Who Killed...?

On Monday, February 9, 2004, at approximately 7:30 p.m., a black-colored Saturn 4-door sedan vehicle, belonging to 21-year-old Maura Murray, traveled off Route 112 in Haverhill, New Hampshire, and became stuck. The roads in that area of northern New Hampshire were snow-covered at the time. Murray was not present at the crash scene when police arrived and has not been seen nor heard from since. Murray was last seen on surveillance footage earlier in the day at an ATM wearing a dark jacket and jeans. Prior to that, Murray had left the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she was studying nursing. Murray did not share with others her pending trip to New Hampshire, which was about 2.5 hours away. In September of 1982, a 12-year-old girl and six adults in and around Chicago died suddenly and mysteriously. The victims of this product tampering case were Mary Kellerman, age 12, of Elk Grove Village; Adam Janus, age 27, of Arlington Heights; Stanley Janus, age 25, and Theresa Janus, age 19, both of Lisle; Mary Reiner, age 27, of Winfield; Mary McFarland, age 31, of Elmhurst; and Paula Prince, age 35, of Chicago. All seven were determined to have ingested cyanide-laced Extra Strength Tylenol capsules on or shortly after September 29, 1982. On this week’s episode we are going to look into one of the most mysterious deaths in Cleveland in the last decade, the death of 22 year old Corey Barron of Fremont, Ohio. The day started off with high expectations as Corey and his friends were heading to a country music concert featuring Jason Aldean. They were headed to Progressive Field, where the Cleveland Indian’s play. It was meant to be a night of fun with friends and a few cocktails. Unfortunately for Corey and his friends the night would forever be remembered for what happened during the concert, and the fact that Corey never returned after leaving his section. On April 15, 1975, Melanie "Suzy" Cooley left Nederland High School where she was a senior. She was last seen hitchhiking in Nederland. A road maintenance worker found her body on May 2, 1975, in Coal Creek Canyon. Cooley was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue jean jacket with an embroidered eagle on the back and tan-colored boots. On December 30, 2021, a fire in Boulder County fueled by hurricane force winds destroyed more than 1,000 homes and the investigation is underway. Coincidentally, I found myself in the middle of the fire, that will forever be remembered as the Marshall Fire, with my buddy Rob. All we were doing was trying retrieve his truck from Park and Ride in Superior and somehow ended up in an historic wildfire. Authorities are now investigating the cause since the electric company has said they didn't lose any power lines in the high winds. Some investigators say they know the point of origin. Statement on the 25th Anniversary of the JonBenet Ramsey Murder As of December 2021, the Boulder Police Department has processed more than 1,500 pieces of evidence related to the murder of JonBenet Ramsey. JonBenet was 6 years old when she was reported missing on Dec. 26, 1996, after her family reported finding a ransom note inside their home in the 700 block of 15th Street. Her body was found in a basement room, and a later autopsy revealed that the cause of her death was strangulation. As of December 2021, that evidence has included the analysis of nearly 1,000 DNA samples. The BPD Major Crimes Unit has received, reviewed or investigated more than 21,016 tips, letters and emails and detectives have traveled to 19 states to interview or speak with more than 1,000 individuals in connection to this crime. Thanks to the huge advances in DNA technology, multiple suspects have been run through the system to check for matches. CBI has updated over 750 reference samples with the latest DNA technology. The Boulder Police Department works closely with CBI on future DNA advancements. Additionally, Boulder Police have worked with CBI to ensure the DNA in the system can be compared correctly to new DNA samples that have been uploaded to ensure accuracy. That DNA is checked regularly for any new matches. As the Department continues to use new technology to enhance the investigation, it is actively reviewing genetic DNA testing processes to see if those can be applied to this case moving forward. While we both agree this is a significant move in the investigation but we do our best not to speculate. Again, this case will be solved by someone who knows something. The Delphi Police Department, the Carroll County Sheriff, the Indiana State Police, and the FBI are asking for your assistance in identifying the suspect in the double homicide of two teenage girls, Abigail J. "Abby" Williams, 13, and Liberty Rose Lynn "Libby" German, 14, both from Delphi. In Monday’s press conference, authorities turned to the public in hopes of gleaning more information about the phony profile creator, known as a catfish, who went by the name “anthony_shots” on social media between 2016 and 2017. Police released photos of a male model used by the suspect, emphasizing that they were in contact with the model, who is not a person of interest in their investigation. “The fictitious anthony_shots profile used images of a known male model and portrayed himself as being extremely wealthy and owning numerous sports cars,” said Public Information Officer Sgt. Jeremy Piers. “The creator of the fictitious profile used this information while communicating with juvenile females to solicit nude images, obtain their addresses, and attempt to meet them.” On Monday, February 13th, 2017, at approximately 1:00 p.m., the two young girls were let off near the Monon High Bridge, an abandoned rail bridge over Deer Creek to walk around and hang out. They were to be picked up later in the afternoon, but did not show up there at the previously arranged time. Following an extensive search, at approximately 12:15 p.m. on February 14, 2017, the bodies of the two girls were found in a wooded area near the Delphi Historic Trail, approximately one-half mile upstream from the bridge. Memorial Day Weekend was on the horizon and she had plans to go out of town with her friends. Police say she left her friends dorm at Kent State University to walk a short distance to her dormitory. This would be the last time she would be seen again. She wouldn't be reported missing for more than a day since she lived alone. The case never seemed to materialize and eventually went cold. Unfortunately, Judy's parents have passed away and this case remains unsolved to this day. Her brother and sister would like to see this case resolved and believes it can be done. On Saturday August 8, 1982 Beth Bramlett, a 17 year old white female, went to a party at Trading House Lake Reservoir with some of her friends. A fight broke out at the party and Beth decided to leave. That was the last time any of her friends saw Beth alive. At the crime scene, he said, Bramlett’s body was laid across the tracks, face down, and didn’t appear to have been brutalized, but when investigators turned her over, it appeared someone had chewed or gnawed, maybe even eaten a part of her body. Helene Pruszynski was from Hamilton, Massachusetts. She had been working as an intern at KHOW-AM for two weeks when she was killed on Jan. 16, 1980. She was found stabbed to death in a field the following day in a field in Englewood, CO. Familial DNA Strikes Again! According to the Great Falls Tribune, on Jan. 3, 1956, three boys hiking along Sun River near Wadsworth Park discovered Loyd Duane Bogle, 18, dead near his car. A day later, a county road worker found Patricia Kalitzke's body on Vineyard Road north of Great Falls. Both had been shot in the head. Bogle's hands were bound behind his back with his own belt. His valuables and money were not stolen, and his car was on and in gear with the emergency brake deployed when his body was found. Kalitzke was born in Great Falls and was a junior at Great Falls High School when she was killed. Bogle was a Malmstrom Air Force Base Airman from Waco, Texas. Eugene was last seen between 5:30 and 6:00 a.m. on August 12, 1984 in his hometown of Des Moines, Iowa. He was preparing to start delivering his morning newspaper route at the time. He normally delivered the papers with his older stepbrother, but his stepbrother was not with him that day. Witnesses saw Eugene talking to a man between 5:00 and 5:15 a.m. at southwest 12th Street and Highview Drive. The man is described as clean-cut, and he appeared to be in his thirties. He has never been identified. They were reportedly engaged in friendly conversation. TONY MUNCY UPDATE: Nic from True Crime Garage is back as a guest to discuss the latest UPDATE in the Tony Muncy case. You can listen to their premium episode HERE. “Tony” Muncy (15) was last seen on October 15, 1983 in the evening hours at the York Plaza Movie Theatre in Columbus. On October 16, 1983, his dismembered body was found on South Galena Road, Galena, Delaware County, Ohio.Cause of death: multiple stab wounds in the back. All extremities were either partly or completely severed from his torso. His severed arms seemed cut at the elbows. His legs and his head were partly severed.The Delaware County Sheriff’s Report states that Deputy J. Loudermilk was called to South Galena Road to meet a man who found what appeared to be a body. I have not been able to find out if this man was cleared as a suspect.The body was between Golf Course Road and Alexander Road east of the bridge. Deputy Loudermilk found Muncy lying beside the road inside four black trash bags. The body was all cut up. Source: FBI.gov On August 23, 1992, Tammy J. Zywicki departed Evanston, Illinois, for college in Grinnell, Iowa, where she was expected to arrive that evening. Later that day, Zywicki's car was found by an Illinois State Trooper and ticketed as being abandoned. On August 24, 1992, the vehicle was towed by the Illinois State Police. On that same evening, Zywicki's mother contacted the Illinois State Police and advised them that her daughter had not arrived at college. On September 1, 1992, Zywicki's body was located along Interstate Highway 44 (I-44) in rural Lawrence County, Missouri, which is located between Springfield and Joplin, Missouri. She had been stabbed to death. Zywicki was reportedly last seen with her car (shown above) at mile marker 83 on I-80 in Central Illinois, between 3:10 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on August 23, 1992. It was also reported that a tractor/trailer was seen near Zywicki's vehicle during this time period. The driver of the tractor/trailer is described as a white male between 35 and 40 years of age, over six feet tall, with dark, bushy hair. Some of the victim's personal property is known to be missing, including a Cannon 35mm camera and a musical wrist watch. The watch is Lorus brand, with a green umbrella on its face and a green band. From https://shallowgravesthebook.com/: The women were dead before anyone realized they were gone. It was 1988, before the opiate epidemic of the 2000s, before families openly talked about heroin addicts, before there was a public face to the addiction. At the time, as many still do today, young women in the throes of addiction turned to street hustles to find money for drugs. They would write bad checks, shoplift and some, as the addiction worsened, turned to conning men into giving them money. Some turned to prostitution. The addicts lived on the outer edges. In a small city like New Bedford, people recognized them on the street. Many knew their families. New Bedford is a tight knit city with large, close families. It is also a fishing community where people know death can come unexpectedly on the seas. But no one expected what happened in 1988. Eleven women went missing that year. Nine were later found dead along local highways surrounding the city. It is officially unsolved. I was a reporter at the Standard-Times of New Bedford, Massachusetts, at the time. I knew some of the women who were on the streets at the time, struggling with addictions. They were good people. Some of them are still alive, finally kicking their habits. Many are now dead. Some of AIDS, some from overdoses, a few from natural causes. Some of the women got clean before they died, giving their families – and children – the gift of knowing their true spirit. I have been haunted by the story of these dead women for years. Their families have lived with the pain each day. No one should get away with murder. Shallow Graves: The Hunt for the New Bedford Highway Serial Killer (ForeEdge) tells the story of the investigation through the eyes of the investigators and some of the families.
