The Sodder Family Christmas Mystery

On this week’s episode we will take a look back to 19-45 when a mysterious fire broke out on Christmas Eve at the Sodder family home. One of my main sources for this story comes from an article written in the New York Post from 1975, detailing the strange circumstances surrounding this fire. The kids had received their presents earlier in the evening so they were excited and wanted to play with their toys. The parents went to bed at 10:30 p.m. Jennie began to smell smoke around 1:30 am and she realized it was filling the room. The house was on fire. Stricken with fear all the Sodder’s could do was watch their house burn to the ground. There was no sign of the five children; they were not outside and efforts to spot them through the windows of the blazing house failed. Authorities decided that the five children perished in the blaze. Yet no remains, no bones, no trace of human tissue, were found in the ruins... The case remains unsolved... Eastbound Strangler Conclusion... for now

Sources: Atlantic City Prosecutor's Office THE CASE: On November 20, 2006 the four victims were found in the drainage ditch behind the Golden Key Motel in West Atlantic City (Egg Harbor Township). The drainage ditch contains fresh water run-off and is also tidal measuring five feet deep and ten feet across. It runs parallel with Route 322. Kim Raffo was the first victim discovered when her body was located by two women out for a walk. They were walking along a path that ran parallel to the drainage ditch. After 911 was contacted and uniformed officers arrived, three more female bodies were discovered as officers searched along the path for additional evidence. The ACPO Major Crimes Unit arrived and the crime scene area was secured. The bodies were recovered during the evening hours and the scene remained secured until daybreak on November 21, 2006. The area from which the bodies were recovered was searched east to the bridge and west for approximately one mile between Route 322 and the Atlantic City Expressway. All four bodies were identified: Kim Raffo, Molly Dilts, Barbara Breidor and Tracy Roberts; and families contacted within a week’s time. Anyone with information involving serious crimes is asked to call the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office at 609-909-7800 or go to the Prosecutor’s Office Web site at https://www.acpo.org/tips.html and provide information by filling out the form anonymously on the Submit a Tip page. Jay Orbin w/ Author Kerrie Droban *BRAND NEW *

Jay Orbin was allegedly murdered by his ex-wife Marjorie Orbin, join me and her attorney as we discuss her case. This week's guest is author and criminal defense attorney Kerrie Droban. She believes she has evidence to help her client Marjorie Orbin who has been locked up for 18 years. Join us as we discuss this wild and infuriating case. Marjorie Ann Orbin murdered her husband Jay Orbin in Phoenix, Arizona on or about September 8, 2004 - which would have been his 45th birthday. Orbin was a jewellery dealer. In September 2004 he returned home to Phoenix from a long road trip to Florida. Police believe he arrived at his home on September 8, based on his cell phone and credit card records. He was never seen alive again. Marjorie Ann Orbin was convicted of the murder in 2009 after a trial lasting eight months. Marjorie Orbin was a 47 year old former Las Vegas showgirl. According to officials, when Jay Orbin returned home from a business trip, investigators believe his wife shot and killed him, then dismembered his body in an attempt to keep the affairs a secret and inherit Jay's money. Jay's body wasn't found until several weeks later, when his torso was found on October 23 in a plastic container on the outskirts of Phoenix. The rest of his body was never found. On October 1, 2009, Orbin was sentenced to life imprisonment by an Arizona court. - AZ.gov www.kerriedroban.com Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

From Atlantic City Prosecutor's Office: "Prosecutor Tyner said law enforcement needs the public’s help as the investigation continues 12 years later. “Somebody knows something about this case. Somebody has to know something,” Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner says of the discovery on Nov. 20, 2006, of the bodies of Kim Raffo, Molly Dilts, Barbara Breidor and Tracy Roberts that were dumped in a drainage ditch in West Atlantic City. “At the end of the day, Kim Raffo, Molly Dilts, Barbara Breidor and Tracy Roberts were someone’s mother, daughter, sister, and wife. James Carroll: An Interview with Author David Domine

On June 18, 2010, police discover a body buried in the wine cellar of a Victorian mansion in Old Louisville. James Carroll, shot and stabbed the year before, has lain for 7 months in a plastic storage bin—his temporary coffin. Homeowner Jeffrey Mundt and his boyfriend, Joseph Banis, point the finger at each other in what locals dub The Pink Triangle Murder. On the surface, this killing appears to be a crime of passion, a sordid love tryst gone wrong in a creepy old house. But as author David Dominé sits in on the trials, a deeper story emerges: the struggle between hope for a better future on the one hand and the privilege and power of the status quo on the other. As the court testimony devolves into he-said/he-said contradictions, David draws on the confidences of neighbors, drag queens, and other acquaintances within the city's vibrant LGBTQ community to piece together the details of the case. While uncovering the many past lives of the mansion itself, he enters a murky underworld of gossip, neighborhood scandal, and intrigue. - News Sources: WLKY New Louisville Purchase HERE Learn more about your ad choices. Conclusion of Unsealed: The Tylenol Murders w/ Hosts Christy Gutowski & Stacy St. Clair

In 1982, the nation was living in fear. One by one people in the Chicago area were dying. No one knew why — or who would be next. Law enforcement mobilized to answer the what, who and why. The what was Tylenol, laced with cyanide, placed randomly on store shelves to kill unsuspecting victims. But the who and the why? That would elude investigators for decades. If you think you know the story of the Tylenol Murders, think again. Delphi Murder Arrest, ISP Update Press Conference 10/31/2022

Here is today's press conference announcing the arrest of Richard Allen in connection to the deaths of Libby German & Abigail Williams. Today is the day these families have been waiting for since 2017. On Monday, February 13th, at approximately 1:00 p.m., the two young girls were let off near the Monon High Bridge, an abandoned rail bridge over Deer Creek to walk around and hang out. They were to be picked up later in the afternoon, but did not show up there at the previously arranged time. Following an extensive search, at approximately 12:15 p.m. on February 14, 2017, the bodies of the two girls were found in a wooded area near the Delphi Historic Trail, approximately one-half mile upstream from the bridge. On Wednesday, February 15th, law enforcement officers distributed a photograph of a person observed on the Delphi Historic Trail. The photograph appears to depict a white male wearing blue jeans, a blue coat/jacket, and a hoodie. During the course of the investigation, preliminary evidence has led investigators to believe the person, in the distributed photograph, is a suspect in the investigation of the homicides of Abigail Williams and Liberty German. Indiana State Police have arrested a man in connection to the murders of Abigail Williams and Liberty German in Delphi. The announcement came Monday morning that officials have taken 50-year-old Richard Allen of Delphi into custody for the murders of the two teens five and a half years ago. Police say Allen was arrested on Wednesday and later charged with two counts of murder. Allen has been transported to the White County Jail and is being held without bond. Ross Ulbricht & The Silk Road: With Justin of Generation Why

Using the online moniker “Dread Pirate Roberts,” or “DPR,” ULBRICHT controlled and oversaw every aspect of Silk Road, and managed a staff of paid, online administrators and computer programmers who assisted with the day-to-day operation of the site. Through his ownership and operation of Silk Road, ULBRICHT reaped commissions worth more than $13 million generated from the illicit sales conducted through the site. ULBRICHT also demonstrated a willingness to use violence to protect his criminal enterprise and the anonymity of its users, soliciting six murders-for-hire in connection with operating the site, although there is no evidence that these murders were actually carried out. -FBI.gov If you would like to support the show you can click on the donate button on the right-hand side of www.sloburnmedia.com or via the Venmo app with my username @bill-huffman-3. The Sherri Papini Hoax

Sherri Papini was found alive on Thanksgiving morning, three weeks after her alleged abduction. Although the circumstances surrounding the 34-year-old mother's disappearance and return are unusual, Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko said he has "no reason to disbelieve" the California woman's story. - Inquisitir Papini was reported missing after she went out for a jog near her Shasta County home in Northern California. Three weeks later, she was found injured and alone on a highway about 140 miles away. She told police she had been abducted and tortured by two masked, Spanish-speaking women who kept her chained in a closet, held her at gunpoint and branded her with a heated tool. The accusations led authorities to carry out an extensive search for the supposed Hispanic captors that came up empty for several years. She also received more than $30,000 from the state in victim compensation funds. -CNN Sources:s:https://people.com/crime/sherri-papini-people-cover-story-2017/ California woman who faked her own kidnapping sentenced ...https://www.cnn.com › 2022/09/19 › sherri-papini-fake-k… https://people.com/crime/sherri-papini-investigation-update-california-abduction/ https://www.sfgate.com/crime/article/FBI-says-Sherri-Papini-made-up-kidnapping-16980963.php https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZdUfWTmyUs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGnVbZKytNk Learn more about your ad choices. Honey & Barry Sherman w/ Nic of TCG

Toronto police say a private investigation into the slayings two years ago of billionaire couple Barry and Honey Sherman has ended, but their own probe continues — and they want people who sent tips to the private tipline to repeat them now directly to police. To that end, police have set up a telephone tipline and email address, Insp. Hank Idsinga told a media briefing Monday. The Sherman family had hired a team of private investigators to conduct an independent probe. It included several former Toronto homicide detectives. While Idsinga said the private team received 343 tips — information that was shared with police — it has now wrapped its work on the case, he said, citing the Sherman family. Idsinga asked that anyone who submitted those private tips now resubmit them to Toronto police to avoid any loss of information. - CBC Investigators said Barry and Honey were found dead in the lower-level pool area, reportedly hanging by belts from a railing on the pool deck and wearing their clothing. A post-mortem examination determined the Shermans died of “ligature neck compression.” It was also determined that the couple likely died two days before they were found on Dec. 13, 2017. - GlobalNewsCa Police have also set up a direct email address for the case. Tips can be provided at [email protected] or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 416-222-8477. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/barry-honey-sherman-two-years-family-statement-1.5397428 Learn more about your ad choices. Molly Bish w/ Nic of TCG

Molly, the youngest of three siblings, was 16 when she was killed. An honor roll student, Molly had just completed her junior year of high school. She played soccer, basketball and softball. Funny and social, Molly loved everyone. She was a blend of “Lucy” and “Forest Gump.” Just eight days after beginning her new job as a lifeguard at Cummins Pond, Molly was abducted. After three years of fear and the unknown, her bathing suit was found in a wooded area five miles away from the pond. In the weeks that followed, her remains were found and she came home bone-by-bone. Molly was laid to rest on her birthday, August 2, 2003. - Mass.gov Anyone with information on Molly's case is urged to call the anonymous tip line at 508-453-7575. Learn more about your ad choices. Larry DeWayne Hall & Black Bird

Black Bird on Apple TV+ tells the true story of serial killer Larry DeWayne Hall and convicted drug dealer Jimmy Keene. This is my new favorite show since Mindhunter and it is remarkably accurate. Black Bird is based on the book I'm With the Devil: A Fallen Hero, A Serial Killer, and A Dangerous Bargain for Redemption by James Keene. Yes, it's the same James Keene. The series is absolutely based on this book, which is a true story. It's easy to see why people would question its validity, because this tale is stranger than fiction. - Distractify Sources: TRAILER https://www.distractify.com/p/black-bird-apple-tv-true-story https://tv.apple.com/us/show/black-bird/umc.cmc.30gx1y8nwthydkrvhqu156p3 https://www.historyvshollywood.com/reelfaces/black-bird/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKmtA7DagIA https://thecinemaholic.com/larry-hall-now/ https://www.eonline.com/news/1337008/the-true-story-behind-apple-tv-s-blackbird http://maamodt.asp.radford.edu/Psyc%20405/serial%20killers/Hall,%20Larry%20DeWayne.pdf Learn more about your ad choices. Conclusion of Colonial Parkway Murders (NEW)

Some important facts to know about the Colonial Parkway if you have never had the pleasure of driving it yourself or experiencing it on a class trip. According to the National Park Service https://www.nps.gov/colo/parkway.htm The Colonial Parkway is a twenty-three mile scenic roadway stretching from the York River at Yorktown to the James River at Jamestown. The road does it best to remind drivers of days past as the parkway does not allow semi trucks and is toll-free. As you meander though the parkway you are graced with beautiful views of the James and York rivers that run along the parkway. According to Triple A "redbuds and dogwoods decorate the roadway in spring, while fall brings an explosion of autumn colors” From an article in the Daily Press in 1990, the parkway is no place to be after dark ”At night, the mood changes. The trees form a tunnel of blackness, broken only if the moon is shining. There are no streetlights, no call boxes and no fast-food restaurants or convenience stores where a driver might find refuge in case of a breakdown”. The parkway is under the rangers' jurisdiction because it is federal land owned by the National Park Service When a serious crime is committed, the York County Sheriff's Department, the Williamsburg or James City police departments are called to assist, Neprash said. The parkway is federal land, the FBI may also become involved in investigations. Crimemuseum.org says, "police have questioned 150 suspects in connection to these four cases, but all have been cleared. The police attribute these eight murders to the same killer because of similarities in each case. All of the victims were killed at or near their car, the first three being found at known lover’s lane areas. None of the victims were robbed, and sexual assault did not appear to be a motive in any of the cases. The first and third murders were mere miles apart, and the second and fourth were committed about a half hour away from the Parkway. In 2018, the Facebook page Colonial Parkway Murders, which is run by Cathy’s brother Bill Thomas, and today's guest revealed that DNA had been found at 3 of the 4 crime scenes which could potentially conclusively link the cases and lead to an arrest. Hair that had been found in Cathy’s hand and a biological sample found on Robin have never been tested The First couple to fall victim Cathy Thomas and Rebecca Dowski Cathleen Thomas, 27, Class of 1981 graduate United States Naval Academy and College of William & Mary senior Rebecca Ann Dowski, 21. Interview w/ Author Kathryn Miles of Trailed

This week, I was lucky to have author Kathryn Miles on the show. She has written a great new true crime book; Trailed: One Woman's Quest to Solve the Shenandoah Murders. We have a wide ranging conversation about law enforcement, the keys to this case, and where do thing stands now? If you enjoy a guest who is well researched then this is a must listen. In May 1996, two skilled backcountry leaders, Lollie Winans and Julie Williams, entered Virginia’s Shenandoah National Park for a week-long backcountry camping trip. The free-spirited and remarkable young couple had met and fallen in love the previous summer while working at a world-renowned outdoor program for women. During their final days in the park, they descended the narrow remnants of a trail and pitched their tent in a hidden spot. After the pair didn’t return home as planned, park rangers found a scene of horror at their campsite, their tent slashed open, their beloved dog missing, and both women dead in their sleeping bags. The unsolved murders of Winans and Williams continue to haunt all who had encountered them or knew their story. - Workman Publishing Kathryn Miles is represented by the Strothman Literary Agency. Bombings on US Soil

I hope everyone is doing well this week after yet another school shooting killed 19 kids. I’m not going to get into specifics but I do think it is important to acknowledge the loss that has taken place. This comes 10 days after 10 people were killed in a mass shooting in Buffalo. This isn’t good, and it appears we are all too comfortable with seeing this crap on the news. Just to give you some perspective this was the 27th school shooting so far this year... To keep things as light as possible, this week we will focus on a few bombings on US soil and their impacts. Madeleine McCann & Girl Scout Murder Updates

This week there were two major updates in the world of true crime. First, the Portugal police are now saying they have enough evidence to conclude their suspect, Christian Bruckner, is guilty of Madeleine's abduction & murder. This is the largest missing persons case in world history so this is monumental news. Thank you to the BBC, Great Morning Britain and The Sun for helping with my research. Kudos to Ranker writer Cat McAuliffe for the insight into the 1977 Camp Scott Girl Scout Murders. Also thank you to News on 6 KOTV. Flashback, Amy Mihaljevic

On October 27, 1989, 10 year-old Amy Mihaljevic, a fifth grader from Bay Village Middle School, was abducted from here all american town. Bay Village is a suburb about 10 miles west of Cleveland. Bay Village is nestled on the lakefront of Lake Erie and has a median income of just over $100,000 and houses sell on average for close to $200,000- $3,000,000. Bay Village is a quiet community that loves to participate in city activities such as soccer, the annual Bay Day Run and of course the Bay Day’s traveling carnival that makes Cahoon Park its home for three days over every Fourth of July. To put it simply it is a great place to live because it is true community, one that looks out for other neighbors’ kids and where you will see people out walking and running almost everywhere you look. That is why this case could be considered one of the most audacious crimes I have ever come across; how did this tight knit community become the center of one of true crimes greatest mysteries, who killed Amy Mihaljevic? Long Island Serial Killer w/ Maggie Freleng Part 2

Former Suffolk County Police Chief James Burke, who previously led the investigation on the case, had cut ties with the federal investigators during the serial killer probe. Burke, who has been accused of mishandling the case, later served a 46-month federal prison sentence after pleading guilty to beating up a handcuffed suspect who had stolen a gym bag from his SUV in a separate case. "The Suffolk County Sheriff's Office has a dedicated Human Trafficking Unit, which has been operating inside the jail for the last three and a half years," Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon, Jr., stated on Tuesday. "This unit has obtained valuable information and leads that we hope to share with our partner agencies to help solve this case and bring justice to these victims." Harrison, who was just confirmed as the new police commissioner for Suffolk County in December, announced on New Year’s Eve that the department is in “a great place to solve” the case, citing new leads. He stated at a press conference that he is “making a commitment to the residents of Suffolk County as well as the family members.” - Oxygen Learn more about your ad choices. Long Island Serial Killer w/ Maggie Freleng

Suffolk County’s new police commissioner announced in February the creation of a special joint task force to solve the decade-old Gilgo Beach murders. A new interagency task force including investigators from the FBI, as well as state and local police departments, will try to solve the decade-old mystery of human remains found strewn along a New York beach highway, officials announced Tuesday. The formation of the Gilgo Beach task force represents a renewed commitment to investigating the unsolved killings of mostly young women whose skeletal remains were found along a highway on Long Island, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison said. “As I said on Day One as police commissioner, I believe this case is solvable and identifying the person or people responsible for these murders is a top priority,” Harrison, who took over the top job at the Suffolk County department last month, said in a news release. John Wayne Gacy w/ Nic from True Crime Garage Part 2

The FBI provided investigative assistance to Illinois police. In 1980, Gacy was convicted of murdering 33 young men ranging in age from 14 to 21. n 1978, after one of Gacy’s victims, Robert Piest, was reported missing, police learned that Gacy was the last person known to have seen him. After obtaining a search warrant, police discovered the bodies of 29 boys and young men in or near Gacy’s house; four other bodies were found in the nearby Des Plaines River. Indeed, the area of the house had emitted a foul stench for years, but Gacy had told his houseguests and his wife that the smell was the result of moisture buildup. At his trial Gacy’s plea of innocent by reason of insanity was supported by the testimony of several psychologists, who diagnosed him as schizophrenic, but was rejected by the jury, which found him guilty of all 33 murders of which he was accused; he was executed by lethal injection in 1994. - Britannica SOURCES: https://www.newspapers.com/clip/97809682/ https://www.newspapers.com/clip/97811240/ https://apnews.com/article/chicago-2a5842ef8ee46f8d43799bc50f390ad8 https://www.britannica.com/biography/John-Wayne-Gacy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5s7WMxSplg https://www.biography.com/news/john-wayne-gacy-timeline-murders https://vault.fbi.gov/John%20Wayne%20Gacy John Wayne Gacy timeline: The efforts to recover, name his 33 ...https://www.chicagotribune.com › history › ct-john-wa… John Wayne Gacy, the country's worst serial killer - Chicago ...https://www.chicagotribune.com › nation-world › chi-c… John Wayne Gacy - Chicago Tribunehttps://www.chicagotribune.com › topic › john-wayne-… Learn more about your ad choices. Jeffrey Dahmer Part 2

Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer (/ˈdɑːmər/; May 21, 1960 – November 28, 1994), also known as the Milwaukee Cannibal or the Milwaukee Monster, was an American serial killer and sex offender who committed the murder and dismemberment of seventeen men and boys between 1978 and 1991. Many of his later murders involved necrophilia,[1] cannibalism, and the permanent preservation of body parts—typically all or part of the skeleton.[2] - Wikipedia Two Milwaukee police officers were flagged down by an agitated man with handcuffs attached at one wrist. Tracey Edwards, 32, told the officers a “freak” had placed the handcuffs on him and that he had spent the better part of the evening trying to escape from a nearby apartment where he was being held captive.
