Once Again, Trump Disrespects Those In Uniform (Hour 2)

This afternoon, Todd asks us a very controversial question for What’s Worse: Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers? Both of Green Bay’s most recent MVP quarterbacks have less-than-stellar reputations. We take your calls and texts on which is worse.  At the bottom of the hour, Todd shifts gears to cover the serious news from the weekend. President Trump spoke at the commencement ceremony for West Point, one of America’s finest military academies. Between his attire, behavior, and rhetoric, Todd believes that Trump has made a mockery of those who put on the uniform. In stark contrast to our president, Scott Pelley of CBS and 60 Minutes spoke at a different commencement ceremony. He spoke openly and honestly, protesting the decline of free speech in America. At the beginning of our second hour, we are thrilled to be joined by Brian Ziegler, Chairperson of the Board of Directors at Badger Honor Flight! The brat fry runs all weekend, but the auction is Sunday afternoon. LIVE From Lake Wissota: On Building Community (Hour 1)

Today, Todd joins us live from the lovely Kreitlow compound on Lake Wissota! Pat Kreitlow of Mornings With Pat Kreitlow and Civic Media News Northwestern WI Bureau Chief James Kelly join Todd on the back porch to talk about how national politics are affecting rural Wisconsin. They also talk about how important it is to genuinely connect with people, both for our own health and to better communicate the state of the world with them.  At the bottom of the hour, former NFL fullback and three time Badger B1G champion Bradie Ewing continues the theme of community building. At the beginning of our second hour, we welcome Alex Madorsky, Associate Director of Government Relations from The Nature Conservancy. With a presence in 79 countries, The Nature Conservancy is one of the world’s largest organizations dedicated to conservation. Alex joins us to talk about how we can all chip in to maintain Wisconsin’s natural resources. Alex provides more detail on what the Stewardship Fund does and what its future may look like under current legislation.  Since he’s broadcasting on the shore of Black River, Todd asks us What’s Worse: heights or water? The House Of Representatives Votes To Gut Healthcare (Hour 1)

Today, Todd joins us live from beautiful Black River Falls. After convening around 1 am last night, the House of Representatives passed their reconciliation bill by one vote early this morning. If it passes in the senate and is implemented, this bill may have dire consequences for the people of Wisconsin, particularly when it comes to healthcare.  At the bottom of the hour, we are joined by James Kelly, Northwestern Wisconsin Bureau Chief for Civic Media News. He reminds us of the current healthcare struggles in rural Wisconsin and how they will be exacerbated by this reconciliation bill. The HSHS hospital system closed due to insufficient Medicaid reimbursement, and this bill looks to cut Medicaid further.  After the discussion on the “big, beautiful bill,” James updates us on other news from his area of the state, including yet another abandoned boat. Making Fresh Salsa with Gordy Kopke (Hour 2)

As we head into Memorial Day weekend, there are plenty of opportunities for refreshing beverages, but they aren’t always amazing. Todd asks us What’s Worse: flat soda or warm beer?  At the bottom of the hour, Gordy Kopke of Kopke’s Greenhouse (a sponsor of Civic Media) returns to answer your plant-related questions. One of Todd’s favorite treats is homemade salsa with fresh ingredients, all of which are available from Kopke’s. Today, Todd broadcasts live from Kopke’s Greenhouse just outside of Oregon, Wisconsin! The founder and owner, Gordy Kopke, has made a name for himself by selling the highest quality products and providing excellent customer service. His business gets a substantial amount of their electricity from four solar panel arrays, and they are dedicated to giving back to the community in meaningful ways. Every year, they run a planter auction to support our veterans through Badger Honor Flight.  We kick off the show with our usual Wednesday guests, Pat Kreitlow of Mornings with Pat Kreitlow and Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project. After a brief recap of the day’s political news, they share their remembrances for Memorial Day.  At the bottom of the hour, Todd is joined by Gordy Kopke himself to share some of the history of Kopke’s Greenhouse and this weekend’s fundraiser. If you can’t make it to the event and still want to support Badger Honor Flight this Sunday, you can call 608-835-7569 to either bid over the phone or make a direct credit card donation. BREAKING NEWS: Actor George Wendt Dead At 76 (Hour 2)

Breaking news: George Wendt, famous for playing Norm on Cheers, passed away at the age of 76. Todd takes a moment to commemorate the achievements of this great actor.  This afternoon, Todd asks us What’s Worse: spam or junk mail? We take your calls on whether it’s more annoying to have garbage in your email inbox or your real mailbox.  At the bottom of the hour, Todd addresses the latest misdirections from the Trump administration. Apparently, the Qatari government were not the ones to reach out and offer their $400,000,000 plane as a gift. The Trump administration reached out to Qatar to request the plane. Mental Health Month with Kira Sabin: Coping Methods (Hour 1)

Over the weekend, former President Joe Biden announced that he has been diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Biden family, and we hope that treatment is effective. After sending out a supportive Tweet, current President Trump displayed a lack of empathy when responding to interview questions about the cancer diagnosis, focusing instead on the results of his own physical exams.  In other saddening news, two women died yesterday in a shooting at the UW-Platteville dorms.  After bringing up this tragedy, we are joined by positive psychology coach Kira Sabin for the second in a three-part series for Mental Health Awareness Month. Today, she talks about strategies for coping with the hand life deals us.  Check out Kira’s work at thrivewithkira.com! Brian Schimming Agrees With Van Orden… Mostly (Hour 1)

Over the weekend in Rothschild, WI, the Republican Party of Wisconsin held their annual convention. When asked why conservative candidates have been losing in our state’s supreme court races, Congressman Derrick Van Orden responded that “Republicans don’t vote in Spring elections.” He went as far as to say that we should get rid of Spring elections in their entirety, folding everything into the Fall ballot. RPW Chairman Brian Schimming was asked if he agrees with Van Orden, and his response was hilarious.  At the bottom of the hour, State Senator Kelda Roys joins us once again in-studio to cover the latest developments from the Joint Finance Committee’s budget negotiations. The bottom line is that, as we’ve come to expect, extreme partisanship is largely blocking all progress in formulating a budget. From childcare to education and beyond, Sen. Roys walks us through the investments she believes will help drive Wisconsin forward. Kristi Noem Is Even More Despicable Than We Thought (Hour 2)

This afternoon, Todd asks the forgetful among us What’s Worse: losing your phone or losing your keys?  At the bottom of the hour, we bring you more information on dangerous weather around the state before sharing some breaking news. The US Supreme Court has temporarily blocked President Trump from deporting Venezuelan immigrants without due process in a 7-2 decision. Unsurprisingly, Thomas and Alito are the dissenters.  Remember Kristi Noem, the woman who shot a puppy instead of training it? Well, as the Department of Homeland Security Secretary, she’s working with the producers of Duck Dynasty to create a show that pits potential immigrants against each other in a contest to fast track their US citizenship application. This is a sick and disgusting dehumanization of people who are already suffering. It’s Time For The State To Step Up On Childcare (Hour 1)

Todd begins today’s show with a recap of yesterday’s disastrous weather across the state. As the incredible Mr. Rogers always said, “in times of trouble, look for the helpers.” Our state’s first responders always do an incredible job meeting the moment to protect and repair our communities.  At the bottom of the hour, we are joined by Brynne and Mike Schieffer of Faith Lutheran Child Care Center in Cameron, Wisconsin. Aside from some hiccups during the COVID-19 pandemic, they’ve been running their nonprofit childcare business successfully since 2011. However, our state’s refusal to fund childcare is making it harder and harder for these businesses to stay open. Wisconsin is one of only six states that do not financially support childcare in any capacity. Beware Unsolicited Pizza Deliveries (Hour 2)

We begin our second hour with another weather update. Storm and tornado watches have been upgraded to warnings in some areas of the state. Stay tuned to the weather, and stay safe, folks!  Going back to the news, President Trump is spending his first state trip abroad in the Middle East, heaping praise upon dictators of countries who have committed atrocities against innocent civilians, journalists, and Americans. These actions continue to weaken America’s position in the world, prompting our allies to form new alliances without us. Even other Republicans, including Sen. John Kennedy, are speaking out against Trump’s friendliness with countries like Qatar.  What’s wrong with people? According to CBS, many federal judges around the country are suffering from “pizza doxxing” attacks. Individuals are sending pizzas with coded violent messages to the personal homes of these judges. While the name sounds comical, pizza doxxing is not funny at all.  At the bottom of the hour, Todd asks us What’s Worse: M&M’s or Reese’s Pieces? Both colorful candies are beloved by many, but which one just doesn’t quite cut it for you? The David Hogg Controversy Is A Bad Look For Dems (Hour 1)

Todd kicks off today’s show with a discussion on weather. After a brief update on some storms brewing across the state, we dive into the chaos ensuing in NOAA after DOGE made massive cuts to the national weather service.  In other Wisconsin news, according to WISN 12, the Trump administration is ending temporary protections for Afghan refugees, including approximately 120 individuals in Wisconsin. Many of these people served as interpreters for American troops stationed in Afghanistan, saving countless lives in exchange for a safe place to live in America. President Trump is now going back on that promise.  At the bottom of the hour, Todd shares some thoughts from columnist Michael Harriot to explain the controversy surrounding David Hogg and the allegedly bungled DNC vice chair election. Allegedly, the election did not follow the DNC’s own bylaws, giving Hogg an unfair advantage. As an award-winning Black journalist and an expert on diversity, Harriot believes that errors like this are the reason many white Americans believe that DEI programs are out to get them. Todd agrees, and finds that this long delay before addressing the issue indicates either incompetence or willful ignorance, neither of which is a good look for Democrats. Trump Is Bringing In A Trojan Horse (Hour 1)

This Wednesday, Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project joins us to talk about the latest national news, as well as ways to find hope in today’s crazy world.  Not only is President Trump’s acceptance of a $400 million Qatari jet illegal and unconstitutional, it is incredibly dangerous. This plane is not built to the security and safety standards required of Air Force One, and it is likely full of listening devices.  At the end of the hour, Trygve gives us some reminders on how to have productive discussions when we have political disagreements. What’s Wrong With People? (Hour 2)

This afternoon, Todd continues the theme of mental health awareness by asking us What’s Worse: guilt or shame? In other words, is it worse to have wronged another or to feel bad about yourself?  After What’s Worse, Todd covers a story about a TikTok trend leading kids to set their Chromebooks on fire. Unfortunately, yes, this is real.  At the national level, DNC Vice Chair David Hogg finds himself in hot water. Some other Democrats are calling for a redo of the election that awarded Hogg his chairmanship. Where is all of this infighting coming from, and how is it productive? What CAN We Control? With Kira Sabin (Hour 1)

Today, we are excited to welcome our friend and ongoing contributor Kira Sabin back to the show! As a positive psychology coach, she kicks off a three-part series for Mental Health Awareness Month. The world is a crazy place right now, and humans aren’t wired to handle constant catastrophe. Today, Kira focuses on the concept of control. Whether it’s the weather, other people in our lives, or the state of the entire world, there are a lot of things that we simply cannot control. Accepting this fact and diverting energy to the things within our control is a much healthier use of our time.  Listen in to hear more about the four things that only WE can control in our own lives: physical health, emotional health, passion, and self-worth. What’s New With Wisconsin Watch? With Jack Kelly (Hour 2)

This last weekend, a tragic fire in an outdated Milwaukee apartment building killed five people and injured or displaced several others.  As the weather warms up, many people will be exercising more to try and lose weight. Todd asks us What’s Worse: pointing out weight loss or not pointing out weight loss? Some people are sensitive about these issues, but others want to show it off.  At the bottom of the hour, Jack Kelly of Wisconsin Watch returns to the show to share some of the biggest news from their weekly newsletter, Forward. As Sen. Kelda Roys spoke about earlier, the Joint Finance Committee’s budget negotiations take top billing in state news. Jack walks us through the basics of the budget process and many of the key debates, including the future of childcare funding. For A Smart Guy, Sen. Howard Marklein Is Acting Dumb (Hour 1)

On the day after Mothers’ Day, Todd reminds us that it’s important to spend some time face-to-face with the people we care about.  As ABC broke over the weekend, Qatar is giving the Trump administration a brand-new “palace in the sky” airplane to serve as Air Force One. After Trump’s term as President ends, the aircraft would be set aside for his personal use. This gift appears to clearly violate the constitutional rules on accepting what could be considered bribes. In addition to corruption, using a foreign-built plane for the President opens our nation up to incredible security risks.  At the bottom of the hour, State Senator Kelda Roys joins us in-studio to talk about our state budget and why it matters to all Wisconsinites. GOP representatives in our state, such as State Senator Howard Marklein, appear to be refusing to advocate for their constituents as they face massive cuts to Medicaid and Medicare. When asked about budget cuts like these, Sen. Marklein either feigns ignorance or claims he has no power to help people despite his position as Co-Chair of the Joint Finance Committee. From Friday's show: Sick Flips And Raccoons Smoking Meth (Hour 2) To kick off our second hour, we welcome Jake Aminia and Honor Hicks, two members of Badger Parkour, a great club at UW Madison! Check them out on Instagram @BadgerParkour. From Thursday's show: Banding Together For Conservation In Green Bay (Hour 1) At the bottom of the hour, we welcome State Representative Amaad Rivera-Wagner to the program! He proudly represents Green Bay, having previously served as Mayor Eric Genrich’s Chief of Staff. After briefly catching up on some of the great things going on in Green Bay since the NFL draft, Rep. Rivera-Wagner shifts to a more serious topic. DOGE cuts to the federal government have slashed AmeriCorps, the domestic version of the Peace Corps. Green Bay is home to Wisconsin’s first municipal branch of AmeriCorps, the Green Bay Conservation Corps. This organization was also defunded, and Rep. Rivera-Wagner is fighting to raise awareness and keep this program open. His efforts have been supported by people all across the political spectrum, keeping the GBCC open at least through August. Banding Together For Conservation In Green Bay (Hour 1)

White smoke has been seen at the Vatican, and we have a new Pope! Illinois native Cardinal Robert Prevost shall now be known as Pope Leo XIV. All signs point to a continuation of the late Pope Francis’s more progressive views.  Here in Wisconsin, we have some breaking news as well. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Democratic Elias Law Group is filing with the Wisconsin Supreme Court to reconsider the constitutionality of our state’s congressional districts. Nick Ramos, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, joins Todd in-studio to provide his take on this legal challenge.  At the bottom of the hour, we welcome State Representative Amaad Rivera-Wagner to the program! Trump’s Crypto Grift Is Indeed A Grift (Hour 2)

Trygve Olson sticks around into our second hour as Todd asks us What’s Worse: snakes or skunks? We take your calls and texts!  At the bottom of the hour, Todd moves on to a topic he loves dearly: cryptocurrency. (That was sarcasm.) Remember Donald Trump’s “meme coin” that debuted this January? Well, according to NBC, a select 58 individuals have made tens of millions of dollars while 764,000 people have lost money. Adams County Attempts To Overturn An Election (Hour 1)

It took a few tries, but we have finally reunited Pat Kreitlow of the conveniently-named morning drive time radio program Mornings with Pat Kreitlow and Trygve Olson of The Lincoln Project at our new time of 2-4 pm.  Right off the bat, Pat shares some news from the Capitol building in Madison. A hearing had to be adjourned due to disruptive behavior from Democrats. Pat, Todd, and Trygve agree that some decorum should be maintained, but some of our texters disagree.  In other Wisconsin news, according to WPR, the Adams County Board is attempting to overturn a legitimate election for their treasurer. Investing In Our Kids Is Common Sense (Hour 2)

Our producer Aaron is back today, which lines up perfectly with the latest edition of What’s Worse: sweating or shivering? We also call Pat Kreitlow live on the air to ask about a scheduling issue, and hilarity ensues.  At the bottom of the hour, Matt Raboin of Brix Cider and Corrine Hendrickson of Corrine’s Little Explorers join us to talk about the dire state of childcare in Wisconsin. Despite plentiful research demonstrating the incredible economic return when the government invests in childcare, states like ours are refusing to contribute any money. Tonight, Main Street Alliance is holding a Community Conversation about Child Care at Brix Cider in Mt. Horeb at 6 pm. Crypto Scams, Lucky Pants, and Real ID (Hour 1)

Today, Todd kicks off the show by sharing some great local reporting from WEAU in Eau Claire on cryptocurrency scams. Some companies have set up kiosks to purchase cryptocurrency around the state for a huge 20-30% fee. Notably, these same currencies can be purchased without fees on the internet. Scammers have commandeered these kiosks to commit identity theft, and the Wood County Sheriff’s Department believes that the companies who run them are complicit. The department recommends that everybody stay away from these dangerous crypto kiosks.  After a brief tangent on Todd’s newest lucky pants, he dives into a topic that’s about to become a lot more relevant for Americans: Real ID. Real ID is a federal identification program that is often denoted with a star on state IDs such as driver licenses. According to Axios, a Real ID-compliant identification will be required to fly domestically or enter many types of federal buildings starting tomorrow on May 7th. Some forms of ID, such as passports, are also sufficient. Todd talks us through the process of acquiring a Real ID if you don’t have one yet. Visit dlguides.wi.gov or your local DMV to learn more. Hollywood Tariffs and Trump Coin Craziness: Wisconsin’s Silver Screen Dreams (Hour 2)

Todd Allbaugh dives into Trump's wild idea of slapping a 100% tariff on foreign films, sparking a debate on domestic film production. Wisconsin's own cinematic history is highlighted, with a push from Governor Evers to revive the state's film office, a move originally championed by Tommy Thompson but later killed by Republicans. From the Blues Brothers' Milwaukee scenes to Johnny Depp's Madison shoot, Wisconsin's Hollywood connections shine. Wisconsin Politics and Legal Drama Unfold

Cinco de Mayo kicks off with Todd Allbaugh and Sam Davisson at the helm while Zommers is down with illness. The episode dives into Wisconsin's brewing political scene as Washington County's Josh Schoeman enters the 2026 governor's race. With Evers' future undecided, the GOP primary tensions rise. Meanwhile, Milwaukee Judge Dugan's arrest echoes a past Massachusetts case, spotlighting potential political motivations behind federal charges. Todd Allbaugh dives into the challenges of balancing personal space versus being smothered, sparking a spirited debate among listeners. The episode takes a serious turn with discussions about the Trump administration's controversial policies: federal employees being tracked, Governor Evers' legal battle with ICE, and the shocking attempt to cut funding for PBS and NPR. Todd's commentary on Sesame Street underscores the importance of public broadcasting in education, while callers express their concerns about the GOP's overreach. Evers vs. Trump: Showdown in Wisconsin

Governor Tony Evers stands firm against the Trump administration's Tom Holman, who criticized Evers' guidance to state employees on handling ICE agents. Evers, labeled as 'courageous' by many, rebuffs Holman, asserting he follows the law. Meanwhile, Wisconsin Republican Rep. Callahan calls for Evers' arrest, echoing Trump's aggressive tactics. Todd, along with guest Trygve Olson of the Lincoln Project, dissect the implications on democracy, highlighting a global autocratic vs. democratic battle. Amidst this chaos, the episode questions if America is veering towards autocracy, urging listeners to defend democratic values. Taking Care Of Wisconsin’s Birds with Lisa Gaumnitz (Hour 1)

We begin today’s show with some breaking news from Washington, D.C. that’s very pertinent to Wisconsinites. The House Judiciary Committee met yesterday to sort out some budget concerns. One amendment on the table would have mandated adherence to the Constitution and forbid ICE from deporting US citizens. Per their own operational policies, it is already illegal for ICE to arrest or detain US citizens, but this does not appear to have stopped them in recent weeks. The amendment failed by one vote. Two of Wisconsin’s Republican congressmen voted against it, and one didn’t even bother to show up and vote.  At the bottom of the hour, we pick up the torch from Matenaer On Air to talk about Fat Bird Week. We are joined by Lisa Gaumnitz, the SOS Save Our Songbirds Coordinator! You may have heard of Fat Bear Week, but they aren’t the only animals who bulk up for the Winter. You can head to wisconservation.org/fat-bird-week/ to vote for your favorite chubby birds over the next week!  In addition to the fun competition, Fat Bird Week is all about educating Wisconsinites on how to contribute to bird conservation in their own backyards. Lisa provides some easy tips to take good care of the birds in your neighborhood.  Are you interested in birding? You can observe and predict migration patterns at birdcast.info. You can also download the Merlin Bird ID app to identify birds with a quick picture or song recording. One Hundred Days Of Trump’s Second Term (Hour 1)

Now that Trump has had the wheel of the country for 100 days, polling from Fox News shows that Americans aren’t too happy with the results. From the economy to foreign policy, his numbers are underwater. Stephen Miller, Trump’s Deputy Chief of Staff, went on Fox News to demand that they fire their pollsters, stating that they are “always wrong” about President Trump. This is simply false. Despite the extreme bias of the Fox News entertainment programs, their polling division has proven to be extraordinarily accurate.  We take some calls this hour on how Trump’s first 100 days have affected Wisconsinites in their day-to-day lives. Congress’s New Budget Will Gut Medicaid (Hour 2)

This afternoon, Todd asks us What’s Worse: no clouds or a cloudy day? From sunburn to humidity to fishing conditions, there are a lot of reasons people might be miserable outside.  After What’s Worse, Todd delves into what we can expect when Congress goes back into session on Monday. Some of the biggest concerns for Americans are proposed cuts to Social Security and Medicaid, and this is when the rubber hits the road. The tax cuts that MAGA Republicans want to implement can only be funded by cutting these vital programs, but many have pledged to their constituents that they will not do so. On CBS and Maintaining Journalistic Integrity (Hour 1)

After a brief update on some expected severe weather around the state this evening, we are joined by Civic Media Sports Reporter Mike Clemens! Mike was on the scene in Green Bay for the NFL draft last weekend, so he walks us through the biggest news of the event. In other sports news, the Milwaukee Bucks have confirmed that Damian Lillard is out with another injury after tearing his left Achilles tendon. This injury will likely prevent him from playing through most or all of next season.  As we mentioned on the show previously, Bill Owens has resigned after 24 years as Executive Producer of 60 Minutes on CBS. At the end of yesterday’s show, Scott Pelley shared some refreshingly blunt and candid comments about how this situation occurred. After pressure from CBS’s parent company Paramount, Owens felt he had lost journalistic independence and resigned to maintain integrity. The reason for Paramount’s apparent interference is likely a potential merger of major media companies that the Trump administration would have to approve. Previously, CBS drew criticism from the president as he falsely claimed that 60 Minutes edited an interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris in a misleading manner. Ultimately, President Trump’s attacks on news companies are eerily similar to actions taken by dictators like Nayib Bukele in other countries. Peter Rapine Finds Canadian Romance In Mexico (Hour 2)

In today’s second hour, we switch to lighter topics. First, we welcome Brandon Ewing, former Badger and NFL fullback Bradie’s older brother and a fantastic coach in his own right, to talk about the NFL draft! A huge part of the excitement of the events is in the families, friends, and communities surrounding newly drafted players. Brandon shares what it was like when his brother was picked.  Wisconsin is one of the last states to authorize name, image, and likeness (NIL) sponsorship deals for high school sports. As a high school coach, Brandon shares his thoughts on where the WIAA is headed.  At the bottom of the hour, eBaum’s World Managing Editor Peter Rapine returns for another week in review! As always, these stories are crazy things that real people actually did. This week, he also brings us a few exclusives that haven’t yet been posted on the site! The Trump Administration Is Arresting Judges Now (Hour 1)

Earlier today, the FBI arrested Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan for allegedly obstructing justice by aiding an undocumented person in an escape from ICE capture. Apparently, ICE agents were poised outside of Judge Dugan’s courtroom to detain a defendant during a pre-trial conference. Judge Dugan then directed the defendant and his legal team to exit through a private door.  Here to dissect the situation is our friend and legal expert Matt Flynn. From the information publicly available, it is Matt’s opinion that Judge Dugan has not done anything illegal. Judges in Wisconsin are allowed to direct people in their courtrooms to use any exits they wish. If anything, the ICE agents disrupted the sanctity of her courtroom, as they did not have a judicial warrant.  At the bottom of the hour, Todd rounds up the latest news on the Trump administration’s tariff purgatory. After a meeting with several retail executives, it appears that Trump has been convinced to soften the tariffs he plans to impose on Chinese goods. While this is almost certainly a good move, it’s too little too late, as Trump’s wanton application of tariffs have already caused many shipments to be canceled or routed elsewhere.
