EP 357: Naked Life Story - Evan
When Evan began drinking in high school at age 16, he thought alcohol was the greatest thing on Earth. He found it easy to balance everything in his world - social life, academics, a part-time job, sports. In college partying became more important, and he barely graduated. As he began his career, Evan worked hard and played hard, committed to never changing his drinking. Then stuff started happening. A drunken fall left his ankle permanently damaged. He began wetting the bed. He drove under the influence. He drank to excess with his dad who then ended up hospitalized with chest pains. By this time, Evan was a husband and a father. He caught up with a college friend at a party - the friend had stopped drinking and credited This Naked Mind with his success. A few months later, Evan decided to address the monster in his life. He and Annie talk about how he became unstuck, found freedom from alcohol, and the wisdom of a local hero that keeps him focused on the present. Have you tried The Alcohol Experiment? EP 351: Naked Life Story - Jill
From shots and beers after shift at her summer job working in a bar to what she considered sophisticated wine drinking in her twenties, Jill describes herself as a sloppy drunk. Then the blackouts started. For a long time, people excused Jill’s drinking -- she was coping with her sick mother, then her mother’s death six months before her wedding -- in fact, people encouraged her to drink in order to cope. The guilt over not being able to breastfeed her newborn made things even worse and Jill was drinking a magnum bottle of wine every night. This Naked Mind helped Jill see how the person she was as a drinker didn’t align with the values of the person she wanted to be. Find out how she chooses to be her best self and the profound, tangible way she practices self-compassion. Hi, it's Annie Grace. EP 349: Naked Life Story - Robbie
Robbie is a married mom of three adult children, an empty nester who considers stopping drinking her greatest accomplishment. On today’s episode, this Certified Naked Mind Senior Coach gets vulnerable as she lets us into her world and shares her drinking and quitting journey, from motherhood to what ultimately led her to become a coach. She and Annie talk about how to identify when alcohol becomes “a thing” for you, when it becomes “your thing” -- what are the guideposts, where is the shift, and how do you know it has happened? They also talk about what Annie calls “The Rapunzel Syndrome” as it relates to drinking and so many other things in life. Let me ask you a question. What is better than change? Lasting change, of course. If you've had trouble making change stick, either with alcohol or in any other area of your life, you are in for a treat. I created the 100 Days of Lasting Change to ensure that we don't just change for a moment, but we truly transform for a lifetime. This program is so close to my heart. EP 348: Reader Question - How do I get my drinking partner to try sober sex?
What do you do when you’ve stopped drinking but your partner still does? When their drinking is a turnoff and the taste of alcohol on their breath grosses you out? How do you dive into this difficult conversation with someone you love? Do you rip off the bandaid and just go for it or is there a better strategy? Annie Grace offers her thoughts on a courageous reader’s vulnerable question. Are you ready for a deep dive into truly lasting change? If so, you might consider my Intensive Program. EP 347: Naked Life Story - Evelyne
There wasn’t much alcohol around when Evelyne was growing up, just some wine on special occasions. She began drinking in college, eventually becoming someone who could always drink more than her friends and always wanted more to drink. But, since she didn’t feel dependent on alcohol, did well at work, and had never gotten a DUI, Evelyne never questioned her drinking. It wasn’t until she was taking a Monday night wine class - something that kicked off her drinking each week - that she stumbled upon This Naked Mind. Today, living alcohol free allows Evelyne to be more authentic in her work in the integrative functional medicine field. If you asked me about the one thing that makes This Naked Mind so different from anything else, I would have to say emotion. It is the emotion when people feel really ready to make a change, when they’ve had that mindset shift, when they’ve gone through all the materials and the methodology and they get this feeling that it’s not that they never get to drink again it's that they never have to drink again. And, interestingly, according to all sorts of new research, it is emotion, especially positive emotion, more than anything else that predicates how long a change will stick, how long it will last. It is emotion. When you feel excited about a change in your life. When you feel thrilled you’re making this new difference, instead of feeling deprived like you’re missing out, everything changes. And it really makes it that This Naked Mind can stick for the long term. If you want to know more about how to truly change your emotion around drinking, I want you to join me at nakedmindpath.com. It is the path to changing your emotion and changing your feelings and really finding freedom in your relationship with alcohol. And as always, rate, review, and subscribe to this podcast as it truly helps the message reach somebody who might need to hear it today. Episode Links Evelyne's Website

She thrived on people pleasing and found herself sleepwalking through her own life just to meet the needs of others. Stuck between the decision to continue drinking miserably or become miserable trying not to drink, Meade found This Naked Mind and stopped allowing alcohol to block her from living a life she loves. EP 338: Reader Question - Is it safe to stop drinking if I have been drinking every day?

Over the years, there have been varying schools of thought when it comes to drinking after childbirth. Some doctors have been known to recommend a drink or two to help with milk production. In today’s episode, Annie Grace shares some of her own story and her thoughts about drinking as the mother of an infant. Hi, it's Annie Grace. Until one afternoon, in the middle of a Prosecco-soaked bridal shower, she walked away. Ella talks with Annie Grace about everything from how being awake has helped her learn to reframe anger to the importance of sobriety-fueled awareness and clarity in our work to understand and combat racism. EP 325: Naked Life Story - Jenny
Growing up in Louisiana, Jenny experienced a boozy culture every day. She comes from a long line of storytellers and brings her own wonderful narrative skill to this podcast episode. Jenny’s first experience with beer as a high school freshman at the varsity soccer team initiation party made her feel at home in her own skin for the very first time. From there, her relationship with alcohol was on and off - she drank to fit in when she hung out with the “cool” crowd and she abstained to fit in when she spent time with Christian groups. After a battle with cancer as an adult, Jenny’s drinking reached new levels - while she couldn’t envision life without alcohol, she also was no longer happy with her drinking habits. In The Alcohol Experiment, Jenny found bravery, freedom, community, and a way to embrace the feelings she had been numbing for so long. EP 320: Reader Question - What is the pink cloud?
The term “pink cloud” is generally used to describe a state in which a someone abstaining from drugs or alcohol manifests euphoria, overconfidence, and a false sense of wellbeing, therefore making them more vulnerable to relapse. However, there has been very little scientific research done on the pink cloud. On today’s episode, Annie Grace explores what happens to the brain and the body when you stop drinking alcohol and where that euphoric feeling might come from. Hi. Super exciting news. Having to explain the breathalyzer in the car to her five children and answer their questions about her drinking was a turning point for Emily and she began her journey in AA. Today, Emily is a This Naked Mind coach and loves helping others find freedom from alcohol. Hi. Super exciting news. So The Alcohol Experiment book is being released. EP 316: Reader Question - How can I raise kids in our alcohol soaked society?
Today’s question from a mom is near and dear to Annie Grace’s heart. Even if we raise our kids differently than our parents raised us, teaching them lessons about alcohol we wish our parents had taught us, how do we navigate the inevitable years where they will rebel and experiment with alcohol and make mistakes. As a mom of three herself, Annie often thinks about what her kids’ experiences with alcohol will be like. Listen as she shares her thoughts. EP 315: Naked Life Story - Kelly
As a kid, Kelly watched her mom struggle with alcohol. There was physical and emotional abuse. Although her own relationship with alcohol started out “just like everyone else’s” and she was well aware of what alcohol could do to a person, Kelly found herself drinking to manage emotional waves and blackout. Though Kelly never missed work or got a DUI, red flags popped up as she tried to moderate and set rules around her drinking. Today, she has taken back her power, made alcohol small, and broken an intergenerational cycle of alcohol abuse. I'm so excited you guys, because we are just about to start another live alcohol experiment. If you do not know about the alcohol experiment, you need to literally drop everything right now and go to thisnakedmind.com/lae. That's L-A-E for Live Alcohol Experiment. EP 314: Reader Question - How do I stay sober in trying times?
On today’s episode, a reader who has been alcohol free for three weeks is struggling to cope with a stressful situation and wondering how to avoid relaxing with a glass of wine. What really happens when you use alcohol to relax? Do you feel better? How long does that feeling last? What are some other ways to manage your emotions in super difficult times? Annie Grace explains. EP 313: Naked Life Story - Amy M.
Amy didn’t pick up alcohol until college. After graduation, she put it down again. People often found it curious that she didn’t drink. However, when she became a parent to special needs children, everything changed. Though well-intentioned, the moms with whom Amy connected supported one another by encouraging drinking and she began using alcohol to cope with life’s stresses. The logic that drinking wouldn’t change anything never worked on Amy; the fact things were never going to change was the very reason she drank. Though alcohol became very sneaky and difficult to break up with, Amy found the freedom she deeply wanted, even amidst a pandemic. Are you ready for a deep dive into truly lasting change? If so, you might consider my Intensive Program. It’s a 9-week, self-led program that you can do in the complete comfort of your own home. It will truly transform your relationship with alcohol. If you want to learn more about this, go to thisnakedmind.com/intensive. And, as always - rate, review, and subscribe to this podcast, as it truly helps the message reach somebody who might need to hear it today.

EP 312: Reader Question - How can I convince others not to drink?
Annie Grace answers a phenomenal question today. A reader asks, “Now that I know the truth about alcohol, how do I not force it on others who are doing the same thing I was?” When you have removed alcohol from your life and learned so much from your experience and you’re watching people you love continue doing something that’s harmful to them, how do you reconcile those things? What can you do to get people to take your advice? As always, rate, review, and subscribe to this podcast as it truly helps the message reach somebody who might need to hear it today.

EP 311: Naked Life Story - Victoria
When she began the process of deciding whether to try to moderate her drinking or completely remove alcohol from her life, Victoria took a quiz to figure out her core values. The results didn’t tell her anything new - she was already aware of her core values. However, what she realized is that when she had alcohol in her system, she was not living with integrity. From anxiety to marriage to divorce to marriage to motherhood (times four) to a cancer diagnosis and treatment to finding freedom from alcohol, This Naked Mind coach Victoria shares her story and how she's brought her behavior and beliefs into alignment. Are you looking to connect with like-minded people? EP 310: Reader Question - Does alcohol really make you more creative?
It is very common for us to believe alcohol makes us more creative. But, does it really? Is there any scientific proof?
