BWI Daily: Penn State is back

Penn State's sound defeat of Auburn last Saturday sent a shockwave of activity through the college football ecosystem. Plenty of analysts picked Penn State to win, but no one expected them to dominate the Tigers the way they did. After studying the team through three weeks of the season and listening to the chatter this week, the host of the BWI Daily Edition, Thomas Frank Carr, has a definitive answer as to what that game meant for the Nittany Lions. Penn State is back But what does that mean? Is Penn State a national contender now that just put the Big Ten and the rest of the world on notice? Not so fast, T-Frank says. He has a different meaning for how and why the Nittany Lions are "back." Next, he explains why the freshman class of 2022 is pivotal to keeping Penn State back. First, he describes the two distinct waves of the class and how the first wave of first-year Nittany Lions have already made their presence felt in the first three games. While all eyes are on Nick Singleton, he highlights the future of linebacker Abdul Carter and the path to the highest level of success for Carter in the next month. The second wave of freshmen, which is larger than the first, will help define Penn State's ceiling as a team. While Dani Denni-Sutton and Zane Durant are the high-profile names of the group, T-Frank focuses first on Omari Evans. The speedy wide receiver nearly made the first wave of players but has been an inconsistent contributor on offense. So the fact that he's on the list surprises T-Frank, and he thinks it says something about the precarious nature of the receiver room this fall. Lastly, he discusses Allar and his development since arriving in Happy Valley in January. How good has he been, and how far ahead of schedule is the 6-5 freshman? T-Frank gives his thoughts.
