EP 418: Coaching Questions with Scott Pinyard
On this month’s coaching episode, This Naked Mind Head Coach Scott Pinyard welcomes TNM coach, Lorna Wilson. Lorna specializes in people using alcohol over 60 who want to change their habits. Sometimes this switch can be difficult and Lorna explains why by sharing her own story: Nearing retirement doesn’t mean all stress from life magically disappears and Lorna found her relief in a bottle of wine. But just like many of her clients, she began to take a look at her life and health and reflect on what had happened. Lorna’s freedom was found in her curiosity which led her to pick up a copy of This Naked Mind. Find out why ‘alcohol=ethanol’ hit home so deeply for her and where curiosity led her from there. Lorna and Scott also answer these inquisitive questions: How have you seen people handle a widening gap in their marriage due to one spouse continuing to use alcohol when the other is AF? How do you let go of the guilt and shame of things you’ve said and done while intoxicated? Have you seen people at the age of 73 change their drinking habits? Is it worth it? Join them in the conversation, and be sure to listen until the end to find out Lorna’s answer to Scott’s curveball question. Are you ready for a deep dive into truly lasting change? If so, you might consider my Intensive Program. It’s a 9-week, self-led program that you can do in the complete comfort of your own home. It will truly transform your relationship with alcohol. Listen as Jeanne shares her story with Annie Grace and they talk about how wine made from grapes becomes the same thing we put in our cars’ gas tanks, how rules can both serve us and be a barrier to progress, and how to reconcile the religious, cultural, and historical roles of alcohol with the choice to abstain from drinking. EP 395: Naked Life Story - Ruthie
A college drinker whose alcohol consumption really ramped up in law school after she was diagnosed with anxiety and put on medication, Ruthie never imagined alcohol was contributing to her stress. Booze was supposed to quiet her mind, she thought. There were hangovers so bad she missed study groups. Weddings and other big events became excuses to over drink. After the traumatic births of her children and immersion in Mommy Wine Culture, Ruthie realized she wasn’t being the best mother she could be. She tried “every trick in the book” to drink less, but the guilt, anger, sadness, fear, shame, and shoulds kept her stuck in what felt like an unbreakable cycle. What finally worked for Ruthie? Listen as she shares her story with This Naked Mind head Coach Scott Pinyard. I'm so excited you guys, because we are just about to start another live alcohol experiment. If you do not know about the alcohol experiment, you need to literally drop everything right now and go to livealcoholexperiment.com. EP 394: Coaching Questions with Scott Pinyard
On this month’s coaching episode, This Naked Mind Head Coach Scott Pinyard welcomes This Naked Mind Senior Coach Rebecca Snider. Rebecca shares some of her story and the struggles that led her to work with people who focus on wellness but feel stuck with alcohol as well as mothers raising families. Then, she and Scott answer these three great questions: Four of my colleagues gave up alcohol for 30 days. It was easy for them. When I tried it, I only made it a few days and now I’m drinking more. What do I do? I feel like when I first set a goal, I do well. But then I lose momentum. What am I doing wrong? Why are some triggers stronger than others and how can I get past them? And, finally, Scott tosses his signature curveball question to Rebecca. Hi, it's Annie Grace. I wanted to interrupt this podcast, I guess the end of this podcast, to say that if you are totally serious about actually truly and forevermore transforming your relationship with alcohol, really leaving it behind in the rear view mirror for once and forever, and changing your psychology about it, we have a program called The PATH that is created specifically for you. Now it's not for you if you are still dabbling or still trying to figure out where you want to be or maybe even still want to moderate. All those things are fine, but if you are beyond that and you're like, "No, I just want to be done with this. I'm ready to invest some time and I'm ready to just make this happen." I want you to check out nakedmindpath.com, and join us in The PATH where you receive coach-guided and community support so that you can truly make this lasting change you want in your life. And as always, rate, review, and subscribe to this podcast as it truly helps the message reach somebody who might need to hear it today. Episode Links: Learn More About Rebecca

EP 393: Naked Life Story - Allie
At first, Allie hated the taste of alcohol. In college, she would sneak club sodas at the bar, always hoping her friends wouldn’t catch her. And yet, she ultimately “fell victim” to the college lifestyle of tailgating and partying and sorority socials and by default acquired a taste for alcohol. After college, Allie moved to New York City to work for a tech start-up where she and her colleagues rang a gong and chugged a beer every time they made a sale. Between that and the Thursday happy hours and Friday fancy dinners and clubbing, it wasn’t long before she started experiencing health issues - from her gut to anxiety and depression - and worked with medical specialists, looking for every possible cause aside from alcohol. For years, Allie remained dedicated to yoga, meditation, training for long runs, and eating clean, just to be able to continue drinking. But, all that changed when she read This Naked Mind. EP 391: Naked Life Story - Darren
As a kid, Darren saw alcohol normalized by his father and frowned upon by his mother. By 13 years old, he was going to the pubs. In his later teens, he drank to get drunk. When a sales career where he could drink pints at lunch crossed his path, Darren leapt at it. Over the years, Darren’s drinking increased - he would give sales presentations to secure large contracts and not remember them the next day. After a breakdown in 2014, Darren stepped away from the job. But his drinking continued and worsened. He tried to stop for years, exploring different programs and even taking a bizarre trip to another country to meet his AA sponsor and work the 12 steps. Eventually, Darren explored Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) - he shares what it is and how it helped him. OK, honesty time. Let me ask you … Did the pandemic change your relationship with alcohol? Maybe you started drinking more than usual? Maybe you started using it as a way to cope with isolation or stress. The truth is, a lot of people did. You are not alone. Are you ready to take back control of your drinking in a post pandemic world and still be able to enjoy life as things reopen? The answer is not in restriction or deprivation. EP 390: Coaching Questions with Scott Pinyard
On this month’s coaching episode, This Naked Mind Head Coach Scott Pinyard welcomes This Naked Mind Senior Coach Rob Wolman as his guest host. After a brief discussion about Rob’s specialized approach to shifting your mindset, they answer two great questions: How do people quit drinking among those who are continuing to drink? Can we talk about how many times I've tried to quit? How can I shake the feeling that trying this is just a waste of time? And, finally, Scott tosses his signature curveball question to Rob. So, if you asked me about the one thing that makes This Naked Mind so different from anything else I would have to say emotion. Is the emotion people feel when they're really ready to make a change, when they've had that mindset shift, when they've gone through all the materials and the methodology, and they get this feeling that they're never going to get to drink again, they let that go and they think, "Oh my gosh, I never have to drink again." That change in emotion. And honestly, according to all sorts of new research, it is emotion, especially positive emotion more than anything else that predicates how long a change in our behavior will stick, how long it will last. It's emotion. And so when you feel excited about a change in your life, when you're thrilled, you're making this new different change instead of feeling deprived or like you've been missing out, everything changes. And that's really what makes This Naked Mind stick for the long-term. That's what makes it so different is we focus on how you feel and truly change your emotion around drinking. And if that sounds interesting to you, I want you to check out our self guided PATH at nakedmindpath.com. Enrollment in this program is closing on June 11th. So you don't want to miss it. It's closing now. And this is the path to changing your emotion and changing your feelings so that you can really truly find freedom in your relationship with alcohol. And as always, rate, review, and subscribe to this podcast as it helps the message reach somebody who might need to hear it today. Episode Links: Learn More About Rob

EP 389: Naked Life Story - Carol
Carol dabbled in drinking in her teens - with older siblings and friends in the woods after school and on weekends. She recalls being very controlled, never getting sick. All that changed in her 20s and 30s when she moved to Italy and became interested in wine as a tour guide. Carol used her profession as an excuse to drink more than needed. Eventually, she abstained from drinking during trips. But she made up for it in the weeks in between until she got sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. Cleanses and fasts, sobriety programs and 12-step … nothing clicked for Carol until she found This Naked Mind. Tune in to hear how she navigated lockdown in Italy during the pandemic and how she has made sobriety her superpower. So, if you asked me about the one thing that makes This Naked Mind so different from anything else I would have to say emotion. Is the emotion people feel when they're really ready to make a change, when they've had that mindset shift, when they've gone through all the materials and the methodology, and they get this feeling that they're never going to get to drink again, they let that go and they think, "Oh my gosh, I never have to drink again." EP 388: Reader Question: How do I stay sober as an isolated stay-at-home mom?
A reader asks, “How can I stay sober as a stay-at-home mom with a spouse who works outside of the home? We don't have the option of childcare for several reasons. My family isn't nearby and my spouse helps as much as possible when he's home but I feel exhausted and selfish for wanting time to myself.” Annie Grace shares her thoughts about being selflessly selfish and deconstructing our beliefs about alcohol’s power to make us less miserable. So, if you asked me about the one thing that makes This Naked Mind so different from anything else I would have to say emotion. Is the emotion people feel when they're really ready to make a change, when they've had that mindset shift, when they've gone through all the materials and the methodology, and they get this feeling that they're never going to get to drink again, they let that go and they think, "Oh my gosh, I never have to drink again." EP 387: Naked Life Story - Lisa
Lisa’s 30-year drinking career began when she was around 17 years old. She was working in an office and going down to the local bar at lunchtime was part of the Australian culture, something she had to do to fit in. A people pleaser, Lisa always chose jobs that fed her need to make others happy. And, she used alcohol to cope with anything life threw at her. Despite nearly dying at one point and thinking she had learned her lesson and could moderate, Lisa continued drinking to excess. Her marriage and work suffered. Her mental and physical health suffered. In this episode, Lisa shares how she found freedom from alcohol and how joining The PATH by This Naked Mind was like coming home. So, if you asked me about the one thing that makes This Naked Mind so different from anything else I would have to say emotion. Is the emotion people feel when they're really ready to make a change, when they've had that mindset shift, when they've gone through all the materials and the methodology, and they get this feeling that they're never going to get to drink again, they let that go and they think, "Oh my gosh, I never have to drink again." EP 383: Naked Life Story - Jim
On today’s episode, Annie Grace talks with This Naked Mind Coach Jim. Introduced to beer when he was about 10 years old, Jim remembers getting to have a few sips on holidays and special occasions. He used fake IDs in the late 60s and early 70s when driver's licenses were paper and changing your birth date was simple. Always a beer drinker, Jim started making wine and using it to quiet anxiety and help him sleep following his divorce. A pharmacist for more than 40 years, Jim recalls patients handing him back their medication when he told them they couldn’t drink alcohol while taking it. Now “faster and funnier” without alcohol, today Jim helps others find freedom from alcohol or, as he puts it, the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Hi. Super exciting news. So The Alcohol Experiment book is being released. Actually it got released just a few days ago with the expanded edition. What does expanded edition mean? It means that every single day throughout the book there are deep reflective journal entries that have been added with space to write which is so cool and so exciting. So you really make it your own. And, the reason I did this is because I truly believe that the deepest wisdom you will access throughout the 30 days of The Alcohol Experiment comes from within you. You know more about what’s best for you than anybody else in the entire world. And I know sometimes that can be hard to believe but when you really access your own wisdom it is so profound. So you can pick up your own copy at alcoholexperimentbook.com and check it out. It’s really powerful. EP 382: Coaching Questions with Scott Pinyard
On this month’s coaching episode, This Naked Mind Head Coach Scott Pinyard welcomes This Naked Mind Senior Coach Pam McRae as his guest host. After a brief discussion about Pam’s work specializing in helping people through grief and loss while staying alcohol free, they answer three great questions: If I am not an alcoholic, what am I? How can I explain my situation to people? How do you manage a partner who doesn't want to cut back on their alcohol consumption? With COVID I feel like I’ve lost my life; I am alcohol free but really starting to struggle - do you have any tips for how to deal with where I am right now? And, finally, Scott tosses his signature curveball question to Pam. Let me ask you a question. What is better than change? Lasting change, of course. If you've had trouble making change stick, either with alcohol or in any other area of your life, you are in for a treat. I created the 100 Days of Lasting Change to ensure that we don't just change for a moment, but we truly transform for a lifetime. This program is so close to my heart. EP 381: Naked Life Story - Lauren
As a child in a family where alcoholism ran rampant, Lauren used to pour bottles of wine down the drain and break packs of cigarettes. There was emotional neglect in her home and by fourth grade she was experiencing anxiety and panic attacks. Lauren felt the pain, loneliness, and pressure to be perfect, all while keeping her family’s secret. Alcohol had been a turn off for Lauren, but in college she slowly fell into binge drinking. Despite her high GPA and marathon training, Lauren’s drinking was the talk of the next day and her behavior was the butt of drinking jokes. After college, her drinking escalated - Lauren romanticized drinking and being lost and not having it all together as an escape from the perfection she felt expected to portray. The double life felt gross, but she couldn’t get her drinking under control. Lauren had 35 day ones. Listen to hear what finally changed, how she stopped drinking, and what life looks like now. EP 379: Naked Life Story - Caitlin
Caitlin was a Type A kid who got good grades, played sports, fit the mold, and checked all the boxes. She had her first drink on her 21st birthday with her parents and hated the taste of champagne. Fast forward to veterinary school which required a big move away from her partner and family, just three days after Caitlin’s mom passed away. Alcohol became a source of comfort and escape - from stress, reality, herself. Caitin’s drinking ramped up even more during her internship - where it’s “go, go, go, go until you burn out and break down.” Caitlin was using alcohol as a salve for everything. Then, she discovered This Naked Mind - she did a Live Alcohol Experiment and then joined The PATH. Today, she describes herself as a former box checker who sets her intentions each morning on how she wants to feel that day. Listen as she shares her story with This Naked Mind Head Coach Scott Pinyard. I'm so excited you guys, because we are just about to start another LIVE Alcohol Experiment. EP 377: Naked Life Story - Brandi
Growing up, Brandi received mixed messages about alcohol. On one hand, she was told how evil it is and to stay away from it. On the other, she saw alcohol present at every holiday, celebration, and nice dinner. The battle of messages played out for years and Brandi avoided alcohol until she turned 21. Her birthday drinks awoke a sleeping dragon - Brandi learned quickly that alcohol did for her what food had done for many years, but in a socially acceptable and better way. Over the years, she found herself doing Whole 30 over and over again, more to remove alcohol than eat healthier. After her father died, she used alcohol to manage her grief until she realized it wasn’t helping. Realizing how much she was giving to alcohol, Brandi signed up for one of the very first This Naked Mind Live Alcohol Experiments. She hasn’t looked back since and is now a certified This Naked Mind senior coach. I'm so excited you guys, because we are just about to start another LIVE Alcohol Experiment. If you do not know about the alcohol experiment, you need to literally drop everything right now and go to livealcoholexperiment.com. EP 375: Naked Life Story - Arlan Hamilton
As a kid around drinking adults, Arlan was always worried about who would be able to help if there was an emergency. In her twenties, she spent a lot of time in the lesbian party scenes in San Diego and Los Angeles, never drinking unless someone else was buying. No matter how much she drank, Arlan was always the responsible one at the end of the night, putting people in cabs and not letting friends go home with the wrong person. But, drinking stopped being fun and Arlan started referring to alcohol as her “medicine.” She chose it over food when there wasn’t enough money for both. Getting ready to check into rehab, she looked for a book that might “logic her into” a life without alcohol and found This Naked Mind, which she credits with saving her life. Today, Arlan manages the venture capital fund she built from the ground up. Through the fund, she is dedicated to minimizing funding disparities in tech by investing in high-potential founders who are people of color, women, and/or LGBT. Hey, it’s Annie Grace. Today, a reader writes in to say they have been alcohol free for six months and are feeling tempted to have a drink - although they cannot deny how amazing they feel as a result of sleeping better and a clear mind and love how they look and feel, they don’t want to give up alcohol forever. Is moderation possible? What are the rules? Annie Grace shares her thoughts. Hi, it's Annie Grace. I wanted to interrupt this podcast, I guess the end of this podcast, to say that if you are totally serious about actually truly and forevermore transforming your relationship with alcohol, really leaving it behind in the rearview mirror for once and forever, and changing your psychology about it, we have a program called The PATH that is created specifically for you.
