarterback situation. Penn State struggled last year to get two players at the position ready and faced the consequences of that in the team's loss to Iowa. How do they fix that this year? Penn State has three young quarterbacks in Drew Allar, Beau Pribula, and Christian Veilleux, representing a positive future for the program. T-Frank and Greg take different approaches to the question and how Penn State can approach the situation on the field and in practice. Another BWI message board member wants Pickel and T-Frank to pick a player they think will be most improved from last season. The writer picks tackle Caedan Wallace and Coziah Izzard as their offensive and defensive nominees. To make things interesting, the duo selects different players, despite agreeing with the pick of Wallace. What are reasonable expectations for Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen? That's what another message board member wants to know. Is the hype too much? Or can the duo be the starters in the season's first week? Pickel and T-Frank agree that they'll have a role but don't think either will unseat starter Keyvone Lee right away. Though, Pickel is high on their collective impact. They field other questions dealing with everything from Penn State's identity to Manny Diaz's scheme and even get a question about major league baseball. Ep 314BWI Daily Two-A-Days: Penn State linebacker season preview

The 2022 Penn State football season is fast approaching, so Blue White Illustrated is getting you ready with BWI Two-A-Days. Each day host Thomas Frank Carr and senior editor Nate Bauer discuss a position group and give a season preview for fans. Today they focus on the linebackers. The linebacker group might be the most interesting positional breakdown of any heading into the fall. On the one hand, the team has linebacker Curtis Jacobs leading the defense. But, on the other hand, Tyler Elsdon and Kobe King are fighting during camp to decide which inexperienced player will get his first start at middle linebacker. Throw in the positional ambiguity of the third linebacker spot, and the Nittany Lion fans have a wide variety of topics to discuss with the group. T-Frank starts with the "starters" for this group, looking at Jacobs, King, and Elsdon. To start the show, T-Frank and Bauer discuss how vital that battle is in the middle of the defense. Next, T-Frank wants to know why Jacobs isn't getting the same hype as some of his predecessors despite producing more at similar points in his career than they did. Next, the duo discusses Jonathan Sutherland's role in the defense and the nature of Manny Diaz's defense. There's still confusion about which players are playing behind Sutherland or can potentially see snaps at that linebacker spot. T-Frank assumes that only safety-type players are playing at the new "Striker" position, but he asks Bauer if he's missing something. After discussing that position, they shift their focus to the young players at the position behind the starters. T-Franks comments on the staff's excitement in freshman Abdul Carter and wonders out loud about another player on the roster. Will Carter pass more experienced players on his way to a role in the defense? Bauer points out a critical fact that might shift the conversation. Lastly, they wrap up the show with their X-Factors and indicate which way they think the stock is heading for the Penn State linebackers. Ep 313BWI Daily: Previewing Penn State Media Day

Penn State football is currently in the first week of training camp and will cap it off with media day on Saturday. To prepare you for what you will learn and what ot expect, reporter Greg Pickel joins host Thomas Frank Carr on the BWI DailY Edition to preview the event. The duo will go through the top five questions that Pickel wants to have answers for from head coach James Franklin, along with other news and notes we might learn on Saturday. They start with the top five questions that Pickel would ask James Franklin if he could have a one-on-one interview instead of a press conference. Pickel begins his line of questions with the safety battle beside returning starter Tig Brown. Several names are vying for the opportunity to play the field safety position in Penn State's defense but will it be Keaton Ellis, Zakee Wheatley, or Jaylen Reed? Next, T-Frank throws a fourth mystery name into the competition and asks for Pickel's thoughts. The next question on Pickel's mind centers around incoming transfer Chop Robinson at defensive end. Pickel's question sparks a conversation that T-Frank wants to have about the defensive end group. So he asks Pickel about not just Robinson but where he thinks that position will land during the 2022 season.Question three (in ascending order) that Pickel would ask Franklin deals with Penn State's top camp battle. How is the competition shaping up between Tyler Elsdon and Kobe King? The center of the defense won't be stabilized until one of those players takes command of the position, so finding out which player is ahead after the first week is essential. The second question on Pickel's mind deals with the health of PJ Mustipher. The senior defensive tackle was present and participating during the opening portion of Penn State's practice on Monday, which is a good sign. But how much and what type of participation does Mustipher have during team periods? The senior defensive tackle's health will go a long way to determining the defensive line's success. Finally, the top question that Pickel would ask Franklin deals with the opposing units in football. Is the offense ahead of the defense or vice versa? While this is a common question for the media to ask during camp, Pickel has a specific reason he wants to know this time of year. They also discuss the offensive line situation and the training camp timeline. Finally, Pickel gives T-Frank an update on Penn State wrestling. Ep 312BWI Daily Two-A-Days: Previewing Penn State's defensive line

Penn State football is counting on several familiar faces returning from injury to power its defensive line for the 2022 season. But, with the addition of some exciting new faces, will this group hit the heights of their potential? Or will there be too many 'ifs' for this group to succeed? The BWI Daily edition tackles the Penn State defensive line in today's season preview. Host Thomas Frank Carr and senior editor Nate Baur start at the top with Penn State's need to replace second-round pick Arnold Ebiketie's production from last season. Additionally, senior defensive tackle PJ Mustipher is returning from injury. His timeline back to full strength is a key part of the equation. They discuss how likely it is that Mustipher and defensive end Adisa Isaac will play well this fall. Next, T-Frank introduces viewers to the starting defensive line, with even more questions outside of Isaac and Mustipher. Nick Tarburton returns to his role from last season, while Hakeem Beamon returns from a non-injury absence in 2021. Next, T-Frank introduces the rest of the depth players and the new faces to the defensive line this fall. He asks Bauer how long it will take for Penn State's starting defensive line to change from what it is now. Through that conversation, Bauer and T-Frank bring attention to Penn State's depth players, such as Coziah Izzard and Dvon Ellies. Those to players struggled to fill in for Mustipher last season. Finally, the duo considers if things can lead to a more positive outcome this fall. Finally, they dive into the new players for Penn State. Five-star defensive end Dani Dennis-Sutton, transfer Chop Robinson, and freshman defensive tackle Zane Durant have impressed this offseason in one form or fashion. T-Frank and Bauer discuss the possibility of all of them playing meaningful roles in the fall. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 311Recruiting Show: Update on Penn State's recruitment of QB Jaxon Smolik

Penn State football recruiting finished July on a down note heading into the final month before the start of the 2022 football season. The BWI Daily recruiting show is back to look back at the news about Evan Link and Stanton Ramil and to look ahead at what's next for the class of 2023. Host Greg Pickel starts with the news from Monday, which hits hard for Penn State fans. First, four-star tackle Evan Link chose Michigan in a surprise upset during his recruitment. The Gonzaga left tackle took an official visit to Penn State during June and then went silent for the rest of the month. Experts expected him to choose between Stanford and the Nittany Lions, but he ultimately ended up a Wolverine. So how did all of that go down? Recruiting insider Ryan Snyder does his best to unpack the situation from the very quiet Link. More importantly, where does Penn State go from here? Fellow offensive tackle Stanton Ramil also chose a different school, selecting Michigan State over the Nittany Lions. So with the top players off the board, Penn State once again misses on an elite-level tackle prospect. Pickel and Snyder discuss that impact and what it will take for the Nittany Lions to recover. Next, they review the Lasch Bash, Penn State's last big recruiting event of the year before game visits in the fall. They give a rundown of the names in attendance but also which high-level players didn't show up for the weekend. Snyder and Pickel discuss what caused four-star defensive end, Jalen Thompson, not to attend the event this past weekend. Which players are left that could choose Penn State in August? Snyder points to Kaveion Keys, Carmelo Taylor, and Thompson as three players who will make a decision this month. Finally, Snyder and Pickel discuss Penn State's quarterback situation in 2023. The team hosted three-star passer Jaxon Smolik on Friday for their final camp of the summer. How did he do? Snyder gives his intel on how Penn State felt about his performance and whether or not he's the lead candidate to replace Marcus Stokes, who flipped to Florida at the beginning of the month. Ep 310BWI Daily Two-A-Days: Previewing Penn State's tight ends

Penn State's tight end room received high praise before the 2021 season. Head coach James Franklin called them the deepest and most talented group he's coached at that position in his career. Now, the same faces return in the same roles for the fall.Penn State head coach James Franklin and his offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich haven't backed off from their optimism this year, so what will change? Host Thomas Frank Carr and senior editor Nate Bauer will try to answer as they preview the tight end position for the 2022 football season. They start with a review of last season and introduce the trio of Brenton Strange, Theo Johnson, and Tyler Warren. Next, they discuss the facts behind the tight end group's lack of production last season. Then, T-Frank cites some important receiving metrics they fell short in, and Nate gives context to them. They also discuss factors outside the position's control. For example, they dive into how the quarterback's willingness to throw the ball over the middle of the field and which receivers took important targets away from the group. They discuss which X-factor will change the course of the season for Strange, Johnson, and Warren before looking at the young players. Ep 309BWI Daily Two-A-Days: Previewing Penn State's running backs

Penn State's running back production wasn't good enough last season. No matter how you slice it, qualify it or try to explain it, that's the bottom line. Heading into the 2022 season, the open question of improvement rests on the shoulders of two true freshmen. It's also the question that host Thomas Frank Carr and senior editor Nate Bauer will try to answer on the BWI Daily Edition. Today, they preview the running backs. Bauer and T-Frank start with a review of the situation to set the scene for the upcoming season. With Keyvone Lee as the presumed starter, how much room is there for improvement? The conversation about the running back rotation can't go very far without bringing up freshman running back Nick Singleton. The five-star Governor Mifflin running back in the Class of 2022 has impressed coaches and teammates since enrolling early in January. The proposition for Singleton is to provide explosive runs and provide the spark that Penn State lacked last season. However, the expectations at this point might be that he takes over the job eventually. Can Lee, Devyn Ford, Caziah Holmes, or fellow freshman Kaytron Allen carve a role for themselves? Bauer and T-Frank have different thoughts about the realistic expectations for the first-year back heading into the fall. Finally, they declare if the running back room's stock is up or down heading into fall camp. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Each week the BWI Daily Edition takes your questions and answers them on air. Host Thomas Frank Carr and senior Editor Nate Bauer team up to discuss the thoughts and opinions of Blue White Illustrated subscribers and Penn State fans. Today they’ll tackle Big Ten Media Day, the return of PJ Mustipher, and more. T-Frank and Bauer start with a discussion about the Penn State defensive line. A BWI Message board member wants to know the projected two-deep at the defensive line for the fall. Does the news that Mustipher is cleared for camp change their opinion? The duo discusses the pros and cons of returning from an ACL injury, how players perform when they do and what fans should expect from the senior defensive tackle early in the year. Next, they take a question regarding the 2022 Big Ten Media Days and Penn State’s performance. Was Penn State successful in weathering the storm of controversy brought earlier in the week? Did head coach James Franklin and his players achieve their goals? T-Frank found himself disappointed in the responses, but Bauer has some different context to bring to the show. They answer questions regarding the defensive end position, and the competition at guard between Sal Wormley and Hunter Nourzad, among others. Finally, the show ends by picking the freshmen in the Class of 2022 that will become fan favorites. Today The BWI Daily Edition focuses on the wide receivers. Can this group actually improve while losing first-round draft pick Jahan Dotson? Host Thomas Frank Carr and senior editor Nate Bauer discuss which receivers are tasked with that job. Bauer and T-Frank start by setting the scene for the 2022 receiving room. Who will replace Dotson and his 137 targets? Parker Washington returns for his third season in Happy Valley, flanked by fellow 2020 receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith. Added to the mix is Western Kentucky transfer, Mitchell Tinsley. Is that trio enough to replace one of the best pure receivers in program history? The question might be something different, which Bauer and T-Frank discuss. Next, they introduce the rest of the room and the main players that the pair expect to compete with the top trio for playing time. Can Malick Meiga or Harrison Wallace push Lambert-Smith for playing time? Or will someone else lose snaps to an up-and-coming player? After that, T-Frank and Bauer discuss how the perception of the room could be different than the results because of the shadow Dotson left. Additionally, T-Frank brings up the other offensive pieces and their role in receiver production. Quarterback Sean Clifford and the running game will also influence how efficient and effective the group can be. Finally, they discuss the group's freshmen, X-factors, and which way the stock for the receiver position heading into the season. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 304BWI Daily Two-A-Days: Previewing Penn State's offensive line

The BWI Daily Edition is preparing you for the 2022 Penn State football season by previewing the Penn State football team position by position. Today, they continue their look at the Nittany Lion's offense by examining the most polarizing group on the Penn State roster; the offensive line. Host Thomas Frank Carr and senior editor Nate Bauer discuss the starters, key reserves, and freshmen on the team that will shape the fate of this group in the fall. They start by discussing Penn State center Juice Scruggs. Does Penn State need a great center to have the best version of its offensive line? That's the theory Bauer presents to T-Frank about senior Juice Scruggs. T-Frank doesn't have a direct rebuttal for that thought but doesn't agree. The two discuss what makes a good offensive line or player before diving into the group. From there, T-Frank introduces the presumed starting lineup of left tackle Olu Fashanu, left guard Landon Tengwall, center Juice Scruggs, right guard Hunter Nourzad, and right tackle Caedan Wallace. Three of the five starters from this year differ from the previous year. So, does that mean the stock is up because the problems from last year are no longer starting, or is the stock down becuase once again, Penn State has massive turnover and youth on the line? Bauer and T-Frank debate the merits of each point. They also discuss the depth issues at tackle, which players can contribute beyond the starting five, before wrapping up by looking at the first-year players. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
