Ep 502Breaking News: Penn State names Deion Barnes as defensive line coach
News broke last night that Penn State hired it's next defensive line coach. Former Nittany Lion defensive end and current analyst Deion Barnes will be the team's next coach. He spent the last three seasons as a graduate assistant under former d-line coach John Scott Jr and moved into an analyst role this offseason after his time as a GA was up. Head coach James Franklin issued a statement yesterday about this hire, "We are excited to have Deion represent his alma mater as our defensive line coach," said Franklin. "I have really been impressed watching him grow as a coach and leader these last three seasons. Deion's passion for Penn State and the defensive line room has been a differentiator. It is clear to me that he wears his pride for this University through his work. The respect the players and staff have for Deion showed every day. I look forward to watching him continue to develop and inspire our defensive linemen. He was a great addition to our staff in 2020 and I look forward to watching him thrive in this new role."Get Blue White Illustrated's perspective with our breaking news recap. Ep 499BWI Daily: Penn State Spring practice preview
The BWI Daily Edition prepares you for spring football with a preview of the next week hosted by Nate Bauer and Sean Fitz. Today they’ll discuss the camp battles that they find interesting, give an update on the defensive line coach search, and discuss what they expect to hear from head coach James Franklin. Check out the full show tonight at 7 pm on YouTube. If you haven’t yet, subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable notifications. No news yet on a Penn State defensive line coachPenn State insider Sean Fitz has nothing solid yet on who head coach James Franklin will hire as his next defensive line coach. In fact, he says that no one outside of Franklin knows anything. However, he does think there’s a timeline for when news could come out.“Every time, it’s getting tighter, and it’s getting even worse to cover. But I think they’ll have something soon. Of course, with spring practice starting to or Tuesday, you’ve got that, I guess, an unofficial barrier that you have to get something in place before that, not necessarily have to do it, but it seems like they want to get something done. So a Friday news dump would not surprise me for the defensive line position,” he said. The Nittany Lions still have defensive line assistant and analyst Deion Barnes on staff, so the transition, whenever it happens, can be smooth. Barnes remains a candidate to get the job as well. Next, Bauer and Fitz preview what Franklin will address in his Tuesday press conference to start spring practice. Bauer knows the rhythm of how these press conferences go.“I think he’s going to talk about the newcomers. I mean, is there anything that you’re specifically looking for from that press conference on Tuesday that sort of sets the stage of? Because it happens every year? Right. There’s always a theme. I think he’s going to talk about the newcomers,” Bauer comments. Penn State’s early enrollees usually take center stage as the media are curious about the players they don’t know yet. However, there’s also another aspect of this that Fitz touches on during the conversation. Check out the show for more. A real quarterback battle? Finally, Bauer and Fitz tackle a tricky subject. Is there an actual, honest quarterback battle brewing for spring practice? Or will freshman backup and former five-star prospect Drew Allar be the undisputed starter over fellow Class of 2022 quarterback Beau Pribula?“I guess this is kind of the natural trajectory of this conversation, right? What are we doing with quarterback? How are we going to frame this? Because in the minds of literally everyone, I don’t know anyone outside of the internal coach-speak who is framing this as a battle,” Bauer says. It’s a problem Fitz understands keenly when discussing the topic with source.“It’s so funny because, when you talk to people in the program, you have to sort of filter out what’s going on in terms of Beau because they are so excited about this kid.In another year, if Drew’s not here, he’s a starter. That’s kind of where they feel about this, and you have to balance out what that means in relation to Drew.”Penn State’s spring practice media day starts on Tuesday. Check out Blue White Illustrated on YouTube to get James Franklin’s comments to kick off spring football. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 497BWI Live: Penn State spring roster update, combine recap
With spring football just around the corner, the BWI Daily Edition is gearing up by checking out the updated roster released after winter conditioning. Host Thomas Frank Carr and reporter Greg Pickel will discuss the group's most interesting weight gains and losses and single out any players that grabbed their attention. They'll also discuss the recent NFL Combine and which players had a good day or a bad day, depending on their performance in testing metrics. Lastly, Pickel will recap the Big Ten wrestling championships and Penn State's dominant run to another conference title. He'll also preview how the weekend set the team up for the NCAA tournament. As always, you get a final say on what T-Frank and Pickel talk about! Join the show at 7 pm to discuss what's on your mind by joining the live chat. Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable notifications, so you don't miss any live shows or breaking news. Penn State roster UdpateOne of the larger swings on the Penn State roster came at the offensive line, where several players made big jumps in overall weight. Overall the offensive line gained 255 pounds or just over 12 pounds per player. So Does that mean the team is intentionally getting bigger, like head coach James Franklin wondered out loud after the team's loss to Michigan? Or is it a normal course of growth for this time of year? T-Frank and Pickel will discuss that idea on the show and give their thoughts on how the team progressed this offseason. Another position group that T-Frank wants to discuss is linebacker. Several Penn State stars made big jumps at that position too. What does Abdul Carter's weight gain mean for his position? The same can be said about Curtis Jacobs, who packed on some pounds during winter conditioning. Combine testing results in poor overall showingNext, T-Frank will give his thoughts about the standout Penn State performers from the 2023 NFL Combine. He'll argue why Brenton Strange and Juice Scruggs stood out at crowded positions while Ji'Ayir Brown failed to reach several benchmarks. Penn State Wrestling takes home the championshipThe Penn State wrestling team's dominance continues this year, with a regular season title and now a Big Ten Tournament title. What's more, the group sent nine contestants to the NCAA championships with their efforts this past weekend. As Pickel previously reported, the team also crowned four champions.Super senior Roman Bravo-Young and senior Aaron Brooks are now three-time Big Ten champs. 'RBY' beat Minnesota's Aaron Nagao in the 133-pound finals to cap off a perfect tournament. At 184 pounds, Brooks crushed Kaleb Romero of Ohio State 11-2 in the finals. Junior Carter Starocci is a two-time Big Ten champ at 174 pounds. He beat Nebraska's Mikey Labriola 6-2 in the finals after a 2-0 effort led him there. Finally, freshman phenom Levi Haines won his first conference crown by beating top-seeded Peyton Robb 3-1 in a thrilling sudden victory outcome.Read the rest of his article by clicking here. Ep 490Hoops Show: Penn State Hoops falls silent in second half against Rutgers | Season on the brink
Penn State basketball raced out to a 19-point lead against Rutgers on Sunday night in a pivotal game to keep its NCAA tournament hopes alive. Despite that, the team suffered an epic collapse, failing to register a field goal in the game's final nine minutes. That epic power outage led to a 59-56 loss at home in front of a White Out crowd at the Bryce Jordan Center. Now, with two games left on the schedule, the season is on the brink for the Nittany Lions, who face must-win games for the rest of the regular season and beyond. Today on the BWI Penn State Hoops show, basketball insider Nate Bauer and host Thomas Frank Carr discuss the game and how Penn State can quickly pick up the pieces after the loss. They'll be live at noon on YouTube to take your thoughts and feelings about the team's latest loss and the road ahead. While T-Frank will focus on the game's final nine minutes, Bauer wants to point to the seeds sewn in the first half that ultimately became the issue late. They'll discuss the undercurrent of Penn State's big lead, a strong performance by Cam Wynter, and the shooting struggles for the Nittany Lions...at home? For his part, Penn State head coach Micah Shrewsberry thinks that his team stopped doing the little things with such a large lead, and it became a ball game thanks to a lack of focus."We came out and started the half great. But then we let our foot off the gas; we let go of the rope, and we didn't do the things that got us that lead. Little plays that don't seem that they were big, but we give them a bucket, and then they get a free throw rebound. We gave them more chances," he said after the game. "Maybe you foul, and they shoot a free throw and miss it, and that helps close the door. We left the door open too many times. Even when we weren't scoring the basketball, we couldn't come up with timely stops; they would get long offensive rebounds. They hit every timely basket that they needed to make, and we missed a lot of them. But it was because of the things that we did early in the game."Check out the show at noon to hear more from the head coach who blamed himself for the loss in the postgame press conference. You'll hear comments from Sunday night, and his availability on Monday to help narrate the show. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 486BWI Daily: Discussion about Penn State's plan to renovate Beaver Stadium
Penn State released a statement last Friday that the university has decided on the future of Beaver Stadium. The program intends to renovate the historic stadium instead of building a new facility on a new footprint. That’s big news, right?Today, the BWI Daily Edition digs into the “if” “and” and “buts” of the statement to parse through the words and explain to fans what the real news was last Friday. Then, host Thomas Frank Carr and senior editor Nate Bauer discuss what the program can do, and what they must do in order to renovate Beaver Stadium and launch Penn State fans into the future of college football. Penn State isn’t renovating anythingSo instead of building new, the program wants to renovate the existing structure. But that doesn’t mean what you think it means; according to Bauer, “A renovation is not a renovation, okay? In this context of what Beaver Stadium is, they will tear down what exists in phases so that they can continue to play football in Beaver Stadium while handling it piece by piece, by piece, by piece by piece.”Next, he and T-Frank discuss what that will do to seat capacity and the badge of honor that Penn State fans have about the 107,000-seat capacity of the stadium. They also discuss financing and how the athletic department and the university must tackle a project that will likely cost more than half a billion dollars. Bauer doesn’t see this coming off without someone getting upset about where the money comes from.“What is the appetite going to be if this major project, Beaver Stadium project, demands ticket increases? Right. And not just like five, ten bucks a pop, but doubles ticket costs, doubles seat, licensing costs. What will the appetite be for that ten years from now? I have no idea. I just it’s very fascinating to me for Penn State to be in this position right now because this is all happening currently.”So what is the landing position, then? What are you aiming for if you’re at Penn State and you imagine a new stadium? The trend nationally is to build smaller stadiums and charge a higher entry price. Is that in the DNA of the program?“Okay, So I think that there is a middle ground. Look, you’re not going to sell 100,000 seats at Beaver Stadium to just the upper class. It’s not going to happen. But you cannot build an experience that is ultra-elite and only provides a premium experience. It’s just you cannot have that type of capacity. And I don’t think that that’s what they want.” Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

Ep 480BWI Daily: Where Penn State can improve for 2023

But every team is assessing its strengths and weaknesses this time of year.February is a recruiting dead period and is a good time to do a deep dive into what parts of the offense and defense worked last season and which parts didn’t. Ep 479Hoops Podcast: Penn State slams Illinois, keeps tournament hopes alive
Penn State basketball came into its game against Illinois at the Bryce Jordan Center with both an opportunity and a need. They needed to stop a four-game losing streak if they wanted any hope of making the NCAA Tournament. Illinois also represented the opportunity to gain a quad-one win over a quality team to boost its resume. They delivered in a big way, winning 93-81. Today on the Blue White Illustrated Penn State Hoops Show, host Thomas Frank Carr and reporter Nate Bauer discuss Jalen Pickett's historic night and how the team around him helped get a decisive win. As always, check out the show on YouTube and subscribe to Blue White Illustrated, so you don't miss the Hoops Show. If you're a fan of the BWI Daily, submit a five-star review, and you can get your question answered on the weekly mailbag show. Penn State loosens up and goes offPenn State head coach Micah Shrewsberry, discussed how he felt he'd led his team down the wrong path, making them too tight to perform well over the last several weeks. "When we came back Sunday after that game, you can see like an air of confidence. We had a good day of practice. And we came back yesterday and we had another good day of practice. And then when I walked down for shoot around today and then throughout our shoot around, our spirit was great. Spirit was great. They weren't broken. They were together. They were ready to fight. They were ready to fight together. And I think that's the biggest thing is they didn't let anything affect them. That's a sign of maturity. That's a sign of a group that's together. I'm proud of those guys. They're winning despite their coach," Shrewsberry said.Bauer and T-Frank discuss how that situation is a balancing act that will continue this season. But it helps when a player goes for 40 points in a game. Jalen Pickett had a historic night on Tuesday, becoming the first player to reach 40 points in over 60 years. "That's special. Sometimes when you're going through it, you just need somebody special to have a special performance. I think that's what he did. But not to downplay what some of the other guys did. Maybe they didn't score as much, maybe they didn't rebound as much, but I thought their effort and some of the contributions we got from everybody was special," Shrewsberry said after the gam. Finally, T-Frank and Bauer will discuss the team's defensive performance, which still wasn't steller in the win. Previously, Penn State has struggled to defend when they don't shoot well. Was there any improvement in that last night? "I feel like steps were made in spurts. When our offense is going, we really play good defense. We want to get more stops and get on offense. But when teams are scoring, we get maybe a little bit overwhelmed. We want to play a perfect possession every time. So I think our mental needs to be a little bit stronger for us to keep going. But we got time to fix that," Pickett said after the game. Check out the full show to hear more about the team's upcoming schedule and how Penn State still has a chance to make an NCAA Tournament run in the remaining regular season games. Everybody around me, I appreciate them. They got me where I wanted to be, so I just need to finish out and get there. But soon, the conversation turns to the injury. What was going through Montgomery's mind when it happened? Montgomery didn't hold back about how he felt after the injury. "I just felt empty when I found out that I tore my ACL because I wouldn't expect that to happen to me, and it can happen to anyone. So I was just so heartbroken from it. You know, I just looked passed it. I can't look back. I got my mental right first and foremost, and then so now I'm working on my physical. So you know, I took it as it is and just went forward," he saidPenn State added a running back to his class after the injury. Montgomery also addressed the situation at running back in the Class of 2023. Does he feel uncomfortable that the team added another running back after his injury? Ep 473Hoops Show: Penn State goes off-script for the first time with loss to Nebraska
Penn State basketball's fight for an NCAA tournament berth under second-year head coach Micah Shrewsberry took a turn for the worse on Sunday when the team lost an ugly 72-63 game on the road at Nebraska. The team is now 1-6 on the road, which has become a significant storyline for the season. But it's not the only one. Today on the BWI Penn State Hoops Show, Nate Bauer and Thomas Frank Carr discuss the loss and the subsequent comments from Monday's press conference. Bauer takes viewers through head coach Micah Shrewsberry's comments from the event while T-Frank provides his observations. Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable notifications so you don't miss the Hoops Show when it airs each week. Bauer and T-Frank start with the most obvious problem from Sunday, Penn State's defense. The Nittany Lions were sloppy and uncoordinated on the road despite playing a beatable Nebraska team. While their record isn't stellar, Bauer points to something Shrewsberry said the last time the Nittany Lions played the Cornhuskers as a potential danger zone. Unfortunately, that aspect of Nebraska's game came true on Sunday and eventually sunk the Shrewsberry's team. So why was defense such a problem on a team of veteran players? Bauer chronicles the decline of Penn State's defense since the start of the new year. The issues, according to Shrewsberry, are in the team's offensive struggles. Offensive scoring on the road is also officially a "thing" for the Nittany Lions. The problem isn't just shooter Andrew Funk going cold in some games; Sherwsberry points to a bigger problem with the offense beyond the top three scorers. This conversation leads to another about who is stepping up and who isn't on the team. Bauer and T-Frank read between the lines of Shrewsberry's words. Finally, they preview the upcoming game against Wisconsin. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 469BWI Daily: Penn State recruiting class comparison between 2022 and 2023
After National Signing Day's fireworks on Wednesday, the 2023 recruiting class is officially in the books. Today, Nate Bauer and Sean Fitz discuss the characteristics of the class and compare it to the top-five group from 2022. They'll also discuss the day's current events, including Mitchell Tinsley's performance during the all-star bowl circuit leading up to the NFL Draft and the impact of losing Juice Scruggs from the offensive line. Subscribe to the Blue White Illustrated Daily Edition on YouTube and enable notifications, so you never miss an episode. Before diving into today's football discussion, Fitz and Bauer discuss Penn State basketball's loss to Purdue on the road Wednesday night. The Nittany Lions shot poorly, but the Boilermakers poured on the heat early from deep and never looked back. Bauer discusses what he saw from the game and why Purdue had so much success from three. Next, they discuss the Shrine Bowl, which takes place Thursday night. Scruggs and Tinsley are standouts from the week of practice, so the duo discusses their trajectory this draft season. Next, Fitz wants to highlight what Scruggs meant to the team last season. Finally, they wrap up the class of 2023. Fitz gives his thoughts on the class and where its strengths lie. Maybe just as important, he looks at the areas that this group needs to improve. Then, he spins that forward to the Class of 2024 and points to the position groups Penn State needs to nail in this upcoming cycle to avoid a letdown at those positions. Fitz and Bauer end the show with a lightning round, stacking the Class of 2022 and 2023 to compare the strengths of each group. They'll go position by position, and Fitz will pick a winner between the classes according to which group is stronger. Positions like quarterback and running back are apparent. But what about linebacker or safety? The Nittany Lions were strong in both cycles, so which group has the edge? Check out the show to find out. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 468BWI Daily: Penn State football mailbag and wrestling preview with Greg Pickel
On the traditional National Signing Day, Penn State had an eventful day, securing four-star offensive lineman Chimney Onoh out of Maryland. This week, we've covered that extensively at Blue White Illustrated and on the YouTube channel. So instead, the BWI Daily focuses on what you want to discuss. Host Thomas Frank Carr and reporter Greg Pickel answer questions from fans of the show and discuss Penn State Wrestling's upcoming road dual meets against Ohio State and Indiana this weekend. If you'd like to get your question on the weekly mailbag show, submit a five-star review with your question in the comments section on Apple Podcasts. Or, you can join Blue White Illustrated and drop your question on the submission thread inside the Lion's Den. After giving Pickel a chance to share his quick thoughts on Onoh, T-Frank opens up the mailbag to see what's in the mind of Penn State fans. The first question this week deals with presumed starting quarterback Drew Allar. Will the staff focus on building up his running skills to operate the offense next season? Next, t-Frank and Pickel give their thoughts on how much Allar's legs will factor into the offense next season. Similarly, a viewer wants to know what week of the season the new starting quarterback needs to be at full speed with the offense. Can he be ready out of the box against West Virginia? Pickel and T-Frank discuss the early Penn State schedule and the team's propensity for starting the season slow on offense. However, T-Frank points out a fact about both young quarterbacks that should help them play above their second-year status. Next, they discuss the offensive line. Just how good can this until be if fully healthy? Can they be a top five or ten unit in the country? T-Frank is still determining if he's ready to say that, but Pickel is bolder. They're discussing the potential of the offensive line with returning star Olu Fashanu at left tackle, Landon Tengwall at left guard, Hunter Nourzad at center, Saleem Worley at right guard, and Caedan Wallace at right tackle. But will that be the lineup? The line's interior had a shaky season last year with extensive injuries and some struggles from Wormley at right guard. Next, they discuss the reality of what Penn State faces heading into the spring. After discussing several other topics, they end the show with a preview of Penn State wrestling. The Nittany Lions have another top-five showdown, this time against Ohio State on the road. Pickel recaps the win over Iowa and previews the most exciting bouts this weekend. Ep 466Hoops Show: Penn State looking to fix home/road issues against top-ranked Purdue
Penn State basketball's rollercoaster season continues it's wild ride this week on the BWI Penn State Hoops show. Fresh off an 83-61 dismantling of Michigan at home, the Nittany Lions will try to bottle that energy to play No. 1 ranked Purdue on the road Wednesday night. Host Thomas Frank Carr and basketball insider Nate Bauer discuss the win, and the personality of this season on today's Hoops Show. Subscribe to the BWI Hoops Show on YouTube, and review the progam on Apple Podcasts. Bauer and T-Frank start with Penn State's decisive win over Michigan on Sunday, which included an 18-point run to end the first half. Despite that, Bauer points to the first several minutes for growth to put that run in perspective. Next, he and T-Frank discuss another common theme from this season, slow starts to the second half. However, all those factors, including five made three-point shots in a row, are a subset of a more significant theme for the year. Penn State has played very well at home but has struggled on the road. Bauer has the proof in the team's shooting percentage splits and comments from three-point ace Andrew Funk to back it up. So how can Penn State bottle that shooting and take it on the road? Based on the schedule, Bauer thinks this will be the defining aspect of the team's season down the stretch. That's because the team faces yet another set of critical games on the road, and he has each team's home record. The numbers will surprise you. That journey starts tomorrow against top-ranked Purdue at 6:30 pm. So how do they contend with Zach Edey? Hear from Penn State head coach Micah Shrewsberry and how he talks about the likely national player of the year. Finally, T-Frank asks Bauer if the team can pull an upset or at least have a chance to win in the final five minutes. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 462BWI Daily: Penn State commit Anthony Speca is a born leader | Interview
Just over a week ago, Penn State football picked up its second member in the Class of 2024. Four-star linebacker out of Central Catholic in Pittsburgh, Anthony Speca, chose the Nittany Lions over Michigan and Notre Dame. Today, you meet Speca as he sits down for an exclusive interview with host Thomas Frank Carr on the BWI Daily Edition. Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable notifications so you don't miss the interview when it airs at 7 pm on Wednesday. Also, if you'd like to get a question on the BWI Mailbag show, which will be on Thursday, submit a five-star review with your question on Apple Podcasts. T-Frank begins his discussion with Speca by digging into why the rising junior decided to commit early in the process. While it may seem early, Speca has taken steps that most recruits don't in order to evaluate his potential schools. T-Frank asks what that process was like and how taxing that is for a high school player. They also discuss Speca's relationship with former Penn State legend Dan Connor. Conner is an analyst for the Nittany Lions, but he made a strong bond with Speca during the recruiting process. He discusses how the two connected and what they bonded over during their relationship. Part of the recruiting process was also getting to know defensive coordinator and linebacker coach Manny Diaz. Between head coach James Franklin, Conner and Diaz, there was a common thread that Speca respected and bonded over. Check out the interview to see what sealed the deal for the Pittsburgh native. Throughout the recruiting process, the 6-1 linebacker reveals his personality. He discusses his disinterest in the pageantry of the recruiting process, his desire to be great, and his upfront honesty. All of those characteristics paint the picture of a strong leader who joined the program at this point in order to be a leader in recruiting. One of the key recruits that Penn State wants to add to the class is athlete Quinton Martin. Speca describes his relationship with "Q" and how close the duo is. Next, they dive into Speca's skills on the football field. T-Frank asks Speca to scout himself and tell the audience where he thinks his strengths lie and where he wants to improve. Finally, they wrap up the conversation by getting to know Speca outside of football. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Ep 461Hoops Show: Micah Shrewsberry calls out his "soft" team after loss to Rutgers
On Tuesday night, Penn State basketball dropped a rough game on the road, losing to Rutgers 65-45. So how did the Nittany Lions, who have been competitive in nearly every game this season, lose by 20 points? Today on the Blue White Illustrated Hoops Show, insider Nate Bauer discusses that with host Thomas Frank Carr. On today's show, you'll also hear from Penn State basketball head coach Micah Shrewsberry from his comments after the game. Make sure you catch the full show by subscribing to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and turning on notifications. T-Frank and Bauer start the conversation by discussing the most crucial parts of the game. According to Bauer, Penn State fell on its face in the final 11 minutes or so of game action. To make his point, he reads off the shot sequence for Penn State to end the game. Next, he and T-Frank discuss how much of an anomaly the Lion's shooting percentage was last night and why they bottomed out offensively. Next, they discuss why Micah Shrewsberry thinks that the defense played poorly on Tuesday night and how that's a departure from what he wants his team to be. Then, t-Frank and Bauer play clips from a pointed postgame press conference that Shrewsberry held after the game to underscore different aspects of the game. First, they evaluate a season-low offensive output before shifting to how that affected the defensive performance. One of the emerging issues for Penn State is the lack of depth in participation outside of star Jalen Pickett and a handful of other players. Shrewsberry didn't have a problem with how his star guard played on Tuesday night, but he does have a continuing issue with the ecosystem in which he operates. Bauer and T-Frank discuss not only how Pickett needs to get calls from officials but the potential reasons why. Next, they discuss the lack of support Pickett is getting from his teammates. The Nittany Lions role players came up small on Tuesday night, a growing problem in big games for Penn State. Shrewsberry called out his team in a very pointed way. Check out the show to hear his fiery comments. They discuss other elements of the game, including the officiating and the style of play for Penn State, which is an ongoing discussion this year. Finally, they take these topics and project them to the next game. The team hosts Michigan at the BJC on Sunday and hopes for a great atmosphere to help the team overcome a quality opponent. Bauer and T-Frank end the show treading over familiar territory when analyzing the big-game atmosphere at home for the team. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.

He and T-Frank will discuss the situation and the internal view of Nourzad. Then the duo will discuss the external view of the second-year Nittany Lion to see how fans view the 6-3 lineman. Ep 459BWI Daily: How Marques Hagans can boost Penn State recruiting
Blue White Illustrated broke news Monday morning that Penn State has found its next receivers coach. Head coach James Franklin tagged Virginia assistant head coach and receivers coach Marques “Biscuit” Hagans to fill the same position with the Nittany Lions. Hagans survived two coaching changes at Virginia and had been in his current position since 2011. Today on the BWI Daily recruiting show, insiders Ryan Snyder and Sean Fitz discuss the recruiting implications of hiring Hagans. They’ll also highlight the notable players that attended Penn State’s junior day on Saturday. As always, subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube, so you don’t miss the show. If you want to get your questions on the BWI Mailbag Show, submit a five-star review with your question on Apple Podcasts. In the show’s first half, Snyder and Fitz take a deep dive into Hagans fit with the Nittany Lions as a recruiter and developer. Then, they draw some parallels between his best players at UVA and how he was able to help them, highlighted by Olamide Zaccheaus, now a starter for the Atlanta Falcons. But because it’s a recruiting show, they dive deeper into that element of his hiring. Penn State has done very well in Virginia over the last several cycles. Yet there’s one talent-rich area they haven’t been able to mine successfully, and it’s one that Hagans knows well. So they discuss which recruits in the upcoming class he could help Penn State land from the region and what other players outside of receiver he could sway. Finally, they dive into the latest junior day for Penn State football. The list surprised both Fitz and Snyder, who expected a lower turnout for the second of the team’s three junior day events. Instead, several high-level athletes, including a top-25 player in the upcoming class, made the trip to Happy Valley. Find out which 2024 and 2025 players stood out to BWI’s recruiting experts. From there, he and T-Frank discuss what these offers mean and how things have changed over the years. But T-Frank wants to know more and asks why things have changed to the point that they have. Is social media driving the need to offer kids? Is it the competition? Snyder explains what he's seen in the evolution of Penn State's offers not just in the last 20 years but since the pandemic. Finally, they discuss the junior day list for Saturday. Penn State is hosting roughly 40 prospects this weekend and Snyder has picked out the five most intriguing names that fans should know. He and T-Frank discuss each player and what they're so interesting to Snyder. One of the players, Wyomissing prospect Caleb Brewer, sparks a conversation about where Penn State focuses its best commits each cycle. Is the reason that the team can't find a steady supply of defensive tackle prospects because they put those players on the offensive side of the ball? T-Frank and Snyder disagree and discuss the topic at length. Check out the show for the full top five list. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. He'll also give his thoughts on their skills and how Penn State can best use each player. Penn State also got a commitment from three-star linebacker Anthony Speca on Tuesday. According to recruiting insider Ryan Snyder, Speca is close friends with four-star athlete from Pittsburgh, Quinton Martin. Can Penn State land Martin? With such a high-profile player, will NIL be a factor with Martin? One viewer wants to know if Penn State should prioritize him despite Martin not playing a high-value position. This topic leads to a lengthy conversation about NIL and how the system is different at Penn State than in other places. But what about those other systems of NIL that guarantee money to recruits?
